Surprise Food Test
aos!Pavel Chekov x gn!science!reader
Trigger Warnings: fluff; minor swearing
A/N: I wasn't sure whether to write the reader as part of the medical staff or as a part of the science crew, so I decided to flip a coin and got tails (science crew). I haven't had this proofread; apologies for any mistakes.
×××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××
The Bridge always had something interesting happen from time to time.
That doesn't mean the sciences can't be just as interesting now and again as well.
You had mentioned to Pavel on your first date that you were planning on conducting an experiment involving one of the flora you had collected from a planet Enterprise recently visited.
That had been two weeks ago and he was getting more and more puzzled as to what was taking you forever to show him this experiment of yours.
At your workspace, you were conducting test number ten of your experiment while blaring music through headphones.
The music muffled Chekov approaching with some food for the both of you.
Seeing the meal in your peripheral vision, you jumped. "Fuck! Pavel," you hit his arm with the back of your hand, "don't scare me like that next time."
On the tray was two sandwiches, grilled cheese for him and [your fav sandwich] for you.
"So this is the experiment you've been working on?" Pavel took a quick glance at each test before turning to face you.
One by one, you went through each test thoroughly, Pavel taking small bites of his grilled cheese so he could pay attention to every last detail.
Realizing you had yet to touch your sandwich, he gently slid your plate closer to you and asked if he could try something.
Watching the navigator see how the flora reacts to different beverages certainly provided some interesting results.
Good thing replicators exist because by the time Pavel was done, there was a small mess.
×××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××
The End
(Sorry if it seems short. I wasn't completely sure how long to make it, so I thought I'd leave bits to the imagination, especially the ending.)

Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Jim Kirk x Reader

Masterlist - Join My Taglist!
Fandom: Star Trek
Prompt: "Did you carve a pumpkin?" "Yeah, I carved a pumpkin that looks like a clown." "What clown?" "You."
Summary: Y/N and Jim Kirk grew up together as childhood best friends. Y/N had a childhood crush on him that developed into something much, much more. Still, they never took that extra step, instead staying best friend even as Jim went off to join Starfleet and explore the stars. Now, Kirk's coming home to Iowa for the first time in a while, and things might finally start to change—especially if the rest of his crew has anything to say about it.

Putting work into an AI program without permission is illegal. You do not have my permission. Do not do it.
I finished arranging the cookies I'd made on a plate, then set them carefully on the table in the living room. I'd spent all morning preparing, and with some classical music playing in the background and the house completely decked out for Halloween, everything was perfect.
My best friend since I was a kid, Jim Kirk, was coming back to Iowa for the first time since he'd left for Star Fleet Academy. He was on shore leave for the week, along with the rest of his crew, and he was bringing a group of friends home to visit.
Of course, "home" for Jim didn't mean the house he'd grown up in. It hadn't meant that for a long time. Especially in those last few years before he left, home for Jim had become me and my place.
He'd become home for me too, although I'd never quite been able to tell him. When he left for Star Fleet, I'd cried for days. The only thing that made me feel better was that he was finally happy. Finally safe from all the baggage in his house.
I'd gone to visit him a few times in San Francisco, and we video chatted regularly, but this was the first time he'd come back to Iowa.
I couldn't wait to see him.
I snagged a few chips from the table just as a knock sounded at my door. I practically jumped for joy as I headed to the front of my house and flung open the door to find Jim standing there, a mile-wide grin on his face and a crowd of people behind him.
"Y/N!" he cried, wrapping me in a tight hug before picking me up and swinging me around. I laughed and hugged him back just as tight, and after a second he set me down gently on the ground.
"Jim! It's so good to see you!" I laughed.
"You too! I missed seeing you in person," he said with a smile. We stayed like that for a second, before one of his other friends cleared his throat and he turned around to introduce him. "Y/N, these are my friends and my crew. This is Spock, Bones, Uhura, Scotty, Sulu, and Chekov."
"Hi!" I said, smiling and waving to each person in turn as they returned the gesture. "I've heard so much about you all, I'm happy I finally get to meet you in person! Please, come in!"
"It's nice to finally meet you too," said the only girl in the group, Uhura. "Jim talks about you all the time."
"He does?" I asked, turning around to look at my best friend. He gave me a smile that was clearly trying to hide a grimace, and I looked back at Uhura with a slightly faster heartbeat than usual.
"Oh yeah," she said, smiling as she took my arm and we walked to the living room together. "It's like meeting a living legend."
I grinned, feeling my face heat up slightly as the group made it to the living room. I sat down on the couch with Uhura on one side and Jim on the other. I swear Jim had a slight blush around his neck, but I didn't want to get caught staring at him, so I couldn't be totally sure.
"So, Y/N, you probably have lots of embarrassing stories about the captain," said Sulu, looking at me with a massive grin on his face.
"Oh, you have no idea. I want to hear about everything he's done on the Enterprise too, though! Maybe we could trade a story for a story?"
Bones, who sat across from me, looked at me with excitement in his eyes and an evil smile on his face. He and Jim had been friends since the academy, and other than me, Bones was his best friend.
"That sounds like a damn good idea," said Bones. I grinned right back at him and took a breath to launch into my first story, but Jim cut me off before I could.
"You know, I'm sure there'll be plenty of time for that later," he said. I started to protest, but Jim spoke over me with the most obvious subject change of all time. He looked at me with that trademark James T. Kirk smile and spoke. "Did you carve a pumpkin?"
"Yeah, I carved a pumpkin that looks like a clown," I said, turning to face him more clearly and smiling right back.
"What clown?"
"You."
The whole room burst out laughing, Jim and I included. He barely wasted a second before throwing an arm around me and pulling me in tight to his side, and I'd be lying if I said my heart didn't skip a beat.
"I missed this. Bones just can't quite measure up to the same level of teasing I always get from you," he laughed.
"Clearly," I teased back. "You've lost your edge since the last time I saw you. I was expecting you to fire a shot back for the pumpkin remark."
"All in due time, sweetheart. All in due time."
I grinned, and the eight of us laughed our heads off together. Jim left his arm around my shoulders, and I sure as hell wasn't complaining as I leaned a little closer into his chest. With the two of us together and the easy laughter and conversation between his friends and I, it felt just like when we were kids, but a million times better.
*****************
The next few days were just as amazing as the first. We went hiking, showed everyone around the town we grew up in, and had a good old-fashioned road trip with the soundtrack of all Jim and I's favorite classical music. Not everyone loved classical music as much as we did, but Jim and I quickly decided we didn't care.
The eight of us sat by a pond Jim and I always visited as kids on the fifth day of their leave. I couldn't quite believe I'd have to say goodbye to Jim and all my new friends in just two days.
I was trying very hard not to think about it.
Chekov and I sat on a picnic blanket by the water's edge, watching our friends play in the water with smiles on our faces. Spock, of course, was mostly observing, although Jim and Bones were doing their damnedest to drag him in with them.
"How long before they give up against that Vulcan strength, do you think?" I asked amusedly.
"Based on previous experience? I do not think they will."
Chekov and I shared a laugh, then fell back into comfortable silence. I watched Jim with a smile on my face, and after a few seconds, Chekov turned to me.
"So, how long were you and the captain together?" he asked. I whirled around to look at him, shock written all over my face.
"What?"
"Oh! I am sorry, I did not mean to pry-"
"No no no, I mean, why do you think we dated? Why... why did you assume we were together?"
"Well... you just seem so close. And the way you look at him, well..." Chekov was flushing bright pink now, but I refused to let him off the hook. "And, well, the last time anyone looked at me that way, we, uh... we were not just friends."
Chekov was burning up with embarrassment, and honestly, I was too. Thank God the others were too far away to hear our conversation.
"No, Chekov, we've never been anything other than platonic," I said. I looked back at Jim in the water, and as much as I just wished this conversation would end, I couldn't stop myself from speaking again anyway. "Although I'd be lying if I said I hadn't wished for that at least a few times."
I couldn't bring myself to look back at Chekov. I kept watching Jim, and after a little bit, he noticed me. His face broke into a smile, and he gestured for me to join him.
I sighed and moved to stand from the blanket, but before I could, Chekov caught my arm. I looked back at him curiously. He wouldn't try to rehash the conversation we'd just had, would he?
"Y/N, for what it's worth..." His eyes darted to Jim in the lake, and then back to me. "He's never told me himself like you did, but... well, I would be very surprised if the captain did not feel the same way about you."
I stood frozen, staring at Chekov in shock. He just stared back at me, trying to get his message across with his eyes as well as his words.
"Y/N!"
Jim broke me out of my spell when he shouted behind me. I turned, and he motioned excitedly for me to join him in the water. I glanced back at Chekov, and he gave me an encouraging nod. I ran down the slope towards Jim, the young Russian's words echoing in my head.
"Finally!" called Jim as soon as I got close enough. "Bones gave up, and Spock moved back up the hill. I need someone else to help me."
"Sweetheart, I really hate to be the one to break it to you, but Vulcans essentially have super strength. You've either got to let it go, or wait until he relaxes his guard enough that you can get him when he's not ready for it."
Jim grinned and wrapped an arm around me as soon as I got close enough.
"I missed you and your help planning things, so much," he said. "How did I ever get by without my favorite partner in crime?"
"From the stories Bones and Spock told me, you almost didn't."
Jim just waved me off. "Ah, I'm fine. Better with you, though. Now, what should we do while we wait for Spock to relax? If that's even something he does."
"Hm..." I looked around at our gathered friends, trying to think straight through Jim's proximity and my conversation with Chekov. I blurted out the first idea that came to mind. "Chicken fight?"
"Great idea!" yelled Jim. "Be my partner?"
"Oh! Yeah, of course!"
"Great! Hop on."
With that, he ducked down into the water so I could get on his shoulders. I took a deep breath to try and calm myself, then put one leg over each of Jim's shoulders. He put his hands firmly on my thighs, and I tangled my fingers in his hair to try and help keep my balance.
I couldn't decide if this was a great idea or an idea that was about to kill me, but I decided I'd worry about it later.
"CHICKEN FIGHT!" yelled Jim, instantly grabbing the attention of the rest of our friends. "Y/N and I against all comers! Who thinks they can take us down?"
Uhura and Scotty quickly teamed up, Uhura popping onto his shoulders as Scotty took a few steps towards us. Chekov sprinted to the water too, quickly teaming up with Sulu as the two of them hovered just close enough to not be in the way.
"We've got winners!" called Sulu. Jim and I each shot him a thumbs up at the same time, then quickly refocused on Uhura and Scotty.
"This is an injury waiting to happen," grumbled Bones from the sideline. I just grinned, and from Bones' irritated scoff, I knew Jim was doing the same thing.
****************
We spent the rest of the day at the pond, and despite numerous attempts, no one managed to beat Jim and I. We'd been chicken fight partners since we were kids, and now that we were both grown up and stronger than ever, absolutely no one else stood a chance.
Jim and I laughed and talked at the front of the group as we walked back to my house together, his arm still wrapped tightly around my shoulders. It seemed to be his favorite place for me to be, and I certainly agreed.
Despite how close we'd been all day and my conversation with Chekov, Jim and I fell into the same old routine over dinner and the next morning without a shred of difference. Chekov kept giving me significant looks whenever Jim and I were next to each other (which was often), but I just couldn't bring myself to do anything. What if it messed up our friendship?
How was I supposed to act on my feelings after hiding them for more than twenty years?
That night, we all sat around a campfire Jim and I had started in my backyard. The crew of the Enterprise was set to beam back up early tomorrow morning, their last day of shore leave, to get everything ready to take off into space again. Jim and I were curled up together by the fire as Bones strummed a guitar. We all swayed and talked and laughed, and I even caught Spock with a small smile on his face.
I just wished it could be like this all the time.
"We should play a game," mused Scotty, swaying back and forth with a smile on his face and a drink in his hand.
"Oh yeah? What kind of game?" asked Sulu.
"Oo! How about truth or dare?" suggested Chekov. I turned and looked at him, then around at the other two, suddenly suspicious.
"Truth or dare sounds good to me," said Uhura. I gave her a wary look, but she didn't look at me. "I'll start. Chekov, truth or dare."
"Truth."
"Did you cheat against me and Scotty in the chicken fight?" The look she fixed him with was absolutely terrifying, and I didn't blame Chekov when he stuttered his response.
"Well... uh, I... I may have done a little fudging..."
"Mhm," said Uhura, interrupting him before he could get any further. "Just wait. I'll get my revenge."
Chekov turned white as a sheet, but Uhura didn't pay him any attention and the rest of us just chuckled. After a few beats, Chekov got it together enough to continue the game.
"Sulu... how about you?" he asked weakly.
"Hm. I'll try a dare."
"Alright. I dare you to... stand up and try the Russian squat dance I was teaching you last month."
Sulu groaned, but took it like a champ anyway as he stood and did his best to complete Chekov's dare. As someone from Iowa, I didn't think he was half bad, but by the way Chekov was laughing he clearly didn't meet up to Russian standards.
"Alright, enough of that," said Sulu, sitting back down with a smile on his face nonetheless. He scanned the circle with his eyes, and I had a heart attack when he looked at me, but thankfully he didn't ask me. After a second, his eyes landed on Bones.
"Doctor. Truth or dare?"
Bones huffed, but didn't even pause his strumming as he spoke.
"Truth."
"Do you ever sing to go with your guitar playing?"
"Yes. But not for any of you."
We all laughed, and I caught Bones trying to hide a smile. He kept playing as he looked around the circle, finally choosing his target.
"Jim. Truth or dare."
"Dare," said Jim with a grin. I could've predicted as much.
"Great. I dare you to kiss Y/N."
I froze, and I felt Jim do the same. I couldn't get myself to turn around and look at him, although I could tell from the grins on everyone's faces that they'd planned this together.
Jim cleared his throat, and slowly, I turned around to face him. He looked as nervous as I felt, and his gorgeous blue eyes roamed my face before meeting mine.
"We don't have to," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I don't want you to do anything you're not comfortable with."
"And what about you?" I whispered back. It took conscious effort not to look at his lips, and despite my best efforts, I think I might have failed a time or two. "Is it something you want to do?"
"I... I mean, I can't say I'd mind," he breathed. My heart sped up, getting close to a million miles an hour, and I smiled.
"And I definitely don't mind. So why don't you do it already?"
Jim grinned and huffed a laugh like he couldn't believe this was real. Honestly, I couldn't either. But I decided I didn't care as he slowly closed the distance between us and his lips met mine in the softest, most perfect kiss I could've imagined.
Despite the people around us, I could only focus on Jim. The rest of the world seemed to fade away as he kissed me harder and wrapped his arms around my waist. I ran my hands through his hair and kissed him back with just as much force as he kissed me, my whole body warming with every second we touched.
It felt simultaneously like a lifetime and an instant before someone around the circle cleared their throat, and Jim and I slowly came back to reality. We broke apart but didn't separate more than an inch, our heavy breathing mingling as we stared into each other's eyes.
"Well, that sure worked better than I thought it would," mused Bones. I managed to tear my eyes away from Jim to look at him, and he had a smug smile on his face. Next to him, Spock was shaking his head.
"Highly illogical."
Bones snorted, and everyone else just laughed and grinned at me and Jim. I honestly didn't know what to do with myself—my head was still spinning from that kiss—but thankfully, Jim had it slightly more together than I did.
"Alright, I think Y/N and I are going to have to tap out of the rest of truth or dare," he said. He paused, then looked back at me. "We have a few things we need to talk about."
I smiled, a swarm of butterflies erupting in my chest and stomach. The rest of our friends whistled and cheered as Jim and I stood and walked hand in hand into the house. I did my best to block them out, but my skin felt like it was on fire.
As soon as we got into the house, Jim turned to me.
"So, I guess we should probably talk-"
I cut him off by pulling him in for another heated kiss. He didn't do anything at first, apparently shocked that I'd made the first move, but he quickly got over it and kissed me back.
"You wanna talk?" I asked, breathing heavily as we pulled apart and I ran my hands through his hair. "I've had a crush on you since the first time you held your own against me in a cattails sword fight. You're my best friend, and one of the best men I know. I've been hoping we could be more than friends for years."
"I must be dreaming," muttered Jim as he wrapped his arms tightly around my waist and pulled me closer to him. "I've hoped for this a million times, but I never thought you'd feel the same way."
"Well, good news flyboy. I do."
Jim grinned, then crashed his lips against mine again. We worked our way back through the house and up the stairs, until we crashed into the bed in my room.
"Are we really doing this?" asked Jim.
"Hell yes we are," I replied. Jim kissed me again, but when he pulled back this time, he didn't look as happy as before. "Jim? Are you sure you're okay with this?"
"Oh, hell yes I am," he quickly assured me. "I just can't believe I have to leave you tomorrow."
"Maybe not," I hummed, pulling him back down to be closer to me again. "Maybe I can apply to be an alien biologist or something and join the crew."
Jim looked elated, and he kissed me hard before pulling back again.
"I bet you could do it. You're the best vet in Iowa, and I'm sure at least some of those skills transfer. But... I don't want you to uproot your whole life for me."
"Jim. You are my whole life. Besides, I really can't complain about an opportunity to see the stars."
Jim grinned and kissed me again, then muttered in my ear. "I'm about to make you see stars."
I giggled (actually giggled), unable to stop myself. I was just so happy to finally be with Jim the way I'd wanted to be. I'd found my soulmate a long time ago, and now that we'd finally realized we felt the same way about each other, I sure as shit wasn't going to let him go.

Tropetember Day 8 - 5+1 / 3+1
You're in my sickbay again...
Pairing: Leonard McCoy x GN!Reader
Fandom: Star Trek (I was writing it as AOS but pretty sure it works for TOS as well if that's your jam)
Rating: Teen and up
TW: Mentions of torture, mention of injuries
AN: Day 8 of @tropetember. Not a massively in depth fic, more like snapshots of situations that occur through the relationship.
3 times Dr McCoy didn't want to see you in his medbay and 1 time he did
Find this story on Ao3 here.
Word Count: 1.3k
1
While you hadn’t been expecting to be beamed directly into the quarantine suite in the Medbay of the USS Enterprise, after three months working with Captain James T for Trouble Kirk, it wasn’t totally surprising either.
Kirk had been invited to a celebration feast in a system you were exploring, but had only been allowed to bring one guest. As Chief Security Officer or CSO, you had been volunteered for the position.
You had done everything you could to keep the Captain away from anything questionable. Sadly, conversations with him usually went something along the lines of:
“Jim, no”
“Jim, yes”.
It was something you regularly discussed in your sessions with the ship's newly appointed counsellor.
Since quarantine procedures were only instigated when the transporter detected an anomaly in the crew members being transported, and assuming it was due to Jim, you just sigh to yourself and shake your head.
“I told you to watch him closely!”
The southern drawl didn’t soften the accusation, even deadened as it was by the plexiglass divider that separated Quarantine from the rest of the medbay.
“I did! I don’t understa…”
You trail off as you have a sudden realisation and groan.
“I found him with his tongue down the Princess’s throat.”
Dr McCoy gives a long suffering sigh.
“I’ll have to run tests on both of you. The transporter team couldn’t definitively tell if you both have it.” He pauses and looks you up and down. “I expected better of you Lieutenant Commander”
“Yeah, cos you’re so much better at this than I am. It was Orion herpes last time, wasn’t it?”
The CMO just smirks and tells you to stop pointing fingers before sauntering off towards the storage cupboard. You respond by flipping him off. And you maybe watch his ass a little.
Turning to the Captain, who has been uncharacteristically silent until this point, you channel your inner McCoy.
“Goddamnit Jim!”
Jim decides that you and Bones are spending too much time together.
2
When Scotty had called to warn Dr McCoy of an incoming victim of an explosion in engineering, he had not expected it to be you.
“You’re in my sickbay again sweetheart.”
He uses a sing-song tone that he doesn’t employ with the rest of the crew. Nurse Chapel, who is at the other side of the bed, takes note to check in with the Captain as to the state of the betting pool. She believes she may have lost.
You nod in response to the doctor’s enquiry. You’re in far too much pain to think of anything more complex than that in response.
“What were you even doing in Engineering?” he grumbles to himself, moving around in the space to grab hypos, bandages, burn salve and a dermal regenerator. “You’re almost as bad as Jim and Spock.”
You try to focus on him but you’re struggling to stay conscious. It’s not aided by the painkillers he dumps into your system.
McCoy gently moves you to be laying on the bed. He’s concerned at the extent of the damage done and the nerve trauma to your arm. To ease your pain, he hits you with a sedative and you’re out like a light.
-------
You groan as you come back to consciousness, the light of the medbay hurting your eyes.
“Welcome back darlin’” you hear.
Smiling despite yourself, you squint in Leonard’s direction.
“I was helping with the repairs on the lower decks. I assumed it was safer than an away mission. Apparently I was wrong.”
Surprised laughter bubbles from the grumpy doctor as he agrees.
“Well, get yourself rested up. I’m serious this time. I don’t want to see you back in my medbay.”
“Sure” you agree, both of you knowing it won’t last for long. Occupational hazard. “Dinner and a movie on Saturday if the mean Doctor lets me go?”
3
It made a change for a mission to go wrong due to something Spock did but in a culture that valued feelings as much more important than logic, it was not that surprising.
Most of the crew had made a successful escape but yourself and Dr McCoy had been taken hostage during the initial skirmish. You’d been thrown in a cell together and that had been that.
Or at least, so you’d thought.
You’d been dragged from the cell, questioned and beaten in front of McCoy in an attempt to find out details of the Enterprise and it’s crew. You hadn’t broken, but by the time you’d been rescued, you definitely had at least a couple of broken ribs, a black eye and various assorted cuts and bruises.
Len was quiet as he helped to repair your injuries. Where you were black and blue, his torture had been psychological. He couldn’t get your screams out of your head.
Noticing his distracted state you grasps his jaw gently, disguising the wince it bring when it pulls a little, and raise his eyes to yours.
“This isn’t your fault.”
His eyes dart away but you stay firm.
“I am trained for this, Len. I’d do it again to protect you. But you’re going to need to let the guilt go.”
He sighs heavily.
“I’ll try.” He pauses to run the regen unit over your upper arm. “You’ll need to do me a favour though.”
“Anything.”
“Go on a date with me?”
Mr Spock had been on his way to apologise for the consequences of his actions but is distracted by the fact that he has won the betting pool. He better inform the Captain and come back later.
1
You’re still not sure how it happened. As CSO, your main responsibility was the Captain and when things went wrong, his safety was paramount. You couldn’t check on everyone else. You just had to trust that your team was doing their job.
You hadn’t even realised Len had been hit until you landed on the transporter pad.
There had been so much blood.
Now, you were pacing outside the OR. It had been hours since the beam out when finally M’Benga pops his head out.
“He’ll be ok. He won’t be working for a few weeks but he’ll be ok.”
Your knees give out from under you and you land heavily on the chair behind you. Tears of relief escape without your permission and you drop your head into your hands.
M’Benga gives your shoulder a squeeze, letting you know where Len is being moved to and giving you permission to stay with him, before heading off to finish cleaning himself up.
You take a deep breath and approach Len’s bed. His larger than life presence is softened in sleep and you can’t help but notice how fragile he looks.
Taking his hand, you place a kiss on his knuckles and then rest your head against the mattress. After nearly 36hrs awake, you’re out like a light
-----
You wake to the feeling of fingers running through your hair which you automatically nuzzle into. It’s nice. Comforting.
It takes longer than you’d ever admit to orient yourself, but when you do, you raise yourself and meet Len’s eyes. He has a soft smile on his face that you can’t help but mirror.
“Sorry for dropping in, I know you didn’t want to see me in your medbay.” It’s a cheeky comment but it widens his smile into a grin. You pat yourself on the back for lightening the atmosphere.
“I’ll let you off this time.” His voice is a bit scratchy from lack of use but it sounds like the finest music to your ears. How could you have been so close to never hearing it again? He continues, “care to join me for dinner? I’m afraid there’s only jello.”
You laugh at the silly grump of a man in the hospital bed. Your best friend. Your favourite person. The love of your life.
“I’d love to.”

Waiting for you - Spock
Pairing: Spock x reader (gender neutral)
Warnings: mentions of injury and death
Words: 1838
Star Trek universe: AOS
A/N: Just a lil thing I wrote because I haven’t written (at least for Spocko) in ages. And didn’t feel like writing on a series.
-
“She’s here. She’s here” you heard someone shouting beside you and looked around and finally you could see the Enterprise approaching in one of many tunnels above you. You smiled and stepped forward a little and waited for the crew to dismount. When you saw the first of them, your smile got broader and you got onto your tiptoes to look out for your husband. Not many people of the Enterprise had someone waiting for them and those who did seemed overjoyed. It made you look down for moment because you had a feeling that Spock wouldn’t greet you like others greeted their loved ones. Finally, you could see him and slightly raised your hand, hoping he’d see you. When he did, he came straight towards you, stopping half a meter in front of you
“(Y/N)” he said “What brings you to Yorktown?”
“I’ll give you three guesses” you replied and just threw yourself around his neck “I’ve missed you, Spock” you breathed against his skin and he hugged you back slightly.
“Am I therefore right to conclude that you came here in order to see me during my shore leave?”
“Right” you let go of him but only that you could kiss him. He cupped your face and kissed you back. At some point his hand found yours, slowly stroking his first two fingers against yours. But then he pulled away from you all of a sudden, just holding your hand. You turned around and saw two older Vulcans behind you.
“Commander, might we have a word? Alone?” you wanted to ask why you couldn’t come when Spock threw a glance at you and squeezed your hand
“Do you mind?”
“Just be quick” you pecked his cheek “I’ll be waiting for you, okay?” you handed him a keycard of the hotel where you had booked a room for you both. He gave a nod, then let go of your hand and followed the two men. With a sigh you looked after him and returned to the hotel, knowing he would be clever enough to find it when he was done.
But he only came when it was dark and you were already in bed, reading a magazine on your PADD.
“Have you been waiting with sleeping until I return?”
“Well, you got some days of shore leave, then I won’t see you for another two years. I want to use every minute with you that I can” he gave a nod and sat down on the bed, placing a device on the nightstand. “What did they want?”
“I will tell you in the morning”
“Alright” you put the PADD aside and stretched yourself a little before sitting up, crawling closer to him and wrapping your arms around him again, kissing him. “We now have better things to do, don’t you think?” he kissed you back and placed one of his hands in the small of your back, pulling you closer while he ran his other hand over the side of your face. After the kiss he leaned his forehead to yours and you bumped his nose with yours. “Did you have fun out there on the mission?”
“I have written and called you three times per week, as we have agreed on, and informed you about what you call ‘adventures’ and have also answered each question concerning them I was allowed to answer”
“Well yes but your last message was two days ago. I need a recap of the past two days. Or retell me your favorite mission. Doing it face-to-face is much better” you pecked his lips. He gave a nod, pulled you into his lap and started telling you how the Captain had attempted to make peace between two species that didn’t work out as planned. Then he went on to their arrival to Yorktown and suddenly his communicator beeped “Tell me that’s your private comm”
“It is not” he leaned forward to get it and you just wanted to stop him but let it happen with a sigh. Placing you back on the bed, he gave your hand a squeeze, took the comm, opened it and left the room. With a sigh you fell back on the bed, glancing to the PADD and considering if you should continue reading but then looked at the ceiling, repeating everything you had planned to do with Spock in the following days in your mind. Soon Spock returned and you sat up with a smile but his words ruined it “I must go”
“Go? Go where? Aren’t you on shore leave?”
“I am. However, there is a matter that requires my assistance”
“What is it?”
“I cannot tell you much but I must leave Yorktown”
“You’re shitting me”
“I do not joke”
“But… but… will you at least get that time off later on? How long will you be gone?”
“I suppose it should not take longer than 36 hours”
“Oh well…. Then you owe me yet another debriefing upon your return” he gave a nod, came closer to put his comm on his nightstand and pecking your forehead.
“Please make yourself a pleasant day tomorrow”
“Okay. And then I’ll be waiting here for you… again”
-
But Spock didn’t come home the evening or morning after he had left, so you decided to make yourself another nice day exploring another area of Yorktown. In the late afternoon, you suddenly heard how the station went on alert and after looking around you saw that a swarm of tiny ships tried attacking Yorktown. Around you everyone was in panic, screaming, rallying kids and running away while you stood there frozen, staring at the many little ships on the other side of Yorktown.
“We have to leave. Come. Now” someone next to you shouted, pulling on your arm
“Can we go somewhere safe? Like a… bunker?”
“A bunker on a Starbase?” the man started laughing slightly and shook his head.
“Or can we do something? Something to help? Is there a defense station or militia? Or help evacuate people?”
“That’s Starfleet’s business” as if on cue, there was an announcement, informing the public that there was an attack and that you should not panic. You let out a snort and watched how the people around you seemed to panic even more. You looked around and finally saw a security, officer, going over to him.
“Excuse me, Sir?”
“Don’t worry, we’ll all be safe, just stay calm and…”
“No, I wanted to ask if I can help something.”
“Help?”
“Yeah. Weapons, evacuate people or something” he looked at you, considered it a while then said he’d have to check it out. But before he could return, they managed to somehow blow up all the small ships. Somehow you couldn’t believe that this was everything and sure enough, there was another announcement informing the public that a great part of the ship had been destroyed but that three of them had gotten into Yorktown but that they still had the situation under control and would do everything to stop them. For some reason, you found that three ships hand entered Yorktown almost worse than the initial attack. Because you knew there probably wasn’t much you could do unless the ships came to that part of Yorktown, you sat down in a café, ordered a drink and watched the news on the big screen that gave a permanent update on the situation at the other end of Yorktown. Not even 15 minutes later, you heard that everyone was out of danger and the intruders had been rendered harmless. After a sigh, you finished your drink and then returned to the scene of the action, maybe there now was something you could help, like tidying up damage or helping the wounded. You stayed there and helped until it was dark and the volunteers were sent home, so you returned to the hotel. But you didn’t get far and the receptionist called you over.
“You are (Y/N) (Y/L/N), right?”
“That’s me, yeah”
“I have message for you, from a doctor Leonard McCoy”
“I know him. He’s the doctor on the Enterprise. What is this message about?”
“He lets you know, that your husband… Commander Spock will spend the night in Yorktown hospital”
“Ho-hospital? They’re back? What does he have? Is it bad? Can I visit him? When did they get back?”
“He only told me that so you know where your husband is and in case you wish to see him. I don’t know anything else” you nodded and with a thank-you you ran out of the hotel, to the hospital, where you had brought a few people earlier today. You went to a visitor station to register your visit and once you knew where your husband was and that he currently could be visited, you rushed to the elevator and then to his room. When you saw Spock lying in bed awake, you let out a deep breath and moved closer.
“Spock” you breathed, not sure what to say and having a hundred questions at the tip of your tongue. "How are you?” was the first you asked
“I am well, (Y/N). The doctors insisted I stayed the night to ensure that my condition does not become worse” you nodded and came closer, taking his hand, pressing a kiss to it as you sat down on the edge of the bed. To your delight, he squeezed your hand.
“What happened? To you, I mean?” he explained how on the mission his side was impaled by a piece of metal and that McCoy didn’t have the correct equipment to properly treat him. “At least you’re safe” you ran your free hand through his hair. “When did you even get back?”
“4.2 hours ago”
“That was… that was when the attack happened” he agreed and said it was them who played a great role in stopping them. “Oh so that big ship that destroyed the central plaza was you, the Franklin?”
“Indeed”
“And what about the Enterprise?”
“She has been destroyed”
“Oh no. What about the crew? Are they safe?”
“We have not yet been able to ascertain who has survived the attack on the Enterprise and who lost their life, however, I am certain that at least 350 people have survived”
“Out of 428 that’s still a lot that could have died”
“Besides, I also know of at least 16 casualties from the crew” you gave a nod
“And what now? I mean is your mission over? The Enterprise is gone”
“We do not know yet but it is certain that we will remain her for longer than the originally scheduled 12 days of shore leave”
“Well, then we got more time to do something as long as we’re here. And I get to see you longer. Ha that visit was worth it” you leant down to kiss his forehead. “Now we just gotta make sure you’ll be on your feet as soon as possible because I have lot planned for the next days”

Star Trek - Leonard "Bones" McCoy x reader - Southern Charm - Words: 3,556
A/N: While I did write this with TOS in mind, I do believe it is fairly AOS compliant as well. Enjoy!
"Lieutenant Commander Y/N L/N, Chief Medical Officer of the Starship Serenity."
"Welcome aboard the Enterprise, Doctor L/N. I'm Captain James T. Kirk. This is my first officer, Commander Spock and our CMO, Doctor McCoy. We're looking forward to having you as the first trainee in the Starship Exchange Training program."
"Pleasure to meet you all. And I'm looking forward to it as well," You replied, stepping off the transporter pad. You gave the Captain a handshake, the First Officer a Vulcan salute and then turned to the grumpy looking CMO.
"How old are you?" He demanded to know.
"Old enough," You assured him, crossing your arms. "Why do you ask?"
"Just don't see many youngsters like you with that rank," He trailed off, leaving the statement open ended.
"Well, I happen to be an outlier. Or haven't you heard of that, Doctor? Besides, I'm not that young," You replied, curtly. You didn't often become confrontational this quickly but questions on your age and suspicions on how you got your rank were a sore spot for you.
"Just because I have to train you doesn't mean I have to like it," McCoy grumbled.
"I never asked you to." You quickly grabbed your bag that was transported with you and walked to the doors. Just before you stepped out to the hallway, you turned back around. "Captain, Commander, have a good evening. I am looking forward to working with you two over the next few weeks. Don't worry, I know where my quarters are. Doctor, I will see you at 6."
As you unpacked your bag, you thought over what happened in the transporter room. You had really been looking forward to this training and you had heard many great things about the Doctor. Of course, you had also heard he was a bit of a grump, but you hadn't thought it was this bad! You decided to stay in your room for the rest of that evening, as it was already late when you arrived, and try for a fresh start in the morning.
"Are you out of your mind? I'm a doctor, not an assassin!"
"I was simply saying, Doctor McCoy, that Starfleet medical personnel are completely untrained in self defense techniques! We are trained to save lives, not take them. That I completely agree with. But we must also be trained how to defend and disable. Defend ourselves, disable our opponents. Otherwise we may become a hindrance to any away missions we get assigned on!"
"Look, even if you're right, and you're not, when would we have the time to train?" He yelled. "Have you ever been to medical school? Do you know how stressful that is?"
"Of course I went to med school! I happened to graduate top of my class! And I remember very clearly how stressful it is! But they need to make it work! Even another month would be enough for most!"
"Another month?" He screeched. He raked his fingers through his hair and rubbed his forehead. "Look, I have plenty of training to defend myself in the field. Let's just agree to disagree and get this over with."
"Alright, Doctor," You sighed. The first 2 weeks of training slowly passed with the only change in attitude being on your side. You'd gotten to disliking the Doctor as much as he disliked you. Every day you trained was near constant arguing and insulting.
Unbeknownst to you, Kirk had started taking bets from the senior crew members on when in the final week you two would get together. Whoever won would get 3 days vacation. The current bets on Kirk's paper were:
Uhura: As she steps on the transporter to leave Thursday
Scotty: Monday
Chekov: End of shift Tuesday
Sulu: Beginning of shift Wednesday
Spock: At precisely 07:35 in the evening Friday
Kirk looked oddly at Spock when he submitted his estimate. "Spock, you do realize she is scheduled to leave Thursday afternoon."
"Yes, Jim."
"So why-"
"I have my reasons."
"Logical, I'm sure."
"Quite. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm needed in engineering."
"Ok, Spock. But don't get your hopes high about any vacation!"
Monday: Scotty's Day
You got up early and headed down to the rec room to get breakfast. Usually you had breakfast in your room but this morning, oddly enough, Scotty had invited you to join him for breakfast. Once you entered the rec room you mentally groaned. Of course McCoy would be there!
"Good morning, Scotty," You greeted, walking up to his table which was unfortunately right next to Kirk, Spock, and McCoy's table.
"Aye! And an even lovelier morning with you here, lassie!" You blushed slightly, surprised at the engineer's comment.
"Oh please!" You scoffed. You were about to walk away to the replicators to get your food when Spock cleared his throat.
"I believe Mister Scott is correct, Doctor. Your hair and makeup accentuate your natural beauty quite well."
"Spock!" You, Kirk and McCoy gasped at the same time.
"Look here," You finally said, gathering your composure. "I appreciate a compliment here and there but really! I'm going to go get my breakfast and I don't want to hear one more peep out of any of you when I return! Understand?" They all nodded and stuck to their word, not another compliment for the rest of the day.
Tuesday - Chekov's Day
Your shift had gone fairly well. Training with Doctor McCoy was finally becoming almost bearable and there hadn't been any major disasters. "Doctor, was there anything else you needed me for today?" You asked, stepping into the open doorway of his office.
"No, you can go if you'd like," He sighed, not lifting his eyes from his PADD.
"Is something troubling you, Doctor?"
"Just a lot of paperwork, darlin'," He said absently. You blushed brightly and he quickly tried to correct himself. "I mean, Doctor. Sorry." He finally looked at you, face as red as yours. You nodded and attempted to make a hasty exit but you ran into a gold blur.
"Oh! Ezcuze me!" Chekov quickly said, helping you up. "I'm wery sorry! Are you hurt?"
"Only my pride, Pavel," You replied, dusting yourself off.
"What in blazes happened out here?" McCoy yelled, stomping out.
"Oh nothing, Doctor," You assured him.
"Well watch where you're going next time!" He ordered. With that he marched back to his office and closed the doors. You sighed and wished Chekov goodnight before leaving.
"No vacation," Chekov mumbled softly before leaving Medbay too.
Wednesday - Sulu's Day
You walked into Medbay to start your shift only to find Sulu already there. "What are you doing here so early?" You asked. "Your check-up isn't for another 45 minutes."
"I wanted to make sure I got here on time. You know how it is on the bridge sometimes," He chuckled. You nodded and chuckled lightly. You checked the schedule on the PADD and noticed the Ensign before him had cancelled.
"Well, Sulu, you just managed to get an early appointment. Step on up!" You had him sit on the nearest biobed and grabbed your Tricorder. As you started running over the usual check-up points, Dr. McCoy walked in.
"You're here early," He commented. Sulu nodded and you explained what happened. "Alright. Y/N, I'm going to leave you to it. I have a headache this morning and I think I'll just sit in my office for a bit with the lights down." You looked at him a little better, noticing how exhausted he looked. His hair was a mess and there were dark bags under his eyes. He may be a pain but he was still human and you felt for him.
"Did you need me to get you anything, Doctor?" You asked. He shook his head but groaned at the movement. "Just comm me if you need anything." He made a noise of agreement and you went on with Sulu's checkup.
Thursday - Uhura's Day
"Good morning, Y/N," Uhura greeted you in the turbolift on your way to Medbay.
"Good morning, Uhura," You replied abit sadly.
"You alright, sweetheart?"
"I'm going to miss you all. I love my ship and my crew, don't get me wrong, but," You trailed off, unsure of how to explain yourself.
"You don't feel like family there?" She filled in. You nodded slightly. "Oh honey, I understand. Don't feel bad, alright? Who knows! Maybe you'll get a transfer one day even!"
"That would be nice I guess," You admitted. The doors swooshed open and as you stepped out, Dr. McCoy walked by.
"Doctor L/N," He said, sounding somewhat frustrated. "I need you to gather all the anti-toxin hypos we have."
"Of course. Is everything alright?"
"Spock just told me we're going on a mission tomorrow. He should have told me at least 2 days ago. The new colony on Oliza 6 sent out a distress call about 1 week ago saying that something was wrong. They said some of the younger people were having strange reactions to some of the foods."
"That's odd. Isn't the food on a planet usually tested first?"
"Yes but apparently they forgot to test on the younger adults. Blasted regulations. Test one adult you've tested them all." At this point you had nodded a silent goodbye to Uhura and started walking with Doctor McCoy down the hall. "Let's see if we can't find out what's on that planet and run some tests of our own. Might save some time."
"Doctor?" You said, somewhat hesitantly.
"Yes?"
"I do have to go back to my ship this afternoon. I," you paused. McCoy had finally started to be nice with you and now you had to go. You didn't want to upset him again on your last day. "I'll help as much as I can on the tests of course, Doctor, but I-"
"No, no," He said with a sigh. "I didn't realize it was Thursday." He smiled slightly and put his hand on your shoulder. "If you tell anyone what I'm about to say, I'll have to kill you," He joked. "Your work has been excellent. Your skill set is beyond your years and please don't take that wrong. You've impressed me." You blushed at his praise. "Of course, I still don't agree with the extra combat training," He added. You rolled your eyes and he chuckled. "But I guess you're not so bad."
"Well thank you, Doctor. I, uh, I guess I'll get the hypos for you now."
"Oh, um, yes, thank you," he replied somewhat awkwardly. The rest of your shift went about the same. You and the Doctor awkwardly dancing around each other. Eventually, though, the time came for you to finish packing, and leave the Enterprise.
As you headed to the transporter room, Uhura came running up to you with a small package in her hands. "What's this?" You asked.
"Oh, just a little going away present that a few of us put together for you."
"That's really sweet of you. Thanks so-"
"Bridge to Lt. Uhura," The Captain's voice rang through her comm.
"Duty calls!" She exclaimed. "Keep in touch!"
"Will do!" You replied, heading off to the transporters. Once you got there though, you saw Scotty talking to the Captain through the comm. He seemed upset about something.
"But Captain! I-"
"Scotty, we need to help that colony. There's no time."
"Aye, Captain. Scott out," He sighed. "I cannae believe 'at."
"What's wrong?"
"Oh, lassie. I'm so sorry! The Captain just got an emergency message from Oliza 6. We're heading there straight away."
"So I'll be staying another night?"
"At least." Your brows furrowed in thought. While you did want to get back to your ship to start your transfer application, a few more days here was not all that bad.
"Ok," You replied. Scotty seemed surprised. "I'll just take this back to my room and then head to Medbay. They'll probably need me handy."
"Aye. I'll let the Captain and Doctor know." You nodded in reply and headed off. When you returned to Medbay, you could have sworn you saw a look of relief on McCoy's face.
"Doctor L/N," McCoy said. "I'm putting you in charge of Medbay for the time being." Your eyebrows raised in surprise. "Jim's put me on the landing party and you technically are the next ranking medical officer on this ship."
"Well, thank you, I guess," You said. "Have you made any progress on the tests?"
"I believe so," He pulled up some test results on his PADD and showed them to you. "The hobgoblin ended up helping me but he was actually of some use." He looked around furtively. "Don't tell him I said so though."
"I promise," you said seriously. You stared at each other for a moment before you both broke out into a fit of laughter.
"Really though, the fruits on Oliza 6 seem to be causing a buildup of adrenaline in their systems causing aggression, anxiety and heart problems."
"Hm, interesting."
"That's what the hobgoblin said," McCoy grunted. You chuckled and he finished explaining their plan to administer hypos to everyone. The comm suddenly whistled.
"Bridge to Dr. McCoy," Uhura said.
"Yes, Lieutenant?" He replied.
"The Captain is preparing to beam down now and would like you to meet him in the transporter room."
"Alright, I'm on my way." You followed the Doctor as he gathered a few last minute items from his office. When he grabbed his phaser from his desk you couldn't help yourself.
"Doctor, that phaser is last year's model. Didn't you get your new one?"
"Oh, must not've. I'll ask Scotty for one." He grabbed his communicator and flipped it open. "McCoy to Scott."
"Scott here. Whaddya need, Doctor?"
"L/N said my phaser is old. Got a new one for me?"
"Sure do, Doc. I'll have her all polished up for ya when ya get to the transporters. Just remember, this one's a wee bit more powerful than the last. She's got a bit of a kick!"
"Don't worry, Scotty, I'm sure I can handle it. McCoy out." You looked worriedly at him because, knowing his views on defense training and based on what he said, this new phaser would throw him for a loop.
"Doctor, perhaps you should just stay with your old pha-"
"Doctor L/N," He said stiffly. "I do not want to hear anything more about training. I am perfectly capable of defending myself. Please do not worry yourself. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a mission to attend to. Do you think you'll be able to handle Medbay while I'm gone?"
"Of course, Doctor McCoy," You snapped. You heard the Medbay doors swoosh closed and sighed, leaning on he's desk in his office. You closed the office doors and locked them, needing a moment to gather yourself. "Gah! That man is so annoying!" You yelled to yourself. "If he doesn't get himself killed on this mission-" you left your threat unfinished. "Oh! I could just kiss him," You seethed. "I mean, kick." You paused, mid-pace, and shook your head vigorously. Your brain had apparently taken a left turn without telling you. "Did I seriously just-and now I'm talking to myself. Ok, Y/N, get yourself together. You'll figure it out later." You finished your little pep talk and headed back out.
The first few hours were fine. One or two clumsy engineers with a few cuts and bruises. A sniffle here and a headache there. It was actually somewhat relaxing. You decided to be a little helpful and got some paperwork done for Dr. McCoy. As you sat in his office tapping away on your PADD, you found yourself lost in thought. You hoped he wouldn't be upset that you did some extra work for him. "That's not what I asked you to do, Doctor!" You mocked under your breath. Chuckling slightly you continued your quiet monologue, "Oh wouldn't he be upset if I ran a report on him. He definitely is overworked. He'd come in here, yelling and screaming in that adorable southern accent of his, and he would proba-" You interrupted yourself again. Staring off for a second, realizing what you just said. "Adorable? Good grief. I'm either unconscious or demented."
The rest of the shift went fairly well and you heard that the landing party was making good progress too. Finally you turned everything over to the night shift doctor and went to your quarters to get some rest before your shift began again in the morning. Your sleep that night was restless, though, and when your alarm went off you didn't think you had slept a wink.
Friday - Spock's Day
"Good morning, Doctor L/N," one of the nurses greeted you as you walked into Medbay.
"Good morning," You replied tiredly. "Anything on the schedule?" You asked as you got a cup of coffee from the replicator.
"No. Just a couple of vaccines that the nurses can take care of."
"Good. I'll be in the office if you need me then."
"Are you alright, Doctor?"
"Fine. Just couldn't sleep last night."
"Oh, I understand. I'm worried about Dr. McCoy too. As I understand, the reaction the youths are having is fairly viol-"
"I am not worried about the good doctor!" You yelled, angrily. "Just in case you didn't notice, he's not exactly my type. And even if he was, that is no concern of yours, nurse!"
"Permission to speak freely, Doctor?" She asked with a slight smirk.
"Of course," You replied, rubbing your forehead. "I'm not the dang Captain." She giggled lightly before replying.
"That's exactly what McCoy would say. No go get some rest. We'll hold down the fort, Doctor." With that she walked off to get a few things prepped for the day. As you walked into the office and sat down, you thought about her observation.
"Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit."
A few hours later, after a short nap and another cup of coffee, you were reorganizing the supply room when Scotty called through on the comm. "Doctor L/N! We're gonna need a team down here immediately! The captain and Dr. McCoy were injured and we're beaming them aboard right now!"
"Ok, Scotty, we'll be right there, how serious is it?" You replied. Chills had run up your spine when he said Dr. McCoy had been injured but you kept yourself focused.
"The Captain's not too bad. I think he said a broken arm. Doctor McCoy though. He's in pretty rough shape."
"Alright. L/N out," You signed off. You started to grab emergency supplies and sent the emergency team down to the transporter room. Just like Scotty said, McCoy was in critical condition by the time you saw him. He was completely unconscious, had multiple broken ribs, a broken right arm, a fractured left leg, and a concussion. After about 3 hours in surgery, he was finally patched up. You looked at the chronometer and saw it was about 3 in the afternoon. Deciding that you needed to talk to him as soon as he woke, you opted to sit guard on a chair next to his bed.
"Doctor L/N?" A nurse called out. You opened your eyes with a start. Looking at the chronometer again you realized another 4 hours had passed.
"Has he woken up?" The nurse nodded. "Well why didn't you wake me?" You whisper yelled, not wanting to wake him now.
"For the same reason you're whispering now. He didn't want to wake you." You shook your head and looked back at him sleeping on the biobed. "His vitals are good and he will likely make a full recovery in about a week."
"Oh no! This doctor is getting a prescription for some real R&R for at least a month. He's been far too overworked." You immediately grabbed the PADD with his chart information and put him on medical leave for a month. The nurse smiled at you and shook her head.
"You know, you're technically off duty now. You can head back to your quarters."
"I think I'll stay here a bit longer," You said slowly, a blush rising to your cheeks.
"I thought so," She nodded. You settled back down in the chair and got a bit more paperwork done on your PADD. Looking at the chronometer again you saw it just turned to 7:33pm. You heard a groan from the bed and saw the Doctor waking up.
"Well hello there, darlin'," He smirked.
"Hello, Dr. McCoy," You smiled.
"Oh for Pete's sake, would you please just call me Leonard!"
"I'll consider it," You grinned. You stared at him for a moment, realizing again just how scared you had been.
"You alright, Y/N?"
"I was just so scared, Leonard," You admitted. "I wasn't sure if I'd ever be able to tell you-" you stopped mid-sentence, nervous to continue.
"Tell me what?" You decided to chance it so you bent over and gave him a quick kiss. Standing up quickly, you looked away embarrassed. "Well, I'm not sure I understood. Can I hear that again?" He smirked. You smiled and leaned forward again for another kiss. You vaguely heard the doors open but neither you nor Leonard paid attention.
"So, any plans for your 3 days vacation, Spock?"

- To say you were scared when you were first assigned to the Enterprise was an understatement. You were terrified.
- You were only learning, having no residency under your belt, and to be put on the Enterprise?? You were worried that they had made a mistake.
- But you were assigned nonetheless, and spent most of your orientation sitting in a quiet corner, watching. The hustle and bustle of the Enterprise was nothing like you had ever seen. And although it was arguably the most prestigious ship you could be placed on, everyone was incredibly nice (albeit a bit distracted by work). It felt like a family.
- After your orientation with all of the other new people, you were ferried to medbay by Spock to meet your new CO. Spock practically vanished once you arrived, and you were left alone, staring at the massive glass double doors.
- You watched for awhile, seeing how the nurses and doctors moved around in harmony. They were organizing and setting up for this next mission, chatting and sorting and cleaning. One of them wasn’t chatting, however, and you recognized him immediately: Dr. Leonard McCoy.
- Almost like you had spoken his name, he turned, and looked you dead in the eyes. There was a disgruntled expression on his face. Had you done something wrong?
“Who left the intern outside!?” He asked — practically yelled — and all eyes turned to you.
Shrugs were exchanged. A couple nurses and one of the other doctors smiled and waved. You felt your stomach flip inside of you.
- Dr. McCoy essentially drags you inside, muttering something about a “damn green-blooded hobgoblin”, and you’re now in the midst of the extremely talented medbay team. McCoy stops in his tracks.
“This is M’Benga,” he says matter-of-factly, pointing to one of the doctors.  He introduces each of the staff to you in much of the same way. They all seem unperturbed by his gruffness, so you relax a little.
- Your CO puts you right to work immediately. Very little introduction, and no inspirational speeches like the ones you had been hearing since the Academy. Nope, this was just straight into the thick of it.
- You start by rolling bandages and cleaning scalpels, and normally you’d feel a bit diminished by that, but all of the other nurses and doctors are also doing the menial jobs, too. And they’re treating it like a potluck, laughing and talking and enjoying themselves.
One of the nurses turns to you.
“Dr. McCoy makes us clean and organize everything ourselves before and after every mission. He says it’s because we need to develop responsibility for everything we do here, but I think it’s just because he doesn’t trust the cleaning crew.”
- Needless to say, you get along really well with the rest of the staff. Dr. McCoy is a bit gruff, but he’s a good instructor. You spend most of your time learning about trauma wounds by practicing on the Captain (who was intimidating for all of about five seconds, before he started whining and McCoy started yelling) and really enjoy your work.
- However, most of what you do is watch and fetch instruments. It gets tiring after about six months.
- So, after one particular away mission, while there’s an influx in patients, you march up to Dr. McCoy.
“I think I could be doing more.”
He purses his lips.
“Okay. Take that guy over there.”
He hands you a clipboard and walks off.
You had a whole speech prepared, but apparently, the doctor trusts you.
- From then on out, you got to assist in major surgeries, and heard a lot of first-hand advice from Dr. McCoy. He begins to take you under his wing the more you help out, and encourages you to participate more in surgeries. You aren’t really sure why, since he has a team full of nurses and doctors that are all exceptional, but you can’t complain.
- Being the doctor’s protege has its flip side, though. A lot is expected of you. You often work extra hours, and are asked to do things that are well above your experience level.  You did go to Dr. McCoy’s office once to tell him you weren’t sure you were ready for the exposure you were getting, and he would hear none of it.
“I believe in you,” he said, and then shut the door. Discussion over, apparently.
- All together, you really do love working on the Enterprise. You get so many experiences here that you would’t have anywhere else.
So, when Dr. McCoy puts in a good word (without your knowledge), and you are offered a job at one of the premier hospitals in Starfleet, you say no.
The doctor is infuriated at first, claiming that you’re throwing away your potential.
But you tell him that you feel you have so much more to learn, and you’d really rather be here….
He doesn’t like it. But he does like having you working for him. So he doesn’t complain anymore.
And you’ll never know what it does to the doctor to know that his intern wants to stay. You’re like a daughter to him, and he was kinda hoping you’d say no to the job offer anyway.
It’s true, after all. You’d really rather be here.

Drop Down - James T. Kirk x Nurse!Reader (AOS) (Part 7)
Tumblr media
warnings: none
a/n: this is really short, I’m sorry lol, it’s because I had this other storyline I didn’t know what to do with so I went with this lmao.
As soon as The Enterprise docked, there was almost an explosion of excitement in the crew and command as you all moved off of the ship.
You saw Jim from the floods of people and kept your eye on him, once you got out, you ran over to him and hugged him tightly.
“Woah-!” He went, drawn out of his own thoughts, he then turned around to face you and offered you a warm smile, “Hey, babe.”
You smiled back, “Hey, Jim, I know you have meetings and all of that... stuff, but what time were you thinking for tonight?”
“I’ll just message you on your communicator, just go and have fun, have enough fun for me too,” He laughs, “Because these command meetings are not going to be.”
You laugh with him a small bit, before pushing back his hair and standing on your toes to give him a small kiss on the forehead.
“I’ll see you tonight then, babe.” He says with a smile, before walking in to a tall, serious looking building with Spock.
You stood there in front of that building, a small extra dose of excitement bubbled, heavy in your chest.
You were finally gonna get that date.

Commodore
Tumblr media
Words: 465
Pairing: Scotty x Reader
A/N: A lil something cute with Scotty
______________________
The whole crew sat in excitement and anticipation as the Shuttle landed on Earth. The Enterprise had docked and was scheduled to have a full re-fit and repair.
You stood, PADD in hand as you waited for the shuttle with the crew to land. It didn’t take long before it came into view and beaming faces were soon leaving the shuttle “Welcome Captain Kirk, Welcome crew.” you peered over to Scotty and smiled before looking down at you PADD.
“Commodore how are you?” Kirk asked, taking a step towards you.
“I’m even better now that you’ve all landed safe.” you paused briefly “If you’d all follow me I’ll take you to the meeting room for your group de-briefing.”
“Anything you say Commodore. I must say, you’re looking radiant as ever.” Kirk commented
“Thank you Captain.”
“How’s life been? I seem to remember that you didn’t see us off last time.”
“Life has been eventful since we last spoke.”
“Really? Maybe we should get a coffee together to talk about it.”
“I don’t think that’d be appropriate.” you smiled to yourself and sped up quickly as Scotty fell into step beside you.
“How’re you Lass?”
“I’m perfect. How’re you?”
“Couldn’t be happier”
The two of you walked in silence both smiling and stealing glances. Scotty gently slipped his hand into yours and held your hand. He gently stroked your hand with his thumb and squeezed, just happy to be with you again. “Wait a second. Scotty!” Kirk shouted
“What is it Sir?” Scotty said stopping and turning around, the rest of the crowd also did the same.
“Care to explain?”
“Explain what?” he replied and you smiled, continuing to hold the man's hand. Kirk was speechless as he gestured between the two of you. “You want me to explain why I’m holding my wife’s hand is it?”
He stood mouth agape as Scotty reached into his pocket and slid his wedding ring on and you pulled the necklace chain with your wedding ring on from beneath your uniform.
“I didn’t see the ship off last time but Scotty didn’t leave with the rest of you either if you remember. We were getting married. It’s now Commodore Scott to you Captain Kirk ” you quipped raising an eyebrow.
The crowd cheered  and rushed up to the two of you, hugging and congratulating the both of you. Eventually Kirk came to the front and shook both of your hands “I really am happy for the both of you.”
“You best be Sir. Y/N is going to be joining us for some time.”
“Is this true?”
“It certainly is. I’ll be joining the ship next flight.”
“Well welcome to the team Commodore Scott.”
You smiled at Scotty and closed the gap between the two of you for a kiss.

Two Ships Passing in the Night {6}
Part 6
Series Masterlist
Spock x fem!Reader then Bones x fem!Reader
AOS
Summary: Aftermath of Spock’s Letter, the boys’ conversation, and Jim Kirk meddling.
A/N: No, I did not project my avoidance issues in this chapter, why would you say that? I’ve been struggling with this part, I have parts that are very far in the future written out, but it’s taken me a while to get this part to a place where I’m happy with it. Not sure when the next update will be, but hope you enjoy this!
Warnings: Alcohol, Pregnancy Mentions, Angst(?), Leonard McCoy is cranky, Meddling Jim Kirk.
Word Count: 1,819
You stared at the notification on the PADD, mind racing. You had just learned the gender of the baby, you were excited, it was a boy. You had never really seen yourself becoming a mother, your sights had been set on being a captain, maybe even an admiral. And now here you were, a captain who was going to be a mother. No doubt Starfleet would use you as promotional material. Look ladies, you can have it all, or some similar slogan. But nonetheless you found yourself excited. And now Spock had sent a message, the timing was unsettling, which was why you left it unread for the week. Perhaps it was immature, maybe as captain you could have at least read it. But he had taken his sweet time saying anything to you. For all you knew it was just updates on the planets that you would be encountering.
Today you decided, you were reading that damn message. So you sat on your bed and opened the message. Your hand rested on your stomach as you read through Spock’s words. You knew he had been struggling with the loss of his mother, but you hadn’t realized how much, or how much he struggled with his own identity. You finished reading the message and felt a tear run down your face. “Dumb hormones.” You muttered into your empty quarters.
In your entire life you had not thought much about children, about becoming a mother. Your desire had always been to be among the stars, but here you were, among the stars and pregnant. That’s not to say that you had never thought about it. At one point you had thought about it, the whole thing, marriage, white picket fence, two kids, and a golden retriever. That was not the path that you had followed. Thinking back on the ideas you had at that time made you chuckle when you imagined Spock as the father with the two house garage, complete with the ‘Kiss the Cook’ apron for grilling.
Spock was far from the most emotive person you had ever met, but every now and then another side of him came out, and that’s why a part of you had fallen in love with him. There was nothing perfect about the relationship you had with Spock, but for a moment you had felt that there was something there. His message cemented that there was nothing there between the two of you, well, aside from a child. You worried, a child benefited from having a father, and it wasn’t like you had any prospects for that. Families had raised children in unconventional situations and ways, but space ships provided an interesting set of challenges. Your realistic and optimistic sides were at odds. Maybe somehow you and Spock would be able to work things out in a way that would provide your child with a meaningful relationship with both parents. You struggled as you continued thinking about his words. He had been born of two worlds, your child even less than he. You hadn’t spent much time thinking about the toll that would have taken on him being raised on Vulcan, but what kind of life would it be for a child on Earth, or at least surrounded by children of Earth?
Days and nights passed, and you still found yourself unable to respond to Spock. You stared into space from the bridge of the ship, it was quiet, except for the beeping of monitors and machinery. Your mind wandered to the final lines of Spock’s message, he loves you more than I ever could. In theory, there would be two men aboard the Enterprise that this sentence could be referring to, but you knew that the reality was that there was only one of that duo that it could be. Vulcan logic would dictate that one would contact the one you believed to have feelings for you. Or perhaps you would respond to the person who insinuated feelings were present. Unfortunately, you were not Vulcan, their logic did not apply to you. So, you began typing on your PADD to Jim.
Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy was known by the crew of the Enterprise for being grouchy. A good doctor, but grouchy, the past two weeks had been no exception. Leonard was what most would describe as brooding, Nurse Chapel had even been so brave to say he was pouting, to his face. It did not go over well. After that incident, Jim decided it was time to intervene, while his friend was entitled to feelings and self expression, the crew was entitled to at the very least, a half decent bedside manner.
Jim wandered the halls to the medbay, wondering how he was going to approach his friend, especially after the message he had received from you. It was no secret that Leonard had been carrying a torch for you from the moment that he laid eyes on you, honestly Jim wondered how it had taken you so long to figure it out. He knew about the arrangement that you had with Spock long before Leonard, and that had put him in an awkward spot. And here he was again, in an awkward spot. Although, he would be lying if he said he wasn’t enjoying this, just a little bit. Leonard had been rather distant recently, spending nights in his office, even taking his meals there. Jim didn’t think he had seen him for at least a week. Jim also noticed that Spock was refusing to even contact the doctor via comms. Uhura was the main contact for the bridge to medical, which was the second item to address on Jim’s list for today. Jim wandered down to the medical wing, Chapel was sitting next to a bed, working on vitals.
“He’s in his office, and he is in another mood.” She said, her eyebrows raised, tone filled with snark.
“Thanks for the warning.” Jim responded, winking at her. She rolled her eyes and went back to work. Jim sighed, Leonard had been surly from the moment he met him, he could handle surly. He pushed open the door and found Leonard surrounded by PADDs, a full glass of water next to him, and dark circles under his eyes. Now tired Leonard who was hydrating with water and not alcohol, he was not so sure he could handle that.
“Captain, what do I owe the pleasure?” He asked, his tone sharp.
“Can’t I just come down and visit an old friend? He seems to be refusing to come to dinner with me, figured the least I could do was come to him.” Jim replied as he sat in the chair across from the doctor.
“Jim, as you can see, I’m surrounded by backed up paperwork. So just tell me what the hell you need.” The doctor said, sighing and sitting back in his chair to look at his younger friend sitting across from him. Leonard would never voice it, but he was always impressed at how Jim carried himself as captain, even at his age. But there was just enough asshole in the kid to keep him from being too amazed.
“Bones, I’ve had some complaints about your behavior.” Jim answered, giving his friend a moment to process this. “As Captain, I have to address it.”
“No shit, Sherlock. Got anything actually important for me or that’s all?” Leonard asked, scoffing. “You had me thinking it was something serious.”
“Bones this is serious, if you don’t turn this around, I’m going to have to give you a temporary relief of duty.” Jim snapped, turning off his friendly side and moving to captain mode.
Leonard’s eyebrows rose subtly, “I’ll work on it.” He grumbled.
“Bones, what is going on with you?” Jim asked, still confused as to why he was still being belligerent.
“Why don’t you ask the great green wonder man?” Leonard snapped back, instantly regretting it when Jim leaned forward.
“You two talked about her didn’t you?” Jim said, “That’s why you’ve been so off. I’m amazed I still have a Medical Officer and Second.”
Leonard pinched the bridge of his nose, there was no way he was getting his paperwork done today. “Yes, we had a conversation.”
“And….?” Jim asked, far to eager to get the play by play of the conversation.
“He knew, knows. And she didn’t tell me.” Leonard muttered, sadness in his eyes, “And he didn’t do anything, he just waltzed out of the hospital room like nothing happened. He has a child that is going to be born in this goddamn universe and he doesn’t care!” Leonard’s fist landed heavily on his desk, causing Jim to shift in his chair. “She’s out there and he doesn’t care. And she’s all alone on a whole other ship, it takes days to get a message back and forth. Sometimes even a week for updates. She could die in childbirth, Jim. And he’ll be halfway across the galaxy.”
Jim glanced up at his friend’s eyes. “He’ll be halfway across the galaxy, that’s true, are we going to talk about you? You’ll also be halfway across the galaxy.”
Air slipped out Leonard’s lips. “If something happens to her, I don’t know what I’ll do. She’s the only thing that has gotten me through these days.”
“What about the kid?” Jim asked, knowing he was pouring salt onto his friend’s already open wounds.
“Even though the kid is just half her, I care about it because he’s another piece of her.”
“Maybe you should tell her that.” Jim answered, a bit of a twinkle in his eyes.
“I don’t think ‘I love you, and I know you’re having another man’s child, but I’ll love the kid too’ is something you send over PADDs.” Leonard said wryly, taking a swig of water, which made Jim start to question if it was really water.
“Luckily, we happen to be meeting with the Defiance in a month. So you can say it to her face.” Jim said standing, “Now start being nice to my crew members and stop being such a lovesick asshole.”
One month, he was going to see you in one month. Leonard’s heart started beating fast in his chest. “How exactly did you manage this?”
“Well, both crews really needed some time off, some shore leave. I sent her details to a planet that is part of the Federation and perfect for some down time.” Jim answered with a wink. “Saving the Federation’s ass has some perks.”
Jim made his way out of the medbay, a bit of a skip in his step. Perhaps as a captain, he shouldn’t meddle in other people’s affairs, but if he didn’t, that would make for a dull workday. Jim made his way back to his quarters and opened his PADD and typed a message back to you.
You should talk to them, soon.

Joana (Leonard McCoy x fem!reader)
Summary: you meet Leonard’s daughter for the first time and it wasn’t exactly how you imagined.
A/N: based on this request. I didn’t feel comfortable writing about Karl’s sons so I wrote for McCoy. In the original series, he had a daughter named Joana, so I added her to the AOS.
Wordcount: 859
Warnings: none
Tumblr media
You were woken from your light slumber by the doorbell. At first, you didn’t even recognize the sound because you had just arrived back on Earth after almost a year in a deep space mission and also Leonard’s bell has a different chime than your own.
“Len,” you grumbled, turning towards his side of the bed. “Someone’s at the door.” You patted the empty sheets, long cold, and realized the doctor was no longer in bed.
You faintly remembered him waking up at crack of dawn like the damn senior citizen that he was and saying something about grabbing groceries. Last night you two had been too exhausted after the long debrief session with Starfleet generals to think of anything else but falling in bed to sleep off the space jetlag.
The bell rang again and you dragged yourself off the bed, picking up the first garment you found to put it on before closing the distance to the front door and pulling it open as you yawned, eyes barely open.
“Sorry, I think I might have the wrong apartment,” the woman on the other side spoke.
You had heard Jocelyn’s voice often enough whenever Len called his daughter while the two of you were still in Enterprise to recognize it on the spot. You stood straight, suddenly very awake and way too aware of the fact you were standing there in only one of Len’s shirts, staring at his ex-wife and his eight-year-old daughter, Joana.
“No, uh…” you cleared your throat and rubbed your nape, offering an awkward smile. “You’re in the right place, Mrs. McCoy.”
“Treadway, actually,” she corrected, a flash of emotion that you couldn’t quite name going through her face as she looked at you up and down. You wondered if it was your state of undress or your age that bothered her. Probably both. “Where’s Leonard?”
“He went groceries shopping, I think,” you replied, glancing from Jocelyn to Joana.
You had seemed pictures of the girl before, but you didn’t think you fully realized how much she looked like her dad until that moment. It wasn’t just the raven hair, the hazel eyes, and the slight upturn of her lips. It was something deeper than that.
And as she stared at you with a deep frown – if of disapproval or something else you didn’t know – you finally fully understood why most of the Enterprise crew feared McCoy. You much rather face a whole battalion of Klingons than to stay here, but it wasn’t like you had a choice.
“Typical,” Jocelyn spoke under her breath, taking a quick look at her watch. “And I have a meeting in 20 minutes.”
She looked back to you as if considering if you were responsible enough to watch her daughter for the small-time it would take for Leonard to get back home. Fortunately, before you had to make the offer, the elevator’s doors slid open and Len stepped out, carrying two full paper bags.
“Daddy!” Joana shouted, rushing towards the man and hugging his legs.
“Hey, sweetheart!” he greeted her as well as he could considering the burden in his arms, his face opening up in a beaming grin that shaved off ten years from his face.
You had never seen him this happy and it warmed your heart. You found yourself relaxing and smiling wide too as father and daughter walked towards you and Jocelyn.
He was still paying attention to whatever Joana seemed to be blabbing to him, so it wasn’t until he was right in front of his ex that he noticed her displeased expression and crossed arms over her chest and you standing there almost naked.
“You said 9,” she spoke, her voice hard and cold and Leonard sighed, his smile slipping a little.
“I’m ten minutes late, Joice. It’s not the end of the world.”
“Why don’t I take these,” you said, grabbing the groceries and stepping inside the apartment. “Joana, can you help me put these away?”
“Maybe put on some pants while you at it,” Jocelyn called after you, her tone sweet like sugary venom and your smile looked more like a baring of teeth than anything else as you waited for Joana to cross the threshold before closing the door to give Len and his ex-wife a moment of privacy.
“Are you my dad’s new girlfriend?” Joana asked, plopping on the couch as you set the groceries down on the counter.
“Yeah,” you replied carefully, looking back as she assessed you, that same frown back on her face.
“You love him?”
The question took you off guard because it seemed a little too direct and mature for a girl this young but as you picked up the faint sounds of the argument going on outside, barely muffled by the door, you realized why.
“With all my heart,” you answered truthfully even if you hadn’t managed to say those words directly to Len just yet.
“Good,” Joana smiled at you, the same dimples her father had showing up in her face. “Now, you should really put on some pants.”
With a chuckle, you nodded and headed to the bedroom to comply.

Surprise Parties ~ A Star Trek Bingo fic
Star Trek Bingo prompt: Surprise Parties
Pairing: AOS!Pavel Chekov x reader (can be interpreted as both platonic or romantic!)
Word count: 722
Summary: You think everyone forgot about your birthday. That is, until Pavel proves you wrong.
Tumblr media
There are no secrets on a ship like the Enterprise. The crew definitely takes after it’s Captain: yes, they’re productive and professional, but they always make time to have fun and gossip. So, a thing like your birthday is very well-known fact by all the officers.
At least you thought so.
When your actual birthday came, everyone was silent. Your day went on as if it were normal. Sure, you weren’t expecting some kind of grandiose event organized for you, everyone treating you like a prince/princess, but you had hoped that people would come over and hug you, wish you a happy birthday.
Nothing. It was as if the day held no significance. You tried not to show your disappointment, thinking you were probably just overreacting. You counted the hours until your shift ended, time seemingly passing insanely slowly.
When it was finally 1600, you were relieved to beeline to your quarters, even avoiding the mess hall, regardless of how hungry you were. You jumped on your bed and buried your head in the pillows. Why is this happening to you? Do you really not have any friends among the crew? Even though you were trying your best, you couldn’t stop the tears welling up in your eyes. You let them stream down your face, hiding from the world.
Suddenly, you heard the door chime. For a second, you wanted to tell yourself not to open it, but you admitted it to yourself that you needed company.
“Come in.”
Ensign Chekov skipped through the door as it opened.
“Happy birthday!” He exclaimed cheerfully.
When he saw you, however, his happiness quickly turned into worry. He rushed over to you, placing a reassuring hand on you shoulder.
“Heeey… what’s wrong?” He asked after sitting down on your bed.
“Would you be surprised if I told you that you’re the first person to wish me happy birthday today?”
You proceeded to tell him about your day as he followed all your words intently. Even when your eyes trailed away, he was still staring at you, softly brushing away your tears with his thumb. When you were done with your story, he embraced you lovingly, which already made you feel a bit better.
“Have you had anything to eat?” He enquired.
“Actually, no.” You answered.
“Come on, let’s take a walk and stop by at the mess hall on the way back.”
He took you around the hallways of the ship, stopping at huge windows with nice views. Every breath you took was more and more calming.
Finally, you reached the mess hall. You were a bit anxious to enter, not knowing how you could handle people after what happened, which Pavel sensed. He grabbed your hand and nudged you encouragingly. Inside, you expected to see groups of people seated at various tables, some waiting in line at the replicators, the usual. However, that wasn’t the sight that greeted you this time.
When the doors opened, all of your friends were there, shouting “Surprise!” together. As you entered, a big birthday cake was wheeled out in front of you while the crew sang Happy Birthday. Overwhelmed with emotions, you weren’t even sure what was happening, how you were supposed to react. Everyone came over to you one by one to hug you, some even bringing you presents.
When you finally had a minute to breathe, Pavel made his way towards you.
“You did all of this? For me?” You asked, tears welling in your eyes again, this time in a good way.
“Yes, just for you.” He smiled.
You looked around. Everyone you wished would be there, was there. Almost all of the crew, except the poor people in Delta shift, who have to run the ship even while all the spotlight is on you. You focus on the faces that stand out the most: Doctor McCoy, Uhura, Sulu, Spock, your boss Scotty, even Captain Kirk. All of them are here to celebrate you. All because the person who means the most to you organized it. You look back towards the Ensign, your eyes meeting his.
“Thank you.” You said as you put your arms around his neck and hugged him.
“Anything for you.”
That day turned from the worst birthday to the best. And in that moment, you wished the hug would never end.

Tropetember Day 11 - Time Travel / Amnesia / Coma
Coma comma revelation
Pairing: James T Kirk x GN!Reader
Fandom: Star Trek AOS
Rating: General Audiences
TW: Coma, minor swear
AN: Day 11 of @tropetember. Sorry for the wait, life has been a bit mad. Not the best but hope you enjoy :)
The aftermath of an away mission gone wrong.
Find this story on Ao3 here.
Word Count: 1.3k
It wasn’t uncommon for members of an away crew to end up in the sickbay upon their return to the Enterprise. Injuries regularly ranged from small cuts and bruises to native diseases to broken bones. A visit to Dr McCoy was something all members of the crew had to mentally prepare before beaming down. What was uncommon was for people to be in the sickbay for longer than an overnight stay.
Spock and Kirk had both had a couple of longer stopovers following heroic (read: risky) actions. Dr McCoy dreaded either, or worse both of them, being there because they were both hard-headed and constantly tried to sign themselves out against medical advice. Luckily, this wasn’t something McCoy had to worry about with the current resident of the sickbay. What was happening was far more worrying. Because you had been in a coma for 4 days now and nobody had any clue as to what to do.
Running his hand down his face, Dr McCoy’s gaze remained laser focused on the most recent test results, trying to find an answer. Any answer. Even a clue. Nothing. There was nothing indicating why you weren’t waking up.
Sighing quietly to himself he got up and headed to your room, checking on the monitors. He hadn’t even realised anyone else was there until he turned to exit.
Stood leant against the wall next to the door, Captain James T Kirk stood like a sentry. His eyes watched everything in the room, in between regularly checking on you. The Doctor pressed a hand to his heart as he processed his surprise. Had Kirk not been wearing his yellow command shirt, chances are McCoy wouldn't have even noticed him with how still he was standing.
“Jim, you’re the Captain not a shadow” he observed, his normal gruffness softened slightly.
The gentle rebuke received no response from Kirk. He simply flicked his eyes from the body in the hospital bed to McCoy and back again.
It was clear to see that all was not right with the Captain. His uniform was creased, his eyes red. He looked like he hadn’t slept in days.
“Jim, you ok?”
A small sigh and a shake of the head is all he receives in response. McCoy props himself up against the wall next to him, a show of silent solidarity.
"They weren't even supposed to be there, Bones."
You'd opted to go on the away mission instead of Mr Spock to allow the Vulcan some time off from Kirk-sitting, and as part of your push to keep at least one of them on the ship at all times. "Cos, you know, regulations" was all you scoffed when someone pointed out that they'd both made a break for it onto some distant moon, leaving you as Lieutenant Commander in charge of the ship.
The additional position had been created to help support the demands of a 5 year mission on the crew as a whole. Given the Enterprise's tendency to have an engineering emergency in the middle of crisis, Mr Scott was often unable to support in the way the Chief Engineer may on other ships. You bridged the gap, allowing Kirk, Spock and Scotty to hand over some of their day-to-day responsibilities to focus on the extreme.
Though they had initially railed against it, they would all now agree that your presence had improved the efficiency of the ship. It also allowed them all some welcome downtime. The crew appreciated that more than they would ever admit in front of the higher-ups. Kirk in particular could get bitchy when he was tired.
Something that no one would have predicted about adding you to the crew, was the depth of the friendships you had formed with the command crew. In particular, you had developed a close friendship with the Captain, despite his initial wariness. You and Jim were regularly spotted in observation watching the stars float by whilst having a drink, or heading to each other's quarters with a holodisk in hand.
Jim, for his part, had been reluctant to get to know you. The Captain of a starship is supposed to be separate from the rest of their crew. But, as with the interpersonal relationships between the crew, the length of the mission had required these expectations be adjusted in the interest of crew morale.
The outcome of the slow blossoming relationship with you was something he had not predicted. Where he always felt responsible when crew were hurt, the shot of ice through his system when he saw you being stabbed with a syringe was much, much stronger. More importantly, his almost visceral reaction had been completely unexpected. He was the Captain, he had to look out for everyone. Yet, he spent every second of the day and night since returning to the Enterprise worrying about you.
Drawing himself back from his thoughts he glances to Bones, who is watching him with a combination of concern and soft understanding.
“We have the best people in the Federation working on this Jim.” He gently grasps Kirk’s upper arm. “They’ll be ok. You’ll get them back.” He pauses then, glancing between the two of them. “Then you can maybe have an honest conversation about the two of you.”
Kirk sharply glances at him over his shoulder before allowing his own shoulders to sag.
“I hadn’t even realised,” he quietly whispers, moving to the side of the bed. He takes your hand in his before sitting down next to the bed. “It’s not allowed, Bones.”
McCoy for his part just smiles at him.
“Never stopped you before”
That gets a small smile out of the Captain as he turns his eyes back to you. He’s so focused on you that he doesn’t even notice as Dr McCoy slips out to head to his office.
-----------
Waking up after being unconscious for an unknown amount of time is, in a word, disorienting. The sickbay lights are bright, your throat is dry and sore and your head feels like it’s stuffed with cotton wool.
It takes you a while to come to but you’re ever so grateful to hear Dr McCoy's southern drawl welcoming you back.
“There you are darlin’, you had us worried.”
You let him run all of his tests without complaint, using the time to orient yourself. It’s not until he’s nearly finished that you notice there’s someone else in the room. You throw Jim a small smile, followed by a grimace as McCoy hits you with a hypospray.
“That should be everything for the minute,” McCoy tells you. “We’re going to keep you in for observation for a few days but your recovery is going as well as we could have hoped.”
You smile in relief at that, and he tells you he’ll be back in a few minutes before he heads out of the room.
After taking a moment to shuffle yourself into a more comfortable position, you wave a hand at Jim to beckon him over. He takes a gentle hold of your hand as he moves closer. It fills you with warmth and you can’t help a small smile.
“Managed not to blow up the ship while I was out of commission then?” you tease, wanting the frown to disappear from his face. He shakes his head in response.
“I honestly don’t know. I haven’t really left this room.”
You glance at him surprised, and then see the soft expression on his face. Huh. You thought it was just you.
Taking the plunge, you gently tug at his hand until he slides into bed next to you, your head resting on his chest. The beat of his heart starts to lull you back to sleep.
It’s probably best to rest while you can, you decide. You’ve got a lot to talk about.

Dinner Date? (AOS Spock x Reader)
Tumblr media
A/N: I think this may just be a part one, I do want to continue the story but I was more eager to see if people were interested first. Also this is meant to be read with either a female, male, or non-binary reader! I have been wanting to do a Spock x Reader for awhile now, this is my first time writing one! Enjoy!
Summary: After being hospitalized (and passing out) in Sickbay from a dumb choice you made while on mission, you are surprised to find that Commander Spock had stayed by your side while you slept.
Word Count: 3,338
Warning: Swearing and a sarcastic Bones and cute moments
---
“Shit. Shit. Holy- FUCK!” Was all you could manage to say as a sharp pain twisted into your side. You were currently in Sickbay after having collapsed on the floor just outside of the bridge, nearby crewmen immediately rushed you to a not-so-happy Dr. McCoy.
“Damn it, man, I told you not to eat that planet’s weird berries!” McCoy said in a frustrated tone as he pulled out his scanner. “It’s only been what- two hours? And you are already showing symptoms of infection in your abdominal region that would usually take years to develop!”
“How can you be so sure…” You breathed, gripping at your stomach which started to cramp. “...that it was the berries?”
“Mm, I dunno (Y/N), maybe because of the fact that Jim and I had no berries whatsoever and we seem to be doing perfectly fine. It’s no coincidence, damn it!”
Nausea passed over your body in massive waves, you applied pressure via your fingertips between the two tendons on your wrist in an attempt to get the feeling to cease. You remembered seeing this technique in an article somewhere, but you were pretty sure that the article didn’t take into account your situation. “Well the natives said... that eating the berries was a sign of a... good spirit… a way to connect with them. It’s called respecting...tradition. Something you and the Captain… refused to do.” The fact that it was taking so much energy to construct sentences both amazed and horrified you.
“Maybe those berries weren’t meant for humans.” McCoy grunted, walking out your line of sight. “Just because you're some diplomat representing all of Starfleet doesn’t mean you have to go around eating weird foods for the sake of tradition.”
“Bones,” You declared. “I could really do without the lecture right now.” You only felt worse the longer you laid there, your forehead broke out into a sweat and your face grew hot. You pictured McCoy getting his instruments together from the sound of metal clinking against metal, at least that is what you hoped he was doing.
“Alright! Alright, hold on…” He said, fumbling with what sounded like a plastic bag. “Damn... what would that green-blooded hobgoblin think of this?”
“You mean Commander Spock?” You asked, even though you understood what he meant. “What does he have to do with-” a sharp sting entered the side of your arm as your asshole-of-a-friend, and trusted doctor, injected you with a large syringe. “-Oh, what the hell was that?!”
“That-” McCoy said, holding up the syringe defiantly, “-just saved your life. Well, maybe. Give it an hour or two, your fever should already be going down. The pain will subside in no time.”
“Jesus, Bones, you could have at least warned me before stabbing my arm!"
“Well it’s not supposed to hurt so much without a warning.” You heard him say, but you were more focused on the white walls within the Sickbay, which were beginning to blur into everything else until it became one muddy display. It made your eyelids feel heavy.
“Everything is so abstract looking…” You said half-consciously, watching as different colors danced in front of your vision.
“Well I’m no Picasso, much less a painter,” You heard him say, or maybe you just imagined it. It didn’t matter though, seeing as all the sounds and sights were becoming one big jumble. It didn’t stay this way for long before everything went completely black.
You have been abroad upon the Enterprise for almost a year now, part of its five-year intergalactic planetary voyage. As a Starfleet diplomat, you were stationed on the bridge and tasked with regulating Starfleet protocol and managing peace-treaties and negotiations. Through this job, you befriended many on the Enterprise, especially those stationed on the bridge with you. You were quick to become friends with the notorious (or so he thought) Captain Kirk, as well as others like Lieutenant Uhura and the pilots, Mr. Sulu and Chekhov. There were even people beyond the bridge like Mr. Scotty down in Engineering who you managed to get well acquainted with. You were simply amazed by all these different and infatuating personalities you had come to know, but there was one person- or rather, an alien- who you had come to admire the most aboard your time here.
Commander Spock.
You were only to report on the bridge three days out of the week, the rest of your time was spent helping to ease the tension between antsy crewmen who were getting themselves into disputes and fistfights (even though it was not in your pay grade, and was sure as hell not part of your job description either) and even assisting the Chief Officers in preparation for meetings in the department they resided over (which was part of your pay grade).
It was a small attraction… at first.
The Enterprise was only four months into its five-year voyage whenever the Captain tasked you to assist in preparing and partaking in an introductory meeting (really it was more of a banquet) for the Science Department. The last two months had already taken up your time with meetings (*banquets) in other departments: speaking on behalf of Starfleet, introducing yourself to the staff and crew, helping them adjust to life aboard a starship, answering to millions upon millions questions and concerns. Today would be no different, or so you thought.
You entered the science lab with a clipboard full of notes you were preparing to say in your speech. Contrary to others’ belief, you never used the same speech twice, you took too much pride in your work to do so- except for those few rush jobs where the only thing you managed to have on hand was a speech about how cute yet terrifying Tribbles were. The memory of all those confused faces in the crowd during a Starfleet conference still haunted you to this day. The Admiral was to say, in the very least, displeased.
Awaiting by a table of fliers was the Enterprise’s chief science officer. His back had been turned to you when you entered the lab, and he was still unaware of your presence as you drew closer to him.
“Commander.” you greeted, yet received no reply. That was odd, with you being the only other person in the laboratory besides him, he had to have heard you. Maybe you just weren’t being loud enough. Determined, you took another step closer. “Commander!”
Still, no reply. By now you managed to get close enough to see his face, and you were rather more perplexed to see that his eyes were closed. Odd. You weren’t well educated enough about Vulcans to know if this was some ritualistic standing sleep-like state they put themselves in, but it reminded you of a similar nature that some of the Terran animals back home displayed.
“Just like a horse…” You murmured, before slowly reaching up to touch the Vulcan’s face. You hadn’t realized how close you had gotten to him. He stood there perfectly, his face was so mellow, so clear of emotion, he almost looked like some sort of statue…
A hand caught your wrist before a finger could even graze his cheek, a shock ran through your body, it scared the shit out of you. “What is like a horse?” Commander Spock asked, staring down at you with his full, dark eyes.
You quickly (and embarrassingly) pulled your hand away from his grip, holding it protectively close over your hammering heart. “C-Commander Spock, I-I thought you were asleep!”
“I was not sleeping.” He responded in a calm tone. He straightened his posture and placed his hands behind his back.  “I was meditating.”
“Nervous?” You asked half-jokingly. “The whole department is going to be here tonight, things can go wrong, but it will be alright.” It was apparent you were saying this more for your own benefit rather than his.
“I find it illogical to be nervous.”
“And why is that?”
“Based on what I could gather from your involvement in past assignments, Lieutenant. I trust you are more than qualified to execute this meeting successfully.” He replied with a small smile.
You felt your heart swell at the praise, and you smiled right back.
After that day, you and Commander Spock maintained a mutual friendship: greeting one another with a nod or smile as you passed by in the hallways or having small (but quite educational on your part) talks while riding the lift, it never went beyond that, but you didn’t mind. You felt like your growing attraction for him had to be limited in some way, seeing as his thoughts on you are nothing but platonic.
...Lieutenant?
Lieutenant (L/N)? Can you hear me?
You felt a rough shake of your shoulders, pulling you straight out of the darkness in a start.
“Doctor, I believe that was an unnecessary course of action. The Lieutenant was already waking up.” A familiar voice said.
“You’re overreacting, Spock. (Y/N) needed a jumpstart.” Another voice responded.
You looked around the room quickly, watching as the blurred figures started to take appropriate shape and form. It was Dr. McCoy and Commander Spock, both peering down at you. Immediately, McCoy started to check your vitals asking you clipboard questions like: How are you feeling? Is there any pain when I do this? Commander Spock on the other hand stood idly by with his hands behind his back, his face could be read as stoic if it weren’t for the fact that his eyebrows were furrowed. It actually surprised you to see him here, but you had a feeling that it had to do with the details of your mission.
"Oh man…" you grunted as you sat up slowly. "How long was I out for?"
"Approximately for five hours and twenty-one minutes." Spock responded.
"Yeah, because (Y/N) was so worried about the exact number of minutes they missed." McCoy said with a loose smile, despite the gruff tone in his voice.
"I may not be well acquainted in human social cues, Doctor-" Spock said, turning his gaze on McCoy, "-But I believe you are using sarcasm. In your case, this would not be uncommon."
"Well good job, Sherlock. Seems you cracked the case!" McCoy said with false praise.
Spock went to open his mouth, you could tell he wanted clarification by the way his gaze narrowed, but instead, he diverted his attention back onto you. "How are you feeling, Lieutenant?"
It was a question that surprised both you and the doctor (or maybe he always looked that confused). “I feel fine-” You said abruptly, “Well, at least I think I do. Am I, Bones?” You nervously looked over to your friend.
“Yeah, you’re fine.” McCoy responded, waving his hand casually. “All we had to do was pump your system full of antibodies and just like that, infection was gone. Thank God we aren’t living in the Dark Ages.”
The Commander approached your bedside. “It seems the berries initiated a rapid case of abdominal infection known to your species as colonic diverticulitis. It’s quickening effects seem to have caused a trauma in your nerves, specifically your sensory nerves, leading them to send incorrect signals. Which explains your disassociation with reality.”
“Alright, Mr. Know-it-all, I’m the doctor here.” McCoy said with a grumble, before addressing you. “It just means those berries infected your bowels and started blending your five senses together like one big smoothie.”
“That is rather an inaccurate description, but yes, the Doctor is somewhat correct.” A slight grimace was in Spock’s voice, causing you to smile. The two always had differentiating opinions. Watching them react to one another like highly-active mind fields was quite entertaining.
McCoy only shook his head in irritation, “Which means, (Y/N), no more eating any foreign soul-binding berries, you hear? I mean it.” He was now targeting you, which was not so entertaining.
“Okay. Okay.” You held up your hands in defeat. “I solemnly promise to never eat any foreign soul-binding berries, again.”
“Yeah, well let’s see how long that promise lasts.” He crossed his arms, before a faint smirk appeared on his face. “You know Pointy-Ears here-” he said gesturing to the Commander. “-was worried sick about you. Got here as soon as you passed out, didn’t even leave your side when writing his report to command.”
You felt your face grow hot at the news. He waited here for you? He wasn’t in the landing party with you when you beamed down onto that planet… you didn’t know how to take this news. But knowing you, you must have been overthinking it, he was just being friendly after all. Still, you had to force yourself not to cover your face in shame as you knew it was red with embarrassment. You didn’t want your friend (and doctor) or the Vulcan you had come to like so much see your flustered expression.
“I was merely concerned with the Lieutenant’s well-being, as (L/N)’s superior, I saw it only fitting to stay by their side until they got better.” You heard him say.
When you felt confident enough to look up from your bed sheets you were surprised to see Spock staring straight at you.
“Uh huh…and I’m the king of Mars.” McCoy sarcastically said with a taunting smile that you wish you could smack off his face. He probably didn’t even know what he was embarrassing you by doing this.
“Doctor, the United Martian Colonies is governed by a uniglobal government, it does not have an establish monarchy-”
“How about I get a drink, and you finish that thought later. Alright, Spock?” Bones interjected with eagerness. “(Y/N), you’re free to leave whenever. From your head to your toes, you are medically sound.”
“Thanks to you, Bones.” You replied.
“Please, it’s only my life’s work.” He said, waving his PADD up in the air knowingly. “And if you need me, which you better not, I’ll be in the bar- drinking the day away.” With that, he disappeared out the door.
You turned your attention over to Spock, who had his gaze on the door. You decided it would be best to head out as well, seeing as you couldn’t control your heartbeat, you were sure you looked like a tomato with how frequently your face was turning red. "Well I guess I’m free to leave since my doctor suggested so." You say in a means of farewell.
The bed's mattress shifted under your weight as you slowly began to peel yourself off from it, it took awhile, seeing as the way you had been laying on it for the past five hours made you stiff,
"I have to agree with the Doctor's earlier statement." Spock said, grabbing your attention. "Your actions were reckless and could have been fatal if it were not for him."
"Understood, Commander.” You responded formally as you pulled on your yellow blazer over your tank top. You felt somewhat dejected, but shook that feeling away. He was concerned because he was your commanding officer. That gesture alone should have been satisfying enough.
“I typed up a mission report and sent it to Command, they requested that you send in a report as well.”
“Thank you, Commander.” You replied, grabbing your Command insignia off of the end table before reattaching it to your uniform. “Have the natives of the planet decided whether or not to join the Federation?”
“I’m afraid I do not know. I was... preoccupied at the time.”
He must have been talking about the report. Thinking about it now, it would be best to complete yours now while it was still fresh on your mind. It was only fair to your Commander that you got it done as soon as possible.
“Well I better head-” You started.
“Lieutenant, I was wondering-” Spock also initiated taking another step forward.
The sound of the entry door sliding open stopped you both, it was Captain Kirk.
“I heard what had happened and the natives promised-” Kirk announced as he casually walked into Sickbay. “-they did not know it was potentially fatal to us and assured- am I interrupting something here?” His nonchalant attitude formed into a more devious one as he looked between the two of you.
“Uh, no, you aren’t.” You said quickly. “What did they say?”
Kirk smirked, briefly shrugging his shoulders, before continuing on. “Well everything is all good now. Just about an hour after you were admitted into Sickbay, the natives agreed to join the Federation. Took awhile for them to decide. They sent gifts of apology to you, I had them sent to your room. Of course, if I had known that I would be receiving gifts, I would have eaten some berries too.” He said with a chuckle.
“Captain, that would be highly illogical seeing as the same berries led to the incapacitation of Lieutenant (L/N).” Spock noted matter-of-factly, making you smile a bit. It was well-known that as a Vulcan, his mind-set followed logic to its core, however you couldn’t help but interpret his words as being thoughtful. Or maybe, you were just projecting that into his words.
“And that is why I am in debt to our wonderful Lieutenant, here.” Kirk said with a dramatic bow. “Without (Y/N), the Federation would not have gained a whole planet as its ally today.” You couldn’t help but laugh as you watched your Captain move across the room like some Shakespearean actor (like running on his tippy-toes and bowing), you decided to play along and twirl dramatically over to him before kissing him on the cheek as though his words just meant the world to you. The scene itself caused an eyebrow-raised look from a clearly confused Spock, the expression alone made you two laugh.
“Am I missing something here?” Spock asked, looking between the two of you.
“Nope.” Kirk responded, lazily putting his arm around the Vulcan’s shoulder, “But you know what you are missing? A nice, hot meal. After such a long day, you two deserve a treat. Go grab something in the mess hall together, Captain’s orders.” He finished with a smirk, making your stomach turn. Why would he say it like that? ...Did he know you liked the Commander? But that would be impossible! You never even mentioned to anyone how you felt about Spock… Were you that obvious?
Before you could open your mouth to say anything, you saw that your Captain was already leaving the room. He turned around briefly and gave two thumbs up and an encouraging nod in your direction, but to your surprise the gesture wasn’t aimed at you, but rather.... at the Commander.
You heard a throat clear beside you and turned to see that Spock was looking you in the eyes. Like, really looking at you.
“Lieutenant...” The way his voice wavered suggested… nervousness. He knitted his eyebrows together and his posture became much more stiff, confirming your suspicions. “...do I have your permission to address you by your first name?”
You felt your cheeks burn again at his request. “You do.” Immediately his body relaxed. “May I, in turn, address you as Spock?”
“Certainly, (Y/N).” He said smoothly, you could tell he was testing out your name. You liked it.
You felt a nervousness build up within you, unsure where this conversation was leading to until Spock spoke up again.
“I would like to request your presence tonight in the mess hall for social engagement and dinner.”
And with that your heart was blown ten thousand light-years away.
“You sure our lovely Captain didn’t bribe you to say that?” You asked half-jokingly, trying not to sound like you were just melted away.
“I do not need persuasion with money or gifts to spend an evening with you.”
How he could say such things without becoming a puddle of embarrassment amazed you. You felt giddy as a warm smile spread across your lips. “Then yes, I would love to have dinner with you.”
“I’ll come by your quarters at eight.” He stated, smiling down at you.
“I’ll be waiting.”
