#okay rant time lol. spoilers for 6x18 #i think i will have to say that this may have been my least favourite of all 6b episodes #haha ik i should probably give myself time to process the episode but idk i'd rather just write everything out #i just. just yesterday i was complaining about some people treating 911 like it's the buck show and today... it was the buck show? #and like! an episode being extra focused on one character is absolutely fine!! great even!! i really enjoyed 6x11!! #but in the season finale you expect each character to get a more equitable amount of focus right? #and like. even 4x14 which had a significantly less focus on eddie than one might expect had the will scene #and maddie had a bit less focus in that episode too but even she quit her job and it was obvious she was Going Through Stuff #and these slightly restricted screentimes gave jumping off points for their respective very spectacular s5 arcs #but this episode? like it wasn't that it didn't focus on other characters but it was mostly buck #and... idk man it does make sense given that he had the longest running plotlines this season but also #i just wish we had focused more on other characters as well #and like? as for buck? the couch? #i'll be honest i'm disappointed they introduced romance this season for buck at all when the season began with him choosing to be single #i really thought he wouldn't date at all for this one season at least yk? #and yeah ik we live in an amatonormative world but cmooon a guy can have his happy ending without getting together with someone #also bucktalia feels a little odd to me rn especially given the number of false starts they had #if they'd done this exact same storyline but at the beginning of next season i'd probably love it... right now tho i'm very meh over it #as in there is potential but it's like... idk mannnn why do we need him to end up with someone at allllll... i'm too aro for this shit #starting something new this close to the end of the season instead of tying off the two arcs that were already ongoing for him #was certainly a choice #aah well. at least natalia seems good for him. she came back which is the most important thing buck would want in a partner right? #still tho. i really wish we'd gotten to know more about the new henren baby than we did #i wish we'd gotten to see madney discussing plans instead of just the exact moment where they decide they want to marry on the patio #i wish we'd gotten the entire conversation that lead up to chris hyping (or snarking at) eddie to call marisol #i wish we'd gotten bathena hurriedly packing for their trip and may making fun of them as she helps #i just wish we'd gotten more of others!! #oh well. at least we still got chimney time and captain hen and cheddie working together and hen and eddie leaning on each other #you win some you lose some i guess #anyways if you actually read all the way til down here thank you for your time hehe

like yes yes eddie needs to choose and buck needs to be chosen but also 

Eddie needs to get over the very big trauma of losing his wife. Last time he dated someone he had literal panic attacks at the thought of her being mistaken for Chris’s mother and as much as we saw him work through in therapy we never?? really?? talked?? about?? that?? So, yeah, Eddie needs to realize that he’s at a point where he’s ready to risk his heart and give love a second chance 

(and maybe realize he already did becase there already is a partner in his life who gets consistently confused for Chris’s guardian and it feels natural to him?? but he still needs to realize he’s ready for love)

And Buck needs to be ready to be in a relationship where he’s loved for who he is, where he doesn’t bend and twist to fit someone else’s expectations. And for that Buck needed to die, and needed to come back, and now he needs to process that trauma and steady himself. 

(and Buck loves so quickly, so openly, so loudly, and he gives so much of himself and he wants to be loved that way, and maybe he’ll realize that he already?? is?? loved?? but he needs to let himself accept it)

so basically, it’s not only a matter of choice... eddie needs to be ready to love and buck needs to accept that he is loved if they are ever going to find each other properly together

and that, my funny little friends, is the point of their arcs were we are at right now

not to get all "actually☝️" about it but. the whole point of this is the fact that it isn't at all eddie's fault and buck just doesn't know how to properly process or recognize his feelings and know what he's missing *until* he gets presented with a specific situation. in truth buck has no right to be mad at eddie for building bonds with other ppl and it's why he has to do some introspection. this is not a "oh no poor buck eddie apologize to him!!!" thing, it's about buck getting, for lack of a better term, a good emotional humbling. eddie deserves good friendships and relationships, full stop. and if he likes the way he feels when he hangs out with tommy then great!! he's his own person and not a tool to further buck's character. but you also can't expect buck to immediately recognize that because, again, and for the millionth time, the whole POINT is that he doesn't. so if it has to get ugly and uncomfortable and embarrassing for him to do so then that is what will happen and that doesn't make either of them bad people. this is not a blame to be passing around. it's just them being human beings

another absence is the presence moment is actually the hardware store scene with bobby. as far as we know bobby's only ever been a firefighter, he's a legacy, his dad was a firefighter. so when eddie said that they needed help i assumed you know he'd go to evan "ymca barbie" buckley for help on construction, for help on christopher's homework because buck sits with chris and draws silly hearts and makes him skateboards and bakes cookies for his class and he worked in construction. but eddie asks bobby because a part of him wants to talk about his love life and he just doesn't feel comfortable discussing that one on one with buck.

The promo team making me rewatch the ending of 6x18 and Oliver saying the Natalia of it all getting dealt with early on has me over here thinking and hoping that we open to Buck showing off his newly delivered couch to Maddie or someone. He explains he chose it himself after he and Natalia had an argument in the couch shop about the right type of couch and that’s how he realised she didn’t really see him - so they split then and there and Buck finally chose his own couch and it didn’t come with a girlfriend!

it’s the way some people were headcanoning beforehand that eddie would be dead in the dream bc buck wasn’t there to save him from the sniper but the episode chose to focus on buck’s impact on eddie so early on the show instead and how all that almost mirrors the “you act like you’re expendable but you’re wrong” conversation. Bc ultimately it’s never been about buck saving eddie in the literal sense, it’s about the way he’s saved him just because he’s buck.
