📚 #FirekeepersDaughter 👀 This book is on fire!🎶 I learned so many things from the most surface level thing (Reese Witherspoon has a YA book club) to so many educational things about the Ojibwe people. I honestly think this is the best book I have read all year. I also met @angelineboulley during #yallfest when I was volunteering and her story is amazing! I could listen to her talk and interact with people for hours! If you are looking for a good #yamystery that is educational, with amazing characters then this is the book for you! I have so much to say and not enough characters to write it all out. I'll leave you with this. This is one of the most powerful and thought provoking books I've read in a while. Check it out and let's talk about it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🗣️ "Wisdom is not bestowed. In its raw state, it is the heartbreak of knowing things you wish you didn't." #yabooks #bookstagram #books #booklover #bookworm #bookstagrammer #yabookstagram #bookish #booknerd #bibliophile #yalit #reading #booksofinstagram #bookaddict #youngadultbooks #bookphotography #booksbooksbooks #readersofinstagram #ya #bookcommunity #fantasybooks #yareads #ireadya #yafiction #bookreview #bookaholic #youngadult https://www.instagram.com/p/ClsLCAxLIe6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🔥 BUDDY READ ANNOUNCEMENT! 🔥 I cannot believe it's almost March already! But as it is, that means it's time to announce the next month's read for #getthrilledbuddyreads -- THE FIREKEEPER'S DAUGHTER by @angelineboulley! @torrie_reads and I are really excited for this one - and as she said in her post, hopefully there are still some of you who are behind, like us, and haven't read it yet so want to join us 😂 Or if you have read it, feel free to come discuss it with us! This one is a YA mystery/thriller with an Ojibwe main character who goes undercover to confront some pretty dark issues in her community, in order to save it. I can't wait to finally meet Daunis! I've tried so hard to avoid spoilers and am really looking forward to discovering with y'all the magic of this book that I've heard so much about. If you would like to join us, just comment below and we'll add you to the chat when we set it up. We can't wait to get thrilled with y'all! 🔥🔥🔥 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammers #booknerd #getthrilled #thrillers #thrillerbooks #thrillingreads #amreading #angelineboulley #angelineboulleybooks #thefirekeepersdaughter #bookworm #readersofinstagram #readersofig #reading #reader #readers #booksbooksbooks #bibliophile #bookrecommendations #buddyreads #buddyread #septemberbuddyread #bookclub #readwithus https://www.instagram.com/p/CaLDhL5PDpo/?utm_medium=tumblr

Q: What's the last book that lived up to the hype for you?. Welcome back to another summer of #BooksandFlowers! 🌸🌼 I wish I started sooner because a lot of the lilies in my yard are already past their prime, RIP me returning to work in the office and having a lot less bookstagram time. Anyways. I've seen Firekeeper's Daughter around for a few months now and many friends have said how much they enjoyed it, so I finally decided to give this a try – and I’m so glad I did. There was a lot of hype around this book and I’m pleased to say, it exceeds that hype. This book is everything I never knew I wanted. A mystery/thriller with Native American characters with contemporary Native American culture and language (Anishinaabemowin) prevalent throughout the book. This book is set in 2004, so while its not present, it’s still contemporary. This is considered “young adult” but I’d consider this on the higher end of YA, or even “new adult” – the characters are seniors in high school or in college – but this is a story everyone should read and can benefit from. The author herself is Native American and I truly cannot think of another young adult contemporary novel about Native Americans by a Native American. I loved the exploration of modern Native experience and culture throughout this book, including the spoken language of Anishinaabemowin. I listened to this as an audiobook and I loved hearing Anishinaabemowin spoken. Some books feel forced with another language sprinkled in with English – this never once felt forced and only made the novel feel more cohesive and genuine. This is going to be one of my favorite books of 2021, I’m calling it now. Mid-Year Round Up!
It's time for my Mid-Year Round Up! 66 books! x
I cannot believe we’ve blown through the first half of 2021 already! So far this year I have managed to read a smashing 66 books! I’m so pleased with how well I’ve done. My Goodreads goal is always 50 books, which allows me a book a week, with two weeks to allow for bad health. Any time I manage to beat that goal, I have a secondary (non-Goodreads tracked) goal of 75, so that is my next goal.…

★ What 2021 releases have some of your favorite covers? There are some truly stunning 2021 covers this year, but one of my favorites is the gorgeous the cover of Firekeeper’s Daughter by @angelineboulley! This has been one of my most anticipated reads of the year and I’m looking forward to diving into it soon! Synopsis:  Eighteen-year-old Daunis Fontaine has never quite fit in, both in her hometown and on the nearby Ojibwe reservation. She dreams of a fresh start at college, but when family tragedy strikes, Daunis puts her future on hold to look after her fragile mother. The only bright spot is meeting Jamie, the charming new recruit on her brother Levi’s hockey team.    Yet even as Daunis falls for Jamie, she senses the dashing hockey star is hiding something. Everything comes to light when Daunis witnesses a shocking murder, thrusting her into an FBI investigation of a lethal new drug.     Reluctantly, Daunis agrees to go undercover, drawing on her knowledge of chemistry and Ojibwe traditional medicine to track down the source. But the search for truth is more complicated than Daunis imagined, exposing secrets and old scars. At the same time, she grows concerned with an investigation that seems more focused on punishing the offenders than protecting the victims.    Now, as the deceptions—and deaths—keep growing, Daunis must learn what it means to be a strong Anishinaabe kwe (Ojibwe woman) and how far she’ll go for her community, even if it tears apart the only world she’s ever known. Thank you to @henryholtbooks for sending this finished copy my way! ★ CURRENTLY //    📖 The Crown of Gilded Bones by Jennifer L. Armentrout (eARC)   ★ CHALLENGES //    #tumblesoverbooks / everyone should read #thebookishdreamers / #anticipatedreads ★ HASHTAGS //    #booksbooksbooks #bookworm #bookstagram #bookphotography #bibliophile #booklover #bookaddict #bookobsessed #bookish #beautifulbooks #prettybooks #bookdragon #bookaholic #bookstagrammer #bookstack #bookaddict #bookaesthetic #fantasybooks #yabooks #diversereads #diversifyyourshelves #tbrcart #bookstack #bookshelf #shelfie #bookcart #firekeepersdaughter #angelineboulley #fiercereads https://www.instagram.com/p/CNvreejrbqM/?igshid=jlx5bgpm0bg1

As life may or may not return to somewhat what it looked like before 2020 do you have concerns or thoughts? I’m curious to see what it really turns out to be. My life has changed a little bit with everything that happened but I was still pretty much a homebody. I think the biggest change to my life was no more book events and no more spontaneous trips with @stfusara. But Sara moved always so those trips won’t be starting back up. I am curious to see how book events may look in the future. Continuing to nurture my need for #indigenousstories I hit the play button on #firekeepersdaughter by @angelineboulley and was immediately lost in the story. As each layer of the mystery was revealed, it’s hooks on me dug in and I couldn’t stop listening. It brought back memories of getting my enrollment card and feeling special, but also the memories of rejection because though I was enrolled, I didn’t live on the Rez, so was treated differently. It also made me wonder yet again of the horrors my Grandmother must have endured at the boarding school she attended. She would never speak of it. I’ve been processing these things, as this is part my draw to #nativestories This book was very good though I wish there had been a little bit more on the plight of Native Women and the legal system, but other than that, this is definitely a #mustread #bookstagram #angelineboulley #readersofinstagram #bookgeek #readmorebooks #booknerd #reading #bookworm #bookish #bibliophile #read #bookaddict #audiobooks #bookaholic #yabooks #bibliotherapy #books #indigenousauthors https://www.instagram.com/p/CPtCRrfLJ5f/?utm_medium=tumblr

The thing about Firekeeper's Daughter is that the thing that bothered me about the book is what made it special too.I kept going back to it. #FirekeepersDaughter #AngelineBoulley #bookreview #books #readwatchandthink #bookreview
About the Book- Firekeeper’s Daughter As a biracial, unenrolled tribal member and the product of a scandal, eighteen-year-old Daunis Fontaine has never quite fit in, both in her hometown and on the nearby Ojibwe reservation.
