Two London shows highlight the influences of music and architecture on sculptor Anthony Caro’s work. The latter is more successful than the former.

1967: "On Anthony Caro's Latest Work"
I couldn't find a copy or a facsimile of this essay, save for a reproduction in an exhibition catalog from the 2015 show "Caro: Works from the 1960s" at Gagosian Beverly Hills. Anthony Caro was an abstract sculptor who came to fame in roughly the late 1960s and early 70s. He was in the same circles as David Smith, who Krauss has written about extensively.
Krauss begins her essay with the mild antagonism of formalist critics and their preposition of the artists' work as in a (time-linear) progression. As she has done before, taking an opportunity to talk about Frank Stella rather than the artist at hand... however, once she gets to Caro, she calls his work "uncomposed," which is an odd way to consider sculpture, as, by way of construction, composition is inherent. She remarks on Greenberg's and Fried's negative evaluations of Caro's color use to express growth in his work, saying that it is "sensuous and palpable."
In addition to considering color, Krauss notes Caro's (seemingly) newer consideration of the viewer in relation to his pieces. She draws a line from the abstracted illusionism as established by cubism to Caro's latest work; depending on which angle you are viewing his work, the perspective drastically changes.
She as she closes states:
"The sensation is nearly one of fixed, geometrical space, of space made mathematically, by means of a model of two-point perspective, as the smaller rear columns and the rushing orthogonals of the grills seem to act out a dry, a priori notion of distance."

Almost in Time...
I would've posted this yesterday, but I had a doctor's appointment and those always throw a wrench into my whole day. Ugh! Anyway, for Madonna's birthday yesterday, this is from my recent visit to Madame Tussauds Hollywood. Here I am, paling in comparison to her wax visage.
Tumblr media
Using my actual cane there. I'm starting to wonder if I need a hip replacement, too. There's a couple more pics I want to share, as well...
I hate how I look in this picture, but I was desperate for a chance to pose with Marlene Dietrich. As you all know, she is my favourite actress ever! Yes, I was singing along to the overhead speaker playing, "Falling in Love Again," in my Dietrich voice. I do a killer Dietrich impression! (What do you expect? I've been practicing it since high school!)
Tumblr media
Bette Davis and competing bitch faces, lol. I love her, though I have a slight preference for Miriam Hopkins.

This one is from the Hollywood Museum/ Max Factor Building. This is the original set from Silence of the Lambs, reassembled in the basement! It includes original props, such as the shortened folding chair in front, so I could feel small and intimidated by Dr. Lecter, too. (Jokes on them, I always fancied him!)
Tumblr media
And the two stars I had to see, as they're my fav bands! The Monkees:

and the Bee Gees!
Tumblr media
That's all with me in them I have. I think my mom may have accidentally deleted a few, as I had ones with Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra and Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara. And you know how much I love them!

Born in Sheffield, John Hoyland (1934-2011) is regarded as one of Britain’s leading abstract painters.
Anthony Caro writes: "John Hoyland was every inch a painter. He invested colour, paint and its application with generosity and richness. The paintings stand for nothing but themselves. From his early linear works, through to the great slab pictures of the 1960s to his very latest sun – or moon – burst paintings, his art has warmth and authority. He was highly respected as an artist and his art remains the yardstick by which English painters can measure themselves and their work.
His conviviality, his sense of humour and his down-to-earth response to the world masked a depth of human feeling. He had real sensitivity to other people's feelings. He was quite without guile. His loyalty was exceptional. Although I knew him before, I discovered the real John in 1969 when we travelled together to South America as the two representative British artists in the São Paulo Biennale. In his dealings with others, his decency and his integrity shone through. We became fast friends and remained so to the end.
John's students relished his unconventional approach. People enjoyed his company, his bubbling sense of humour. He liked good food and drink and a good joke. But beneath it all lay a seriousness about the importance of art." https://www.theguardian.com/.../02/anthony-caro-john-hoyland

Small Huskerdust story!
(HUMAN AU)
Skylar: Husk
Anthony: Angel
Angelina: Read to find out!
—————
Skylar was at the casino, he was about to win that round of poker. The man was really good at playing and cheating.
On the stage, a beautiful blonde girl with blue eyes began to sing a slow song to ambience the casino, accompanied with jazz instrumental.
Skylar couldn’t help but focus on the girl, she was mesmerising, so pretty and hot.
As soon as the man finished, trying to focus as much as he could on his game, he glanced at the stage, she wasn’t there anymore. With now more than just a few bucks on his pocket, he stood up and sneak to the backstage, where he saw a boy that slightly looked alike to that girl. Skylar assumed it was her brother or something so he cleared his throat and spoke:
“Hello, I’m sorry to disturb but have you seen a beautiful blonde girl with freckles and blue eyes? She was the singing on the stage just a couple minutes ago”
The boy giggled.
“Caro mio, why are you looking for her? Do you know her?”
Skylar stopped to think for a moment, he’s come to far now to just back off.
“Yes, I do indeed, gentleman”
“Okay… what’s her name?”
Simple question, Skylar listened to her name before when she introduced herself to the crowd.
“Angelina”
The blonde boy nodded, perfect.
“So…sir… why are you looking for Angelina? Are you two friends? Acquaintances?”
With a small smirk Skylar answered with a firm and confident: “We are lovers”
The other boy had no more questions as he lead Skylar to Angelina’s dressing room, he opened the door and stepped inside along with Skylar, then closed it. The light was on but nobody was there.
“She’s not-… here?”
Skylar was confused.
“Oh? I thought you wanted to see me, honey~”
At first, he wasn’t catching on what was happening. The gambler glanced around, he saw Angelina’s clothes on the floor and a wig. Oh.
“No- oh my lord…”
Anthony giggled, leaning back on the wall, his arms crossed
“Sorry to disappoint you, handsome”
Skylar, whose face was hidden behind his hands, let out a small smirk and then chuckled.
“This wasn’t a disappointment, it was more of a surprise”
That took Anthony out of guard.
“What-? You thought I was a woman! How can it be a surprise to you? How can you- not look disappointed?”
Skylar approached closer to him, leaving some personal space to not make Anthony uncomfortable.
“I like who I like, why would I be disappointed?”
