My mind seems to be stuck on my childhood, lol. Can someone explain to me why I’ve now thought of a Land Before Time AU with the Art Squad, lmao. Nath would be Littlefoot, just because I guess. Alix would obviously be Cera, I mean come on. Rose is Petrie, but a slightly perkier version. Because people HC them as being related, Mari and Marc could be Ducky and Spike. Juleka would be Chomper, but like, WAY more intimidating. IDK about most everyone else, but this is just an idea I thought was cute. They’d go on all sorts of adventures in the Great Miraculous Valley and get into all kinds of cute baby Dino shenanigans. IDK, it’s just something I thought of.

I always think it's funny (in a laughing-with-you way) when I see a piece of art on the internet and recognize it because I've seen the reference picture or base drawing because it gives me sense of community.

Like, there are pros who've been drawing for years, and there are beginners who are just starting to learn, and there are people who draw as their deepest passion, and there are people who draw just for fun because it makes them happy. But at the end of the day, we're all still Art Kids, and we've got a lot in common.

The final of the friend group drawings! We have the artists. From left to right we have Danny, Minnie, Rena, & Sam. I wanted to save Rena's group for the end since she's my main girl. I'm not sure the next time I'll do art for this project but this isn't the last of them. I’m keeping a lot of the info on this project close to my chest because I want to do it justice eventually.

One of the most memorable interactions was Saturday. Into our booth strolls a small family, tempted by free samples of freshly brewed tea. We chatter and give them the spiel, that the tea is character merch and we’re a cozy health-based app called Forage Friends.

The young girl zeroes in on our pride pins.

“They have my pin!” She says excitedly. “They have my flag!”

The dad blinks. He is surprised, but also calm and positive when he sees it’s the lesbian flag. “Oh. That’s… different from what you told me.”

“That was months ago, dad.” And she rolls her eyes. Definitely a teenager.

I turn to him and say, “Yeah, dad.” And we share a little laugh about it.

He says, “No, it’s great. That’s amazing, honey. It was just news to me.”

“Well, I guess I just decided to stop lying to myself. About liking guys. Like right now.”

A little lesbian just came out to her dad and he was super cool about it.

I’m standing there in my tie-dye mask and my cheery blue apron pouring tea and making small talk and I’m trying really hard not to cry or compare it to my experience, the fire & brimstone, the disgust, the conditional acceptance as long as I never bring it up.

So as this beautiful bonding is going on, the girl’s even younger brother turns his gaze around. He’s in a snorlax hoodie and bored and wants to go look at the swords across the hall. But on the other side of our booth….

“WHY DO PEOPLE DRAW THAT?” He asks loudly, and we all turn to our neighboring booth.

Our neighbors were extremely lovely people. Every time we had a break we would talk, and we became good friends over the weekend. They kept apologizing that their booth was next to ours and we kept repeating that it was totally fine. Their booth was great. I even bought their merchandise.

The thing that was so contentious, that they felt the need to apologize for, was that they were selling explicit titty hentai stickers of popular characters. They were censored with little yellow R18 labels but the content was very clear.

So back to the family: I freeze and immediately go somewhere else to let dad handle this question. With adult customers I’ve been loud and positive about our neighbors. (“Man, how has it been boothing next to them?” It’s been great! They bring a lot of foot traffic and they’re kind and wonderful professional neighbors. If anything it’s a fun juxtaposition. We believe in artistic freedom. I bought a sticker too!)

But this is a kid, it’s not my place to explain anything…. But I was extremely curious about what this chill dad would say.

“Well,” dad says with a long measured silence between each word. “Sometimes people are horny.”

i love graffiti. "comics and jazz are the only american art forms" you forgot graffiti. did you remember graffiti? That art form birthed in Philly and NYC in the early 70s by poor Black kids. that art form that spread all over the world and influenced so many. that's used without irony in commercials when they're trying to appeal to a "young urban" customer.

did you forget graffiti? that racism broken windows theory victim? that reach the establishment takes claiming that it's exclusively violent gang members throwing up those full-color pieces and wildstyle tags in the middle of the night outsmarting fifty security cameras because the billboard was ugly anyway. as if, even if it was, it wouldn't be impressive as all hell. risking brutality and fall damage so your art can occupy the space a gentrified condo named something like "Coluumna" took away from you. proving that despite only assholes affording to live here anymore there's still a soul beneath it. an animal with dripping stripes and teeth that go clack-clack tsssss

Land Before Time AU!!!

So I decided to expand on the idea from my latest random thought! Here’s a more in-depth look at the little AU I thought of! @artzychic27 @imsparky2002

Background:

All the kids live with their families with all their other Dino friends in the Great Miraculous Valley, a hidden cove safe from sharptooths and other dangerous creatures. That doesn’t stop the kids from wandering out and getting into misadventures though.

Nathaniel:

(Littlefoot)

Species: Long Neck (Apatosaurus)

Bio:

Lost his mother to a sharptooth attack, lives with his grandparents, doesn’t know what happened to his father

Wants to be a responsible and good dinosaur, loves learning wisdom from his elders

Has a bit of a puppy crush on Marc

Wants to help everyone in the Valley get along, and loves to draw in the dirt

Can’t wait for the day he grows up to be big and tall like older long necks

Alix:

(Cera)

Species: Three Horn (Triceratops)

Bio:

Lives with her father and older brother

Feisty and rebellious, always getting into trouble

Likes ramming things with her horn

Frequently butts heads with Nath, but cares about him all the same

Insists she’s not afraid of anything

Rose:

(Petrie)

Species: Flyer (Pteranodon)

Bio:

Lives with her parents in one of the High Caves

Excitable and curious, always in a good mood

Says “Me” in place of “I” and people’s names in place of “You” (Like Petrie does)

Likes Juleka an awful lot

Not the most coordinated in the air

Marinette:

(Ducky)

Species: Swimmer (Parasaurolophus)

Bio:

Lives with her parents and adoptive brother, Marc

Says “Yep yep yep!”/“No No No!” when she’s excited or apprehensive about something

Still more than a little clumsy

Very close and affectionate with her brother

The groups’ voice of reason, much of the time

Marc:

(Spike)

Species: Spike Tail (Stegosaurus)

Bio:

Lost his mothers as an egg, was adopted by Marinette’s parents

Almost never talks, only when it’s important and never more than a couple words

Very protective of his adoptive sister, carries her on his back everywhere

Shares a very close bond with Nathaniel

Still mega shy, and a big eater

Juleka:

(Chomper)

Species: Sharptooth (Tyrannosaurus Rex)

Bio:

Was found by the others as an egg, and became friends as soon as she hatched

Sent back to the valley for safety by her mom, the only sharptooth who lives there

Only eats fish and water food, so no need to worry

Shares a special bond with Rose

Worries that people are afraid of her in the Valley

I am actually so serious I think it really messes with a childs creativity and joy to tell them to never make a mary sue OC. Like that unbridaled form of joy where you make a self insert OC who super cool and everyone loves them and they have every superpower in the world SHOULD be something a kid makes, it nourishes their ability to create things for fun and not be stifled by "oh but what if my character is too overpowered and cringey...". whatever

#^ 10 y/o me was obsessed w/ art YTers who would always talk about good and bad art and mary sues and stuff #I think kids should be encouraged to make bad art and stupud OCs as much as possible abd im so serious about that. i think its actually #amazing for their development as both as person and artist
