Side note: I cast based on if the character reminds me of the moot, or if I can see the moot playing the character! If you get cast as a bad guy, of course I don't think of you that way! The reason I casted you is the second reason, I can just see you in that role! Cool? Cool! Now grab your razors, and let's get to cutting!

Reasons for Mikey: Admittedly at first I had casted you as the Beggar Woman, because one, I just couldn't turn down your offer to be included, and two, I was struggling to think of skmeone else to cast you as but the more I thought about it the more I genuinely liked it! I think you'd do a really good job in this role! ^^

TTS Cass being insanely jealous of Gothel abandoning her for Rapunzel when Cass knows Gothel sucked (literally stole Rapunzel and kept her prisoner for almost 2 decades) and when Cass has a loving stepfather is still so fucking stupid. And it doesn’t even make sense in the context of Crossing the Line.

#crossing the line is clearly about power dynamics/rapunzel having more political and social power #born into wealth. born with special powers. cass has to work twice as hard for that recognition #that respect and admiration #and as someone lower on the rung she legally has to defer to rapunzel #the beggars and the choosers. the winners and the losers #the luckless and the blessed #she’s constantly overshadowed by rapunzel and she’s forced to obey rapunzel as her superior #she’s also sick of being overlooked by her dad - the head of the guard #and the subtext is that it’s bc she’s a woman. she’s expected to be a handmaiden. the corona guard is full of men #and that’s another layer to her fed up with the social/political order and wanting to defy it #to take power and cross the line #‘you don’t know how much I’ve been denied’ !!!#like it’s such a good song and it sucks that it ultimately makes no sense #tangled the series #sorry it showed up on my playlist and i got mad lmao

all based off of the current Broadway cast (except I took a few creative liberties wirh Lucy). wanted to try to get a grasp on how to approach these designs & it was a lot easier than i thought lol they’re all very fun to draw

1. Thank you SO much for filming the final Sweeney show!!! 2. I was just wondering if you captured when Johanna tried to / grabbed Lucy’s hand during the final ballad?

I just went check… Yes there was this moment, but I only captured a tiny glimpse of it. From my angle Tobias was blocking a bit of Johanna’s action. Let’s hope SCJ was filming from mezz lol

This is really something Maria and Ruthie added during the final week. Also Ruthie made an acting choice of stroking Aaron’s face after her throat was slit. I can even tell she murmured “Benjamin” while doing this. The Barker family just made me so emo.

I'm sure there's more but these are some of the really notable nods to other classic children's stories and Disney princesses that they put in the live action Cinderella

An old beggar woman

This scene with the fairy godmother first appearing like a haggard beggar before revealing herself as a beautiful enchantress is such a nod to the opening of the Beauty and the Beast cartoon. She's got the heavy hood like the stained glass crone-enchantress does and you somehow know what's at stake from the moment she asks for the milk. Cinderella of course shows the kindness that the young prince failed to do even though she's having the worst day ever and this lady is not just haggard but uncouth and a little bizarre. She passes the test and looks beyond the externals to the heart.

A prince in the forest

Handsome prince riding his horse through a forest and comes across a beautiful and mysterious girl... Is it cartoon Sleeping Beauty or live action Cinderella? I love that they not only gave Prince Charming/Kit a personality and a plot but that when doing so they mapped a lot of Prince Philip onto him (the best actual royal Disney prince imo) he's got a good relationship with his dad but also stands up to him on things like marrying outside of his class and having different visions for the future but you can tell Philip and Hubert care for each other and have a similar relationship to Kit and the king. Both the king and King Hubert say almost the same lines about "you can't marry a girl you just met once in the forest" they even give him some Hubert-esque facial hair and Kit gets to do a bunch of gallant horseback riding scenes just like my fav prince Philip

A Secret Garden

Now this isn't a princess nod but most children have read the Secret Garden or watched one of the many film adaptations. What I love about this being part of the story is that without explicitly stating it, anyone who's familiar with the Secret Garden, will know the backstory it's inclusion implies. It's their way of telling us Kit spent time with his mother here and it's special to him and he's sharing that with his mystery princess because he trusts her. "I've never shown this to anyone" plus the carryover of what we all associate with a "secret garden" gives us all the subtext we need to know that the garden was his mother's. Add to that Ella's hesitation to get on the swing it's almost like she knows too. It's just woven into the film where this all is so self evident without anything having to be said overtly. Absolutely masterful storytelling weaving in all these elements from the staples of childhood stories to add a texture to this adaptation where you know more than is said due to the cues they give the audience that tie in with other familiar stories

#I’ve listened to the new sweeney todd album and it’s missing that intensity #i have mixed feelings overall #I love Maria’s Johanna + the sound quality + Annaleigh’s bizarre accent #Josh is solid and sounds great if not creepy enough #bit meh on everyone else #from the clips I’ve seen Annaleigh’s acting is so slapstick and just seems a bit cringe #and it doesn’t seem as tight as the original cast it sounds messier #I realllly love Maria as Johanna she really makes the role shine and her diction is far better than others #oh I’m not meh on ruthie’s beggar woman i just forgot because all beggar women are kind of the same to me sorry ashfskhfs

Deborah x Isidore = Pure Comedy

I started reading “The Perks of Being a Villainess“ / “Being A Wicked Woman Is Comfortable And Pleasant” recently, and the male lead (Isidore Visconti) is absolutely hilarious. That guy literally fell for the MC - Deborah at first sight and didn’t even notice! And the hilarious part is that Deborah knows him as both him and his second identity, and the scenes in which she talks to the other identity about the first one are the most hilarious. He is literally pouting every time she calls his real identity suspicious xD THAT MAN WAS LOST THE MOMENT HE TALKED TO HER FOR THE FIRST TIME AND HE IS NOT GOING BACK. This romance is hilarious as fuck. Also, the huge plus of this manhwa is that the main character is a science major so SHE IS GOOD AT MATH, and she uses that math knowledge to literally solve magical equations. I feel strong feminist vibe coming from here. A woman who knows how to count and is damn good at it is something I needed in those “I was Reborn as a Villainess” manhwas.

(This is a face of a man that was lost to love).

Brought the Woman of Tomorrow paperback for comicbook day (yay!) and while I did get 3 more floppies with it than I expected (5 in total), unfortunately the only one that fits my interests is a preview of the rebirth WW run by Rucka, which I've already read...
