One or both may have been his daughters. What are you up to this #WorkspaceWednesday ? . I'm currently editing my final paper for my PhD thesis (🥳) but in my breaks I'm also setting up yet another fun project - an archaeology book club! . I recently joined the @scientistswhoread community book club and an really enjoying it, so I asked a week or two ago on all my social media platforms whether anyone knew of an archaeology-based community book club but apparently nobody has, although several of you have expressed interest in joining one should it ever exist. So, as is the case with all of my projects, because it doesn't exist yet, I've decided to make one myself! The idea is to create an online community of people who are interested in the past but also share a love of books and reading. . These beautiful marble statues can be found at the Carthage National Museum. This museum has so many corners and hidden areas that it seems mystical strolling through it. 🏛🏺📜 My favourite part was the pieces of marble on the wall. The Sleeping Lady. Temple Period, 4000 - 2500 BC.

This clay figure of a reclining lady was found in one of the pits of the Hypogeum in Hal Saflieni in Malta. It has traces of red ochre paint and is thought to represent a "mother goddess", even though she may equally be a representation of death or eternal sleep. Now on display at the National Museum of Valetta, Malta.

A woolly rhino found in Siberian permafrost this year! It was recovered in Sakha Republic and delivered to researchers in Yakutsk. It��s probably the best preserved woolly rhino specimen found so far. At more than 20’000 years old it has its internal organs still preserved. Day 2: 91°F, went out to the furthest sites about an hour away to ground truth. The first video was taken walking through the wooded area of a mound site, and shortly after it was taken I unknowingly dropped my phone while being swarmed by ants. Yay it's Friday afternoon and I have some very exciting news! . Along with @bedouinsilver and @theoverdressedarcheologist , I will be hosting a (totally free) online workshop focusing on the use of social media in archaeological public outreach. Here's the abstract for the event: . "Public outreach is an essential part of archaeology. To ensure ethical accountability to impacted communities, policy-makers, and funding bodies, the relevance of archaeological research must be shared with the wider public. In the last two decades, digital opportunities for facilitating such outreach have developed significantly since the earliest discussions of ‘digital public archaeology’, as has internet connectivity and the online presence of modern society in general. . Social media forms an excellent medium for archaeologists to share research and results, while also enthusing the general public—and each other—regarding the discipline. Familiarity with the media-consumption habits and needs of particular groups is therefore important, as is an understanding of how social media can be used to share and highlight current archaeological research. . Part of the workshop will be dedicated to like-minded archaeologists—including individual researchers, museums and research institutions, heritage organisations, and one-time projects—sharing their experiences on social media outreach. There will also be the opportunity for participants to have their social media presence reviewed by a professional outreach coach Petra Kevenaar of social media management bureau @hashtagjunkies " .
