Not sure if it’s an actual headcanon but it’s fun to think about, Kate was the only supportive one in the family for Noah joining the military (she just wanted him to be happy). After he died, her parents blamed her for not discouraging him.
love it, but also love the reverse.
her parents supported him enlisting, maybe they're a military family. but kate is a millenial, 9/11 was a formative event for her (probably when she was in 7th or 8th grade, if whistler is a similar age to tori) and the wars in afghanistan and iraq were most of her adolescence. those wars were bullshit and they made her anti-military. whistler's always been a logical person, there were no wmd's, and suddenly the us is killing people in two countries and our soldiers are dying and it doesn't make any fucking sense and kate hates it.
so noah decided to enlist, and she was so against it. she fought, she pushed, she made fucking powerpoints about it, and her parents were furious. thought she was unpatriotic, unamerican, insulting to them and their service and their family history. but whistler was unmoving, and noah knew their love was conditional on his service. he was the only boy, he was the legacy. he knew.
so noah went.
and then noah didn't come home.
and kate blamed her parents. they pressured him. he only went because they wanted him to. if they hadn't pressured him, if they'd told him that they'd love him no matter what and it didn't matter to them if he served or not, he'd still be alive. her dad served after vietnam, he wasn't in combat. he had no right to send her brother, her best friend, into two active war zones.
so kate pulled away from her parents, and they pulled away from her. they're ashamed but too proud to say it, and they retreat further and further into their anger and self-righteousness, becoming fox news people and trumpers and hiding their pain behind defensiveness.
kate joins DOD for them, for noah, to try to be more like them, to be the child her parents might want, even though she doesn't like them and they don't really like her.
and it doesn't work.
she keeps thinking maybe the next promotion will do it, will get them to see her, to see how she's given her life for noah and for them, but they don't.
so when she finally turns down that DC promotion, it's for lucy and it's for herself, but it's also to say, fuck them. they pressured noah and he died, and they pushed her away and she's done living for them. she's living for herself now, trying to figure out who she is if she's not trying to please them, not trying to live up to noah's legacy or some fucked up sense of having to be both children.

One thing I've been waiting to see but don't think Nintendo ever did, was say that Luigi could potentially be better than Mario. Everyone talks about Mario being known for his jump, but Luigi jumps higher. If not for his self-doubt he'd probably be unstoppable. (In an unrelated note just because it's a wild theory, did you see the game theory on Rosaline from Galaxy? If not it's a wild ride.)
Oh, this would be great. Not only is Luigi the better jumper than "Mr. Jumpsallthetime" but it would be pretty cool if Nintendo revisited the whole "hey, Luigi is actually a pretty damn competent mechanical engineer" sub-sub-sub-plot from SPM. I guess we kind of get something along those lines with the whole ghostbusting angle from the LM series, but it would be cool to see Luigi's particular, individual strengths addressed directly. (And yes, I agree! Confident!Luigi would be a Force to Reckon With. I mean, he takes down a mansion of malevolent ghosts three times not to mention surviving as a vessel for the actual apocalypse, so yeah, our boy is hiding some serious strengths).
In terms of Rosalina, I actually haven't played Galaxy yet (that'll be another one to boot up on the emulator when I get some time), but I did read up on the basics of the video you referenced, and uh...well, it's certainly a theory. :D I do subscribe to the idea that Peach and Mario never actually get together, so I suppose the Rosalina love child concept isn't all that farfetched. Would make for one hell of a fic plot, ha!
