say what you will about chabad but getting a bunch of jewish children to scream-sing "i'm a jew and i'm proud and i'll sing it out loud cause forever that's what i'll be" is top-tier actually and no one is doing it like them
not to be That Person but when people are like “why isn’t there a big fandom culture anymore?” umm…
maybe this is why???? That an author can spend hours (if not days or weeks or months) on something, have 1,800 people read it, and only have THREE people willing to take a few extra seconds out of their day to comment. Not even something as simple as “thanks for sharing” or “second kudos” or “❤️”
I’m not the internet police. You decide what you do with your time. Just don’t be surprised if the result is that creators leave your fandoms. I’m not writing to scream into the void. If that’s what I wanted, I wouldn’t bother posting. Fandom is a community. It’s an exchange of enthusiasm over this thing we all love. And who’s gonna keep showing up at your house with a goodie basket if all you do is take the basket, slam the door, and leave them outside to watch through the window while you eat?
The constant fight seems to be "Bruce Wayne would help the city more by fighting poverty than punching people" which is true, vs "Bruce Wayne does do that in the comics" which is also true. I think the real issue is that to enjoy a Batman story, you have to accept that it is reasonable to spend any amount of money at all on dressing like a bat and punching clowns. If that's just too silly for you (and it is in fact really silly!) then no amount of Bruce Wayne giving to in-universe charity is going to change that.

Got an ask from someone claiming to be in Palestine needing mutual aid? Unfortunately there is a scammer going around and it’s likely the ask you got sent is the same one being sent by multiple accounts who target users interacting with Palestine posts. These blogs use the text/images off a real fundraiser and then post it here pretending to be the person it’s made for. Their accounts are usually only a few days old and they don’t interact beyond the ask/follow. Lately they might make the link to their PayPal account in different colors or claim their GoFundMe is pending so you will assume the real one is theirs. They don’t have any GoFundMe’s set up. They steal from them. If you need proof of something being stolen, searching the text of their post in a search engine should pull up the source. If you know how to report PayPal accounts, please report those used by the scammers.
(Moved to new list)
Below is a growing list of fake/stolen names used across the accounts:
Nour Samar | maryline lucy | Fred Odhiambo | Jeff Owino | Valentine Nakuti | Conslata Obwanga | JACINTA SITATI | David Okoth | Martín Mutugi | Daudi Likuyani | William Ngonyo | Fred Agy | George Ochieng | BONFACE ODHIAMBO | Sila Keli | John Chacha | benson komen | Alvin Omondi | Jacinta Sitati | Daudi Likuyani | Noah Keter | Faith Joram | Rawan AbuMahady (any PayPal’s using this name are scammers who have stolen it off a real GoFundMe. The real person does not have a PayPal account that they post on tumblr.) | Asnet Wangila | Remmy Cheptau
Keep in mind this post isn’t saying all accounts asking for mutual aid in Palestine are scams. Rather, this post is meant to bring awareness of a scammer stealing money from those who really need it by pretending to be a person in Palestine. To report scams, use this:
On Twitter there are currently a lot of Christians and Muslims getting really angry about ways that Jews work around restrictions on work during Shabbat, and, like, honestly I do not understand why they care? Just a lot of non-Jews telling nice Orthodox Jews that they’re doing their religion wrong for no reason.
Sorry if this is a weird question, but is there an english torah translation you'd rec? I haven't hebrew since I was a kid, so can't read it, but want to try reading through the books again as an adult. i'm seeing 'The Contemporary Torah, Jewish Publication Society, 2006' recommended and NOT recommended, so have been a bit confused.
thanks
the one my rabbi recommends is robert alter's translation. this one does not have hebrew, but it does have a lot of annotations and explains why certain translation choices were made.
i also highly recommend sefaria.com. it has a ton of different translations in multiple languages (including a couple of jewish diaspora languages like ladino, yiddish, and judeo italian!) and a ton of commentary. you can add niqqud as well as notation for cantillation, change the format to put the hebrew next to the translation, and also it's free!
