Predictions for Jillian/Jasillian
Her actual hair color is red she only dyed it blonde because "gentlemen prefer it that way"
She is Regis's secret daughter; alternately she's Edwin's kid
She's the half sister of Monica! Or Connie's
She is actually an Angel sent to do...whatever & she's fated to be with Jason
She's actually working against the nsa bc she's EVIL (cuz genuinely cute nice or ditzy characters aren't allowed to exist anymore)
She's actually Tom Riley's grandkid
No even better - SHE'S JACK ALLEN'S DAUGHTER
Because might as well have her be related to a canon character to make her even MORE at home in Odyssey 😉
She's 1/16th Black therefore she is the show's only other diversity
She and Jason get engaged but they break up not because of differences but because she's actually already married...TO MITCH
Jillian and Jason do get married gradually Jason is erased from the show so Jillian can take over as the resident Action Man™
Jillian is related to Eugene and replaces him as the Nerd
She replaces Wooton as the mailman
She replaces Whit as the proprietor of whit's end
She replaces Katrina
She replaces Jules
She replaces the kids
She replaces Vanessa!

K but like, Jillison couldn't even work unless they left odyssey because unless Jillian blows her cover, she has to keep up the persona and reputation she's developed in odyssey so unless they're alone or only with whit and connie, jillian has to keep being annoying and airheaded so it wouldnt make sense to the general public of odyssey for jason and jillian to be together when jillian drives jason nuts.
anyway, ship burkillian and keep jillian far far away from jason

Ok this is the literal definition of irony
How is it these kids are all freaking out about Jillian and Burke going out? How is it is that they’re talking about how Jillian deserves better than getting with him because she’s intelligent and cool and Burke’s well Burke?
But somehow they were perfectly happy with shipping Jason and the old Jillian? Didn’t Jason deserve better too?
Make it make sense like kids we— 😂

Jasonessa: built with joy, healthy boundaries, inspiring each other to be the best they can be, vanessa having her own value outside romance, in-character Jason for the better, vanessa has genuine chemistry with other characters, cringe for the right reasons, actual effort in my part to make it work, fans seem to enjoy it
Jillison: built on shallow reasons, including the pretending to be spouses scenario, forced tease, leeching off aspects of previous love interests, jason in-character for the worse, Jillian only real role revolving around jason, cringey comic relief, Jillian constantly disrespecting jason's boundaries, fans hate it yet writers think this is okay cuz she is their pet 😭

🚨WARNING SOME MINOR SPOILERS OF ALBUM 74 AND LONG RANT🚨
We were already sick of this Jason and Jillian thing and now we’re even more sick of it. Honestly, a major reason why we don’t like this couple, aside from the fact their chemistry sucks, is they have no identity outside each other, especially Jillian.
Every episode she’s been in since her debut in “The Shame about Fame,” except for “Much ado about Jealousy” and “Auto Reponse,” Jason has been in. And it’s not just that he’s in the episode, he is usually the primary character she interacts with. Every episode and plot line she is in has only one goal. To get her physically and relationship-wise closer to Jason. She sets up a booth in front of triple J, next thing she works there, then she’s NSA agent, and because she’s an agent and not completely brainless like before Jason is able to go from annoyed with her to interested in her.
Jillian should have her own identity outside of Jason but she doesn’t because she was created solely to get Jason hitched. Does Connie need another quirky friend in airheaded Jillian? No since she has Penny. Do we need another NSA or government agent on this show? No since we have Monty, Mitch, Agent Bourland, Monica, Jason, Whit, and ESPECIALLY Tasha who is far superior to Jillian. The writers couldn’t even be bothered to give Jillian a unique career. Her career, life as child, and faith, are the only things to craft her identity outside of Jason. And her career is a rip-off of a past love interest. Who knows what the writers were thinking with that. Maybe the writers thought that since a lot of Jason’s favorite love interest were spies if Jillian was one fans would instantly get behind her and Jason as a couple. However they failed to see reason that the reason us fans ship Jason with Connie, Monica, or Tasha is not primarily because of their jobs rather it’s because of the women’s personality, their individual arcs that we find intriguing, how we think their arc will work beautifully with Jason’s, and most importantly a foundational friendship with Jason that feels organic and natural and that can possibly blossom into something more. Jason and Jillian friendship and probably eventual relationship doesn’t feel natural because the writers have been pushing it FAR TOO much.
With romantic storylines you have to sorta leave the audience in the dark. You have to make them feel the natural chemistry between two characters before you actively start putting them together. You have to have the audience two steps ahead of the show so that they believe the plan to hook up these two characters is their idea. Writers have to make the audience long for two characters to be together. This is why Connie and Jason are so popular. Them being together isn’t something at all the writers have planned yet their natural chemistry, close friendship, and the times they’ve supported and comforted each other have caused fans to get behind them as a pair. Jason and Jillian don’t feel natural. Every plot point is devised to get them together. Jillian sets up a booth in front of Jason’s shop. Jillian starting working at Triple J. Her and Jason were forced to act like a married couple to solve a mystery (real subtle there). Even though the world is in crisis and Jason’s life is in peril she somehow manages to tell everyone she’s a Christian, oh she’s a Christian and a spy she’s perfect for Jason. (It’s kinda weird that the fake Jillian didn’t give off an impression of believing. It’s mentioned in an episode that she’s goes to church but Whit in 28 hours tells her he wasn’t at all sure she was a Christian. You would think that if she was going to church someone would have asked about her faith by now. The revelation of the true’s Jillian faith would make much more sense if Connie asked her if she was actually a Christian in real life like the fake Jillian was (provided of course that her Christianity is confirmed in an earlier episode) Anyways back to the rant). In the latest released episode, Jillian and Jason are partners for game night and when they strike out (or rather Jason) they go to sit in the corner together. Jillian’s exact words earlier pretty much being “If I’m going to the corner, I’m taking you with me.” Okay, we get it writers chill. If the writers want to make Jillian and Jason getting together more fluid and natural they should have paired Connie and Jason while Whit would be with Jillian. Or Connie/Jillian and Jason/Whit. Now everytime we see Jillian and Jason on the character list for an episode we know instantly that the whole episode practically exists to have Jillian move from point A to point B: from farther from Jason, to closer to Jason. And it’s gotten old fast.

Why Jillian Sucks
Hi, welcome to Odyssey Mystery Hour! I'm your host @gritsandbrits and today I'll be talking about a hot topic in the AIO fandom! Wanna know the tea? Keep on reading!
In the weeks I started getting back into the radio series, the newer episodes have started to irk me, mostly because of one of the more annoying additions: Jillian. Marshall. 😬😬😬
Even though I ship Jason with my self insert OC this not going to be about her. There's a lot of reasons why I do NOT like the idea of Jillian x Jason becoming a canon thing on the show. I hope to describe these feelings as best I can.
Who is Jillian you might ask?
Well to put it simply, Jillian is what happens when a Soccer Mom and a TikTok boyfriend mate and spawn an unholy baby and name them Rachel Berry. Out of the aspects of Nu!Odyssey I dislike, Jillian is the one thing I truly despise. Thankfully I've met fans who share the exact sentiment! 😁😒
Double-N Annoying, Double-O Nincompoop
Making her debut in 2018, Jillian is described as lively and upbeat, if a little high strung and immature; the perfect recipe for Kid Appeal! Before she moved to Odyssey she lived in different cities and worked nineteen jobs before becoming roommates with Connie and her sister Jules.
Now this is actually a fairly interesting set up: a new character struggling to find purpose only to discover it in a quaint small town. But as it turns out her going through that many jobs seems to be more than just struggling to find purpose.
When I first saw her design my thought immediately went to the smarmy classmates I went to school with.
We're introduced with this iconic line: "Hi!! I'm Jillian Marshall, double-L Jillian, double-L Marshall! It's so nice to meet you!"
With that one sentence I knew I was about to die.
The following episode has Jillian bumbling through every job interview much to Connie's duress after which she conveniently ending up working at Triple J Antiques...the same place Jason works!
A little backstory on Jason: he is the adult son of John Whittaker, one of the show's main character, and a bit of an Ensemble Darkhorse. He was introduced as a secret agent meant to bring action and intrigue into the show. He was set up as a charismatic and reckless sort of guy clashing with the calmer Jack Allen. After the Green Ring Conspiracy Saga, Jason officially retired from James Bonding and settled down to work at the Allen's antique shop.
Given his immense popularity there's understandable concern for how he is written and who he gets paired up with. So what does that have to do with Jillian.
Well, the idea of Jillian working at the same exact place as Odyssey's resident bachelor and calling him cute raises a few eyebrows.
"B-but Grits all she did was call him cute! You're reaching too far into this!"
Am I? Look I know this wouldn't be much of a big deal too but that is a subtle tactic the writers threw in to get the cogs turning for Jillison. Jason is clearly uninterested and even implied to dislike her. Jillian bemoans this but Connie reassures her that that's not the case. But hey at least she called him cute so OF COURSE she's going to end up being his love interest!
To me removing a character's core trait to justify a romance means you do NOT know how to actually write a compelling romance. It's trite, it's forced and painful to listen to.
It's also obvious she's a replacement for Bernard, given they have similar personalities and her brief stint on TV (which she also failed at lol). But whereas Bernard was actually endearing, Jillian seems more of a cliche womanchild with zero self awareness and tact. No actual depth, just a personality that is incredibly dumbed down and even insulting. Seriously they made her the dumb blond stereotype in an era where we should've moved on from that! 🤦
Did I mention she goes to church?
Yep she's gonna be one of those Christians.
Literally Loveless, Literally!
Oddly enough the narrative frames this as a rivals to lovers thing, where Jason is both the charismatic friendly guy and the super uninterested Straight Man. The constant twisting the turning makes him go OOC. See we know he's fit better as the former because that goes in line with his canon personality. But when they make him the latter he just comes off as unnecessarily mean. This is turns frames Jillian as someone we should pity: "Oh the attractive male doesn't like me because I went into his office without permission!!"
Wouldn't it make more sense for Jillian to be the one uninterested in a romance since her focus in to find a job/better purpose and romance might distract her? That would make a fun subplot...IF SHE WASN'T OBNOXIOUS!
A pattern I noticed and several fans pointed out: Jason's previous love interests were consistent in that they were strong minded women who challenged him in different ways. Their personalities bounced off creating a fun dynamic that was entertaining to see. Even though they didn't end up with him, you can still see and hear and feel their chemistry which is my goal for Jason x OC. Tasha doesn't make Jason OOC & they had a bittersweet arc, so their interactions were organic. Monica only made him OOC because she was a villain actively manipulating him. So again that worked in terms of story and led to Monica's redemption if my memory serves.
However, Jillian's dynamic is not that fun to listen to. You can feel her annoying Jason through the airwaves. She's strong but only in the sense of feeling something hard underneath your back laying on the bed and realizing that's just your earbud. She's vibrant yes but what else? She doesn't have any unique traits to contrast Jason, and any attempt at a contrast would mean making him act out of character. Adding her bumbling clumsiness and annoying voice, Jason would get tired of her very quickly. He's the type to go for people to have intelligent conversations with, not make him lose braincells. She could very well bring out the worse in him, it'll be an unhealthy relationship.
Here's a tidbit worth mentioning: the VA for Jillian actually auditioned with Jason's VA Townsend Coleman. Now that is big ass red flag right there! No hate towards the actress, just throwing that out there. There's also a facebook page dedicated to Jillison. Typical FB stupidity ramped up to eleven, or AIO fans who see something in Jillian; or at least THINk they see something worthwhile in her.
It doesn't help the writers keep insisting that these two go well together. The audience knows they do not work well as a pair but the narrative keeps insisting they are anyways. I recall an episode that had them pretend to be married while undercover and it was bad. Like REALLY humiliating to see Jason put in that position. He also told her to shut up much to my joy because she could NOT stop being irritating for five minutes. Alas the show still tries to justify Jillian being the Perfect Woman for Jason when she's anything but. And not even endearingly imperfect.

These tags I wrote on one of the AIO posts describes how I feel about Villain Marshall and the Jillison coupling as a whole. It just wouldn't work because Jason needs someone that can actually CHALLENGE him, have their own personality that can bounce off his (without being forced), and most importantly DOESN'T AGGRAVATE THE FANDOM!!
I have not met a single person anywhere that say they like Jillian. It's a different story apparently on the Club App - they like her for reasons I'm too cowardly to find out. But no, she sucks as a character. She makes a annoying friend, and is not a good addition to the show, much less a good love interest.
The only good thing she brought us are the nicknames we gave her 😌
That's all for now thank you for tuning into the Odyssey Mystery Hour. Next week I'll be talking a bit more about my OC Vanessa and her role in the world of Odyssey! Goodbye and make sure to lock your doors to prevent Jillian from coming in!!

Our Thoughts on Jillison!
We Know it. You know it. Everyone knows it. Ever since Jillian Marshall first met Jason Whittaker the writers have been (not so subtly) hinting that she and Jason will hook up – become a couple – start dating (However you want to say it).
Needless to say the idea of Jason and Jillian being a couple has been the source of much conversation and even debate within the Odyssey fandom. Each side giving reasons why Jillison (Jason and Jillian’s ship name) would make a great couple and why they would not. And today we will be giving you all our opinion on the matter.
So without further ado let’s jump into this shall we?
For a long time now we have wanted Jason to be in a relationship. Like come on writers?!!! He’s been single for a while now and deserves some happiness in his life especially when it comes to romance. Now our first choice for Jason would be Tasha (we’ll definitely write a post about why we think they are perfect for each other) but we would be perfectly happy with Connie or Monica as they also have wonderful chemistry with Jason and each of their pairings would have great potential storylines (we’ll probably write a post about why Connie and Monica would be good for Jason as well). We would even be open to a completely new character as long as she seemed like a good match for Jason.
And then came….Double L Jillian double L Marshall.
Within seconds of her introduction in the episode “The Shame About Fame” we immediately knew we didn’t like her at all. Her character was too flighty, immature, and childish for us. We thought “really Connie you’re going to pick her for your roommate.” 🤷‍♀️
We were like okay. We can deal with this. Maybe it won’t be that terrible. If we can make it through AIO’s split episode era we can make it through this right? Little did we know things were going to go from bad to worse.
It all started going downhill (FAST!) when we heard Jillian first meet Jason in the episode “Not What I Expected” (The writers definitely picked the right title for that episode because what we all heard was totally unexpected). To say that scene was AWKWARD would be an understatement. It was so painful to listen to especially when Jillian was mentioning how Jason was so cute. You could feel how uncomfortable Jason was. It was at this moment that a horrible thought entered our minds. Are the writers hinting that Jason and Jillian will become a couple in the future? We shuddered at the thought. No! No way! The writers couldn’t! They wouldn’t dare do that to us! We quickly pushed that idea to the back of our minds, trying our best to convince ourselves that it was impossible. After all, Jillian wasn’t the first girl to mention Jason’s good looks and surely the writers could see they weren’t a good match at all. But mostly because the idea of Jason and Jillian being a thing was so repulsive to us that we didn’t want to believe them becoming a couple was an actual possibility.
However, our worst fears were later confirmed as it was revealed in an episode of the Official Adventures in Odyssey Podcast that the actress currently portraying Jillian, Monica Padilla (who took on the role from Emily O’Brien), acted opposite Townsend Coleman (the actor who portrays Jason) in a chemistry test before she was cast in the role. Additionally, Jillian was conveniently hired by Jason to work with him at the antique shop so now they would be spending LOTS of time together. And of course who could forget the time they posed as a married couple in “Nightmares by Constance”, during which they also called each other “Pooky bear” and “Muffin top/Honey bun.” Talk about cringe worthy. 😬😬😬
Now you may ask why do we dislike Jillian and Jason being together so much? Well trust us we have plenty of reasons.
First of all, it hasn’t been made clear yet that Jillian is a Christian. Yes, the writers most likely want us to assume that she is a believer but still that is a VERY important thing that should be made absolutely clear. Especially when it’s the main reason why Jason’s past relationship with Tasha didn’t work out.
Secondly, their personalities don’t work together at all! They are the complete and total opposite of each other! Like oil and water and as we all know oil and water just don’t mix no matter how hard you try. Of course Jason and Jillian’s differences are used as a reason by Jillison shippers why they would be a great match as they would help “balance each other out.” In fact, it even seems like the writers themselves are doing the whole “opposites attract” storyline with Jason and Jillian but in this case it doesn’t work. We believe that you can be attracted to someone who is different from you and that their strengths can compliment your weaknesses and vice versa, but we also believe that you have to share at least a few similarities. Jason and Jillian don’t have anything in common whether that be their personalities, hobbies, or interests. Something which makes them completely incompatible. Jillian is irresponsible, flighty, and doesn’t seem to have a real focus in life. The woman has had like twenty jobs! In fact, when we first heard her we thought she was like twenty years old (seriously). Imagine our shock when we found out she’s actually older than Connie. On the hand Jason is driven, passionate, and focused in everything he does. Sure he may be a bit reckless at times but everything he does, whether it’s working on an NSA assignment or doing mission work, he puts his whole heart and soul into it to make sure that it gets done! He never gives up or quits no matter how hard things get (look at “The Labyrinth”). Jillian was ready to call it quits on her jewelry business after not being allowed to set up her booth in what? Four places? Whatever even happened to the jewelry booth? She went through the whole hassle of hanging it from a tree and we never see it again. The writers probably “forgot” about it because they wanted her to work in the antique shop with Jason. Because of their differences they have a lot of trouble getting along with each other, and if that is the case when they’re just co-workers, imagine what it would be like if they were together. If this was real life, a romantic relationship between them definitely wouldn’t last!
Thirdly, Jillian doesn’t seem at all like the type of girl Jason is attracted to! We know people change and can fall for someone different personality wise than those they usually date. But Jillian is WAY different from Tasha and Monica. Like a complete 180! Tasha and Monica were strong, independent, and intelligent women who challenged Jason. Tasha shared Jason’s sense of humor, wit, and their personalities bounced off each other so well which created a great back and forth banter which we loved. (Just listen to the dialogue in “A Name, Not a Number” between Jason and Tasha ). Same with Monica and Jason (That scene where she teases him about his “expert” fire making skills is so funny and good) but that is not the case with Jillian. She is just so different (and not in a good way) from all the other women Jason has liked and her interactions with him pale in comparison to those that past love interests have had with him.
Fourthly, they have NO chemistry whatsoever! If they did then the scenes where they played a married couple would have been fun, exciting, flirty, and romantic rather than cringe worthy and awkward which they most certainly were. Jillian kept trying to play her part of the gushing wife while Jason kept telling her to keep a low profile and be quiet. It just seems like the writers keep trying to find ways to push them together even though the majority of AIO fans (and all the fans we know) don’t want them to be together.
Finally, they have no real feelings for or attraction to one another! Jillian’s liking of Jason feels more like a crush a teenage fangirl would have on her favorite celebrity, rather than real feelings a woman would have for a man she deeply cared about! And as for Jason he has absolutely no feelings for Jillian at all! In actuality, Connie even admitted in the episode “Good Job” that Jason doesn’t even really like her. There have been some fans of the couple that have said Jason’s behavior towards Jillian is just a cover up of his deeper feelings. However, this doesn’t make any sense as that is something he has never done before. When he liked Tasha and Monica his feelings for them were quite obvious. He rushed off to Geneva as soon as he heard that Tasha was the agent who was kidnapped. It was made quite clear that if it wasn’t for Tasha being in danger he probably wouldn’t have gone. Even Donovan knew Jason would go because of Tasha. He had the plane all ready to go. When Jason first heard he had to work with a intern in Alaska he wasn’t exactly thrilled. But when he saw Monica (who wasn’t a college student as he expected) he quickly changed his tune (It was SO obvious that he was flirting with her). However, in the case of Jillian he shows NONE of those feelings. So yes the annoyance and frustration he feels by Jillian is VERY REAL!
And because of all these reasons, we do NOT want Jason and Jillian to get together but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. Please feel free to leave your thoughts and opinions. We would love to see them.
