Once I'm gone
Once i'm gone, if you wish to know a little more about me, you may read the books i've left behind. In them you'll find all the lives i've lived and all the characters i've known. You may find my mind in the form of my annotations, you may find my heart in the form of all the characters i've loved, you may find my happiness in the form of all the adventures and feelings those books hold, and you may find me in there too, because those books made me who i am, taught me what i know and shaped me into the person you know.
So once i'm gone, look for me in my other lives, look for me in my books. You'll find me there, reliving all my adventures in the form of memory. Because i've left a little bit of myself in every book i've ever read and i created a little bit of who i am with each one of those books as well.

I just read a fic called Bedlam. It's a really original story thats a mesh of transformers universe but mainly focuses on tfp. I doen't want to spoilt to much if you haven't read it but there is a 'soulmate' situation later in the story thats made in a very interesting and well written way. I was wondering if you have any plans for a future story that has a bot-human soulmate/sparkmate situation? I Like the thought that a con or bot find themself before a human and then realise that their 'other half',and the ramification that comewith the realization that other could be in simular situations .Also if you haven't read this fic I highly recommend it!
First I'm going to leave a link to the fic you mentioned in case that sounds like it's up anyone's alley. https://archiveofourown.org/works/39643506/chapters/99242037
Do I currently have plans to write a soulmate AU? No. But do I have a concept and a few notes written for a Transformer soulmate AU? Yes...
Full disclosure, soulmate/fated mate tropes are one of my least favorite romantic relationships to read in a story. But it is the fave of my best friend, who really wanted me to read her favorite series 'Ice Planet Barbarians' by Ruby Dixon, which is ALL fated mate pairings. So I do, and of course I immediately come up with an OC who just defies the soulmate premise, just fights and rages against it, refusing to let their freedom of choice be taken. And then I applied that concept to Transformers.
So, currently, I have the worldbuilding mapped out: TFP universe with a soulmate concept that I haven't seen in any other fics (but I don't read a lot of soulmateAUs, so maybe someone has). I have our friend group planned, and I know the kind of role I would want 'you' to play. And I know I'm going to lean heavily into the 'enemies to lovers' trope. I'd give more details, but I want to leave some for mystery. Right now, the idea is just sitting in a text doc, waiting for an ending (because I never move to phase 2 in my writing process until I come up with an ending)

Caro's July 2023 Book Rec Wrap Up
I can't believe this month is over. It's been rough out here, and I'm not feeling great still, but reading always offers a bit of respite.
I feel like my tastes were fairly varied this month. I loved dipping more into fantasy romance, and I really hope to see more of it published soon!
Tastes like Shakkar by Nisha Sharma. ARC; full review here
Marry Me by Midnight by Felicia Grossman. ARC; full review here.
The Winter King by C.L. Wilson.
Ugh, just an amazing book. Exactly what I want from a high fantasy romance: a fun world full of magic and court politics; a couple forced together by circumstance and distrusting one another while also being super attracted to each other; a powerful hero and a kickass heroine. High stakes! Passion! Twists and turns! There are ice powers in this, lightning powers, bangathons on a bearskin rug, the intense need for an Heir (otherwise known as: breeding vibes), the possibility that the hero might just throw the heroine out onto a glacier. People feel feelings and refuse to cop to them because trauma. I had so much fun. A must read. (As is The Sea King, but generally speaking I would say reading them in order is a good idea.)
We Could Be So Good by Cat Sebastian.
Cat Sebastian just does what she wants, and I appreciate that so much. How many historical romances are a) set in the 1950s and b) centered on a pair of opposite-personality male reporters living together (as friends!) after one of them gets dumped by his fiancee? There is so much fucking tension built between Nick and Andy. And so much fondness too, with practical Nick basically making sure that Andy doesn't trip and fall down a proverbial flight of stairs at any given moment. It's funny, it's a little angsty without being overwhelming, and it's so, so tender.
An Earl to Remember by Stacy Reid. ARC; full review here.
Servant to the Spidae by Ruby Dixon.
This is the fourth in Dixon's Aspects and Anchors series, and in many ways it's basically a novella, though she doesn't categorize it as such. It's closer to the length of her Ice Planet Barbarians books than the previous novels in this series, and it's basically a feel your feelings plotless love story about a former sex worker falling in love with the three creepy spider gods (very human-looking, but they.... shoot web...........) she's pledged herself to in service. It's a lot of sex, a lot of emotion, and while swords do not cross, there is a scene in which every hole is filled. It's what you want out of this kind of story (though I will say, I don't loooove how this series deals with Yulenna's status as a sex worker, and never have; it's not egregious, but it's clumsy).
The Making of a Highlander by Elisa Braden.
I love love love several of Braden's Rescued from Ruin (straight up English Regency, connected to this series) series, but I do think it went on for a bit too long and the heroines especially became repetitive. That's why I didn't rush to begin her Midnight in Scotland series. I am glad that I took the break, because I went into this fresh, and I found it so strong. It's funny, it's got just the right amount of angst, it's a bit bonkers, the hero is absolutely deranged for his heroine.. Like John Huxley is starving. It's what you want out of a lighter (but not too light) historical romance. Special shoutouts to a fabulous Pretty Woman homage, and one of the best "Oh I WANT her" realizations I've read in a long time.
The Taming of a Highlander by Elisa Braden.
Ugh, so good! I love a scarred hero, especially if he's a former golden boy, and this novel deals with Broderick's trauma and scars so well. It does take a little longer to get into the love story than the previous book, but once it kicks into gear, it really goes for the full nine yards. You have batshit shenanigans, a heroine who literally watches this man's erection get bigger and bigger through his pants while she talks about how many babies she's willing to give him, and mortal peril. This series gives such good Scotland content. Also? It's hilarious. The heroine literally bops into this guy's bedroom with breakfast singing a made-up song about his dick coming out to play. She's thrilled.
The Basilisk of Star Manor by Kathryn Moon.
I really liked this little novella, my first basilisk book. And I loved the heroine--a blind, virginal woman who's decided to become a sex worker for monsters. There is a lot of descriptive dirty talk, sensation play, orgasms on horseback... But it's all surprisingly sweet. I had a good time. Also, effective use of a monster tail!
The Temptation of a Highlander by Elisa Braden.
I am nothing if not a sucker for "Scottish Man Big" historicals, and this is nothing if not that. It may or may not be the first historical I've read wherein the heroine has a psycho stalker, and that does give way to an excellent bodyguard romance. Clarissa's inability to say anything without letting slip a double entendre is classic Elisa Braden hilarity, and while there are some quibbles I have with the story... It's just so old school, in a way. I mean, they have shared sex dreams. What's not to like about that?
The Wrong Guy by Kate Canterbary.
I feel like I'm the only person in the world who didn't love In a Jam, but this book was a total turn around for me. Snappy, snarky, super sexy contemporary enemies to lovers with a 39 year old heroine and a 42 year old hero. I mean... come on. The hate sex is legit, the feelings are even more so once they develop (and they don't develop instantly) and it feels like these are real people with flaws and dreams and pain and love. Also, she gets her period during one sex scene and he's like "what do you think I am??? A child???" and just. Goes to town.
One Season with the Duke by Addy Du Lac.
A fun, emotional, and super romantic interracial historical romance, and the rare friends to lovers book that works for me. I think this book's quality is a testament to why it is important to build a world within your historical romance. While I'm not a stickler for accuracy by any means, having the sense of the Scottish with this book really added to its overall sense of space and stakes. And ultimately, it was just heartwarming to see two people sort of brought together by necessity working to make a life with one another.
Since the Surrender by Julie Anne Long.
A rare book in which the couple knows each other because they cheated together while her husband was alive! Cheating is probably a strong-ish word--I mean, they did make out, but otherwise it was largely an emotional thing, and temptation. But it makes the beef real (because our hero actually super liked and respected said dead husband) when these two come back together, and the tension is thick. There's a bit of a mystery and a bit of an adventure, and ultimately two people desperately trying to convince themselves that they don't want to jump into bed together at a moment's notice. NICE.
A Lesson in Thorns by Sierra Simone.
I mean... Good God. Sierra is really making her own specific space in romance, and I respect it so fucking much. She knows what she's about, she's uncompromising in her vision, and she just goes balls to the wall. This is like... an occult... romance? Fantasy? Paranormal? Definitely super erotic, and not a little dark. Oh, and there's an orgy. And over half of our six-person group is made up of virgins (though uh, we're down to one virgin left standing by the end). It's intensely emotional and the ties that bind and the messages left unsaid are thick. I am fucking hooked, and a bit blown away.

Hello, I was wondering if you had recommendations for book series that u have read aside from sjm? I have read so many stand alones and they are great but nothing can beat a longer story!! (Unless the author takes the character and does a complete 180 twist to their personality … ahem…)
My favourite book series that I recommend to everybody is the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness. It's historical fantasy pitched at 12 year olds but one of the best series I've ever read. You can see what I'm reading on my instagram.
I do prefer series because I get attached to the characters but in the last couple of years I've mostly just caught up on reading. I had to read so many scientific journals for my degree that I basically read nothing else for four years then had massive life upheavals so I'm catching up on all the books I missed!
Series I liked:
Chronicles of Ancient Darkness - historical fantasy set in the middle stone age (children/early teen)
Percy Jackson - modern fantasy (children/early teen)
The Spook's Apprentice - historical fantasy (children/early teen) - the author just passed away last week :(
Caraval - young adult fantasy - magic/carnival theme
Cursebreakers - young adult fantasy - beauty and the beast retelling
The Grishaverse - young adult fantasy - a few different series set in the same universe
The Witcher books - adult fantasy
Game of Thrones - adult, political historical fantasy (one of my favourite characters in the books never appears in the show, so I guess he's not important to the plot after all, welp)
Blood and Ash series - adult historical fantasy - ongoing
Ice Planet Barbarians - adult sci-fi/fantasy
I have a few Brandon Sanderson books on my shelf that my friend has given me to read that are supposed to be v good and he has many different series. I also liked Realm Breaker of which book 2 has just been released (haven't read it yet), and Crescent City which has 2 books so far.
I also have sooo many Discworld books which are amazing by Terry Pratchett. They're very funny and all exist in the same universe, but lots of them feel like standalones. There are a few characters that pop up in many of the books.
Standalones I loved:
The Kite Runner
Alif the Unseen
The Binding
The Hangman's Daughter
We Have Always Lived in the Castle
The Book of Hidden Things (this book still haunts me after like 4 years)
Year of the Reaper
The Left Handed Book Sellers of London
Neverwhere

April Reading Log
Well, we're sorta out of our reading slump but we're liking novellas right now.
Love and Protect Revelry The Protector Better Off Bunny Mute Logan Table Barbarian Lover Barbarian Mine One to Hold Bear You Belong Falling for the Veterinarian A is for Aiden B is for Brett F is for Finn G is for Gerry Athica Lane His Curvy Rejected Mate The Monster's Den
Not going to lie, half of these I forgot already.
I ventured into the Ice Planet Barbarians finally and I'm a little sad only two of the descriptions actually grabbed my attention.
The Alphabet Mountain series isn't bad, but good GOD I need this writer to do her research. I'm currently on crutches for the sixth time in my life. I'm damn good on them. I can do the Time Warp. She's got characters doing things that are impossible and somehow the legal system is apparently faster than the human body healing.
Falling for the Veterinarian made me scream and not in a good way. The average person knows three real estate agents. How did you not have one who could tell you THATS NOT HOW REAL ESTATE WORKS?
The Protector is the like the best third person romance book I've ever read.
I was so excited for Athica Lane and then the big reveal was the bad guy was bi-polar. Yeah, well bitch, so's my best friend, and now I'm not sure I'm ever reading another one of your books because that shit is dangerous.
His Curvy Rejected Mate: Damn if Cate C Wells hasn't done it again. AMAZING.
Better Off Bunny was SPECTACULAR. 10/10.
Mute was shockingly great.
The Monster's Den was good but would have been better as a trilogy, major rushing.

Ooooo I love history! Fun fact about me: that was my original major in college. I always loved it because history is just stories. I love projecting into that time period and feeling and thinking about how that must be. I used to love history channel (when they used to do history programming) and they had a show called Battles BC that was so fucking cool. There’s also a YouTube channel I like that’s about like cooking food and dishes from different time periods.
😱omg that’s so cool, I love history and seeing how everything connects and the context of the past and how it leads us to today. What form of history were you majoring in? Or was it just a general study of history or did you have a focus?
And history was my best subject in school, I sucked at math / science but I could write the f*$k out of a history paper. And the history channel was my jam, ancient egypt, ancient rome, WWI and WWII etc always fascinated me. I always knew I had past lives so whatever intrigued me I would study it. I feel like I find past pieces of home.
And I think I know the YT channel you’re talking about, is it Max Miller? It’s such a unique way to learn about history. I just watched this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMWrk_94L8Y
This channel I like a lot https://www.youtube.com/@BBCArchive and I go to this website a lot https://archive.org and dig around.
Anyway! What’s you’re favorite book ever? Mine is a thousand splendid suns. I love that book so much.
Ohh I have to check it out, for me I’ll always hold near and dear is Because of Winn-Dixie.
I also love dark erotica lol.
https://media.giphy.com/media/IbBq9Xn0qe9VUYsiEx/giphy.gif
Did you see the one book series going viral on TikTok? The ice planet thing?
It was only my first year so I didn’t get too deep into it. That’s part of why I want to travel. I love history and culture and have an insatiable curiosity and restlessness. But my college class was all about history till I think 1300, so lots of Charlemagne. I love the American Civil War to study. Just because I find it fascinating. I read all of Gone With the Wind, but I don’t romanticize the antebellum south, just find it fascinating psychologically ya know? Like I can’t imagine the mental gymnastics you have to do to own a human and be okay with it. But I want to know more world history than I do. I love all the ancient time periods too—Egypt, Greece, Rome.
I have been saying for awhile that I’m a why person. There are how (science and math) and why (English history) people. The only math I’m good at is money math :) Yes Max Miller! I agree because I’ve always wondered how people ate and just like their day to day fascinates me.
I saw that movie with Anna Sophia-Robb! It’s Khaled Hosseini and he wrote the Kite Runner too. I’ve read most of his books. And yes! My friend told me to check it out sometime last year. Ice Planet Barbarians. Some of my fav dark erotica is on kindle and I can just get sucked in. Escapism is what carried me through my depression and the pandemic. I like them because sometimes I like things that make me feel that magic of love, despite the odds. I kept track of all the ones I read and can share if you want. But if I share I will have to rant about the term reverse haram.

Thoughts: I realize this is an obscene amount of books to read in a month, especially since this is the largest number of books I’ve ever read in a month and it happened in the shortest month of the year. I noticed early on that I was on track to finish one book a day and leaned into that. Plus, I’ve really been going through it, and audiobooks are my escape.
A standout of the month was Love & Saffron. It’s an epistolary tale of two long-distance friends that will make you tear up. I also finally read Time’s Convert. Not sure why it took me so long to get to it since I loved the All Souls series, but I’m glad I finally got to it. The history pieces piqued my interest in the Marquis de Lafayette, which led to me reading Lafayette in the Somewhat United States. This book was just as charming as Vowell’s others.

I grew up reading your TT fanfics and always find myself going back to them, even years and years later! So first off, thank you for giving me the Raven content I needed when the series was suddenly cancelled 😊 I was curious what romance novels would you recommend? Trashy, feel-good, fun, naughty — anything goes!
Oh. Oh, friend. You do not want to go down that rabbit hole with me. I read, on average, between 4 - 7 romance books a month.
But, since you asked...
Dragonkin Series from G A Aiken - if you like hot and horny and sarcastically witty dragon shifters. Plus, her world building is so good. Like yes, the romance is top-notch, but also the fantasy story she weaves is so intriguing and it's by far one of my favorite fantasy stories, but with real, genuine porn in it too.
Anything from Presley Hall - she writes mostly alien/sci-fi romance. She has... three series now? They all take place kind of in the same universe, but I'm very fond of her Voxeran stories. I'm waiting for the next one to come out.
Fire's Edge and Inferno Rising from Abigail Owen. It's kind of a long series about familial groups of dragon shifters.
Ice Planet Barbarians from Ruby Dixon. I'm pretty sure I was drunk when I bought the first book because the title is ridiculous, but I ended up devouring most of the series (before my free trial of Kindle Unlimited ended). Her writing really develops between each books in the series, and she's got a few other stand-alone books in the same universe that are just great.
Cara Bristol has a few series she writes. They're pretty quick, easy reads, and you enjoy the time spent with the characters. They're not blow you out of the water, but they're genuinely enjoyable.
Nadine Mutas has a witches series that feels a bit like I'm reading a New Adult novel. It's cute and fun, and easy to get into. I think I read the whole series in a week. To Seduce a Witch's Heart was just fun, and silly at times.
Bec McMaster has a few series that are really quite good. There's a sort of steampunk, high-society, Victorian series with werewolves that's my favorite. And a gaslight magic one that's top-notch. I really enjoyed reading her work.
Dark Protector series from Rebecca Zanetti. It's a solid modern vampire series.
Soulless by Gail Carriger. Technically more of a steampunk book and less of a romance, but it's such a great novel with great tension between the the two main characters that it's just one of my favorites.
Nalini Singh's Archangels series is great. Also not really a romance as much as a series of books that circle the contention between Archangels and Humans, but still quite good.
Red Phoenix's Brie and the Art of Submission is just ridiculous and over the top, but I think it was one of the first erotica series I read that I just genuinely kind of enjoyed. It's not great and sometimes it's just dumb, but it's actually very sexy and fun.
And I used to read a ton of Christine Feehan (I'm a fan of her Dark series, with the Carpathian Vampires), and Gena Showalter.
I’m currently reading some kind of good, but bordering on ridiculous Steampunk romance right now called Iron Dominance, by Cari Silverwood. Will I read the other books? I don’t know. But this book is not bad.
I also love a good regency bodice ripper, but they all kinda tend to be about the same for me. Enjoyable, and a fun way to pass the time, but there isn't any that stand out right away as the best book I've ever read.
This is by no means an exhaustive list. I've been reading romance books for a solid twenty years, and there are also a ton of books that I just genuinely enjoyed reading, but might not have been anything that stuck with me in my head for very long. I was trying to go through my Kindle and Hoopla and Overdrive to see if any of them sparked a memory, but they really didn't. Ultimately, I'll give anything a chance for about 50 - 100 pages. And there have been some great books that I read once, and never really thought about after.
There have also been some terrible mishaps.

Fanfics With Epic Worldbuilding
This reddit thread got me thinking about epic fics that take canon and expand it in incredible, thoughtful ways-- some that seem seamless, and like they could be canon if the creators had gone in another direction, and also alternate universes with very cool canon integration. So. On that note. Here’s some of my absolute favorites. (And feel free to let me know some of yours.)
(More rec lists here)
The Changeling & Armistice, by @annerbhp | Harry Potter | 180k, 320k  Ginny is sorted into Slytherin. It takes her seven years to figure out why.
This is the best take on Slytherin house, and especially women in Slytherin house, that I’ve ever seen. Features: traditions, mythology, history and types of magic that aren’t part of the canon universe but feel like they should be. (And a cast of wonderful original or almost-original characters.)
A Curious Carriage of Crystal and Cold by @etharei | X-Men | 115k  Charles, a miner from a poor village in the countryside, saves the life of Erik Lehnsherr, scion of a successful business family and the richest man on the planet Eisen. Charles is a telepath and somewhat anxious about it, while Erik abstains from relationships because the lights flicker and doors open and electronics vibrate when he gets too excited. Also featuring a long-suffering sister, a foul-mouthed bodyguard, and a best friend with a heart that is definitely not gold.In which there are princes, spaceships, long journeys, and old secrets uncovered
This is just. A whole sci-fi world. Class structure, different forms of etiquette, government structure, real history, fake history, and practical considerations about toilets in space.
The Eden!Verse, by @improbabledreams900 | Good Omens | 550k  Picking up where canon leaves off, [the] Eden!verse chronicles Aziraphale & Crowley's adventures through great losses, gains, and life's cosmic curveballs. From a village on Earth to Heaven, Hell, and Eden itself, Aziraphale and Crowley make many new friends, learn God's plan for them, and discover what it means to love each other.
The first fic in this series is relatively self contained, but by the second one it’s exploring heaven, expanding on biblical canon and the laws and hierarchy of angels, and weaving lots of different theological and mathmatical theories together. The plotting is so good it makes me want to cry. Also, the original characters are fantastic.
Home Out in the Wind by @bomberqueen17 | Star Wars (Sequel Series) | 320k Poe gave up a lot of things when he defected to the Resistance, but there's always more to lose. War is an expensive lifestyle. You've got to keep your affairs in order and do the best you can with what you have. He owes this former Stormtrooper a life-debt, and beyond that he knows the kid's exceptional, so he's going to do everything he can to get the kid a fair start in this messy business. Finn wakes up and has no idea what to do beyond joining the Resistance, but he knows he’s got to keep up with Poe somehow.
Dameron family history! Lore, history and culture that’s so well integrated that I had to do some Googling to make sure it wasn’t already Star Wars canon! Other planets! Drugs! Songs! Original characters I would pledge loyalty to forever! The most well-developed OT3 I’ve seen in this fandom! (There’s also a second series, The Lost Kings, about Shara and Kes.)
The Lay of Looking-Glass Land by KL_Morgan | The 100 | 175K Clarke wakes up wearing the tattoos of the Ice Nation. (OR: Soulmates, parallel worlds, and Ice Queen Clarke; oh my. Canon divergent from 2x16.)
Intricate! Rituals! Grounder lore and mythology! And a wonderful what-if ‘verse being explored more in the sequel.
Pantheon, by Yahtzee | X-Men | 130k  In the year 96 AD, all Rome is aware that their gods have begun to Mark certain people with their gifts -- the healing power of Apollo, the metal control of Vulcan, the deathly touch of Pluto, or the mental powers of Minerva. When those gifts fall to slaves or barbarians instead of the Romans themselves, strict control is necessary. Then a gladiator from Judea meets an enslaved scribe from Britannia, and the repercussions will shake the Empire itself.
An amazing integration of X-Men canon into Roman mythology and life, re-imagining of mutations, and epic scale. You could make a religion out of this.
Honorable Mention:
All Things Shining by Askance and Standbyme | Supernatural | 140k  Something in the world is waking up.It isn’t long before it’s brought to the attention of the Winchesters and Castiel: miracles are spreading across the country, the paranormal seems to be shrinking back on itself—and it all has something to do with the missing prayer book of a traveling preacher who died over a century ago. Dean is convinced it’s all the lead-up to another Apocalypse; Sam and Castiel aren’t so sure. Regardless, it sends them out on a less-than-typical road-trip, following the Mississippi and remnants of a very old story that seems increasingly to call to them. And along the way the trio learn much more about themselves—and the consequences and origins of love—than they’d ever have anticipated.
I last read this fic in 2013, but I remember loving the religion that it created. It’s got a lovely fairytale/folklore vibe. And a mythological crack ship that’s... strangely beautiful. Putting it in the honorable mentions because I don’t remember how it ends.
Redemption Road by multiple authors | Supernatural | 650k  Redemption Road is a fan-generated, large-scale AU project created by members of the SPN and Dean/Castiel fandoms.
This is another one I read once in 2013, but it also had some pretty spectacular expansions of Supernatural mythology, and lovable original characters. It’s set up like a season, with episodes and subplots.

REREADS
The entire Pucked series by Helena Hunting. I kept saying that I’ve been wanting to reread this whole series – and I finally did! This time around I realized how much more I liked Book 6 than before! Book 5 is still my all-time favorite, but Book 6 is up there with Book 1 and Book 5 now! Goodreads
  REREADS
Beach Read by Emily Henry This is absolutely adorable and I’m loving it so much! I’m hoping to finish this one today. It’s a romance about two authors in neighboring beach house that have some history. One is a romance writer and one is a literary fiction author. Goodreads
Fire In His Blood by Ruby Dixon This is a dragon shifter, post-apocalyptic fantasy romance by the author of Ice Planet Barbarians. I like IPB better so far, but this one has a lot of potential. Goodreads
1 secret book!
  DNF
Jock Row (Jock Hard #1) by Sara Ney The main character in this book was SO annoying and I could not stand it. She gets kicked out of a frat party for basically being super annoying and holier than thou. I don’t think you are supposed to agree with the frat guys who kick her out, but I certainly did. It’s a romance between her and the athlete who has to guard her from coming back into the party. She was the worst and I couldn’t take it anymore, so I DNFd it. I don’t see myself picking this up again.
Goodreads
  ★★ 2 STARS
January (Calendar Girls #1) by Audrey Carlan This is about a girl who becomes an escort to make enough money to save her father from gambling debt. The main character was the “not like other girls” girl and I couldn’t handle how judgey she was. The hero is ok, but his character wasn’t well developed. Goodreads
  ★★★ 3 Stars
Menace (Scarlet Scars #1) by JM Darhower This is a scarred hero dark mafia romance. Check out my Spring Break Wrap Up to see my thoughts. Goodreads
Fighting for Everything (Warrior Fight Club #1) by Laura Kaye This is a military, friends-to-lovers romance. Check out my Spring Break Wrap Up to see my thoughts. Goodreads
Assigned a Mate (Interstellar Brides Program #1) by Grace Goodwin This is, essentially, an alien mail order bride romance. Check out my Spring Break Wrap Up to see my thoughts. Goodreads
Hard Hitter (Brooklyn Bruisers #2) by Sarina Bowen This is a contemporary hockey romance. This was fine. I didn’t find the hero very likable, even though I tend to like grumpy heroes and the heroine was pretty forgettable. Coming off of the high of Brooklynaire, not much could compare, though, so I can’t fault it for that. I really do like this series so far and plan on continuing. Goodreads
The Loner’s Lady by Jessa Kane I read this short novella for Smutathon. This is about a girl who is pretending to be her best friend’s girlfriend, but she ends up falling for his dad instead. This just was a little too extra for me. I felt like everything was rushed and ridiculous. Granted, that’s kind of the nature of this type of book, but Katee Robert has already proved to me it can be done well. Unfortunately, this wasn’t a good example of that. Goodreads
I Dare You by Ilsa Madden-Mills I read this for Smutathon because it was a short audiobook I found on Audible Escape. This book was fine, but not very memorable. It actually has a cute premise, it’s a new adult sports romance about a girl who develops a relationship with someone who text her from an unknown number. Goodreads
  ★★★★ 4 Stars
Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter This is a thriller following the story of a woman whose sister had gone missing years ago and present-day disappearances that are affecting her. I feel weird rating this highly only because it’s so graphic and gruesome and entirely messed up. But I could not stop reading this book. I really need to read more thrillers. Goodreads
The Year We Fell Down (The Ivy Years #1) by Sarina Bowen This is new adult friends-to-lovers sports romance with disability rep. I talk more about this in my Spring Break Wrap Up. Goodreads
Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett This was an adorable friends-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers YA Contemporary romance that involves camping and forced togetherness. I talk more about this in my Spring Break Wrap Up. Goodreads
Pipe Dreams (Brooklyn Bruisers #3) by Sarina Bowen This is the same hockey romance series as Pipe Dreams. I actually read this series out of order, I read the first book first, but then I skipped ahead to Brooklynaire, and ended up going back to this one. I didn’t mind that, though, mostly because this book takes place during the same timeline as Brooklynaire, but you get a different perspective. This one is a second-chance romance that was a little hard to swallow, in my opinon, which is why I took away a star. Goodreads
Cherish Hard (Hard Hitters #1) by Nalini Singh This is a second chance contemporary romance that had a really great meetcute and such a good book boyfriend. I talk more about this in my Spring Break Wrap Up. Goodreads
Inappropriate by Vi Keeland This is a story about a woman whose vacation video gets leaked to her boss, which gets her fired. It’s obviously not fair at all, so in a drunken rage she sends a hate-email to her boss’s boss. And so begins our story. I read this one completely on a whim. I saw in it my wish list for Audible Escape, and decided to give it a shot. I’ve never loved anything by this author, but I’ve never strongly disliked anything either. This one I definitely liked more than other books I’ve read by her, but it wasn’t quite 5 stars. What I did really enjoy was that there was much more to this book than you would expect given the premise. It was more emotional than I anticipated. Goodreads
The Happy Ever After Playlist (The Friend Zone #2) by Abby Jimenez This takes place in the same world as The Friend Zone, only this time we are following the friend of the heroine in that book. I don’t really want to say more because I feel like it is spoilery to The Friend Zone, just know there is a rockstar element in this book. I think I am one of the only people who really liked The Friend Zone. I completely understand the issues many readers had with the ending of that book, but I still really, really liked it. In fact, I liked The Friend Zone more than this one (I gave that one 5 stars). I’m not going to lie, I thought I was going to adore this book and though I really liked it, I didn’t love it. Goodreads
Theirs for the Night (The Thalanian Dynasty #1) by Katee Robert This is an MMF romance about a girl who goes out to a club with her friend on her birthday and ends up going home with two guys – who happen to be a prince and his bodyguard. This was the group read for Smutathon. As usual, I think Katee Robert does such a great job with super steamy, short romances. I really like this one, though maybe not as much as I liked Your Dad Will Do. I think i’m going to enjoy the rest of this series a little bit more than I liked this one. Goodreads
Better When It Hurts (Stripped #2) by Skye Warren I decided to read this book for Smutathon because it was on Audible Escape and super short. It’s a gritty stripper romance. I’ve been wanting to read more Skye Warren books, and though this wasn’t my favorite, I definitely want to read more of her books. Goodreads
  ★★★★ 5 Stars
House of Earth and Blood (Crescent City #1) by Sarah J Mass This is SJM’s first adult fantasy novel – it’s full of pretty much every type of fantasy creatures including angels and faeries. I talk more about this in my Spring Break Wrap Up. Goodreads
Art & Soul by Brittainy C Cherry This is a YA romance between a musician and an artist who have to work on a school project together. I talk more about this in my Spring Break Wrap Up. Goodreads
Misconduct by Penelope Douglas This is a forbidden romance between a teacher and her student’s father. I talk more about this in my Spring Break Wrap Up. Goodreads
Brooklynaire (Brooklyn #1, Brooklyn Bruisers #4) by Sarina Bowen I have no idea what series this book belongs to because it takes place in the same world as Brooklyn Bruisers and in some places it is listed as part of that series and others it is listed as the Brooklyn Series. Either way it can be read as a standalone. It follows the story of a quirky millionaire who owns an Apple-like tech company and a hockey team. It’s a friends-to-lovers workplace romance with so much longing and swoon, I can’t even. I’m so in love with the hero in this book and how much he pines after the heroine without her ever knowing. Goodreads
By the Book by Amanda Sellet This was an ARC from Netgalley. It’s a YA contemporary romance about a girl who reads a lot of classic and historical novels and creates a scoundrel survival guide for the girls at her school based on the books she’s read. It was super cute, but written in a very particular way that may not appeal to everyone – review to come! Goodreads
Your Dad Will Do (A Touch of Taboo #1) by Katee Robert This was a highly anticipated read for me ever since I saw that Katee Robert was planning to release it and it lived up to what I hoped for it. This is a super short, super smutty, super taboo romance about a girl whose fiance cheats on her, so in revenge she sleeps with his dad. A lot of people say this one lacks plot, but they still really liked it, and I don’t disagree, but I also didn’t mind. I had so much fun reading this one and it made me fall even more in love with Katee Robert. Goodreads
The Butterfly Project by Emma Scott This book was recommended to me by a subscriber friend, Taseen, in the comments of one of my videos and I feel like you guys know me so well, because I loved this freaking book. I did not realize that this is about a character I loved from the Full Tilt duet. She’s a tattoo artist who is trying to publish a graphic novel that is very personal to her and when she gets rejected she almost leaves New York, but ultimately ends up staying when she’s able to become roommates with our hero. They have an adorable meet cute and omggg the hero in this book. He’s one of those characters who is such a good person who is put in bad situations. Both of our characters are dealing with guilt from their pasts, but slowly healing together. I’m kind of obsessed with him, he’s one of my favorite book boyfriends. Goodreads
Wolfsong (Green Creek #1) by TJ Klune I knew I was going to love this book, but I didn’t know how hard I would swoon. For some reason, I don’t know why I expected that this book wouldn’t be as romance heavy as it was. I think maybe because it’s about werewolves and I figured it’d be more about that than the romance and while the world was well-developed, the characters were well-developed, and the plot was interesting, the romance was also extremely strong. I feel like a lot of the time you’re sacrificing one thing for another, but it truly felt like this book didn’t lag behind in any of those things. Even the writing was excellent.
But honestly, it was the swoon in this book that tipped me over the edge. My heart hurt in the best and worst ways while reading this book and I can’t get enough.
