When armys used to talk about leftovers I used to roll my eyes because not liking a group when they change their musical direction is the most common thing just as I found myself annoyed by their hatred for multis - do you expect everyone to not listen to or to hate every other musical act just because they stan BTS?

However as someone who used to hardcore stan JK, I finally get the leftover part a little. I talk about him a little too much and it's because I used to stan him. I think its so much disappointing when someone you used to like becomes a poster boy of selling out. But I'm going to try to make a conscious effort to stop. It's just a bunch of negativity for no reason. Unfortunately pjms talk about JK a lot - mostly because jjks talk about Jimin - and the whole cycle keeps running. To some extent I appreciate the spite-inspo they provide pjms but at a certain point I want to open my twitter tl and not see fight after fight with every fandom on twitter and a bunch of ratkooks and maidkooks or pigmins or horsie or all that bs being thrown around. I've been off twitter for a week because of this (also to catch up with my assignments) and coming back, things are worse than ever.

I don't know what the solution is but things seem more exhausting than fun sometimes. I need some Jimin content stat 😔

Armys hatred of multis wasn’t because they liked other groups it was because multis 9/10 are fake and constantly threw BTS under the bus in defense of whichever other group they stanned. And in the case If they dropped BTS completely, they’d always immediately start to shit talk BTS the moment they unstan. (Even more embarrassing when you’d pull up old tweets to see that they were professing their love for BTS or specific members not even 3 months earlier sometimes) That’s where that term came from and it’s always been fitting. The bulk of these groups in kpop wouldn’t have the fanbases they have now without the fans BTS brought in. Especially 4th gen cause 80% of them are ex armys that’s just the truth. Me personally, I had no issue with anyone unstanning BTS when I was an army if their music started to not be to their taste. That’s understandable. But to unstan then go pick a group like NCT, SKZ or BP and want to talk about quality of music or talent? Yes, I will look at you dumb cause you’re not serious.

I will say that armys do give western multis a lot more leniency because they do hold western acts to a more superior standard than kpop groups. Which is ironic because those same western multis would in turn do the very same thing armys would call kpop multis out on and then they’d even add in a hint of xenophobia and condescension ontop of that too. So it really was all just one mess of a circle.

If PJMS weren’t as productive as they are in supporting Jimin, I’d be 10x more annoyed with them. They do talk about JK a lot but like you said it’s because jjks can’t mind their business. It’s also because how JK operates almost directly correlates to how jimin gets treated so it’s inevitable. Outside of that specific type of name calling (which irks me to no end on all accounts cause the majority of the people who are doing it are grown.) It’s the constant screenshooting and going back and forth that bugs me. Like I get receipt keeping cause I do it. But then you’ll have some pjms who will literally camp on the worst jjk anti accounts like Muri for a screenshot a couple minutes after that man posts some nasty tweet about jimin. And it’s like why? Why is he not blocked for you? What will he or any jimin anti really have to say that would be new or any different from him hurling the same pig insults, SH drags or reposting that same encore vid?

I don’t think the dynamic pjms have with jjks will ever change, so the best thing to do if you’re more on twitter is just stay in your own corner or continue to take breaks. Jimin hasn’t dropped music yet so you’re not really missing anything anyway.

no one cares but i thought i’d mention how jikook became my biases because at the end of the day i’m here for them because of who they are as people not because of what i perceive their relationship to be. anyway when i first heard about bts it was because a youtuber who was a massive weeb (shamefully so was i) mentioned them in a favourites video so i thought i’d check them out. the song mentioned happened to be spring day which wasn’t actually the first song i heard from bts, it was the second (the first one was fire) but i instantly liked their music. regardless i was so drawn to bts i wanted to find out more but i never heard about kpop before and had no idea about anything pretty much. my first bias was yoongi because i related to his lyrics a lot and i loooved his rapping (still do) but at this point i hardly knew their names. having 7 people in a group/band seemed a bit overwhelming cause i’m used to 4 or 5 in western groups and i was never into groups before this time anyway. i decided to look into all 7 of the members obviously and watched ot7 content, mainly the dance practices first because they seemed so cool to me as someone who used to dance, still loves dance and just in general i think dancing is one of the super cool aspects of kpop that you don’t see from western acts especially back then you didn’t. i looked up who the dance line was (tbh i could tell anyway) and because i didn’t really know anything else about bts i decided that the best dancer will be my bias (when i found out what a bias was and how everyone had one). unsurprisingly my bias happened to become jimin. i couldn’t believe how good a dancer he was (still is) and obviously him being strikingly handsome helped too. at this point i still couldn’t put all their names to faces which isn’t surprising cause i struggle with that anyway and they really kept changing up their looks and hair colours often back then. for this reason i decided that since i chose jimin to be my bias, i will watch videos of just him to learn more about him then when i know him well i’ll move onto another member. so i was watching a bunch of jimin videos and i was recommended a jikook compilation video. i was thinking now that i knew jimin, watching that video will help me learn about another member so i watched it and it was a typical shipping video (this was pre-gcf in tokyo btw). it was a bit jokey and honestly a bit wild but i enjoyed it so i watched more jikook videos to see more about jungkook. at the same i was listening to their albums and watching mvs and run and gayo back then so by the time i finished with the jikook vids i knew all of them well. after all this i loved both jimin and jungkook so much i just decided they’d be my joint biases and that’s been the case ever since.

i know no one’s reading all this but i want to say again i love jimin and i’m no anti. i don’t particularly care what anyone thinks so i’m not giving the satisfaction to the anon who keeps messaging me calling me an anti cause i know how i feel but if anyone’s read this i hope it was helpful lol

hi all!! ヾ(＾∇＾) it's been a while

so many things have happened since i last posted, and a whole summer has gone by!

firstly, i have gotten back into creative writing again! i've always been into writing my own short stories and mini novels since forever, and now i've found the motivation to pursue this again.

for six years i've been working on a passion project of mine, which is a novel covering both period fiction and fantasy. it's even influenced a lot of my artwork, which has actually sparked my motivation to actually finish the novel. maybe i'll post some parts of the novel on here..? (ー_ーゞ ... stay tuned i guess?

last time i posted, i was looking forward to zb1's debut (10/7). let me just say.. i'm so so SOOO glad that they went with a fresh whimsy concept and not a hardcore and dark concept that has been plaguing boy groups since 4th gen started. i've been seeing more groups start to shift away from the hardcore concepts and i couldn't be happier.

also, my two zb1 albums came in last month and guess who's card i pulled?

not just one hao.. but TWO hoas??? i've never been this lucky before when it comes to pulling photocards ＜("0 ")＞

in addition to zb1, i've been catching up with groups that i've previously been fans of. nct dream also had a comeback in july 'ISTJ' and it's sooo good!! renjun has been killing it this comeback this is HIS era. let's go renjun you go renjun!!!

i didn't pull renjun this comeback but i've been collecting some of his photocards from this album and the previous album. i've been getting back into investing in photocards which i'm not too proud of, considering that it's a big investment depending on which idol's cards you want to collect.

unfortunately for me, all my favorite idols are really popular, meaning their cards cost a lot more.

i'm trying to be smart and not overdo it though!! i don't want to go broke again (◞‸◟）.....

in other non-kpop related news, i got a new laptop!! my old one gave up on me so i had to use my mother's personal laptop for the rest of the spring semester and for my summer classes. i'm not normally a picky person, especially in times like this where i take what i can. but... given how old it was... it was absolute hell trying to get things done with it.

i'm actually a pretty busy person, and a lot of my work requires me to have a good-working device with working internet. this spare laptop was barely getting me through that, and it became almost impossible to get anything done.

and finally!! i was able to save up enough money this summer to get a new laptop! and it was perfect timing since i go back to school very soon..

anyways.. school starts very soon for me. it's my last year and then hopefully i'll be done for good. i'm a little nervous because of senior thesis work, but i have a really supportive department (we're very small so we all know each other pretty well) so hopefully i'll be okay. hopefully, this year will go pretty smoothly and it'll be another good year.

again, i'm sorry that i haven't been on here a lot. hopefully i'll be able to stay on here enough that i can give monthly updates, but we'll see. until then, i hope this finds you in good spirits! love yas <33 !

UPDATE!!

i totally forgot to mention that i watched barbie and oppenheimer a couple weeks ago and both are so so good!!! i was going in thinking i'd like only one of them, but actually loved both them near equally!

well... i actually think i liked barbie a little bit more. i think it has to do with being afab and being someone who has the female perspective and experience of a woman living in this world. i think that it's really sad that critics have labelled this as an "anti-man" and "preachy" movie when that wasn't the point at all. barbie actually talks about how the patriarchy is harming both women AND MEN! it talks about how even men are also victims of a social structure that they created.

i could talk about barbie forever, but i don't want to add too much to this post since it's already so long (~_~;)

maybe i'll talk about barbie and oppenheimer another time, since i have so many thoughts on both of them. overall, it was a good experience and recommend both movies to anyone who hasn't seen them yet. 10/10 for both to be honest...

they can't do this anymore, but how fun would it be if bts did that nct show where they bring members with awkward relationships? i find that show pretty tame but it's fine. remember that run episode where they told jimin he was fat like a pig or something among those lines when they were being honest? i am not one for fatshaming at all but they used to do those moments when they were honest, the most memorable thing was jin fatshaming jimin sadly but they all said things to each other and it looked sincere enough because they got pretty tense and i enjoy tension, sue me. around that time they were very famous in the kpop realm but not an international level yet, so they must have been allowed to be more "real". maybe it were my anti tendencies but when i was still an army i enjoyed that more than their "friendship" moments, the taegi propaganda that started in hawaii and then took over run for dozens of episodes was terrible. yoongi has always been quite condescending to jimin and taehyung, moreso than jungkook who is the youngest, he seems to respect him more than vmin is interesting to me he maybe thought vmin are dumb bottle blondes. sorry to join the yoongi hate train, but he is disappointing because he wants to be the rebel but ended up a sellout and follows orders anyway contradicting himself all the time, more than rm.

some of the things bts used to do before they rebranded from bangtan to beyond the scene were fucking wild to think about cause now there is no way in hell we would ever be allowed to see that sort of content lmao

i have never watched more than half of a run ep tho not even when i was a brand new purple blooded army. glad i spared myself

(hi, it’s me again pretending as if i didn’t go on an unannounced hiatus).

yes, i’m back...for now. i’m not sure for how long. as i’m too busy these days, but i wanted to specifically make this post because it’s been bothering me for a while now. someone mentioned this in the woosan tag as well, but it’s...

non-atiny’s(and some anti-shipping atiny) who constantly feel the need to expose woosan as some cleverly put together ship that was carefully manufactured by the company. i’ve seen so many titles on youtube and posts on twitter saying how:

“woosan is obvious fanservice” and “woosan; a prime example of queerbating in kpop”

i’ve never seen a ship be so criticized for being ‘out there’ and ‘in your face’. i’ve made a post on fanservice before but this post will mainly be focused on why i think it’s completely unfair, dishonest, homophobic, and antagonistic to view their relationship as manufactured and fake. and before you go, ‘i’m sure they’re good friends but all that other stuff is clearly done by the company.’ and don’t get me wrong, bc kq is very much aware of the ships and do try to profit off of fanservice...like every other company. but the clearest indicator of this not being MOSTLY all fanservice is something i’ve mentioned many times before.

1. the rest of the ships in ateez not being anywhere near the intimacy and skinship as woosan.

2. body language.

3. the members THEMSELVES explaining their dynamics.

4. kq not FORCING ships.

ever since predebut and debut there’s ALWAYS been three main ships in ateez. seongjoong, yungi, and ofc woosan.

as you could see, woosan was definitely thee most popular ship. however, i do believe their popularity grew over time because during the early era i’m sure seongjoong dominated, even on fanfic sites they dominate the amount of fanfics written about them. however, woosan’s clear comfort and intimacy with each other made them more popular among atiny’s and even non atiny’s they even had some taekookers saying their ship was realer and that’s saying something xD.

something people really, no i mean REALLY need to understand is...doing fanservice does not invalidate an entire relationship.

there are plenty of celeb couples who enjoy publicly dating and showing affection.

then comes the argument of well, “if they were real they wouldn’t be so obvious about it.”

this statement bothers me because, people who believe that showing too much skinship is fanservice but then they’ll turn around and say at the same time it’s just culture???

it’s fair to see them doing their fake love dance routine and going THAT’S FANSERVICE. but looking at those moments and going ‘nah, their entire friendship gotta be fanservice.’ is delusional to me, as u like to call us shippers.

even if you do not ship them romantically, it’s odd to me that people see two same-sex idols expressing comfortability, intimacy and skinship together and feel like if they’re too open about it or if it looks too gay then it’s....fake? even tho fans love to say it’s just apart of their culture. but if it gets too gay, then it’s fanservice.

i can’t. xD

just because they’re completely comfortable with being intimate doesn’t mean they’re being forced to act that way...it literally just means they ARE that way.

i constantly put emphasis on being comfortable with skinship and intimacy bc, to me that’s just not something the company can force. body language is a reaction from your true emotions and your inner most thoughts. IT IS THE FOUNDATION TO FIGURING OUT WHAT A PERSON TRULY FEELS INSIDE AS THEIR EMOTIONS WILL ALWAYS TRANSLATE THROUGH THEIR BODY. if u are uncomfortable it will be revealed through body language. and i know a ton of seongjoong shippers are gonna hate me for this, but they are a prime example of this. trust me i’m not here to start a ship war, i am purely just using them as an example of discomfort in body language.

body language is something a company cannot control.

seongjoong show definite signs of being uncomfortable with intimacy, heck shippers use that one moment seonghwa expressed sadness bc hj hugged the other members and not him as a shipping moment lol. but even when they do hug it looks uncomfortable. my guess is bc hj is not good at expressing his feelings and isn’t a touchy person. and even tho seonghwa is comfortable with skinship, it’s understandable that it can become uncomfortable for him bc of the things i mentioned before as well as the power dynamics and age difference between them.

and here i am going to be stoned bc, i have more to say about seongjoong(don’t kill me).

bc something the company also can’t control is what OR who the members hang out with OUTSIDE of group activities. so that’s why i’m also mentioning that i also don’t think seongjoong is as close as shippers think they are as...seonghwa mostly hangs out with woosan. and it is almost always mentioned how often woosan hang out together off camera. even early on. woosan hung out so much that it literally came to a point where yeosang felt like his bestfriend was taken from him.

can we mention again how happy that makes san? and let’s not forget the moment woo said seonghwa was into him, but san was like. ‘you’re into me tho’ and they BOTH tried to gloss over that.

when they talk about their dynamics, jongho says he feels left out but hj exposes him and says, ‘we’ve tried to pair him with someone but he(jongho) just doesn’t do it’

so this just solidifies my statement from earlier, if the members don’t wanna promote a ship. they ain’t gonna do it. we got one or two vlives from twoho and das it. lmfao. don’t get me wrong. i’m sure jongho get along well with yunho as well as the other members, but promoting any of the other ships in ateez like woosan isn’t gonna work well. ‘cause the rest of the members don’t have the same dynamics. woosan are comfortable with skinship and being intimate with each other and the other members just are not.

another piece of evidence is the members tired reaction whenever woosan is mentioned. lmfao.

this was so dramatic omg. but the members reactions are very telling of woosan’s relationship off screen. if woosan was just fanservice i do not believe the members would react the way they do, maybe share some knowing glances at each other like. ‘pfft, they think woosan’s real’ but their reactions are always big or very indicative of something bigger happening behind the scenes. lol.

Lastly Wooyoung’s Tatto. I know right? He’s very committed to fanservice guys.

Amicus ad Aras is something that woosan made to signify their friendship, and the fact woo got a tattoo on his body of it means a lot. not to mention woo himself taking initiative to find something that represented their relationship.

i feel like i need to reiterate that the meaning of this tattoo was to define his relationship to san specifically so it applies to san specifically. woo has many MANY friends AS WELL as bestfriends yet he got a tattoo that can only be truly applied to san and no one else.

u can continue saying theyy’re just good friends doing fanservice, but it’s obv that woo has many good friends. so the next question u gotta answer is what separates san from the others.

In 2019 I discovered kpop and bts. I really fell in love with jikook. Realllly. I had very important entrance exam in my dream University on July 16. I had shivers all over my body the morning I woke up, I was nervous so much I felt like I could throw up. So to distract myself I checked twitter and *BAM* next second Jimin published the video with JK, them showing hearts behind the stage of Japanese concert. I thought they are my lucky charms. I don’t have many people supporting me in my life so I very naively considered jikook as my support. I was soooo happy, I was receiving my paper exam with smile on my face (maybe I looked crazy to other poor kids lol). So the exam was success and I started my 1 year... Along the journey I became...it’s really embarrassing to say..like obsessed? I think Uni caused so much stress for me plus I was far from home, like kilometers away seeing my mum once-twice a year. So nobody controlled me and I just couldn’t stop scrolling through twitter, YouTube, instagtam consuming every content bts (mostly jikook) put out daily for like endless hours. I found unhealthy escapism from it. Now I’m on 3d year with 2 failed exams because I couldn’t concentrate and just study it properly... I mean when I study I end up in top10 in my class but for the past 1,5 year I just procrastinate watching silly kpop shows. I study design in architecture it’s difficult profession and I done nothing useful. I started to get really mad at kpop industry, I think they tricked me somehow lol. I am their best victim. Tho I perfectly understand that I can’t put blame on it but...I just can’t break that parasocial relationship. Therapy/psychological help in my country basically doesn’t exist and I can’t imagine myself going to one saying ..what?..I’m kpop addict? I need someone telling me that’s not okay. But you know I was a good girl I got so confused in the past seeing trolls hate comments. now I can see why someone would became one. Like these anti nasty accounts on twitter what is happening in their heads? It must be more miserable than my situation. But I think I know what they feel ..relief? Making somebody angry as you are makes them satisfied.

I love reading you. You sound educated and sophisticated. Please just say to me “go and study, Jul” I need to find any mili piece of motivation to study and quit fucking kpop. I just found that ironic that jikook was my lucky charm in 2019 but now I feel like they down falling me.

Look, it does sound like an addiction, not gonna lie. I mean, when you end up failing your exams because of K-Pop, that is a big sign that we have a problem. I'm not saying this to judge you because I understand what obsession looks like. Back when I was 16, I discovered that I really love movies. And not just the regular stuff that you see at the mall when you go with your friends, but the deep ones, the artsy ones. So I thought, fuck school, this is what I'm going to do. I need to do my homework fast so I can focus on my own stuff which is so much better. But I also knew that I need to have some limits, you know? And k-pop addiction is even worse and it gets to you, especially when you find yourself in a situation just like yourself and I also know a thing or two about that, but we're not getting into that. Thing is, it really sucks to be away from your family and if staying up at night watching kpop on youtube to make yourself feel better, then it's understandable.

But please think of your studies as well and don't miss your chances. Jikook are still going to be here anyway. Everything stays up on the internet.

the new comeback is here and while i didn't really like it that much (i love a lot of pop but don't really like that genre of pop tbh), i'm not gonna sit here and borderline sound like an anti on the boys. i'm in a twt gc and for the past 40 min these two armys (one of them i already look at them sideways bc they quite literally talked shit on the rapline to defend another one of their favs... 🤨) are going back and forth talking shit about bts new music and talking about how much they hate it. now, ngl i like to joke about my favs music here and there (ofc, of all the artists i love, it'd be a lie to say i love every one of their songs, it's just an opinion). however, they are sounding like borderline antis and it's irritating the hell out of meeee. like yea it's one thing to "hate" the song... but tell me why they going on about how much they "miss the old bangtan" and how fucking "bad they sound recently"?? like what the hell😭 i haven't said a single thing in the gc but they @ me and other "inactive" members asking us for our thoughts. like idek what to say bc that really kilt my mood. mind you, that one army i said i look at sideways is "multi"/kpop fan and i've noticed that ever since bts started to get really successful, they have been making slick comments. and for that (as well as this situation rn), i feel like i can't say anything bc they are gonna accuse me of being like those "crazy army" which isn't even true 😭 like don't get me wrong i really don't care if people don't like bts' music, but it's another thing to just straight up talk shit about their song for like 40+ min straight. like fuck... they both loved black swan yet i don't remember them going on 40+ min on how much they adore it? but they easily can go on to talk shit for this long without a problem? 🧐🧐 anyways i think this is my sign to leave twitter and fully migrate here bc im tired of it anyway lol

oh HELL yes my time has COME

so i really like making character playlists when i’m bored because it helps me get a feel for the character? and sometimes it’s just a lot of fun to put a song in there that doesn’t necessarily match and try to come up with a justification for it, you know? when i make playlists, some of the songs match them entirely, while some just give off a vibe with their genre or specific tune, others match because of the title, and some just have really good lyrics or a good line or two. sometimes i just add in a song i think they’d like to listen to! really, there’s not a lot of strict method between choosing songs, and i don’t stick to one specific type of music for any given playlist!

i have playlists for all seven brothers and solomon right now. the other nowdateables....i don’t have enough of a grasp on them right now to make a playlist for them? so they’re still upcoming. each playlist is subject to little tweaks, like adding or removing the occasional song, but most of the playlists are finished! The only two that might change the most are Beelzebub’s and Satan’s. Beel’s has the least songs and they’re all revolving around food and eating (at least the titles are) but i just......i don’t know his character well enough to branch out from that yet. Satan’s feels like I just shoved all of the songs i liked by fall out boy in a playlist and called it a day, so I’ll be reworking that one and tailoring it more to him instead of making it more like “hehe angery boy angy”

i am planning to make cute little playlist edits to properly introduce the playlists, but i can go ahead and give you a little intro to the playlists right now!

Solomon’s is half a love letter (the beginning being a lot of love songs/songs meant to be sung to another person) and half a character playlist lol. His is the newest and it might be my favorite, but I don’t know if that’s because he’s my favorite or because of the songs. Probably both?

Favorite additions: Willow by Taylor Swift and Meet Me In The Woods by Lord Huron. Church by Aly & AJ is up there, too.

Lucifer

Lucifer’s is one where a lot of my decisions came from song title and vibe over actual content, but I still think a lot of it worked! His is the one with the most allusions to their angel days because he just...he’s the one who reminds me of it the most? He’s got a lot of songs titled “Halo” or “Oh My Dear Lord” or “Devil’s Den” and I’m not 100% sure why alksjlksdf. His is also the only one with his character song in it (though I’m probably gonna add Belphie’s into his) because those are the one’s I feel fit the vibes I already had in the playlists when the songs came out lol

Favorite Additions: The Lovers Dancing by Innerpartysystem, Saints by Echos, and Bubble by Danny Blu (Mr.Kitty Remix).

Mammon

Mammon’s has a lot of those songs that are like “haha i’m so rich and I’ve got chicks for days” while also having a lot of songs that are like “dance till we’re the last ones standing and it’s just you and me.” I feel like that kind of wanting the MC to himself fits without being too....eh? I don’t know? Too Much? He also has a lot of high-energy pop/house/edm/whatever because (especially after his character song came out) I feel like that’s what fits him!

Favorite Additions: Collide by Breathe Carolina, Inseparable by The Jonas Brothers, Big Plans by Why Don’t We.

Leviathan

Levi’s was the first one I made!! Although funnily enough I don’t have a lot to say about it? The music here is probably some of the most varied (or maybe i’m just making it up in my mind) and the songs range from “this describes levi” to “this describes being self conscious” to “this is about breaking out of the friend zone” to “pretty sure this song was popular in AMVs and nightcore” LOL but i think it ended up with being a really good playlist WITHOUT relying solely on like. anime OPs and EDs and vocaloid and stuff like that.

Favorite Additions: They Say You Won’t Come Back by Breathe Carolina, Just a Friend To You by Meghan Trainor, and Doubt by Twenty One Pilots.

Satan

Again, I’m not sure if my choices for him were genius or stupid but man did i make them. A lot of the beginning songs were me just trying to get a /feel/ for him because I’m still working out the balance between wrath and the rest of his personality so...subject to change but maybe not? Maybe I’ll just add a few less angry songs...but I still think what I have right now is good! I wouldn’t show you otherwise!

Asmodeus

Asmo’s playlist feels like one you’d put on while getting ready to go out with The Girls if you know what I mean? It does deal heavily with like. partying and songs about sex but it’s not gross? I don’t know how to explain it without it sounding that way lol. It’s not ALL sex and partying but I wanted a playlist that sounded like the color pink without just being bubblegum pop. I don’t know, I think it works lol

Dear non-asian Kpop fans on Tumblr.

With the recent events of 6 Asian American women getting shot in Atlanta, I need to say something.

I know that i'm going to get hate for this post, but it’s something that desperately needs to be said. To all of you who claim to love Asians and love Asian culture, I'm not sure if this clicks, but the people on stage you watch on Mnet, MAMAS, and so much more are Korean, Japanese, Chinese, or otherwise idols of Asian descent and obviously thus Asian men and women. I'm an Asian American and I am extremely disappointed in the Kpop community right now. You guys love our Asian culture, wear our makeup, try to debut for the Kpop companies, eat our native foods, learn our languages, wear our clothing, say you know so much about our culture, make memes of our idols, and support other much needed causes such as BLM, however when Asian people are getting attacked in America and world wide, [the racism is not new people, you guys just told us Asians we were sensitive to shut us up] the Kpop community is just... silent? I'm so beyond confused and disappointed in the non-Asian fans who supposedly love our cultures. We are getting attacked with racist comments and slurs, getting killed because people suddenly think certain nationalities "started Covid" and are getting told that we will be beheaded, “we’re the reason for the virus”, and getting set on fire, among insults such as “Kung flu”. The world told us the slurs against us were “harmless”. Now look what they have started. Covid-19 was not “Made In China”. I looked up “Kpop community stands against racism against AAPI an all I got was “Kpop/ARMY community stands against racist news man against BTS". If you really care about us, really care about BTS, and really care about Asian culture, LEARN ABOUT US and STAND WITH US RATHER THAN IN SILENCE ABOUT THE RACISM AGAINST AAPI. I'm exhausted of being afraid for my safety and life and I am the race that people currently "love so much". You guys are really proving all you care is for Kpop Idols looks when the only Asians you supporting are Kpop idols when they are attacked with racial comments and hatred and not other people of their own race, so if you really want to love Asians STAND AGAINST RACISM. It’s extremely hypocritical and to be honest, blows my mind. The next time you see an Asian at school, at work, at home, in your family, anywhere! facing slurs and physical attacks, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. I’ve seen videos on cam where nobody has helped the Asian who just got pushed and attacked. Don’t be that person. Channel the "Kpop Queens" you tweet, post, write about and the "International Kpop Fans" you are, and SPEAK UP FOR ALL ASIANS. I know people will hate and say I don't love BTS and Kpop with my whole heart blah, but you're wrong. I have never had Asian role models ever, and BTS inspires me each and every day, I am so grateful I cried on Grammy night just to see Asians on my television screen. However, I am not okay with the community who I used to respect just letting this stuff go on, not saying anything even when the cultures they love so much are the ones getting affected.

Read! Read about our cultures experiences in America. Read about our cultures in their natural form in our native homelands as well. You may think you know so much about your “Oppa’s homeland” but to be honest and to put it quite plainly, you actually don’t. You know a 1/4 of what you think you do. [Trust me. If you be quietly listen to actual Asian experiences in America or at home, you will learn so much.] Also, read books by Asian-American authors, not non-Asian authors. Look up the surname in question if you do not know if it is Asian or not.

Right?? This whole week as LC was increasing I saw non stop tears and recriminations because "guys we need to focus on new releases". But somehow LC reaches one billion and now suddeny the new focus is getting every member to 1B. They don't even seem to be that sad that neuron has completely left the chart. It's been 1 week 💀

Anyway the project is doomed to fail like anon said. Many armys nowadays seem to have no concept of how charts or streams work. I don't think most of them have worked out how long it's going to take to get all of them to 1 billion. With the numbers as they are SNTY and LMA would probably be the easiest to get to 1 billion and it would still take at least half an year more to get that done. Reminds me of that one army yesterday who had no idea that the spotify counter is for unfiltered streams or that army from a few weeks back who tried to cover up being an anti by saying let's get LC to 1 billion in 3 days when it still had 20M left to go.

I used to think armys (and other solos) were being deliberately obtuse about things because there's no way they don't see the payola JK got or not know how the hot 100 or radio works but I'm becoming more and more convinced that the armys of today are not the ones from 2018-2021 because they seem to have no clue what's going on most of the time.

Fandom is already divided as hell - with the anti-company stans and boycotts, the pro-company stans demonising other armys, some outright antis masquerading as ot7s and everyone else only being here for bragging rights and fighting other kpop stans, things are not looking good for 2025. BTS better bring their a-game for their next work because if they're planning on skating by with some boring ballad as a title track, weak concept and with all of them sitting on chairs, its going to land them nowhere with the fandom in this state.

All I know is armys better point that finger at themselves if hobi doesn’t chart on hot 100 next week, cause I’ve never seen such a lack of effort for a bts member’s comeback in all my years of being in that fandom.

Chair era was the absolute pit. I know it was concentrated around the more ballad type songs but even spring day had choreo. Pair that with both LGO and YTC being dull songs everything was just so lackluster. And after seeing Jimin do smf2 level choreo, having to watch him go back to sitting on chairs would do me in. So I honestly hope that they don’t come back with that. Or them damn white dionysus clown boots!

So, I've got a very long rant/opinion here and Idk really know how to say this without coming off kinda bad but I'm gonna say it anyways. I agree with the fact that the seventeen tag has been kinda dry lately on most fanfic places, but it's really only in the smut area. It's the sane way with other groups too I feel like. All of the nice little innocent tags are boomin to this day and thats completely fine. I think the smut tag is dry tho bc lately I feel like a few social issues (like sexualizing people and disrespecting them and their identity) have crossed over into kpop and have been ?blown out of proportion? Lately there's been a rampage of people who like to say that writing smut about someone is disgusting and is dehumanizing because people want to assume that it would make the idols uncomfortable which could equate to some morality issues on how you are reducing someone only to their body without their consent and a bunch of stuff like that. It kind of pisses me off bc this is fiction. About grown adults. Clamping down on horny people who simp over hot asian men isn't going to solve the issues we face in real life. I think a shit ton is wrong with the world we currently live in, and deciding to come after something that isn't even real bothers me. Like what does that actually accomplish. But yeah, I think thats a reason why smut has been dying down. I mean, on youtube almost every video about unpopular opinions, or things they dont like about kpop will include something about shipping idols in fanfics. And then everyone in the comment section will talk about how its all fine and dandy in moderation, but once people start writing smut it's crossing the idols personal boundaries. It's something I've been seeing a lot more often and I think people who are interested in writing smut are being turned away from it bc we've gotten to a point where people are being called disgusting for having fantasies.

I want to preface this by saying: when I write or talk about Mingyu and Wonwoo fucking on my blog, it is a fantasy. I am not speculating about what the real Mingyu and Wonwoo might be like in bed. I am imagining the versions of Mingyu and Wonwoo that I have created in my head, that exist only in my stories. None of it is real. I understand that this can be a blurry boundary for some people. But for me, the separation between fantasy and reality is well-defined. Now, on to your Ask!

You’ve hit the nail on the head with this one. You’ve also touched on many of the issues I have been struggling with myself as of late. It’s difficult to argue about morals since everyone has a different set of values, as well as different comfort levels. Some people think real person fiction (RPF) is a gross invasion of privacy. Others are fine with it. And others don’t care one way or another. There is no single answer; I can only offer my answer. Which means, of course, people are welcome to disagree with it, or parts of it.

In this essay (LOL But forreal: this is an essay), I will be sharing my experience in the k-pop fanfic community from 2014 to present, the etiquette I personally abide by as a reader and writer of RPF, as well as my stance on RPF in general.

I started reading and posting fanfics back in 2014/2015 on a website called AsianFanfics (AFF). Obviously, no one on that site had a problem with RPF, since AFF is a platform made specifically for sharing stories about Asian celebrities. For many years, I read and enjoyed RPF with zero guilt. I scribbled away by myself in my own corner of fandom and curated my own content. I didn’t interact much with other fans, readers, or writers. I didn’t have a Twitter, and I only used tumblr to reblog memes. As a result, I’ve been able to avoid a lot of anti-shipping discourse, as well as purity and cancel culture. I had no idea there were so many negative opinions about RPF. It wasn’t until I became active on the subreddit r/Fanfiction last year that I learned about all the discourse surrounding RPF.

This newfound ‘awareness’ does make me feel guilty at times—but only because after mulling this over, I still don’t think this is something to feel guilty about.

Here’s what I remember, first and foremost, when I create and consume RPF: fanfics and my favourite ships are fictional, and fiction is fantasy. This is basic etiquette when it comes to RPF, and most people in the k-pop fandom understand this. Delusional fans exist, of course, but they are not representative of the entire k-pop community.

Another point of etiquette is to keep fanfics within fandom spaces. I would never push my fics into celebrities’ faces, or go around claiming that my fanfics are accurate representations of a k-idol’s life or personality, in any way, shape, or form. I would also discourage directing ship-related questions to official accounts, or bringing them up during fansigns or other face-to-face interactions; I believe that in these instances, shipping does have the potential to strain real-life relationships.

So with basic etiquette out of the way, let me share my approach to RPF in general.

As much as we like to think we know our favourite celebrities, we really don’t. All we see is their public persona. And this public persona is intentionally controlled, managed, and curated by a team of people: directors, tabloids, editors, makeup artists, publicists, etc. How “real” are these celebrities? We are so distanced from them that they may as well be fictional.

I draw from the public persona that idols project, and I work them into my own writing. But at the end of the day, these personalities are my own interpretation. My interpretation is probably nothing like an idol’s actual personality. I just use the “public persona/character” that idols portray as inspiration for my own stories, which are set in wildly different universes.

More than anything, I think of k-pop idols as “actors” in my fic. You know how when you write an original novel, you scroll through Google images, looking for the perfect person to portray your original character? RPF is literally that, except you might build upon pre-existing dynamics and personalities.

When it comes to explicit fanfiction, two main concerns are prevalent: one of consent, and one of sexualisation.

If we argue against explicit RPF due to lack of consent, we should be willing to apply the same lens to all explicit works. How do we know that the creator of a movie, book, series, etc., is okay with us using their characters in our stories, explicit or not? We don’t. Perhaps some creators encourage fanfiction, but don’t want their lovingly crafted characters engaging in sexual acts or experiencing trauma. We just don’t know. I feel this line is even more blurred when we talk about characters from movies or TV series.

Let’s take Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes, as portrayed by Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan, from the Captain America movies as an example. I am willing to bet that when people consume and create explicit fanfiction about Steve and Bucky, they are imagining Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan in their heads. I doubt many people are imagining the 2D cartoon versions of Steve and Bucky, even though they’re technically the exact same characters. Why? Well, it could be because movies are more readily and easily consumed than comics, and so people are unfamiliar with comic book Steve and Bucky. But it might also be because fans find Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan attractive. Is this really any different from RPF, where fic authors make up everything about a celebrity’s life?

When readers and writers of fanfic talk about how hot Steve Rogers or Bucky Barnes is, those comments are about Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan’s bodies. When reading explicit stories, fans are going to picture Chris and Sebastian’s bodies in their head, doing sexual things. Can we say, “Well, it’s not really you, Chris/Sebastian”, when in a way, it is?

The reality is, people are going to thirst over celebrities, regardless of whether or not explicit fanfiction exists. They’re going to post thirst tweets on Twitter. They’re going to talk to friends and strangers online about how hot [insert celebrity name here] is. They’re going to fantasize about dating and having sex with their favourite celebrity. Or, as it is in my case, they’re going to make up stories in their heads about their favourite idols dating and banging each other. People are going to do all of this without ‘getting consent’ from the celebrity. Cracking down upon and shaming writers of RPF isn’t going to change any of that.

To be honest, I’m not sure why people think it is disgusting to imagine sexual scenarios about real people. It is okay and normal to have these kinds of fantasies. I suppose the alternative is to fantasise about having sex with cartoon characters instead? It’s a very binary way of thinking to say that if you imagine/write real people in explicit scenarios, you are immediately sexualising, dehumanising, or objectifying them. There is more to dehumanisation than writing smut about our favourite celebrities. For one thing, you can love someone and appreciate all parts of them, and still want to fuck their brains out. And generally, fanfics come from a place of love—love that is not only sexual in nature.

Is it the sharing aspect inherent to fanfiction? The possibility that a celebrity might stumble upon explicit works about them? The chances are very low, I think, of the k-pop idols I enjoy writing about coming across my English fics. But I also believe in curating your own content, and that applies to celebrities too. Perhaps a celebrity should not go searching for fanfics about themselves. And of course, people should not show celebrities their fanfics, unless invited.

Another argument I hear against (explicit) RPF is, “How would you feel if someone wrote fanfiction about you?” First off, I don’t like this argument because there’s a difference between someone who decides to be a public figure versus someone who decides to remain a regular private citizen. Celebrities should and do know what they’re getting into when they choose their occupation. (This is not to say, “They are celebrities; sexualise them all you want because that’s what they signed up for.” Here, I am only acknowledging that people might have sexual fantasies about celebrities they are attracted to. Presumably, celebrities are cognizant of this.)

If someone (whose existence I am not even aware of, mind you) decides they want to write explicit fanfiction of me in some tiny corner of the Internet, I wouldn’t care so long as: (1) they don’t shove it into my face, and (2) they don’t harass me and ask invasive questions about my personal life and relationships. It’s not hurting me or negatively affecting my life, so it wouldn’t even register as a blip on my radar. When fanfiction remains within its appropriate spaces, it is largely harmless.

Now, if a k-pop idol were to ask their fans to stop writing fanfiction about them, would I? Yes, I would. However, I can’t imagine that happening. Judging by the number of ‘sexy’ concepts, fanservice moments, and variety shows such as ‘We Got Married’, I am certain that k-pop idols realise they are the stars of many fantasies—some of which are explicit in nature. Considering the prevalence of shipping in the k-pop industry, I would argue that shipping is subtly encouraged.

It’s sad that so many talented writers are shamed out of fandom, or feel that k-pop cannot be the medium through which they tell their stories, or explore their sexuality, or cope with trauma, or simply have fun. Professional works and Hollywood love their RPF—readers and writers of fanfics should be able to, as well.

As you said Anon, “clamping down on horny people who simp over hot asian men isn't going to solve the issues we face in real life” (this is a lovely sentence, by the way). The kind of person who dehumanises another and reduces them to a sexual object will do so some other way, if not via fanfiction. I don’t think the issue of fetishisation can be fixed simply by telling people not to write explicit RPF. In my experience, people who read and write RPF are more respectful and thoughtful about these things than the general public. We’ve all seen the general public say highly sexual things about celebrities in the media and to their faces, or tag celebrities in their thirst tweets. Are these things less invasive than fanfiction? Personally, I don’t think so. And in my opinion, there are more pressing and damaging issues in stan culture than fanfic.

In conclusion, I don’t think there is anything wrong with creating and consuming RPF, both explicit and non-explicit so long as we:

Remember we are writing fiction

Keep RPF within its appropriate space, and

Do not harass celebrities about their personal lives and relationships

RPF is not for everyone. There may be people who enjoy RPF, but draw the line at explicit stories. This is fine. Everyone has their own personal preferences. What is not fine, however, is attacking people for creating things you don’t like. I’m not sure what kind of moral crusade people are on and what they hope to achieve by shaming writers of RPF, explicit or otherwise. Ultimately, fic authors are writing a fantasy. It’s not real; no one is being hurt. I think it’s important for people to curate their own content, and AO3 makes it very easy to filter out explicit works and unwanted tags.

Maybe this is me trying to justify my own participation in explicit RPF—I don’t know. What I do know is that I love k-pop, and fandom is an important part of my media and entertainment experience. I adore the k-pop idols I write about, and I just want to imagine them being happy and getting lots of love and orgasms. Let a bitch be horny, goddamn…

I read ur recent post and i would like to give my point of view. As we all know memories dvd had a lot of jk and jm moments. I personally dont think bh is trying to show more of a ship for money or something. Bcoz we also had a moment where tae and jk were literally holding hands and saying 'i love you' to each other. Also if you really think about it they wouldnt actually want to fuel ship wars bcoz it would only bring defamation to the artist and the fans if people outside of the fandom come to know of how toxic the fandom is. But i know shipping is a big part of kpop and bts have previously done fanservice too (although not over the top). I m also aware of the fact that jm and jk top the brand reputations for idols in sk and jm has been on the top for almost 2 years now. So its possible they show them more bcoz they are the 2 most popular members albeit only in sk bcoz in japan and internationally tae and jin are more popular and in china rapline is more popular. What i personally believe is memories dvd and contents like that are supposed to be fun. Now jm and jk are currently 2 of the most playful and hyper members. Hope and jin also act out sometimes but not as much as jm. Whereas tae is somewhat subdued now compared to the earlier years. If you see yoongi amd joon they rarely behave goofily. But in memories u can see that most of the moments for all members where moments that were funny or cute. May be that is why some people feel like jikook is pushed as a ship but it is not so. Bcoz kookmin is the most popular ship only in sk. If u see internationally i think taekook is more popular and if you think of profit then international fans are more compared to karmys. Also bh has recieved backlash from fans regarding jikook so they wouldnt be pushing it for profit only. They usually save the emotional or struggle moments for documentary series. And in those contents we dont see jikook tgt often do we?(correct me if i am wrong). That is probably why we got a lot of jm and jk moments bcoz recently they have schedules together often and they are very goofy and get each other hyped up while being playful together. Not to metion jm and jk are the most cuddly and touch too. Jk cuddles a lot with jm, hobi and jin too. Similarly jm cuddles kookie and hobi a lot and sometimes also jin. Whereas tae, yoongi and joon are mostly not that touchy. But for tae its really volatile sometimes he is very clingy and loud but other times he is very mild and subdued. In the end i think it comes down to their different personalities and thats why they have different dynamics. Surely all the members have a close knit relationship. Vmin personally to me are very special bcoz they are literally very different people yet they love and respect each other.

You've made a very good point still, here we are talking and discussing about this same issue. Why? Because we are all trying to figure out who is right, wrong etc. Talking about Bts. The thing is that I don't understand why Big Hit would show all that because let's be honest, it was stirring. 'I love you' isn't a new thing Bts says to each other so Jimin saying that to Taehyung won't raise eye brows. It would just make people feel giddy but then that's it.

Wasn't it Jin who said I love you to Jimin during one of his live broadcast? It's nothing new.

And yet even after getting criticized for this same public display thing Jikook does once before, they still showed it, even more intense than the last. To me, i think it's because the gains far out weighed the loss. Even as they were criticized, there were still lots of people who liked the contents they got. Jikook look good publicly. As soloists, they are two of the most successful artist of Bts which is why they are often paired together, they ride the same car and are basically promoted together. They often sing together also and people like it, thereby attracting lots of new fans to the group both as a duo and single handedly but as for making people know about the fans being toxic, there will always be toxic fans, every popular kpop groups have them. It's a reality they can't escape from especially if you are someone as popular as BTS who are loved by millions of people all over the world. Then, there's the saesangs. Those fans who basically glue themselves to their artists and are irrational in their love for their idols going as far as spying on them, putting trackers on their cars just to monitor them, sending naked pics (Cough...like one did to Jungkook)

But it's not because of these people won't still love them because these are the unfortunate sides to being a star who is loved by all.

But, even though one member is more popular in other countries than others, doesn't mean others don't have a very strong fan base as well. As far as I know, Jungkook is the second member that has the highest fan base in Japan. Showing their moments is supposed to be fun... true but not everyone is laughing. How did people really feel watching those moments, honestly?

If it was that fun as they intended to make it, why did people go to complain to Big Hit before telling them to reduce the boy's pda but no reaction was given. Big Hit said nothing and instead, this year continued with it because what they gained is far more than what they lost. It's just like some antis who keep criticizing Taehyung, telling Big Hit to kick him out of the group, that Bts is better off without him but of course, Big Hit never accomodates or replies to such talks because they know the benefit they get from Taehyung remaining in the group. It's almost the same. This is simply what I think because the entertainment industry isn't as black and white as we think especially in Asian countries like South Korea where competition prevails.

I don't want to say more than I should. This is a Vmin blog. It has nothing to do with the politics going on in the entertainment industry so I'll stop right there. Anyway, thanks for pointing out your views but there are just some things that don't add up which is why it's skeptical to me. I see you are a vminer as well. We are on the same side and it seems you are a very practical person which is why i can tell there's no ulterior motives. You are simply being sincere. It's just we have two very different opinions regarding this issue. There are people who will agree with what you say and there are those who will agree with me but the fact that we are even somehow arguing about this matter because of jikook's moment in Bts memories is what baffles me. I would normally ignore things like these but I get asked about it a lot and when I answer, different reactions are given. Why all the fuss?
