The birds outside woke you up this morning, the sound of their sweet melodies peacefully bringing you out of your much needed slumber. The sun was barely rising over the mountains so you knew it was still very early. The alarm clock next to you read ‘5:44 am’. You knew Chan was laid behind you, his heavy arm curled over your figure, holding you close.
You took a moment to appreciate the feeling of being trapped by him - of his warmth. This was quickly becoming your favorite pastime; laying here with him just enjoying his presence. A part of you wanted nothing more than to lay here all day, wasting away with him. A bigger part of you needed to be productive. You had slept away most of the day yesterday and were feeling quite energized from the rest.
Chan did say last night that you had things to do today, so why not get this show on the road! It would be a nice surprise for the pack to wake up to a clean house and hot breakfast. First things first- getting out of the alphas hold on you. You shimmied against him, lightly lifting the appendage that held you hostage to squeeze out. You paused when you heard him sigh in his sleep, only to resume when he let out a snore. Cutie pie.
You grabbed the pillow that you had been laying on and jammed it in place of where you rested previously, in Chans hold. The alpha must have smelled you on the pillow since he pulled it closer to his body.
After doing your business in the bathroom you went on the hunt for cleaning supplies. You crept through the halls opening doors you knew to be closets until you finally found the supplies in a closet on the first floor. Upon finding them you immediately got to work.
Starting with dusting, then sweeping and mopping the entire first floor. After that you did all the available bathrooms and then finished with a quiet clean of the top two floors. The kitchen would come after you made breakfast. Surprisingly it only took you until about 8:00 am to get all that done. You felt very efficient! To your surprise none of the boys have awoken yet. You didn’t hear one peep while cleaning.
You also took the time to add more comfort items to the living spaces. The omega in you begged to make it more nestable so you did. Adding blankets, extra pillows and even a few of your new stuffed animals to couches and chairs. The goal was they would start to retain the smells of your new packmates then you could cuddle the items without shame.
Next you wandered into your own room. All the bags from yesterday remained there untouched. Sorting through you put away all your clothes and picked out a nice outfit for today. It was almost summer time so you knew it would be warm today and opted for a green floral cami dress that went just above your knees. Minho must have picked this out for you, but it was so so cute you had to wear it. It was just your style. Grabbing the dress and some panties you went to take a shower and to finish getting ready for the day.
The shower was where you did your best thinking. A place to escape just you and your thoughts. As you washed your hair and body with the strawberry scented products you reflected on the whole pack. If you were a sane person it would scare you just how comfortable you are getting with the pack in such a short amount of time. And how comfortable they are with you.
But you’re not a sane person. You’re an omega in love. All sanity is thrown out the window when you find your mate. All you want is to be perfect for him. And in turn also for the whole pack.
There was a blow dryer and curler amongst your things in your room as well as makeup you had chosen while shopping so when you came out you were able to fully get ready for the day. You felt very cute today, you didn’t have any reason to look super nice back when you were with your family seeing as you rarely were allowed to leave the house- and if you did leave never would you have been allowed to wear a dress or anything remotely revealing. Fathers orders.
You hoped your alpha and pack would like it on you. You straightened yourself up before heading down to cook. It was nearing 9:30 so you hoped they would start getting up any time now.
Down in the kitchen as you were gathering ingredients you noticed a small sound system attached to the wall and a remote sitting on the island. Grabbing the remote you pressed the power button and when you saw the small light indicating it was on you pressed play. Out came the melodies of a familiar band. 5 Seconds of Summer? Whoever is hooked up to this obviously has great taste!
That was where Seungmin found you, whisking eggs and belting out the words to ‘She looks so perfect’ and he couldn't agree more. ‘She does look perfect’ He thought to himself. He stood there leaning against the wall admiring you for a solid 2 minutes before you noticed him, suddenly being able to smell another person around you spun around in embarrassment at being caught like that.
“Seungmin!”
He cracked a smile at you, eyes scanning you up and down before settling on your reddened face. “Hey baby. Whatcha doin?”
You turned away from him to try and hide the blush that seeped onto your cheeks, “Nothing. Just trying to get breakfast together. What are you doing?”
He shrugged “Been up for a few minutes when I heard a commotion in here. The house looks really great. Was that your doing baby?” You felt him approach you while you nodded.
“Umm yeah, I woke up early and wanted to get some things done for you guys.” You continued to whisk the eggs without looking at him.
“Mmm” He reached for your face, turning you towards him, “ It is greatly appreciated, omega.”
You let out a squeak when he called you that, causing a smirk to appear on his face.
Seungmin could smell how pleased you were so he didn’t give it another thought before he leaned down and pressed a chaste kiss directly on your lips. He pulled away and licked his own lips still gazing into your shocked eyes.
“How long until food is ready you think?” He asked. You couldn’t believe how nonchalant he was being right now after he just kissed you!!
‘Should I pretend my heart isn’t beating out of my chest?’ You wondered.
“ A-about 20 minutes.” Dammit you stuttered! Get a grip! You mentally scolded yourself.
“Perfect. I'll wake the pack”  He said it with an evil smirk, looking forward to the task.
-----------------------------------
Wake the pack he did indeed. By playing police sirens on his phone and bursting into everyone's rooms cackling when they swore at him and dodging thrown pillows (and one stuffy from Felix). If you had known he was going to do that then you would have woken them yourself! Though admittedly it was pretty efficient, since it was a matter of minutes until the rest of your pack made their way downstairs, looking tired and grumpy.
The grumpiness left every single one of them though, when they caught eyes on you. Looking oh so delectable in your little dress cooking for them. What a perfect thing to awaken too.
Not that you noticed much, you were still caught up on the feeling of Seungmins lips on your own. Each boy greeted you as they came down, most giving you hugs - except Changbin who not only hugged you but did his signature of lifting you from the ground.
When Minho had come down you thanked him for the dress. He knew you would look great in the outfit and damn he was right.
“You’re welcome, Baby. It looks good on you.” He replied and gave you a wink
Chan came down last as you and Minho were setting the table, looking freshly showered.
“There's my sweet girl. I was wondering where you wandered off too.” the alpha kissed your temple. He took the stack of plates from your hands and continued your task.
“Good morning Channie.” You reached back for the plates but he shooed you out with a smack to your rear.
“Nuh uh looks like you’ve done enough. Sit down and get some food, omega.” He raised his brows at you when it looked like you were about to protest. You begrudgingly took a seat in your normal spot. Chan gave you a pleased smile. “Good girl.”
Once the whole pack was sat together you all discussed each other's plans. Changbin was hitting the gym (what was new there), Minho wanted to get more food for the house and Felix wanted to join him to the store, while Hyunjin had his weekly art class he teaches at the community center every wednesday afternoon.
“What are you up to today, baby?” Jisung asked with a mouth full.
“Oh, I don’t actually know.” You looked to Chan for the answer.
He wiped his mouth with a napkin, “Well you have an appointment in about an hour to see a doctor, we need to make sure everything is okay after you got off the suppressants. Then we’re heading over to the police station to clear up your missing persons status.”
You were confused. “I have a missing person status?”
“You ran away from home, Baby. Ran away from Hongjoong, who probably paid a pretty penny for a sweet girl like you. Makes sense they would look for you.” Jeongin reasoned nervously. The youngest alpha would never admit it but he was honestly scared about the Ateez pack coming for you or Chan. It was weighing on a few of their minds.
Chan could sense the uneasiness in the room. “But we’re getting it taken care of today. I already have it all ready to go, just need you to sign a few things and you'll be golden. No more worrying about Hongjoong.” He smiled with that predator's smile he had. His words brought you some ease, and you nodded at him. His next words though, shook you to your core.
“Plus, if that asshole did decide to show his face around here I would take care of it.”
--------------------------------------------
After dropping off Hyunjin and Changbin at their respective locations you and Chan headed for the doctors office. Chan had assured this man was very good at his job and could be trusted.
Doctor Bong had been Chan's doctor for years, and before that had been childhood friends with the alpha. He was a friendly beta man, albeit younger than any doctor you had ever seen, and he did his best to help you relax with small talk as he examined you. Even though you’re the first real omega he has treated he still had some knowledge as he had to do a course on omegas in medical school.
“Given how long you had been on the suppressants I am going to need a small blood sample to examine.” Dr.Bong said woefully at seeing your expression. “ I know it’s not ideal, but you had been on some pretty powerful drugs, Y/n.”
“Not to mention illegal.” Chan muttered scornfully.
Bong nodded “Yes that too. There's a reason you can’t just pick up a prescription for them. They could cause a lot of damage and we need to be sure you’re functioning correctly.”
Your alpha grabbed your hand and released a calming pheromone to relax you. “This is to help you, baby.”
You took a deep breath and prepared for the needle. Chan was laying his scent on thick, it now taking over all your senses completely distracting you from the blood draw. You were so wrapped up in him that you didn’t notice the draw had been done until Dr.Bong was putting a bandage on you.
You snapped out of the daze when Dr.Bong exclaimed “All done! We will send this into the lab asap and get back to you by tomorrow morning at the latest. From what I can tell so far though your body is functioning pretty normally, maybe just your hormones are a little wacky. I would refrain from any.. Unprotected fun until we get the results in to be sure.” He looked pointedly at Chan.
“Damn” Chan smirked and you gasped in embarrassment.
“Chan!!”
He only laughed at your mortification.
“Before you go” Bong said, “If everything checks out alright are you going to need a prescription for non hormonal birth control?”
You were too shy to answer correctly, only nodding when Chan said “Yes please Bong. Wanna have some time with my girl before we have babies.”
As you were checking out with reception Chan thanked the Doctor.
“I appreciate you getting us in to see you at such short notice Bong.” The alpha bro hugged his friend.
“Anything for you, Chris. I am so happy you found your person. I’ll keep you updated as soon as I get the results in.”
“Thanks man.” He saw you approaching him, “Ready to go gorgeous?”
You smiled happily, now that the hard part for you was over, “Yes alpha!” You turned to the doctor “Thank you Doctor Bong!”
Your alpha grabbed your hand and you were off to your next stop.
-----------------------------------
The people at the police station had the paperwork ready for you upon your arrival. They just had to ask you a few questions regarding your safety, you signed the document stating you were in fact not missing and that was that.
It felt like a massive weight had been lifted from your shoulders, Chans too by the scent coming off of him.
The sheriff congratulated Chan on finding his omega, clapping him on the back in a fatherly way. It seemed like everyone in town knew the alpha. It had been explained to you that Chan's family had lived in the town of Silver Ridge for generations, helping to cultivate it and protect it. His family owned the property you now live on, only now it belonged solely to your alpha. He had grown up here. His parents left the small town  with him and his siblings when he was a teenager, wanting a change of scenery. Chan had only returned when he was an adult and his grandfather had passed, leaving his massive home to your alpha.
He had a stake in his family business of buying and selling massive commercial properties, so he was very wealthy. Though he didn’t flaunt it.To him it was just one of the ways he provided for his pack.  Not that you cared if he had money or not. You loved him for him, not his money.
After the police station there was still about an hour before you were supposed to pick up Hyunjin and Changbin so Chan took you to a little diner down the road where he claimed they made ‘the best chili fries ever’ and that you had to try them.
He dragged you to an old booth in the corner, his normal spot he claimed, and ordered a massive plate of chili fries and each of you a milkshake.
As he ate you just admired him. It was crazy how handsome he was, even with a mouth full of fries his beauty was effortless. He caught your eyes and grinned at you.
“What are you looking at, beautiful?”
You looked down ashamed you had been caught staring “Nothing.” You glanced up at him to see him still looking at you in amusement. “You’re just really handsome is all, Channie.”
He chuckled at your words “ And you are too sweet, my gorgeous girl.”
You felt the mating claim on your neck tingle at his compliment, so subconsciously  you raised your hand and lightly touched the area. Of course Chris noticed- he never took his eyes off you- and asked in concern “ Does it still hurt?”
“No, just..” There was that blush again. He patiently waited for you to find your words. “Just whenever you say sweet things to me.. It.. tingles.”
The alpha let out a small growl at your admittance, feeling his pants tighten.
“Does yours do that too, alpha?” you asked tentatively.
“Tingle wouldn’t be the word I would use, baby. But I definitely feel the connection in my bite.” He winked at you.
“W-what does yours feel like?”
His stare was piercing into your soul, “Baby. I burn for you.” You gasped as he continued “ It's this ever present heat that dwells within me whenever you are near me.  As if I had been living in a tundra my whole life never knowing warmth and now I’ve suddenly been transported to the desert. Inescapable and all encompassing.”
Oh my fucking GOD
Did he really just say that?!
What the fuck do I say to that?
You were short circuiting. You just couldn’t believe this perfect specimen of a man was spilling his heart out to you, in a public diner no less!
Your pleased scent was cascading off of you in waves at this point, Chan could see the other patrons start to turn to look at you, nostrils flaring. He noticed one alpha man in particular start to fidget in his seat while gazing at you.
Chan narrowed his eyes as if challenging the other male before addressing you, “Time for us to go now, my love.” He threw down a few 20s on the table and stood, grabbing your hand and leading you out. Your alpha was pumping out menacing pheromones, letting others know he wasn’t one to fuck around with.
You finally caught onto what was happening when you saw heads turning to watch you walk out. You clutched harder onto Chan, holding his arm close to you as he led you out.
“ ‘m sorry.” You murmured as you exited the restaurant, climbing into the car as he held the door open for you.
He leaned down and pressed a hot kiss against your mouth, letting it linger for a second before he pulled away.
“Don’t apologize. Not your fault those bastards can't keep their eyes or their noses to themselves.” He gave you a tight smile at you before closing the door once he was sure you were secure.
You couldn’t help but feel like you soured the mood, the guilt beginning to feel like a pit in your stomach. Chan climbed into the driver's seat next to you and started the car. He knew you felt bad about what happened. “Seriously Baby, it’s no big deal. It was about time to go pick up Jinnie and Bin anyways.” He gave you another kiss and you were off.
----------------------------------
Your mood improved slightly after picking up the other two boys, they always brightened your day. Changbin was still slightly sweaty when he got in the car, his musk making you dizzy. As if he could tell he gave you a wink when you looked at him in the folding mirror.
Hyunjin had a large canvas with him that was covered in a sheet blocking anyone from seeing what lies underneath. When you asked him what he had made he blushed and held the canvas close to him, muttering that it was a surprise. Of course Changbin would never let that slide so he relentlessly teased the beta, tugging on the sheet and whining about needing- not wanting - to see it. Hyunjin held his ground and refused each time, slapping the alphas hands away after every tug.
Arriving home Changbin flung his door open and opened your door for you before Chan could, giving his alpha a sly smile when you thanked him. “Ever the gentleman, aren't you Binnie.” You teased him. He nodded enthusiastically.
Jisung greeted you at the front door when you walked in, planting a wet smooch on your cheek causing you to squeal and laugh, pushing him away. “Jisung!”
“Mm say my name again baby.” He leaned in for another kiss but instead licked your cheek quickly then ran away cackling maniacally.
“AHH JISUNG!”
You went to chase after him but were stopped by Hyunjin grabbing your arm gently.
“Ignore him baby, I do.”
You huffed. “Fine.”
The beta snickered and lowered his hand to hold yours, the other still gripping his canvas. “Can I show you something? In my room.”
You nodded “Of course.” He led you up to his room. Chan gave your rear a pat when he passed you.
You had never been in Hyunjins space before. The space was so…Hyunjin. Cream colored sheets and curtains, a big easel by the wide bay windows, shelves lined with paints and mountains of sketch books, and floral paintings covered the walls from floor to ceiling. His bed was unmade but it somehow added to the charm of the room. An artist's room.
He closed the door behind you, and led you to take a seat on his bed. The beta then took the canvas in his hands - still covered- and placed it on his easel. He turned to you and fiddled with his hands. You gave him a patient look, waiting for him to gather himself.
“Promise you won't laugh.” He states.
You made an X over your heart. “Cross my heart, I won't laugh.”
He let out a nervous breath and then tore the sheet from over the artwork.
You weren't prepared for what lay underneath, a gasp leaving you.
It was you. Hyunjin had painted you. In the exact outfit you were wearing now. He made you look ethereal. Capturing your image in a way that felt too perfect. In the painting you were sitting by an open window looking out into a field of flowers.
“Oh my god, Hyunjin.”
He studied your features, looking for any signs of displeasure. He found none.
“I was teaching a class today and the topic we worked on was things that bring you joy.” You looked at him like you were going to cry, tears on your lash line. “The only thing I could think of was you. Of how effortlessly beautiful you are.”
A sob escaped your lips involuntarily. The betas eyes widened in panic, upset he had done something wrong. He rushed to your side and took your hands in his own. “I'm sorry baby! I’ll get rid of it!”
“No!” You demanded, still crying. “ I can’t believe you think of me this way. It’s so beautiful, Jinnie. Way too beautiful to be me.”
He shook his head disagreeing. “ This is how I see you, baby. To me you are the most beautiful girl in the world. I can feel myself falling for you.”
You acted without even thinking about it, and crashed your lips into his. He let out a noise of surprise and you pulled back quickly.
“I am so sorry Hyun-” Before you could finish your sentence he kissed you again. He let go of your hands and brought them up to cup your face, deepening the kiss. He swiped his tongue along your bottom lip asking for permission which you gladly granted, parting for him. He tasted so sweet. Like rock candy, or a jolly rancher. Similar to his scent. It drove you crazy.
He was the first to pull away, your lips chasing his. “You don’t know how badly I’ve wanted to do that.” He rested his forehead against his own, eyes closed and breathing heavy.
You released your own shaky breath, his thumbs wiping away your tears. “I thought you were going to yesterday, when you left me in front of my door.”
“I wanted to. I just didn’t know if you wanted me like I wanted you. Like I need you.” He could smell the sudden flare of arousal emanating from you.
“ I do, Hyunjin. I need you too. It’s still taking some getting used to that it’s ok for me to need you, but I do. I think I’m falling for you too.” You were honest with him and he rewarded you by nuzzling his nose into yours, giving it a peck.
“I won’t do anything to make you uncomfortable, baby.” Though if your smell was any indication you were quite enjoying yourself.
You shook your head, “I’m not uncomfortable Jinnie. In fact I.. I want more.”
“Oh baby.” Hyunjin purred then reattached his mouth to yours and he lightly leaned you back to lay on his bed, hovering above you while he kissed you. He stuck his tongue back into your mouth, massaging your own with the wet appendage.
You let out a squeak when you felt his hand find your thigh, his warm fingers running up and down your skin. Your own hands found the front of his shirt, tugging him closer to you. You felt yourself get drunk on the taste of him.
He slid his hands up to your hips, under your dress, and he drummed his fingers there. Without removing his lips from your skin he peppered kisses from your lips to your chin and down your neck, the opposite side from your mating mark.
“Tell me to stop.” He said in between kisses. “Tell me to stop before I go too far.”
“I don’t want you to stop.”
“Omega.”  His right hand traveled from your hip to your clothed core, thumbing over the wet patch. “Already so wet for me, huh? I haven't even touched you yet. My dirty girl.” You could feel him smirk against your skin, his kisses turning sloppy and wet.
He rubbed against the wet patch through your panties, pushing the material between your folds and stimulating your bundle of nerves.
A small moan slipped from you and you bit your lip. By now your slick was building quickly, completely soaking the fabric.
The beta hummed at feeling it. “I can feel you starting to wet my fingers, baby. Can’t let all that goodness go to waste, can we?” He cooed rhetorically.
Hyunjin laid one more suckling kiss to your chest (that will surely turn into a hickey) then he scooted himself down your body and bunched up your dress to sit over your hips. He finally got a good look at your soaked panties- a pair of green lacy ones. ‘Fitting’ He thought.
He was drowning in the scent of your arousal, being this close was like a slap in the face. He could taste it before he even got his mouth on you. Hyunjin looked up at your red, panting face one last time before closing his eyes and licking up the wet patch on your underwear. He let out the filthiest moan he had ever made when he made contact. In turn making you moan too.
“Ji-jinnie.”
At the sound of his name he reached up and pulled your panties down your hips just enough to lick you with no barrier, then he dove in with his tongue. He swiped it up and down your folds, over the slit, collecting the liquid that leaked from you, drinking it like he was parched. Like he was dying of thirst.
Your hands found his hair and you yanked in pleasure, your back arching. He took that as his invitation to go further, slithering his tongue to circle your clit where he wrapped his lips around it and suckled.
A whine tore through you, so good but wanting more.
“Jinnnnie please”
He hummed in response, the vibrations flowing straight through to your core.
“Nnnnnggghh” you groaned.
He humored you and brought two fingers up to your opening, coating himself in the slick, before pushing in slowly up to the last knuckle.
Your panting got louder at the intrusion. You were finding it difficult to keep quiet with how good it felt, the whole pack probably knows by now anyway. Not that you cared right now, but later you would be mortified. Oh well that was a problem for later.
He gave you a second to adjust, feeling you clench on his fingers every time he licked your bundle, before easing the digits out slowly then back, a steady motion that gradually got quicker as he went. Soon enough he found the perfect rhythm where your moans got the loudest. He paid attention to things like that.
Your thighs were beginning to shake from the pleasure, you knew if he kept it up you would tip into oblivion.
“Jinnie ‘m gonna cum.” You pulled his hair in warning. He stayed steadfast, if anything he licked harder trying to get you there. After only a few more thrusts of his fingers you came with a cry, hips bucking against his face and hands knotted in his blond locks.
‘Damn she sounds divine when she comes’ He mused in his head, instead letting a moan of his own escape him at the taste of your cum and the sweet sounds you made for him.
He pulled his fingers out of you and lifted his face to show you the wetness that covered the bottom half of his face. Then he made a show of sucking those same fingers into his mouth, eyes rolling when they hit his tongue.
“Hyunjin!” You squealed and hid your face, “That's so dirty!”
“Only for you, baby.” It hurt how sincere he was. “Do you wanna continue, or was that enough? I don’t wanna push you too far.”
Even though you were a little sensitive from the last few days you still wanted him. “ Wan’ you Jinnie. Need you.”
He stood quickly to pull down his pants and underwear, revealing his length to you. It was so pretty. Long but on the slimmer side. Drool worthy.
He removed his bottoms from himself completely, and pulled his shirt up over his head letting you get a good look at his slim but fit figure. He was tan like he had been in the sun recently. He reached into his bedside table for a condom, remembering what his alpha had said about not cumming in you. Yet. He quickly rolled it on.
He got back on the bed and crawled up your body to hover over you, where he then gave you a peck on the mouth. “Are you sure, baby?”
“Yes. Please Hyunjin.” you purred.
He groaned “You’re gonna kill me one day.”
The beta took himself in his hand and lined himself up, sweeping through the liquid to coat him, then slid inside inch by inch, giving you time to adjust to him.
Your arms came to wrap around his bare shoulders, a long drawn out moan in his ears like the most beautiful melodies.
You were so warm inside, and you gripped him like a vice so tightly he almost stopped breathing. After a beat he gave you a gentle thrust, then another and another, going deeper with each one. He took one of your thighs and wrapped it around his waist to press himself further into you, letting you feel his weight. If he died now he would die a happy man, having gotten a taste of what it’s like to be with you.
With each thrust you let out small high pitched noises, unable to contain them. Not that Hyunjin wanted you too. It wasn’t long before you were close to the edge once again. You were still worked up from the last one.
Hyunjin could feel his impending orgasm but he needed you to come first. He brought two fingers up to your mouth and ran them along your lips gathering the drool that was accumulating there. Then he took those same digits and lowered them between your bodies to your clit, where he rubbed hard figure 8s.
That seemed to be all you needed, your arms tightening around him as you came hard on his cock. Your eyes screwed shut as you moaned.
When you came you clenched hard. Hard enough to push Hyunjin to orgasm, he crashed his lips into yours and he shook against you as he filled the condom.
For a few minutes he just held you there against him, both of you breathing hard. He wasn’t an alpha so he didn’t have to worry about a knot and was able to slip out if you easily. He held the condom secure as he did so, then stood up and quickly took it off and disposed of it in the trash can in the corner.
You were still panting but coming too as he stood up. Can’t believe that just happened. There was a twinge of guilt for it, but that was quickly replaced with peace when Hyunjin gave you that signature grin with his pouty lips.
He came back to his bed where you were still laying and plopped down next to you, giving you a kiss. “How was that, baby? Are you feeling ok?”
“Mmhmm” You answered, snuggling up to the beta, needing the after sex comfort.
“I hope you don't regret it.” His voice was timid now, as he put his face in your hair. "Don't regret me."
“No Hyunjin, of course not. I could never regret you.” There was zero hesitancy in your voice so he knew you were telling the truth. Chan had given you explicit permission, encouraged it, so there was nothing to regret. It felt good to be loved and wanted by these boys. Hyunjin definitely made you feel that way.
He showed it by taking care of you now, getting up to grab you some water and a fresh pair of underwear from your room. Then he plopped down next to you once again and engaged in some cuddles. You could get used to this.
A/N: Finnnnaallllyyyyyy getting some action from the other boys >:) I am so damn proud of this one yall idekkkk. These chapters are quickly becoming more and more self indulgent lol sorry

A Black Harvard law professor has been accused of tweeting, then deleting, the word "Karma" in an apparent response to Claudine Gay announcing her resignation as president of the university following accusations of plagiarism and a row over campus antisemitism.
The post was allegedly made on X, formerly Twitter, by Professor Ronald Sullivan Jr., who in 2019 was effectively demoted after serving as part of Harvey Weinstein's defense team when the disgraced film producer was facing sexual assault allegations.
Political commentator Wesley Yang shared what he claimed was a screenshot of Gay's post, adding: "Ronald Sullivan deleted this one word post written in response to former Harvard president Claudine Gay's resignation: 'Karma.'"
Newsweek could not immediately verify the veracity of the screenshot's content or that the tweet was directly related to Gay's resignation.
Newsweek has reached out to Sullivan and Harvard University for comment via email.
Sullivan's decision to represent Weinstein sparked a furious response from some students, after which Harvard decided not to extend his contract as an undergraduate residence faculty dean. According to student-run newspaper The Harvard Crimson, Gay, then dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, was one of those involved in the decision.
Gay announced she was stepping down as Harvard president on January 2, with a letter in which she claimed it was "in the best interests" of the university for her to resign after facing what she described as "personal attacks and threats fueled by racial animus."
It came amid an ongoing row over free speech and bigotry on campuses, which had already claimed the job of Liz Magill, who resigned as president of Pennsylvania University last month following a controversial House committee appearance alongside Gay and Sally Kornbluth, president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Sullivan faced protests on campus after The New York Post first reported he had joined Weinstein's defense team in January 2019, with demonstrators demanding he step down as faculty dean and for a public apology be issued.
Weinstein was later convicted of rape and sexual assault in the New York trial and sentenced to 23 years in prison. He was subsequently sentenced to an additional 16 years in prison by a court in Los Angeles in a separate case.
In response to the controversy, Sullivan sent a 1,200-word email to students at Winthrop, then his undergraduate faculty residence, stressing the importance of representing an "unpopular defendant."
In an interview with The Harvard CrimsonGay branded Sullivan's response to the row as "insufficient," and months later it was announced his position as Winthrop faculty dean would not be renewed.
Within hours of Hamas's October 7 attack on Israel, which resulted in around 1,200 people killed and another 240 taken into Gaza as hostages, 34 Harvard student organizations signed a statement written by the university's Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee stating they "hold the Israeli regime entirely responsible for all unfolding violence."
The move triggered a furious response from the university's Jewish center Harvard Hillel, which said the statement promoted "hatred and antisemitism."
Appearing before a House committee in December, alongside Magill and Kornbluth, Gay was asked whether "calling for the genocide of Jews violates Harvard code of conduct" by Rep. Elise Stefanik.
She replied "it depends on the context," sparking outrage and calls for her to resign. Speaking to The Harvard Crimson, Gay later apologized for her remarks, and said: "Calls for violence or genocide against the Jewish community, or any religious or ethnic group, are vile, they have no place at Harvard."
In December it was revealed Gay was facing an anonymous complaint of serial plagiarism, with additional allegations published by the Washington Free Beacon in January.
She initially denied any wrongdoing in response, stating: "I stand by the integrity of my scholarship." However, The New York Times reported that a Harvard investigation concluded there were cases of inadequate citation in her dissertation as well as at least two of her articles.

Progressive economists and advocates warned that the tentative debt ceiling agreement reached Saturday by the White House and Republican leaders would needlessly gash nutrition aid, rental assistance, education programs, and more—all while making it easier for the wealthy to avoid taxes.
The deal, which now must win the support of both chambers of Congress, reportedly includes two years of caps on non-military federal spending, sparing a Pentagon budget replete with staggering waste and abuse.
The Associated Press reported that the deal "would hold spending flat for 2024 and increase it by 1% for 2025," not keeping pace with inflation.
The agreement would also impose new work requirements on some recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) while scaling back recently approved IRS funding, a gift to rich tax cheats.
In exchange for the spending cuts and work requirements, Republican leaders have agreed to lift the debt ceiling until January 1, 2025—a tradeoff that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) is pitching as a victory to his caucus, which includes far-right members who have demanded more aggressive austerity.
President Joe Biden, for his part, called the deal "a compromise, which means not everyone gets what they want."
Lindsay Owens, executive director of the Groundwork Collaborative, said in a statement Saturday night that "this is a punishing deal made worse only by the fact that there was no reason for President Biden to negotiate with Speaker McCarthy over whether or not the United States government should pay its bills," alluding to the President's executive authority.
"After inflation eats its share, flat funding will result in fewer households accessing rental assistance, fewer kids in Head Start, and fewer services for seniors," said Owens. "The deal represents the worst of conservative budget ideology; it cuts investments in workers and families, adds onerous and wasteful new hurdles for families in need of support, and protects the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations from paying their fair share in taxes."
The agreement comes days before the U.S. is, according to the Treasury Department, set to run out of money to pay its obligations, imperiling Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid payments and potentially hurling the entire global economy into chaos.
House Republicans have leveraged those alarming possibilities to secure painful federal spending cuts and aid program changes that could leave more people hungry, sick, and unable to afford housing, critics said.
"For no real reason at all, hungry people are set to lose food while tax cheats get a free pass," wrote Angela Hanks, chief of programs at Demos.
While legislative text has not yet been released, the deal would reportedly impose work requirements on adult SNAP recipients without dependents up to the age of 54, increasing the current age limit of 49. Policy analysts and anti-hunger activists have long decried SNAP time limits and work requirements as cruel and ineffective at boosting employment. (Most adult SNAP recipients already work.)
"The SNAP changes are nominally extending work requirements to ages 50 to 54. In reality, especially as the new rule is implemented, this is just an indiscriminate cull of a bunch of 50- to 54-year-olds from SNAP who won't realize there are new forms they need to fill out," said Matt Bruenig, founder of the People's Policy Project.
Diane Yentel, president and CEO of the National Low Income Housing Coalition, wrote on Twitter that the agreement is "cruel and shortsighted," pointing to the work requirements and real-term cuts to rental assistance "during an already worsening homelessness crisis."
"House Rs held our nation's lowest-income people hostage in exchange for lifting the debt ceiling," Yentel continued. "The debt ceiling 'deal' could lead to tens of thousands of families losing rental assistance... Expanding ineffective work requirements and putting time limits on food assistance adds salt to the wound, further harming some of the lowest-income and most marginalized people in our country."
The White House and Republican leaders also reportedly agreed to some permitting reforms that climate groups have slammed as a boon for the fossil fuel industry. According to The New York Times, the agreement "includes measures meant to speed environmental reviews of certain energy projects," though the scope of the changes is not yet clear.
And while the deal doesn't appear to include a repeal of Biden's student debt cancellation plan—which is currently before the U.S. Supreme Court—it does contain a provision that would cement the end of the student loan repayment pause, drawing fury from debt relief campaigners.
Tumblr media
The deal must now get through Congress, a difficult task given likely opposition from progressive lawmakers who oppose attacks on aid programs and Republicans who want steeper cuts.
As the Times reported, "Lawmakers in the House Freedom Caucus were privately pillorying the deal on Saturday night, and the Congressional Progressive Caucus had already begun to fume about it even before negotiators finalized the agreement."
Amy Hanauer, executive director of the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, said Sunday that "it's a relief to see that congressional leaders and the President have come to an agreement to raise the debt limit and avert an economic disaster."
"But by instituting work requirements for critical assistance programs and rescinding important funding to crack down on wealthy tax cheats, this deal will rig the economy even more in favor of the most well-off Americans while failing to fix the real structural problems that led to the current debt crisis in the first place," said Hanauer. "The deal avoids the elephant in the room: it includes no new revenues even though tax cuts of the past few decades were a primary driver of deficit growth."
"And next up, many Republican lawmakers want to double down on tax cuts by pushing through many more tax cuts that would most help wealthy families and corporations," Hanauer added. "They should do the opposite."

This week, President Joe Biden signed an executive order on caregiving, which may sound like Washingtonspeak. It isn’t. It’s entirely possible that the order could make a real difference in the real lives of some real Americans.
But it’s still just executive action, which means there are limits to its potential. In that sense, the executive order is also a case study in the need for much more ambitious action ― action that will take a lot of work on politics and maybe some work on policy as well.
The order is basically an instruction to federal agencies to figure out ways of making child care and care for the elderly and people with disabilities more affordable, accessible and reliable ― all while helping out the caregivers themselves. The need for that kind of action is clear enough, or at least it should be.
Just this week, data analyst Jeremy Ney published an article showing that millions of Americans are paying a quarter of their incomes on outside child care, according to newly released Labor Department data. As Ney notes, that burden is especially crushing for low-income Americans who simply don’t have a quarter of their income left after paying for housing, food and other necessities. And then there are the parents who aren’t worried about the cost of child care — because they can’t find any.
Some child care centers closed during the pandemic. Those that didn’t or reopened are having trouble filling staff openings because of the tight labor market ― and the fact that if you’re looking for work, you might make more manning a register at Target than you can feeding, nurturing and watching over toddlers. The child care workforce is still about 60,000 short of where it was before the pandemic, according to the U.S. Labor Department. In a recent article from The 19th featuring reader emails about struggles to find child care, some described waiting lists for slots that measured in years, not months, with one saying they knew of a child care worker who gave out waiting list spots as wedding gifts. (Yes, wedding gifts ― not baby shower gifts.)
The labor scarcity extends to the workforce that staffs nursing homes and other forms of assisted living, as well as the workforce that goes into people’s homes to assist them there, which is what most seniors and people with disabilities would prefer. In the face of these shortages, some of the people who need care end up going without help at risk to their health or well-being, while others end up in the large-scale facilities they’re desperate to avoid.
Policymakers know all about this. Biden and his Democratic allies spent much of 2021 and 2022 trying to enact a set of sweeping, potentially groundbreaking initiatives to make both child care and home care more affordable and more reliable. It was supposed to be part of what they were calling the “Build Back Better” plan.
But the initiatives were expensive, each one requiring several hundred billion dollars of new expenditures in the first decade, and they fell out of the final legislation ― later renamed the “Inflation Reduction Act” ― at the insistence of Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and a handful of other lawmakers who opposed so much new spending. (HuffPost covered that history here, if you need a refresher.)
Biden and the Democrats say they haven’t given up trying to enact new reforms on that scale. But with a Republican House pushing for massive cuts in federal spending ― and holding the nation’s economic well-being hostage in an attempt to get its way ― the prospects for enacting such a program in this Congress are virtually nil. That explains the executive order, which represents Biden’s attempt to make a downpayment on a much larger effort.

If he wanted to hold back the darkness in her life even longer, he could have simply refused to marry her. All that it says to me about Tyrion is that he thinks not raping young girls makes him very noble.
about tyrion refusing to marry sansa: it sounds like you are asking the character to remove himself from his own world and look above it, with the panoramic point of view we have as readers. but worse, you are asking this of a *lannister* child of tywin.
it's impossible, at that point in the books, for tyrion not to do what tywin demands of him. impossible. if i have to explain to you the reasons why, i am afraid you simply do not understand the inner dynamics of house lannister as a whole. this is not a tyrion issue. this is a feudal issue and, in particular, a lannister issue. yes, every house needs to be ready to defend themselves, but tywin has taught jaime, cersei and tyrion, in very pragmatic, horrible ways, that there is no sacrifice too great to be made in the name of house lannister. that includes sacrificing his own children. also other people. (though it is debatable if tywin considers not-lannister people as human beings at all.)
tyrion tries, within these limitations, to offer sansa some sort of way out:
"My lady, this is no way to bring you to your wedding. I am sorry for that. And for making this so sudden, and so secret. My lord father felt it necessary, for reasons of state. Else I would have come to you sooner, as I wished." He waddled closer. "You did not ask for this marriage, I know. No more than I did. If I had refused you, however, they would have wed you to my cousin Lancel. Perhaps you would prefer that. He is nearer your age, and fairer to look upon. If that is your wish, say so, and I will end this farce."
sansa refuses his offer because it's not, actually, a choice: she is still a hostage, she is still bound to marry any lannister because of her claim, and, in her own words, tyrion was "kind to her." she remembers.
and about tyrion being noble for not raping a young girl: you know very well what that scene means. tywin is, in direct words, commanding a rape. the ethics of consent in westeros are tricky because high-borns very often have to marry for other reasons than love, freely chosen. you can't separate marriage from politics in a monarchy. but in this case, grrm makes it clear in every way possible that it is abuse: sansa is a child. sansa is a hostage. sansa struggles physically to be taken to her wedding. it's not your usual political alliance. behind the curtains it is abuse and everyone knows it.
including tyrion. it's a familiar situation for him, anon. not the political alliance, but receiving the order from his father to rape a girl he actually cares about in order to protect lannister glory and name. or did you forget about tysha entirely? he actually tells the story to sansa in the moment, not of the rape, but of the wedding. why is that so? because he simply misses his first wife? or because the situation is eerily similar?
even sansa (sansa, who has no reason whatsoever to empathize with tyrion in that moment, being another victim of tywin's machinations; sansa stark, who owes the lannisters absolutely nothing, who rightfully refused to kneel to them) can notice tyrion is afraid. sansa is not an empath by nature, but she learned, through abuse, to read people’s emotions when they represent a threat to her well being, and in that moment, the moment where tyrion IS objectively a threat to her, she looks at him and sees he is afraid:
He is as frightened as I am, Sansa realized. Perhaps that should have made her feel more kindly toward him, but it did not. All she felt was pity, and pity was death to desire. He was looking at her, waiting for her to say something, but all her words had withered. She could only stand there trembling.
isn’t that off, anon? why is tyrion afraid? afraid of what? or worse: afraid of whom? who is in the room that could harm him?
could it be, maybe, that tyrion is frightened because this wedding night is a perfect replica of the cruelest, most abusive, traumatic thing tyrion lannister has ever been through in his life?
"You're a child," he said.
She covered her breasts with her hands. "I've flowered."
"A child," he repeated, "but I want you. Does that frighten you, Sansa?"
extremely creepy of him to say that, right? we all agree the whole thing is horrible. why does he actually say that out loud? is it because he is simply just a creep, is it because he is trying to scare her? or because he has already been in a situation much like this one in which he was, himself, a child, the same age as Sansa, in which his body betrayed him before, in which he was coerced to participate in a sexual intercourse he didn’t want but he had to perform against his will and wish, and he is being forced to relive it by the orders of the same man who commanded it the first time?
"My lady," Tyrion said, "you are lovely, make no mistake, but... I cannot do this. My father be damned. We will wait. The turn of a moon, a year, a season, however long it takes. Until you have come to know me better, and perhaps to trust me a little." His smile might have been meant to be reassuring, but without a nose it only made him look more grotesque and sinister.
why does he refuse to rape her in the end, anon??? is it because he suddenly decides to be a noble, honorable, pure hero, is it because he decides to be the good lannister right there and then, because people are always 100% good or 100% terrible (this is exactly the kind of character george raymond richard martin writes after all)????
or is it MAYBE because he cannot do this to himself and someone he cares about again, not again, not again, please, goddamnit, NOT AGAIN???
It took all the courage that was in her to look in those mismatched eyes and say, "And if I never want you to, my lord?"
His mouth jerked as if she had slapped him. "Never?"
"Why," he said, "that is why the gods made whores for imps like me." He closed his short blunt fingers into a fist, and climbed down off the bed.
why is tyrion frustrated with sansa's refusal, anon?? is it because tyrion is just another entitled man who thinks sansa owes him affection or love or whatever??? OR is it maybe because that precise moment, that refusal is again echoing back to him what tywin tried to prove to him years ago with tysha: that no one would ever love him, that he is inherently unlovable, undesirable, because he is a disabled man, that the only good thing about him is his last name, the very thing sansa hates the most????
is there ANY possibility that this wedding night is a scene about TWO TRAUMATIZED PEOPLE???? not tyrion saving the day, not we, as readers, owing him cookies and pats on his back for not raping a young girl!!! not Sansa being a bitch for not saying yes to the poor little meow meow tyrion either!!!
but two characters being profoundly, deeply hurt by the same system, trying to save the SCRAPS OF THEIR DIGNITY by saying "no, I'm not going to do this, this is cruel to me, I am a human being, I'm not going to be part of this": tyrion, by letting sansa decide; sansa, by deciding, BRAVELY, to say NO when given the choice, even though she is DEADLY TERRIFIED of what might happen to her?
and in doing this, being alienated FROM EACH OTHER because even though neither of them want to be there, the situation doesn't allow for them to bond over it? OH MY GOD!!! WHEN DID THIS TRAGIC PREDICAMENT HAPPENED BEFORE IN CANON, I WONDER???
could it be. that maybe. the wedding night scene is not gratuitously glorification of abuse. but. a BRILLIANT writing device from GRRM part of showing, but not telling, what happened to tysha, but this time, the second time::::: from sansa’s point of view:
her point of view of house lannister in all its ugly cruelty behind the pretty faces and all the golden surface, and the way EVERYONE!!! in the end is sacrificed in the altar of ~tywin’s legacy~,
her point of view of tyrion as the one perpetrating the abuse against her at the same time he is caught up suffering the same abuse in some extent,
her point of view of her own vulnerable position in this game as a hostage crushing beneath all this mighty power,
… with a slightly hopeful twist in the end? being given a chance that tysha, a common girl with no great name, and tyrion, too young then - a CHILD, he was!!! sansa’s age!! - to understand what was happening at all, never had?
DO I HAVE YOUR PERMISSION, DEAR ANON, GIVEN THESE EVIDENT, CANONICAL TEXTUAL REASONS, TO HAVE A LITTLE EMPATHY FOR BOTH THESE CHARACTERS AT ONCE? OR DO YOU STILL WANT ME TO CHOOSE BETWEEN THEM??? HAVE I CONVINCED YOU OF THE REASONS WHY I FIND THIS SCENE AND MOMENT COMPELLING FROM A *NARRATIVE* POINT OF VIEW AND WHY I THINK THAT YES, IT WAS BRAVE AND KIND, ACTUALLY, TO OVERCOME ALL THOSE LAYERS OF DEEPLY INGRAINED TRAUMA, YES, I THINK THIS MOMENT MATTERS A LOT???
*screams into the void*
please let me out of this conversation. i want out. grrm ruined my life

So the moron is showing up yeah these idiots still on the race car companies and they're not building them and they own the car companies and they're not building them and the holding people hostage
There's a lot of people who are building kit cars no but there are some and they know how to do it. Regular folk minorities empire the max miscellaneous are taking the warlock stuff including their cars their houses their boats bank accounts because they have no other choice that's all that's left and the clones are taken from them. Fairly soon have you found out they're trying to force themselves to take over topside and it's already known I'm going at them with a vengeance and they're ripping their stuff out and they're tearing them out and killing them and they're not waiting to ask them who they are or to question them or anything and you'll soon be all gone. Recently there has been about of death here it's from an increase in oxygen and that's going to be a phenomenon very soon as in a few hours maybe by morning around 11:00 a.m. there was some oxygen out there today and our son can attest it wasn't too much but he did get some and you needed it and more shortly

Olympus
Ziggy Stardust I'm saying that the project is going on we have four days left and it's going to be tight and it's becoming less than 40 days shortly within a few hours and we do need all the assistance we can get any of our personnel that are not busy please report to this duty
I do need the help and I am in charge one of them and it is a wonderfully huge project and our son and daughter did terrific their ideas and thoughts of the matter are perfect it is a huge undertaking though and we are massive people we just need larger and pronto. They have a plan to raise them more of them that is and their proceeding out there at Black Rock canyon burning Man and that's what you call it there are about three trillion people along the perimeter armies representing 0.15% of the general populace that's huge going down and that should be enough yes to raise the entire army and the large one and they just decided to go down tonight believe it or not they've been sending probes and jets and all sorts of manners of Intel gathering and they think they know what they're doing and they're going to head in the right direction they say the place is littered with Giants and they will awaken them and they did change their priorities to seeking out the Giants and it's groups that don't have a lot of them no they're going after each other so basically it's a stupid thing they're doing and we need it they're going to wipe each other out and it's going to be a mess and that's exactly what we needed and including the max they're down there and they have bases and they're going after them and they're not very huge and they'll be wiped out and they have a lot of information there and we're expecting back up and they never sent it and requested it and said we'll be raped and you'll be gone and pretty much it'll happen similar way and they're saying you're a bastard and all this I don't have me do stuff then and sit here and treat me like a Macau or whatever so they're going to perish and it's going to be a blood bath and they're going to blame Trump and bja and Tommy f mostly and it will be the max and the large Giants will come out and many more after that and the schedule on the oceans dropping around the Canary Islands is looking better the positioning of those islands serve out 150 miles offshore no they're pretty far it's about 500 miles and it's going to require a lot of work for that to drop but there's a shelf out there and it goes all the way out and it's huge and it needs to drop and it needs to drop out there first to prevent tidal waves from coming in and if you drop it down close it will drop the whole thing and it's reverse of here and he understands it a little because he says it's going to drop here into the shore in a shallow and it drops at different times and it's true and it will depressurize and it will Cascade inwards out over there instead of outwards but here it's dropping it haphazard and it's not as big but when they drop the golf it's going to be the same thing it should drop in the middle and then Cascade in or there will be disasters and that's how you do it. And something to be said about that one piece of information he says it's better off not with me yet and we didn't see that they knew how to do it some of them and they are directing it. So they're going to be out there fairly soon they're not doing the middle of the ocean first but they're doing the shelf edge first it makes sense the ocean will drop at the shelf is only going to drop to down where the ocean is in only about 1,300 ft more it's not a huge straw they did calculate it it's not a huge drop so they will start there soon because they're getting the ships out and bigger ships and it taste less time the holes out there are about 50 miles wide and their big ships they have to go all the way inland no well yeah they do and the water hole is holding the pressure and leave it or not as it goes a bit deeper so it takes a while but there's only a few holes there and they're doing them now first and those ships are about 30 miles long so you can calculate there's three holes that will be emptied each year about 800 MI so it's really 240 ships and tunnel and that's roughly correct it's less it's about 200 and prep them but everybody and wants them because they are Stone ships so we're going to publish
And yeah the pseudo empire is at them now

yea yea cool that the speaker of the house thing is settled but can we talk about the fact that in order for it to be settled???
mccarthy basically gave the house to the far right? he conceeded. he said "yeah, okay, you [terrorists] vote for me and i'll allow the one vote rule".
which for those who aren't aware, means that instead of there needing to be a mass movement to kick out the speaker of the house and put a vote to it... one person can do that. one person with a personal grievance can hold the entire house hostage to vote on the matter.
which is bad enough, but it's also bad when considering the fact one of the first and most prominent issues the house will have to discuss is the national debt.
now, i'm no econ expert, but my understanding is this:
we have a lot of bills to pay!
if we pay them, we'll have to adjust the budget, but that's just how it goes.
if we default on them, aka we do not pay them... we go into a bottomless recession. like. y'all thought what we just went through was bad? that's child's play compared to what this will do.
but so you may be thinking "the answer's obvious! we pay and reallocate". yes! but you know who doesn't want to do that?
the same 20-something shitstains who just took the house hostage.
aka, the 20-something """representatives""" who can stop all decision-making, should mccarthy express intent to not, idk, put us into an inescapable pit of financial crisis (which is what the republicans love to say what the democrats just love to do, how funny is that-)
and that's just the tip of the iceberg!
what about when other important policies are brought to the table?
what about social security (which they've shown interest in dismantling all together, though biden has come forward to say he apparently 'wont let that happen').
and this is still just the tip, bc there were other vital concessions he made!!! but i'd need to research more before speaking on those as.
edit: and before anyone says it. i know. i know the rule hasn't been made solid yet! but you know it will be. the republican party loves ruining everyone's lives for the benefit of their careers!

VOTING MATTERS
WF THOUGHTS (1/5/23).
As I write this, we're entering Day #3 of the hostage situation in the House of Representatives. A group of 20 Republican hijackers is blocking Kevin McCarthy's attempt to become Speaker. Despite six attempts, McCarthy has been unable to secure the votes that he needs to win the Speakership.
Let's step back from the incessant vote counting and take a look at the big picture. What's the true underlying issue here? Why is this hijacking important?
The Speaker of the House is basically the air traffic controller. The planes are the "bills" that members submit as proposed laws. The Speaker decides if the bill can be scheduled for flight, leave the gate, taxi to the runway, reach "takeoff" position, climb to a comfortable altitude, avoid crashing, and land successfully. The Speaker controls everything.
The House needs a powerful air traffic controller. There are 435 Members. They're all free to submit an unlimited number of bills. Theoretically, every Member is free to submit amendments to any bill submitted by another Member. See the problem? Without a powerful air traffic controller, there would be thousands and thousands of planes flying through the House chamber at any given time. It would be chaos. It would be impossible to conduct regular business.
The House operates under a set of "rules" that the Members adopt at the start of every Congress. Traditionally, for good reason, the rules give the Speaker the extensive powers that I've described above. The hijackers want a weak air traffic controller. They want free reign to launch their planes and to fly circles in the House chamber. They don't like Kevin McCarthy, but the hijacking is really about weakening the power of the Speaker. As individual members, they want to push the Speaker around. They want a quick procedure to fire any Speaker that interferes with them. The central objective of the hijackers is a new set of House rules that will maximize the power of individual Members and minimize the power of the Speaker.
The problem for McCarthy, and for America, is that the slim Republican majority in the House (only 4 votes) gives the 20 hijackers enormous power to pursue their objectives. There are 222 Republicans in the House, and 218 of them need to vote as a unit to elect a Speaker. For McCarthy to prevail, he has to get 16 of the hijackers to change their position. Over the past week, to appease some hijackers, McCarthy has agreed to a number of rule changes that would substantially reduce the power of the Speaker. Those concessions continued last night, and they'll probably continue until the voting resumes today.
Let me be perfectly clear. This is not a "Red" issue or a "Blue" issue. It is an American issue. No matter what happens here, it's clear that these hijackers will hold this entire Congress at gunpoint for the next two years. They'll do it no matter who sits in the Speaker's chair. They'll do it no matter what the rules say. They've seen that they have the power to paralyze Congress. They're intoxicated by their power. They're not going to go away. We're in for a rough two years. Whoever it is, the next Speaker will be very, very weak. We all share the blame. Republican leaders allowed these hijackers to be Republican candidates. Republican voters voted for them. Democratic voters were not sufficiently mobilized to keep control of the House. That's the fault of the voters themselves and Democratic leaders.
Voting matters. We hear those two words every election cycle, and millions of Americans ignore the message. Now we're learning the lesson the hard way. Next time, please remember that voting matters. Everybody should vote. Nobody should vote for any candidate--Republican or Democrat--that shows a tendency towards hijacking. There's no place for hijackers in Congress.

The Legal Strategies Behind Biden’s Climate Change Bill
By Elizabeth Ugan, University of Chicago Class of 2024
August 4, 2022
Tumblr media
After many months of internal debate among senators, President Biden’s plan to address climate change may have finally reached the point where it can progress following West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin’s support of the Inflation Reduction Act on July 28.[i] His refusal to back the initial, more ambitious Build Back Better plan at the end of 2021 led many Democrats to believe that Manchin’s goals in the Senate consisted of blocking liberal agendas in favor of his own personal interests, but with his sudden change of mind, Manchin could potentially be the deciding vote to pass Biden’s climate plan through the Senate by the end of the first week of August.[ii]
Given its arduous progress through the Senate and its different variations, the climate change bill has had to undergo some of the most tactical legal and political strategies available in order to reach its current standing. Beginning with the drafting of the Inflation Reduction Act, the track that the bill has followed and the various tactics used to gain votes and head off attempts to derail the bill have taken many forms at each stage of the process and can be expected to continue as long as the bill is still being considered. A closer look at these procedures can illuminate more about the support and opposition to the climate change bill, the sometimes opaque distributions of political power, and the face of modern law making.
Navigating     the Senate
Despite the Democrat majority in the House and presidency, the Senate remains precariously balanced between 50 Republican senators and 48 Democrats with two Independents whose votes align with the Democrats.[iii] This divide has placed most of the pressure for inventive law making on senators who wish to see their party’s agendas take precedence. The Inflation Reduction Act addresses many of the priorities of the Biden presidency, including Affordable Care Act extensions, government involvement in drug pricing, and revised taxation alongside its climate initiatives, and has therefore been a primary concern of the Democrats in both its forms.[iv] Its redrafting aimed to preserve these goals while securing more of the Democrats’ support in the Senate, specifically Joe Manchin’s vote.
With the time-sensitive nature of the act and its importance to Biden’s platform, one potential tactic that President Biden had threatened to use to advance it was the declaration of a national climate emergency.[v] This would have allowed him to use executive power to prioritize certain aspects of the act’s provisions and reroute resources to its cause in addition to the symbolic weight it would hold. However, a national emergency would not necessarily have had the critical influence needed to pass the act. Because of Manchin’s recent declaration of support, the declaration of a state of emergency is no longer necessary.
2. Manchin’s     surprising power
The trials Biden’s climate change policy has faced have revealed one of the anomalies of polarized politics: a shocking amount of power has coalesced onto one unexpected figure. Many have been left wondering how Senator Joe Manchin gained his position as the deciding vote in more than one crucial piece of legislation. West Virginia has not typically held the sort of sway Manchin now wields, but neither has it typically had a Democrat representative. Because of his position as governor, Manchin had a reputation for conservative politics long before he filled the seat of the deceased Democrat representative in 2010.[vi] Because the Senate is currently evenly split, Manchin’s status as a conservative Democrat jeopardizes the entire Democratic vote if he chooses not to endorse their much more liberal agenda.[vii] His position allows him to hold much of their legislation hostage and forces Democrats to compromise in his favor in order to secure his much-needed vote. Negotiating Manchin’s demands has become a vital part of overcoming the frozen politics of the Senate to obtain a viable climate change bill.
 3. What happens     next?
The Inflation Reduction Act represents a large portion of Biden’s ambitions and has so far been underpinned by a series of executive orders regarding federal sustainability until it can be passed through Congress. Its actual passing depends on the result of the looming Senate vote set to take place before the August recess. For this, Democrats intend to use a tactic they have had to rely on for the majority of their major legislative projects while the Senate has been so equally divided. The process of budget reconciliation allows for a bare majority to pass the act, requiring that all 50 Democrat-leaning senators cast their vote in favor of the act. The tie-breaking vote would then be cast by Vice President Harris.[viii]
Should the act be passed in time, the House will have to reconvene in August to vote and rely on a slim Democrat majority to pass an unchanged version of the bill.[ix] Currently, the deadline for the Senate vote on the Inflation Reduction Act is August 7, and the necessary unity of the Democrats remains fragile.

Dr. Mrs. The Monarch is voiced by Doc Hammer, though she was voiced by Jackson Publick in her first appearance, "The Terrible Secret of Turtle Bay", albeit as a cameo.
Background
As a young woman, Sheila attended State University and was a student of Professor Fantomas. She has a doctorate in an unnamed field, and appears proficient in mechanics and general sciences, as evidenced by her having built the Monarch's first pair of functional wings, his ill-conceived "sunshine gun", and several tracking devices used for her own purposes.
Sheila later became the super-villain known as Lady Au Pair before serving as the second-in-command to many different super-villains over the years under several names. She soon went on to work for Phantom Limb under the name Queen Etherea, at which point she first met the Monarch. After falling in love with the Monarch, she abandoned working for Phantom Limb and went on to serve as the Monarch's second-in-command, Dr. Girlfriend.
Dr. Mrs. The Monarch with her husband, the MonarchAt the start of the series, Dr. Girlfriend’s relationship with the Monarch had begun to suffer due to his vendetta against the Venture family. In hopes of trying to bridge the gap between the two sides, she convinces the Monarch to reach out to Hank and Dean Venture as a friend when Monarch confides that Dr. Venture emotionally neglects his children. Despite her efforts, the Monarch continues his vendetta against the Ventures throughout the first season, until their breakup in "The Trial of the Monarch".
In season 2, Doctor Girlfriend had gone back to working with her former lover Phantom Limb, going by Queen Etherea again. However, Phantom Limb's pompousness grated on her and she reunited with The Monarch, whom she married in "Showdown At Cremation Creek".
In the Season 3, she and her husband move into Phantom Limb's former home in the local villain community of Malice.
In the Season 4, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch continues to aid her husband. During this time she forms a friendship with Henchman 21 which leads to a kiss between them in "Assisted Suicide". It turns out in "Operation P.R.O.M." that the kiss meant nothing to her, which was a contributing factor to 21 officially breaking away from them.
In the season 5 finale, she, her husband and their sole henchman 21 (who returned to their ranks) move into the Monarch's old family home in New Jersey because Sergeant Hatred accidentally destroyed the Cocoon and their house in Malice. She is later offered a position as a member of The Council of 13, which she accepts. In "All This and Gargantua-2", The Sovereign arranges the deaths of most of the council when they refuse to participate in his plans to attack the space station Gargantua 2. She is one of the few survivors of this attack, and confronts the Sovereign in his home and asks him not to destroy Gargantua-2 because her husband is there. The Sovereign begins a self-destruct sequence at his lair, where Dr. Mrs. The Monarch is restrained and unable to free herself, but Watch and Ward arrive in time to launch the built-in escape pod (always installed right after a self-destruction button), and they escape to Meteor Majeure (saving The Monarch and 21 on the way) where Dr. Henry Killinger announces his plans to create a new council.
During Season 6, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch becomes a part of the new The Council of 13, which plans to reshape The Guild of Calamitous Intent which had suffered as a result of the previous leader's actions. During this time, she meets the villain Wide Wale, to whom she offers a position on the council and who demands that The Guild give all arching rights to Dr. Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture to him. Later on, she and the council are forced to deal with a vigilante who takes on the identity of the famous superhero (who may have been a bad guy) The Blue Morpho, who was, unbeknownst to her, her father-in-law). She and The Council later (incorrectly) believe that the new Blue Morpho is secretly Dr. Venture when in fact he is really The Monarch.
Later on, when a villain named The Wandering Spider arching Venture goes missing she and the other council members spot Dr. Venture dressed up like the Blue Morpho, which confirms their suspicions. At Wide Wale's urging, she is given a sniper rifle to shoot Venture to avenge their fallen comrades. At first, she hesitates, but finally takes the shot. However, because the Blue Morpho's jacket has a bulletproof lining, Venture survives. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch checks her phone and finds two messages: one from Wandering Spider telling her that The Blue Morpho is holding him hostage and the other from her husband torturing his new arch, Dr. Heinie, both of which occurred while they were observing (and shooting) Dr. Venture. When it seems clear that Venture was not The Blue Morpho, she reprimands the Council for pushing her to perform a pointless act of violence.
Dr. Mrs. The Monarch and her colleagues then form a truce with the OSI, and set up a trap for The Blue Morpho in which some of the OSI and villains disguise themselves as the Ventures to fight against Dr. Venture's current nemesis Red Death. When The Blue Morpho doesn't show up, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch leaves. Furious that the vigilante didn't appear, she resolves to track down and kill the man herself.
Her vow to track down and slay the Blue Morpho ultimately comes to naught, for Henchman 21 eventually divulges to her that the Monarch is the true killer and was being held by Wide Wale before asking for her help. She enlists Red Death's help (in return for a promise of a Guild Council seat without killing her husband) to break into Dummy Corp and find the location of Douglas Ong, aka Dr, Dugong, Wide Wale's brother. Dr. Dugong, was hiding under OSI protection because his brother Wide Wale was a supervillain. Dugong is reunited with Wale, who believed his brother dead at the Monarch's hands, and the Monarch escapes murder. Furthermore, the original Blue Morpho, Vendata, resurfaces and is slain in an entirely unrelated incident. Following his death, the original Blue Morpho is blamed for all the Guild villain murders, and the Monarch is freed of any suspicion. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch learns that the original Blue Morpho's was the Monarch's father.
In "The Inamorata Consequence", Dr. Mrs. The Monarch and some other Guild representatives meet with the OSI at the Treaty of Tolerance Summit II to renew the agreement on organized aggression. During the negotiations, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch maintains a somewhat more civil disposition than most of the Guild or OSI emissaries there, but when negotiations break down into squabbling she too is sucked in. It is Dr. Venture of all people who shames both sides into coming back to the table and signing the new treaty. After the summit ends, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch learns of Guild Stranger S-464's secret tryst with Agent Kimberly McManus. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch correctly recognizes Fictel's comment of S-464 having "peepee" on his belt as in not urine but "P.P.", as in the marks of the Peril Partnership. S-464 was now uncovered as a mole.
In The Bellicose Proxy, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch, with Watch and Ward's assistance, interrogates S-464 and gains his assistance as a double agent in return for helping him regain the love of McManus. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch engineers their meeting by secretly providing a level 6 ray gun to a level 1 arching, which would engender both the Guild and the OSI to intercede. When S-464 and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch encounter McManus, the latter shows only disdain and contempt for them. She expresses that she hates S-464 for his association with the Peril Partnership, calling them scum. When Dr. Mrs. The Monarch attempts to intercede, McManus's disrespect causes Dr. Mrs. The Monarch to fly off the handle even in the face of a peaceful resolution. the Monarch and Henchman 21, who had been mentoring Augustus St. Cloud during the arching encounter, intercede and break up the fight. They apologize to both McManus and S-464 before leaving them to settle their differences. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch thanks her husband for saving her life, but the Monarch says he only saved her career as she would have taken down McManus.
In "The Terminus Mandate", the conflict with the Peril Partnership seems to be coming to a head, but Dr. Mrs. The Monarch and Red Death meet with Blind Rage to discuss a peace agreement. Blind Rage loutishly demands that kickbacks formerly paid by Wide Wale be resumed, but Dr. Mrs. The Monarch only promises she will speak about it with the Guild. The Guild Council votes and ultimately agrees (though Red Death would secretly later scuttle the agreement by attacking Blind Rage and tying him to railroad tracks. After the vote to pay off the Partnership is concluded, the task of what to do about the Council's inability to fully restore itself is brought up. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch cites the Guild Charter which allows the Council to be reformed as the Guild's governing body. However, this development would require the Council members to retire from active supervillainy and become full-time Council members. Dr. Mrs. The Monarch breaks the news to the Monarch, and he reacts tempestuously before leaving for the Monarch Cave in a huff. Henchman 21 attempts to console her by saying that the Monarch isn't the type to do anything rash, but the effort is largely unhelpful.
Before their retirement, each Councilperson is given a final arching assignment to their worst foe, and Dr. Mrs. The Monarch is set up with her old nemesis Novia. For this encounter with her rival, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch assumes her old guise of Lady Au Pair and enlists the help of 21, whom dons a Moppet costume. Despite Sheila's hesitation upon sight of Novia, 21 approaches Novia, and the encounter commences. However, it is a heartfelt and emotional one as Novia and Lady Au Pair embrace. On the way home from the encounter, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch expresses doubts to 21 about the future of her partnership with the Monarch. At 21's behest, she cuts off his ponytail as a symbol of the change he's undergone in the past year. In addition, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch presents 21 with Novia's wallet, commenting that their encounter was an arching.
When the Guild Council reconvenes, most of the present members (Wide Wale a notable exception) accept supervillainy retirement to retain their seats. But when the question is posed to Dr. Mrs. The Monarch, she hesitates. "The Terminus Mandate" ends before she gives an answer.
Later episodes seem to confirm her decision to retain her Council seat at the cost of her supervillain career. In "the Forecast Manufacturer", she is seen in Guild uniform with Dr. Z giving the Monarch and Henchman 21 orders to infiltrate the headquarters of the Creep and ultimately assassinate him. In "The Saphrax Protocol", Dr. Mrs. The Monarch participates as one of the Guild Council in the Monarch's Tenning ceremony. The Monarch at one point comments the Guild has taken away the ability to work with his wife in villainy, although they seem to still be close, judging by how Dr. Mrs. The Monarch comments how proud she is of him, calling him "sweetie".

Okay, y'all. Time to do this one more time. Let the fact that there are so many of these posts right now reinforce the point. Many of you already know this, and I see and love you, but for anyone still ~undecided about their choice, should they be an American citizen of voting age on November 3, 2020:
Time to not be. It was time a long, long while ago, but I am going to have to say it again.
Primary season is over. The endless fine-tooth combing of candidates' policies and positions is over. We are all deeply well aware that the candidates on the Democratic ticket, being human beings and establishment politicians, are flawed. "BUT WHAT ABOUT THIS POSITION FROM 19/ 20-WHENEVER AS JUSTIFICATION FOR WHY IT'S TERRIBLE TO VOTE FOR -- "
No. Stop. Just stop. Stop threatening to hold the rest of us hostage, in the middle of a pandemic, the Great Depression, and racial inequality and protests on a scale not seen from the 1960s, because you did not get Barbie Dream Candidate. That is the behavior of terrorists and toddlers. If your supposedly enlightened morally pure ideology does not involve any action to mitigate the harm that is directly in front of you, it isn't worth a shit as an ideology actually devoted to helping people. If your approach to politics is to shout about how Pure your ideas are on twitter and tear down anyone working within a system of flawed choices to do the good that they can: you're not helping, and frankly, your constant threats to withhold your suffrage as a punishment to us aren't convincing the rest of us that we really need to listen to you or that you have anyone's best interests at heart. The Online Left TM is as much a vacuous, self-reinforcing noise chamber as the Online Right TM, and can sometimes tend to be even more dangerous.
I was saying this in 2016. A lot of us were saying this in 2016. I am just about to turn 32 years old and have been voting in federal elections for almost 15 years. For what it's worth.
This is not an ordinary election. This is not a contest between two flawed candidates who respect the system and want to work to enact their policies in the ordinary way. One is a flawed 90s era Democrat who nonetheless has already been pushed CONSIDERABLY left in his policies and platforms since the end of the primaries (and his existing platform would already make him the most left president elected, even more than Obama). The other is a fascist dictator who has openly spoken about refusing to accept the election results, his desire to abolish term limits and serve for life, and complete the pillaging of any remaining fragile American public funds for him and his cult of cronies. He does not respect the system. He does not want to do anything for anyone that is not himself. 160,000 and counting needless deaths of American citizens have already happened. Will keep happening.
This is the last time Trump has to face voters. This is the last chance the country has to repudiate his entire poisonous ideology and its marching Nazi minions. IF he steps aside, which is already far from guaranteed, he can ride off into the sunset as a vindicated two term president and probably be rehabilitated like George W. Bush was within a few years of leaving office. American political memory is very short. It will happen. Again, if he even leaves.
RBG is 87 and has cancer again. She will NOT survive another four years. Stephen Breyer is 81. Their seats could both come up in the next four years. The Supreme Court could be a right wing rubber stamp for whatever time we all have left before climate change and coronavirus kill us all.
"But if people just thought for themselves and did their homework and didn't vote the party line like sheep, we could support a third party/write in -- " Stop. Just stop. Attend a ninth grade civics class and learn about how politics work in America. Yes, the two-party system sucks. Yes, the Electoral College is a hot steaming pile of absolute bullshit. Magical unicorn fairy dust fantasies WILL NOT change that.
Do not vote for Kanye (who has pretty much openly admitted he is trying to play spoiler to Biden on behalf of his buddy Trump). Do not vote for godforsaken fucking Gary Johnson or Jill Stein who appear on ballots just to give sanctimonious leftists the illusion of virtue-signaling. If you want any chance of fixing the mess that 2020 has left America and the world in, you need to vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. The end.
Biden is a flawed old man who was our last choice, sure. He is also a distinguished public servant who has already been in the White House for eight years under Obama and thus we KNOW what to expect. He is an empathetic man who connects with people's personal tragedy and picked as his running mate a younger Black/biracial woman who directly confronted and called him out on past behavior. While the pundit class was simpering and whining about how it was Disrespectful and how could he consider her, Biden did so, and that speaks well to me of the fact that he is willing to learn, to take criticism, and not just accept it from a former Black female rival, but make her his second in command and the potential first female president of the United States.
Can you EVER picture Trump doing that? Not in eight thousand million years.
As for Kamala, we are all aware of her previous checkered history as a prosecutor (and even then, she did plenty of good things as well!). Since joining the Senate, however, she has consistently become one of its most progressive members. She is the co-sponsor of an economic aid package designed to give every American $2,000/month, backdated to March (the start of the coronavirus pandemic) and continuing at least a few months after its end. A Biden-Harris White House could make that happen. Especially if they are put into office with a Democratic House and Senate (for the love of God, Kentucky, kill Mitch McConnell with fire). That is just one example.
Harris's nomination is obviously historic. And Biden didn't choose another Biden (or another Tim Kaine, the blandest white man imaginable). He chose another Obama: a younger rising star of an immigrant background, a person of color, a former lawyer and someone who represents the diversity of the country that the white supremacists and the Cheeto in Chief have tried to paint as its worst and most degenerate evil.
A vote for Biden and Harris means getting rid not just of Trump, but Mike Pence, Vladimir Putin, Jared Kushner, Betsy Devos, the Trump crony destroying the Postal Service, the rampant coronavirus misinformation and bullshit, the destruction of Social Security and Medicare, the spread of Nazi propaganda from the President's twitter account, the likely two Supreme Court picks that would be as bad as Brett Kavanaugh or worse... on and on. Biden and Harris would be elected by progressive voters and thus answerable to them in 2022 midterms and 2024 general. They can both be, and already have been, pushed further left. They are reasonable and competent adults who have demonstrated experience and compassion. I KNOW about their flaws and past actions I don't agree with. But I'm frankly done with any more counterproductive straw man bitching about This One Bad Thing They Did and how it makes it a terribad awful choice to vote for them. Open your eyes. Look at the alternative. LOOK AT WHAT HAS ALREADY HAPPENED AND THE FACT THAT THIS IS NOT EVEN AS BAD AS IT COULD STILL GET.
Check your registration or register at vote.gov.
DO NOT LOOK AT POLLS AND DECIDE "EH BIDEN IS CLEARLY GOING TO WIN, I DON'T NEED TO VOTE." THAT IS HOW WE LOST LAST TIME.
Unseating incumbents is HARD. It is even harder when the other side has openly laid out their plan to cheat in great detail, and there is nothing really stopping them from doing it. The only thing, in fact, is massive, unfalsifiable results on an undeniable scale.
So:
Vote.
Vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Thanks a lot.

After a new session begins, the first order of business for the House of Representatives is to pick a Speaker. For a century this has been a mere formality, with the party in power having enough organization and respect for the country to move swiftly on to other matters. But on Tuesday the Republican party broke this streak of basic competence, failing in three separate ballots to come up with the votes to install Kevin McCarthy, the presumed frontrunner, as Speaker.
With the group of hard-right irreconcilables opposing McCarthy getting larger rather than smaller as the day went on, it quickly became clear that the wannabe Speaker had no plan for breaking the deadlock. If he hoped that his opponents would eventually tire of symbolism and bow down to practical reality, he was mistaken – for a large group of Republican lawmakers, particularly those in the far-right Freedom Caucus, symbolism is the entire purpose of holding office. They came to Washington not to construct but to destruct, and taking down McCarthy is just the beginning.
The spectacle of a party unable to even decide who should lead it is illuminating to voters, and Democrats should certainly celebrate these Republican misfortunes. It was the Democrats’ surprisingly strong performance in the fall’s midterms which put Republicans in this position to begin with. Having only a thin majority in the House means that McCarthy can easily be held hostage by his party’s most far-right members – not a good look for a party already suffering from the perception that it is extreme and out of touch.
But Republican irresponsibility doesn’t just endanger the party’s own electoral prospects – it also endangers the country. America needs a functioning House of Representatives with a responsible Speaker in order to discharge basic functions like funding the government and increasing the debt limit. The stakes are huge, and gridlock is not an option. The last shutdown cost the economy $11bn, and a failure to increase the debt limit could be even worse, leading to the US defaulting on its debt and shattering the global economy.
Yet it’s precisely these basic functions that Republicans want to either sabotage or weaponize, a process which could ultimately lead to the same result. Even the “moderate” Republican position represented by McCarthy is to refuse to raise the debt limit without spending cuts, and in any negotiation over the issue he would quickly become hostage to the Freedom Caucus. Some of its members have pledged to oppose any debt ceiling increase at all, while others demand unpopular cuts to programs like social security and Medicare in return. A government funding vote would come with similar demands. In both cases, the result is likely to be paralysis as the party struggles to achieve unity.
Another hazardous moment will be passage of the Farm Bill, which is due to be renegotiated in 2023. This bill, passed every five years, provides both subsidies to farmers and welfare programs for hungry families, and Republicans are looking to enact deep cuts in the latter. Nearly 40 million Americans use food stamps every year, and Republicans want to dramatically cut that number by scaling back the program or imposing work requirements. Once again, the result will be a game of legislative chicken.
These games will not end well for the country. In all of these cases there is a huge risk that a party that can’t even agree on who should be speaker will struggle to pass anything at all. The Republican majority is so thin, and their extremist members so nihilistic, that they are likely to prove incapable of fulfilling the country’s most basic needs. Whoever eventually becomes Speaker will be on borrowed time, subject to being booted from office unless they go along with the Freedom Caucus’s demands. Because more moderate Republicans are unlikely to agree to what the right wants, the result will be paralysis – and economic chaos.
In lieu of governing, House Republicans will have other priorities – namely pursuing a series of ludicrous investigations into Hunter Biden, the treatment of insurrectionists after the January 6 riot, and “the weaponization of the federal government”, a catch-all phrase for what the right alleges is the politicization of the Justice Department and FBI. McCarthy has already agreed to give committee spots back to Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar, both of whom were previously stripped of their assignments for engaging in violent rhetoric.
All of this goes to show that the Republican party’s problems with extremism extend far beyond the person of Donald Trump. Even if Trump were to step down from politics tomorrow, House Republicans would still spend the next two years mired in intractable ideological battles and shrill partisan investigations, with the most hardline and ludicrous members soaking up the media spotlight.
The Republican party will head into 2024 with its reputation for extremism and incompetence magnified. Americans can only hope that it doesn’t do too much damage to the country in the meantime.

That vile demon...
Tumblr media
Oh, just wait. It gets even better.
Tumblr media
We’ve actually managed to draw in some attention from the goddamn Diet at this point.
*A door opens up*
Tumblr media
Yeah, tell me about it.
Tumblr media
Sorry, I just got back. Did you guys hear what’s happened in Shinjuku?
Tumblr media
I have the impression it is not going to be pleasant.
Tumblr media
There was a member of the House of Representatives there, speaking out against us.
Tumblr media
It was that Fujimori guy, right?
Tumblr media
Yeah. He’s running for Constituency over the Tokyo 1st District.
Tumblr media
He’s also campaigning against Kasugano. He was out there in Shinjuku, rambling about how you guys are a threat to the nation’s security. You know, never mind the cult leader holding all those people hostage. Look.
*She shows them all a photo of a middle-aged man with silver hair and thick glasses standing at a podium in front of a crowd, raising a finger toward the sky in the middle of a passionate speech*
Tumblr media
Seems like whoever’s dead-set on turning the public against you guys is doing a great job...
Tumblr media
...
Tumblr media
...
Tumblr media
...
Tumblr media
...
Tumblr media
We can’t give up.
Tumblr media
Doesn’t matter if the whole world is against us, right? We’ve got a hundred people on that island who need help, and countless more all over this country and the whole world.
Tumblr media
Not like I ever gave a damn what the public thinks of me anyway.
Tumblr media
Yes. The public is unaware of what is coming, and we cannot allow this sitaution to blind us. We cannot allow a tragedy to befall the people on that island or the entire world.
Tumblr media
We should continue working and planning, but keep our heads low for now. Do not arouse any unnecessary suspicion.

News from 10/7 to 10/8:
The New England Journal of Medicine has condemned Trump’s COVID response.
The FBI has unsealed details of an alleged plot by militia members to kidnap Michigan Gov. Whitmer. The conspirators, who called themselves the Wolverine Watchmen, stalked her vacation home, planned to buy explosives to blow up a bridge to her home, and planned to hold her hostage, if not outright kill her, and hold her on trial for treason. Whitmer spoke about the planned attack, calling out Trump for "fomenting anger, and giving comfort to those who spread fear, hatred, and division." She also tied Trump’s “stand back and stand by” comment to the actions of the terrorists. Here are some of their photos.
GOP Chairwoman Ronna Mcdaniel, who caught COVID at the White House, says she doesn't think there were any problems with the White House's coronavirus protocols.
Health officials scrambling to produce Trump's ‘last-minute’ drug cards by Election Day. Trump is hoping to put his name on each of the $200 cards to help his reelection campaign. These cards are being paid for through Medicare's trust fund after pharmaceutical companies refused to foot the bill. Critics are calling it a “taxpayer funded bribe.”
Former top RNC & Trump inaugural fundraiser Elliott Broidy charged with conspiring to serve as an unregistered foreign agent on behalf of the fugitive Malaysian financier JHO LOW & others. (translation: illegal foreign lobbying). He was charged for his role in a scheme to "lobby the Justice Department and Trump administration on behalf of undisclosed foreign entities." Document here.
Pelosi and Rep. Raskin plan to introduce legislation tomorrow to establish a commission under the 25th Amendment charged with evaluating the president's mental/physical capacity. The plan is based off a bill of Raskin’s which created congressional body (which is actually contemplated in the 25th amendment itself) made up of doctors, psychiatrists and former executive branch officials to make judgments if a president's health is failing. The bill itself is here.
The Trump Trump administration filed an emergency application to halt census count at the Supreme Court.
Another unnamed member of the White House press corps tested positive for COVID.
Filmmakers created a secretly-filmed documentary about Trump’s failure to respond to the pandemic over 5 months. Here is the trailer. It will be available at select drive in theaters on Friday 10/9, video-on-demand starting Tuesday 10/13, and then Hulu starting Oct. 20
Trump’s doctor says he can safely return to public engagement after Saturday but has not taken questions. Both Trump’s doctors and his staff will not divulge when his last negative test was taken, not even to the House of Representatives.
Trump put potential blame for his COVID on Gold Star family members who were too close to him when telling stories of their loved ones who died in the line of duty. This doesn’t make sense according to Trump’s (assumed) COVID timeline.
Mark Meadows, White House chief of staff, defied COVID restrictions to throw a wedding for his daughter back in May. Meadows is not (currently) a part of the White House COVID cluster.
The NYT published an article showing members of the White House not following COVID regulations. But we already knew this, really.
Trump posted a bunch of videos where he looks like a crazed used car salesmen that I’m not linking here because you shouldn’t hate watch stuff. His circular speech is getting worse.
The second presidential debate is being pushed back to October 22 because the Trump has COVID, a deadly communicable disease.
Facebook took down a “coordinated inauthentic behavior campaign” that was being run by a U.S. marketing firm working on behalf of pro-Trump student organization Turning Point USA. By that they mean a sock puppet accounts spreading misinformation by commenting on news articles. The scope was 200 FB accounts, 55 pages, and 76 Instagrams.
The US trade deficit hit a 14 year high.
A Federal judge is seeking the White House’s position on declassifying the entire Muller Report (we’ve only gotten either parts or redactions) per Trump’s recent tweet demanding the entire report be released. Buzzfeed is currently seeking the report in its entirety.

Midnight Motorist - An Essay
I promised this awhile ago, but my thoughts on Midnight Motorist... This mini-game has literally kept me awake for hours on two separate occasions trying to figure it out, lol! So, reading the Updated Freddy Files *suggests, not confirms* that Toy Chica: The High School Years may be how William lured each child. I made notes on this, of course.
Although I listed who was used as a stand in for each, it has no bearing on the actual child killed.
The first, represented by Foxy, is already dead. I assumed this was a stand in for Norman/CC.
Second, represented by Freddy, was lured away with promises to help with homework.
Third, represented by Wolf. Run over their dog. We all know this is referring to Susie/Chica.
Fourth, represented by Toy Bonnie. It was suggested that their house be set on fire and then Chica uses her body to put out the flames. Best I could settle for this one was perhaps pulling a fire alarm at the restaraunt, or something similar.
Fifth, Funtime Foxy. Live hostages. Presumably luring a child away with promises that their friend / missing friend is in the back room.
Sixth, the Puppet. This one is the most interesting and why I'm including it here. Chica says "I'll come over to their house later, maybe break through a window, or set the house on fire and smoke them out [IIRC, I am paraphrasing a little]" The window, in my honest opinion, has to refer to Midnight Motorist. Scott has made a point of adding things in a following game to clarify the game before (starting at least since Sister Location). With the other one referencing Susie and Fruity Maze, I think this theory holds up, although it doesn't really help solve Midnight Motorist I think it's very important to note. (William has as much of an obsession with fire as Henry, huh?)
Lastly, there is Pigpatch. It's implied William would have knocked out a child and told them he rescued them after being "kidnapped". I really like this one.
The number of victims adds up to the number of children: BV, Freddy, Foxy, Bonnie, Chica, Golden Freddy, and Puppet.
Now that that's out of the way, I feel this heavily implies the footprints outside the window in MM are William's. The feet match the Glitchtrap suit, which most of us assume is a prototype for Spring Bonnie. Not only that, but obviously the springlock suits wouldn't work in the rain. Second, if you take some logic to it and see Charlotte as the first victim (no suit, no hiding the body, developing MO) then this killing would be the start of his MO--kind of an "in-between" point where he's evolving. Now, as to who the people in the house are...
In my fic, I kept the general idea that it was William as mustard man (thank you MatPat, this is my fav name for our mysterious fellow). Mostly because despite the evidence listed there is still a ton of evidence supporting it:
Later That Night - this is the name of the game file for MM.
Rain - Due to the in-game rain and this title its heavily implied to be just after Charlotte's death.
Grey Text - Michael is the only one to have the grey text and has similarities to Chair Person. (Note: I think Matpat did point out the color is slightly different, but it's still grey.)
Purple Car - William is the only one seen with a Purple Car back in one of the mini-games (FNAF 2, IIRC). To further support this, the car is also seen as an easter egg in the Dreadbear DLC of Help Wanted (with purple headlights). This is probably the most damning evidence that Mustard Man is William, in my opinion... but then how do the footprints make sense?
In my fic, I explained it away as footprints from the evening before (it was the best I could muster at the time) but this is super weak :V So this kind of brings us to alternative theories. If it is William, the supporting evidence is... good evidence of that. So, the other options are:
A Child Victim's Family - This is my second favorite theory because I think it could possibly work for, say, TOYSNHK [The One You Should Not Have Killed, hereby pronounced Toy-Shnuck] (who I made Cassidy). The problem with this is the child's gender is referred to as male. And there's a huge debate on Cassidy being female in game lore and TOYSNHK/GF being male. It IS a gender neutral name and wouldn't be the first time Scott changed a gender (see: Puppet), BUT it's pretty weak since all the info we have on TOYSNHK is recent. It could be another child that isn't Susie, though, but why show some random child as opposed to an important one? PizzaSim's games all revolve around specifics like Puppet (the first to die overall) and Susie (the first to die of the main five).
Henry is Mustard Man - This is the theory my wife likes. I can sort of see it and I even considered it at one point, but there isn't much evidence to go on. Why is the car purple is the biggest wrench for me. I also have problems with Mustard Man's attitude ("This is MY house", "He'll be sorry") Even if Henry was torn up about Charlotte, I can't see him treating his kids this way. This would also heavily imply the missing window kid to be Sammy, which hasn't been referenced in the game lore at all. He was barely mentioned in the novel trilogy, even. This also makes Gray Text either Aunt Jen or Henry's wife. There's just not enough to support this, in my opinion.
UPDATE 5/28/21 - Please see this post analyzing Fazbear Fright’s story “What We Found” for a more detailed look at what I’m about to explain that supports the Henry theory: Also from the books, CC / Norman is now referred to as Evan.
For this to work, we must assume Henry is an alcoholic after Charlotte’s death. I think the “later that night” evidence becomes somewhat irrelevant, because if this was the night of Charlotte’s death it wouldn’t really make sense. Part of me wondered if it took place after FNAF 2′s Springtrap cutscene, but the footprints don’t match. It has to be Spring Bonnie or Glitchtrap. Also, Evan and Elizabeth have also died by this point because neither are seen in the mini-game in this theory. You also must assume, based on the story evidence, that Henry married / stayed with Mrs. Afton after William either “died” or they divorced--they had to have been together for an x amount of time as for Mrs. Afton to be living with Henry but also the fact that Mrs. Afton kept Michael and the purple car. Henry using William’s car wouldn’t be unheard of if Mrs. Afton kept the car and the house, I just don’t feel Henry would use it unless he had been using the vehicle awhile. This also explains the Bonnie-esque footprints outside since William would want to come get / visit his kid he’s [most likely] no longer allowed to see. He may even be taking Michael back to the FNAF 4 house (implying that the house we see in MM is Henry’s). Speaking of, if we assume William’s intentions are [likely] bad, he’s probably taking Michael back to experiment with the Funtime-Nightmares, if you believe this theory. I think this theory is probably true considering the random grave (which, in this context has no answer except a Twisted animatronic aka a Nightmare) AND because the blueprints in Sister Location SHOW the Nightmares on the display during Funtime Freddy’s repair, implying they are real and not imagined. This is also assumed to be punishment for Michael killing Evan. I think Michael goes WITH William because of his tumultuous relationship with a now mentally ill and drunkard Henry. Henry probably knows that William killed Charlotte and a common theme in some works is a parent seeing their child (or a murderer) in a child aka Michael reminds Henry of William, so he neglects him (which in itself wouldn’t be out of place for Henry, since he already wasn’t a very attentive parent).
The main issue with this theory is that it sort of assumes that CC was Michael and not Evan. I don’t think that’s the case, though.
While we're on this version, I also want to discuss evidence for the MM driver being drunk. Not only are you driving on the opposite side of traffic, the Files book explicitly states "crashing" into the secret road for the mini-game. Not that Henry couldn't be drunk, especially if he just found Charlotte dead, but... for me personally it seems a stretch. And I already mentioned the car.
William's Father - This is an interesting idea, but the foot prints kind of rule it out. At least there's an explanation for the car, though, right? Still, it doesn't explain the foot prints unless you assume maybe his father was more alike Afton than we thought. But then why bother showing us background on our killer so late with no pay off? I easily dismiss this theory.
A new theory, at least one I haven't seen posed yet:
Vanny - That's right. Vanny. What if she survived/lived? Some leaks even suggest she may be related to the Aftons. Mustard Man's color is similar to Princess Quest's heroine. It explains the footprints, but doesn't explain the car. This would make for a nice foreshadowing of Vanny, IMO, but it’s weak at best.
You know when Matpat discusses "that one puzzle peice that we're missing"? That's this entire mess of a mini-game. Don't get me wrong, the music is bawlin and it's fun to talk about, otherwise I wouldn't write about it, but it is undoubtedly FRUSTRATING.
What are your opinions?
I also wanted to point out some other interesting things from the Files book I haven't seen discussed: There is confirmation of two sets of gold suits. Not only is there the FNAF 2 phone call, but the text specifies between Spring Bonnie/Springtrap and Fredbear/Golden Freddy. IE: FNAF 4 suit is Springtrap but the one from Stage 01 is Spring Bonnie. This could be oversight, but... I don't think it is. I'm sure most of the fandom does ASSUME this anyway, but I felt it was worth noting. (In my fic, they are the same suit, but the second sets are upgraded after the original failures).
The poster behind Scraptrap. Nothing really interesting here, but there is an image of a building with two gargoyle (lion?) statues behind him. Presumably this would be a police station or Fazbear Fright. I just thought it was cool since I never noticed this in the image. My initial thought was this might be a reference to the hospital in Man in 1280, but that’s a stretch.
Jr's. This is the random building in Midnight Motorist in which Green Man says "gtfo" to our Mustard Man. I should mention I feel that is good evidence to it being William or Henry, depending what the building is. We can 100% say it is NOT a bar (in my fic, that's what I used, even though it doesn't make sense. I don't see a drunk person driving to a second bar so close to their home when they could have gone there initially, BUT then I am a home-drinker when I do drink, so I don't know the night life). The Files refer to it as simply "a restaraunt". Whether this IS a FNAF location (also referred to as restaraunts) or just some random eatery, it's something to contemplate. I am in the camp that it isn't FNAF 2, at least.
I have some other things from Fazbear Frights' Blackbird I wanna discuss, too, but I'll wait until the book is out to help you all avoid spoilers.
Now, this is all just my thoughts on it. Please don't take anything too seriously (as Scott says don't rack your brain on this, it's not worth it). I just think these are some points that haven't been discussed before.
Also, if you wanna read my theory on why Scraptrap is partly the Golden Freddy suit, I have that theory here.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk? <-- is that a dated reference? Probably.
