16. someone's pulling a gun and you're jumping in the middle of it
If it sparks joy ☺️❤️
so i was in an angsty mood, hope you like it <3
They weren't at a call, they weren't supposed to face danger that day.
It's all Buck can think about as he stares down the barrel of a gun.
It's their day off and Buck had plans, alright? This was supposed to be the perfect day.
The perfect first date.
The restaurant is really fancy, with the most expensive wine that Buck has ever seen and all the tables looked like straight out of a historical movie or some shit like that. The menu is full of weird names, half of which Buck can't even pronounce.
But it's his first date with Eddie and he wants it to be just perfect. A night neither of them would ever forget.
He wants to show Eddie he made the right choice when he gave Buck a chance.
There's classic music playing in the background, the sound of piano and violins floating through the air and making Buck relax in his seat.
And then— there's a loud crash, one of the windows at the front of the restaurant breaking and pieces of glass flying everywhere.
For a second, Buck doesn't know what's going on. For a second he's just confused.
And then—
"Nobody move! I said nobody fucking move! A man in a mask is carrying a gun. His movements are erratic and fast, almost maniac.
Buck's heart clenches inside his heart.
Eddie makes a sound and then he's standing up. Because of course he is, Buck thinks— remembers the way Eddie didn't even flinch that time they were taken hostages by the prison guy.
"Eddie." He mutters, as low as he can as to not catch any unwanted attention.
It doesn't work.
"I said nobody fucking move!" The man yells and Buck— Buck watches as the gun is pointed towards Eddie.
The sense of deja vu pooling in his stomach is sickening and he wants to throw up.
No.
Not again.
Buck moves before he can think twice about it, jumping over the table and placing his body in front of Eddie's, like some kind of human armor.
There's a loud gunshot, but the choked desperate sound that Eddie makes on the back of his throat might be even louder.
Buck feels himself falling to the ground and then Eddie's face is above his.
"Evan! What did you do? What have you—" Eddie is frantic, his hands shaking and hovering above Buck's body.
He frowns.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt?" Buck asks.
Was Eddie shot?
Please God, not again. Buck can't go through that again.
"W-what?" Eddie laughs, but it's sharp and bitter and there's not a trace of humor in it. It's hysterical if anything. "No, I wasn't shot. You got in the way of the bullet, you idiot." He choked out and he's— He's crying.
Eddie never cries.
The last time Eddie cried he was broken and on the floor, hugging a baseball bat.
That was two years ago.
"E-eddie?"
And oh.
Oh
Eddie presses down on his abdomen and Buck feels it.
"Shh, it's okay, baby. Just— Don't talk. Don't— Hold on for me." Eddie says, his voice trembling and his tears falling down his cheeks and into Buck's face.
Buck mouths something with trembling lips but no sound comes out— just a garbled noise.
Buck can taste the blood. His own blood.
Well, that's not good.
There's a lot of background noise, screams and orders being yelled but none of that matters.
If Buck dies right there, he'll do it as he stares at Eddie.
"Hold on for me, baby. Please. Please." Eddie is begging above him and Buck wants to listen to him.
But he's so tired.
A weak hand comes up and reaches for Eddie, his thumb caressing that beauty mark under his eye that Buck loves so much.
He leaves a trace of blood in its wake and that's—
He tainted Eddie.
Buck wants to apologize but he can't speak. He can't breathe.
"You have to stay awake, baby, okay?" Eddie is saying above him. "You have to hold on for me. So then you can take me on another first date— no offense but this one really fucking sucked." Eddie lets out a wet chuckle. "So we won't count this one. We'll go on another one and that one will be our first, alright? And then you'll have to take me on a second one. And a third one." Eddie says and Buck thinks that sounds like a good plan.
He likes the way Eddie thinks.
"Stay awake, Buck! Don't close your eyes." Eddie pats his cheeks a couple times and Buck's eyes flutter but he fights against uncociousness.
"W-what else?" He asks weakly, his words slurring and dragging and he's not sure if Eddie understood any of that.
But of course he did.
"W-what else?" Eddie's voice breaks but he has this small smile etched ln his face, fond and quiet and just a little sad at the edges. "Well, we'll have to let the team know about us... eventually. They all will be happy, of course. Hen will order a cake and they'll throw a ridiculous party but it'll be fun." Eddie's hand keep pressing against Buck's wound but he can barely feel it.
It doesn't really hurt.
That's really bad, isn't it?
"And then you'll move in. In a couple of months." Eddie keeps talking. "Is it too soon to talk about that? I don't think it is. We've known each other for years and this— this was inevitable, right? At least for me." Eddie's lower lip trembles. "Since the moment you shook my hand in the back of an ambulance and promised to have my back? It was a fone deal for me. I knew I would love you. I knew you would ruin me for anyone else."
Buck smiles, or at least he tries to. He's not sure if he pulls it off.
"Ditto." He rasps out, low and weak but he thinks Eddie hears it anyway by the way his eyes soften.
And then the darkness wins and Buck closes his eyes.
-
He wakes up in the back of an ambulance with his hand in between Eddie's. There's paramedics working around him but Buck doesn't care.
He keeps his eyes on Eddie.
His hair is a mess and his brown warm eyes are puffy and red around the edges. His clothes are stained red with blood and there's a trace of it on his cheek.
He looks—
Awful, Buck thinks. Eddie's skin is pale and ashen and the fluorescent lights of the ambulance aren't doing him any favors either.
And yet— it's the most beautiful thing that Buck has ever seen.
"Hey." He chokes out, the oxygen mask resting uncomfortably against his face and making forming words a little difficult.
Eddie grins, relieved and so soft, tender and adoring. "Hey."

Breaking into Villain’s warehouse certainly wasn’t easy, but Hero prided themself on getting things done. Villain was out, taking care of a gang apparently encroaching on the territory considered ‘theirs’, and Hero needed to know what Villain’s base of operations looked like. Needed to know what was going on inside, because anyone they found who might know anything was as hard to pry open as that plastic cup that Hero had accidentally wedged inside another cup the week before.
They didn’t have time to focus on inconsequential side gigs- people were disappearing, and then reappearing weeks later, fished out of the river, their bodies ripped and torn and sewn and dissected. Hero needed to know who was taking them, where they were going, how they were being taken, and why. They were pretty certain they could answer the first question.
That’s what tonight was for.
Hero dropped to the ground, dead silent. The guards had passed on their rounds a full minute before, leaving Hero a cool fifteen minutes to get from their initial opening deeper into the building.
It wasn’t smart to go in so blindly. They knew that. They also knew how many people were disappearing on average- two a week- and knew that if it was Villain, there wouldn’t be any floor plans to speak of for the building. There was nothing.
At least they were able to search the whole hallway before getting caught.
One hand was on a doorknob to slide into the next room, the other on their throwing knives in case they were about to interrupt something, when someone behind them chuckled.
“Would you like a tour?” Villain asked. “I’m happy to give you one. I’ve been looking for a second pair of eyes.”  They were standing in the darkened hallway behind Hero, leaning on the wall in a way that should have looked careless but came off as calculating. It was the same with their tone- flippant words that somehow felt ill-fitted to the person saying them.
“You’re the one who’s been running around the city asking about me,” Villain said. “If you wanted to know something, you should have asked.”
“You’re the one who’s been kidnapping all those people,” Hero shot back. They tried to spit the words, but the venom died on their tongue.
“Is that a statement or a question?” Villain said. They smiled, then, and Hero’s chest filled up with warmth. They smiled back. “Would you like to see them?”
Hero nodded, stepping forwards. They slipped their knife back into their pocket. They didn’t need it.
That wasn’t right.
Hero stopped. Blinked. What were they thinking?
“Stop it,” they said out loud.”
Villain turned, an eyebrow raised. They smiled again, sharp teeth flashing, and Hero’s chest remained resolutely cold. Good.
“You’re right. That was unfair of me.”
The rumors were right. Very little was known for certain about Villain- how long they had been in town, how far their plans extended, what their ultimate goals were- but there were rumors that they could control thoughts.
“You can control minds,” Hero stated.
“No,” Villain said. “I control everything.”
“Really. Can you control someone’s will?”
“All a will is is someone’s ability to control their emotions, their urges, their body’s responses. I control bodies. Every chemical you release, every signal your nerves sense. I control your will.” They leaned in. “Want me to make you beg?”
They were going to have to try a lot harder if they wanted a reaction out of Hero. “You seem awfully fine with me breaking into your base,” they observed.
“Even the best of us still want someone to witness,” Villain said, leaning back. “And you’re better than the others. Your fear is different.”
“Vigilantism has its perks.”
Villain chuckled at that. “Before we go down,” they said, “you have a higher threshold for fear than others, but even you aren’t immune.” Their eyes flicked over Hero’s body, clinical, fascinated. “So I’m going to give you a gift.”
“You don’t-”
“Shh,” Villain said, and Hero shut their mouth. “There’s an old bible story,” they began, “where God tells Pharaoh to free his slaves ‘or else’. Are you familiar?”
“Of course you were raised catholic,” Hero said before they could stop themself.
Villain ignored them. “The ten plagues. Famine, death, rivers of blood. But you see, there’s a very interesting part where God hardens Pharaoh’s heart, so that Pharaoh continues to refuse him. Do you know why?” They paused, as though waiting for an answer.
“I must have missed that day.”
“Fear makes us do things we wouldn’t normally do. There is no choice when we’re afraid, we’ll do anything to get rid of it. When faced with the wrath of God, there is no real decision- unless, of course, you do not fear.”
Villain tilted their head ever so slightly, eyes fixed on Hero. “I don’t want you to react out of fear. I want everything you do to be yours.”
“So, what?” Hero scoffed. “You’re god?”
“Haven’t I made my own creations?”
The bodies in the river.
“You didn’t make anything,” Hero spat. “And I don’t appreciate anyone controlling my brain.”
Villain shrugged, a half shouldered thing that felt entirely out of place on them. “That’s unavoidable. Something’s going to, and you should be happy I’m keeping the fear out of your brain rather than, say, taking some of those nerve clusters and squeezing.”
The threat felt empty. No, that wasn’t it. Hero knew Villain had that ability, and that they could kill them, but the usual trickle of ice that usually accompanied true threats simply didn’t appear. Hero couldn’t find it within themselves to tense up for a fight.
“Fear can be useful,” Hero said. “Prepares you to do what needs to be done.”
“Useful? Really?” Villain said. “You would trust your body not to betray you.”
“Yeah, I think I’d trust my body with itself more than I’d trust you.” Hero crossed their arms.
Something glinted in Villain’s eye, and they turned. “Let’s go somewhere more private,” they said, and began walking deeper into the complex.
Hero stared. Villain had turned their back on them. Was walking away, even. Hero wasn’t restrained, wasn’t even disarmed, they were just… loose. And Villain just turned their back to them.
They went for their knives. The moment they touched the blades, pain lanced up their arm.
Down the hallway, Villain sighed, turning to walk back. Their right hand was outstretched, palm up. “I suppose we can do it now.”
Hero didn’t move.
“I’m holding onto your secondary nervous system,” Villain said, voice light, like they were having afternoon tea. “Pulling out your freeze response. Feel that?”
Hero stood, staring, heart hammering, air frozen in their lungs. The muscles in their neck started to tense and untense, trying to pull in air.
“You don’t feel fear like this often,” Villain said. “It’s what makes you so much better.” They flicked their fingers.
Air rushed back in, and Hero took a step back. “I’m- that can’t possibly be the reason I’m better. I feel fear. Other people stay calm- that can’t possibly be the reason.”
“Other people don’t consistently face off against people like me.”
“You admit there are other people like you?” Hero said, more to distract Villain for a moment and regain their composure than anything.
Villain laughed. “I’m not the only one with my power.”
Hero felt the urge to stiffen- but it passed. “Others?”
“There’s no need for you to worry. If there are a thousand like me, then maybe ten are even aware they have powers- and of those, only I possess my refinement. It’s an art, you know. Teasing out responses- pulling on one chemical, pushing on another. It takes time to figure out. First poor souls I worked on-” Villain spared a glance to the side, remembering- “well, as it happens, too much of one chemical flooding your brain can trigger some unfortunate side effects. But that was years ago.”
Morbid fascination made Hero want to know exactly what happened and how, but they pushed that to the side. “How would someone not realize they could- control people? Control bodies?”
“At very low levels, it might simply be unconsciously done. They might be an exceptionally good doctor, or maybe assume they are just very persuasive. It’s easy to be charming when everyone gets a dopamine hit just by seeing you.”
They were directly in front of Hero now. “Your freeze response is a bit boring, no? Let’s try another.”
Hero grit their teeth. They needed to stop Villain- they needed Villain happy with them. Villain was angry, angry enough to hurt Hero, and Hero could- Hero could ask, they should ask, they should plead, they should- not ask forgiveness, not that, they shouldn’t ask for anything, but they could ask what they could do to help, they should apologize for breaking in, Villain, they should get on their knees right now and beg-
A shudder shook through them.
“Come on now,” Villain said. Their foot tapped on the ground, arms crossed, shoulders tight, jaw set-
“Sorry,” Hero said, the word bursting out. It wasn’t enough. It wasn’t enough. “I-” They clamped their lips shut.
Blood in the water.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry! Villain- please, I- I’m sorry, please please, I didn’t mean- I can do anything, I’ll do anything, I swear, I’m so sorry, please-” Hero’s eyes pricked with tears.
And then they didn’t. Hero blinked, still breathing hard. They studied Villain, suddenly uncaring about their stance or the slight curve at the edge of their mouth, but didn’t say anything. They didn’t know what would come out if they opened their mouth.
“You still think fear is a good thing?” Villain teased.
Hero wasn’t one to admit defeat. They needed more information on Villain, and Villain was…
They followed Villain deeper into the compound.

Not so terrible I💐✨
part 1 part 2
Anthony Bridgerton x fem!Reader
Warnings: none!
Summary: reader is Daphne's childhood best friend who has returned from studying abroad. Daphne insists that the reader accompanies her to her debut, perhaps Daphne won't be the only one catching the attention of a lord.
"It'll be fun" Daphne insists as you follow her to her bedroom "besides what better way to announce to everyone that you're back!"
"Daphne, I haven't seen these people in four years," you sigh "it's all a bit sudden to just burst into a ballroom is it not?" You make your way to Daphne's bed and she follows.
Daphne giggles, "I thought you were fond of the dramatics?"
You roll your eyes but ultimately she is right. You had taken four years abroad to study the arts- drama, literature, music, etc. but that didn't mean you had the confidence of a Shakespearean actress. As you glance at Daphne you realize how foolish you are being. You shouldn't be the one who is nervous, your childhood best friend is about to make her debut in this year's social season and all you can think about is yourself. Suddenly Daphne places her hand on yours. "Please y/n, for me?" And you realize that Daphne is just as nervous as you are. You smile and take a deep breath. "Alright-" before you can finish Daphne has started squealing and tackles you backwards onto the bed with a hug.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
You laugh, "but only because you're my best friend."
Daphne smiles as you both sit up, her eyes lighting up with the possibilities this night holds.
"I'll have to help you pick out a dress! Ooh and we can get our hair done together and you can borrow some of my rouge, I just got a new shade and-"
"Woah slow down, I don't want to outshine the future diamond of the season," you tease.
Daphne's cheeks flush, "well we don't know that for certain..."
"Oh please, don't try to be so humble," you say getting up "you will be marvelous." You take a few steps back and start walking toward Daphne, once you've reached her you give an uneven curtsey and a bow. "As long as you do better than that you shall be fine. Plenty of lords will come running to you."
Daphne laughs and you do too. It feels good to be back at home with everybody, well almost everybody. There's still one person you were hoping to see.
"Speaking of lords," Daphne says mischievously "are you sure there's no one you want to be dressing up for tonight?"
"Tonight isn't about me," you say trying to steer the conversation away from where Daphne is leading it.
"Mhmm? But if there was..." Daphne stretches out her vowels playfully.
"There isn't..." You reply, mocking Daphne's tone.
"Oh I was just teasing. Besides, I don't know what time Anthony will be back."
Your breath hitches. Obviously, as your best friend, Daphne has been entrusted to know your crushes. Although she might have found out this one for herself much to your displeasure. But it's not a big deal anymore, maybe it would've been four years ago but not now. Now it means nothing.
"Just a silly childhood crush," you say dismissingly "I've met much more, um, cultured gentlemen during my time abroad."
"Oh of course," Daphne replies jokingly.
"No I'm serious! Artists are far more charming than lords. And besides, how can I still like someone I haven't seen in four years?" You say, trying to convince yourself rather than Daphne.
"Alright, alright I believe you y/n! Now come on, let's get ready. Don't go creating worry lines before the celebration." Daphne gets up and heads towards her wardrobe, you follow.
"Oh yes, worry lines, of course. The biggest of my concerns."
"Hush now," Daphne says, "if you follow my advice, maybe I won't be the only one finding a match tonight."
You can't help but smile at the idea. It wouldn't be the most terrible thing in the world, would it? Spending the evening with your closest friend and perhaps finding someone to help you move on from Anthony. No, it wouldn't be so terrible.
"Alright Daphne, let's get ready."

↳ Chapter 13 of White Nights is UP!
(Read on ao3)
Just for tonight, he resolved to himself, tracing Kinn’s eyelashes with his eyes. The man had fallen asleep somewhere between 4 a.m. and 6. His chest was moving in deep, steady breaths, his nipples peaked. He looked so innocent in sleep, so graceless. He looked just like a boy. Porsche could even imagine him as one, tonight, in this room. Just a boy that Porsche likes, and desperately wants. So Porsche turned on his side and slept close to Kinn, letting the rise and fall of his chest sedate him, the rhythm of his breaths a lullaby. No nightmares visited him that night, no tangled dreams of repression and want, and death. He had slept soundly in the deepest darkness of his mind, where he had met the boy Kinn once was, before he had been divested of all that he had been.

Hold My Hand: John Wick x Reader Chapter 149
Tumblr media
warnings: dual pov, a slight nsfw moment, and well, a car crash lmao, so mentions of injuries and blood
On top of it being inventory week, it’s also the weekend of a huge sale that you’re having down at the shop. You and John have been doing inventory all week so that you’re done by the time you have the sale on Saturday, but you’ve closed the shop a little early tonight and the employees were nice enough to stay back and help out, which makes you happy. It’s becoming such a little family there and you love the way that feels. It’s nice having a good group of people to work with.
“I got some pizza!” John announces, and you look over your shoulder and laugh, “And I also got a side order of one chunky baby.”
“Just what I ordered!” you smile as you get up and walk over to take Ronan’s stroller, then you lean down and smile at her as she kicks her legs and babbles, “Did you miss us? Because we missed you!”
Ronan giggles and reaches up for you, and you take her out and kiss her cheek before you look at John and smile at him. He walks over to set the boxes of pizza on the counter, then he puts the soda on the counter too.
“Oh, I got some plates in the back.” you hold tight to Ronan and skip a little to make her laugh, then you chomp on the crook of her neck to hear her laugh even harder. “I missed you, bug.”
You grab the paper plates that you brought from home and the napkins, then you hand the plastic red cups to Ronan so she can carry them for you. She chews on the rim of one and drools all over it, and you laugh as you walk back out to join everyone.
“Are you helping your mom?” Tony laughs as he leans down to look at her, but Ronan grows bashful and hides her face in your chest, “Oh, you’re hiding from me?”
“She’s getting really bashful lately. It’s so cute.” you laugh, then you tickle her tummy, “Say hi.”
Ronan giggles when you tickle her, then she looks over when she hears John’s voice as he talks to Katie. John glances over at the two of you as he talks to her, then he smiles and walks over, wrapping his arms around the two of you.
“My girls.” he whispers in the crook of your neck, then he leans over to kiss Ronan, “Apparently she was very good for Grandma and Grandpa today. Not that I’d expect anything less.”
You hand Ronan over to John and pry the plastic cups from her hand, then you quickly give the one back that she was chewing on before she has a meltdown. You set the cups and plates down by the boxes of pizza, then you gesture for everyone to get something to eat.
“Big sale this weekend,” you say, and John nods, “You prepared to be stuck with me all weekend at work and at home?”
John laughs as he looks down at you, “Wouldn’t want to be stuck with anyone else.”
“I’ll go grab her walker so we don’t have to hold her.” you say, then you quickly head into the office to get Ronan’s walker.
She’s only 7 months old, so she can’t walk yet but she loves her walker. She has one at home and one at the shop so she can walk around while you and John are working. No complaints for customers so far, which is good. But who would complain? She’s pretty damn cute.
John looks over his shoulder when you bring the walker out, then he puts her in it and kisses the top of her head before she takes off. He lets out a laugh when she walks over to Grace and Tony, then he looks at you and smiles.
“Get something to eat, baby.” he rubs your back and smiles at you, and you take his hand to pull him with you.
You both grab some pizza and bread sticks, then you walk over to join everyone sitting at the little table in the children’s section. You gesture for John to take the bigger chair, then you sit on the floor for about two seconds before you remember Ronan’s bag has some snacks for her. You grab some crackers and a banana, then you head back out to hear everyone laughing.
Ronan is blowing raspberries and laughing every time Grace playfully reaches forward to squeeze her chunky little thigh, and she tilts her head back and laughs while John looks on so proudly.
The moment Ronan sees that you have a bright yellow banana in your hand, she reaches out and smacks her lips together. John locks the wheels on her walker so she can’t move while she’s eating, and you set a few crackers down for her to eat, which she immediately grabs and stuffs her into mouth.
“So,” Katie smiles at you, “How’s parenthood?”
You look over at John as he laughs, then you nod your head, “Fun. It’s really fun, to be honest. She’s learning something new every day and she’s really starting to babble and talk more now. Being parents has brought John and I closer too, which I’m grateful for. You either grow closer or grow apart, I swear, but we’re closer now.”
“Seeing her as a mom…” John nods his head as he reaches for your hand and presses a kiss to the back of it, “Best thing ever.”
“Aw!” Katie smiles, putting her hand over her heart, “Stop! You’re still so sweet.”
John laughs when you look at him, “She’s a good mom! She’s really good at this. It came so naturally to her even though she was worried at first.”
You nod as you look over at Ronan and hand her a piece of banana, then you laugh when they all watch you hide your face in your hands since you’re tearing up. John rubs your back and kisses the top of your head, and you tilt your head back to look at him as he smiles.
“I know she’s still so young, but do you two plan to have more?” Grace asks, and you nod your head and laugh when she clenches her fist and smiles. “More bookshop babies!”
You look over at Katie as she places her hand on her stomach for a moment, then you hold her gaze and furrow your brow a little, silently asking if she’s okay.
Katie laughs, then she slouches a little, “Ugh, I can’t hide it anymore. I’m pregnant! I’m 8 weeks pregnant.”
“Holy shit!” you get up and walk over to hug her, “Congratulations!”
“Thank you.” she laughs, then she hugs Grace who is so excited for more babies in the shop.
You look over at John and widen your eyes, then you sit down next to him and smile when he leans down to kiss you. He looks over your shoulder and nods to Ronan as she smiles and reaches out to touch Tony’s face when he leans down and whispers to her. She giggles loudly when he kisses her cheek, then she smacks her hands on her walker and practically screams. John lightly scratches his fingers on Ronan’s head when he walks past, and she reaches up for him.
“Congratulations,” John says to Katie, and you look over as he leans down to hug her. “Let us know if you need anything.”
You watch John as he walks over to put his plate in the trash and you notice him reach down and rub his left knee a little before he bends it a few times. He catches you watching him, and he shakes his head when you raise your eyebrows at him.
His knee has bothered him for as long as you can remember, and it always makes you worry. He says it gets sore but that it’s nothing to worry about, but you do, of course. The pain usually goes away when he takes some ibuprofen but that’s not the point. It’s been hurting him for years now.
John shakes his head and puts his hand up when you open your mouth to say something, then he laughs when you furrow your brow and pout. He walks into the office, and you get up to follow him.
You close the door a little and walk over to him, “John, it’s bothering you.”
“I’m fine.” he says, leaning back against the desk, “It’s probably going to rain or something.”
You roll your eyes, “It’s not suppose to rain this weekend. And I’m pretty sure that’s something some guy made up to get his wife to stop nagging him about getting his god damn knees fixed.”
John takes a deep breath and exhales as he looks at you, “Baby, I’m fine. Stop worrying.”
“I’m your wife! It’s my job to worry!” you say as you walk over to him, reaching for his hands, “Your knee has been bothering you since before we even met, and I know it bothers you a lot. You’re in pain, and I hate to see it. If you’re in pain, please, just go to the doctor.”
“I’m okay.” he whispers, and you groan as you walk away from him.
You roll your eyes as you walk out to clean up the pizza, but you smile when you feel Ronan’s walker bumping into your leg. You look down at her and pinch her cheek, then you throw the empty pizza boxes into the trash.
John is stubborn. He’s always been stubborn. If he doesn’t want to do something, he won’t. If he wants something, he’ll stop at nothing until he has it. He’s just a stubborn man, but it’s one of your favorite things about him. It’s how he was lead to you. If he had just said ‘okay, I’m done’, he never would have gotten out and come back to Mill Neck to meet you, so of course it’s one of your favorite things about him. But it’s also really fucking frustrating sometimes.
Ronan crying breaks you from your thoughts, and you reach down to get her from the walker as she rubs her hands against her face. She’s clearly getting tired.
“We’re about to go home, baby.” you whisper to her, rubbing her back as she lays against your chest. You push her walker with your foot into the office, then you grab your backpack and keys as John looks over his shoulder at you. “I’m gonna head home, she’s getting tired.”
John nods, “I’ll be home in about an hour or so. There’s not much left here that I need to do.”
“Okay.” you hold his gaze, then you sigh when he turns back around. “You’re not going to say goodbye to your wife and daughter?”
John walk over to you and leans down to kiss Ronan’s cheek, “Love you, bug. I’ll see you in a little bit.”
You scoff when John walks away from you, “Yeah, love you too.”
“You’re being stubborn.”
“No, you’re being stubborn.” you say, and John shakes his head and smiles a little before he leans down to kiss you. “I’ll see you at home.”
John kisses you again and rubs his thumb over your cheek, “I’ll be home soon.”
You look around to make sure that you have everything, then you wave at John and leave the office. You wave at everyone as they continue to go through boxes, and you laugh when Ronan waves at them too.
“Bye, everyone.” you smile, then you head out to your car parked out front.
Ronan is pretty quiet as you get her in the car and buckled up, then you pinch her cheek a little and smile when she scrunches her face up and looks at you.
“We’ll get you all bathed and ready for bed by the time daddy is home.” you smile at her, then you kiss her cheek.
Getting in the car, you look in the mirror and check to make sure Ronan is still awake, then you turn on the car and drive down the street. You slowly stop when you see the big orange signs saying the road is closed, and you sigh a little.
“I forgot all about that construction.” you say to yourself, then you look back at Ronan to see her chewing on her hand. You look around to make sure you’re in the clear, then you quickly do a u-turn and head back past the shop to go the long way around.
You’re really hoping Ronan doesn’t fall asleep in the car since she’ll just fuss and cry when you try to get her out, and you’re not in the mood for her to cry. You just want to get her home, bathed, and ready for bed so that you can go to bed. It’s been a really long day.
Slowing up to the stop sign, you look left and right to make sure you’re clear to pull across the intersection, then you lightly press the gas and drive across it. From the corner of your eye, you see headlights coming from your right, and you look over to see the car just flying down the street. It’s coming fast. It’s coming fast as hell, and there’s no way that you can move. Either you get hit in the front or you try to pull forward and put Ronan in even more danger.
It doesn’t matter what you think you should do. There’s no time.
“I’m so sorry, baby. Just hold on!” you say, then you scrunch your face up and embrace for impact.
You’re jolted to the left from the force of the collusion, and your head smacks hard against the glass window, causing you to grow dizzy and disoriented. You blink a few times and try to get your eyes to focus but your head hurts so bad that all you want to do is close your eyes. You finally open them and blink, then you frantically unbuckle yourself and put the car in park before you crawl into the backseat to check on Ronan who is crying.
“What do I do?” you cry as you look around, then you get out of the backseat and yell as the car that hit you drives away, “Hey! Hey! Get back here!”
“Miss, are you okay? I’ve called 911,” an older man says as he walks over to you, then he hears Ronan crying in the back, “Oh, miss, you need to get to the hospital. You need to get there now, you’re bleeding.”
You stare at him as he walks closer to you, “I don’t know what to do!”
You’re paralyzed with fear. Do you stay here? Do you get in the car and drive away to get Ronan to the hospital so they can check on her? Is your car even good enough to drive at this point? What do you do?
“I…I have to go.” you say, nodding your head. “I have to get her to the hospital.”
You look over when you see a police cruiser pulling up, then you go back to your car and get Ronan’s car seat out. You carefully carry it with you over to the police car, then you look at him and cry.
“Get in.” he nods, opening the door for you.
You cautiously get her car seat into the back of the car, then you buckle her in and look over to see the older man talking to the police office just as another one pulls up.
“I’ll stay here. I saw the whole thing.” he nods, then he reaches down and holds your hand, “I hope you’ll both be okay.”
“Thank you.” you nod, then you close the door when the officer gets in the car and turns on his sirens.
The police officer calls into the hospital to let them know he’s in transit with a baby, and you scoot over and try to calm her down as she cries, but she’s just screaming loudly. You lean your head against her car seat and rub your thumb over her cheek, then you close your eyes and cry.
__
As soon as the car pulls up to the entrance, nurses flocks to you. They open the door and help you as they call in big medical terms that you don’t know. One nurse takes Ronan from you and rushes inside with her and you follow her until another nurse walks up and starts looking into your eyes with a flashlight.
“My baby…” you push one nurse off of you and look around for Ronan.
“She’s fine. They’re just looking at her. Miss, please sit down so we can look at you.” she says, and you sit down and look up at her as she checks your eyes.
You look around to see where they took Ronan, then you stand up, “My husband, I need…I need to call him.”
“We can’t let you do that right now,” she shakes her head, putting her hands out to get you to sit back down. “We need to make sure you don’t have any bleeding in your brain. You need to go in for an MRI.”
“I’m fine! Let me please just see my baby!” you scream so loud that you swear a hush falls over the entire emergency room.
The nurse swallows nervously and looks over her shoulder a little before people start to mind their own business again, then she looks at you , “She’s fine, miss, but you need to calm down.”
“If you don’t move and let me see my baby…” you hold her gaze and narrow your eyes, “I won’t hesitate to hit you.”
“I’m sure, but you need to sit down, miss.”
You stare at her for a moment, then you sit back down on the bed and put your head in your hands as you cry.
John has no idea that you’re here. He has no clue that you’ve been in an accident. You don’t even have your bag with you. You left everything in the car. You don’t even have your phone to call him! He has no idea what’s happened.

**
I walk around the shop to make sure nothing is out of place, then I walk over and turn off the lights before I lock up for the night. I get the keys from my pocket and lock the door, then I get in my car and start it up.
Reaching down, I rub my hand over my left knee a few times, then I shake my head, “She’s right, you idiot.”
Y/N is right. My knee causes me pain. I don’t know why I don’t at least call and get a consultation. With the little one at home now, I want to be able to keep up with her. I like to crawl on the floor and play with her, and I can’t keep doing that if my knee is getting worse. Sure I might be out for a few weeks while I recover, but it’ll be better in the long run. I’ll definitely have some apologizing to do when I get home.
I remember that there’s some construction happening down the street, so I head the opposite way to get home. I pull up to the corner and see there’s something going on down the street a little, and I contemplate going down another block to get around it. I continue looking down at the red and blue lights from the cop cars as they flash, but for some weird reason, I turn to go down to it.
As soon as I get closer, I see it. Y/N’s car. I feel my heart sink to my stomach like never before, and I put my car in park before I quickly run over.
This can’t be happening. This wasn’t supposed to happen. This can’t happen!
“Sir,” the police officer stops me, then he lets go when he realizes who I am, “They’re at the hospital.”
I don’t even say anything to the cop. I just turn around and run back to my car. I get in and press hard on the gas as I pull away, then I drive like a bat out of hell to the hospital.
__
I walk into the emergency department and scan every bed for Y/N, then I finally spot her sitting on a bed with her knees pulled closed to her chest and her chin resting on them, black streaks of makeup down her face along with bright red blood on her forehead and temple.
“Y/N!” I call out, and she looks at me and starts to cry as I rush over to her, crashing into one another’s arms. I look over her bloody face and gently touch the cut on her forehead, then I lean down to kiss her as she spirals. “What happened? Are you okay? Who did this?”
“She’s okay! She’s okay, but they took her. I don’t know where she is, and they wouldn’t let me go with because they think I need some stupid MRI, but I’m fine. I just hit my head a little…” she gasps for air as she cries, “I couldn’t call you, they…they…they wouldn’t let me and I left my phone in the car, but I wanted to call you. I wanted you to know where we were! I’m so sorry.”
I hug her close to my chest and close my eyes, feeling them burn from the tears, “Hey, it’s okay. You did what you should have done: got Ronan to safety. I would have done the same thing.”
“They told me that she’s okay.”
I nod as I lean back to look at her, then I move her hair a little to see the deep gash across her forehead, “What about you?”
“I’m fine,” she brushes my hand away and looks around.
“No, look at me,” I say, and she looks up at me so I can inspect her cut. I look around for a nurse, then I gesture for the woman to check out Y/N. “She needs some help.”
Y/N perks up, “Where’s our daughter?”
A nurse walks over and smiles, “Your baby is fine. She’s in our daycare right now while you get looked at. We just need to make sure that you’re okay.”
“I’m fine, I just want to see her.” Y/N says, “Just let me see her please.”
The nurse nods, “Now that you have someone here, we’ll get you into a room and bring her to you.”
I reach for Y/N’s hand and walk with her as the nurse leads us to a room away from the emergency department, and I feel Y/N squeezing my hand tight. The nurse gestures for her to sit on the bed, then she gets out some gloves and walks over to look at her forehead.
“We still want to get you an MRI, but you needed you to calm down first.”
“Sorry I threatened to punch you.” she whispers, and I furrow my brow and look at her. “That’s not me.”
The nurse gently touches her shoulder, “I know. Had it been me, I would have done the same thing. Never come between a mom and her baby. I’ll call someone to bring her down here before we take you for that MRI.”
I smile at the nurse as she leaves, then I look at Y/N, “You threatened to hit her?”
“She wouldn’t let me see Ronan.” she says, and I let out a small laugh before we both tear up. She looks down as she cries, then she reaches for my hand and scoots over so I can sit next to her. “I just want to go home.”
I wrap my arm around her and nod, “I know but we gotta make sure you’re alright in the noggin.”
“Don’t make me laugh right now. I feel like shit,” she whispers, and I pull her closer to kiss her shoulder. “I just want to be with you and Ronan on the couch.”
“We’ll be home soon.” I nod, then I look over when there’s a knock at the door. I immediately get up and take Ronan from the nurse, and I hug her tight and kiss her. “Hey, bug.”
The nurses smiles softly, “She was just a little shaken up by the whole ordeal but there’s not a scratch on her. She’s perfectly fine.”
“Thank you,” Y/N smiles, then she reaches up and takes Ronan.
I nod at the nurse as she closes the door, then I sit down on the bed and wrap my arms around my girls as we all cry. I sniffle as I lean back to look at them, then I kiss Y/N a few times before hugging them both tight in my arms.
We’re finally pulled apart by the door opening and a nurse coming in to get Y/N for an MRI. She looks back at me with huge worried eyes, and I carry Ronan with and follow as Y/N is taken down the hall.
“Just wait out here, sir.” the nurse says, and I nod as I sit down on the chair.
I look at Ronan as she reaches out for her mom and cries, and I bounce her a little and kiss her cheek in hopes of calming her down. She’s probably so tired right now too. I get her to lay against my chest, then I slowly sway from side to side as I wait.
__
The doors open as Y/N steps out, and she smiles and shakes her head when I look at her in concern, letting me know she’s not hurt. She walks over and sits down next to me, and I notice the gash on her forehead is now clean and stitched up. I inspect it to make sure it’s good though. The nurse who brought her in comes out and sits down next to us with a few pieces of paper.
“So, she just has a mild concussion. We want to restrict any activity, of course. Just get lots of rest.” she says, then she looks at me, cocking up her brow as to say it’s my job to make sure she rests.
I nod my head, “I’ll take care of her.”
Y/N looks at me and smiles softly before she sighs, “Can we go home now?”
I nod, “Yeah. I called your mom and Tess. They’re coming over as soon as we’re home.”
“I figured.” she says as she gets up, then she looks at me, “I left my backpack in my car. I haven’t even thought about everything with my car.”
I carefully place Ronan in her car seat, then I pick it up and wrap my arm around Y/N’s shoulder, “It’ll be fine. We can drive by it on the way home. I’m sure they’ve dropped your bag off at home or something.”
Y/N inhales deeply and nods, “Is she okay?”
“Just tired.” I nod, then I lean down to kiss Y/N’s cheek, “Let’s get you home.”
__
Y/N is laying on the couch with a huge blanket over her, and Ronan is sleeping on her chest. I walk over and sit down with them, then I reach over to move her hair away from her head to see the stitches.
I feel guilty. I feel like shit seeing my wife like this. It was my idea for us to drive separately this morning. If I had just driven her myself, we would have left at the same time and not been in an accident.
The front door opens as Tess and Bev both rush in with Jimmy and Dan behind them, and Y/N presses her finger to her lips and points at Ronan.
“I can take her,” I whisper, and Y/N looks at me, “Let me take her.”
**
You hand Ronan over to John after you kiss her cheek, then you sit up and hug both your mom and Tess as you cry. Your mom smooths your hair back and looks at the stitches on your forehead, then she kisses your cheek.
“What happened?” Tess asks as she wipes the tears off her cheek.
“I was leaving the shop and forgot that there was that construction right down the road, so I had to turn around. I went back past the shop, then I turned and thought I’d head a few blocks down to Horseshoe Road, then I’d just turn and be on our street.” you say, then you look at John as he sits on the coffee table, “I pulled through the intersection and this car came out of no where. I had…maybe 10 seconds to figure out what to do. I either stay where I am and they hit the front passenger side of the car and I possibly get hurt, or I try to pull through the intersection and they hit the back half of the car. I knew there was only one answer. It was either I get hurt or Ronan possibly gets hurt. I made the right decision.”
Your mom smiles as she reaches forward to cup your face, “And you’re both safe because of it.”
“They hit the front passenger’s side and it jolted me over to the window where I hit my head…” you touch the stitches and exhale, “I have a concussion but there’s no bleeding or anything in my brain.”
Tess shakes her head as she holds your right hand, “And Ronan is okay?”
“Yeah, she was just shaken up by the whole thing but she’s fine. She wasn’t hurt at all.” you nod, then you look over at John as you tear up. “They wouldn’t even let me call John when I got there. He didn’t even know we were there.”
John nods as everyone looks at him, “I only knew because I drove past her car.”
“So what happened to whoever was in the other car?” Jimmy asks, and you shrug. “I’ll call down to the station tomorrow and ask.”
“Thanks, man.” John nods, reaching back to shake his hand. “When we left the hospital, we drove past and didn’t see anything where the accident happened, well, there was some pieces of the car, but the car was gone so they must have just towed it. Her backpack was here by the door when we got home though. I’ll have to call around tomorrow and see where they took her car.”
You nod, “Yeah, well, I don’t plan on driving for a while. John can drive me everywhere.”
“Fine with me,” he laughs as he reaches over for your hand.
“I’m so glad you’re okay, sweetheart.” Dan says, and you get up so you can hug him and Jimmy.
Jimmy hugs you tight as he rubs your back, “I’ll call down there tomorrow and see if anyone knows anything. We’ll figure out who it was.”
“Thanks,” you smile, then you sit back down on the couch.
John holds your gaze when you look at him, then he looks down and sighs softly before shaking his head. You look over at your mom when she notices, and she touches your arm and smiles, tilting her head slightly toward John. You smile softly and nod.
You know that John is feeling guilty. You know he’s probably blaming himself too.
“We better get out of here and let you get some rest.” she smiles, and you nod. “Let me know if there’s anything we can do for you all.”
“We will,” you hug her and close your eyes, then you let go to hug Tess.
John gets up from the table and walks everyone out while you wait on the couch, and you see him walking down the driveway with your mom to her car. You sit up a little and watch him put his hand over his face as your mom hugs him, and you frown since you know he’s upset. He waves at Jimmy and Tess as they leave, then he waves at your mom and dad when they get in their car.
Instead of coming back to the house, John walks down the driveway and disappears behind the hedges for a moment before he walks back up with the mail in his hand. He looks around the yard and watches Bleu as he runs around, then he comes back into the house.
You smile at him as you lay back on the couch, then you take the mail that he’s handing you. Just some coupons and other unimportant stuff. You toss them onto the coffee table, then you look up at John.
“God, I can’t even look at you…” he whispers, looking down as he sits on the coffee table, “Every time I look at you, I just see that cut on your forehead and the bruises--”
“I have bruises now?”
John lets out a small laugh, “Yeah, just a few little ones around here.”
You flinch a little when John lightly touches the arch of your eyebrow. You reach up and touch it, then you sigh and sit back on the couch as you look at him. You smile a little and pat the spot next to you, and John gets up to sit with you.
You both sit there and stare ahead in silence, then you look down when John reaches over and intertwines his fingers with yours. You look up at him and see the tears in his eyes, and you sit up more to wrap your arms around him and hold him.
“I was so scared…” he whispers, and you nod your head, “When I saw your car, I…I just thought…”
“I know,” you lean back and look at him, “I know, and it’s my fault that I didn’t call you.”
John shakes his head, “No, it’s not. You wanted to make sure Ronan was okay. I would have done the same thing.”
“No, John Wick would have never gotten in the accident in the first place, and if he had, he would have been smart enough to remember to grab his phone to call his wife.”
“You were scared.” he says firmly, “You were scared. You didn’t know what to do. You had just been hit by another car and you got hurt. I don’t blame you at all for not calling me.”
You cry as John cups your face and kisses your forehead, “I just wanted her to be okay.”
“And she is.” he whispers, and you feel a warm tear sliding down your cheek. “She is perfectly fine. She’s upstairs sleeping like a rock. She’s still here with us because of you! Because you put her before yourself, exactly what mothers do. You protected our baby.”
Sitting back on the couch, you wipe away the tears on your face and look at John as you nod. He lets go of your face and looks down as he holds your hands.
“Are you upset with me?”
“Why would I be?” you ask, shaking your head.
John sighs, “Because we got into an argument before you left.”
“No, John,” you shake your head as you cry, “I’m not mad at you.”
“I didn’t…” John gets choked up and looks down, then he looks at you, “I didn’t tell you that I love you before you left. I didn’t do it on purpose, it’s not like I was trying to hurt you or anything. I just…didn’t say it. I didn’t even realize I didn’t…” he looks down and shakes his head, “The only time I haven’t said it to you and my whole life flashed before my eyes. When I saw your car and saw you weren’t in it, I realized that the last time I saw you, I didn’t even tell you that I loved you.”
You reach out to cup John’s face, then you rest your forehead against his as you both cry. You move closer to him and wrap your arms around his neck, and he hugs you tight to his chest before he sits back on the couch. You both have no plans on letting go, so you move a little to straddle his waist so you’re more comfortable.
“I love you,” he whispers, and you lean back to look at him, “I love you more than anything in this world. Please don’t ever think that I don’t.”
You let out small laugh as you smooth his hair back, “I know you love me. I know you do.”
“I said it to Ronan but I didn’t say it to you.” he shakes his head and looks down, “I don’t know why I didn’t say it.”
“I didn’t say it either.” you sit back a little and tilt his chin up, “I didn’t say it to you, but you know that I love you. We were upset with each other.”
John sighs, “But I always say it. I always say it. Even when we’re fighting.”
“So, you didn’t this time and the universe showed you that you fucked up and not to do it again,” you smile, and John lets out a small laugh. “I don’t have it in me to be mad, and I wouldn’t be mad anyway. Neither of us could have known this was going to happen. We thought we’d see each other at home later and we’d talk things out.”
“Yeah…” he nods as he looks down at your hands.
You know he still feels guilty for not saying it, but you’re really not upset with him. Neither of you knew this was going to happen. Sure, you got into a tiny spat at work but you knew that you’d talk it out when he got home.
“Do I look tough?” you ask, and John laughs as he looks at you, a little taken aback, “I’m thinking about lying and saying that I battled a bear or something.”
“Yeah, that’ll be believable. My tiny little wife fighting a bear.” he smiles, then he pulls you down to kiss him. He wraps his arms around you as you cup his face, then he moves his left hand down to rest on your hip. “I love you.”
You smile softly as you nod, “I love you too.”
“Can’t believe you threatened that poor nurse.”
“I know, I feel so bad about it,” you laugh as you play with the neck of his shirt, “I’m going to get her some flowers and go down there to apologize again tomorrow.”
John laughs as he cups your face, “You’re so sweet.”
You wrap your arms around his neck as the two of you kiss, and he places his hands on your waist as you grind on him. You run your fingers through his thick hair and suck on his tongue, then you move to kiss his cheek before you suck on his neck. John sneaks his hands into the back of your shorts as you roll your hips, and you sit up to look at him.
“I think we should go upstairs.” you whisper, and he lets out a small laugh before he glances up at your stitches. “I’m okay.”
John kisses you softly, then he waits for you to get off of him before he gets up. You both lock up and turn off all the lights, then you head upstairs, both automatically turning to head to Ronan’s room.
You open the door and walk over to see Ronan fast asleep in her bed. John reaches down and rubs his finger over her cheek, then he leans over so he can kiss her. You’re not tall enough to lean over the side of her crib to kiss her, so you get the foot stool and stand on it so you can kiss her cheek, which makes John laugh.
“I love you,” John whispers to her, “Don’t ever forget that. I love you and mom very much.”
Looking over at John, you see a tear slide down his cheek, but he quickly wipes it away. He leans down to kiss her again, then he looks up at you and laughs when he realizes you’re taller than him on the stool. You lean down to kiss Ronan again, then you push the stool back over to its place next to the rocker.
Obviously John was scared that he was going to lose you and Ronan, and you don’t blame him for thinking that since you certainly would too if the roles had been reversed.
You hold his hand as you walk down to the bedroom with him, then you walk over to get your pajamas out. You’re curious to see what your forehead looks like, so you walk over to the mirror and look at yourself. Your chin wobbles a little when you see the stitches on your forehead and the fresh bruises on your face, and you close your eyes and try to not think about how you got them and how absolutely terrifying tonight has been.
John stands behind you and looks at you through the mirror when you open your eyes, then he wraps his arms around you and leans down to kiss your shoulder.
“You still look beautiful,” he whispers, and you lean back in his arms and smile. “I’m so glad that you’re okay. I can’t lose you. I can’t.”
You look over your shoulder at him and hold his gaze, then you reach up and kiss him as you turn around to face him. He wraps his arms around you as the two of you kiss, then he lifts you up and carries you over to the bed where he sits back and leans against the headboard.
Looking into John’s eyes, you smile softly and rub your thumb against his beard, then you lean down and kiss him before he pulls you closer and hugs you tight.
__
John is laying so close to you that he’s out of focus but you don’t care. You stare into his blurry brown eyes as a candle flickers on the nightstand behind him, then you smile when he moves his hand up your back to pull you to his lips. He hums softly as he kisses you deeply, then he presses soft kisses to your forehead and over the stitches.
“This sure is a turn of events,” you whisper, and he leans back. “When we first started dating, I would be the one taking care of you and gently kissing your stitches.”
“Yeah,” he sighs.
He didn’t like that comparison.
“I’m okay.” you whisper, and he nods his head before he closes his eyes.
It’s pretty dark in the bedroom so you can’t quite see John, but you roll him over to his back and see the tear sliding down his cheek. You lean over his chest and gently rub your thumb over his cheek, then you smile when he opens his eyes and sits up to lean against the headboard. You pull the sheet up to cover your breasts, then you reach over for his hand as he puts his head down and cries.
“It’s okay,” you whisper, moving closer to his side to hold him as he silently sobs. “We’re okay. Ronan and I are perfectly okay.”
John wraps his arms around you tight and holds you in his arms, and you hear him softly crying into your neck. Hearing him cry only makes you cry, so you sniffle loudly and close your eyes.
“I’m not going anywhere.” you whisper to him, and he hugs you tighter. “Baby, look at me.”
John leans back and sniffles, “I’d be lost without you.”
“And I would be too,” you whisper, cupping his face, “But I’m okay.”
“I’m not letting you and Ro out of my sight.”
You laugh as you nod, “And we don’t want to be out of your sight. We’re kind of obsessed with you if you haven’t noticed.”
John cups your face and kisses you softly, then he looks at you as his eyes soften, “I thought I lost you.”
“I know.” you nod, then you look down as you cry, “I can’t imagine how scared you were.”
“Terrified. I thought I lost the best things that have ever happened to me,” he whispers, then he looks at you again with his big eyes full of tears. “You and Ronan are everything to me. Losing you would be fate worse than death. I can’t lose another--”
You both look at each other when he stops talking, and you nod your head as you smile softly, “I know. I know, John. But listen, I’m not going anywhere. Ronan is not going anywhere. We’re here. Right here. Right now. We’re not leaving you. And you’re not leaving us. You’re not leaving me. Okay?”
“I love you two more than anything in this world.” he whispers, his voice a little shaky, “I love you so much.”
“I love you too,” you smile as you lean up to kiss him, “Can we just keep kissing now?”
You let out a little wince when John touches the side of your face, and he grimaces when you open your eyes to look at him. The corner of his mouth turns up a little as he pulls you closer to him, then he closes his eyes and brings his lips to yours for a soft delicate kiss as he lays you back on the bed. Your face hurts but kissing him takes the pain away. It completely dissolves when he’s kissing you. Everything dissolves when he kisses you. It’s always been that way.
John pulls the blankets up as he moves to lay on top of you again, and your breath hitches when he slowly slides back between your legs, your eyes closing the moment his lips come in contact with your neck. John presses gentle kisses to your cheek and temple over your bruises, and you smile to yourself. Moving your hand down to John’s waist, you wrap your leg around him and moan in the crook of his neck as he begins to pant in your ear.
Your face isn’t going to be the only thing sore tomorrow.

"hey, Davey." Angel entered the kitchen. Grin spread wide on their face.
David smiled at the look on his mates face. "hi, Angel." The shifter walked up to his mate. Pulling them close to his chest. And just holding them. Their cheek against his chest. His arms around their waist.
Angel sighed with contentment. "Are you cooking?"
"No. I'm playing with puppies." the sarcasm rolled of his tongue.
They laughed "I'd love to see you play with puppies. You would look adorable."
The shifter groaned. Mumbling under his breath. "Jesus Christ."
"I am an alpha. I do not look adorable. You menace." David scowled at his mate as they walked way. Shit eating grin plastered on their face as they laughed.
Angel walked over to the piano. They and David bought it a while back. After he heard them play the piano at the vacation house the pack stayed in. And to say Angel took advantage of it was an understatement.
David stared at his mate lovingly as they started to play the chords of the song.
"you're all I ever wanted." They had the voice of an angel ( authors note: *snorts* no pun intended. well actually kinda intended, it's such an eh thing to say but I just have to leave this here.)
"so how come I'm so haunted by the thoughts inside my head?"
what are they on about?
"you love me... but no matter what you say there's only one of two ways that this is gonna end."
What?
"someone dies or someone gets hurt... but if one of us dies." David heard a sharp intake of breath.
something's wrong
he heard his mate still singing. Only out of breath. They're voice cracking as they sang.
shit
"I don't wanna live without you..." their voice was trembling.
"I don't wanna ever learn... how to-" a sob broke lose from their chest "how to fall asleep without you." they kept playing. Their tears falling to the piano. They're voice shaking. Lungs burning. Trying their hardest to breathe.
"Angel... what's wrong baby?" David sank to his knees beside them. Placing a hand on their thigh. The other to their shoulder.
"tell me what's worse.. lose-" they took in a sharp intake of air "no-no-no. please. god. no-." they panicked.
''hey.. fuck. angel, I'm here. you're safe. I'm here." the shifter stood. Picking up his mate. Placing them on his lap. Holding them close. One arm around their waist. The other cradling the back of Angels head. As they sobbed incoherent words to his chest.
David whispered "Angel. it's okay. I'm here. you're safe. I won't let anything happen to you."
"I don't- I don't wanna lose you... now or later. it doesn't matter. I don't wanna lose you, Davey." their chest heaving from the weight of their sobs.
"you are not gonna lose me angel.... I love you, I'm not going anywhere." the shifter whispered "tell me what's wrong baby..."
"if one of us die-" their breathing became more rapid again. Their lungs burning. Sight becoming foggy.
"Angel focus. listen to my voice. feel my arms around you."
What the hell happened to them?
"deep breaths come on. In-" they inhaled "Out-" they exhaled.
"good, yeah. keep going." the shifter listened to his mates breathing growing more steady. Rubbing small shapes on their thigh in attempt to calm them down.
"The song I was playing reminded me of you..... and then I thought of everything that happened a few months ago with the-" they took a sharp intake of air wincing as they did. David nodded letting them know he understood. They didn't need to say more.
They sniffed "I thought I was going to lose you and.... that terrified me Davey... I don't know what I would do without you..."
"I love you, angel. You're not gonna lose me. Never."
"I love you too Davey.... The food is burning by the way, might wanna check on that." they laughed into David's chest as he groaned.
The shifter lifted Angel of his lap. Getting up to fix the burning mess in their kitchen. "keep playing.. please."
Angel readjusted themselves continuing where they left off. "if one of us dies... I hope I die first."
"the fuck you will." David mumbled entering the kitchen.

18 skinny/ty?
[morning after prompts]
Thanks for the prompt! Vor allem mit dem Pairing, ich schreib viel zu selten über die beiden!
18. "I don't remember what happened last night. I think I need a reminder. A physical reminder." "Shut the fuck up." + Skinny/Ty
Instinktiv boxte er zurück, was ihm genuschelten Protest einbrachte.

Another little Byler one-shot! You’ll have to get pining Mike out of my cold dead hands.
Mike is currently in a crisis. Quite clearly it wasn’t being the best vacation ever. El had been taken… somewhere, and they had almost died in a shoot out. So yeah, it really wasn’t high on his list. He had been excited, truly. He had promised himself that he would make this El’s best time ever. And that he would see Will and act normal towards his best friend, and then he screwed up as soon as he stepped off the plane. But it wasn’t his fault, right? He was just shocked.
When the Byers left, Will was shorter, smaller, face round and hair longer. He remembers how he felt when they hugged goodbye. But now? Will had changed. A lot. Hair shorter, frame bigger, jaw sharp, eyes blinding with happiness and hope when he first saw his best friend. So when Will went in for the full on hug… Mike panicked and patted him on the shoulder instead. And he knew he messed up just as soon as he did it. He could see Will’s smile disappearing and his shoulders falling. Mike had tried to redirect the conversation to something else, the painting, of course, and that somehow made the situation worse.
The thing was that Mike was aware. He was very aware that Will kept looking at him. Probably wondering why his best friend was acting like he was. Why there was a very clear distance between them after so long without seeing each other in person. He tries to ignore it at first, to act oblivious. He doesn’t know anything, he’s just here to focus primarily on his girlfriend, El, right? And yet his emotions get the best of him for a little bit when they are left alone at Rink-o-mania while they’re trying to find El.
He knows. He knows he shouldn’t care so much about Will rolling his eyes or looking bored. He shouldn’t feel the pressure of it on the back of his neck, and yet when Will starts to speak the first thing that comes to mind is just that, not the bullies that had very clearly ruined their day.
---------------------------------------------------
While eating breakfast the next morning, he keeps his sight on his own plate, pretending that he can’t feel Will’s eyes on him. Will who is sitting next to him, and with whom he should definitely try to have a conversation with.
He decides to run away instead and face El, grabbing her plate of eggos and going to her room without looking back. Maybe if he ignores these new scary feelings of his for long enough they will just disappear at some point.
Mike and El talk, and it’s bad. It goes bad. She confronts him about the… the thing. About him not being able to say it back to her. And she’s mad. Understandably so. He’s mad about it too, really. He wishes he could just say it. Try to stay in the normal path. But he can’t.
Next thing he knows, El is gone. She’s been taken and he promises to get her back. Mike is a mess. He needs to talk. He has to talk to someone or he will lose his mind. The guilt is piling up, high up to his neck and he’s starting to feel like he can’t breathe. He walks to Will’s room without thinking. Like his body is telling him that he has to fix things with him, explain himself, comfort him that his shitty behavior was not Will’s fault but his own. And he does just that.
Will had tried to not look at him at first, he could feel just how uncomfortable he was, like he was expecting Mike to keep being weird. But then Mike explains, his voice is quiet and soft when he talks to him, the atmosphere between them too nice, too precious. He hasn’t felt this comfortable in sharing his thoughts for a while. That’s what Will does to you he guesses. Mike doesn’t speak the whole truth, of course, but it’s enough that Will regains some light to his eyes. He seems to be understanding, of course he is, he’s the best person he knows. And then it’s like they’re back to how they were before. They share a chuckle, and Mike’s chest feels warm at the sound of his friend’s laugh.
--------------------------------------------------
It somehow gets worse though. After their chat now Mike feels the need to look back. He does it without thinking. He sees Will looking at him from the corner of his eye while they’re burying the police officer dude, and he can’t help but look too. Will catches him looking, obviously,… because he had been staring at him. Mike really shouldn’t be getting flustered when he wasn’t the one caught looking first, and yet he does. He tries to seem nonchalant, like he doesn’t care, like he didn’t just do a double or tripe take because of the nerves. Like his chest wasn’t ready to explode because Will was looking at him in a way that he can’t even explain. Like maybe he could… feel the same way Mike does.
Shit. SHIT. SHIIIIT.
Will’s walking towards him now isn’t he? Just keep digging, whatever.
“Mike?”
“’Sup?” He refuses to look up at first, clearly too busy burying a dead body, come on Will.
“Are you okay?” He’s speaking in a quiet voice, trying not to bring Jonathan or Argyle’s attention towards them.
“Of course I am, just- hot. Hot and tired.”
“Mike. Look at me.” And God, he has to. He looks at Will’s pretty, shiny face, drops of sweat going down his temple and his neck. Some strands of hair got stuck to his forehead. He looks like a mess. Fuuuuuck. “Talk to me. Like a team, remember?”
Oh, that’s just not fair.
----------------------------------------------------
They find out where they have to go now. They’re on their way to get El when Will decides to show him the painting. It was for him all along and it’s incredible. No words can describe how amazing it is. It’s definitely Will’s best work up to this point, so detailed and painted with such care. Mike listens to him explain the meaning of it. And he switches between admiring the painting and drooling at Will. He’s really trying to focus on his words.
…………. Maybe if he looks at his lips he’ll be able to tell what he’s saying.
Okay, no. That was a very bad decision. Back to his eyes, Wheeler, back to the eyes.
He feels dumb. He feels like he looks dumb. He can’t stop looking at him.
God, he wishes those words came from him instead. “I need you, Mike, and I always will.”
Hah, if only, right?

Another character opinion/hc: Nandor the Relentless, please!!
NANDOR!!!! Oh god this disaster 😂
(ok clarifying that I haven't watched the last season and my knowledge for it comes from Tumblr)
I think Nandor is an incredibly interesting character, flawed to the core (like all the characters) but still has a sensitivity hidden so deep down that he doesn't know how to bring out properly and the results are these.
No seriously he has caused pain and have made many mistakes but I don't feel it's because he wanted to do that intentionally, like he doesn't seem to fully realize the weight of his actions' consequences.
What we ignore sometimes with Nandor and vampirism is that he considers himself pre vampire era the peak of his existence and after vampire everything is a downhill. He lights up talking about his conqueror days and barely talks about what he has been doing all these centuries. He's like the high school jock that after graduation has fallen into depression and this is his own fault and that's what burdens him the most, the fact that whatever different he tries it will fail because he is a failure.
I laugh and get mad with his actions but most of all I pity him, even in situations he deserves the worst and gets it I can't find pleasure because HE asked for that, it's not justice it's just self destructive behavior succeeding. And that's why I like him to the degree of rooting his happiness, whichever happiness that is.
I dunno but I feel the happiness for him will be when he finally accepts his vampire nature and realizes even if not conqueror he can be truly happy.

ms potion peddler can I please get a potion for Shinsou?
Well hello new traveler, it's always so nice to see new faces around here. It sure is! Please, make yourself comfortable as I try and brew what is needed for that potion 💛
Tumblr media
It wasn't a lack of interest; that you knew for sure.
But Shinsou just never seemed to have the time of day to spare towards you and doing something. You could tell he liked you, it was obvious by the way he looked at you, and seemed to go out of his way to stand next to you.
But to actually do something? That was where you hesitated in his possible attraction to you. There was always something that made him say no to you - in a gentle way - but a rejection nonetheless.
You had to know why. You had to understand why someone seemed to have so much energy to spare to talk to you, but never had any to do something. Perhaps it was the work he did that left him so tired. Or the people he surrounded himself with, draining his energy away one way or another. Or maybe it indeed was he didn't want anything more with you.
But you had to know.
And that's how you stumbled upon the peddler - offering you a brew of lavender, blueberries, and a potion. She claimed it may help with the sluggishness you were experiencing. She left with a wink, and you knew exactly what she meant and what to do with your little teapot mixture.
You offered it to Shinso the next time you saw it; making sure it was hot enough to enjoy. And it was truly like magic, the way he seemed to spring to life; eyes shining more brightly as he looked upon you.
Lord knows how you managed to keep up; with him dragging you to every place he wished to take you. The museum to enjoy the beautifully painted art, the new flower exhibit that showcased flora from around the world and in bloom, the trampoline rooms to jump around and into the many foam pits, and to the tea room - the one near his home.
That was where he confessed that he always wished he had the courage to take you here and enjoy a lovely evening enjoying the tea time platters they had to offer.
Tumblr media
enjoy~

Hold My Hand: John Wick x Reader Chapter 146
Tumblr media
warnings: dual pov hmh masterlist
I haven’t seen my girls face-to-face in three days now, and it’s been killing me! This is the first time I’ve been away from them and it’s been really tough. I haven’t been away from Ronan since she’s been born, and the last time I was away from Y/N was before we were even married. I hope they’ll be as excited to see me as I am to see them.
I went up to the lake house to help Jimmy get some final touches done to it since we’re having Dan’s birthday party there this weekend with the family. It was fun to hang out with Jimmy and just have some good laughs, but I have to admit that I miss my girls so much.
Looking to my left, I wave at Jimmy as he pulls into his driveway, then I make my way up mine and smile when I see Bleu in the yard sleeping underneath the shade of a tree. He perks up when he hears my car, then he runs over to greet me as I get out.
“Hey, boy,” I smile, patting his side.
Bleu runs to the door and wags his tail as he waits for me, and I laugh quietly. He always wants to show me where the girls are. I open the door and watch as he walks inside, and I look up and smile when I see Y/N running from out of the kitchen.
“Hi, hi, hi!” she runs over to me and jumps into my arms as we kiss, and I hug her tight as she wraps her legs around my waist, “Oh my god! I missed you!”
“I missed you too!” I smile as I hug her, then I lean back and look at her, “God, you definitely got more beautiful while I was gone.”
Y/N scoffs, then she leans forward to kiss me as I carry her to the couch. I sit down with her straddling my waist as we kiss, and I let out a content sigh when she buries her face in the crook of neck. I rub my hands up and down her sides, then I smile when she sits back in my lap and looks at me.
“I missed you,” she whispers, cupping my face as she holds my gaze.
“I missed you too,” I kiss her palm, then I watch as she sits on the couch, “How have things been here? Bug’s sleeping?”
Y/N nods as she reaches for my hand, “Things have been good! Bug went down for her nap just a little bit ago. When you called and said you were on your way home, I was trying to keep her awake until you got here, but I left her for two minutes so I could pee and came back out to see her zonked on the floor.”
I laugh quietly, “That’s okay. Has she been good? I know we FaceTimed but I didn’t get to talk to you much yesterday since we were both busy.”
“She was really good! I had a girl’s day yesterday. Tess and I went to Amanda’s house, but we brought the kids. With Ro’s separation anxiety, I didn’t want to leave her with someone else, but she really didn’t give a shit whether I was there or not because she got to play with her friends.” Y/N says as we laugh, then she nods, “But she’s been really good. She slept in bed with me though. I hate that you weren’t here.”
“I know,” I nod as I relax back on the couch and prop my feet up on the coffee table, “I think the last time I was away from you was…I actually can’t remember.”
Y/N tilts her head as she thinks, “It was before we got married. Italy? No, not then. I showed up at the hotel. Holy shit, when was it?”
“Oh! I remember,” I say as I look at her, “Right before I proposed. When I went to your mom’s house to talk to her.”
“Oh my god, that was like…” Y/N looks around with wide eyes, “Almost two years ago.”
I chuckle as I look at her, “We haven’t slept without one another for almost two years.”
“Sick of me yet?”
“Nope, just getting even more obsessed,” I laugh as I lean over to kiss her, “I wish you would have come with me, to be honest.”
Y/N smiles as she nods, “Me too.”
“You had your girl’s night though. You deserved to have some fun, and I hope you did.”
“I did,” she nods, then she shrugs, “But I missed you. I missed you snoring in bed.”
I laugh as I playfully shove her arm, then I wrap my arm around her shoulder and pull her over to sit with me, “You had a good time with your friends though?”
“I did, we just had some food and drinks, had some chats about our annoying husbands, then I came home.” she says, and I chuckle when she smirks at me, “Nah, I gushed about you as usual. What’s new, right? What did you and Jimmy do?”
“Talked about our amazing wives and children.” I say, and she smiles at me, “We had the A/C fixed at the lake house and got a few other things done. I completely fixed up our room and bathroom downstairs. The bathroom just needed some final touches, then I got Ronan’s room done too. We just need to bring the crib we bought for there.”
“I’m excited to see it.” she says, then she snuggles into my arms as she leans her head on my chest.
We sit in silence together for a few moments, and I smile when she tilts her head up to look at me. I lean down to kiss her a few times while we have childless time together, then I start to smile when I hear Ronan crying.
“Go get her, she’ll be so happy to see you.” she whispers, and I lean down to kiss her before I get up from the couch.
I smile as I head upstairs to Ronan’s room and slowly push the door open, and Ronan juts her bottom lip out as she cries, one large tear coming from her left eye. I smile as I walk over to turn off her noise machine and to open the curtains, then I reach out for her as she cries.
“Why are you cryin’?” I whisper to her as I bounce her in my arms, and she leans her back to look at me, “Hi.”
Ronan still has her bottom lip jutted out as she looks at me for a moment, then she scratches her fingers against my beard before smiling wide and leaning against my chest. I hold her tight in my arms for a few moments before I walk over to put her on the changing table and get her out of this rank diaper.
“Hey, peach…”
“Yeah?”
I pick up Ronan and walk to the door to look at Y/N in the living room, “Do you want me to put her into something different?”
“Uh, just some different pajamas.” she says, shrugging, “Thought we’d just order something for dinner while we packed.”
“Sounds good.” I nod. I start to set Ronan down so I can grab some new pajamas but she just kicks her legs and starts to cry, so I hold her with one arm as I open her drawer, “Did you miss me?”
Ronan kicks her legs and babbles, and I feel the drool sliding down my arm as I hold her. I grab out some pajamas for her, then I carry her downstairs. Y/N looks over at us as we come down, and she smiles when Ronan squeals loudly.
“Did you miss dada?” she asks, which prompts Ronan to start kicking her legs wildly as she squeals.
I kiss Ronan’s cheek when I sit down with her in my lap, then with Y/N’s help, we quickly get her pajamas on. I reach for a toy that is on the coffee table, and Y/N and I completely disappear from Ronan’s sight when the toy is presented to her.
“Chopped liver now.” I say, relaxing back on the couch.
“Yeah, join the club.” Y/N jokes, then she smiles at me, “I just thought pizza or something would be good. I didn’t do any laundry or cleaning while you were gone, I won’t lie.”
I laugh as I look around, “The house looks fine.”
“I’m a pig when you’re not here.” she laughs, and I nudge her arm and shake my head.
“No, you’re not.” I laugh, then I sit up and look over at Ronan. I lean over and kiss her cheek, and she holds up her toy to show me, “Think she’ll crawl soon?”
Y/N hums as she thinks, then she shrugs, “I would assume so. She sits on her own, and this weekend I saw her doing the rocking back and forth thing, so I would assume she’ll start crawling within the next few weeks.”
I look down at Ronan and laugh as she ‘sings’ and makes noise, and I kiss the top of her head and pull her into my lap. I hold her up so she can stand on my legs, but she wiggles around and babbles nonsense loudly.
“You sure you’re ready for a road trip with us?”
“I am very ready,” I smile as I look over at Y/N, and she leans down to kiss me, “Can’t wait to spend the weekend up there.”
Y/N smiles as she holds up Ronan next to her face, “Us too!”
__
**
The car ride up to the lake house wasn’t bad since you waited until Ronan would be down for a nap. She slept the whole way there and only woke up about 10 minutes before you arrived. She’s currently sitting in the highchair waiting for John to get her some food, and she squealing loudly and babbling to everyone walking past.
Since John is getting Ronan fed, you decided to go downstairs to set up the crib in Ronan’s room. John is coming down to help as soon as he gets Ronan some food.
You smile as you look at Ronan’s room, and you walk over and check out the view from the window. Last time you were here, this room wasn’t even here, but Jimmy thought it would be a good idea to knock down the wall and put in a bedroom for Ronan, so that’s what he did this winter. It looks really good, and it’s nice that Ronan can be downstairs with you and John when you go to bed rather than being upstairs.
“Hey…” John smiles as he walks into the room, then he gestures, “What do you think?”
“I love it! I love the cute little plants all over and how it ties into our room,” you say, then you reach up to touch the cute little fuzzy pink deer head, “I love this.”
John chuckles, “Thought it was kind of ironic seeing as we don’t hunt.”
“It’s cute.” you laugh, then you reach for his hands and smile at him, “Thanks for doing this. If she could talk, she’d tell you that she loves this.”
“I think so,” he nods as he looks around, then he points at the toys, “I got her some new stuff that she might like too.”
**
Y/N looks up at me and smiles as she nods, “She’ll love it.”
I lean down and cup her face as I kiss her, and she wraps her arms around my waist as we make out for a few rare uninterrupted minutes. Y/N tilts her head to the side as I slide my tongue into her mouth, and I smile when she reaches down to grope me over my pants.
“Hey, hey, hey…” I laugh as she slouches and juts her bottom lip out, “Tonight, what do you say?”
“Yes!” she smiles wide as she nods, then she throws her arms around my neck and kisses me as I hold her and carry her in my arms back to our room.
“Hey,” Tess calls out downstairs, “Ronan keeps doing some thing to me, but I don’t know what it means.”
I laugh as I take Y/N’s hand and head upstairs, then we walk into the kitchen and see Ronan sitting in her highchair. I furrow my brow as I walk closer, then I watch as Ronan signs that she wants more food.
“She’s signing,” Y/N smiles proudly, “John has been teaching her some basic signs.”
“That’s amazing,” Bev smiles.
Y/N walks over and cuts the other half of the banana into small pieces, then she places them on Ronan’s tray, and Ronan wastes no time when she sees. She stuffs banana into her mouth and gets it all over her face, but she’s so damn happy to be eating.
“She knows the signs for ‘more’, ‘dad’, ‘mom’, and ‘food’, of course.” Y/N smiles as she looks at me, “Our little smarty pants.”
I smile when I look at Ronan with banana all over her, then I grab a napkin to wipe it off, “I read that it helps your baby communicate and keeps their frustration low.”
Bev nods, “That makes sense. Babies can’t always communicate verbally what’s going on.”
I shrug, “And she hasn’t said her first word yet, so I figured I’d teach her.”
“She’ll start talking soon, Jonathan.” Bev smiles, squeezing my arm.
“Watch this. Ro, where is dada?” Y/N asks, signing ‘dad’, then she points around the room, “Hmm, hmm, hmm, where is dada?”
Ronan looks at Y/N and smiles, then she only signs ‘dad’ as Ronan looks around. Ronan looks at me and smiles, then she smacks her hands on the tray and screeches happily.
“Good job!” I smile as I lean down to kiss her, “She’s a smart little bug.”
I clean up the tray and Ronan’s face, then I take off her bib and set her down so she can play with Finn. He crawls over to her with some of his toys, and I smile when I see him hold up one to show her. Ronan bounces in place and giggles as Finn plays with her, and she squeals loudly when he imitates a plane engine.
Leaning back against the counter, I smile as I watch my beautiful baby girl grinning like the happiest baby on the planet.
__
Standing on the sun deck, I look out at the water as the sun goes down and I take a moment to think about how much my life has changed. It’s something that is always on my mind, but today has been so good that I have to take an extra moment to really be grateful for how far I’ve come.
If someone would have told me years ago that I would meet the most wonderful woman who would change my life, I would have never believed them. I never in a million years would think I would be married to an incredible woman who is everything that I could ever want. She’s smart, kind, understanding, so damn sexy, and just beautiful inside and out. The fact that we haven’t lost the spark between us as well is pretty amazing. Not that I ever think we will, I’m crazy about her.
I can’t imagine my life without Y/N, and I certainly couldn’t imagine my life without Ronan. Being a dad wasn’t something that I thought I’d ever be, so I’m so grateful to Y/N for giving me the opportunity. I just hope I’m doing a good job.
“Hey, cutie…” Y/N smiles as she walks up to the sundeck, “Come here often?”
I look over at her and smile as I stand up to allow her to stand in front of me. I wrap my arms around her waist and bury my face in the crook of her neck, and she pulls my arms around her tighter.
“Ro is down?”
“She is,” she nods, then she looks at me and smiles, “What are you doing up here?”
I shrug as I look out at the water, “Just thinking.”
“Well, come on, Wick, fill me in!” she laughs, and I kiss her cheek before I stand next to her.
“Today has been great, hasn’t it?” I say, and she laughs as she furrows her brow a little. “Every now and then, I just start to think about how much my life has changed since we met.”
Y/N turns to face me, then she leans against the railing, “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” I nod, then I shrug as I look out at the sun setting, “It’s days like these where I think about how far I’ve come, everything I went through…”
“You went through a lot. Ya know, not many people can say they literally fought like hell for their life and mean it. They mean it metaphorically, but I know it better than anyone how literal it is. I see it every time we’re in bed,” she whispers as she reaches over and touches the scars on my arms and chest, “I see the hell you went through, and I’m grateful that you’re so damn stubborn sometimes because you could have easily complied and said ‘you know what, I give up’, but you didn’t. You kept fighting. You kept fighting because you knew there was a better life out there for you.”
I let out a small laugh as I stand up straight and look over at her, “You know, you’re really good at these talks.”
“Well,” she rolls her eyes playfully as she shuffles in place, “I learned from the best.”
“I’ve just been thinking all day about how amazing my life has been since you came into it. You’ve made me a better man, and I’ll always be grateful for that.” I say, and she smiles with tears in her eyes, “You made me a husband again, and now you’ve made me a father. I can’t thank you enough for allowing me this opportunity.”
Y/N scoffs a little as she looks away and wipes the tears off her cheek, “John…”
“I mean it,” I reach over for her and hold her gaze, “I don’t thank you enough.”
“Because you don’t need to.” she whispers, and I shake my head. “Just waking up and seeing that you’re still there in the morning is enough. I mean sometimes Ro and I can be a handful.”
I shake my head as we both laugh, then I lean down to kiss her, “I’m not going anywhere. You and Ronan mean everything to me, and I mean it when I say I can’t function without you two. Those three days without my girls were rough. It gave me a glimpse as to what it would be like if I didn’t have you two in a way, and I hated it. I hated not feeling your body next to me in the night. I hate not waking up and bringing Ro into bed just to snuggle for a little bit. I hated not having you around.”
Y/N smiles as she looks up at me, then she cups my face and stand on her tiptoes to kiss me. I wrap my arms around her tight and deepen the kiss, then I kiss down her cheek to her neck before holding her for a few moments.
“Thank you for coming into my life and giving me all the things I never knew I wanted,” I whisper, and she tilts her head back and looks at me, “I love you more than I’ll ever able to express.”
“You’re so cute,” she whispers as she rubs her thumb against my cheek, then she leans up to kiss me, “I love you too.”
I hold her hand as I walk over to sit on the couch, and I smile when she sits next to me and puts her right leg over my lap, “It’s beautiful out here.”
“It’s a really nice night.” she nods, then she smiles at me, “Jimmy is going to start a bonfire in bit.”
“Sounds good.”
Y/N clears her throat a little as she shifts in place, then she looks at me and smiles softly, which causes me to grow concerned. Something is…off.
“What’s going on?” I ask, and she furrows her brow. “Come on, I know you. You got that little crinkle in your forehead. You’re thinking about something.”
“Uh, well, I…” she tilts her head back and groans as she looks at the sky, then she looks over at me, “I…god!”
I laugh as I hold her hand, “You can do it, baby.”
Y/N takes a deep breath and looks at me, “I think…I might be pregnant.”
I immediately sit up and look at her, “What?”
“Yeah,” she bites her lip nervously and nods, then she looks down at her hands and shrugs, “I haven’t gotten my period yet. It’s a few days late.”
I look down at my lap for a moment while we’re both silent, and I let everything run through my head.
We want more children but Ronan isn’t even a year old yet. We don’t want kids this close in age, and I know that we want to just stay the three of us for a little while longer before we add another member to the family. How the hell am I going to tell her that I don’t think we should have another baby yet?
I look up when I hear Y/N sniffle, and I move closer to her, “Don’t cry.”
“I just…I don’t want to be pregnant right now. I like just being a little family of three, and I’m just now starting to feel better about things. I’m finally feeling like I got this whole mom thing in the bag. I don’t want to be pregnant right now.”
“Yeah, of course.”
Y/N looks at me and shrugs, “I don’t mean to hurt your feelings--”
“Hey, I agree with you wholeheartedly.” I nod, and she smiles a little. “I love it just being the three of us. I love the way things are going. I don’t want another baby right now either. We’re still getting used to how things are with Ro.”
“Yeah,” she nods as I reach over to wipe the tear off her cheek. “I just finally got my body back. I finally feel like myself again. I’m not ready to share it again.”
I nod as I hold her gaze, “I know. I don’t blame you.”
“So…” she exhales as she looks at me, “Wanna come with me to take the test?”
I perk up as I look at her, “You bought some?”
“Before you got home the other day. I was too nervous to tell you.” she says, and I intertwine my fingers with hers and pull her up from the couch.
We hold hands as we walk inside, and I see Tess give her a wink. Of course Tess probably already knows what’s happening. I wouldn’t put it past these two. I’m glad that she had someone to talk to while I was gone.
Y/N heads downstairs and walks straight to her bag to get out the pregnancy tests, then she opens it while she walks to the bathroom. I let out a small laugh when she immediately sits on the toilet and sticks the test between her legs, then I lean against the door frame and look down to give her privacy.
“Okay,” she sighs as she flushes the toilet and washes her hands. She puts a piece of toilet paper over the test so neither of us peek, then she crosses her arms and looks at me. “I feel like I need to say this: I’ll be happy if we are.”
“I know,” I nod, then I gesture to myself, “Me too.”
Y/N holds my gaze, then she chuckles, “I just don’t want to be.”
“Yeah, same.” I laugh, reaching out for her hand, “I’m glad we’re on the same page.”
A few moments pass as we stand there, and I smile when she looks up at me but I furrow my brow a little when I remember that she’s on birth control.
“I already know what you’re about to ask,” she laughs, and I start to smile, “I haven’t been taking it. It’s just so annoying to remember to take a pill, okay?”
I laugh as I lean over to kiss her, “I understand.”
“I have an appointment Monday, so I’m going to ask Doctor Mendez what I can I do instead because being a new mom causes me to forget to eat half the time, how am I meant to remember to take a pill?”
“Makes sense.” I nod, then I look over when the timer goes off. I walk over to wrap my arm around her shoulder and hold her close to my chest, and we both lean in to kiss one another before I pull the tissue from over the test. “Oh, thank god.”
Not pregnant.
Y/N leans against my chest and laughs, “I’ve never been more nervous.”
“Me too.” I laugh, then I lean back to look at her, “You’re sure you’re happy with those results?”
“Yes, very happy.”
I smile as I lean down to kiss her, “Because if you wanted a different result, I can always help with that.”
Y/N laughs as she tosses the test into the garbage, then she takes my hand and walks to Ronan’s room, quietly pushing the door open so we can check on her. We both tiptoe over to the crib and peek over to look at Ronan, and I wrap my arm around Y/N’s shoulder and kiss her head.
Ronan’s chunky little cheeks are a little red, so Y/N turns the little fan on to cool her down. I smile when she looks at me and wraps her arms around my waist, and we both look back at Ronan.
“I love her more than anything in this world, but I’m not ready to have another one yet.” she whispers, and I look at her, “I love our little world as three.”
“I do too,” I whisper back, then I lean down to kiss her, “Don’t worry about me. I’m fine.”
Inhaling deeply, Y/N takes my hand and leads me to our bedroom where she sits down and pulls me next to her on the bed, “I want to have more kids. We’ve talked about this.”
“Why are you trying to justify your reaction like I’m upset?”
“I don’t want you to think I don’t want more kids.”
I tilt my head as I look at her, then I chuckle as I lean over to kiss her, “I know you want more. I do too! It’s just not time. I’m finally getting you back, I’m finally able to just have you to myself sometimes. You went through so much with this first pregnancy, and I don’t want you to go through all of that again unless you’re ready.”
Y/N smiles as she nods, “Yeah.”
“I love you, and I know you love being a mom,” I reach for her hand and press a kiss to it, “It’s just not time for another baby yet, and I’m completely fine with that. I think we’re both still trying to get used to how things work with a baby, and every month she’s learning something new and things are constantly changing. Plus with only one baby, I can get away with sneaking you off to the bedroom more often.”
“Yeah, very true.” she laughs, nodding her head as she leans over to kiss me.
I hold her gaze for a moment, then I nod to the bed and smirk, “Shall we?”
We both look over when we hear a knock on the glass sliding doors, and we wave at Jimmy. He slides the door open and sticks his head in as he waves.
“You guys coming for the bonfire?”
“Yeah, we’ll be right out.” Y/N says, then she looks at me and laughs, “Maybe we should wait for everyone to be asleep.”
I nod my head as I laugh, “Yeah.”
__
The sun has set, the kids are down, and now all the adults are outside for a bonfire. Bev never misses a moment to boast about her girls and tell embarrassing stories, and she’s making us all laugh telling us about the time Y/N got so sick at school that she needed to be picked up.
“Oh, she smelled horrid.” she says, and Y/N puts her head in her hands as she laughs. “The poor thing just couldn’t stop puking and then it was coming out of both ends. My poor baby was just a stinky crying mess when I picked her up. She ended up having a really bad stomach bug and was out of school for about two weeks. I remember when we needed to take a fecal sample to the hospital for testing, she nearly cried because she didn’t want the ‘boy doctor’ to look at it.”
“Hey! I was embarrassed!” Y/N says, and I chuckle as I look at her, “I was like…7.”
Bev smiles, “You just kept saying ‘no, he’s a boy doctor! Don’t give the boy doctor my poop!’ Everyone in the lobby was trying not to laugh, and the poor thing just cried. They ended up having a female nurse come take it to save the poor thing from the humiliation.”
Y/N laughs, “I’ll be sure to save Ro the childhood trauma and not pass her poop off to the boy doctor.”
I laugh as I rub her arm, then I lean down to kiss her head, “I know you have some embarrassing stories about Tess.”
“Hey!” Tess playfully yells and reaches over to shove my shoulder.
“Of course I do.” Bev laughs, then she shakes her head, “But I won’t do that to her.”
Y/N scoffs jokingly, “Oh, so you’re just going to tell my husband that I shit my pants one time but you’re not going to tell any of Tess’ embarrassing stories. Wow, I see who the favorite is.”
Tess puffs her chest up and flips her hair, then she nudges Y/N’s shoulder, “Nah, mom always said she never had a favorite.”
It’s actually really cool how Bev has always made it seem like Tess is her biological daughter. Y/N takes so much pride is having her as a big sister too. It’s cool that they accepted Tess into the family despite not being blood, and it was nice that I immediately felt at home with them too. They’ve always made me feel so comfortable, and I know it’s because Bev is just a really good woman. I’m glad that Y/N was brought up by her because she’s raised incredible daughters and now Y/N gets to help raise ours.
“Hey,” Jimmy comes out of the house and looks at us, “Ro-Ro is crying.”
Y/N laughs, “Ro-Ro?”
“Yeah, I mean, you got a nickname for Finny. I had to think of one too.” he laughs as he shrugs, “It was Ro-Ro or Rowey.”
“Well,” Y/N tilts her head, “I won’t lie, Rowey is kind of cute.”
I laugh as I get up with her, then we head downstairs to check on Ronan. As soon as we get to the door, Ronan reaches out for her mom and juts her bottom lip out.
“Oh, I know. Momma and daddy are here.” Y/N whispers as she picks her up and bounces her a little, and Ronan lays against her chest and sucks her thumb.
“I think she just needed her momma.” I whisper, then I grab Ronan’s blanket, “She can come upstairs with us.”
Y/N nods, “She’ll probably fall asleep again. She’s just been a little clingy.”
I wrap the blanket around Ronan as we head back outside, and I wait for them to sit down before I sit next to them and make sure they’re both warm. I wrap my arm around Y/N’s shoulder and rub her arm to warm her up, then I smile when she looks at me.
Ronan’s eyes are growing heavy as Y/N rubs her back and slowly rocks her from side to side, and I smile when I see Ronan’s eyes finally flutter shut as her thumb falls out of her mouth. I reach over and rub her back before leaning over to kiss her forehead, then I kiss Y/N and smile at her.
“We love you,” she whispers, and I smile again.
“I love you both.”
Holding tight to Y/N, I rub her arm and listen to the conversations being had, and I smile as I look around at everyone. My family. My perfect little family.
