I was formally diagnosed autistic today (yep, that's a thing now) and I'm obsessed with how friends CONGRATULATED me 😂
[Note: I cried for like two hours after finding out and then had to go to work. I still don't know how I feel about it. Diagnosis' are scary aren't they. Oh well, we move.]

Anna + her lack of angelic identity integration
Just because angels SAY they have no emotions doesn't MEAN they have no emotions
The thing with Anna is she chased sensation and never fully reckoned with her actual feelings, angel trauma, and intrinsic nature. She never integrated herself. To her, the "angelic nature" was incompatible with emotions and "human beauty."
Anna is a classic example of the post-modern lack of integration. In "broadening" her horizons and accepting new experiences, she actually shrunk her framework of self because she could not expand the meaning of angel.
"I'm more than just an angel," she thinks, when faced with those things inside herself that don't fit the prescribed company line for angelic soldiers.
///
So, Anna falls and insists she's no longer an angel.
Interestingly, even when other angels expression emotions, like, "I'm sorry," she immediately jumps to dismiss them, "No, you're not. Not really. You don't know the feeling."
And yet, if Anna felt nothing? She'd never have had reason to fall in the first place. Her motivation in falling was to feel the things she was not "allowed to feel."
Ultimately, she still fell for the company line.
///
Anna never figures that no one definition solely defines her. She will always have characteristics that break the mold.
Categories are reductive because that’s what categories are. They just doesn’t diminish who you are, because categorizations can never be sole. They don’t actually make you smaller, even when you apply them to a part of your self.
It's not required to change what you are just to be who you are, or just to incorporate those things you feel don’t fit. (However, change can be something that helps you move through the world more comfortably.) Which is why Anna "pulled a few strings" to be in the body she felt most connected to, even as an angel.
“I'm more than just an angel. I’m human.” -> this is a rigid viewpoint, not allowing for the so-called "human things" to apply to angels
I suspect Anna's next phase would have been integration of her past, recent human past, and present. Alas, she never got the chance.

I just had a truly horrible realization. I was talking about the worldbuilding in fma with someone the other day, and they mistakenly said it took place during the Victorian era, or Amestris’s equivilant to it.
I, being a lover of fashion history as well as an insufferable pedant, corrected them by saying that both the year(s) it takes place in as well as many of the technological and cultural influences seen in the world are actually more in line with the subsequent, much shorter era known as the…
the Edwardian era.
God fucking dammit.

I feel so fucking fat all the time. I weight like 60kg but all of that is going to change. I already worked out today, and plan on at least three times a week until summer. I’ll update you on my progress.

so, watched ep 1 of the atla live action and uhm, imagine not wanting one of your main characters to depict sexism because you believe it doesn’t read well in Current Times, so instead you double down on the character’s obsession towards leadership in order to give him that extra edge. but in order to make that work u have to make his sister quietly obedient instead of an outspoken leading presence that has the potential to overshadow him. because silencing a female character in order to write out a male character’s story arc of unlearning sexism is obviously a better and less sexist outcome.

The whole idea of Hawkeye, Mustang, Ed, and Al being a kind of pseudo-family unit will never not be both hilarious and adorable. Ah yes, Mr. and Mrs. War Crimes and their not-children, the unstoppable force and the immovable object.
