Everyone's got a right to their own experience with characters.
Like, it's more than an opinion. People experience things when they're faced with characters that act a certain way. Characters are often exaggerated in order to help the story along, and stories are meant to affect people, so good characters affect people. Some of the effects are intentional, some of them aren't, and it's 100% okay that people have a different experience than you.
Like, when I was watching Encanto, I was so excited for Abuela to come talk to Mirabel. To me, that was a step towards healing. Abuela knew where Mirabel had gone and had actually gone to talk to her. Not only that, Abuela was being real and ate her own words of her own volition. That was amazing for me, who doesn't see that happen a whole lot and wishes to high heaven that it would happen more often, and I was thrilled. However, my siblings, who've had older people come to talk to them when they just wanna be left alone, immediately wanted Abuela to fall into a ditch. They wanted Mirabel to get angry and stand up for herself and defend her worth and her actions.
Neither of these interpretations are the wrong way to interact with Abuela because our difference didn't mean that we instantly hated each other. Instead, it was kinda fascinating to see where they were coming from because I'd never seen someone actively coming up to you and being straight up as a bad thing, and I hope they thought my POV was at least a little interesting. We didn't belittle each other or call each other names or accuse one another of being xyz because we interacted with a set of characteristics differently from one another.
Characters are characters. Good characters—not "moral" or "righteous" or "best," but "good"—make the audience feel things.
In Fruits Basket, Shigure makes me so infuriated because I met him when I was wrestling with this gray morality thing. I know several people who love him and his conniving little ways. The two reactions can—and, tbh, probably should—coexist in this world.
In Steven Universe, when Pearl and Amethyst fight, their division makes me hurt because I've been drawn to care about both characters. There were lots of people who took Pearl's side. There were lots of people who took Amethyst's. Both could be justifiable, and a lot of people got so invested. Pearl and Amethyst made the audience feel things, and that's kinda the point.
In Modao Zushi, Jiang Cheng is an incredibly divisive character (for good reason!), but he's a good character. Some people hate him and can back that up with the text and their own experiences. Some people love him and can back that up with the text and their own experiences. It's great! It kinda sucks to see an excess of an opposite opinion, but, like, they're allowed to have that. My experience doesn't make yours invalid, and your experience doesn't make mine invalid. They're just... different.
You're allowed to look at the same text, the same character, the same story, and feel different things from another person based on that text, character, and story. It's honestly part of the fun. And if you can't interact with people who hold that different opinion (for literally any reason ranging from "this is my chill spot and I'm not about to argue with somebody over something that doesn't matter" to "the opinion I hold is tied very closely to core aspects of my personality [trauma, strongly held beliefs, etc] and seeing its opposite physically and mentally unsettles me" to "stars. not today."), then that's fine. Block the tags. Ignore. Let it goooooo (had to).
They're characters. We love them, we hate them, they make us feel things, and we sometimes do some self-reflection using them as a guide (I find that this is where a lot of anger comes from? Maybe that's just me.). But we don't have to sit there and accuse someone else that they're xyz for hating/loving/not appreciating a character.
These are stories. These are characters. They may touch on our heartstrings and make our experiences and traumas feel validated, but they do the same thing in different ways for other people. And that's okay.
We can use that to learn about other people instead of immediately condemning them. If you don't want to engage with the other interpretations/experiences, then cool. If you wanna hate a character in peace, just make sure you've got the 'anti-' tag ready to go so people don't walk into your shop ready for something they ain't gonna get.
Just... yeah. Characters, experiences, and fandoms. We don't gotta be at each other's throats all the time.

Blackeclipse for the soul
The real reason there had to be two moons over break AO3 link if you prefer to read there Part 22; Part 23; Part 24; Part 25; Part 26
For breakfast, they asked the elves for another picnic and took it, along with Remus' new cushions, to the Shack. By 9 o'clock, the 3 of them were snuggled up and munching on an assortment of fruit.
They had to stay inside the Shack this Full, even with most of the student body absent. There was too much of a risk that someone would be wandering the grounds. So, they wrestled and played downstairs.
By the time the Full set, they were covered in dust and dirt. They brushed off and sent cleaning charms at each other before sitting down for a late lunch.
The cushions were stored in a chest to keep them clean, and the empty basket was shrunk to fit in James' pocket. They made their way back to the castle, where Poppy was waiting for them in the Entrance Hall.
She gave Remus a once-over, before nodding and sending them on their way. So, they returned to Gryffindor Tower, took turns showering, and lounged on the bed to wait for the feast to start.
~~~
Remus was taking his time packing up, waiting for everyone to leave so that Regulus could take the cloak off. Unfortunately, he wasn't the only one waiting around.
Snape was lingering off to one side of the room. Remus, not wanting to deal with him today, made to leave; they could find some other empty classroom.
Naturally, as Remus neared the door, Snape cut him off. The room was empty now; the door swinging closed on its own.
Remus could feel Regulus' hand tighten around his wrist, but he just shook his head. "I don't want to deal with this today, Snape."
Sneering, the greasy git cut right to the chase, "I know what you are."
"What I am?" Remus laughed, not even hesitating. "And what am I, exactly?" The best way to deal with Snape was avoidance, he was almost certain the boy was trying to make him give something away.
"You're a werewolf." Snape managed to look both disgusted and gleeful. "Don't even try to deny it, I've been watching you."
Regulus' invisible hand disappeared from his wrist as Remus smiled pityingly at the other boy. "You've been 'watching me'? And you think I'm a werewolf?" Remus brought his voice down at the end, making his disbelief—and slight concern for the boy's sanity—clear.
"I know you are! You used to disappear every Full Moon, but now you just get tired which is a side effect of the Soulbond. You weren't at the castle during break, but you also weren't on the train. Those days also happened to be Full Moons. Not to mention your scars are indicative of a werewolf's tendency for self-mutation when locked up for transformations. The only thing I can't figure out is why you aren't mutilating yourself anymore. Even with the Soulbond, you would still need to spend time in the Hospital Wing and acquire new scars."
Remus blinked at him. Sticking with his avoidance tactic, he kept his voice soft and pitying, "You really are obsessed with me, aren't you? I can't imagine why. I always thought you were after James because of his pursuit of Lily." Remus paused, exaggerated his revelation, then, "Though, I suppose if it was James you were after all along, it would be natural to come after me because of our bond."
Snape was sputtering now, face turning red.
"Have you confronted Regulus as well? Is he a vampire? Or maybe a Siren? He is beautiful enough."
"This is not about Potter," Snape snarled. "This is about you being a disgusting monster."
He couldn't hide the flinch at that. He was a monster, and even if he could walk away from this without confessing, Snape could still tell people.
How many people would believe him?
Even with James and Regulus helping with the symptoms, he was still absent while the moon was up. Deciding this conversation needed to end, Remus sighed.
"What is it you want Snape? Are you going to run to Dumbledore? Tell the whole school I'm 'a big bad monster'?" He made sure to keep his tone mocking and discrediting.
Snape paused; Remus was getting to him. There was uncertainty in his posture now, even if his face was still set.
Remus took it and ran. "Look, I'm flattered by the attention, really, but why do you think they'd let a werewolf into a school full of children? I'm sure the board of governors and the Wizengamot would have something to say about that."
The spark of righteousness in Snape's eyes faltered.
"I suppose I can't stop you from telling the whole school, but I doubt anyone would believe you. Seeing me during the next Full Moon is all it would take for people to know you're lying."
A plan was already forming in Remus' mind; so, when Snape started to sputter again, he gave the git one last pitying look and stepped around him, knocking into Regulus.
He must have positioned himself in between them just in case. Remus smiled and rolled his eyes to himself as he went to the door, feeling Regulus' hand close around his wrist once more.
Down the hall, Remus glanced around and pulled Regulus into a broom closet.
It was occupied.
By James.
He was tucking the map away as Regulus shed the cloak. Remus threw locking and silencing spells at the door, sighing as James pulled him into his arms.
"What happened?"
Regulus' answering growl came as he too wrapped himself around Remus from behind, "Snape knows."
James stiffened and Remus was quick to add, "I don't think he'll tell, but we are going to need some polyjuice."
He could feel both boys' confusion and quickly went on, shifting around so he could see Regulus as well, "In that book you gave me for Christmas, it says they did a study with polyjuice. The person who changes into the werewolf isn't affected by the moon at all. I assume that, should anyone really look at that study, it will become illegal for anyone to turn into werewolves trying to hide their status. Not that there are a whole lot of people who would be willing to do that to help people like me but..."
James had already caught on. "Sirius."
Regulus seemed about to ask, but understanding lit his face as well. He shifted gears, "We don't have time to brew it."
"We don't need to; Slughorn has some in his office." James' pranking brain was whirling; eyes unfocused and hands twitching against their backs like they were working with something only he could see.
Once he started muttering to himself, Remus laid his head on Regulus' shoulder. "This might take him a minute."
He could feel Regulus' chest moving with a silent chuckle. He brought a hand up to brush Remus' hair behind his ear, dropping a kiss to the top of his head before resting his chin there, "How are you feeling, Moonbeam?"
Remus hummed, considering. "Exhausted, but more from the conversation than the Full, I think."
Remus felt Regulus' hum more than he heard it. As dysphoric as his height made him, Remus loved when Regulus held him like this.
Still, he turned his head into Regulus' shoulder, grousing, "It's not fair that you get to be so tall."
Regulus huffed, "Well it it's not fair that you hardly ever bleed; so, I think we're even."
An annoyed, disgruntled sort of sound came from Remus as he nuzzled further into Regulus' shoulder.
It was then that James snapped back into himself. He tightened his hold on both boys and grinned. "Lunch?"
Remus and Regulus rolled their eyes, allowing James to herd them out of the closet and towards the Great Hall.
~~~
Operation Discredit Snivillus
Regulus stays during the week randomly
Steal Aquire polyjuice from Slughorn
Warn Dumbledore of Snape and ODS
Tell Kinzie (and Siri)
Diversion Prank (Peter and Benji)
Check Thursday class schedule
Alibi for me and Reg (polyjuice girls?)
Monitor the rumor mill
Confer with Poppy
~~~
"Check Thursday class schedule?"
"Polyjuice girls?"
Remus only intervened on stealing the polyjuice, otherwise, he had left James to his list. Now that he had pushed it over for Remus and Regulus to inspect, they knew he was ready to explain.
By way of answering Regulus' question, he only said, "Next one's on a Wednesday."
Remus and Regulus nodded in understanding before Remus asked again, "You really want to bring the girls into this?"
James smiled deviously, "No. We bring the girls in for the Diversion Prank."
Regulus looked around Remus to James, "And what is this Diversion Prank?"
Impossibly, his smile got more devious. "Up to Peter."
Remus groaned and dropped his head on the table.
Regulus winced at the loud 'thunk' and cast a weary look at James. "I'm missing something."
Sirius, who had been engrossed in his conversation with Kingsley, turned to his brother, "Peter comes up with the...strangest pranks."
Regulus arched a brow at his brother, the marauders had done quite a few strange pranks over the years.
Sirius rolled his eyes, "Like, remember when the quidditch pitch was wrapped with ribbons and bows? Or when there were all those bouncy balls on the stairs?"
James jumped in, "Or when all of the desks in the potions hall were stuck upside down and the chairs were stuck to the ceiling?"
Remus picked his head up and turned to Regulus, "It's not that his ideas are the strangest; it's that they're always the most involved."
"Ah."
Peter sat down beside Sirius with Benji, "Whose ideas are the most involved?"
Remus gave him a look and Peter smiled down bashfully and started to load his plate.
I'm gonna be a villain rn cause I have to say this. I've been thinking about this for a long time now and questioned my opinion for a while but I still can't change my mind.
I do love Fruits Basket. It's a great plot, amazing characters, nice music. But the one thing that doesn't sit right with me is the moral of the story.
Basically, it's about this supernatural family that is struggling with generational trauma and is therefore strongly trauma bonded in a quite literal sense, which isolates them from others and keeps them with each other despite knowing how toxic it is.
Then there's this girl, who is the nicest, kindest, warmest, most compassionate person on this planet. And she gives the family members hope, which is obviously incredibly important. When you're stuck in an abusive environment, even just having one good person around can change a lot for you.
That's the moral, isn't it? And that's great because it's so true.
However, there's more to it. What is said in the show is that there is no way out of this trauma bond. They'll always be connected and it's impossible to break the curse. Why tho?
Because it's a romcom with drama and supernatural elements and we have to keep it simple? Personally, I don't like that.
It's indeed incredibly difficult to break out of a toxic relationship, of any kind. But it's possible to leave, even if horribly difficult. Rin and Yuki tried to run away and still couldn't escape. Only Rin really tried to find a way to break the curse (One more reason to love her).
The story ends with the bonds between them randomly dissipating for no reason. Time itself broke the curse. Because time heals all wounds. Also a good moral, maybe? but still not satisfactory for me. Are you really telling me that all these previous generations had to live their entire lives being abused and manipulated, especially the cat, and that's just the way it had to be? There was nothing they could've done?? That's absolutely awful.
In other words, the main characters were just lucky. They didn't do anything important, they didn't accomplish anything. They didn't put the work in to change something (,except Rin, who failed). They completely passively let the connection fizzle out. If it hadn't been time for it to happen, they would've lived their entire lives with this shit. It was a mere coincidence.
In my humble opinion, what would've been better is if they all realised and admitted to themselves that they really do not need each other, that they shouldn't and don't have to endure all this and that they can leave it behind them. That they deserve better. Family isn't necessarily the people you grew up with or wanted to stay with at some point. And as soon as they really believe this, the bond breaks automatically. This way they could've actively broken the curse.
What I also don't understand is why after all of this they stayed with Akito. Rin said it too. Again, she's an icon. After everything Akito put them through, I don't get why they all still associated with them. I know Akito was also a victim and they became the villain because they were raised to have a personality disorder and abandonment issues. So yes, they were also manipulated and traumatised. And, so what? They were horrible to especially the younger zodiacs and I wouldn't have forgiven them so easily. After everything I've seen them do to the others I felt like they deserved abandonment. (Wow I'm a bad person oupsie)
Anyway. In summary, I think the story would've had a more conclusive ending if there had been an active way to break the curse and Akito just went fuck themselves.
Maybe I shouldn't take it too seriously with all its implications of generational trauma. Because it really is just implications. It's still just a fictional story about the zodiac animals. But it's something I didn't love about the show. Other than that tho, I have to repeat, I really enjoyed it!
You are currently doing your chores in the town, giving out fresh fruits to the people while smiling at them. As the day went by, you finally finished your chores and was left with one apple. You picked it up from the basket and before you could take a bite, someone grabe your apple which made you looked up to the person.
'Oh great the shapeshifter madrigal'
Not that you hate him, well okay a bit. But only because there is literally no day that he would tease you about your height. When you asked him to stop or tell his reason why he is always bothering you, he would just shrug and pretend not to hear you.
"I'm tired, Camilo. Just give me the apple" You said and stood up from the bench you were sitting just to properly face him. Well, while raising a bit for you to meet his eye level.
"Awhh, why did mi amor didn't asked for my help then?" He said while leaning unto you and lowering his level to match yours a bit.
"First, I ain't your mi amor. Second, you'll just annoy me with my chores. And third, give me back my damn apple" You said while glaring at him but he just smirked at you and decided to make this move that annoyed you. This isn't what you planned to deal with after a long day, but here is Camilo Madrigal to make things worse.
"I think in advance to call you mi amor, bonita. And with this apple of yours, too bad it is in my hands so good luck getting it" After that he ran away. Which you wouldn't let that happen.
You chased him and trying not to lose him because he keeps shapeshifting himself within the crowd.
Dolores sighs as she probably heard your shouts from afar trying to chase his brother again.
"She's after him again, I don't even know why Cami's keep on doing that" She said while watching you two run in the town. Good thing Abuela isn't around or you two are in trouble again for being such loud kids right now.
"Tío Felix wouldn't be proud of his technique that he uses for his longtime crush" Mirabel said emphasizing the last words which caused Dolores to chuckle and agree.
Back to you two, you continue to chase him even though you are tired but you really need a food right now.
You were about to take a step when you didn't saw a small rock which causes you to trip over it. You expect to fall on the ground but as you were closing your eyes for the impact you seemed to not take damage at all.
"Ouch, okay that hurts..." Someone said and when you opened your eyes it was Camilo!! He practically saved you from falling flat face on the ground which causes you to land on him. You were blushing real hard from the thought that he just saved you.
He continues to rub his head and finally opened his eyes and noticed you were staring at him. He looked at the position both of you were in, and noticed you fall on top of him which caused him to blush and somewhat lose his cool for a bit.
You hurriedly stand up and remove the dust on your dress, practically trying not to have an eye contact with Camilo. You never had a close proximity before, you tried to shook your thoughts about how you got lost in his eyes for a minute you look up at him earlier.
Camilo stands up and fixed his ruana, while noticing a scratch in his elbow. Probably got it when he hit the ground and used his elbows for support. You noticed how he checked his elbows and hands and noticed how he had a scratch from the fall you two had. You immediately got worried for him and walked closer.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry. Does it hurt so bad??" You said panicking a bit and you touched the scratch which he somewhat flinched. He just stared at you while you keep ranting and worrying about his small scratch from his albows.
"Bonita, relax its just a small scratch. I am still fine okay? I'll just get one of Tía Julieta's arepas and this will be gone." He said calming you down, noticing and admiring the worried look you had.
"Oh yeah right..your Tía could just heal that" You said feeling awkward and shy right now. Which Camilo finds it cute, he usually sees you being annoyed whenever he comes closer and this side of yours was just adorable for him to witness.
He held out your hand and placed your apple while chuckling. "There you go mi vida, its now yours" He said with a teasing tone in his voice which you probably would just scoff at him but not in this case.
"Well thanks and for catching me earlier" You said looking up at him, noticing that he was staring at you for awhile, which made you flustered.
"Anytime mi chaparro, I would always catch you when you fall anyways" He said while winking at you. You were about to say something but he suddenly lean in to you with a smirk on his face which made you secretly gulp with the interaction.
"I think I gotta go now, bonita. I need to heal the scratch I got from saving you" He said and quickly kissed your cheeks and walks away.
You put your hand in your cheeks were he kissed you, but you saw him suddenly turned to you and said "Oh and btw, you look adorable earlier, see u tomorrow, mi amor" He said while smirking and continued walking away.
You just stood there watching him lose into your sight and noticing a smile on your lips.
Tumblr media
"Oh Dios mío, Camilo where have you been??" Pepa said as soon as she saw his son entering the house.
"Just in the village mamí, why?" He said and went to the kitchen to get arepas. Pepa noticed the scratch from his elbow which caused her to have a cloud.
"What were you doing? Why do you have a scratch??"
"Oh I just tripped while walking, yeah that happened" Camilo said while taking a bite of his Tía's arepas, and in just a second the scratch was gone.
"Be careful next time okay?" Pepa said while Felix calms her down and the cloud disappeared.
"Atleast after that he got to kiss his crush, or should I say soon to be novia" Dolores said which made Pepa have a rainbow in her head and the others teasing Camilo.
"DOLORES!!!"
Tumblr media
     You had met Duff in a coffee shop in LA. It was crowded and you were lucky enough to snag a chair before the lunch rush. Duff wasn't, and asked you if he could sit at your table.
     You grew up with Guns n Roses, bought his solo album the day it came out when you were just 15, and now listened to Velvet Revolver faithfully. To see your idol, your celebrity crush stand right in front of you holding a cup of coffee and a scone sent you for a loop.
     "Of course," you had said, starry eyed. You were only hoping he was as kind as the interviews made him out to be. Maybe have a conversation with you and be polite for a while before leaving and never seeing each you again. That would be good enough.
     It didn't end with a coffee, it had just begun. He asked for your number, and you stared at him for a moment thinking you had imagined it. That was until he tilted his head a little and looked at you with a nervous expression. He backtracked and you immediately stopped him.
     "No! I mean— yes! Yes, you can absolutely have my number." You scrambled for a pen and paper and ended up scratching your number on a receipt from the record store. You shook so hard you could barely get the numbers down.
     Out of all the record store receipts you've stuffed into your bag, the one you gave Duff Mckagan had to be the one for when you bought Velvet Revolver's 'Contraband.' He didn't say anything, just smiled and promised to call.
     You honestly didn't think he would've. You played it off as just him trying to be nice. It didn't stop you from answering every call you got for the next three days, however, even if you recognized the number as the tax collector you'd normally never answer.
     But then he called.
     "I tried calling sooner, but I kept calling the wrong number. You don't have the most eligible handwriting," he had told you. You laughed but really, you were in shock.
     You set up a date at the fancy restaurant downtown that always intimidated you. You didn't say anything though, even though you knew you wouldn't want any of the overpriced food and you'd end up eating something you couldn't pronounce and was two portions too small. Maybe even hit up a fast food joint afterwards.
     When the day finally came, you couldn't even figure out what to wear. You couldn't tell if you looked underdressed or like you were trying too hard. Did the clothes even fit the right way? What would Duff think? Would he even care?
     All questions were answered when you left your house. Duff was leaning against his slick car parked in your driveway, a button up that was barely buttoned and dress pants with boots. He stared at you and you wanted a hole in the ground to shallow you up until he smiles.
     "You look gorgeous," he said. You blushed and grinned, thanking him before saying that he looked great too. He drove you to the restaurant and on the way, you talked about music.
     You shared some of your favorites, he adored how well rounded you were. You liked pretty much everything from punk rock to the mellowest of mellow. Duff mentioned some of his favorites, some you made sure to remember the names of so you can check them out.
     When the ride was over and you finally got to the restaurant, your previous fears came back. Duff reassured you looked better than 90% of the people there and you knew it wasn't true but it made you feel better anyway.
     Your eyes widened to the size of saucers when you saw the prices of the food. You knew it'd be pricey but you thought there'd be more options that stayed within two digit numbers.
     Duff saw your panicked expression and said not to worry, he'd pay. It didn't settle your nerves enough and when the waiter came, you ordered the cheapest and simplest thing you could find.
     "Chicken noodle soup?" He teased. You shyly looked down and shrugged. "This isn't your scene, is it?"
     "Not exactly, no."
     "Want me to be completely honest with you?" You nodded. "It's not mine either."
     That's all it took for you and Duff to scramble sheepishly out of the restaurant. You both shared a laugh in the car and went to Burger King. It was much more your speed and, as you'd find out that night, Duff's too. You suppose all the money he's had since such a young age didn't completely change his ways. He was like a kid trapped in a 40 year old man's body.
     You'd thought at first the age gap would feel strange, after all, you were 15 years younger than him. But after that night, it was barely noticeable. Funny looks from strangers every once in a while was nothing.
     By the second date, Duff was already aware fancy spots weren't your forte. He told you it was a surprise and to wear something cozy, as LA nights got chilly.
     He packed a picnic basket and drove you out to the most beautiful flower field you had ever seen at sunset. It was secluded and high up, giving a perfect view of the city skyline. After gawking and taking in the sights for a few moments, you regained your ability to speak.
     "It's gorgeous. Pretty far from the city, did you take me here to kill me?" You joked. He laughed and rolled his eyes. His lighthearted laugh sent sparks straight to your heart, and you decided that it was your favorite sound.
     You unfolded the blanket Duff brought and you both sat down. You ate the sandwiches and sliced fruit Duff packed and talked. You talked about everything, from your family to fears and insecurities.
You told him how you suffer from nightmares. Flashbacks from your broken childhood coming back to bite you in your sleep. Duff shared how he's suffered from panic attacks since he was a teenager. You felt you knew each other for years.
Neither of you felt weird for sharing and neither made the other insecure. You were completely open and honest with each other. It was strange, you've never connected to quickly and effortlessly with someone before. Sure, you've had men in your life, but never had you clicked with someone so fast, never had you fit with someone so perfectly.
Hours passed and it felt like minutes. Only did you realize how late and how exhausted you were when you saw most of the city buildings light have gone off for the night. The city that didn't sleep was dark.
"I should get you home," Duff said to you.
"Will you stay the night?" You felt a little silly for asking. Were things going too fast? Would he even want to stay over?
He agreed, and that's how your first night together went. You both stayed up even later and had more lighthearted conversations, unlike the ones that partook at the field. Like how one of Duff's first jobs was at a bakery and could bake a mean cake and how you can't cook to save your life.
You ended up waking up without remembering falling asleep. You're head was placed comfortably on Duff's lap while his head was lolled back against the couch cushion. He looked so serene and peaceful you couldn't help but smile at the sight.
You made toast and somewhat successfully cooked some eggs and bacon. It might have been the first breakfast in years that didn't end with the smoke alarm going off.
Duff eventually wandered into the kitchen and you both ate. By the time he left, another date was already set up. He was like a drug an you were already hooked.
Months later and the addiction still wasn't kicked. You didn't want to, and Duff didn't seem to want you to quit either. You both soaked each other up like the sun on a warm day.
You had almost weekly dates and you stayed over each other's houses almost every other day. Duff did have his kids some days, though, so some days dates were cut short or Grace and Mae slept over his house and you wouldn't see each other.
You were always understanding, his kids came first and you'd never blame or get upset about it. It's something Duff admires about you, your never ending understanding and empathy for him.
One of those days where Duff stayed over at your house started normal. He cooked dinner and you washed the dishes, and then you put on an old Ramones concert you had on DVD.
You were laying on his chest, his fingers running through your hair when all of a sudden, he tensed up. He quickly stood and excused himself to the bathroom. You frowned but before you could think much of it, you heard a loud bang and something clatter to the ground.
You jumped up and rushed to the bathroom. You swung open the door because you were perfectly aware the lock hasn't worked since you moved in.
Duff was sitting on the floor, a pill bottle laying on its side not far from him. You quickly spot the name of the medication and identified it as your anti-anxiety pills. You shoved them aside and sat next to Duff.
He was sweating bullets and his skin felt cold and clammy, his breaths were labored and heartbeat was loud and pounding erratically. You coax him gently to take deep breaths, holding onto his hand tightly and talking quietly.
"I'm sorry, they come on randomly sometimes," he apologized after he'd called down, but you quickly shushed him. You reminded him of just how many nightmares he'd comforted you for and he stops feeling so bad about it.
     It was always a true partnership with Duff. Never had you felt you gave or took too much, it was always equal. Always a two way street, with everything.
That wasn't the last panic attack you had to help him come down from. Later down the line you've gotten better at calming him down and learning his triggers, even though sometimes they really do come on suddenly without reason.
A year into the relationship was when you met Grace and Mae. They were young and didn't completely understand why their parents weren't together anymore, so it took them a while to warm up to you. Luckily, they eventually came around.
Duff and Susan met up regularly to discuss their kids and co-parent properly. And while you had all the reason to be jealous of your boyfriend with his ex wife, you never did. You had complete confidence in him, he was honest and loyal and you doubted he'd ever hurt you purposely.
That's why it destroyed you when he left you. Tears were shed from both parties as he gave his reasons for breaking up with you. His insecurities he tried his best to bury had come to light and nothing could change his mind.
You thought you were completely honest with each other, but you suppose his doubt in his relationship with you was the one thing he kept secret. He had somehow convinced himself you'd be better without him, between the constant touring and the baggage that came with him and his kids, he finally buckled under the weight and stress.
You had tried to convince him that he was worth it, but if Duff is one thing it's stubborn. The best relationship you'd ever have and the best year of your life went down the drain within the matter of one conversation.
You were down in the dumps for days. You barely left your bed and didn't ever leave your house. You were in a depression and couldn't get out. A few of your friends eventually found out what had happened and broke into your house and shoved you into the shower before taking you to your favorite Chinese restaurant.
You felt like a disaster. Your hair was ratted despite the shower and you refused to put real clothes on, instead wearing sweatpants and a shirt Duff had left behind. You were a mess.
The hole in the wall restaurant was never busy but always had the best food. You were almost happy your friends dragged you out of your home until you saw Duff sitting at a table, eating egg rolls and lo mein.
You've came here together all the time. The high sodium in the food always made him sick to his stomach and you'd always end up giving him nausea remedies and tea. He never changed his order though.
You locked eyes with him for a while. Dark bags were under his eyes and he looked more pale than usual. He looked as terrible as you felt. You weren't sure if you were spitefully glad he felt awful or if the despair on his face just made your heart break further.
When you couldn't take his intense jade stare anymore, you looked up at the menu. The next time you looked back he was gone, you weren't sure if he was really there at all or if you were finally losing your mind for good.
     Another week crawled by. You got better enough to continue working. You had to pick up extra time for calling out for a few days after the breakup. You wouldn't say things were going well, but you weren't crying in bed every day all day anymore.
     You had constant dreams about him. Some were nice, ones where he didn't leave and you were together, holding each other tightly. Most were nightmares, flashbacks of when he left. You didn't have him to comfort you anymore when you woke up soaked in sweat and tears, and that might've been the worst.
     Another week went by, and you were starting to get back into the swing of things. You still thought about him, even silly little things reminded you of him. Like when you would catch a sniff of freshly baked sweets like he'd bake you or certain songs playing on the radio. It also didn't help that you ran into people wearing Guns n Roses shirts on the daily.
     You also refused to get rid of anything he'd left behind. Tee shirts, guitar picks he left from when he'd play for you, or CDs from bands he introduced you to. Reminders of what you lost were scattered around your home but you couldn't bring yourself to do anything about it.
     Suddenly, it's been a month. You weren't over him, but you had a feeling you'd never be completely. He was something special, you can't forget things as special as your relationship with Duff.
     His items still weren't thrown out or returned, instead all packed in a box sitting in your closet. But you'd be lying if you said you would never reach into the box to grab a shirt to sleep in or a CD to listen to when you needed a reminder of the good times. You were making progress though.
     You decided to leave your house one evening. You were feeling especially terrible and wanted to take a walk to clear your head. You went to the coffee shop you had first met Duff in. Maybe it was a mistake to go and get a flood of memories but you couldn't stop yourself.
     You sat in a seat near the window and people watched, taking occasional sips of your drink. It was quiet except from the talk of the workers and the hum of the overhead speakers.
     There was a sudden squeak of a chair of hardwood floors and it broke you out of your daze. You snapped your gaze up to meet the very familiar green eyes you've been trying to forget.
     "Can we talk?" He asked, and you couldn't say 'no.' Duff sat across from you and started off by apologizing.
     He said he wanted to talk to you sooner, but was too afraid you wouldn't want anything to do with him. You rolled your eyes at that, if only he knew just how much you missed him.
     He then started from the beginning and explained why he made the decision to leave you. As it turns out, it was mostly because of stress. His bandmate Scott was having problems with drugs and the flashbacks from his GnR days frightened him. He was worried he would end up relapsing and he didn't want to drag you down with him.
     Combine that with all the troubles that came with dating a single father, and he couldn't take it anymore. He felt too guilty.
     It all seemed like ridiculous reasons to you. Even if he had made the mistake of falling off the wagon, you still would've stuck with him. And you didn't mind his kids at all, after nearly a year of knowing them and you were very close to them.
     "I love you, Duff. I wouldn't have left you over that, I'd help you through anything. And I love Grace and Mae, too," you told him.
     "I know, but I didn't want you to have to deal with all that baggage." You frowned at that. You reached your hand across the table and grasped his, squeezing it tenderly.
     "You're worth it."
     After that day, you and Duff started seeing each other again. It wasn't the same as before, but maybe even better.
     You were more transparent with each other. If one had a worry or problem, you'd go to the other. You talked everything through with him and he did the same. Even if it seemed insignificant, talking everything through never failed to make it better.
    You were happier and healthier than ever before. Sure, there were a roadblock or two, but they only made the relationship even stronger, and you wouldn't have changed a thing about it.
Furuba autistic headcanons
With it being April, or autism acceptance month, I wanted to finally drop my list of characters from Fruits Basket that I read as autistic! This is based a lot on my own experience, as well as that of other autistics I know or have seen talk online. I hope some people can get something out of it, feel free to tell me what you think 😊, though please refrain from getting upset that I would dare suggest your fave is autistic.
Hanajima
Before becoming able to better control her powers, she would be constantly overwhelmed by the things she heard to the point that she couldn't even really go out in public. This reads a lot like sensory overload.
Constantly picked on in school because other kids thought she was weird. Eventually reclaimed this weirdness and turned it into a whole persona.
Seems to talk usually in a relatively flat tone.
Had trouble socializing with no friends outside her family until middleschool.
Has a very funny, dry sense of humor that I find very similar to a bunch of autistics I know, including myself.
Hatsuharu
Listen. You have seen the funky little man, you have seen the way he talks, the way he acts around others. He is, and I mean this in the best way, a weirdo. I do not know how you could look at him and see a neurotypical.
Once again, like Hana, Haru is funny in a way that feels very autistic.
Very flat, dry, tone delivery. Sometimes just Says Things that make everyone else go huh??? Suuuuper blunt. Doesn't emote facially a lot of the time.
When this man sees a social norm he doesn't get he WILL NOT follow it. Pierces his ears just because his hair got flak, defends Momiji wearing whatever he wants because sometimes y'know the social rules are just dumb and don't make sense. Especially dress codes.
Sometimes says things not befitting the current tone of the situation.
Represses (masks) a lot of his emotions, leading to outbursts that seem uncharacteristic.
His main childhood trauma revolves around adults branding him as "dumb" and ridiculing him. Haru, however, is super smart and wise!! Just in an offbeat way that not everyone may get.
Machi
Reads as very "flat" emotionally to the point that others would call her boring. Also has a flat vocal delivery.
Relies on specific habits or ways of doing things or else she gets super upset (her hatred of imperfection.
Has trauma surrounding adults completely misconstruing her intentions and thinking she's doing something malicious when she's not.
Generally behaves in a way that's hard for others to understand, one of her formative moments with Yuki was him saying he wanted to "see how the world looks" through her eyes.
Once again, trouble socializing.
Tries super hard to please her parents but in the end they still see her as somehow inherently "defective."
Listen. A lot of this one and the last two are mostly vibes, hard to verbally define. You just have to look at them and trust me.
Tohru
Displays behavior very reminiscent of masking throughout the story, a huge part of her arc is about how she hides a lot of herself and has a very controlled persona. I think it would fit very well if she had other autistic behaviors that she suppresed also it helps explain why she is relatively socially adept, it's learned behavior to make people like her more.
Yes she is very good at saying what others need to hear, but especially early on she is pretty blatantly imitating her mother's words. She only gets better at getting through on a more personal level later on (see her with Rin and Akito v. early series Tohru). She does this by relating her own experiences, a very autistic way of showing empathy that often gets us written off as self centered. The way she relays things her mom said could also be seen as this, and she even worries at a few points that she's being insensitive for going on about things like that.
While emotionally repressed she is hyper empathetic and feels other's emotions so strongly she cries.
Her speech patterns are all imitated from her father and she often copies verbal things from others (see Ritchan-san). Noted in canon that people think her way of speaking is slightly off/not befitting of someone her age. Additionally, her father was polite more sarcastically, while she plays it straight and sometimes takes things very literally or fails to get the message, indicating trouble with reading tone. Has numerous strange verbal tics, including saying parts of her internal monologue out loud without context.
Very expressive with her hands including waving them around and flapping them up and down.
Does have a bit of trouble with accidental insensitivity in social interactions, like how she constantly fixates on her mom and realizes that might bug the Sohma.
Has trouble paying attention in school since it doesn't have much to do with her interests
Her only friend until she was a middle schooler was her mom
Has a pretty unique outlook on things compared to others, people seem to think she's pretty eccentric. There's always a "this girl is nice but in an odd way, she's our weirdo and we love her" vibe.
Sometimes has an "inappropriate" emotional response to situations
Has a lot of trouble with change, similar to Akito. Which oh, look at the time, next hc coming up.
But first, a disclaimer. It is cathartic for me to read Akito this way, but with that reading comes the baggage that she would, mayhaps, be showing a more negative side of things... It doesn't bother me since it's a joint hc with other characters and she does develop at the end but yeah, general villain hc baggage. This is in no way me trying to excuse her being The Worst being autistic doesn't absolve you of being able to do wrong . Also, a lot of these points can and do have other explanations related to her upbringing, but things can be for more than 1 reason. With that said, she really strongly comes off as autistic to me, in a way that's sorta hard to explain. I wrote a lot more for her than the other, both because I felt I needed more to convince people and that this headcanon was more sensitive and I needed to be careful in my explanation. Also hey! She's my special interest within a special interest.
Akito
Shown to have a dislike of summer weather due to heat and brightness, could be due to sensory issues in tandem with sickness things. Also covers her ears when people raise their voice sometimes which is partially her trying to shut down opposition but also 🤔 can read a different way. She'd also avoids louder Juuni like Ritsu and Ayame because she can't handle them.
Wears pretty much the same outfit every single day. Said outfit is also pretty loose fitting.
Always seen sitting in a pretty unconventional way. Evidence:
Tumblr media
Of course this is also the isolated in a cult thing and there is a level of her purposefully doing things to intimidate but: doesn't follow a lot of social rules (overly touchy with strangers, legit doesn't get that what she's doing is wrong, ect.). Repeatedly confused when people indicate she should act otherwise without explanation. Has a breakdown when this comes to a head and approximately says that "they" shouldn't expect her to know "common sense" if "they" never explained it to her, that the way that she was was her "common sense."
Often talks in a way uncharacteristic of her age when shown as a child in a more faux mature/pretentious way. Might just be the translation and idk how to explain it but her speech as an adult also seems off from what one would normally use in conversation. Additionally, when she tries to fake being friendly in her intro chapter, it comes of as extremely stiff and unconvincing.
Generally displays behavior that could be thought of as childish as an adult, but a lot of this behavior could also read as autistic (covering ears, emotional deregulation and meltdowns, ignorance of basic social norms, ect.). It's also important to note that she knows that this behavior makes her seem younger and more helpless to the older zodiac and uses it as a manipulation tactic. Has issues regarding people treating her like a child or only hanging out with her because of pity. While she does weaponize it, we can tell that this grates on her, as seen with her finally blowing up on Kureno, which is partially triggered by the maids saying some sorta infantalizing stuff about her. Irl, a lot of autistic adults and teens struggle with being infantalized for our behavior generally or treated as little babies that can do no wrong. Even in fandom, you see people doing stuff like jumping to call autistic adult characters, such as Entrapta from Shera, "minor coded." It is also common for us to have at least one bad experience with someone hanging around us out of pity. This is something that really gave me a similar feeling in Akito's arc. She's not a baby and she can understand and do better if she is given the chance to learn and break from all the freaky cult indoctrination she's been subjected to instead of just being constantly enabled. In the end, a lot of her growth is represented by her showing that she is capable of changing and being independent.
Shows particular difficulty with socialization, often sits by herself spacing out at social events. A lot of her fear is rooted in the fact that she doesn't know how normal relationships work, becoming overly reliant on the curse because she doesn't know how to make friends.
Clings desperately onto the notion of being "special" and in some way superior to others to be worthy and to make up for perceived inherent "flaws." It's the nd gifted kid burnout vibes for me.
Easily bothered by things that don't bother others. Feels emotions very strongly to the point of getting physically ill and has bad emotional regulation.
Relatively good at reading others in an analytical sense (though has more trouble when it comes to seeing how they feel about her since she's wildly delusional) but brings up her observations in a very cold, detached way and hurts people even on the rare occasion she didn't mean to. Has extreme trouble connecting to others and understanding their point of view. This makes her come off as pretty unempathetic even though that might not fully be the case. Also thinks that people like Momiji are trying to look down on her when they try to empathize with her. A lot of why Tohru can get through to her is that she manages to convince Akito that she's not condescending by relating shared traits and experiences. As I said earlier, autistics often empathize by sharing their own experiences with someone, and I know I often have an easier time confiding in other autistics because of a fear of being seen as lesser by those that don't understand me. I think the connection between these charachters and the way that Tohru manages to reach Akito like that while others couldn't makes a lot of sense through an autistic lense!
Additionally, when Akito herself gets around to trying to help others instead of just projecting trauma, she tries to reach out to the old maid by relating back to her own experiences. This however, doesn't work.
Has "cold" emotional reactions sometimes even to things that do make her upset. For example, how sort of calm and detached she acted after her father's death can make her seem uncaring. However, we know that this event did mess her up a lot and she is still (poorly) dealing with a lot of grief from the death of her father years later.
Copies mannerisms from others, the most blatant example is with Ren, who she directly parrots lines from as a child to Yuki.
Partly just her posturing, but gestures a lot with her hands when she talks. Also seen several times clutching her hands in her hair.
Deals extremely poorly with the idea of things changing to the point that it is a driving force of the story.
Does not understand when people tease her.
Ect. Ect. Ect. Listen, I could go on for ages but just trust me, the mean gremlin lady is autistic.
𝐀 𝐖𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 ☆ミ 𝐣𝐰𝐲
༄𝒔𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒚: Wooyoung is so excited to have a day off with his friends and fellow ATEEZ groupmates and does his best to cook something yummy for a Sunday picnic, and everything is so perfect and tasty that it is to die for!
Tumblr media
 𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒓𝒆: slice of life, fluff and a little surprise at the end.
 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒅 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕: 1,9k
 [𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔]: so... there's something like a plot twist, hehe ٩ (ᐛ) و I'm sorry I can't put it on the tags
𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: English is not my first language so I'm sorry if I made some mistakes, I'm still learning.
༺❀༻
For Wooyoung today is definitely a wonderful and beautifully sunny day, perfect to have the best picnic of his life. Anyone who looked at the young man would instantly know that he was more than ecstatic with the big and genuine smile spread across his pretty face.
It was eight in the morning and the black-haired boy was in the kitchen listening to music with his headphones while he happily cooked for himself and his friends.
The sun was streaming in through the window and the rays of it made the young man's dark hair appear to have reddish tones giving it an ethereal touch.
Everyone in the apartment were asleep, and all that could be heard was the sound of cabinet doors and countertop drawers opening along with the the soft humming to the rhythm of the music coming from the kitchen.
Wooyoung made sandwiches, prepared orange juice and lemonade in cute glass bottles, and also made cupcakes with strawberries and kiwis with cream for dessert, as well as put fruits cut into animal shapes in small tuppers.
As he thought about what might be missing for the picnic, he realized that he didn't know where the baskets and blankets were even though Seonghwa had packed the baskets yesterday and told him at least three times where he had kept them, but Wooyoung was too busy playing with San that all he did was say “Yes, yes, I know! You don't have to say it so many times, I'm not going to forget it.”, without really listening to what the older man had said.
And there he was, trying to remember what the blonde told him without succeeding so he started looking all over the place.
“Basket, basket.... Where are you, basket?” He called out as if the basket was a puppy that could run to him.
After several unsuccessful attempts, he thought about talking to Seonghwa but the fear that Hongjoong would scold him for being so careless made him retract and decided to go back to looking in the first places where he had looked at the beginning: because for some unknown reason things are always in the first place they seemed not to be.
And he was right. With a victorious smile he took the baskets and ran to put them on the table to start packing the food and drinks, then grabbed eight glasses and put them away along with a couple of pastel napkins.
With excitement he went to his room to change his clothes and take the opportunity to wake up San and Jongho, who seemed reluctant to get up, mainly San who hugged his Shiber plushie tighter. The raven-haired boy smirked and uncovered him, then grabbed the other boy by the ankles to drag him off the bed, but the latter grabbed onto the bed as hard as he could while he screamed in a high-pitched voice.
“Let me and my son Shiber sleep in peace!”
But Wooyoung didn't care and while he laughed in an outrageously way he kept pulling him. Jongho, who shared a room with those two got up disheveled and in a bad mood. All the noise made it impossible for him to stay more time in that room and before leaving he let out a groan of annoyance as he went to the bathroom.
“Why do I feel like I'm the oldest in this place?”
Due to the noise, the others began to wake up, but not before cursing Wooyoung and San mentally, like every day.
Little by little the place began to fill with the noise of the voices of the other boys, and the doors of their rooms opening and closing.
San struggled to get up, grabbed a pillow and started hitting Wooyoung on the head while the shorter one laughed like a maniac, his laughter was contagious and the pink haired boy started laughing too.
Hongjoong walked into the room with his face half pale and his hands slightly shaking, he looked at the two boys and told them to hurry up and go to the living room.
San and Wooyoung looked at each other with concern before getting done, and heading to the room where the others were already, waiting for Jongho to come out of the bathroom so they could enter and wash.
In the living room Hongjoong and Seonghwa were talking in whispers in the corner, their expressions looked worried while Mingi and Yunho commented on what they would do at night when they returned home and Yeosang looked at them with an empty expression, it was Sunday and definitely too early in the morning to join an actual conversation, though it's not like he's very talkative after all.
Jongho came out of the bathroom and went to look for something in the living room, where he accidentally overheard a bit of the conversation of the older boys in the group.
“[...] and that's why I'm telling you not to worry, Hongjoong. Today will be a great day, it is impossible for a bad dream to come true and there is no point in staying locked up at home. So coming with us to a picnic will not kill you.” half consoled and half joked the older.
The leader just nodded and agreed, laughing a little and realizing that in reality the situation was absurd, dreams are only dreams and nothing else, no matter how real they may seem.
He just needs to go out and clear himself up a bit and it would be much better if it's with the people he cares the most, so he's more than determined to go out thanks to Seonghwa's persuasion.
The youngest continued on his way to his room to change his clothes without giving much thought.
The other boys ran to the bathroom, and then to their rooms to put on clothes suitable for the day.  When everyone was ready, San asked Hongjoong what was wrong with him because he was still worried because the older one had looked very strange today when he went to talk to them, and he only answered that he had slept very little and had a nightmare, and that he only needed a little air and he would feel better already, which calmed everyone present who had also noticed Hongjoong's state but hadn't said anything before.
───── ❀ ◦ ❀ ◦ ❀ ─────
The trip was full of laughter, music and talk, it really was a very beautiful day and it was getting better and better, all the unnecessary worries of the morning and days gone by were left behind, without leaving room for anxiety or stress. This break was exactly what they needed and they knew it.
The weather was sunny but it wasn't hot at all, everyone were wearing light clothes without being so summery because every so often a small cold wind ran that gave you chills, and with the warmth of the sun's rays they were the perfect contrast wich feels like a good sensation against the skin.
They arrived at the planned place and got out of the van, while they stretched they observed the beauty of Mother Nature that surrounded them and the peace that only she can transmit.
It looked like a scene out of a Studio Ghibli movie with soft colored flowers, the trees gave beautiful shadows perfect to sit under them and the wind swayed the grasses from time to time but without being annoying. There was also a small stream with transparent cold water and you could heard the sound of the water running and hitting the stones at the same time that you could also hear the songs of birds, cicadas and some frogs. It was fresh and peaceful.
Wooyoung threw himself on the grass and started rolling followed by a very excited Yunho, Mingi, and San. Seonghwa and Yeosang were looking at them with expressions of 'I'm judging you intensely', but they secretly wished to do the same.
Jongho and Hongjoong looked for the baskets and blankets and then began to set up the picnic and take photos as if they were in an impromptu photoshoot to save memories and upload a couple to Twitter for their beloved Atinys, to which the other boys also joined and took photos with them. Some turned out fine and others... well, some were blurry or someone would always appear in the back with a derp expression causing the photos to be ruined, but it was funny so no one complained and they just continued to enjoy each other's company.
“We should have more days like this.” Mingi said with a huge and sweet smile as he collected flowers and put them in his hair to take pictures. Everyone agreed with what the tall boy had said and Yunho imitated his friend by putting flowers in his hair as well and they both challenged the other to a duel over who would get the most likes on his posts.
“Guys ... I spent a lot of time preparing the food, why don't we start eating at once?”
An annoyed Wooyoung said while taking a sandwich and starting to eat, his friends laughed and ate with him. All the food tasted very good and they all thanked the boy for putting so much effort into this day and taking care of them.
“Why don't we toast Wooyoung's delicious food and our friendship?” San suggested, breadcrumbs on his cheeks that made him look adorable.
Yeosang took the glasses that were still stored in the basket, served them all lemonade and orange juice, and smiled as he said playfully.
“Everyone, consider this an act of charity on my behalf”
The other members started saying things to him and he just laughed as he raised his glass and toasted the others.
No one noticed how Wooyoung did not even take a sip of the juice and simply put it on the blanket on the ground, while looking at the sky, it was very clear and beautiful, everything was so calm and the wind began to sway the leaves of the tree over his head causing the sun to hit his face, when he looked down at the ground his friends looked strange.
The black-haired man looked at them more closely and their pupils were excessively dilated. Hongjoong was choking and struggling for air while a worried Seonghwa tried to help him but felt nauseous and with drowsy legs he tried to run to vomit, Jongho was confused and his brain couldn't process anything that was happening around him, Yunho had a hand pressed on his heart which was beating very fast while Mingi was lying on the ground motionless, not even breathing and San was trying to wake up Mingi with a dry mouth and a really bad bellyache.
Yeosang looked at Wooyoung, who was perfectly fine, as he tried to speak.
“Woo.... Wo.... Young... What... did you do to us?”
But he never got an answer before his joints completely stop working and he drops with a dry sound just like his other friends.
The black-haired boy took a cupcake and calmly ate it, ignoring the seven lifeless bodies of his friends because for Wooyoung today is definitely a wonderful and beautifully sunny day, perfect to have the best picnic of his life. Anyone who looked at the young man would instantly know that he was more than ecstatic with the big and genuine smile spread across his pretty face.
what have I created?
idk if yall like this, but they just exist not i guess :/
ok the the first one is Royalty AU
first things first, when I say Royalty AU, I don't mean the classic shit we've all become accustomed to. Im talking about the good old Chinese royalty! And I want to emphasize that these guys will/should be dressed in century appropriate attire. As someone thats read a handful of 'marinette, princess of china' fics from the ML Fandom, I've noticed a common trend. Marinette wouldn't be in the culturally appropriate clothes, always ballgowns. Not that there's something wrong with it, its just most of if not all these fic are set in China, so I'd expect Chinese royalty to dress as THERE dress code calls for. And since this AU takes place far in the past like, it won't make sense for any of the characters to be in royal clothing that wasn't from there region. I'm not trying to white knight/gatekeeping. Im Guyanese not Chinese. But since JTTW and Monkie Kid take place in China, it's only right. In my opinion that it. You don't have to outright agree with me.
With out of the way, it's time for that good old AU crack
- Wukong is the king of the Flower Fruit kingdom(or a different one if you'd like, again I'm only familiar with what western culture has taught me, but I'll try my hardest)
- he’s single but rumor has it he used to/still is dating the Vigilante/thief The Six Eared Macaque
- *chants ShadowPeach violently*
- no one know whether it true or not
- On of his wanders around the kingdom he finds an abandoned baby in a basket.
- and no shit sherlock it's fucking baby Xiaotian
- I think we all know where this is going because i'm a simp for Monkey Dad & Monkie Son shenanigans
- Xiaotian becomes prince
Shit, ill be referring to Xiaotian as Mk from now on, I mentioned this before in a fic I wrote for lmk that Mk's a nickname for Xiaotian for some reason- wait i don't have to explain my self to you people!
- Sun loves his son
- MK is treated differently by staff and others because he's not blood related to the king
- no one mistreats MK per say, because there King loved his adopted son, but words are said behind his back
- Sometimes MK hears what’s said, and he feels as if he won't live up to his dad’s legacy.
- He meets Mei during a festival
- Mei is from a noble family, that wouldn't mind if they got a connection into the royal family.
- but it becomes hella clear to Mei’s family very fast that the two are just friends, and will always will be. but hey there daughter is bffs with the prince so that's a plus.
_
- the Demon Bull Family is rules a kingdom as well, I dont/am not creative enough to think of a name I leave that to you.
- It's a common misconception that DBK is a tyrant, when he’s not.
- most of the time...
- they have been at war with the Monkey King for some time now and settled for a peace agreement.
- that agreement being there sons to marry
- oooo original i know
- MK and Red Son are roughly the same age, Mk being 20 and RS 22
- RS is revolted/disgusted at the idea of being wed to the Monkey Kings child, even more so when he realizes MK is adopted,
- but, that all changes the second he meets MK while he meets him by accident when he gets kinda lost in the palace when he and his parents go to discuss the arrangements.
- the second he looks at MK, he's instantly in love. MK less so, he's nervous and honestly kinda bummed he's not marrying someone he loves but it's for the good of his ppl, and he'll do anything for them.
- RS isn't even aware that MK is Suns adopted son until MK walks him back to the meeting room.
"Oh There you are MK! I was about to have a servant go fetch you!" Sun Wukong says, gesturing for his boy to come sit with him.
"S-sorry for keeping you waiting I got caught up in my lessons with Mr. Tang" MK responds, sitting next to his father. Red Son looked gobsmacked. The beautiful young man he had bumped into, was the prince of this land? Damn, life truly blessed him. Or cursed him depending on how you looked at it.
- the two are left alone in a separate room for a while.
- And MK straight up tells RS why he's agreeing to this union.
"Look Red Son. I've dreamed about meeting my one true love for a while. And I would give almost anything for that dram to be real. But I wouldn't ever dare give up my people, for as there price they mean more to me. I'm doing this for them, no other reason" MK says, his back straight and hands folded neatly in his lap. The look in his eyes was a mix of sadness, but that was drowned out by loyalty and determination. It just made Red Son fall for him even harder. Clearing his throat Red spoke.
"I understand, for im doing this for the betterment of my people to. But I propose a wager"
"A wager?"
"Yes, if i can make you fall in love with me by years end, before our marriage, we can live together like in the fairy tales from far away. But if I fail, in a years time afterwards you will be permitted to find your own path in life" Red Son stated. MK took a moment to process what was happening.
"So, if you succeed in making me fall in love with you, before our marriage we can live happily ever after?" Red Son nodded in response, letting the younger continue.
"And if I shouldn't fall for you, in a years time after our union, im free to leave?" Red Son nodded once more.
"So, what do you say?"
...
"Deal"
In the end, your free to choose their fate, should Red Son win the hart of Mk? Will he fail? Or will he let him go, and let him travel the country, after all Mk's a free spirit and keeping him trapped in a big house is like keeping a cannery trapped in a cage only for its song, only for it to dul. Or will the unthinkable happen and will both boys find their freedom? together or appart? I don't know, because that's all up to you 😉
personally, I’m partial to where MK and Red Son both find freedom together. Like they straight up run away together to somewhere far away and just live out there lives together.
this could also be genderbent thing as well. MK or Red as their respective counterparts. Again it doesn't have to be, but it’s whatever bro. im just spitting out the idea.
Also, there is a main side plot that they fight the WBS throughout the year as well, along with other shenanigans you wanna throw in.
____
The second is a My Hero Academia/BNH/MHA AU
truth be told i'm not a big fan of MHA i think it to over hyped(this is also coming from the same person that’s a Fairy Tail fan lol), and the fandom i don't even know how to describe that mess, but I will admit not the whole of its toxic since every fandom has some toxic members, some even more so.
I just sometimes find myself enjoying MHA AUs like the Fullmetal Alchemist, Danny Phantom, Evil!Deuk AU and several others.
to make it clear I don't see this AU taking place the same time as the main plot of the actual Anime/Manga. This could be either like 6-10 years before or after the plot idk bro. But i’ll do this after the main story plot of MHA, so keep that in mind ya? another thing, the gang is still in China, the top hero school in the world just so happens to be in Japan, and it’s only ever mentioned by Sun wukong and other pro heros. So MK never attended AU. in short it’s only ever mention/ reference.
_
- Mk was considered Quirkless as a kid.
- he was just a late blumer, i swear
- Mai’s Quirk is called Dragon.
- it pretty much works the same way as it does in the show(duh)
- Tang’s got a knowledge Quirk,
- my man can retain information and he’s basically an archive of information drawback being his personality lol
- Piggsy is a Animal that gained a Quirk
- in cannon to my current knowledge, there are two other characters that can confirm animals can become sentient. the characters being Fumikage Tokoyami, & Nezu the principal at the school UA.
- Sandy is just Conner Kent, aka he like superman but can't fly, or shoot lasers from his eyes. And blue.
I have two scenarios for Macaque and Wukong
*- The first one is that, Sun Wukong & Macaque are brothers. twins to be exact.
- they where legit people, but have mutation quirks that made them too like monkeys.
- the added powers were just a boues.
- Sun and Mac are close growing up, like there brothers but also best friends.
- the draw back to there quirks could honestly be whatever you want bro idk, same with the others tbh. Personally I like to think Sun just has lack of motivation, and Macaque needs to draw on other people's energy.
- Sun is a hero, Monkey KIng and Mac is a villain Six Eared.
- Sun was always treated has the golden child in the family, Mac always resented that, but there shitty up bring didn’t stop the two from being good brothers to one another.
- soon tho the resentment became hatred when Sun was able to attend UA in Japan, while Mac didn't.
- Mac be angy
- so he became a villain, and joined the Chinese branch of the LOV(league of villains)
- Sun doesn't know this till he finds out during the all out war during the main story. and by that time he’s a full on hero with is own agency(The Flower Fruit agency)
- when the hero's ultimately win and Mac is arrested
- This ultimately hurts Sun a lot, his brother was in jail now, arrested for his involvement and wrong doings, he knew nothing about this! this brother, his blood. A bad guy? why? he hadn't seen his brother since he left for UA, he hadn’t seen him when he came home, and started his agency.
- this just puts Sun into a funk so he’s not as active as he used to be, and he starts thinking he might need a successor
*- The second one is that they were two separate people that had similar quirks and both attended UA but Sun ended up in the hero corse. so 1A.
- Both Macaque and Sun have similar quirks, Sun’s is obviously more light based while Macaque’s is more shadow based(this applies to the first one as well)
- Macaque was placed in class 1B, U.A.’s High's Heroics Department, I believe, you can correct me.
- In cannon Class 1A and 1B both went to the training camp. I can see the teachers pinning Sun and Macaque against each other to hone their skills.
- And because of that they become great friends
- In fact when they graduate they both co-found there hero agency together in China and are a duo.
- But due to Monkey King’s popularity and Six Eared's association with shadows(people sometimes saying he has more of a villains quirk than a heros) the public see’s Macaque as Sun’s sidekick when thats far from the truth.
- now it’s up to you whether you think that Wukong and Macaque would be in a relationship together, but knowing how cooked we all are, ShadowPeach is a thing here more than likely.
- If you do or don’t support/ like the ShadowPeach aspect, the two would be living together regardless since its more cost efficient.
- They my be heroes but living costs are expensive!
- I would imagine there would have been a huge fight/argument between the two in privet of course, at there home.(or in there shared office if you want the extra angst of the other people they work with hearing them fight)
- If the two are dating, then this would either lead to an out right breakup, or Macaque just up and leaving with Wukong thinking he’ll come back once he’s cooled off. But after a week, with no sign of his partner, or him answering texts or calls, not even coming into work. Wukong gets worried that something might have happened to him. so there wouldn't be a confirmation if they were still a thing or not.
- But Wukong remains hopeful, despite the nagging at the back of his head, and gut telling him to go find Macaque, or atleast make a public statement, or even just tell another pro hero about it.
- on the not so shippy side, Macaque and Wukong still have there argument, and much like the ShadowPeach esc side, Macaque up and leaves, and isn't seen for weeks. the only difference here is that when Wukong comes home one night to there flat, most if not all of Macaques stuff is gone.
- where as if this was the ShadowPeach side, Macaque leaves all of his possession in the flat he and wukong share. for the simple reason being, he still loves him and wants to go back, but Macaque being Macaque can’t bring himself to do it, especially after seeing just how hurt Wukong looked when he yelled at him just before he left.
- in other words, ANGST DIALED UP TO A 10 BABY
- in either case, its a news report that confirms Wukong's suspicions that he desperately didn’t want to believe, and that is Macaque turning into a villain.
- much like if the two were brothers, Wukong just can’t take it and is no longer as active as he once was, and is thinking about, either A) Retirement  B) Saying, “Fuck Society, Be Gay Do Crime” and join Macaque as a villain himself, or C) find a successor, and a way to bring Macaque back to there side, but most importantly, back to him.
- also extra points if you're after people's hearts and want to make them suffer;  - If there dating, Wukong curle’s up in the bed he and Macaque shared, holding/wearing something of great value to Macaque and just crying himself to sleep, where as Macaque is getting wasted on alcohol, as he stumbles out of the bar he’s in, he either see’s something that reminds him of Wukong or while he’s trying to put his wallet back into his pocket, a photo of them on their first date fall’s out. and Macaque just cries in a nearby alley way. And it’s there where he gets indoctrinated into the League.
       - If there just friends, macaque heads to the nearest forest and just levels it, where as Wukong just gets engrossed into his work, trying not to think about it. you could add you own spin on this, again i'm just spitballing.
- NOW BACK TO MK! :D
- Obviously MK is a huge Monkey King fan
- at Twenty MK has come to terms he's quirkless (HE’S NOT)
-for ANGST reasons MKs fokes kicked him out at this realization at 13.
- he works at Piggsy's Noodle shop, and has been since he was 14.
- don't need a quirk to drive or cook!
- the boy lives a content life with his new family, till DBK happens :D
- DBK runs a Mafia(in conjunction with TLOV) and has been in jail for like 5 years thanks to Monkey King, PIF and RS brake him out one night when MK's out making a late night delivery since Piggsy had the bright idea to go 24/7 service!
- one thing leads to another and Mk somehow manifest what looks like the Monkey King's staff, but its not, it’s MKs powers, it just so happens to be the same power the Monkey King has. And it practically goes down the same way in the pilot.
- but unlike the pilot Mk and Mei go straight to the FF Agency, after making a panicked call to Pigsy and Tang.
- one way or another Mk are lead into Wukongs office. Mei being forced to stay in the lobby.
- they have there convo, butterfly monkey squishing included.
- "And so, I want you do be my success-" BOOM 💥
- from there they rush downstairs and see that the lobby has been infiltrated by the DB fam, and you know fight.
- once the DB family seems like there down, PIF wisks them away. Much to Monkey King’s displeasure.
From there stuff kind plays out like cannon, the calabash ep is just a conjoint quirk the Demon bros have. As for EP9, ill have to script that one out myself lol. I'll get onto it as soon as my will to commit stabs me in the face. Till then have a dancing Kermit the frog.
Now if you'll excuse me, am about to Kermit a felony :D
(For legal reasons thats a joke)
Psst @writingamongther0ses its done
Matters of the heart ep 10
Matters of the heart
Episode 10
First impressions
{OPENING CREDITS}
{open to morning in old corona; rooster crows and pans to Isaiah waking up; start reprise of “when will my life begin”} {Isaiah} Ugh. 7:15 it’s morning once again time to get up Go downstairs and eat whatever dad has made Go outside and get started on my chores Feed the pigs, milk the cows and now it’s 8;45 Time to get the eggs from all the mother hens Let sheep all out of their tiny pen Pick some fruit, and read, and just basically Wonder when will my life begin And I’ll keep wonderin’ and wonderin’
and wonderin’ and wonderin’ Just when will my life begin… Ugh… {end song with Isaiah kicking a bucket then promptly grabbing his foot} Isaiah: Ow! {cut to the edge of the forest and noremoth is looking over at old Corona} Noremoth: Corona...ick...The name always leaves a bad taste in my mouth… Cassandra: I would ask why but I feel like you're going to tell me even if I don't… Noremoth: a kingdom full of self-righteous people... too high and mighty to even care about helping those less fortunate.  they speak as if there's some sort of Heaven on earth and then they turn around and ignore your existence when you truly need them… Cassandra: that's not completely true… Noremoth:  and yet your past begs to differ sweet vessel… Cassandra: call me that again we will have problems. Noremoth:  temper temper... you know your mission correct? Cassandra:... yes… Noremoth:  good girl... repeat it, please. Cassandra:... infiltrate Corona get the Moonstone shard and leave. Noremoth:  that's a right and remember we're not here to diddle daddle... get it and go. Cassandra: You told me about the person who has it and let me just say I knew this person at one point and he's not going to give it up easily so how do you expect me to get it? {Noremoth unsheathes his sword} Noremoth: by any means necessary of course!  and don't forget if you try and tell anyone of what's going on... let's just say you won't want that. {Cassandra’s eyes flicker in color for a second; Cut to Isaiah in the orchard with a basket and a book} Isaiah: ughhh!  I'm never going to get this right!  it says to keep my knees leveled and balance but how am I supposed to do that when I can't even pick up the sword! {Ruddiger yawns and Isaiah walks over to a tree with a long sword resting on it; not to far away from him is a stump with a log on it} Isaiah: Okay... hold sword firmly in hands and swing forcefully down...Ruddiger,  if this kills me I want roses at my funeral, thank you! { he closes the book and picks up the sword; Cassandra appears from behind a tree that immediately Retreats behind it upon seeing him; Isaiah attempts to lift the sword} Cassandra: what on Earth is he doing? { Isaiah lifts the sword over his head but the weight causes him to fall  onto his back and drop it} Isaiah: Whoa!!...owwww…. { Cassandra cringes and walks over to him} Cassandra: what are you doing kid? { Isaiah immediately jumps up and tries listing The Sword in the defensive position} Isaiah: who are you!? I've never seen you around here before! are you a threat!? Cassandra: Okay first of all… { she sweeps out her leg knocking Isaiah's legs out from under him making him fall back to the ground} Cassandra: your stance was all wrong... secondly the sword is way too heavy for you you wouldn't be able to lift it further than your head if you tried I'm surprised you were even able to do that... this is a claymore kid… Isaiah:... it's my family's Greatsword... Cassandra: uh-huh... you do realize greatswords nowadays are practically decorative right? not actually used for fighting anymore. Isaiah:.. that would explain why it was so dull… { Cassandra helps him up and pulls out her own sword which is much thinner and medium-sized; she hands it over to him} Cassandra: there.  Better? Isaiah: yeah I'm actually kind of surprised at how much lighter this one feels. Cassandra:  your stance was all wrong your legs were crooked. don't Point them inward.  Point your knees outward and lift with your knees only curl your back when you're going to swing.  as for your aim might be a little more difficult for you considering your eye... your depth perception must be crap. Isaiah: hey! Cassandra:  I'm just speaking the truth kid… { she moves behind him and Maneuvers him into the correct position} Cassandra: there... Try it now. { Isaiah eyes her curiously before going to swing;  he cuts the log in half perfectly} Isaiah: I..I did it..I DID IT! Cassandra:  you sure did kid. Isaiah: thank you,  Miss... I didn't catch your name Cassandra:  my name is Cassandra but you can call me Cass. Isaiah:  I'm Isaiah... {cut to them sitting under a tree and having lunch together laughing} Cassandra: wow.. that is... quite the way to get a scar… Isaiah: yeah I probably should have thought that one through… Cassandra:  when I was younger I knew a kid not too much older than you and he almost crashed me with this giant robot thing… Isaiah:  geez that kid sounds unstable! Haha! Cassandra: yeah... haven't seen him in years... so do your parents know you want to be part of the royal guard or… Isaiah: my dad knows he tries not to show up but I know he's nervous about me joining... I never got to tell Mum… Cassandra: Why is that? Isaiah: I lost my mom when I was really little.  she was killed by Bandits… Cassandra: I'm really sorry about that kid… but you still got your dad right? what does he do? Isaiah: he's an alchemist mostly… {Cassandra looks shell shocked} Isaiah:  apparently he used to do a lot of traveling before I was born and he's best friends with the queen. Apparently she got him out of a lot of trouble when he was younger he won't talk about that though. brings up bad memories you know?  Miss Cass? {cut to Cassandra crying and looking shocked} Isaiah: Miss Cass? what's wrong? are you okay? { Cassandra looks over at him and wipes her tears away} Cassandra: Yeah... just something in my eye… Isaiah: I can tell you're lying trust me that's a line I always use. {Cassandra looks away from him} Cassandra: look all I'm going to say is... I know your dad... or rather I knew him. we were good friends once. Isaiah: really!? Cassandra: let me guess your dad's name is Varian? Isaiah: Yes!  my dad is Varian! when was the last time you two saw each other!? { Cassandra Shuffle uncomfortably} Cassandra: look kid...I’m kinda here for a reason...and it’s not... Isaiah: no yeah I totally get it!  hey you know what we're supposed to be visiting the capitol tomorrow!  why don't you come with me! you guys could see each other again! Cassandra: um kid I… Isaiah: please miss Cassandra? I'm sure it would make my dad really happy to see you again! {Cassandra look sadly at him and then back at the forest where the cult is waiting then back at him; Isaiah is looking up at her with hopeful eyes} Cassandra: alright... I'll meet you at the castle tomorrow….
Isaiah: that sounds great! I'll see you there tomorrow! I better return the Greatsword to my family's house before Grandpa realizes it's missing! Cassandra: *Chuckles*  yeah that would probably be a good idea… Isaiah: see you tomorrow miss Cass! and thank you! {her eyes flicker in color and pink magic crackles around her for a moment} Cassandra: Sorry little guy... you're not going to enjoy this at all... { cut to a giant barn where men are loading heavy sacks of grain  to store for the winter} Varian: If we follow this plan we should be able to keep enough grain to last us through winter... I've also put aside some seedlings to test on to see if we can come up with a better Harvest next year. Quirin:  good idea... and maybe we could…. Varian: dad? something wrong? Quirin:  slowly look over towards the northern border of the field... try not to make it obvious… { Varian does as he's told and sees a small group of people in armor trying to hide amongst the trees} Varian: I know those people... I know that armor...Noremoth... it's the cult… Quirin: you mean...that group you were fighting all those years ago? Varian: I thought they died out...they hadn’t made a move in years… Quirin:....I’ll gather the men. Tell them to gather their swords. Varian: don’t make any moves yet...Wheres my son? Quirin: he was out in the orchard. Varian: By himself!? They could have him already! Gather a search party! We need to-ah! {He turns around and Isaiah is right behind him} Varian: Isaiah! Oh, thank goodness! {he grabs him and checks him over} Varian: Isaiah did you see anyone? Did you speak to anyone? Isaiah: uhhh...no...why? Varian: We need to go to the castle! C’mon! Isaiah: Wait what!? Why!? Varian: Isaiah there are things I need to discuss with the queen and I want to keep an eye on you Isaiah: b-but dad- Varian: no buts Isaiah! In the wagon, now! Isaiah:...y-yes, sir... {Cassandra watches from the orchard and walks away with a sad but determined look; cut to Varian keeping the horse at a gallop through Corona’s main roads making people dodge} Isaiah: Ah!...D-dad slow down! You’re gonna hit, someone! Varian: sorry buddy no can do! {He gallops past the guard at the gate} Guard: what the-!? {he pulls the reins to stop the horse; he rushes out and grabs Isaiah and runs carrying him into the castle;  when he reaches the throne room he sets Isaiah down} Varian: Go find princess lily! Find her and both of you go to her room and lock the door! Don’t come out until I or the king or Queen come for you understand!? {Isaiah nods and runs away as Varian runs into the throne room; cut to the royal gardens} Isaiah: Lily? Lily!? Where are you? Lily: hmm? Isaiah: LILY!? {Lily gets up and jogs over from the bench she was reading on} Lily: what? Stop shouting! Isaiah: C’mon! We gotta go! {He pulls her hand} Lily: What why? What’s going on? Isaiah: I don’t know but I think the kingdom is under attack Lily: What!? Isaiah: my dad rushed us here and told me to protect you so come on! {They run through the garden heading to the main door but they hear running from behind} Isaiah: Quick into the bushes Lily! {He puts her in the bushes and picks up a thorned branch and hides; he waits for the person to get close enough before he jumps out and knocks their legs out from under them and points the branch at the once their down} Cassandra: nice job, kid... Isaiah: miss Cass? How did... how did you get here without the guards…? Cassandra: that doesn’t matter now...do you know where your dad is? Isaiah:... why? I thought we agreed we'd meet here tomorrow…? miss Cassandra what's going on? Cassandra: look Isaiah I don't have time!  I know I promised you before but things change… Isaiah:... what are you talking about? Why do you want to see my dad now if you were going to see him tomorrow? Cassandra:... just tell me where he is…I don’t want anyone to get hurt... Isaiah: I…!? {Varian, Eugene, Rapunzel, Lance, and Various guards burst into the courtyard pointing their weapons} Rapunzel: C-Cass? Varian: Cassandra? What? Eugene: Okay I'm confused I thought you said there was a threat… Varian: there was.. I'm sure of it I saw them on the northern border of old Corona! {Cassandra suddenly looks like she's in pain as she holds herself slightly; Noremoth watches from a ways away} Isaiah: M-Miss Cass? Are you okay? {Pink crackles of magic surround her and she grips under her head} Cassandra: please... no... not now… Rapunzel: Cass? { suddenly everything is deathly quiet and Cassandra looks up with pink irises and green scleras;  Varian’s eyes dilate in fear} Varian: no... {Cassandra grabs Isaiah and presses a dagger to his throat; cut to Noremoth and he looks visibly disturbed; cut back to cassandra} Isaiah: AH!...M-miss...Cass? I...I don’t Cassandra:  like I said kid plans change. {Varian begins to panic} Varian: Cassandra please don’t! Cassandra: listen here Varian... you have something that we need... and I think you know exactly what I'm talking about… { Varian puts his hand over one of his vest pockets} Cassandra: Bingo... and let me make this perfectly clear if you want your kid to live I’d just hand it over. Varian: Please Cassandra...he’s just a child...let him go… Rapunzel: Cassandra you don't understand what you've missed in the last couple of years Isaiah is a literally all that Varian has please let him go! Cassandra: Oh Thank you Rapunzel! you reminded me of something!  Here Varian!  I've been meaning to return this to you! { she tosses over Estelles necklace and burying catches it;  he begins visibly shaking} Varian: H-how did...how did you…? Cassandra:  let me ask you something there and did you lie to your son or did you seriously not know? Isaiah: Daddy what’s she talking about? Cassandra: Oh my gosh you really didn't know, did you?   let me tell you it wasn't easy especially that Duke... barreling out of the carriage like that attempting to protect her... it was actually kind of romantic that brings me to a question.  what was she doing with a necklace with your name on it and such a romantic message on the back? wasn't she already married to that Duke? oh my do I sense a scandal? {Varian looks up at her filled with rage} Varian: you...you killed her… {Isaiah looks shell shocked and confused} Isaiah: W-what? Cassandra:  yes indeed I did... we've been calling it a practice round if you will... I was quite new to this power that I now possess.  I needed to learn to control it however it appears I'm “unstable”  however I would have never been able to find that out if it weren't for the lovely duchess so thank you!  thank you for sending them my way. Varian: I’LL KILL YOU! Eugene: Varian trust me I get it but... Rapunzel: We need to keep our heads. Varian: She killed Estelle! I’ll destroy her! {Isaiah begins shaking and whimpering} Cassandra:  tell you what I'll make you a little deal... you give me the moonstone shard and I'll give you back your boy do we have a deal?
{Varian looks Isaiah in the eyes} Isaiah:...Daddy… {Varian reaches into his pocket and takes out a small vial with a glowing shard} Cassandra: Perfect...AH! {Cassandra lets go of Isaiah and falls in pain letting Isaiah run over to his father; it’s revealed an arrow has pierced her shoulder} Cassandra: What in the hell… {Cassandra looks over to see Adira with Princess Lily behind her} Cassandra: you know there are some people that are nice to see you again and then there's you… Lance: that’s my Lady! Woohoo! {Noremoth rushes in and stands between them} Eugene: Now who is this guy!? Varian: Noremoth… Noremoth: Varian you wretch… {he holds up a vial of something} Noremoth: Backup all of you!  if I drop this we all go up in smoke! Rapunzel: what do you want… Noremoth: I want to leave in peace rather than pieces... and I'm taking our vessel with me… Rapunzel:  her name is Cassandra! {Eugene holds her back} Noremoth: eh, tomato...tomato... The point is we are leaving and you will not stop us... understood {Everyone is silent as Noremoth helps Cassandra up and waves his glove, making a portal; the walk through it and leave} Varian: Isaiah are you okay!? {Isaiah sobs loudly into his Father’s chest} Rapunzel: Is he okay!? {Adira walks over and examines his neck} Adira: ...He has a slight cut on his neck but nothing that can't easily be healed. Varian: shhhh...Isaiah...I’m here...it’s okay. I’m here. Isaiah: D-daddy… Varian: shhh..oh baby boy….it’s okay… {Varian looks at the necklace in his hand and down at his son then at his friends before shedding a few tears himself} Varian:...It’s okay...We’re okay… {END CREDITS}
01 - just furubana things
This is not so much headcanons as it is that--much like I can't do mental math because the numbers don't remain pinned in place if they aren't literally, y'know, pinned in place with pencil on paper--I can't keep track of details and have zero concept of the passage of time without an actual timeline of events for myself.
So instead of using 20 scraps of paper I'm just dumping what I've accumulated here and calling it fic-adjacent and maybe adding in some headcanons as I go.
How the heck old is everybody anyway
?? - Hinata (according to my Fruits Basket timeline, she was born in March 2000, no clue how old she is now) ??? - Hibika (I have……...no clue……...I mean, since she was able to just run off to Paris at the drop of a hat, I'm assuming that means she's graduated high school??? But also she is the child of Ayame and Mine and is a Souma so like………….anything………..is possible……… I assume Hibika and Kinu are close-ish in age because they are good friends) In college - Kinu (what year though?? I'm guessing, since her plans aren't finalized, that it's still early. IDK if Michi asking her if college is fun is strictly for exposition, or implies that Kinu has just started her first year of college) 12th grade - Hajime, Michi 11th grade - Mutsuki 10th grade - Sawa, Sora, Riku 9th grade - Rio? Leo? I don't…...have my hands on volume 2 yet…….I don't know what they went with……… 8th grade - Chizuru 7th grade - Shiki (also these three are apparently all good friends and in the Go club together, I'm going to picture Akito having to have set up play-dates with Saki and Ayame when the kids were younger. I know technically Shigure could have done it since Aya is his bff but it's funnier if Akito has to) - somewhere in 9th to 7th grade are also Kou and Hajime's nameless little bro which is killing me, but idk what years ?? - Mina also ?? - Hajime's nameless and faceless little sis which is also killing me
Also! Who! Is that! With Sora in the New Year's bonus chapter of volume 1??? Is it someone we have met? Is it someone we haven't met? Is it some random person??? I don't think they particularly look like anyone listed above… (A part of me is kinda hoping…I mean, it looks kinda like Kakeru…I think it would be great if that was Kou. Michi looks like Komaki but acts like Kakeru, so if Kou acts like Michi he must look like Kakeru right??? THE POINT IS I want Kou to be at the fancy Souma New Year's because I want it to be true that Kakeru just becomes an honorary Souma attached to Yuki because it's inevitable and Akito just gives in and accepts it)
When I actually started writing down what was happening as I read…
sometime when people are bitty - the stairs incident
Day 1 of FBA - It's probably April 1st, it's the very first day of the school year and Sawa's actual first day of high school (although they've already had the entrance ceremony) - Sawa meets Mutsuki - Sawa takes her lunch outside before Amane can talk to her - Sawa meet-cutes Hajime by stepping on his face lol - Sawa doesn't get to talk to Mutuski (idk I guess he was gonna ask about her life and sneakily work around the topic about if she remembered the Souma family???) - Sawa runs over Hajime's little bro because she's so freaked out, and the little bro picks up the I.D. and gives it to Hajime, although like Hajime lives out of town and that's why he's living in the Souma house without his parents??? Because he lives too far out of town to attend that school??? So how did Sawa run over Hajime's little brother who is in middle school presumably out of town??? Did Hajime just grow up out of town and they moved back to Tokyo to inherit the dojo and Hajime was like "…….it's too far to walk to school I'm moving out" like Mutsuki did who is implied to live in town but just can't be arsed to walk that far???????
Day 2 of FBA - Sawa's second day of school - Hajime returns Sawa's I.D. on the way to school - Mutsuki appoints Sawa to the student council before she even arrives that morning - Ruriko comes in before classes start to confront Sawa about it and interrupts Amane's chance to ask Sawa out to lunch - Mutsuki is already texting Shiki - I guess the interludes might be that day??
Some time passes???
- Sawa flashes back to being introduced to the student council, and Mutsuki isn't wearing his sweater vest, so I assume this means it's a different day from Day 2, although it could be a typo
- The day that Ruriko has come to have lunch with Sawa to ~educate her~ that prompts Sawa to have the flashback, when Sawa later goes to student council we see Mutsuki in his sweater vest again so I assume this is once again a different day. That means it's been at least 4 days that Amane's been trying to ask Sawa out to lunch when Riku gets pissed about it.
The next day - Sawa is properly introduced to Riku and Sora, and then Sawa asks Amane out to lunch, yes I'm purposefully saying "asks out" every time, because I originally thought "Short black hair = Akito's child" and "I WANT TO SHIP THESE GAYS" and I want to treasure that feeling okay - Sawa punches out a cooler and meets Michi - SUKIYAKI PARTY - Sawa meets Kinu
The next day - Sawa was so happy about the sukiyaki party and her upcoming lunch date that she gets a fever and has to miss it noooo
And then after that Volume 2 jumps to early summer and I stopped keeping track
Miscellaneous stuff I wanted to keep in mind
I feel it's heavily implied that Shiki hasn't attended a family New Year's since The Knife Incident specifically. Which...really sucks for Shiki, that Akito has so strongly embraced the high road of "you can't pick your family you just have to deal, head of the family is my responsibility and I just have to deal", and even into the next generation a lot of the Souma family remains really toxic and that's the environment Shiki's growing up in. I assume Shiki's immediate household is not bad, but unfortunately it's right in the middle of a neighborhood of toxic assholes. Which is why, Mutsuki says, he wanted to get Shiki out beyond that environment and Sawa was super convenient for that among other reasons.
Hajime apparently grew up out of town, when Kyou and Tohru moved away so he could learn the dojo business from one of Kazuma's friends. This means Hajime and Mutsuki did not grow up together, which is sad, but according to Kinu they're still thick as thieves whenever they are together so that's really damn cute. The past year they've lived together is the longest visit they've ever had and like, Hajime helps out Mutsuki in the garden, Hajime--although insulting Mutsuki's lack of cooking ability--kind of implies that he does actually let Mutsuki help with the cooking when it's just them? Even when the results are probably worse than any time his little siblings tried to show Hajime they could totally help in the kitchen? Ughhhhh they're too cute.
I am presuming that both Mutsuki and Shiki live in town, and that's probably a large part of why they seem to be pretty close (closer than Shiki would like lol) despite the four-year age gap. I like to think it's also because Yuki also seemed pretty determined to Salvage Relationships, like with his mom, and so I like to presume that after the incidents of Fruits Basket Yuki informed Akito that they were going to reconnect as childhood bffs whether Akito liked it or not lol. So if Yuki and Akito are close, probably Mutsuki and Shiki are close too. And thus why Mutsuki is so concerned for Shiki's well-being and pushes really hard to set Fruits Basket Another in motion lol, like he's happy he's improving Sawa's life but his most immediate objective is Shiki's health and happiness. Like Shigure, only not an asshole and his plan is for everyone to win.
Yuki loves his son dearly and supports him so much but even so he's banned himself from Kaibara High School because he can't take Takei being so extra loooool I hope he sucks it up at least to come to graduation. Even though. Takei will--instead of talking about the graduates--okay he'll have talked a little about the graduates, namely Mutsuki--spend the entire graduation giving a speech to celebrate and congratulate and honor Yuki instead. As Yuki just sits there. Being stared at by all the other parents. With a long-dead smile on his "why is this happening to me" face. You know why this is happening, sir. But you came anyway to support your son. You are a good dad. Ganbatte. Have a drink afterward. (pray to anything you hold dear that your beloved child hasn't recorded this entire thing and sent it all the family including Akito who, surprise surprise, is also dying of secondhand embarrassment and doesn't appreciate this at all. Maybe Akito can take you drinking afterward.)
I will never be over the fact that the people closest to Yuki are all having multiple kids and there's Yuki and Machi like "ONE AND DONE." Why do they need to have another child after Mustuki? Mutsuki already has an older sibling in Michi, and possibly Hibika as well. And then Mutsuki even gets a little brother, Kou! And maybe Chizuru counts too! Like thanks for doing all the work for them of making Mutsuki not an only child. (They just…..didn't know what they'd get out of the Souma genetics grab-bag, and the idea of having to [have the housekeeper] clean up more sparkles was just…)
I'm revising my headcanon such that Hajime was the one who thought it would be cool to go to the same high school his parents did (because it's a theme, in FBA, about how it's cool to love your parents assuming they're, y'know, good parents who love you back, and thus how cute it is when kids are pleased to be like their parents), but unlike Mutsuki Hajime did not realize that as a ridiculously conventionally attractive Souma he would be a famous legacy student and if he had known this from the start he might have said "screw it" and just gone to school locally lol. Mutsuki on the other hand was fully aware of the shit he was getting into when Hajime first ventured the idea and Mutsuki embraced it. And then it all worked out perfect because it turned out Sawa would attend there too!
