hot take but fanon is better when it focuses on canon characteristics and keeps the core of a chaacter’s personality just placed in different situations or expands on little details that were just throwaway lines, not when it fundamentally changes everything about a character to fit a shittty ship

I absolutely despise seblaine because of how homophobic it's fanbase is and the fact that in canon it's rooted in malicious unsexy infidelity, and consists of the two of the most despicable characters being even more annoying than they usually are, and one of them isn't even redeemable.

But i always had this hilarious image of one them getting married because their elitist parents approve of them keeping it in the evil rich people community, something something they won't get their inheritance if they marry common folk etc.

It's not pure business, they start out okay, the sex is good or something if sebastian can inhale the hair gel long enough without passing out but then over the years the reality of being married to blaine anderson sinks in and they just kind of emotionally check out and either have an open marriage or just keep cheating on each other, Blaine bc that's just what he does and Sebastian bc a gals gotta cope.

They bring out the absolute worst in each other, the elitism, the cutthroat competitiveness, disregard for people's feelings etc

They tolerate each other but are incredibly snippy and shit to the point where their dinner guests get uncomfortable and stare like 👁️👄👁️

Blaine : Sebastian thinks hes making a difference in the world because he's an environment lawyer

Sebastian: I am, I do. I make a difference you sing showtunes with strained vocals for washed up queers who peaked in highschool.

Kurt wakes up the next morning after the double wedding with a pounding headache and a killer hangover. What if Mercedes is in his hotel room instead of Blaine? Complete.

Kurt woke up and looked around. It was dark, but there was enough faint light from the window that he could see just a little. He blinked his blurry eyes a few more times and realized that he was in a hotel room lying in a bed. He reached out and found no one else in the bed with him. His mind was foggy, but he lay still thinking. The last thing he could remember was ...

After a few seconds, he remembered toasting his marriage with Mercedes. He rolled over and slipped the covers back, then headed toward the bathroom.

When he came back out, he shielded his eyes from the bright light in the room. He found Mercedes sitting on the other bed in the room.

“Mercedes? What’s going on?” Kurt made his way back to the bed. “Can we talk about it in the dark? My head is pounding.”

“Sure. Take these first.” She handed him a bottle of water and some pain relievers. After he took them, she turned off the lamp that was on the nightstand between their beds and got back in the other bed. “Drinking so much tends to give people nasty hangovers.”

“I’ll keep that in mind,” he deadpanned. “The last thing I remember is you and I were toasting my marriage to Blaine. Why am I in a hotel room with you and not with him?”

“Well, mainly because I wanted a chance to talk to you sober before you had a chance to do anything permanent like actually marry Blaine.”

“We already got married.”

“Not legally. Your dad may be authorized by the state of Indiana to perform weddings, but you and Blaine didn’t have a marriage license, so all the two of you did was repeat words in a ceremony. Without the marriage license, you’re not officially married. The two of you will have to head to a courthouse Monday—tomorrow morning and get a marriage license and then get officially married again, either by someone at the courthouse or someone else officially authorized to perform the ceremony.”

“Oh, right. I mean I knew that. God, my head is killing me. I hope those pills do something soon. So, you still didn’t tell me what you want to talk to me about.”

Just had the stunning realisation that they should’ve ditched Chandler and used Sebastian as the swooning gentlemen in the ‘between the sheets’ scene with Kurt during the Whitney tribute episode-

I’m not saying that he would be as gushy, flamboyant or mooneyed as Chandler was, come on it’s Sebastian at the end of the day, but if he were able to strike up a decent conversation with Kurt about music after the initial hostility, they’d be able to somewhat connect, and it would’ve been ever so dreamy ☺️. Not to mention then it would open up the opportunity for Kurt to see the more human side of Sebastian, and although he’s nothing like Chandler, it would allow Seb to be nicer to Kurt too.

And then when Blaine calls the texting scandal ‘cheating’, his argument would be completely null because oh wait…wasn’t he doing the same thing a few months ago? With the same boy???

hey, i'd like to give some nuance! (do with it what you will lol)

as a 100% klainer, I actually know multiple super sweet kurtbastian shippers. who are not antis! they have kindly explained that they find their dynamic interesting. and also! fanon usually goes a long way. sebastian in fanfiction either isn't that awful or he has a marvelous character development.

I don’t like sebastian, but I love his character. a good antagonist. cartoony, mean, funny, dramatic. he just brings a little spice

like you said, people ship what they're gonna ship. everyone has different reasons behind why they enjoy certain things. nothing wrong with shipping anything. as long as everyone stays respectful. I have zero tolerance for anties.

well yeah. but like i said before this fanon interpretation is kind of where my issue is LOLL people bend over backwards to defend sebastian often for the sake their “interesting” gay ship and it just feels like that the reason why has a lot to do with the fact that sebastian’s some white guy who insults kurt a bunch for like 5 minutes. and even with people who aren’t blaine antis sometimes villainize blaine to use him as a vehicle for uplifting kurtbastian, so it feels To Me that seeing these people who are “shipping what they’re gonna ship” often comes at a price of people completely reconstructing the characters on the show in the name of “fanon.”

THE ONLY REASON this would bother me is because it’s often not just these people doing their own thing in their corner of gleeblr and giving depth to sebastian in fics & whatnot (i obviously don't have a problem with that), but because it's often them being determined to prove that blaine is Canonically Worse than sebastian, and then using that reasoning to rave about why kurtbastian is so much better...
