Yoga helps us develop deep powers of concentration. When we can focus the mind and harness the energy of our thoughts we can move mountains. But if the mind is left untrained, all the potential remains untapped. Yoga practice demands a certain level of difficulty because it is the intensity that helps concentrate the mind. Finding the right mix of challenge is part of what a good teacher can do. Without expert guidance we may push too hard or too little, get lost and confused along the path. To follow in the footsteps of a teacher is a blessing, a kind of grace, that makes the journey easier. We may never achieve all the asanas and that’s ok. The real benefits are always happening on the unseen planes within. Visvamitrasana is the pose named after a king-turned-sage Visvamitra. The meaning of Vishwamitra is; Visva means ‘the world’, Mitra means ‘a friend’. Sage Visvamitra is known for his yogic power of compassion towards all the people he used to meet. This pose gives an opening to the heart i.e. compassion center in our body, so Visvamitrasana is dedicated to sage Vishwamitra.

This asana not just provides strength and vigor, which utilizes the prana to nourish the life but also helps in establishing a balance within. So, the practitioner is able to tune in with their surroundings and react in a friendly manner to keep humanity alive for the ages.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to use this photo. At the time I liked these photos but after the fact I started to doubt them. The ones with the midway in the background turned out so good but after I changed my outfit I was so uncomfortable walking back to the spot I had been before. People (women) were giving me the most hateful glances for my red/white outfit and it was SO CROWDED here on Sunday evening so I said to my husband how about I take the rest of my photos here. I was going to retake photos yesterday but it started raining and hasn’t stopped yet so here I am using this photo after all.
