Gender Weirdness in (my) Faerun

in my stories queer folk are common, and accepted to the point of being unremarkable. there are a myriad of ways that you alter your physical characteristics, organs, and presentation.

Magical:

the easiest answer here would be the 3rd level spell Tenser's Shifting Gender (or something). this would be the bog standard change your gender spell. looking beyond that, and far more accessible is the Mold Flesh cantrip. able to be cast by middling spellcasters and hedge witches, this is far more common in villages and other minor settlements. the minor nature of a cantrip requires the caster to cast it repeatedly through touch. skilled fleshcrafters must be artists with kean eyes and high stamina.

Divine:

Clerics of Morphitas the god of change can channel divinity to shift their own bodies to their true self. this works on a minor level for people around the cleric as well.

Alchemical:

Many common magical herbs can produce a wort that has feminizing masculinizing or androgyninizing effects depending on the herb. for example a decoction of black toadstool and goblinsbreath will masculinize the imbiber(?) if taken on the full moon over a year. a poultice of celestial lilac and nettelmoss can remove body hair/facial hair permanantly.

compounds to alter the body can be synthesized from monster parts as well. take the humble troll. its regenerative property can be distilled into a potion that can induce tissue growth or a salve to induce hair growth.

From this point things are going to get less than wholesome

Fiendish:

Cultists of Slaan'ish sacrifice their gender for power. the cultists describe it as "quite nice actually". Warlocks of Slaan'isk gain power through transformation, becoming unrecognizable and inhuman as they gain power. Powerful warlocks of Slaan'isk can cast a ritual sacrificing others genders to cast Summon Fiend. the more genders you sacrifice the higher the level of the summon. a plot in water deep led to hundreds of people losing their genders and the summoning of a gehreloth. *hijinx* ensued and a party of adventurers defeated the fiend and developed a cure to restore peoples lost gender.

Curses:

The cursed weapons of Nariel whispers in its users ear. slowly encouraging the user to get attached to the spear, and then twisting the users preferred presentation. the cursed will not accept that they are normal and have always been this way. Remove Curse removes this effect.

Gender Lycanthropy:

among the myriad presentations of the Lycanthropy virus there are those that change the users gender. sexy horny genderbent werewolves? yea we got em.

Explaining ideogenders

Ideo- in ideobinary represents “those who relate to having an experience that does rely on [X] or [X]-related concepts, while not relating to an experience that is similar to that of a [X] gender”. Gender qualifiers, usually ending in -ine, mean “having qualities or an appearance associated with [X]”.

Ideogender identifiers therefore reference or allude viagenders, without necessarily being viaspec. The first and most known modifiers are FMN (fingender, mingender, ningender), coined by @pastelroswell (FM orientations coined by @pleurocarpous/deactivated). (Mid)bingender encompass (mid)binary natures.

Ideo- and via- mainly focus on the difference between masculine/feminine vs male/female genders. But there’s niaspec/niagender, what could distinguish it from ninspec? Would it be like epin/epia (epicene)? Viagenders aren’t essentially tied to midbinary archetypes. Fiaspec/miaspec were coined before maingender and feingender, are they the same? Fia/mia at least use inclusion of wif-/wer-genders.

Neutrois isn’t always a neutral gender, not all neutraline genders are neutrois, and not all xenines are xenoic. Neutrine/neutrinity (neutralinity/neutrous) and androgynine/gynandrine/angine/anginity (gynandrinity/androgininity/androgynity) can be gender qualities, going with outherine, aporine/aporous, agenine and xenine/xenous.

Sometimes, they interchangeably overlap each other. So this post is up for discussions.

What is both heartbreaking and immensely annoying about wanting to explore the divine feminine of spirituality, is the fact that at the end of the day, TERFS and Gender Critical people have hijacked so much of the research and celebration of it. The divine feminine can absolutely celebrate womanhood, but women are more than their sexaul organs and abilities to birth more people. The divine feminine should be a way to connect with all genders, the balancing of of roles and relationships. The celebrations of bodies as they were made, and as they were changed to become who you truly are. Fat bodies and tall bodies and short bodies and bodies in recovery and bodies with breasts and penises and and scars and vulvas and beards and hair and melanin and freckles.

Supposedly the Venus of Willendorf was carved in the image of the carver, who had no mirrors so she looked at herself, referencing every sag and mound and lump of flesh. She carved it not as a woman bit as a person wishing to get to know herself. The divine feminine is about knowing who you are, truly are. The changes we make to become perfection whether it's cutting our hair or growing it out, hormones to make the shell match the soul because my goodness we are all carving our own version of ourselves.

At the end of the day maybe our explorations of the divine, whether feminine, masculine, or androgynin did not create people in their image but the goal being for us to create it in ours.
