Throw Me To The Flames
You could drag me through hell if it meant I could hold your hand
Summary: Elain only ever meant to deliver a message to Vassa on behalf of her sister's court. She never intended to see Lucien.
And she CERTAINLY didn't mean to get in the way of a knife that was only ever meant for his chest.
Kidnapped, and dragged helpless to the continent, the two will have to work together if they want to survive.
Note: HAPPY HOLIDAYS to my BEST @acotargiftexchange, @fieldofdaisiies
I hope you enjoy this as much as I have enjoyed hanging out with you!!!

There was nothing but dark, and the occasional pull on Elain’s ribs. Elain would rise towards a pinprick of light only for the pull to recede, allowing her to slip back down. Elain was happy, even as she began to claw her way back up, confused as to why she was so exhausted. Why she couldn’t rouse herself?
It was with a gasping breath of fear that Elain returned. Hand clasped to her breast, she said, “I’m dead.”
A body shifted on the white blanketed bed beside her. “Hardly,” came the rich timbre of Lucien’s voice. “You’re merely taking a well-deserved rest.”
Elain recognized the room—Arina had given it to her when she’d first come to Day Court. Lucien stretched out his long legs, drawing in a breath of air. It was the only one he’d get. Elain flung her arms around his neck, throwing herself into his lap in a desperate bid to reach him.
“Lucien,” she breathed, pressing her face into his shoulder.
Lucien groaned, as if the pressure of her was too much but he wrapped his arms around her without hesitation. “You scared me for a minute there,” Lucien told her, nosing her hair just the way he’d done those last days in the woods. Elain could close her eyes and she was almost back. How strange, to wish they were still magicless, hiking through an unknown wood. Elain would have traded almost anything to open her eyes and find them still laying naked on a bed of leaves, skin warmed by the sun.
“What happened?” she asked.
“He pulled down the fortress,” Lucien told her with a grimace. “I thought we were going to die. We should have died.”
“But we didn’t,” she replied, tangling her fingers in his hair.
“Eris came,” Lucien murmured, lips pressed to her scalp. “Said he owed me, and afterward we were even. He still owes you, though. A lot more than whatever he’ll promise, so keep that in mind when he comes to you with some uneven bargain. He threw up a shield and saved us both, and in the aftermath, helped me get you across that battlefield. I…” Lucien trailed off, and Elain didn’t need to hear him vocalize whatever fears Lucien had felt during that time. She could imagine.
“Who took him down?” Elain asked instead. “Once he was mortal, who killed him?”
“Nesta and her Valkyries,” Lucien replied. “Lady Death versus a Death God. Nesta was terrifying. She’s waiting to see you, and part of me thinks I shouldn’t keep her waiting.”
Elain chuckled. “Oh, stop. Is everyone okay?”
Another kiss. “Thanks to you. Elain, you were so…so reckless, and so brave, and I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you how much I am in love with you.”
She looked up, dragging herself away from his scent to really look at him. Lucien was working a muscle in his jaw furiously, as if fighting back some wave of emotion—and the expectation that despite everything she’d done to prove otherwise, the feeling was not reciprocated.
“You doubt me?”
Lucien cleared his throat. “I believe you care–”
“I love you,” Elain interrupted, impatient with Lucien. That was hardly a new feeling, and she was delighted to learn he could still infuriate her even when she loved him as much as she did. “I am under your spell, Spell-cleaver.”
He reached for her face, holding it in his broad, calloused palms like she was something precious. “What am I going to do with you?”
“You could start by taking off your clothes,” Elain suggested, reaching for his shirt and tugging at the laces half tied against his collarbone. “Maybe some inspiration will come, then.”
Lucien frowned. “You’re hurt, and I’m too afraid of your sisters to admit I took you when they’ve been waiting to see you.”
“They know what this is like,” Elain reminded him, well aware she wasn’t going to get her way. Lucien was far too noble, and likely still injured himself. Frowning, Elain still unlaced his shirt and pulled out the collar, looking to see if he’d been marked by Koschei—Elain remembered those crisscrossing wounds over his chest, slicing through his perfect skin without care or concern.
It wouldn’t have mattered, she told herself. She would take Lucien in any form, under any conditions. Still, she exhaled with relief when she saw nothing but his smooth, unbroken skin just beneath. The world could stand to be kinder to him, she thought, and if she had to enforce it with the blade he’d given her, so be it.
“Have you spoken to Helion?”
Lucien, who’d spread his legs every so slightly, blinked at the question. Elain could scent his desire simmering beneath his nobility, betraying him. If he thought she’d behave herself, he was wrong—she ran a finger up the side of his thigh, eyes never leaving his face.
His cheeks flushed. “I—for a moment. I’ve been so worried and I…” he trailed off, catching her wrist before she reached the seam of his hip and what lay just between. “Stop that.”
“We had less than a day together,” she reminded him, creeping closer. “Isn’t it driving you mad?”
“Yes,” he replied, swallowing hard. “And I can wait another. So can you.”
“I don’t want to wait another day,” she complained, but it was no use. A knock on the door didn’t pull them apart, but it did keep Elain from pushing Lucien against the pillows and just doing whatever she liked. Elain was certain, given how aroused he smelled, that his restraint was hanging by the thinnest of threads.
Nesta could too, given the way her eyes narrowed in his direction the minute they stepped into the room. Elain was ushered out, separated from Lucien just like she’d once feared. And Feyre and Nesta did have questions, though Elain thought she may have been uncharitable when she’d worried they would accuse Lucien of forcing her.
It was never asked, and though Elain knew from Azriel and Jurian that they had initially assumed Lucien had kidnapped her, when her sisters asked for an account of her time in the forest, they never once insinuated Lucien was anything other than a gentleman.
She supposed murdering Beron had alleviated their fears that Elain had been coerced. There was no question as to where Elain would live—Feyre seemed to understand without needing to hear Elain say it that she would remain with Lucien. Wherever that might be. Elain told her sisters of their plans to visit the other court, while promising she had no intention of vanishing off the face of the planet.
They’d still see each other. They’d still be family, regardless of where Elain ended up. It was enough, at least for now. They had an eternity together. Nothing had to be decided at that moment. Elain knew both Feyre and Nesta were looking forward to true peace and a chance to breathe without the threat of danger constantly looming over their heads.
They all wanted time with their mates. Time with their friends—with family.
It was that thought that sent Elain through the open, warm corridors of the Day Court. She found Arina in the sprawling, expansive personal library of the High Lord shelving a book likely twice as old as Elain. The last time they’d seen each other had been right before Elain left. Arina had been in charge of everyone in the city—had they failed, she would have been the last defense against Koschei.
“Heard you saved the day,” Arina commented, green eyes sliding toward Elain. The white of her dress swished around her legs, dragging over the marble floors just beneath. “How does it feel to be a hero?”
Elain scoffed, earning a smile from Arina. “Hardly.”
“That’s what they’re saying. Elain Archeron—God Slayer.”
“I’m surprised you’re still here,” Elain said instead, heart thumping wildly at the title. She hoped that faded in time. She didn’t want recognition for doing the right thing. Arina made her way towards another tall shelf, running her fingers along the spines.
“Are you?”
“What about Eris?”
“Ah.” Arina turned then, facing Elain fully. “What about him?”
“I just thought, after everything, you’d want to be with him.”
“I don’t know him,” Arina replied easily, pulling the book she wanted with nimble fingers. “And I doubt the new High Lord of Autumn is looking to further disrupt his court by bringing in a wife from another territory. Eris and I are…we’re complicated. I owed him my life—now we’re even. I think we can leave it at that.”
Elain wasn’t sure she could—not when she stumbled on Eris mere moments later, clearly making his way to the library. For the flickering second before he saw her, Elain was allowed to examine the new High Lord outside of his awareness. There was a pensive, almost fearful look to him. As if he knew that Arina was not going to leave with him and the knowledge made him nervous.
He smoothed it over when he caught sight of her. “Baby sister.”
“Don’t call me that,” she replied.
“What else would I call you? You were initiated into the Vanserra brood the moment you buried my own dagger in my body.”
“You deserved that,” she informed him primly. Eris offered her a feral laced smile.
“When did I argue I didn’t? Stabbing me with my own blade, plotting to kill a High Lord…it’s very Autumn Court of you.”
“What do you want, Eris?”
He ran a hand over the fine green tunic he wore. Eris was nervous. It seemed strange, given how utterly confident he always seemed to be. Eris jerked his head toward the library.
“Does she want to see me?”
Elain shrugged. She couldn’t get a good read on Arina’s feelings, especially when it came to Eris. “What did you do?”
Eris’s eyes flashed, and Elain expected him to tell her to butt out. That it was none of her business what had happened.
“She dances,” Eris finally told Elain, his neck straining as if the memory infuriated him. “And Amarantha asked to see. Arina danced for hours—beyond the point of collapse. Cruelty for cruelties sake. Be glad you weren’t alive for any of it.”
Elain waited, nodding for Eris to continue.
“I put myself in Amarantha’s path as a distraction,” he finally said, his eyes very much warning Elain not to ask what, exactly, he’d agreed to in order to protect his mate. “She didn’t owe me for it.”
“She thought she did,” Elain replied. Eris only nodded.
“Well. Maybe I could have been clearer in the following days. Thank you,” he added, as if Elain had done anything beyond poking his still healing wounds for her own idle curiosity. “I expect I’ll see you in Autumn one of these days.”
“Maybe,” she agreed, unsure if that was smart. Eris had turned, stopped only when Elain asked, “Why Nesta?”
Eris looked Elain up and down, his lip curling in a sneer. “Nosy.”
And that was that. Elain resigned herself never to knowing why Eris had asked to marry Nesta knowing he had a mate as he walked away, his boots clipping against the marble.
She’d learn in time. For the moment, all she wanted was to make her way back to Lucien.
And so she did.
LUCIEN:
With Elain gone, there was no avoiding the inevitable. Lucien stared at the male before him, wondering how he’d never noticed their similarities before. Helion, seated in a high backed chair, crossed and uncrossed his legs nervously. They’d been sitting in total silence for the last ten minutes, waiting for the other to speak.
Lucien smoothed his hands over his pants. “Have—have you spoken to mother?” he finally asked. Helion’s golden eyes flashed with relief.
“No,” he replied, which was just as well. Lucien might have murdered him had the answer been yes. Or worse. Let her grieve, if that was what she was doing. Or breathe, at least, given Lucien couldn’t imagine being genuinely sad Beron was dead. Maybe sad for her children, for her court. The last thing she needed was another High Lord chasing after her.
“Have you?” Helion added when it became clear Lucien had nothing else to say.
“Not ah…not yet.” He was planning to see her somewhere neutral–Spring, perhaps. Lucien didn’t think Elain would be welcome in Autumn anytime soon. Beron would have had sympathizers and he didn’t know if Eris meant to purge any of them.
Helion nodded, steepling his fingers. “I…” he trailed off, eyes glazing over for a moment. “I know this isn’t ideal. You’re grown and you don’t need me. But if you need a home…”
“Right,” Lucien agreed, wishing he was anywhere but there. Helion was so clearly trying, so obviously hopeful and curious and Lucien was confused. “Did you know?”
Helion’s cheeks darkened with shame. “I did.”
Anger flared like a spark for only a moment, dying before it ever caught flame. “He would have killed her,” Lucien said, the words curling like smoke in the air between them. “I was better off masquerading as his son.”
Helion kept his eyes on the floor, studying his golden sandals as if they were the most fascinating thing he’d ever seen. “I know it’s not worth much, but I love your mother. And I was afraid, which is not a good quality for a parent, in retrospect.”
Lucien’s mind snagged on an old memory—of Tamlin coming to his bedroom days after Jesminda had been murdered to inform him Helion had come by. Lucien hadn’t thought a thing about it at the time. A lot of courts sent diplomats to try and lure him out of Spring where they assumed he would be wasted. Lucien had been too lost to grief to consider any offer faithfully.
“You came to Spring,” he said. Helion looked up, his eyes so hopeful and earnest that Lucien thought there was some path forward for them. “You weren’t High Lord.”
“I thought I might convince you to come to Day honestly,” he admitted.
“It’s probably for the best I didn’t,” Lucien replied with a half smile.
Helion nodded. “There’s time now. If you want it, I mean. There is time.”
“I’d like that. I’ve promised Elain time here, at any rate.”
Helion offered him a smile, backlit by the sun pouring through the windows behind him. “Consider this your home, if you’d like. You’ll want help with your magic as well. I am available to you both.”
Lucien stood, thinking that for the first time, there was nothing but an endless stretch of eternity before him. It had once made him miserable to consider, so much so that he’d often wished Beron had taken his life, too. That he hadn’t fought so hard to escape when he could have let his brothers kill him.
And now Lucien felt nothing but hope. The future seemed soft—gentle, even. Lucien was grinning by the time he found Elain, stretched out on a chaise as she stared blankly into the void. When he came in, her eyes snapped back to life and a soft smile slid over her pretty face.
“You look happy,” she commented.
“I am happy,” Lucien replied, reaching for her. Elain squealed, legs flailing as he dragged her to the bed. “I am so happy, and do you know why?”
“Helion offered you a job?”
“What? No, Elain, I’m happy because I have you.”
“That is lucky, Lucien.”
He’d promised himself he wasn’t going to touch her. He’d sworn he was going to leave her be, that he’d swallow the insistence of the mating bond and wait until enough time had passed between Koschei and Elain before he even thought about her naked.
Elain pressed her thigh between his legs, her fingers tugging at the strings of his shirt with an insistence that made his blood hot.
“Elain,” he tried, but Elain covered his mouth with her own.
“Shut up, Lucien.” Who was he to argue? He did want to tell her what he’d learned, and put up no fight when Elain pushed him to his back so she could straddle his waist.
“Helion–offered—us—a—place—to—live,” he tried, forcing each word out between hungry kisses. Elain raked her fingers through his hair, humming in response. That’s nice, stop talking Lucien, her tone implied. Certainly, her body, grinding against him, was demanding he give in.
“Thought we could stay for a while. Ride out the—fucking cauldron Elain—the frenzy,” he panted, arching into the hand curled around his cock. When had she gotten his pants off?
Elain smiled, letting him rip the dress she wore clean down the middle. “There you are,” she whispered, stroking him up and down. “I was starting to think I was the only one lost to the bond.”
“I have been lost since the moment I first laid eyes on you,” Lucien replied, his mind too addled to come up with something witty or clever. All he had was the truth, laid bare before her just like his soul.
“Much better, Lucien,” she whispered, sliding down the length of him without prompting or preamble. Lucien forgot words entirely then, lost to the grip of her body and how it felt to share space in her body again. Time was meaningless—each minute was a second, was an eternity.
Lucien pulled her against him sometime late into the night, working to catch his breath before he had her again—and again.
“Elain, I–”
“I know, Lucien. And I wouldn’t change any of it,” she added, cheek pressed to his chest, just above his beating heart.
“I would do it all again, to end up like this,” he murmured. Elain smiled.
“I love you.”
“I know,” he replied, kissing her fingertips. “And I love you.”
His mate loved him. It was everything to him.
Everything.

6 is Queen of Kings by Alessandra. That song is/was incredibly addictive and i listened to it extremely on repeat ever since discovering it. i feel the message lyrics-wise is pretty cheesy and basic feminism 101 buuut it's super fun and dynamic! can't resist :D
19: townie - mitski. on sunny days i go out walking / i end up on a tree lined street / i look up at the gaps of sunlight / i miss you more than anything. this is simply one of my favorite songs in the world! i think about it every time i look up at the trees. i love trees and look at them a lot, so this happens often. i also am a strong supporter of the sentiment that you always take the people you love on a walk with you, even when you walk alone. i'm always missing someone, so whenever i go for a walk, in my head, i'm walking with the people i love and miss, thinking how i would show them around my city and my neighborhood and my park. so you understand, of course, why this song and i are one.
francis forever, that was my answer for francis forever. im so dumb and confused and confuse sounds and words with the same picture in front of them all the time :) it makes living my life very hard.
anyway i love townie also for its energy and rage and grief - to me it's a song about growing up, being a teenager about to leave home. i love it's resolution (i'm not gonna be who my daddy wants me to be / i'm gonna be who my body wants me to be) i love love love the line and i want a love that falls as fast as the body from the balcony, and i want a kiss like my heart is kissing the ground hello! insanity! is it dying is it falling in love is it growing up..
but i digress. the reason i listened to it so much is bc of this fancam by comradekatara. thee azula/zuko (but mostly azula) thesis of all time and a personal cutural reset to ME!
29. old friend - mitski. another banger by mitski! love the nostalgia and what-ifness of this song. to me, this song is a sister song to two slow dancers; missing someone you went to school with, but now you're older, some shit has happened between y'all that makes it hard to keep in touch, but through the pain and bitterness there's love and a constant aching (in my head, this song is during the time where the two ex-classmates are still youngish, like say 20s or 30s, wanting to reach out but the old wounds still burn so they don't. then in two slow dancers they reunite at a school gathering years later, when they're in their 60s and think about how they'd do things different if they had the chance). anyway this song makes me want to bite the γυψοσανίδες.
39. mama - mcr. what can i say abt this song! an absolute banger and a classic!
43. savage good boy - japanese breakfast. yessss that's one of my favorite songs! love by someone destructive singing about how they love only one person, would drown and burn the world but for one person... apparently it's the sopranos fanfiction which is the main reason why i wanna watch the sopranos. but even without that knowledge, the sentiment still gets across!
44. the only heartbreaker - mitski. this song resonates bc it reminds me of the dynamic in my past relationship. but storytelling wise, i like how it seems like the narrator of this song is resigned to their fate of being the only heartbreaker, even after becoming somewhat aware of the unequal dynamic. that's delicious to me!

Barbie: Princess Charm School Review 👑🧚‍♀️✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'll start with the things I liked about this movie.
My favorite thing was definitely Delancey's character development. She went from a spoiled future princess to a humble and kind young woman. We're introduced to her character pretty early on, during the lottery in which Blair (Barbie) is chosen as the one commoner who will attend Princess Charm School. At first, Delancey has a permanent snarky expression, and clearly says to Blair that the lottery is a joke and she has no place among royalty. However, about halfway through the movie she begins to realize there are others who are less fortunate than her, and begins to care for them. She starts to defy her mother and helps Blair and her friends get access to the magical crown, knowing that would put her own future at risk. In short, we stan Delancey!!
My second favorite part of this movie was the soundtrack. On Top of the World is a banger. I love the motivational message as well as the growth Blair goes through during that montage. The Headmistress is an icon for believing in Blair and tutoring her so she can reach her "princess potential". She could've easily been a secondary villain and made it more difficult for Blair to attend classes. So I liked the decision to make her a positive role model and mentor for Blair.
On to the things I didn't like so much.
The opening song, You Can Tell She's a Princess, establishes that you don't need a crown to be a princess, and that it's something that shines from inside, and shows from your actions and character. Blair is shown working in a coffee shop, and soon after we are introduced to her family, which lives in a run-down, poorer part of town. She is kind, caring, gentle, patient and everything a real princess should be. As her younger sister said, "every girl is a princess, some of them just have fancier crowns".
Yet as the movie reaches its climax, it is revealed that Blair was the lost princess all along. This completely opposes the message of the entire movie and all of Blair's hard work. I know it would be scandalous to have Blair/Barbie be a lady royal instead of a princess, and essentially be "less than" Delancey, a supporting character, but the decision to reveal she had royal blood all along undermines the message that any girl can be a princess, as long as they work hard and stay true to themselves (and are lucky enough to win the lottery).
On a lighter note, I enjoyed the ridiculousness of Barbie magic turning the pink and blue school uniforms into sparkly, turquoise, purple and gold DIY outfits. Another goof is the age of the royal family's golden retriever, who is probably pushing 16 or 17 during the events of the movie.
There's also Dame Devin, who is one of the few Barbie villains to have a confirmed kill count. She (kinda) confesses this at the end of the movie, where she says she had the King and Queen "eliminated" so her daughter could ascend to the throne. Big Yikes. The confession is caught on camera and she is immediately arrested.
All in all, I always enjoyed this movie. I don't consider it part of the classic Barbie lineup, as it was released pretty late (2011), but it's a great bridge from the older classics that were exclusively set in other centuries and the newer movies that are set in the present day.

I feel like you've read my mind because I specifically want Sigurd to be the parent who gets called into the preschool during the middle of the day for an emergency parent-teacher conference about the fact that Julius won't stop biting the other kids.
Also, like, considering Sigurd never got to see his son grow up and all that, canonically, I think he should be allowed to spend as much time with his kids as he wants. But also like. It would be really funny.

Everything happens so much in Jugdral's politics! In Agustria, you have President Chagall flipping his shit because Eldigan, governor of Nordion, is more popular with the people. You have the governor's younger sister running his presidential campaign, despite the fact that Eldigan has said he does not want to run for president of Agustria. (He wins anyway. Quan and Sigurd swear a life debt to Lachesis for making it happen.)
And then in Grannvale, one of Prime Minister Kurth's main advisors is the son of another prominent politician - a politician who killed himself twenty years ago after he found out that his wife was cheating on him, with Kurth. What in the goddamn soap opera hell is that about?
And then in Verdane, the youngest prince disappeared suddenly and then was found a month later shacking up in Grannvale with a priestess.
And the prince of Silesse has a soundcloud and actually has a few bangers.
There is never a dull moment in Jugdral.

Megan Thee Stallion’s boyfriend Pardison Fontaine has spoken out in support of women who’ve suffered injustices. His comments come just ahead of the verdict in the Tory Lanez trial.
For the past two weeks, the most talked about subject in pop culture has been the Tory Lanez assault trialthat’s centered around Megan Thee Stallion being shot in her feet and requiring surgery. The fallout from the court case has been an ongoing gross display of how women who come forward with allegations are treated in the public eye. Instead of grace, Megan has been subjected to hatred and a lack of empathy from detractors.

Meg’s boyfriend Pardison Fontaine took to Instagram this week to get a few thoughts off his chest as the trial comes to a close. Pardi offered something that has been missing over the past weeks; empathy for women who have been victims of violence.
To any woman especially ones of color that has suffered an injustice”.
“To any woman especially ones of color that has suffered an injustice I feel for you,” he wrote. “When you do find the courage to speak up .. it seems you will be ridiculed .. your credibility will [be] questioned .. your entire past will be held under a magnifying glass .. in an instant, you can go from defendant in the eyes of the public .. to anyone with a daughter Sister mother niece or aunt.”
He added, “I pray for their protection… I pray for their covering… I wouldn’t wish this on anyone.”

If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power Review
Where do I even begin with 'If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power'? It is such a good album, it's almost criminal. If I had to pick the best album to be released this year, IICHLIWP would be it. Halsey has always been an excellent songwriter, that was never even in question, but it has been proved once again, in case anyone wasn't paying attention. IICHLIWP is an album that covers so much depth in sound and in lyric. The dichotomy of the Madonna and the Whore, as they said in their announcement of the album, is an overarching theme of IICHLIWP and it is articulated so consummately. The references to pregnancies and childbirth are more subtle than I expected but that's what makes them so genius. This is an album where every lyric is intentional.
My favourite songs are ‘The Tradition’, 'Bells in Santa Fe', '1121' and 'Ya'aburnee'. More detailed thoughts on each track are below the cut. Trigger warnings for sexual assault and miscarriages.
The Tradition — This is the first song on the album and Halsey had already fucked me up so there's that. I got full-body chills listening to 'The Tradition'. The production is masterful. There is this darkness that settles in early and ebbs and flows beautifully, not only throughout the song but the album as a whole. 'The Tradition' already sets up so many of themes of this album, but what a way to talk about sexual assault. I am in love with the entire chorus line but I think my favourite lyric is ‘she got the life she wanted but now all she does is cry.’
Bells in Santa Fe — The transition from 'The Tradition' into 'Bells in Santa Fe' was so smooth I didn't even notice that the songs had changed until I looked at my screen. I don't think I could actually describe how much I adore this song if I took up the rest of my life doing so. The production is absolutely God-tier. Everything from the way it keeps building throughout the song to the percussion to the piano on the second chorus and the distortion towards the end is so perfectly done. You will never hear me rave about production this much. What a fucking song! On top of all that, you have the lyrics that are so powerful. When they said 'cause who the fuck would chose this?' it reminded me of my favourite Manicsong, 'Forever... is a long' where they sing 'how could somebody ever love me?' so that stood out to me. I love the cadence on 'secondhand thread in a secondhand bed with a second man's head' but the lyric 'better off dead so I reckon I'm headed to Hell instead' is probably the one that hits the hardest. My escapist, runaway tendencies felt very exposed by the entirety of the pre-chorus.
Easier than Lying — The way she emotes on ‘you lair, you don’t love me’ is fucking everything. I needed to start with that. It’s my favourite aspect of the whole song. And then there is that obvious callback in the bridge. ‘Easier than Lying’ is the punk sound we were promised of IICHLIWP and they delivered. The Grungy electric guitar, the bass, the production!!! This one goes hard and it makes no apologies of it’s anger.
Lilith — ‘I’m disruptive, I’ve been corrupted, and by now I don’t need a fucking introduction.’ I mean what could I possibly say after that??! Honestly, I love the duality of how this line could be about Halsey but it could also be about Lilith, herself. There is a selfishness to 'Lilith' that I love. When you connect that to the mythology of Lilith preying on pregnant women and the context of this album — it's just got so many layers. Halsey's mind!! I love the sound of this song. The production has a classic rock flare to it. Those drums are so clean and the bass accompanies it perfectly. The smoothness of their vocal on this track is very pleasing to listen to.
Girl is a Gun — I'm not going to lie, this song isn't for me. I get it. The message is right up my street but the overall sound of it just isn't what I personally like. I do love their little laugh at the start! The lyric 'it's a shot in the dark, I'm not a walk in the park, I come loaded with the safety switched off' is my favourite.
You asked for this — This song is really interesting because they gave us a pop punk sound, pushed it to the back of the track, really grungey guitar riffs and all, but their voice is so light and delicate almost, very airy in a way that stands apart from the backing track. I really like it. To me, it's like an emphasis of the message of 'You asked for this'. Young women are oftentimes forced to grow up too soon and 'be a big girl.' Society forgets, I would even say purposely overlooks, that they are 'still somebody's daughter,' one of the few things that is used to give value to a woman. We've all heard people throw the phrase "but what if it was your daughter/sister?" into the conversation when discussing women that have somehow been abused by the patriarchy. 'You asked for this' also calls attention to how when we're younger, all we want is to be grown up but how unaware we can be of what it means to be a woman in this world, the trauma that comes with it.
Darling — The guitar in this song and it’s almost-country sound are what sets this song apart from the rest of the album. ‘Darling’ is a lullaby for their child, but it tells a story of their struggles. It is honest in a way that feels private. Motherhood sounds so good on them!! This song is just a collection of things I love in music. 'Darling' is soothing and it sounds like comfort, in both melody and lyric. 'Foolish men have tried but only you have shown me how to love being alive' is perhaps the softest lyric on the whole album.
1121 — I expelled a heavy sigh when I heard ‘1121’ it absolutely took my breath away*.* This song is a truly moving ode to an unborn child. So many people talk about how they had never known what unconditional love really meant until they had a child. Halsey tells it as such: ‘you could have my heart and I would break it for you.’ I love their vocal styling on this song so much, going between their lower register and those beautiful falsettos in the chorus. The overlapping on the bridge of ‘please don’t leave, don’t leave me in the shape you left me’ and ‘I’m running out of time to tell you, I’m running out of things that I regret’ and ‘you’d never, you told me’ really capture all the wide array of emotions felt by pregnant person upon finding out they are pregnant when they’ve dealt with miscarriage. Her voice emotes the fear of losing another child, the regret of the ones she's already lost, the promise, almost desperate, of the opportunity they have right now. All of these feelings are brought to life further by the production of the song. There is so much depth in '1121'.
honey — Pop punk wlw anthem check. Halsey suits this sound so much. This track, the production, the instrumentation, all of it catered to their voice so perfectly. The sound is so refreshing and yet so classic. I adore the melody. It’s unsuspectingly catchy. I wonder if there are links to ‘Lilith’ with ‘she’s mean and she’s mine’ or if I’m just reaching. Either way, a song about a love that is a little chaotic and wild, sign me up!
Whispers — Whispering on a song called 'Whispers' might be obvious but I'm a basic bitch so leave me alone, I loved it. Lyrically, 'Whispers' was the song that I saw myself in the most. When she said 'camouflage so I can feed the lie that I'm composed,' I just felt far too exposed for comfort. Same thing with 'I do not know me.' And that's what art is supposed to do. The instrumental is haunting and dark. The way they create tension by adding in one instrument at a time. The production is amazing. Top 5 shit right here!
I am not a woman, I'm a god — Not only does this song have the catchiest hook, it’s literally ‘I am not a woman, I’m a god. I am not a martyr, I’m a problem. I am not a legend, I’m a fraud so keep your heart ‘cause I already got one.’ That hook right there tells you everything you need to know about this song. ‘I am not a woman, I’m a god’ acknowledges that one needs not be a woman to create life. They are claiming power to their gender identity through relation to Godliness. Even in the other lyrics, they talk about being ‘a different human in a new place’ or ‘a better human with a new name’ (this line in particular draws direct parallels to trans experiences). Both times, they specifically use ‘human.’ The production of this song is designed to be a single. It’s got the signature darkness of this album, tells the listener where Halsey is at sonically, and it’s a total banger.
The Lighthouse — The way this song just comes in swinging right away with the distortion and the heavy guitars is exactly what I expected from this album going into it for the first time. Very modern punk rock. And the lyric doesn't pull any punches either. 'From a tender age I was cursed with rage,' like c'mon!! I love the melody and her vocal inflations throughout the song. This is the longest song on the album but it doesn't drag. The change up right before the outro really helps with that. I find that outro so interesting. The contrast between the instrumental constantly building but their voices staying so far in the back on the track creates so much tension that is relieved in the best way possible with 'Ya'aburnee'.
Ya'aburnee — ‘Ya’aburnee’ is the perfect conclusion to this album. Halsey said in their Apple Music interview that IICHLIWP is about the power to choose and by the end of the album you realise that they choose love. This song perfectly embodies that. It’s familial. The entire chorus talks of seeing yourself in your kin and the circle of life. The second verse is a clear love letter to their partner and it makes me emotional, knowing their romantic history as we do, to hear them sing ‘wrap me in a wedding ring.’ I love how the lyric ‘you will bury me before I bury you’ is not only a statement of their hopes that they don’t have to live in a world without their loved ones, a statement of how parents should never have to bury their children, but it almost sounds like a protective promise that they will do anything to ensure their loved ones are kept from harm so as not to need burial. The softness of the instrumental on ‘Ya’aburnee’ is feels like unwinding from the rest of the record. It’s such a beautiful song.

you know what, I never do these things, but actually I’ve decided I would like to get to know people better! I would like to partake of the mortifying ordeal! I would like to talk about myself for a bit!
ok for the next...let’s say five days I will answer any of these things that people tag me in, or any random personal questions you plop in my ask box. I don’t have an ask meme on hand but just....pick one you’ve seen recently, or make up questions of your own, and I’ll answer. (the answer might be ‘nope that’s private’ but I will answer.) (@ the anon who asked for book recs - I see you, I’ve been thinking of books all day, I’m going to give you SUCH a long answer, I hope you don’t regret your choices bc it WILL be full of gushing)
alright, let’s go!

Last Song: I’m currently listening to “Falcon in the Dive” from the Scarlet Pimpernel musical on loop. I watched one or two Scarlet Pimpernel movies when I was just barely too young to fully get what was going on, and the story’s held an odd but deep-seated place in my heart ever since. A few years ago I found out there’s a musical and most of the songs are pretty stellar (go listen to “Madame Guillotine” if you like big ensemble broadway numbers, it’s a banger, the bit where he cries out for God has been running through my mind on and off for a few days now haha not like that’s topical or anything), so every once in a while I spend a few days listening to them a lot.
Sometime last year I read the actual book, and got super into the whole concept of the Scarlet Pimpernel for a while. I plotted out Pimpernel aus for several fandoms, I read the entire wikipedia article, and I went looking for bootlegs of the musical. I didn’t find one, but I did find a full radioplay-style recording of the script, complete with full musical numbers, and listened to it like a podcast.
Reader, I was so disappointed. The play adds some scenes, bc a lot of the dramatic tension of the novel comes from internal conflict and that doesn’t stage super well, and the very first scene of this play – a play written in the NINETIES – features our dashing hero rescuing some aristocrats from a French prison, and then saying to the person in the next cell, who begs for rescue but is not an aristocrat, “We have enough of your kind in England.”
Enough! of your KIND! What in the merry frickety HECK my dudes!! The book has some rather unfortunate™ takes but it is from 1905, it’s regrettable but sadly to be expected. This play is from 1997. It has NO excuse. This scene wasn’t even in the book! What! the heck!
I was so disheartened that I lost my excitement for the play, and a couple songs later I stopped listening. It occurred to me just a few days ago that you could actually stage that ironically, with the person in the cell giving the audience a “can you believe this” look, and then the rest of the play could feature assorted non-aristocratic ensemble members constantly looking at the audience like they’re on The Office. And hey, maybe that’s what they did, or something similar – maybe that was never meant to be taken as a cleanly heroic stance, and the play deals with it in a complex way. It’s possible. I wouldn’t know. Kinda doubt it though, based on song lyrics.
Favorite Color: red, probably
Last Movie: I watched that new lesbian christmas movie with my family for christmas, the one with kirsten stewart and the guy from schitt’s creek. it’s very sweet and good and kinda sad, and I really enjoyed it. it also incidentally has the best gay best friend trope in probably anything ever, bc it’s not a trope (I didn’t realize until several hours after watching that it technically fits), it’s just a guy who is the protagonist’s best friend, and they’re just all gay, and then when he Gives Relationship Advice as a gay best friend always does, it’s advice about how to deal with your partner’s hangups around coming out.
actually every part of the gay best friend trope becomes better when they’re just best friends who are both gay. the big dramatic gestures (in this case, driving some ungodly distance in the snow on no notice) go from “haha how kooky” to “queer man will do anything he needs to to rescue his queer friend from an isolating & potentially triggering situation”. the relationship advice isn’t “honey you deserve some self-respect, treat yourself”, it’s a deeply sincere reminder of the vulnerability that is shared across almost everyone’s queer experience, and look I could ramble about this for a long time before reaching a coherent point but I’m INTO IT, okay? I’m into it.
Last Show: you want me to remember what show I last finished???? impossible, cannot be done, it was a long time ago and the adhd has eaten everything that happened before last week. here, instead I’ll tell you about another movie I watched, late at night with my mom in cozy companionship just a couple days ago. it’s called Quigley Down Under and it’s about a cowboy who goes to Australia and kills a bunch of racists, 10/10 would watch again. it’s from 1990 but it feels much older, with the music choices and the cinematography of a 70s Western. the cowboy is great, honorable and fearless and kind, but the breakaway star of this movie for me is the woman who attaches herself to his side and refuses to leave. her name is Cora, and she’s crazy, in the sense that she’s not altogether tethered to reality, but this never for a second diminishes her agency. she’s fierce and clever and compassionate, and she basically never does anything she doesn’t want to in the whole movie. her arc is about overcoming trauma by taking charge of her own fear and facing it head-on, she is never belittled or dismissed by the narrative or the protagonist, and look she’s just so cool. I love her. she’s so vibrantly alive. her story could probably have been handled with a bit more nuance, but honestly for the 90s it’s pretty great. I’m no expert, but I found nothing objectionable in it, just a bit of heavy-handedness.
anyway the theme of the movie is that racism is evil and racists deserve to be shot, and this too could have been handled better (not a single aboriginal character speaks a single line of english in this movie), but it follows through on that message in every way, while still being a fun kinda campy cowboy movie. overall a very good time.
Currently Watching: started showing my sister Hilda the other day, and she’s liking it! I love that show, it’s so incredibly cute. can’t wait to see season 2
Currently Reading: lmao I wish. lately the brain has firmly rejected all attempts to read anything of any length. currently pending, bc I was halfway through them when my brain stalled out, are tano’s fic What Does Kill You Can Make You Stronger, Too, a Toby Daye book - I think it was The Brightest Fell, I got like half a chapter in and haven’t picked it up in over a month, the Locked Tomb series, and probably a few other things too. ooh! also a book called Making Sex by thomas laqueur, which is my fancy academic reading that I’ve been doing in short bursts for the past year or two when I feel fancy and academic. it’s about the development of the concept of biological sex and of gender in Western society, and it’s fascinating. has among other things introduced me to the idea that until quite recently, fathers were a matter of faith. the mother? yeah, you can watch the baby pop out, we all know who the mother is. but the father? how can you know? how can you really know? we have paternity tests these days, but for all of human history up until now, we've just had to take fatherhood on faith. (not to mention we didn’t even know what fathers were contributing to the production of a fetus. clearly it was something, since you can’t get pregnant without a penis getting involved, but we have literally not known what until the past few decades. and that is wild. it has colored ALL of human history, all of our conceptions of society and family and kinship and gender, all of it, and it hadn’t even occurred to me until it was spelled out for me in this book, and it’s just......wow.
Salty, sweet or savory: for christmas my sister and I made seven different types of cookie, most of them involving chocolate somehow.
Craving: no bc I ate so many cookies. unless sleep counts. or maybe pringles, it’s been many moons since last I had a potato chip and I miss them.
Coffee or Tea: no thank you
Tagging: @coloursisee, @krchy-tuna, @sam-j-squirrel, @xzienne, @mirandatam, @viciousmaukeries, @sepulchritude, @elidyce, and @navigatorsnorth bc it’s been a while since we’ve talked, and I’m super hyped that you’re married now. v happy for you!

Tiny Timmy Drake headcanons!
Hmmmm? How tiny you talking? Cause Timmy’s pretty small at any age. Like Timmy by default is tiny Timmy.
But hmmm.
In my head I abide by the idea of a floating timeline. So when ever I imagine 90s Tim (my fav Tim and the default one in my head) I always imagine it in present day, and so I’ve tried to somewhat adapt his character to modern day.
So I’ll just make headcanons that can apply to both pre-Robin Timmy, and as Robin Timmy. With a few maybe just pre-Robin Timmy just in case you meant EXTRA tiny Timmy.
Like he was on message boards and fan clubs as a kid. So I feel like the modern equivalent to that nowadays would be running a fan blog.
He also drew fan art, but in a modern day where that stuff has a community to encourage it. He probably got better at that and became a well known fan artist even though he’s just a little kid.
Has two Robin cosplays. One is clearly literally just his briefs and a red shirt, with a really bad cape and some green converse or what ever. But when he got laughed at by his friends over wearing it so much he spent the money to actually buy a more spot on cosplay. To which his friends still laugh cause the costume looks freaking ridiculous, but Tim doesn’t care because he loves Robin so freaking much.
Probably owns lots of Super Hero pajamas and action figures. I know he owns a robot action figure for real when he’s 15, so he definitely plays with action figures, and they’re always on and off on if Super Heroes have merch. But I like to think they do, and that Tim has a full-on Super Hero action figure collection.
Met Cassie without even knowing at a comic con. Both in cosplay as their favorite heroes (a prequel addition to the headcanon I already shared on the Cassie post). But they had no idea. Tim went to it with some boarding school friends since his parents where busy and it was in town, and Cassie’s mom took her. She joined them for a little bit and Cassie’s mom mostly went along with it because “WHY ARE THESE KIDS UNSUPERVISED”. They don’t really realize it till much later when they’re both in Young Justice and do it again and they just stare at each other for so long cause “Something about this feels like Deja Vu”.
Other people already have this headcanon and shared it with me even before, but I also just share it, where his teddy bear he’s shown as having, and implied to hide, was from his mom and he uses it to calm down his anxiety. But when he was in boarding school and he mostly just had a room to himself or with another kid who I like to think was his friend since Tim seemed pretty cheery back then he openly kept it on his bed. But when his dad came back, Tim hid it, because Jack always kind of comes off like a guy that’s like “BE A MAN, TIMMY” and sort of shuns soft stuff like that.
During the middle of the night when him and his boarding school roommate (which I don’t know if he actually ever had, but lets say so for this), and they were both awake having midnight talk since they couldn’t sleep. Tim actually said he thought Bruce Wayne was Batman after a lot of prefacing that his friend couldn’t “tell anyone”. His friend blew it off as ridiculous and that Tim needs to stop obsessing over Super Heroes so much.
Has a long lost older sister that his parents never told him about because they gave her away because they “weren’t ready”, and knew Tim would be very upset about it, even at a very young age.
Has a tik tok, it’s very cringy but a few go viral mainly cause Tim’s just so cute in a dorky baby way that people shared it. Tim didn’t realize some were laughing at him so he kept doing it till he realized. Later Ives finds out and makes Tim do it again for his big “comeback”. Tim in the earlier comeback ones clearly looks very annoyed and awkward cause he didn’t really wanna do it. But later on him and Ives makes some bangers.
Used to jump on the bed a lot until he broke the springs and was too embarrassed to tell anyone he literally broke his bed. So he just slept on a broken bed till his days at boarding schools were over.

The Royal Report– A Crown of Candy Ep 16 For Candia (Part 1)
The Second Most Stressful Conversation All Season
The Rocks family sails up to Cola River, concealed in Primsy’s ships with a small contingent of soldiers. As they go, they pick up another set of allies--the remaining knights from Theo’s order.
Ruby gets called to speak with her mom and dad and Cara asks her to close the door behind her. When she speaks, it’s with more candor than she’s ever used with Ruby that we’ve seen. She says that all she’s ever wanted for Ruby was her safety and she tried to secure that by protecting her from secrets but now she is truly a woman grown and the best way to protect her is by sharing secrets, an approach Ruby seems to appreciate.
Cara fills her in on what she and Amethar learned last episode--Ghee died before she married Amethar. That means she’s still queen, he’s still king, and though Rina is still Amethar’s first born heir, Ruby is also trueborn.
Ruby asks if they’re going to tell people and Amethar says he wants to wait. Things are heightened right now and it would make things weird in battle. Ruby says that if that’s what he wants, she won’t tell anyone. Ruby also says she doesn’t trust Rina’s people, something Amethar cites as another reason he doesn’t want to tell people yet.
Cara asks Ruby’s opinion on Rina and she says that she thinks she’s dangerous. Cara agrees and Amethar thinks she’s being a little harsh in her assessment but Ruby goes on. She thinks that Rina has tunnel vision in her hatred of the church and there are good people who follow the Bulb (again, Cara is a devout Bulbian). Cara chimes in that Port Syrup is in ruins because of her people. Amethar wants to delay all this talk but Cara drops an absolute banger of a line, “Amethar. The delay of conversation has been perhaps your most cardinal sin.”
Ruby thinks that maybe Rina can be good but her people are full stop, bad. She didn’t order Port Syrup sacked (good) but it was by her people in her name (bad) and she doesn’t seem super bothered by the collateral damage (also bad). However, she does think that maybe if she wasn’t surrounded by these people, she'd make different choices.
Cara says that with Rina on the throne, Candia’s future is written in flame. She says that Theo was pretty quick to join up with Rina and asks Amethar what he thinks he’ll do with the new info about his kingship. Amethar thinks he’ll be loyal so she thinks maybe they can tell him but Ruby points out that he’s not good with secrets. Cara says that’s a wise observation. She also says, in not so many words, that this is going to be a dangerous battle and during dangerous battles, sometimes people--like your husband’s pesky half daughter who is bumping your own daughter in the line of succession and has a merry band of war criminals--die.
“Hey, you’re talking about my daughter,” says Amethar.
“I am talking about the future of Candia,” says Cara.
She tells Ruby that if she doesn’t think it’s a good idea to talk to Theo, that’s fine, but she should listen to her heart. She has the sight for the future to come and “If fortune cannot be on our side, we will have to do what fortune cannot.”
The Most Stressful Conversation All Season
The ship continues to sail upriver. Brennan makes a little roll that he doesn’t announce but seems entirely too pleased about.
There’s a lot of debate about arriving and attacking and they decide to get to Dulcington late so they have cover but can attack when it starts to get light and have some visability for archers and such.
It’s the middle of the night as they approach their destination and Rina hears a knock at her door. It’s Swifty and, wouldn’t you know it, he just eavesdropped on a *reaaaaaal* interesting conversation by the royal family (we get a quick cut to Brennan’s mystery-roll). But before he can spill the tea, she stops to tell him (and Gooey who is also there doing the bodyguard thing) that she was *not* about the carnage of Port Syrup. They NEED to be better than that. These people may never accept her but she doesn’t want them to *hate* her. Swifty is like, “lol, about that.” She tells her what he heard--or at least *some* of what he heard. He tell her about the death/wedding timeline and about the fact that they’ve been sitting on the news for a day (leaving out the bits where Amethar defended her and Ruby thought she might be good) and implies that they’re waiting for her to die in battle (something Cara implied in fairness) or kill her themselves (a little more of a leap--but not by much). Rina, not quite seething but something akin to it, says that if they had just told her this information, she would have worked with them seeing as the crown was only ever a means to an end for her but they had to be dishonest with her. Swifty says he’s excited to waste all their enemies during the upcoming battle and, once it’s over, if she wants them to turn their slaughter efforts a little closer to home, she just has to say the word. In response, she says she wants to speak to Theo so she can seek his counsel. She also reiterates that the Port Syrup debacle was a full war crime and shouldn’t have happened regardless of her relationship with the Rocks family (Swifty and Gooey exchange a glance she doesn’t fully parse) and then Gooey gets Theo.
After some weird flirting with Gooey (he makes an appointment to get “slammed big style” [sic] by her), Theo shows up to talk to Rina. She says that she’s been helping the Rocks family a ton in battle but she’s only been rebuffed. Is it worth it? Should she keep helping them? Theo says that he’s known the family for a long time and they’re good people who wouldn’t hurt her. Rina says that Theo is an honorable man and she trusts that even if he doesn’t side with her, he’ll do the honorable thing. Then she tells her what she knows, info that he is, of course, hearing for the first time. On an 18 Insight check, he knows he’s not being lied to and he knows he has a choice to make. He remembers Lazuli, all those years on their first meeting, telling him to think for himself and he amends his earlier statement. He might have spoken too soon about Amethar. He’s reckless, he wishes he could have worked for any of his sisters rather than him, and he clearly doesn’t have love for all of his family based on the way he’s treating her. He’s officially Team Rina (like he kinda was before but even moreso). She makes it official by casting the Dedication version of Ceremony on him and he feels more connected to her than ever before (also +1d4 to all Saving Throws for 24 hours).
War is Hell (to Recap)
The group gets into position with a bunch of stealth checks to get ready for their dawn attack. Despite pledging himself to Rina, Theo doesn’t want to work against Amethar and he wants to tell Cumulus. Rina agrees since she doesn’t fully trust her people and she thinks it’s good to bring another trustworthy person in on this.
Right before fighting breaks out, Theo gives the CliffsNotes version to Cumulus (ie: there is some weirdness in the line of succession and the family is plotting without us) and also messages Liam that Rina is potentially in danger, getting back the message that he’ll for sure help protect her. Ruby rolls Insight to see if she can tell Theo’s being weird but with a Nat 20 deception check from him, she’s sure that Theo is loyal to them above all else and would never betray them.
OK guys, here’s the deal. Almost everything else in this episode is truly just chess. Moving units across the board. Taking out troops strategically. Placing minis. Stuff like that. Not at all interesting to recap or read. So all you really need to know is, “The Rocks family and their numerous allies (cheese sailors manning catapults, monks, Candian fighters) get into position and the fight begins at dawn, with them doing pretty well once it starts.” Pretty much everyone gets to do at least one clutch thing and you can check out the episode if you want more detail than that.
The only really important thing to know is that Kerradin is there, Grissini is there, and Plumbeline is there. In fact, not only is she there, she comes down from the castle walls so she can ride in on her meep chariot and knock Theo prone.
Unfortunately for her, she hasn’t gotten the news about Peppermint Batman. Three attacks+flanking+sneak attack+favored enemy damage+bursting arrow+hail of arrows=58 damage to Plumbeline immediately.
As she stands over Theo, two crossbow bolts explode through her eyes and she drops down dead.
And that’s it for this episode! Join us next week for the actual finale of a Crown of Candy!
1 Million Years Dungeon
SWIFTY!
Man, Swifty really is the personification of Brennan’s craving for some sweet, sweet PvP action huh?
You homicidal little chaos gremlin, it is BAFFLING that you have the queen’s ear and I hate it.
Things I’m Concerned About
Emily had Rina use the word “fools” and I know that she grew up on the same Disney movies that we did where fools is an antagonist exclusive word. Hate the implications of that!
Do you remember what I said about Cara in her literal first appearance? I generally like her but I’m getting some light Lady Macbeth vibes. Well here we are. It was so weird to see her and Ruby getting along but I really loved the scene. So tense and so careful with every word. (Also, I *knew* that info was going to get to Rina as the conversation was happening and I was bracing for it but it was still like, damn).
We still haven’t gotten to, “Family is exposed, family is vulnerable.”
That look Gooey and Swifty shared? Don’t love that.
So, as I’ve been concerned about for a while now, we’re gearing up for some PvP. It still doesn’t have to happen but things are getting dicey and lines are being drawn. Theo has made his allegiances known and Cumulus from way back when said he stands with the magic of Candia, not the Rocks family--plus he just pledged his whole order to her. Ruby and Amethar obviously are on the same side if this happens (though you know no one wants to avoid PvP more than him) and I think Liam would be more inclined to stay with the family if it comes to it, though he also doesn’t seem like he’d be down for this.
Continuing on from my last point, if there’s a big PvP fight potentially on the horizon and the other side has a DRAGON and also ALL THE HEALS...mmm, I wouldn’t love that. Oh also, I didn’t mention it in the recap but Rina said she wasn’t gonna waste her spells on Ruby/Amethar anymore which is a SCARY THING for your HEALER to say before the FINAL BATTLE.
Edit: I forgot to mention (s/o to @fjordgofurther for the sideways reminder)! Because of the way it’s been framed (“we will have to do what fortune cannot”) and because of the poetry of it and, practically speaking, because they’re the two main casters, if it gets to PvP I can see it ending up being Rina and Ruby, head to head and...do not care for that image one bit lemme tell you.
Five More Things
I am VERY happy that Rina told off her crew about their casual war crimes because it would have dropped by opinion of her HUGELY if she was just chill about it.
I don’t want to downplay the amount of work that went into the battle stuff in this ep. There were a lot of cool large scale battle mechanics and home rules for fighting with troops and letting them use your abilities and stuff. But it’s very hard for me to recount that without sounding like a history textbook chapter on the Civil War or something and I’m not Ken Burns.
Place your bets. Blessed Ally Nat 20 on the wish-egg-seed or on icing Kerradin?
Very wild that they destroyed the afterlife RIGHT before this fight. Like, before they knew that if they died, they could at least still talk to their loved ones to some degree. But now that’s gone. Perma-death is suddenly extra-perma. I wonder if that was a conscious choice on Brennan’s part.
Did I ever get to say, “newly *mint*-ed” with regard to Liam’s Peppermint Batman status? I don’t remember and it would be a shame if I hadn’t.
I have more thoughts but this episode ends so clearly midway through the action that I feel it’s best to leave them for the actual finale.
One More Thing!
As I’ve mentioned on here before, I’m working on an audiodrama podcast which should be dropping later this year! Absolutely No Adventures, a podcast about avoiding dangerous quests, making weird friends, and baking. It’s also a podcast about baking.
The Twitter handle is @noadventurespod and we just got our art!
I’m very excited to start releasing stuff for it and I hope some of y’all check it out!

The Loud House’s The Ultimate Party Review
As always with my reviews, there could be spoilers!
Lincoln and his siblings are back with The Ultimate Party, the first new chapter book in nearly two years since Campaign Chaos!  Again, Lincoln is the narrator as he plans the ultimate party for his parents, which is their anniversary. However, what he and his siblings didn’t realize that amidst all the activities planned on the family calendar, the anniversary is today! In no time, he called for an emergency sibling meeting—while the rest of the Loud siblings are still sleeping on an early Saturday morning. Lincoln’s the Man with a Plan—will he be able to pull this off?
But it turns out that the girls have problems of their own over who will be in charge of certain aspects of the party. After they calm down, Lincoln gives Lucy, Lana and Lynn jobs to do; and while they do so, Lincoln treks out to buy a card and ice cream from Flip’s. Then it all went downhill from there: When Lincoln returns home, he found the mess Lucy, Lana and Lynn made during the party preparations and got angry at them; in return Lucy, Lana and Lynn are also angry at him and leave him behind with the mess, which he has to clean up.
Lincoln spends much of his time being frustrated with himself. A miracle then happens: the McBrides offer Lincoln help with his parents’ anniversary party. They secured Banger’s & Mosh to themselves to hold the party, which is the place where Rita and Lynn Sr. had their first date. Lincoln reconciled with his sisters, everything goes well on track, the parents got surprised, a great party ensues and the story ends happily, with Lincoln being praised with everything he went through to give his parents the best party of their lives.
It’s another amazing story with funny moments, plus a heartwarming message about family. Lincoln has good intentions at heart and he really wants to honor his parents for the anniversary, but he did kind of messed up by barely thinking things through when he planned it with his sisters. On the other hand, I also feel that the sisters were somewhat in the wrong, too. They were kind of ungrateful after everything their parents done for them, especially when they always taking them places where they needed to go (Lincoln even reminded them of that), and they even fought amongst themselves while Lincoln wanted them to work together. But, happily, they did work together in the end.
Observations:
The book introduces a new character: Duke, the owner of Banger’s & Mosh and friend of Harold and Howard’s.
Speaking of Harold and Howard, the book reveals that they were together at least since their college days, and together they were popular on campus.
Many callbacks to past episodes are in The Ultimate Party, including “L Is for Love”, “Good Sports”, “Scales of Justice”, “Present Tense” and “Party Down”.
Lola once cut a large part of Lori’s hair because she accidentally messed up her beauty sleep. You don’t want to mess with her!

Top 20 Songs of 2020
Okay y’all, here’s my top kpop songs of 2020 list for this year (finally, good lord this year felt like an eternity). These are the 20 songs that I felt really made an impact on me this year and why 💕
Starting from last to first, here we go!
20. Dr. Bebe, Pentagon - this song deserved so much better tbh the music video was everything, their acting was excellent and the vocals were *chefs kiss* i also loved the dark, creepy vixx -reminiscent vibes
19. Back Door, Stray Kids - Ok like objectively i know that God’s Menu was like their piece de resistance this year, but Back Door was just so fun and had a great bass line and the choreo was SO good
18. Cry For Me, Twice - this literally JUST came out like two seconds ago but let me tell you cry for me has legit been stuck in my head from the SECOND i heard it just ask my sister she’s this close to killing me next time i sing the chorus
17. Red Sun, Dreamcatcher - Let’s be real, dreamcatcher’s entire studio album was perfect from start to finish, and red sun was a standout among that perfection for me like from the magical mystical instrumental to dami’s absolutely earth-shattering rap line, just absolute gold my dude
16. Kick It, NCT 127 - This was a very polarizing song for a lot of people i feel, but for me the concept was literally executed to perfection. It had so much potential to be cheesy and gimmicky, but it totally wasn’t and i think it’s because nct 127 committed SO wholeheartedly to the concept
15. So Bad, StayC - THIS song. I actually already had my list all written out when i discovered so bad by stayc and i literally had to reconsider my ENTIRE existence. They are so so good with such a talented production team backing them and they’ve literally just debuted.
14. Dun Dun, Everglow - A lot of people really hated this song, and don’t get me wrong i had my own issues with the line and screen time distribution for sure, but you can’t deny it’s a total banger
13. Nonstop, Oh My Girl - This is the kind of song that i never really expected to fall in love with. It’s bubbly and cute and quite like youthful, but oh my girl honestly pull that concept off so well and they had me immediately hypnotized
12. Be In Love, Itzy - 2020 was the year of bailey eating her own words aka the year of me falling in love with itzy. when itzy debuted i seriously thought if they stuck with their concept i probably wouldn’t ever be into their music but lmao. they showed me. anyway this b side is seriously underrated and it really shows the girls vocal talents off, especially lia and yuna
11. Love Killa, Monsta X - hyungwon. that’s it that’s the post . . . jk but for real, visuals popped off. love killa was exactly what i’ve been wanting from mx for the past year or so. they hit the nail right on the head with the this one.
10. Secret Story of the Swan, izone - my relationship with izone is basically like my relationship with itzy part 2. I always appreciated them for their talents and having a very recognizeable sound but i could never get into their music. then SSOTS happened, and to be honest it STILL gets stuck in my head at random times
9. Phobia, Stray Kids - i LOVE this b side. for a while i thought it might replace Voices as my favourite skz track, but it just didn’t have the longevity that voices does. that said, it’s still such a good song with an important message did i mention that i love stray kids
8. La Di Da, Everglow - i have said it before and i’ll say it again: no one is doing it like everglow. this song came so out of the blue and blindsided so many people with how unexpectedly different it was, all while being a certified banger. the line distribution is aMAZING, you get to hear each member’s unique flavor, the straight 80’s vibe is immaculate, the styling is God-tier, just . . . everything. i LOVE this comeback
7. Eternally, TXT - if you know me, you know i love a good beat switch-up (i mean, my ult group is stray kids for crying out loud) and ladies. this song is the switch up to end all switch ups. txt somehow managed to combine two completely different tracks, each of which would have been A+ songs all on their own, and somehow make something a million times better. listening to eternally is a whole experience in and of itself and i haven’t heard anything that could compare to it to this day
6. Girls, Nature - UGH. WHAT an underappreciated masterpiece. girls by nature does everything that other companies are so afraid to do with their girl groups: a strictly dark, horror concept, a haunting melodic line with no need for a rap breakdown because it stands on its own as is, a visual concept that does not sexualize the girls in any way but instead tells a story of a person at the mercy of the one they love. it’s e v e r y t h i n g. Not to mention the song has one of the best pre choruses i’ve EVER heard.
5. Wannabe, Itzy - Let’s be honest, you knew this was going to be here. Everyone and their grandma was learning ryujins shoulder move. this was literally the summer of itzy’s wannabe. This is actually the comeback that got me onboard the itzy train and now i’m barreling down the mountain going 200mph and can’t find the breaks
4. I Can’t Stop Me, Twice - I think onces really had no idea where this comeback was gonna go. after more and more got such mixed responses from fans, we all weren’t really sure what direction the company was going to take twice in next. personally, i’m SO happy they went for the retro synth 80’s vibe concept. it was current enough to fish in non fans and keep new onces engaged but they also added their own unique twice spice to it, and i’ve been playing it on repeat for weeks also stan risky risky wiggy wiggi
3. Oh My God, G Idle - Ahhhh, yes. another polarizing song from gidle. omg for me was exactly what i needed from gidle. They’d been playing around with the darker concepts but had never fully committed to the potential that i saw in their music, but with omg we finally got the see them go full out with it, and i don’t think ANYONE could have done it better. The drop while empty was somehow so satisfying, the visials in the mv were visceral and witchy and to think that soyeon wrote and produced such a masterpiece. all i can say is bravo
2. Daisy, Pentagon - if this song doesn’t hold a very special place in your universe heart then buddy i think it’s time to throw the whole heart away. daisy, on top of being the first song to earn pentagon a well deserved music show win, was so emotionally moving from the lyrics to the mv to the choreo. you don’t need to know korean to feel exactly what the writer is feeling when hui sings that chorus, and that my friend is true artistry.
1. Answer, Ateez - Bet you were expecting a stray kids song. answer though has had my whole entire heart body and soul from the second it came out all the way back in january. for it to last a whole year as my favourite song of 2020 really speaks volumes as to how incredibly talented ateez and their production team are. Over the course of this absolute shit year, this song really inspired me to push forward, to keep working toward my goals and to keep believing in myself, and i think that’s a pretty amazing feat for one single song.
Anyway y’all sorry for the unnecessarily long post. I’ve just been compiling this list for months and was really excited to share. If any of my followers or just anyone who reads through this wants to share their own list, id love to see what songs impacted you this year! Happy New Years’ yall!

3,9,12,18 & 33 💬
I know that these are going to be loooooooong so I’ll put them under a cut! Thank you for sending me the rant ones lol 💕 Below the cut is a rant about kindness and Louis Tomlinson and a bit of something else.
unusual(ish) asks
3. rant. just do it
First thing that comes to mind is what we were talking about in our gc today. Why can’t people be nice to each other? It’s sad to see fellow bloggers leave this site because they don’t feel good/safe/happy, like they felt before. I get sad every time I see someone I follow or someone I have seen on my dash deactivate their blog. And I get more sad when they explain that they’ve been getting hate. Some people come here to see and experience happy things, but then they are getting (anon) hate or evil comments etc, which sucks. I can’t relate to this because I haven’t gotten any anon hate - I’m lucky in that way. What if people remembered this: If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say a thing. I don’t get the idea behind anon hate, why would you waste your energy on saying bad things to each other? And if you can’t say it with your nickname/url/name, then don’t say it. And before you send the hate message, think: How would I feel if I got this kind of comment? If you feel like it would be mean and make you feel bad - don’t send it. You can send constructive criticism on someone’s work, sure (if they ask for it), but plain hate is not nice. And if you don’t like someone’s content or blog or opinions - the unfollow button is right there! I feel like people would rather take the unfollowers than the hate. But I can’t speak for everyone here, so this is my opinion and my rant. Remember, YOU create YOUR social media experience by (un)following. Spread kindness around. I’ll use Harry’s line - Treat people with kindness.
On another note, I feel like tumblr isn’t that happy place compared to what it used to be, in my point of view. I feel like there’s a lot of negativity and drama here, which I don’t blame on anyone, it just feels like it. So I haven’t been that active here, yet I can’t really stay away so I scroll around. I have gotten friends from here and I still can find happiness here, but sometimes it feels a bit much, so I might take a break from scrolling around.
ALSO I feel so stressed because of university, I feel like I have too much stuff I have to do so I stress and procrastinate a lot which makes me feel bad about myself.
9. favorite brand of clothing?
I don’t have a favorite brand to be honest, I like clothes that are comfy and feel nice. Although I have to say that Billebeino hoodies are one of my favorite ones - they’re soft and nice and they’re not that expensive (says me, who has three of their hoodies, two of which I have bought when they were on sale)
12. what’s the most interesting schools gossip you’ve ever heard?
I’m so boring, I can’t really think of one... or can I? Maybe one of the most interesting ones was when one boy from our class was caught kissing one girl (who was not in our high school) in the toilet corridor and it was such an unusual couple that people couldn’t believe it. Like, they were complete opposites in every aspect. (who am I to judge tho)
18. rant about your favorite musician
THANK YOU for giving me this time to talk about my fave, Louis Tomlinson. (Harry dear I’m sorry I had to choose) FIRST, Louis is so brave and inspirational. He has been through a lot, one could say he’s been through too much. I will not go into detail, but he’s lost family members and I can’t even imagine his pain. I’ve cried while reading his interviews and while watching his performances, and while listening to his song Two Of Us. He’s so raw in a way, like he shows his emotions and he really shows what’s important to him. His teachers have told him that he’ll never amount to anything, like, that’s not a thing you say to a child/teen/student of any age (side note: do some teachers realize that they have a huge influence on children’s lives?). Rather, you don’t say that to anyone. Louis has said that he doubted himself and his solo career. He has written amazing songs during 1D days, the albums are bangers (listen to Midnight Memories) and the lyrics are so different compared to their first and second album. He’s the one who changed One Direction’s sound from the boyband style to a more mature style. He’s an amazing songwriter and an amazing artist, yet he was insecure about his success as a solo artist. This sounds weird, because he has the potential to be a huge star and he is exactly that. He didn’t believe in his abilities and I feel so sad, who made him think like that??? I’m not completely on board with things but his record label held him back and didn’t promote his songs and album in any way. He was told not to release that song, instead he had to release this one etc. He has had a very bumpy ride to where he is now, and he’s come so far and proved the critics wrong, and I’m extremely proud of him. His voice is angelic, his vocal range is amazing, he’s come from the few lines per album to a song that’s basically Louis ft. One Direction (No Control, check it out thanks) and eventually to a whole album of just him. And more is to come, or so he hinted. The opening/closing line “Nothing wakes you up like waking up alone” in Walls is something very powerful and deep, I think it’s amazing how that line can include so much.
Louis is soft, kind, sweet, adorable and funny. His accent is so nice, you can hear it in his songs and when he talks it’s kind of his own language, but it’s so him. He might seem like a tough guy on the outside with his middle fingers and all that but he’s a real softie and he cares about his fans so much. He has fairy lights around his house, and if that’s not soft enough for you I don’t know what is. He looks adorable in sweater paws and he’s so tiny (yes he’s taller than me but shh) and I love the way his eyes crinkle when he smiles. He’s sarcastic and his giggles are precious. He loves his fans as much as his fans love him. He has said “It’s not a bad life, it’s just a bad day” to his sister, and that quote stuck with me. I don’t necessarily live by any quote, but I try to remember that one everyday.
Lastly, please give this talented man a chance and listen to his album Walls, here’s a link to Spotify. Thank you for reading this. I love him.
33. what do you think about a lot
One Direction. All the stuff around them and the unanswered questions. I also think about life and my future and what if I fail at things. Like what if I fail in my studies or what if I won’t succeed in anything. This got kinda deep, it started as a joke. Oops.

hey, so i thought maybe you could tell us a little what you're currently interested in? ♥ like, what have you been doing during quarantine, are there any new shows you watched that you enjoyed a lot, did you maybe take up a new hobby or something? :)
Hello!! I did not forget this lovely message, I was just in no state to answer (who’d have thought that recovery from surgery is, y’know, taxing) BUT I’M BACK NOW and ohhhh do you know what you’ve unlocked by asking me this question...?? I cannot give you a comprehensive list but I can tell you a couple of the things that I got into during quarantine, and the things I am currently super passionate about! My memory is, uh, not great but thankfully I do journal and write down things so I am confident I can answer this for you :D (plus I do always love recommending things so - aaa??? Thank you for this ask????)
Putting things under a cut because I physically cannot chill but if tl;dr I want you to take away one thing from this it’s that everyone should read Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. Thoughts below.
(Also. I would love to go off about my interests more on here but am not sure what... shape that should ideally take? Text posts? IDK pls give me suggestions, help me out?? dfhasjkldf)
Movies
I have not seen many, but I can and will scream about The Old Guard over and over because... it was everything I never knew I needed in an action movie?? I don’t reblog many things about it anymore but I love love LOVED it!!
Also, upon recommendation by one of my friends from India, I have been delving into the world of Bollywood movies and WOW Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was so fucking good??? idk if it’s on Netflix in every country but it is in mine and I highly recommend it. It’s thoughtful, honest, emotional and shot absolutely gorgeously, and it also has that cheesiness that is just... so good... sometimes you just need the cheese y’know???
(Side note, 2020 was the year I saw Pride and Prejudice (2005) for the first time and I am a changed woman. It is now my ultimate comfort movie. Please see it if you have not, I cannot believe it took me this long. I saw it for the first time on an airplane (in january... a lifetime ago) and have seen it many, many times since.)
TV Shows
So, to everyone’s shock but especially my own, I have not really been into TV lately? I watched The Boys because my brother recommended it (it’s good, but gorey and pulls no punches, the R rating is deserved), and recently started watching Jujutsu Kaisen because my sister recommended it (I haven’t watched a new anime in like a year which is kinda wild to me? But I am enjoying this one - the opening SLAPS and what I’ve seen so far has been fun! Plus I’m watching it with my sister and I like sending her reactions xD),,, and that’s pretty much it for this category?? I am aware there is a LOT of good shit out there I just.. .don’t seem to have the attention span for multiple episodes of a Thing these days. Meh. I’m sure it’ll come back to me eventually ^^
Musical Theater
One of the main reasons I think I haven’t been big into TV is because my Musical Passion is in FULL SWING (haha get it). Probably because the only thing that has remained for me during this quarantine is my singing lessons (and lemme tell you... over skype, that shit is ROUGH but still better than not singing at all) and I have been obsessing over learning new songs and finding shows through recommendations and compilation videos on youtube... So.
Shows I listen to a lot these days include Starry, Anastasia, The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals, Come From Away (I made a post recently specifically about musicals, you should be able to find it under #French speaks) - specific songs in my range that I am currently learning and obsessing over include “Bring on the men” from Jekyll and Hyde, “The Mad Hatter” from Wonderland, “Show Yourself” from Frozen 2 (I liked it ok I DID), and “Go Tonight” from The Mad Ones (this one makes me cry... I’m making my sister duet it with me bc I can’t stop thinking about it).
Also, if you’re interested in hearing me sing things, head over to my instagram where I post covers (and also art)!!
(Musical people, I am curious to hear opinions about Great Comet, and also The Count of Monte Cristo - two shows I’ve been meaning to check out!)
Video Games
Listen. Animal Crossing New Horizons is awesome and I’m glad I have it (...give me Brewster back, Nintendo, or I WILL RIOT), but I have been branching out into other games for the Switch (might as well make this purchase worth it amirite) - current faves include Celeste (which is SO HARD but also SO FUCKING FUN) and Spiritfarer which I specifically bought to play at the hospital bc I knew I was going to be there for a few days, and let me tell you - best decision of 2020. Please watch the trailer if you haven’t heard of it, it’s GORGEOUS and beautiful and emotional and I loved every second of it. Both of these can also be purchased for PC and I think they are definitely worth the investment!!
In other news I’m back on my Stardew Valley bullshit. It’s just so calming.I revisit it a lot lmao
Books
So... I have been reading. A LOT. I read over 70 books this year, which for me is... average tbh? I have had some less productive reading months but overall I have torn through stuff and BOY do I have recommendations if you want them?? For the sake of brevity I will only mention a few here:
Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir “Lesbian necromancers explore a haunted gothic palace in space”. That is all. This was my first five star fiction book of the year and I will never be done screaming about it. There is a dedicated but smallish fandom here on tumblr and it deserves SO MUCH MORE. Please, please please. Everyone should read this damn book. It’s confusing in the beginning but I promise it’s worth it IT’S SO GOOD!! And also the sequel is out and it’s also confusing and SO GOOD!!!
Educated by Tara Westover. This is an autobiography and it’s one of those books that like. Stick in your mind for months after you’ve read it. It’s about how this woman escaped an abusive household that was religiously oppressive and also like... survivalist (prepping for the apocalypse) and avidly believed in conspiracy theories - by educating herself, working her way up to going to Harvard. Nothing I say could do the emotional impact of this book justice - and also just, the perspective this book gave me?? Incredible. Education is the most powerful tool and this woman grabbed it by the hair and did not let go and I was FLOORED. Everyone should read this. I don’t even usually read biographies but DAMN.
The Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden.(Book 1 is called The Bear and the Nightingale). This is a bit of a slow burn type deal - it’s a retelling of a Russian fairy tale (I think?? Or like a folk... story? Something like that) and it is just. So magical. It’s not fast paced but it works up to FANTASTIC moments, the focus is on family and magic and change and “making your own way” and all three of these books were wonderful. It reminded me of Naomi Novic’s Uprooted and Spinning Silver (both of which I also loved back in 2019 and would highly recommend) and they are PERFECT winter reads if you’re looking for something to get cozy with. I liked book 1 well enough but books 2 and 3 knocked it out of the park. Fantastic. Loved them.
I have many more recs but this will do for now hahah
Music
Gonna keep this brief too - my music taste is all over the place, but here are some songs I have been obsessed with recently!! Beware of genre whiplash though because these are Very Different from one another (and different from the musical theater stuff above)
Factories - Autoheart (that bridge gets me every time, idk why. This is one I could have on repeat for hours and not get tired of it either. Something about it just gets me!!)
History Read - The Altogether (The lyrics!! Tbh the entire Silo album is GREAT, but this one is my fave. Their music is so... mellow, in the best way??)
Weather Man - Valley of Wolves (ok this one is just a banger. I’m a sucker for a good sing-along-able hook (that’s not a word. you get me though right) and this fucking DELIVERS. I also just think “I make these dark skies blue, I make these mountains move, let the rain come down, I’m pushing through.... [pause] ... ‘cause I’m the weather man” is such good execution of a concept?? That PAUSE GETS ME it’s just SO FUN?!?! idk man I like a good upbeat banger and this is that.)
I believe (get over yourself) - Nico Vega (this one is just a callout at myself tbh?? “you’re a fool” I AM and I needed to hear it?? It’s also SO FUN to sing!!! We love a banger.)
Kiss me you animal - Burn the Ballroom (mentioning this mainly because it reminded me, lyrically, of Gideon the Ninth and I need someone to confirm this for me before I go insane?? “everybody knows that home is where your teeth sink, love” - I mean c’mon??? Also it’s a banger. I do like some rock from time to time... and this also has a killer driving bassline. This is super fun to drive to, too!!)
((If we have overlap and anyone wants to exchange playlists with me - I am SO here for it. Always looking for new music!!! I mean it!!))
Youtube
Last and certainly not least... meet my newest hyperfixation!!! I have always loved watching video essays, and booktube videos, and arttube videos - and my current niche of favorite creators is the Polygon video team!! They made videos about video games and board games and anything gaming-related and I just. I’m only peripherally a “gamer(TM)” but I love anything and everything they create. (Also you don’t have to know much about video games to enjoy all of their content!! A lot of it is still accessible to Non-Gamers(TM) or casual gamers!) BDG is my new favorite creator, the Unraveled series he does on the channel is a work of genius - but I have also started watching their streams and older series and I am enjoying myself SO MUCH! I love boardgames so their series on them, Overboard, is so fun and entertaining (and I already know a bunch of games I want to buy based on seeing the gameplay), and it also made me invested in the other creators - particularly Simone, I would die for Simone?? And Pat? And Jenna? They each have their niche and they work really well together too and their videos are my Main Serotonin Machine in these trying times(TM), thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Also. If you’re already following me here and you are familiar with Polygon things I BEG YOU TO COME AND TALK TO ME ABOUT THEM because I am like, bursting, but I also don’t want to flood my dash with stuff that 99% of my followers are unfamiliar with y’know??

For the Love of Cars // Lando Norris
So I’ve been struggling with A Double Life // part 3 because of #writersblock so in the last 2 hours threw this trash together so I could just write something. Anyone else?
Pairing: Lando Norris x reader
Words: 2093
Proofread? It’s barely written let alone proofread. It might not even be coherent.
Masterlist
Summary:  A girls holiday Grand Prix trip leads to a series of incredible friendships, but could there be more?
Tumblr media
Girls trips are the stuff of movies. Dutch braids, glitter, bottles of Prosecco and wine made days of sightseeing and sunbathing hilarious story-filled memories. These three girls had been your confidants and party partners since you arrived at university two years ago. This mini-break was your final getaway before you all headed back for your final year, a last hurrah of the summer.
You’d gone shopping, sunbathing, done a wine tour and even hired a little sailboat for a day, something for each of you as well as the things for all of you. Today was your day, the day you got to pick something to do. You were all nerds in your own way and they’d just have to get on your level now.
It wasn’t all bad the girls decided, there was an element of getting ready, finding that perfect outfit. The girls could cope with outfit critiquing and celeb spotting as you wandered around fangirling at everything little thing you could. You loved cars, always had. You had a little banger you worked on when you were 16, not that you’d have been able to drive it even if you could fix it. The only thing was, you’d never managed to get tickets for a Grand Prix before, so when the opportunity arose for this holiday, you had to.
You were just wandering around various exhibits and chatting about the cars and what you were looking forward to – the girls didn’t really watch formula 1 or care about the cars but were gracious enough to listen along to your ramblings – when another girl, she looked to be in similar age to you, started joining in with some of your chat when you were looking at an exhibit.
“This is really random” she began, following on from your chit chat about engine providers, “but you wouldn’t happen to be at a lot of these would you?”
“Grand Prix? No this is my first, never managed to get tickets before.”
“No fair, it’s always fun to mix cars and girl talk. I don’t usually get that.”
“Oh no, how come?”
“I come with my boyfriends family, it’s alright when his mum or sister is here but sometimes it’s a little male if you get what I mean?”
“Oh no I’m with you 100%, I’m usually the same.”
Dilara and yourself exchanged numbers, with you suddenly realising why she travelled to a lot of Grand Prix with her boyfriends family. Given she was the girlfriend of one of the best drivers on the grid. You had promised to keep in touch and message if you were early to the track tomorrow.
Your friends always joked that you could make friends anywhere given half a chance but it appeared to be true this time. Dilara became a good friend very quickly, having found you had a very similar sense of humour and managed to keep in touch with her after the Grand Prix. Some of your messages to each other were hilarious, and it turned out that she loved a fair few of the go memes that had properly tickled you as well.
Noticing the random laughs at texts, Max had apparently gotten a little jealous and had asked who she’s been laughing at. After explaining your bizarre meeting and how you had been keeping in touch, Dilara started telling Max about you, the jokes and memes she’d passed on. Then an idea formed.
“Do you know who she reminds me of?”
“Yes and I’m already trying to plan so don’t do anything stupid.”
——
Only a few weeks later and you had some VIP paddock passes arriving in the post. You were informed, not asked or invited, that you were going to the next Grand Prix with Dilara and Max, ‘Lara apparently deciding she needed more female company and you needed more time with the cars.
“Oh wow look at this we’re bumping into drivers so randomly, hi Lando how are you?” You raised your eyebrows at her but introduced yourself to the McLaren driver.
Lando became someone very important very quickly. You were both total fangirls over motorsport, and total nerds in your ‘thing’. The fact you could sit and chat and never feel bad for getting too excited about a project, or his races, new setups they were trying, was refreshing. You loved the girls, you loved your time with Dilara, but the friendship with Lando was, in a way, different.
Whenever you quizzed Dilara on her weird introduction of Lando, she would merely shrug say that she was weird and that she knew how well you’d get on.
It wasn’t long before you found yourself spending more and more time at his house. You’d sit in the next room as he played on twitch, finalising papers and essays and cover letters for Masters programmes. Once you were ready you’d have him proofread them. It didn’t matter that he barely understood the topic of your essay, in fact, it made him better at proofreading, always highlighting the bits he thought didn’t make sense. You would usually wait until he finished on twitch, not that you had to wait long given the time you would spend working.
Tonight, however, Lando knew you didn’t have much to do, merely formatting. So  20 minutes into his twitch stream, he shouted for you, earning a ‘Jesus Christ’ from Max who had to deal with that through a microphone.. Sticking your head around the corner, Lando was asking if you were done and if he could read your paper yet.
“Yeah, I was just waiting till you finished streaming.”
“Nah I’m only racing Max, you take over and I can read.”
“Hey!” Max chimed in, indignantly.
You handed a print out of your paper to Lando and pulled on the headset. Comments came in on Lando's stream almost immediately asking who you were and if you were Lando's girlfriend. Unfortunately, your familiarity with Max only added to the dating comments and they couldn’t quite work out how else you could know both of them.
That twitch experience was the first of many. It became a fairly frequent occurrence, you taking over and driving for Lando as he read your work, you chatting to Max and generally bantering about. Once or twice Dilara was with Max and managed to steal the headset allowing the two of you to chat holidays and mini-break ideas, something that was never shown on media other than that. The fans were obsessed with your friendship, and also obsessed with the idea of you and Lando together.
You never brought up their speculation, you couldn’t without admitting how much you had come to care for Lando and how much his approval on the little things meant to you. Every time he let you on his twitch streams, your heart would flutter. Every time he would take you along to a Grand Prix, you had a little celebration, feeling like he might just care like you did.
But he never said anything, he never did anything other than what friends could do. You tried dropping hints, you made him dinner more often than not at one point, always brought him a cuppa when you had him proofread your work. Nothing. You were starting to think your friends were right when they said that boys were oblivious to everything. That or he was ignoring your little hints in the hope you’d give up. He was a formula one driver after all; he could have any girl he wanted, why would he settle for little old you, student, nerd,  nothing special. You weren’t a model or a driver or anyone really.
You very rarely spoke about boys with Dilara beyond the old “oh he’s cute” when you went shopping and the two of you “window shopped” boys. You’d try and pick out each other’s type. Though you always joked there was no one for you to pick for her, claiming “sorry no Dutch f1 drivers here” much to her dismay. She’s once asked about you and Lando, at which point you’d already given up on him and didn’t want her to feel bad for you, leaving you responding about how close your friendship was.
What you didn’t know, however, was that you weren’t the only one waiting for the two of you to make a move on the other.
“They aren’t making any moves, why aren’t they doing something??”
“Friends is great, but not what we were aiming for.”
That conversation was put on hold as Lando's call ID appeared on Max’s phone.
“I screwed up and I need a friend to tell me to get over myself.”
“What? What’s happened.”
“I may or may not have realised I fancy the actual pants off of Y/N”
“She’s great, I can see why you like her.” Dilara was leaning in to try and hear what was being said. “I’m not seeing why that means you screwed up?”
“She’s going on a date.”
“She’s what?”
“Going on a date, someone set her up on a blind date and she’s going. I didn’t realise how I felt about her till a date was mentioned and then I felt hard done on by the fact she’s going on it. Like why would she just be sitting around for me?”
Dilara was scribbling little notes out,
“Mate I’m so sorry. You can’t blame yourself though and it’s only one date, it’s not the end of the world.”
“I just never realised how much I took her being around for granted. I just got used to her being here, having dinner with her, her stealing my McLaren jumpers when we’re at a race because they’re the softest there and her cheering for me. Like, fuck me when did I get so stuck up and dumb.”
“Can’t comment on the dumb but girls will do that to you man.” Dilara elbowed him for that comment.
In an attempt to distract Lando from his little feelings meltdown on the phone, Max had suggested an impromptu twitch stream, knowing Lando would shut off a bit if he was driving and that he’d put on a bit of a show for people. However not even 20 minutes later Oliver had popped his head into the room to get his attention.
“What Oliver?”
“Door went”
“Did you get it?”
You knew something was wrong by the tone of his voice, Lando was upset and a little angry at being disturbed. Or so you thought. You didn’t want to be more of a pain, you had just turned up without an invitation.
“Maybe I should come back another time..” you squeaked out. Tears still drying on your face, voice cracking from the crying you’d done in the taxi on the way over.
You might have been quiet but Lando heard you. He practically launched himself out of his sim, repeatedly muttering “no”, his heartbreaking at the weakness in your voice.
Not much could be seen from the setup Lando had from his twitch stream but they could see him rush towards you, dressed in a red cowl necked dress. You looked stunning, more beautiful than Lando could process given the hurt he saw.
“I'm here, it’s okay, you’re okay” Lando was comforting you, the words barely audible through his mic, having shoved it off his head and round his neck.  He had no idea what had happened but given you were here and not on your date, tear marks clear on your face, he could tell it wasn’t good.
“Cmon let’s get you in some comfy stuff, can’t have you looking like a Ferrari fan now can we?” The small joke hit the mark, bringing a smile to your face.
“You’re right, got any Red Bull merch?”
“Wow, right in the heart.”
The twitch stream was long forgotten, Oliver apparently ruining Lando's score and pushing all of Max’s buttons. Lando had you in some sweatpants and somehow magicked up an extra-large McLaren jumper, knowing you love the extra snuggle of a huge jumper. His team might’ve looked at him weirdly when he asked for one but seeing you wrapped up in his team apparel made him realise he’d do anything to make you happy and comfortable. He couldn’t fathom how it had taken him this long to realise how he felt. No wonder people teased him for getting extra team kit so she could steal it.
Now he only had to figure out a way to tell you all this.
