Can you elaborate on your adam and blake post and what could have been better? because the VA herself didn't give me vibes of being afraid like an abuse victim
i've talked before how i think tauradonna functions as a caricature of an abusive relationship & why it can be hard for people to relate to this because of that but mainly it's the point that we never actually get the relationship.
we get mixed recollections of the relationship before blake ran away, where they were mentor / student, potentially more, the comic has it that blake pursues adam while he doesn't want her & the vas are outright calling him a pedophile.
then we have the most outlandish "abuse" scenes that reek of caricatures because we don't have the "normal" basis of their relationship to see this build up in the actual cycle of abuse. we don't see the honeymoon period, the build up of tension, the incidents & what follows that. we have adam preaching like a one note, saturday morning villain & then him physically assaulting blake but in the context of them being enemies, which muddies the waters.
without this being a defined relationship & them actually being fleshed out, the abuse defines them & then becomes a caricature. ironically the writers developed a more realistic & believable abuse storyline in blake's treatment of sun in v4, where they have their honeymoon periods & then blake mistreating sun because he made her angry or did something she didn't like.

It's kind of depressing when you realize out of Team RWBY, Weiss is the only one who get's constant development. Ruby doesn't get any character development until maybe Vol 4, and it was still sporadic at best. Yang and Blake got some good development up until Vol 7 where it feels like if it didn't involve Bumblee, then they didn't get anything (And in some cases you could argue going backwards...). So, this might be my bias talking (Weiss is best girl), but Weiss is the only one on that team to me that got anything in a constant enough rate. Only time I think she didn't develop was in Vol 9, but that was Ruby's time to shine so I'm not really upset with that one.
Yeah, when you think about it, there really wasn't much character development for any of the supposed "main characters" of the series, especially since they're also the titular characters.
Ruby's character development was like a David Cage game of Beyond: Two Souls, showing us Ruby's highs, lows, lows, lows, and LOWS of her character development, all before circling back to a HIGH just in time for her series to get canned. It's a sad sight.
Blake's character was centralized on the White Fang. She was in the White Fang until she left, then she finds out the White Fang are up to something in Vale to the point that it exhausts her, then she helps stop the White Fang in Vale and Mountain Glenn, then Yang was framed, and Blake thinks she's becoming Adam again, then the White Fang attack Beacon and Adam cripples Yang so she runs away to Menagerie to protect Yang and everyone she knows and learns the White Fang are up to something in Menagerie until she breaks everything up in Haven. Things go right for Blake overall until Adam shows back up and she and Yang murder him with no consequences. It is from this point that Blake's character arc with the White Fang ends and her entire character now becomes Yang's girlfriend. I've said it before and I'll say it again; Blake is the worst girl of Team RWBY.
Yang's character trait is that she has no character trait. None that's ever properly established. She's Ruby's sister and/or mother figure, but hardly interacts with her. She likes to party and get into fights, but we don't see her do either. Her mom is a bandit, but we don't know if Raven really loves Yang or not. She lost her arm to Adam, but she didn't really learn anything from that whole experience; again, nothing that we can see. And now Yang's character is Blake's girlfriend. I put Yang higher than Blake only because what story COULD be told isn't just the same story over and over.
So, now that I've gone over some issues of the others, let's talk about Weiss' character arc. Weiss is physically scarred by a trial set by her father in order to get into Beacon, and once she arrives, she's an uptight spoiled brat who expects to be handed the position of Team Leader. After she's humbled by Professor Port, she steps up as Ruby's second-in-command. She's pursued romantically by Jaune, whom she rejects outright multiple times until Neptune shows up, whom she romantically pursues until he starts flirting with other girls in front of her, though Jaune helps Neptune ask her to dance, and from there she and Jaune are on better terms as friends (which can be seen in V3 when he calls Weiss after getting out of the locker Pyrrha shoved him in). During V3, she's approached by her sister and financially cut off by her father. After the Fall of Beacon, she's forced to return home and is basically put in a sort of Brittney Spears house arrest, where she's only allowed out by her father to do whatever he wants her to do (I think that's what happened, I'm not really aware of what exactly happened during the whole "conservative house-arrest" thing from a few years back), until she escapes and is then captured by Raven until she's rescued by Yang. They then go to Haven and reunite with Ruby and Team JNR, and once Blake comes back, Team RWBY is back in full swing!
Okay, I think that's enough to make the point, but I do want to bring up something that is going to piss people off, because of course it will. It's about Weiss' likely endgame ship, White Knight. I said before that RWBY doesn't know how to do romance, but... Looking at the character developments of both Jaune and Weiss and they just somehow start leaning closer and closer, contrary to how they started out. Like, I know I'm not the only one seeing two characters with full-developed characters starting to get closer, so how is it that BMBLB sucks so hard with their story if it's the canon flagship?
Don't believe me? Think about what I was talking about with these characters. Do you know what the biggest difference is between the stories of Weiss and Blake and Yang? The answer is that Weiss actually has a story. Blake and Yang just are just... two halves of one whole. Weiss is completely independent of Jaune, and yet they both managed to grow without each other. I'm no relationship expert, but if you're relying on another person to have a character arc, that's not a healthy relationship- That's codependency.
Oh, but what do I know? I'm just an idiot on the internet who makes incorrect quote posts. My opinion is invalid and should be tossed out and disregarded. Tata~!

"Why does Rwby write it's female characters as people instead of anime waifus and have the male mc being a biracial afrolatino boy(Oscar)instead of my blonde blue eyed white fave >:("Oh woah..........I mean,it's not like the creator was happily married to his wife and partially based the fem mcs off his female friends because he loved them and wanted to make them happy and was also an moc and inmigrant of several kinds of mixed descendents.................That'd be absolutely insane and unrealistic

probably just me being butthurt but genuinely kind of pissed off at people “praising” neo for what she did in this last episode. and i don’t mean in a like “ruby deserved it way”, i just mean in a “common neo W” or “she ate and left no crumbs” like?? neo is a grown woman and literally traumatizing a 17 year old minor?? like i get it if you love a character and stan them and everything but y’all are literally stating your love for her actually partaking and encouraging someone to commit suicide. and maybe this is me just being way too connected to ruby and feeling everything that she’s been going through way too hard, but some of you are genuinely pissing me off with how much you are excusing what neo did in this last episode

So, answer me this, will you?
If RWBY is as bad as some people claim it is, why does it have a large, dedicated fanbase, 9 seasons, 2 crossover movies, a spinoff anime, a lore mini-series, a mini-series dedicated to fairy tales within the setting, a comedy parody series, crossover comics, 2 novels, 3 video games, and tons of merchandise? That’s not even counting all the fan made art and stories.
Last I checked, series that are unsuccessful and poorly written don’t get that amount of content. So is RWBY actually bad, or are you just spiteful because it wasn’t exactly what you personally wanted?

No you don't get it. You don't understand. You worship your heroes and your world renowned hunters who haven't shed blood in the name of freedom and you think you did something. You feel attached. You feel attached to a hollow husk of glorified angst that serves absolutely no purpose other than to be a vessel for privileged white cissies and heteros.

Jaune: Your moms sound lovely!
Pyrrha: Of course they are!
Jaune: If you don't mind me asking ... has it always been just your moms?
Pyrrha: Yes! Mama's the one that carried me, Though the technoogloy so that two women may have their own biological child wasn't around of course, so they got a sperm donor from one of their friends!
Jaune: Do yo know who?
Pyrrha: Hmm. I don't. I suppose I was never that curious about it. I should ask them about it.

Yang: Hey, where are the lovebirds?
Nora: Beating the shit out of their parents.
Blake: Why?
Ren: In order for Pyrrha to be born her mothers needed a sperm donation. Jaune's Father offered.
Blake: ... Oh shit.
Nora: Yeah. It's fucked up.
Yang: So they've been fucking sibling this whole ti- AAHHH!
Pyrrha: *Attacking Yang* SHUT THE HELL UP YOU JOKE-MAKING PRICK!
Jaune: I can't believe it. This is it. My life is over. I fucked a sister. This is so fucked up.

Opinions on blake In general?
Blake.... Is a complicated one. XD
I love V1-5 Blake, I love her passion and her messiness and the fact that she's an abuse victim, but not a perfect uwu sad eyed one that's always sympathetic. I love that she stands up for herself and others, I love that she struggles to get close to people but is so actually caring and is just misguided due to her self-worth issues and that she learns and grows in volumes four and five and stops trying to push people away. I love that even though I wish it was explored more, we see Blake start opening up more to her team and trying to trust them before the Fall of Beacon throws things off for her again, I love that we see the actual effects of what Adam put her through, but that they never defined her and she always was strong and she always was ready to tell people when she thought they were wrong. And I even like things like her moral code which I thought made her a more interesting character, and I know it isn't popular in my circle of rwde but I even like the 'secret nearly princess' angle. Although I hate how her parents were done, Blake actually being this important person who didn't take the chance of a somewhat leisurely life and instead chose to spend her time freedom fighting for years as a homeless teenager? To me that's a good idea with bad execution. Blake being an imperfect character with so much good to her made her so interesting!
V1-5 Blake (V4-5 mostly) suffered from the writers' completely not caring about physical aggression between allies/friends/romantic prospects (like Nora hitting Ren and Qrow hitting Oz and Yang hitting Blake,) and primarily from the writers complete refusal to write the anti-faunus/racism angle well. While I don't agree with the people who say Blake's life was super great and easy and she never fought Grimm and never faced anti-faunus discrimination I do think that if they were going to portray Blake as more privileged than most of her fellow Faunus we see (having her parents safe, having a home to go back to, her parents being wealthier than most Faunus we've seen, having her able to hide her Faunus traits) then they should've addressed that. And the writers making Blake yell at her fellow Faunus that they're actually hurting themselves and that they need to help the humans who oppress them and prove that they're nice enough to not be a threat to the white people I mean the humans... It's so messed up. I get why a lot of people can't see past that. But like with Sun dismissing the White Fang as horrible jerks despite it being prior to their acts of terrorism, I try to chalk it up to 'how the writers use POC coded characters to verbalize their own horrible problematic viewpoints' and try to enjoy the characters past it.
However, Blake's next biggest problem is Blek. Around volume six, the writers drained Blake of pretty much every character trait she had. Her feisty behavior, stubbornness, protectiveness, the fact that she was a hard worker, the fact that she was active, the fact that she was more cynical, the fact that she called people out, her former relationships, her temper, her quiet humor, her more serious nature, her passion, her compassion, her justice driven nature, all of that was gone. All of what made Blake who she was as a character was stripped away, and instead there was this meek sweetheart sad eyed girl ducking her head when anyone got angry and waiting on her friends to tell her what to do and making jokes about how Weiss's family is just oh so rich and blowing off the political rally against Jacques Schnee to go out dancing. Seriously, every line out of Blake's mouth since boarding the train to Argus sounds like it was written for Velvet, not Blake. She's an entirely different person now, and although I may have liked the imposter if she was her own person, the fact that I'm meant to think it's Blake just makes me so frustrated that I can't enjoy it. I think volume 6-9 Blake actually would be really cute paired up with volume 6-9 Weiss, but then I think 'that's not Blake' and I just get mad. I catch myself thinking about directions I would take the character of volumes 6-9 Blake in, like learning how to stand up for herself, and then I just think 'Blake already STOOD UP FOR HERSELF.' I'll think something Blek does is kind of cute actually, and then it'll occur to me just how better the show would be if Blake was actually still in it.
So yeah. Volume 1-5 Blake? Has some severe writing flaws but is imo an otherwise great character with tons of potential and I love her. Volume 6-9 Blake? Blek, an imposter, Velvet in disguise or something, and I cannot enjoy anything she does because I just miss Blake!

Can someone explain to me why I feel a lot of Blake fans and Bees fans are super ableist when it comes to Yang’s trauma over losing her arm and her rightful anger at Blake abandoning her?
I saw this Bees comic on Twitter that had Yang say she was “acting like a child throwing a tantrum” when she was mad at Blake for abandoning her, despite the fact that like. Blake KNOWS Yang has abandonment issues and still did it anyways.
Like why do Bees and Blake fans constantly undermine Yang’s issues in this when the narrative literally says Blake is gone? Maybe I’m just venting but I’m really frustrated about it.
It's because they are.
If they aren't connecting Yang's traumatising amputation to her sacrificing it for her love of Blake, they're sexualising it, or ignoring Blake infantilising her in Volume 6 because of it, or how it was denounced as extra in Volume 8, or Yang's complete detachment to it in V9.
And especially worse is Yang's very valid anger at Blake for just abandoning her without even giving her the decency of saying goodbye to her face. Let me say this, I don't hate Blake for needing a break like everyone else after the traumatising events of Beacon.
But just because she was traumatised doesn't mean she is allowed to just abandon Yang, someone who she not only knows was abandoned by her mother in the exact same way and hasn't recovered from it still, but without even saying a word to her.
Yang just lost an arm from directly trying to protect Blake. She wasn't given a note, she wasn't given a reason, she wasn't even given a goodbye. She found out that Blake left because Sun saw her go.
She was right to be angry about that, and Blake should've apologised to her, especially since Blake never actually meant to reunite with them in Volume 5. She had no idea that her team, including Yang, would be at the school when she went there, because she went there to stop Adam.
Which is the problem when you separate one of the four mains from the main plot for two whole volumes.
And then in Volume 6, Blake actively infantilises Yang and believes she can't do something as simple as grab a fucking bag because she has to help from her guilt of letting it happen.
She never apologises for any of this, and Yang has to just either accept it or comfort Blake because she feels sad. And that's a major issue with Blake.
Everyone has to stop and comfort her when she's sad even when she's the reason for their trauma. It happened twice with Sun and Yang, who both had to let go of their very valid trauma at her hands just to comfort her.
Blake is actively a horrible friend and girlfriend, and I wish no one got with her in this show until she did some proper soulsearching.

the mere fact that Yang used a laser pointer on Blake AFTER she learned she's a faunus💀
And have her ask Blake if Faunus sniff each other's butts (RWBY Anthropology), and puts on animal ears in front of Blake (RWBY Anthropology), and have her comment about how Blake's ears are the reason why Yang likes her romantically even though that's relating Blake to a cat (Vol 9), and have her never giving a damn about Blake's cause in the Faunus civil rights conflict when she still has it.
Hey CRWBY, if all of this canonically means that Yang is a fucking racist, why do you still have her do it? :)
Is it because you don't fucking know what you're doing, and if you even attempted to write an actual racism subplot with black people instead of allegorizing their struggles into fucking furries, your fanbase would've recognized your racism much sooner? :))))
Is it?

Thinking about some observations regarding RWBY redesigns.
Yang is typically the one where you can see a lot of the artist/writers biases bleed in. The one where you can get the immediate "is this good or bad" design stuff. Where you can see the designer's understanding of the characters become most apparent.
Blake tends to get hit with the "plot biases" stuff in a similar way, and who's design you can see the specific "direction" where the AU is going. The writer's understanding themes become apparent here.
Weiss and Ruby, by contrast, tend to be more "similar" to their mainline counter parts, most often at least.
....
If Yang's early volume redesigns are hornier (in an "straight anime fan" way), it is a bad sign.
If they down play Blake's experiences as an abuse survivor, it is a bad sign.

God, just. The fact that Blake was trying to help Ruby the way that Ruby has always helped her, that Ruby earned her admiration for. Trying to be the one to keep them moving, to keep them determined that they can do SOMETHING.
And not only does it not work, but Ruby immediately rebukes her because she's so TIRED of being the one to do that. Blake was only trying to help, and she unintentionally hurt Ruby even more.
The way that Yang holds no anger whatsoever in her voice when she says 'hey' to defend herself and Blake when Ruby mocks their getting together. The look of guilt and horror on her face as she finally realizes that her sister is faring far worse than she suspected.
The pain and fear in Weiss's expression. She's gone from doubting Ruby's ability to lead to having complete, unwavering faith in her, and now her best friend is telling her that she doesn't have faith in HERSELF anymore.
Jaune realizing that Ruby is just as broken as him, realizing that he's only hurting her even more, realizing that she's carrying the same weight that he is, but that she's been keeping it so deeply buried until she can't anymore.
Somebody give them a hug ;-;
