"Yes," Araminta replied. "I know. I hated that, too."

He acted as if he actually liked her and enjoyed her company. And maybe he did. But that was the cruelest twist of all, because he was making her love him, making a small part of her think she had the right to dream about him.
And then, inevitably, she had to remind herself of the truth of the situation, and it hurt so damned much.

As much as I want to see flashbacks of all Sophie suffered under Richard, Araminta and others, I also want to see happy moments. Sophie's life was shitty, but no one is miserable 24/7 or happy.
I want to see the maids and footmen chasing her, looking for her all over Penwood house because she's too good at hide and seek.
I want to see the cook making all these chocolate cakes for her and Sophie sitting on the table with her hands covered in cream.
I want to see her governess congratulating her for being so good at math and French.
I want Mrs. Gibbons to read her stories for bedtime.
I want the servants to plan birthday parties for her.
I genuinely believe they did all of these things and more. They loved her, they wanted her to be the daughter of the house. They saved her life!!!!
I would love to see the servants having inappropriate conversations or language and Mr. Rumsey silencing them because Sophie is present and even though Araminta says she's a maid, they need to be mindful of her.
I bet Mrs. Gibbons and the maids tried to help her but Araminta threatened them with unemployment or more work. Eventually, Sophie asked them to let her do the chores because it would only get worse.
I would also love to see her having a friendship with the other maids at Cavender's house. And of course, I want to see her being friends with the servants at Bridgerton house. The way I need her to be friends with Benedict's valet!
I'll probably not get either of these, maybe a tiny scene? I just want the show to make clear that Sophie experienced kindness. Unfortunately, the people in power were the ones who humiliated her. The Bridgertons were the first family in the ton that treated her kindly, but most of the servants had always been good to her.
Of course, I also want drama downstairs. The Bridgerton's butler did not like her in the books, and I bet a couple of maids and footmen refused to serve her when she became Benedict's wife. But for the most part, servants treated her much kinder than the ton.

Benedict: *hits his head on a branch while trekking through the woods*
Sophie: Oh God! Are you alright, Ben? Are you hurt?
Benedict, pleased at the attention: My head hurts a LOT!
Sophie, gives a kiss on his "wound": Do you feel better now?
Benedict, blushing: Yeah. It feels tons better already.
Anthony, watching the exchange: *hits himself with the Pall Mall stick deliberately*
Kate, rolls her eyes at him: Please! Don't try to break your Pall Mall stick. I am not giving you MY Mallet of Death!
Anthony massages his head, pouting!

"Now then, I'm going to leave. And you have only one task while I go. You will stay right here, and you will keep smiling. Because it breaks my heart to see any other expression on your face."
"You won't be able to see me," she pointed out.
He touched her chin. "I'll know." And then, before her expression could change from that enchanting combination of shock and adoration, he left.

What if My Cottage was Edmund and Violet's first home? A backstory for My Cottage and how it changed after Benedict met Sophie. Based on this (x) headcanon.
1795
Ten-year-old Benedict Bridgerton stood at the front entrance of his house. He turned to look at it once again. Was it his house still?
“Are we not coming back, mama?” Benedict asked as the servants finished putting everything on the carriages.
“We will live in Aubrey Hall from now on, sweetheart. Your grandfather needs help and it’s your father’s responsibility to do it.” Violet said sweetly. “You like Aubrey Hall, don’t you?”
The little boy nodded eagerly. Aubrey Hall was huge, with lots of places to hide and run. And with the Rokesbys so close, they had tons of playmates. Plus, his grandparents were there. He enjoyed spending time with Grandma Alexandra. She always encouraged him to draw with her. And then she embroidered his designs. There was no reason for him to be sad.
Except that he liked his current home. It wasn’t as big as Aubrey Hall, but he liked his room and the big windows of the library. The staff was also fun, or at least he always had fun running around with them. Mr. Crabtree always let them lay with dirt and Mrs. Crabtree made the best eggs. Other members of the staff came and went, but they always stayed. He will miss them. At least, Mr. Rogers (his tutor) was going with them.
“Everything’s ready, my love?” Edmund’s voice came from behind. Both Violet and Benedict turned around.
“It seems so…” Violet started laughing when she saw him.
“I just found these munchkins running around in the house,” Edmund joked as he held Colin from the feet, and carried Daphne with his other arm, both children laughing hysterically. “Should we bring them with us?”
“Papa!” Colin called him.
“You’ll be traveling with Mrs. Edwards. Go inside the carriage!” Edmund set them down and the children run to their nanny.
“Everything is alright, son?” Edmund asked Benedict, who nodded. “Go with your brother.”
“I think he’s going to miss this house,” Violet said once Benedict was gone.
1803
Benedict looked at himself in the mirror. The last month had been a whirlwind of emotions. His father had died, just like that. He was picking flowers in the garden with Eloise when a bee stung him and he died. He didn’t even get to say goodbye.
He had gone riding with Anthony. He would have won the race, but suddenly, out of nowhere, he felt a tingling sensation and his entire body went numb. He felt an urge to leave. Anthony passed by and celebrated his victory. When Benedict said he wanted to go back, Anthony assumed he was a sore loser. But then they arrived and everything changed. Anthony entered first to their parents’ bedroom where his father lay on the bed, while his mother sat next to him. Benedict had to tend to the horses first for losing a bet. He saw his father for a few minutes before going to the children in the nursery.
Three weeks later her mother gave birth to his baby sister, Hyacinth.
And now Anthony, Violet, and he prepared themselves for the reading of his father’s will. Anthony said he was fine waiting. Everyone knew what the will was going to say. Anthony will inherit the title, money, and properties. Benedict, Colin, and Gregory will receive a generous income yearly. The girls will all have respectable dowries, Edmund had already foresaw the possibility of having another girl. Hyacinth was safe too. However, Violet insisted. The birth had gone as quickly and easily as possible. She was ready, she needed the will to have closure.
They sat in from of their father’s desk, with Violet at the center.
To my son Benedict, I leave My Cottage.
Benedict, who had maintained his eyes set on the mahogany desk for the majority of the reading, looked up, first at the lawyer then at his mother and brother. Violet took his hand that laid on his leg.
As I know how special that house was for him and because I trust he will preserve its unique name.
Was that a joke? It made Benedict smile that his father could still retain his sense of humor even in such an important document.
It is my sincerest wish that this home fills with love and laughter as it once was when you were growing up.
“Are you alright with the will?” He asked Anthony once the lawyer left. Anthony looked at him confused. “My Cottage, I mean.”
“Of course. He told me years ago.”
“He did?”
“I think he wanted to tell you after you graduated from Cambridge. He knew you missed it. But he included it on the will just in case.”
Just in case , Benedict repeated in his head.
“I didn't even know he still had it.”
In the end, it was agreed that the property would continue under the care of the family estate. The steward would take care of everything while Anthony went to university. Benedict was only sixteen years old and still in Eton. After that, he needed to go to university.
May 1817
In all the years Benedict had had My Cottage, it had never felt more lively than now. Nothing had changed in years. The rooms look exactly the same. Most of them were only collecting dust. The gardens still had the rose bushes blooming. And the Crabtrees were still the only servants in the house. He was there for a few months every year and there was no need for more people when he brought his valet.
The only difference was Sophie.
Benedict had never brought anyone to My Cottage. When he took possession of the property, Violet came to see the house and greeted the Crabtrees, who were delighted in having Benedict as the master of the house. But he always imagined this was going to be the house he would share with his wife and kids. That’s what his father wanted for him. So far, he had only had casual relationships, mostly in London. And he would never consider marriage to him, or vice versa. So, he never brought any woman. He once dreamed of bringing the lady in silver and starting their family. But after two years of not finding her, his hopes were starting to vanish.
But now, Sophie was here. He did not plan it, but he could not leave her alone in an inn. Not after what she went through. Besides, he promised to find her employment at his mother’s house and he did not make promises lightly.
And if he was honest, he liked Sophie. They had spent several hours together every day and they had shared quite a lot about themselves. Well, he did. Sophie wanted to know more about the rock collection and his drawings. He had been happy to talk to her, which was odd but he felt too comfortable to deny her anything. And he had learned a lot about her, even if she wasn’t as open as him. She was terribly smart and funny. Their senses of humor were surprisingly compatible. She was sarcastic and witty when she wanted to be, and luckily she was loosening up as days went by. Plus, she had proven to be an excellent nurse, even if she claimed she had never done something like that. She was a hard worker, something Benedict always appreciated in people. He still had questions about her backstory. He did not believe the story of her mother’s mistress for a second. No woman is so kind as to let a servant’s daughter receive the same education as the daughters of the house. But he supposed he could let Sophie open up at her own pace.
In the meantime, her presence was enough.
June 1817
“Well, Mrs. Bridgerton. This is your new home.” Benedict helped his bride out of the carriage.
Sophie giggled and took in the view.
This was not the first time she was here. But it was not the same to arrive as a servant rescued from an abusive employer than as the lady of the house. She remembered when she first came, not the night of the storm, but the morning after. She had breakfast with Benedict, threw a candle stick at him, and made her way to the kitchen. Mrs. Crabtree assured her she had everything in control, so she walked a bit around the house. She was very curious about it. She wanted to know where Benedict lived. My Cottage fit him. And if she let herself daydream for a minute, she knew it fit her. A cozy house in the country had been her dream since she was a child.
She still did not know what lucky Star heard her because it had become reality. This was her home now, Benedict was her husband and their children were going to grow up here. Somehow My Cottage looked even more beautiful this time.
“Shall we?”
“Benedict!” Sophie screamed, taken by surprise. Benedict carried her through the threshold.
Needless to say, the only room Sophie saw during her first days as a newlywed was the bedroom. Not that she was complaining, but she couldn’t help but blush like a tomato when she saw Mrs. Crabtree again.
1825
Benedict sat at the edge of the lake, holding his baby daughter as he dunked her feet on the water. She giggled every time. It was Benedict’s favorite sound in the world. She was already trying to take her first steps. Soon, there will be four little terrors running around My Cottage, just like Anthony, Colin, Daphne and him once did. Or at least that was what his mother kept telling him. He does not remember them being so bad. Of course when he replied like that, Violet reminded him that was exactly what his father said to his father.
As Violet entertained herself with the grass and flowers in front of her, he thought of My Cottage. He thought of all the memories he had from his childhood. Of Anthony and him playing hide and seek, of the excursions with his father, of Colin and Daphne’s birth. And then he thought of when they left and how much he missed it for months. But he never told anyone cause Anthony would call him a baby. And yet his father knew.
His father saved it for him. So that he could fill it with love and laughter again.
For a few years, he thought that was never going to happen. And then Sophie came.
The rooms that used to be empty were now slowly filling. Sophie had a studio where she kept the books. His studio was now a proper professional artist’s studio to work on his commissions and personal projects. There he created the portraits that decorated their home. Charlie will need his own room soon, and then Alexander, and William and Violet. And with Sophie’s exquisite style, it was elegantly decorated. Even the servants’ quarters improved and were now full.
It used to be a silent and lonely house with only him and the Crabtrees. Now they had witnessed people falling in love, and had hosted wedding parties, courtships, births, birthdays, and other celebrations. And if they had a tragic memory of Charlie's sickness, they also remembered Philip saving him. Sophie was extremely popular in town and she often had callers from Rosemade.
Plus, with the Bridgerton family growing at an exponential rhythm, there were always visitors to entertain. Violet visited a couple of times a year, and Posy was a regular guest. The Crabtrees stayed as cook/housekeeper and groundkeeper. But now they had a butler, Sophie’s lady’s maid, Benedict’s valet, the children’s nanny, and other maids.
The first time he and Sophie sat in the dining room was when it actually hit him. Finally, he was the head of a family. Now, with his children and the wonderful memories they have accumulated, it filled his heart with joy that his father’s wishes had come true.

Here me out. I think s4 could be philoise. Sophie is not introduced yet & even if the ball happened in s3 dont forget there I'd suppose to be a gap between their 1 meeting to when the story takes off. Plus 1 of the reason we're polin now is because they don't want to aggravate the fan, well the same applies for philoise. Add the actress playing Marina is sick she might not be up to return to a project so close to what she's going through her story could be wrapped in 1 scene or with her not even present in s3, paving the way for s4 philoise.
Okay so before I answer this I'd first like to encourage all of you to support Ruby Barker, who plays Marina. Like I always do. She's an amazing actress who has been trough a lot and deserves all the love.
Now for those of you who don't know the context, Ruby Barker was quite open about her hospitalization in May 2022 due to mental health problems. She has subsequently been posting pictures of what we assume is a happy and healthy path to recovery. BUT we haven't heard anything about her taking on new projects. Which likely means she's not ready to go back to work yet. (And honestly, acting, is a job, glamourous as it is, if any of us had a job that caused us to have mental health struggles, the least recommended thing would be to go back to that job, until healing was well and truly accomplished)
Because of the situation with Marina's actress I do think s4 is going to be Benophie. I love Phillip as much as any other Philoise fan, but 1) Benophie fans were left pretty high and dry after they polin season was announced 2) Eloise has a lot of growing up to do, before she's ready to start her journey towards true love. At least with Benedict, we know he is open to finding love.
I disagree with what you said about not wanting to aggravate Philoise fans. Because, and I say this with all the kindness in the word, Philoise fans are less rabid than Polin fans. They're even less rabid than Benophie fans. (by a landslide but they are). You will find that when push comes to shove, Philoise fans will be happier to wait for s5 than Benophie fans ever would (and I say this with all the love in the word, Benophie fans, you are as scary as the Polins)
In fact, with the recent recasting of Francesca, there is a possibility that s4 will mash up An Offer From A Gentleman and about half of what happens in When He was Wicked.
I'd also like to add something very very obvious about TSPWL. that for Philoise to happen benophie NEEDS TO EXIST FIRST. at least one quarter of TSPWL involves Eloise and Phillip going in and out of My Cottage. The philoise proposal happens in Sophie's study and the scene where Phillip saves Benophie's son from a fever is pretty pivotal for Phillip and Eloise character development. Netflix can't just cut that part out and I will seriously riot if they decide to substitute those scenes of Philoise bonding with Benophie, with Kanthony or Polin.
the point of showing in s1 and s2 how much closer Eloise is with Benedict than she is with the rest of her siblings. Is to draw a parallel of how they both fall inlove with people who love them and accept them for who they are. Both in Sophie, who has always seen Benedict as his own person, and never confuses him with Bridgerton #1 or Bridgerton #3. And with Phillip who sees everything that people consider flaws in Eloise and celebrates her for it.
isn't it also interesting that Eloise and Benedict have the only 2 Bridgerton spouses who have suffered childhood physical abuse as well. Because here are two people who need to be loved so desperately it hurts because they have received so little love in their pasts, and that just tugs at that weak spot inside of Benedict and Eloise. Because they can give all the love and they just want to feel needed but still maintain their independence and holding on to their right to do what they want in life. Sophie and Phillip not only need them, but also support their individuality and encourage their self expression to the extreme.
So when the Philoise season does come Benophie kinda needs to have already happened.
and that's the tea

Sophie: *eyebrows scrunched* Did it hurt?
Benedict: *gleefully* When I fell from heaven? I don't know. I think I should ask you-
Sophie: *interrupting him* No when you fell down the stairs. It seemed like quite a tumble.
Benedict: *scratches his neck* No. I'm fine. Good. Great even!
Eloise: *slaps Benedict on his back, standing next to him and turns to Sophie* Yeah he's fine. You see he's visually impaired sometimes.
Sophie: *looks at Benedict in concern* Oh I'm so sorry!
Benedict: No..no. She's joking.. My eyesight is perfect, especially in front of beautiful women.
Sophie: *raise her eyebrows*
Benedict: *eyes widening in realization* I am sorry. That's not what I meant... I mean you... That is..Beautiful...
Sophie: *turns around and walks away*
Eloise: *grinning madly* Now wasn't that smooth! Tell me were you trying to say that she is beautiful?
Benedict: UGHH!!
