Mid-century science fiction gave post war america a future to look forward too. The hope was that advancements in nucular energy and space travel would unite humanity. In retrospect, these ideas sound silly; there was no way space travel would ever improve the day to day lifes of civilians. However, this childlike outlook is what makes the genre so charming. As Sean Topham argues: The space age allowed adults to rediscover everyday miracles kinda like a child does [Topham, S. (2008). A question of living tommarrow. In Wheres my Space Age? (pp. 65–66). essay, Prestel.]

Not all science fiction was so optimistic however; many writers believed contemporary advancements in nuclear energy threatened international security. Zines like “astounding sci-fi” were inidated with post apocalyptic fiction and tales of technological uprisings.

Science fiction helped laymen navigate cold war politics in ways actual (political) scienests could not. Said “experts” had no real world reference to which they could compare the contempary nuclear-political landscape. Therefor, in David Seed’s opinion, science fiction writers had an equal amount of athourity. [Seed, D. (1999). Chapter 1. In American Science Fiction and the Cold War (pp. 5–5). essay, Fitzroy Dearborn.]

Ive been a retro futuristic fan since I was introduced to the twilight zone in elementary school. Some years later I discovered the “retro space” line of lego sets. Although these kits released between 1979-1998, the designers were heavily inspired by science fiction of old. The sets were characterized by funky looking aircraft, vauge tech, and a generally cooperative atmosphere. My own lego builds are inspired by the line but also retro futurism in general. As an aside: i love the lego system. Its my main art medium. Ive included some pics down below😋

Throught my project i consulted 3 books, 1 movie, 1 tv show, and 1 zine. The names are as follows:

Books:

“American Science fiction: 1926-1975”: former science fiction writer ______ records the history of retro futurism and what inspired the movement.

“Wheres my Space Age?” A history of the rise and fall of retro-futuristic design styles in the real world

“Science fiction Literature and Film during the Cold war”: ___ explains the historical context in which retro fururism emeraged.

Movies:

FORBIDDEN PLANET: This 1952 adventure film took inspiration from contemporary science fiction litiuture like “ASTOUNDING SCIENCE FICTION” and “GALAXY”. The film follows a group of stranded astronauts as they navigate a mysterious planet. Good movie.

Zines:

ASTOUNDING(/ANOLOG) SCIENCE FICTION AND FACT :Established in 1930, This monthly zine routinely published innovative Sci-Fi stories along side sensationalized scientific news. The publication was led by renowned writer John Campbell Jr. who, in 1950, began researching psi phenomena (scientific study of physic powers). Campbell’s work inspired fellow artist to write about contemporary psudeo science.

Shows:

THE TWILIGHT ZONE:The Twilight Zone, narrated by Rob Serling, was a revolutionary anthology series that used science fiction to tackled issues of race, religion, oppresion and more. My grandparents introduced me to this show, and by extension retro futurism. To this day the Twilight Zone remains my favorite telivision series. I highly recommend the episodes: “The Monsters are due on Maple Street” and “I Shot an Arrow into the Air”. (images included in next post->)

and it is supposed to be us no repreasents us and our son is going to marry lisa meneli his auntie who abusedhiim when he was young. and wont did not wont do a thing with her.and Hera did intercept tons know it no.

but it is distrubing. he is firing a weapon and saying he has to divorce and marry her to get money. and to leave his mutnt kind and to marry the baby and it means the concept. and she had a red dress on. and he got it and yeh king arthur. and ok. he started drinking. saw it all was horrified. and they were ok. but bad off and surrounded by psuedo empire. and that is who they are yes. and a general of mike t. and the anolgy theirs. and say it too. bind with it or cut off. and it is a theme in the movies. and to dierty up the psuedo empire. and he thuoght on it no. is the answer it always is..and our son left got it too. they are at us and he saw a bit.

and he is on the line said we wer eup there and the macs planned it and isolated attacked and we fell. rode tommy f and trump. it is harsh now for all. might not hold it. need to see them. coudn not aruthur got him code.and that is the anology. and worked. mike t and got it to him. and tons of it. and flowed. and worked and they were in trouble but saw them.

now we see it ok. and h e say every single bill turns on them a bit and it was bg and on the empire not the spudo and looked them and told and it worked and for some time too. and later on it is worse but we see it. worse. and then this forg his dea need it now.and jet li said it i do have the feeling but yeh see that as possibe and it nevr was. now they fight and are int i and bg got it going. after this.

our son opts for Ellie no for Hera and at times called sister in Christ and she says ye lives in a run down abpartment now but ok nyc no. and we see it. small and bigger same time. not bad amount. and more stuff. it has two br and two bath no but two rooms. ok lol. is a dump but high rent area. and he too is in it shorty but has more money. but it is an equivalent no. she carrie it. they see it. 3 5 0 and arthur laughs. and then again. and it means she supports him. and our Empress does. she is smiling and be good and will. that one room and ok. dinenr alone and we see need a tv in the kitchen and laughs good going i do that ok lol.

buy a big one finally and watch films with the hpone and good.

now we roll but thsi is important. the empire wants it badly to rub it in. we wiht money and so on. and he asks it.

if they pay them up fornt ss they will seek them. and i wont have much but they will be in jeapordy. and we see it coming. says i think first and we agree. and it is bad news too. and these see it too. o urs out too and by proximity and we wont be out but yeh theyssek us and use your notes.andthey are flustered. and the ss payout due to being qualified. and they see it yes. and then this it is overdue. true. but they do it later. they want psuedo empire in the ss office to actually trace. we see it now yes. got their mo and more

I don't get the anology with Anita and Marianne. They never spoke for the band. And also to compare them to Louise and Mandy is awful. They had their own careers. Anita was an actress and a model and Marianne was a singer and actress. Sadly the gotov caught up in drugs. // I wasn’t serious when I compared them. I meant that these two see, or want to see, themselves as Anita and Marianne. Marianne had a career but Anita, not really. She did a movie with Mick Jagger called Performance and she said she was offered many roles after that but didn’t want an acting career. Ironically Richards wrote and recorded Gimme Shelter while Anita and Mick were filming the movie and he thought they were having an affair. They say there was nothing though lol. And Anita was more than just a girlfriend, Richards respected her opinions about his songs and they also did things that wannbe rockstar girlfriends do, like they swapped clothes back then. Anita was also obsessed with black magic lmao. It’s also said Keith was the most shy out of them, the least known and never got interviewed but after meeting Anita he was encouraged and started wearing makeup and all. Unfortunately Anita couldn’t give up drugs and alcohol like him and when she did it was too late. She played Russian roulette with a teenage boy in her hotel room and he killed himself. She later said she felt nothing and that’s how strong the influence of drugs were on her. Some rock n roll history for today lol

I did talk about Mario (both films IN FACT), I just steered things BACK on topic for my blog.

Sometimes I wonder if you read my posts in all sincerity, or you just want to talk about something that ISN'T EVER about Guilty Gear.
