So I’ve been listening to Will Wood lately and started to associate his song from the Self-ish album to tma. So here are some loosely connected things that i found (spoiler warning btw)

Self fells like Jon at the end of s2 all defeated and stuff giving a sad song as he sits on the floor in Georgis apartment. Here are some lyrics that express that: “We'll write history books from memories“ - trying to figure out what the hell is happening from the statements that people give “Well, they always ask you not to leave“ - Elias forcing very nicely asking his employees not to leave “No, I won't come back and be the same“ - Jon and everyone being change about the things they experienced

2012 is about Jon in s3 being scared about becoming an avatar for the eye, as in scared that he’ll lose himself. “I was an existential criminal, so innocently cynical Ignorant as fuck but a proud individual Originally meant to live a God-damned miracle Mighta’ve been metaphysical, but I think it was medical” - basically s1 Jon “Never finding a theory” - Jon not understanding how the statements fit together in a coherent way “Did you lose yourself?” - Jon is afraid that he is in fact losing himself

I dont really have anything on Cotard's solution so we’ll move on

Mr. Capgras Encounters a Secondhand Vanity is the theme song of the not!them. I could go to every lyric and say how they related but that would mean that id have to copy paste the whole songs. Still, here are some examples: “Levitating off the ground“ - the first ep, the guy floating a few cm of the ground “Is another man wearing your face!“ - do i really need to say anything at this “Somebody to replace yourself“ - the not!them association with the stranger “Ready in your head and fed upon your memoirs” - again the not!them fit perfectly here

The Song With Five Name is my favorite. I imagine every entity coming together and making fun of Jon “You can break a shovel when you break new ground You dig dirt up when you dig deep down” -this lyric is about Jon in s2 and 3 breaking every connection he has with other people while trying to uncover the truth “Don't you forget That all you project Is just to protect you from The void within the form“ - again this is about Jon trying to protect himself from the truth with skepticism in s1 “And we'll have nothing left for us to lie to No matter what we seek you'll never find truth” -t he entities telling Jon that he’s to dumb for trying to find the truth

Hand Me My Shovel, I'm Going In! this is kinda like self in the sense that it’s a Jon solo but this one takes place in the peak of his paranoia in s2. The whole vibe of the song is jon frantically doing anything in his power to figure out what is happening. “It just seems unlikely that it's me who was to blame” - i know i said that this song would fit in s2 but this line specifically remind me of the s3 climax when i think?? it was Sarah Baldwin that used Gertrude and Leitner skin to make Jon think that the end of the world was his fault “This is not enough, this is not enough to prove it yet No, I need to hit the bottom Gotta get to the bottom of this” - pretty self explanatory, Jon trying to find the bottom of things “"Don't look down! You'll fall and break your back!" But that just reminds me how There's more to be found beneath the black” - the “Dont look back” is Elias telling Jon to stop doing stupid thing but he doesn’t listen “Gotta get to the bottom of this Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey Gotta get to the bottom of this If it kills me” - the last bit of the son makes me think of when Jon got an axe and broke that table. The last chorus fits perfectly with that bit, it has that frantic energy and desperation that Jon is having while he understands how massively he fucked up

Dr. Sunshine Is Dead is just a song for the dark, point blank, so i will not go into it

ish is self part 2. Theres not much to say here, it again plays into Jons fear of losing himself “And if I change my self can I still stay me? Or did I just change my mind? No it doesn't matter who I am”

Now if you read all of that first i must thank you for putting up with me for that long, you may be thinking that there is no connection and that im grasping for straws or that because the message of the album is about the fear of losing yourself it would obviously share that theme with tma since that is like a main plot point in the podcast and not everything that shares a theme is connected.

And you know what, you’re right. Im not writing this because i think that i found definite proof that the album and tma are connected, I dont even thonk that the connections I found are that good. First of all, I wrote this because it was fun and it gave me a chance to talk about two of my favorite thing and because I find it really cool how the human mind can find connections between thing that arent related at all and this is an example of that. So, thats all i got. If your a tma fan go give this album a listen because its good and who know maybe youll also think that it fids with the podcasts vibe and if you’re a will wood fan go listen to tma because i said so.

I am legitimately devastated to learn that “women are my favorite guy” isn’t yet another phrase spawned by tumblr meme culture like I assumed it was, and that it actually originates from a song created by some cishet white guy named Kyle who has built an entire tiktok career off of making fun of neurodivergent people.

k so the first time i ever read Suficiente i didn't pay super hard attention to the sequence of events after Don gets out of the shower , but upon reading it the second time around , one of the parts that stuck out the absolute most to me throughout the entire fic is when Don dabs his cologne on and then puts his crucifix back around his neck . the religion mention made my heart full bcuz , though i don't actively hold any serious religious beliefs or have a grasp on the true depth of religion, i have a very fond relationship with it and have taken to educating myself a bit more on it . anyhow, what's so special to me is that Don is Hispanic and i am as well, and when they say "his crucifix" i can only imagine that it's a rosary considering his descent ,, as i mentioned, im Hispanic as well and though i wasnt raised to be religious (in fact, for a long period of my life i quite resented it), others in my family and many who share my ethnicity have had very religious upbringings and are taught Catholicism from a very young age ... soooooo it's been a headcanon of mine since i read it that Don has a strong appreciation and love for religion; his mother began teaching him faith at a very young age and his father did as well , and once Don turned 18 he made his own rosary and began wearing it every day 🩷 also , the literal definition of rosary being "chain of roses" is VERY in character for him lol and it almost makes me wonder if - considering that he's Hispanic - the roses he's associated with aren't just to express his romantic characteristics but also serve as a possible nod at his cultural roots ? IDK JUST A FUN THOUGHT TO CONSIDERR

anyway i said this is BullDon core because ..

2. the second pic omg .. the crucifix on the chest hair LET ME BABBLE

new headcanon since i saw that pic is that after Bull gifted Don the Convertible, Don began saving money to buy Bull a pure gold necklace with a crucifix pendant 🩷 since Bull has a looot of money Don feared that the gift would lose its sentiment seeing that Bull could easily afford it, but Bull absolutely treasures it and never once considered its cost bcuz it holds such a connection to his partner ,, ive previously mentioned that i hc Don to also have a tattoo on his torso of a religious symbol / quote along with his rosary, so i think that Don deciding he wants to share a large & sentimental part of his life with Bull by having him don the same crucifix he does shook him to his core and honestly made Bull a lot more tender at heart ,, 🥹 though Bull doesn't share the same strong love for religion the way Don does, and Don is less religious than he used to he when he was younger, i just (loosesly) hc and find it very sweet if they were brought closer by it . My fave thing about the WxS dynamic is that emu/rui/miku are always like tsukasaaaa it’s 3pm it’s time to make you do incredibly dangerous and life threatening stunts!!! & tsukasa is just like ok 😔 into the cannon I go 😔 while nene (arguably the most normal and sane person in WxS who could easily put a stop to this) is like yeah see you later idiot. Bye. (Not looking up from whatever game she’s playing)

I had a member of a choir I used to direct named Birdie. So, in my mind, Birdie from Breaker Whiskey is a small, bright-eyed woman who has been in a wheelchair since she beat polio as a teenager. She is full of determination and kindness and doesn't take shit from anyone. But gently and politely. I know this is certainly incorrect, but since all we know of her is short statements and questions in beep form, I haven't had enough to bump that picture out of my head. It's interesting how different this is from a character whose actual voice the audience hears, even if we have very little info.

So, even though Whiskey doesn't trust her, and the audience probably isn't supposed to trust her completely, either, I can't help it. I sang "I'll Fly Away" at her graveside ceremony. I trust her entirely and Whiskey keeps hurting my feelings when she doesn't.

All to say, I am all caught up and still adore this podcast although I am highly annoyed by the slandering of my friend Birdie's name.

I absolutely love this, thank you so much for sharing <3 It sounds like your Birdie was a wonderful presence in the world and I have no doubt that if Whiskey were communicating with her, she'd trust her entirely.

As for the Birdie Whiskey is communicating with...well, neither of their stories is done yet.

Between TF and my other fandoms like BG3 and TES, I keep finding myself making OCs that have some element of "battle hardened hero who is actually good and righteous, but so traumatized by the toll of war that even after the war ends they feel empty/wrecked and can't enjoy the fruits of victory" and I'm not sure if it's bc I gravitate to a certain type of media where such OCs fit in best, or bc I have a specific character archetype I like and gravitate towards media that contains those things.

#squiggposting #possibly a mix of both bc idk if i've gone into detail here but war stories are one of my favorite genre of stories #like for fun fictional reasons but also for real life political and moral and emotional implications #war stories are literally so fucking cool man i feel like they get a bad rap for just being propaganda tools #and obv a lot of them can be/are explicitly made to be but also like #(i feel like i'm stealing a quote from one such story) war stories are also a method for the soldiers of the war to tell their side #and usually the soldier's side of the story tells of the LESS glorious and propagandistic sides #maybe ive just had the pleasure of having really good teachers/professors but like #most of the war stories i've read are specifically ABOUT the bridge bt war propaganda and the actual experience of fighting in a war #and i think even the ones where the soldier in question supports the war (american sniper comes to mind)#it's very interesting and dare i say important to read it and understand when and why and how they came to support war #like idk i think it's one of those things where ppl shy away from war stories bc #'ew gross it's all pro war probably american imperialist propaganda written by oppressive killers trying to make us feel sorry for them'#without understanding... idk. the difference between an individual soldier's evil and the evil of an entire institution?#some sort of anti intellectualism regarding soldiers as being inherently evil ppl who aren't to be listened to or taken seriously?#it's not a matter of like. you don't need to like or sympathize with them per se. but i think part of understanding and criticizing #the institution of war is getting the ground level testimonies about it. and more of them are critical than some ppl believe #plus i mean FUCK usamerican imperialism it doesn't need to be about US wars! other countries lived thru other wars that are also important!#war stories may have their strongest association w american imperialism but that doesn't mean other war stories don't exist #idk sorry for rambling in the tags
