Lets pretend im well versed in in writing requests <<im not>>
💜COME ON IDIA YOU ARE GOING TO THE OCEAN (Choose wether you want to write it platonic or romantic)
~ setting - reader teams up with the tweels to get him to see the sun and enjoy the day <<hes hiding under the the umbrella with his switch>> (At the beach!)
Its kinda a school trip! surprisingly nice for it being funded by the school too maybe because kalim and Idia are there. The resort is close to the beach and they were able to walk there!!
OR!! I had two ideas and I wanted to let you choose!! so just stick to one!!
💖🧡 The airport is not that bad.. (mr mcsocialanxiety is the comforted, can't blame him airports are scary as hell)
~ setting - all the fun of getting through security, waiting for the plane (and probably eating and grabbing more snacks) and getting on the plane and finally settling in!! (rich boy got first class cause he would have a heart attack sitting by anyone that he didn't know)
definitely think that is his first time being in an airport and on a normal plane and not being personally shuttled around by a styx vehicle
Im so sorry if I gave you a heart attack with all the words!!! Sorry if the last one isnt too vaction-y kinda thought of it while i was writing the first one

"Come on, big brother!"
You looked over to your right and saw Ortho hovering underneath a large umbrella propped up in the sand. Idia was sitting cross-legged with his sweater unzipped, slouching as he played on his switch while Ortho was attempting to convince him to come out from under it.
"Please?" Ortho pleaded desperately. Kalim, who had just come back from splashing around in the waves, ran up to you with a big smile on his face. "Y/N, do you want to come swimming with me?" He asked. "The water's nice and cold!"
You couldn't help but smile back. "In a minute, Kalim. I'm going head over to Ortho and Idia for a second." You said, standing up. "Hm?" Kalim looked over at the flame-haired brothers with a curious look. "Are they not going to swim either?"
"I don't think Idia even wants to come out from under that umbrella, let alone go swimming." You said dryly. "Though I'm curious what would happen if their hair got wet. Since you know, it's fire."
"I'm curious about that as well, actually," Jade spoke up from behind you, causing you and Kalim to both jump and spin around in surprise. Floyd, who was standing behind his brother, had a devious smirk on his face. "Oh, my apologies. I didn't mean to scare you two." Jade said.
"It's fine!" Kalim said cheerfully, then added, "But I wouldn't want to embarrass them both by splashing water on their heads!"
You nodded in agreement. "Yeah... we are kinda lucky that Ortho managed to drag Idia along in the first place. Plus, since Ortho's basically a robot, wouldn't the water damage him since he's almost all mechanical?"
Jade thought for a moment. "I guess you both make valid points. Maybe we should simply help Ortho get Idia off that electronic of his and get some sunlight."
"Awww, boring! I'm going back out there!" Floyd huffed, indicating to the water. He scowled and stomped back to the shallow water, making his way further out. Jade chuckled. "Despite his age, he still acts similar to when he was a little mereel."
"I bet you two were so cute as little eels!" Kalim exclaimed. You were a little dubious about that statement but simply nodded. Jade smiled. "Thank you. Now then, I believe Ortho needs our assistance." You and Kalim nodded.
You led the way over to the rainbow umbrella, where Ortho was still trying to convince Idia. "Go out in the sun? And get sunburned? Nuh-uh, no way. Besides, I have to guard this so it doesn't get stolen." Idia said, holding up the switch. Ortho had a frown on his face and he made a movement similar to stomping his foot in the air, his hands momentarily clenching into fists.
"This was supposed to be a fun trip but all you're doing is sitting here on that instead!" Ortho exclaimed, pouting. Then he saw you approach and swiftly flew over to you, grappling you into a hug. "Y/NNN, Idia doesn't want to hang out with me!"
"That's a low blow, dragging Y/N into this." Idia said. You walked over and snatched the switch from his hands. "He wouldn't have to if you weren't just sitting here on this."
"Hey!" Idia complained, trying to grab it back. You handed the switch to Jade, who was smiling rather sadistically. Idia crossed his arms, looking mad, but he wasn't about to try to get his switch back from Jade.
"Alright, up. We're here on vacation and we're at the beach. You can take ten minutes away from that thing to spend some time with your brother. Can't you see that he really wants to hang out with you?" You indicated to Ortho, who was hovering beside Kalim with a pleading look on his face.
Idia hesitated, but eventually relented with an exasperated sigh. "Fine...." He muttered. Ortho and Kalim cheered and Jade handed the switch back to you. You removed your hoodie from your waist and wrapped the electronic inside of it, then placed it under the umbrella.
"See? Now it won't get stolen. Now c'mon!" You said, grabbing his arm and pulling him out into the sun. Idia was still mumbling angrily, but he gave a small smile when Ortho hovered over to him and said, "Come on, big bro! Let's have a sand castle contest!"
"Ooo, I'll join in too! Y/N, you're on my team!" Kalim said excitedly, looping his arm with yours. Jade chuckled. "Let me go retrieve Floyd. I'll be right back." He said, walking away.
"Let's go find a good spot to hold the contest." Kalim said, dragging you along while the Shroud brothers followed. After a few minutes, you found a decently flat area. "Here should work." You said.
"This is such a normie thing to do..." You heard Idia mutter. "Oh, cheer up, big brother! We're gonna win this contest and be the best sand castle makers ever!" Ortho butt in, doing a spin in the air.
"You're gonna be eating those words, Sea Angel!" Floyd laughed, a devious smirk on his face. He and Jade were back from the sea, both looking pretty confident.
"Oh yeah? We'll see about that! Come on, Ortho, let's show 'em who they're messing with." Idia said, now seeming to have no qualms with the contest. He and Ortho high-fived.
The pairs of brothers both got to work and you and Kalim exchanged a glance. "I didn't think they'd get so competitive about a sand castle competition." You said quietly. Kalim giggled. "Well, let's just focus on having fun! That's what this vacation is all about, right?"

okay i've been curious about ultrakill can ya sell me on it (if you're in the mood to ramble)
the beginning of the game offers you all the context you need to know; mankind is dead, blood is fuel, & hell is full. youre a robot with the model name 'V1' currently approaching hell in an effort to get the fuel you need. (blood is also used as a healing mechanic!) i'd say more, but seeing how things go down & figuring out the lore as you go is one of the things that made me really enjoy my time with the game.
it's an fps with a shit ton of weapons and movement mechanics that (despite how stressful it may be at first) come into play very well once you learn how everything works in part with one another. even if you don't get a good grasp on it, there are accessibility settings for everyone. difficulty settings, auto-aim, & a cheat mode really help! (do know that major assists will not let you achieve a perfect rank on levels. this doesn't include difficulty or auto-aim though) it's a really tough game when you first play, so expect to use at least one of these things.
the soundtrack for the game really heightens the experience & makes you feel so much.?!??!? the ost isn't for everyone, but i never enjoyed breakcore before i played this game so i suppose its worth a shot, even if you don't think much of it at first. going through the game & understanding some of the lore before coming back to the ost for another listen really changes a lot of things about it. the characters are really cool & with the way the story is going thus far, i'm. unnecessarily excited for future updates. there's still one more act in production along with a few more secret levels. so if you do end up playing the game and want more, (aside from the huge replay-ability the game offers) there is more to come! the fanbase is also surprisingly very nice. knowing my followerbase i should probably mention that this game has a quite a bit of homoeroticism if you look at a certain fight from a specific angle. im not gonna say anything though
ultrakill isn't a huge game, so don't go in with extremely high expectations, as again this game probably isn't for everyone. but as someone who hasn't played any fps before, i really, really enjoyed this game. it has a very serious tone, but there's tons of funny secrets that make it feel a lot more lighthearted at times. the devs put their whole heart and soul into this shit & the community is growing really fast! if youre thinking about getting the game, go for it. thy end is now!

THE JOY OF SCIENCE
"The Joy of Science" with Professor Jim Al-Khalili by Bridging the Gaps: A Portal for Curious Minds (soundcloud.com)
There are so many question  people ask about science and this is not because people  ask a lot of questions it's the nature for human desire to have in depth understanding retaliating to questions, the expeditious root of science can be sketched to Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia in around 3000 to 1200 BCE, Science is a comprehensive discipline and there are so many approaches to it, Even at it's comprehensive level people think its a collection of facts which can be applied in different fields of study, the Joy of Science makes us understand science is a process of thinking, acquiring and gaining knowledge.           Jim Al Khalili an Iraqi-British physicist gave an instant glance on the topic "The Joy of Science'' i was flabbergasted at the integrated cognizance on science, not only to me it was first topic i stumble upon also because I find the topic interesting as ,we live in a world of science and getting to know other perception from great minds is a lot more, as a scientist we should always try to accept new ideas, new theories ,new inventions that does not change our understanding, in life we learn everyday, most scientist thinks their theory or inventions are ultimate but the ability for any one to accepts and adjust to new theories makes you the perfect scientist, many think science is just a collection of facts but it's significantly more than that, understanding the process of collecting fact but acquiring the knowledge is more important, during my expedition on the Joy of Science, I was able to metamorphose between relative truth and absolute truth, we live in the world where people believe in absolute truth many don't want to believe their ideas are wrong they only argue that there are correct at every point in time science is all about finding problems and getting a solution, the scientific method stops many from prejudice  not to be cold hand irrationals, there isn't a correct answer because everyone sees life in a different way, the joy of science satisfies many curious minds, we see today that scientific illiteracy affects our politicians and policy makers, in quantum mechanics scientific methods is best to evaluated absolute truth, the joy of science encourages researchers and readers to be rational.           An optimistic researcher Jim Al Khalili is a prominent author, a physicist at the university of Surrey along side held a university chair in the Public Engagement in Science  and one of the British science broadcaster born 20th September 1962 his know for the life scientific ,his fields includes nuclear physics, quantum mechanics and quantum biology, Jim studied in the university college in London in 2004 he was awarded as RISE(Recognizing inspirational scientists and engineers) also in 1989 he was awarded a science and engineering Research council(SERC) postdoctoral fellowship at University  College London, there are so many awards he got in 2000,2007,2009,2013,2021 and so many others, he wrote so many books and contributed to the world of science, his has great communication skills and has influenced so many lives, He is a prominent author and has written 14 books The world according to Physics was published in 2020 was shortlisted  for the Royal Society Book Prize followed by the Joy of Science which was published April, 2022.He spends half of his time as a public scientist, he is a living three piece suite.

Been seeing you posting abt Final Fantasy XIV and wanted to see if you think it’s worth getting into! I‘ve been considering giving it a shot but none of my pals seem wanna try it, and I’ve got like a million games in my queue to try out lol, so I’m curious if you think its worth playing!
I should be clear this is, like, my third time trying to get into it, but, considering this time I actually DID get it to stick yeah, I think it's worth it
I paid for the expansion stuff cause I wanted to use the party and guild features but the free trial on its own is legit expansive
when people talk about how it goes up to level 70, you have to consider the fact that that includes not just the main story, but the multiple jobs/roles that all have their own leveling mechanics, story and minor missions, and the different style of plays from typical combat to gathering and crafting mean that you can just keep leaving and coming back to try everything
The key is to really think about what you want to go for, because some classes might be perfect for you, while others might turn you away
Even being "solo", the game does give you a chocobo mount and one quest later you can have it fight with you how you want (offensive/defensive/healer), and while F2P loses some key communication features, most of the people I've joined up with in dungeons will either hard carry you or be friendly enough to accommodate any issues you have
And the MMORPG aspect of the game also means that depending on circumstances you can end up battling alongside people in the open world, even outside of parties, or heal/get healed by a random while being off on your own
Also, if you're north american, we got a new data center, like, really recently apparently, which means a constant EXP boost, and the game also goes out of its way to give new characters help so they can learn the ropes
Basically, yeah, for something that's free on its own, it's already worth it, and if it hooks you (and you can find people to play with to justify the party/guild features) you could justify paying the first cost by saying "well, I probably would've pirated a game that cost more than this anyway", and then you also get 1 million gil and 15 days of subscription for free if your new character hits 30 on a newer server

Premium Vector Linkedin Reactions Image Icons Like Love Pondering Clapping For Social Media Notification Icons
Don’t put your images in the /public listing and hotlink them, unless you might have a powerful cause to take action (Hadar, 2021). In this quick tutorial, I will walk you thru a number of the greatest methods you possibly can compress pictures for Reactjs for large performance wins. "One structural shift is lowering the reliance on China, Russia, and other non-aligned international locations by the developed economies," NDR mentioned, noting that Powell may also tie in comments about a shifting global financial system. "All of those feed into a better intermediate to longer-term outlook for inflation, and whether the 2 p.c inflation target is appropriate for developed economies." They need that extra one thing to stand out and get learn. I additionally like using emojis to attract consideration to these all-important contact particulars. You actually don’t want to miss out on a sale because a potential client can’t discover your e mail or phone quantity. To be sincere, big blocks of textual content can put readers to sleep. But a strategically positioned emoji can wake up a reader and spotlight your personality. I am unsure emojis would have a great impression on the business I focus on, but I thought the article was attention-grabbing and informative. These folks and their coverage preferences are what the GOP now and what the GOP post-Trump should acknowledge and what many within the moderate wing of the get together refuse to acknowledge. When movements lose their avatar and don’t have gatekeepers, they get corrupted – it’s an inevitability. In the soon-to-come post-Trump era, we are going to see an influx of individuals looking for to claim the MAGA throne; there's energy and influence to be gained, and different people will undoubtedly want it. A current Times/Sienna poll indicated that the GOP just isn't a cohesive ideological unit. Prigozhin seems to have been killed when his airplane crashed on its approach to St. Petersburg on Wednesday, exactly two months after a short-lived mutiny in opposition to the Russian defense ministry. put a heart on facebook You can group your results by writer type, pack, or see all out there icons on your display screen. You can only save three new edited icons per collection as a free consumer. Therefore I say go for it, we reside in a digital world 💻 of emoji’s on our cell phones 📱 and Emoji’s have become part of the norm, specifically in texts. These days, I get responses with no words, simply an Emoji 👌🏻 and the message is still perfectly clear. Reactions are beginning to roll out now and shall be out there globally to all members in the coming months within the LinkedIn cellular app and on the web. LinkedIn’s rollout comes within the wake of comparable moves on other social platforms — perhaps most noticeably on Facebook, which launched an expanded set of reaction buttons more than three years ago. I may go on, but whether or not speaking professionally or privately, including emojis is not only commonplace, it’s enhancing a message with an expressive tone. Maybe as a end result of it could make issues look less critical, and you’d be right. You can use Celebrate to reward an accomplishment or milestone like landing a new job or speaking at an event, or Love to express deep resonance and help, like a conversation about work life balance or the influence of mentorship. Insightful may help you acknowledge a fantastic point or fascinating idea, whereas Curious allows you to show your desire to be taught extra or react to a thought-provoking matter. As a poster, these new reactions might help you higher perceive the influence your posts are having. As increasingly of us use fashionable telephones and gadgets that mechanically update, emojis tend to seem as meant. There is a weppy converter software known as cwebp that I downloaded and installed into my laptop, however I was too lazy to compress them in CLI. So I used an internet converter to transform my existing PNG files to webp. Webp (weppy) is a model new quick image format developed by Google.

i Love spamton x readers where spamtons in like. an unconventional form, like hes a virus in your computer or he gets isekaid into your world as a living doll
That being said: in the "spamton lives in your computer" stories, reader downloads him accidentally or out of pity but What If they were a youtuber who talked about computer worms and viruses and downloaded him On Purpose in a virtual machine to showcase him
they narrate everything he does while screen recording like "oh see, its trying to access my microphone now. this is why you have to be careful about what programs you run, im using a vm so it should be contained and cant get into my actual files" and spamtons like "wtf. wtf"
little desktop spamton contained in the virtual machine while reader makes videos on him bc they and their audience think hes neat. they compliment his complexity and how much hes seemingly able to do, not knowing hes a whole little guy in there and not just a random computer virus

littol inscryption hcs :)
while leshy kinda has shut-in vibes i feel like like hes actually more the type to Never be home!! if you wanna challenge him you have to go find him in the woods and hes like up in a tree taking regular pictures of all the animals he sees (inscrybing everything would not be good for the ecosystem)
follow up he likes to think outside.. got like a huge rock he chills on where he brainstorms stuff for his games.. the Thinking Rock
probably bathes in a river or waterfall tbh. he doesnt need soap the sheer force of the water is enough to cleanse him
the fact that p03 has a mechanic where bot cards can have beast forms implies he doesnt hate them :) he feels positively enough to add them to his cards at least!!
although he can display pretty much anything he wants on his monitor, it still takes him considerable effort to hide his expressions! accidentally showing his smile only to immediately switch back to neutral like "you didnt see that"
being good friends with him would obviously include lots of playful + affectionate bullying but also the occasional sappy moment where he will either respond equally as sappy and/or threaten to kill you bc hes overwhelmed with the kindness
grimora treats her ghouls very well and visiting her is always a delight! the type to not let you leave without giving you a gift of some kind, be it a nice meal or a new pack of cards
she always tells the ghosts and ghouls they died bc they have to know at some point, but she makes sure to be gentle about it and is ready for whatever reaction they may have
yknow what! i think shed think p03s technology is cool!! all the scrybes feel a little old fashioned but shes quite interested in the modern stuff even if she isnt used to it or doesnt really understand it, but she tries!
man idk whats up with magnificus. giving him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was trying to do a sort of tough love approach with his students but in a weird twisted kinda way?? that or he was like "ah you idolize me? lol cringe [puts your head on a pike forever]"
he should have a wizard hat. i think he does have one somewhere but he got bullied into not wearing it
itd be really funny if his eyes see color differently so to him hes making these really gorgeous masterpieces but everyone else sees the colors normally and its just an awful awful mess. imagine if he sees things really bright and almost neon so everything he paints ends up being incredibly dull and slightly the wrong color

My #1 post of 2022
what if ingo and emmet had a shared pokemon version of instagram account for posting pictures they take of various trains and like. its not exactly Secret but theres nothing that really ties it to them bc its just about The Trains
but one day part of one of their shoes and like the edge of their coat is ever so slightly in frame and it goes viral bc this random little inconspicuous train fan account was actually run by the Subway Bosses of the Unova Battle Subway, 2 quite powerful and well known trainers in the region. and of course the internet would lose their minds over something like that
they wake up with like millions more followers and tons of comments like "I NEVER KNEW THIS ACCOUNT EXISTED??" and "thats. ingos shoe. he and emmet are the only people in the world who wear shoes like that"
ingos like "how did they all find out it was us??" and emmets reading the comments and says "ah, you were just barely in frame in this photo. thats how they identified us" and then they do nothing about it. they never speak about it publicly they just keep posting their train photos and ignoring dms

Examples of questions for loaded questions game
Tumblr media
I still enjoyed the game a lot more than Celeste, but I’m not seeing any of the creative expression that you mentioned. I didn’t find many scenarios where there was an option to choose between inks. It’s very much a pure execution test like Celeste. I also think it does a better job setting up its fiction compared to Celeste (do they ever explain why Madeline can air-dash?).īut I don’t really see much space for creativity in its level design. The game is a lot less strict in punishment, and it just doesn’t demand tight timing like other games in its subgenre (the physics might be a bit too loose in some cases). I picked it up due to what you’ve written about it. Maybe OReilly’s whimsical approach is funny to some people, but as with Foddy and Fox, his humor doesn’t reveal any wisdom or truth.Īnthony Navarro: How is Splasher any different from other linear platformers? This lack of philosophical rigor complements the game’s absurd vision of trees, animals, rocks, and other things. OReilly never dares to directly question Watts’ sayings. His last game, Everything (see my review here), uncritically employs audio of philosopher Alan Watts. But he is very much like Foddy and Fox when it comes to trying to prove his cleverness. Games like Fallout also don’t ask you patronizing questions like “Is killing things really necessary?”ĭavid OReilly is different than Foddy and Fox in that he emphasizes the experiences of random things rather than obstacles. However, other games, such as the Fallout series, have allowed audiences to see the ramifications of their decisions to kill or not kill, and they don’t ask you to play them multiple times to experience the consequences. Fox seems to believe this binary option lends his game a moral dimension that we should care about, and if you play the game more than once (I didn’t), you can see how killing or not killing might affect the game’s world. The only significant difference (beyond Undertale’s amateurish use of bullet-avoidance action) is that you can either kill or not kill enemies during battle. Toby Fox’s Undertale (which I reviewed here) is another game that wants you to think its obstacles are different, yet Undertale is as repetitive as any turn-based RPG. Foddy should take note of games that challenge players to think about context and meaning rather than practice mechanics, such as Liz Ryerson’s Problem Attic and Will O’Neill’s Little Red Lie. So if you want a unique experience with obstacles in games, Foddy isn’t the answer. At one point, he said obstacles in games are largely “fake,” and one of his reasons was that you can overcome most obstacles “just by spending enough time.” But how is this not true for Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy or its major influence Sexy Hiking? You have to spend enough time, or practice, to advance in either of these games. In my review of Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy, I highlighted some of Foddy’s in-game comments on difficulty. To expand a bit more on Foddy, let’s take a closer look at how he views difficulty in video games. Jed Pressgrove: I wrote that line because these independent developers would like to think they’re above the big-budget norm and that they have something clever to say, but in reality, their commentary is superficial and insufferable. In your review, why did you say, “If there’s anything the indie gaming world needs to get over, it’s these guys”? It was great, but I am curious about your complete opinion of game developers like Bennett Foddy, Toby Fox, and David OReilly. Recently, I read your review of Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy. Questions will be edited for clarity.Ĭesar Marquez: Hi Jed. If you have a question you would like to submit, please email it to or tweet it to Questions can cover anything closely or tangentially related to video games or art, including but not limited to criticism, culture, and politics. Loaded Questions is a new weekly feature at Game Bias.

You packed a delicious-looking breakfast into a special bamboo box, and then wrapped both the beautifully scented bento and the paper bag with chocolate cookies in a much larger piece of colorful fabric to make it all more convenient to carry. A proud smile graced your face as you turned to greet Albedo, whose footsteps you heard in the distance.
“Hello, darling.” You greeted him warmly and then felt a sweet kiss in the middle of your hot forehead. “Breakfast is on the table, and here, I packed your dinner. Please, eat it later, okay?” You added softly, touching his delicate skin on his cheek by your left hand, and the man nodded gently, after a while, however, nestling your body into his slightly larger and warmer. “Huh? Something happened?”
“Well... I know, I promised you that today we will spend some time together and go for a walk, but I will have to stay longer at work.” He confessed hesitantly, and you sighed under your breath.
“After all, you are our Chief Alchemist, I’m not really surprised. Has Jean commissioned you to do something important?” Curious, you asked, and he shook his head, which made you a bit confused. So you raised an eyebrow, gesturing for him to answer you truthfully.
“Sucrose asked me to help her with alchemy, so I’ll stay with her a little longer to help her master some of the things.” He admitted calmly, and your expression becomes blank. Ah, right. You could have figured out that the reason for all of this is your fiance’s helper, Sucrose.
You moved away from his body, then sighed; nevertheless, a weak smile appeared on your face. Not very honest, but Albedo didn’t seem to notice it.
“It’s okay, love. Let’s go eat our breakfast. I made your favorite vegetable and mushroom omelets.”
{ ・゚✧ }
Hours after Albedo left the house, you realized that you forgot to add a thermos with coffee to his large bento. You decided to quickly fix your mistake and prepared his favorite, strong drink. You also took some fresh fruit and packed it in a small cloth bag. On its front there was a beautiful bouquet that you had embroidered yourself a few days earlier.
Even though you were confused by the behavior of your lover, you couldn’t stop worrying about him. He was the most important person for you, he was your beloved second half, he was also the best human you have ever met, so you wanted to repay him for looking after you and making sure that nothing bad would ever happen to you. Albedo cared for you as best he could and you appreciated it like nothing else in the world. However, for a long time you have had the impression that this care and interest in you begins and ends in your shared home, where no one is looking, where no one is allowed to enter.
Your weekly walks around the city were a thing of the past, and you didn’t want to ask for them every time. Your ‘family’ lunches were no longer shared lunches, because you ate them alone while the twenty-two-years-old was in his lab or carrying out his missions. Your tenderness was limited to kisses on the forehead, and you missed kisses on the mouth, on the nose, on other parts of the body. Not to mention about long baths together or time spent in bed (not necessarily reading books, but something... more intimate).
Nevertheless, you weren’t particularly angry, maybe a bit disappointed, but you didn’t feel angry with your partner. The only thing you could feel at that time was your concern about whether Albedo takes care of himself and takes care of his daily menu or the right amount of water consumed throughout the whole day.
The road to the place where the young man’s laboratory was located took you less than twenty minutes. Along the way, you greeted the inhabitants of Mondstadt, who, seeing you, wished you a nice day and asked you to greet, quoting their words, ‘The Great Captain’. At the sound of their joyfull voices you smiled slightly, nodding your head and promising you would do it. And as soon as you got to the right place, you quietly entered the building. You wanted to say ‘Good afternoon’ to your loved one and green-haired teenager, but instead you almost felt that the bag of products falling out of your hands.
You knew Albedo cherished you and would never cheat on you, but it hurt to see him leaning forward next to Sucrose. It seemed that his lips were about to touch her cheek or temple, and it hurt as badly as any other form of cheating. He had so much fun with her and their alchemy, so many topics to talk about, from work to missions they were given, and you? All you two could talk about was only... Yeah, was what?
“Umm... Albedo?” Your peaceful voice spread over the fairly large room, and two people next to the wooden table looked up at your standing figure. “I forgot to pack your coffee in the morning... I’ll put it here and I won’t disturb you two anymore. Don’t overstraining yourselves, okay?” Your faint smile covered a broken voice and trembling lips. “Good luck with your work and study. Do your best.”
You quickly put the silvery thermos and colorful fruit on the dark cabinet, and just as quickly left the room. Albedo, seeing your figure disappearing, apologized to his assistant, and she nodded. But before the blonde alchemist left the room, Sucrose grabbed him by the black sleeve of his clothes and laughed shyly.
“Mr. Albedo, I don’t think I need any extra lessons today, though. We can arrange a different date. Will it be okay?” Her girlish voice reached his ears, and he mechanically agreed, breathing blissfully. “Thank you. Please keep Mrs. Y/N company tonight. I think she misses you really much.”
The knight wanted to answer, but instead he ran after you, catching you up almost at the exit of the brick building. He took your sad face slowly between his all, long fingers and you frowned.
“Why are you leaving? You’re always welcome here, darling.”
“I just don’t want to disturb you two, Albedo. I don’t fit here.” You admitted finely, and your gaze shifted to the mahogany panels under your feet. “Sometimes I wonder why you are with me. I don’t even understand alchemy, you can’t talk to me about it. You should... Maybe you should be with Sucrose? Or with another woman who shares your hobbies...?” You asked tenderly, and he opened his eyes wider, pulling your body into a warm embrace.
“I never thought of leaving you for someone else, dearest. Why are you talking about this at all? What happened?”
Your eyes met his deep blue orbs again, and you shrugged timidly.
“Currently, Sucrose is closer to you than I am. I thought you were bored with me. Moreover – I don’t thi...”
A precious kiss on your blueberry-tasting lips silenced your thoughts and at the same time caused a tiny blush on your both cheeks and ear tips.
“Sucrose is my successor, it’s true. But, my love. You are my future wife and you’re definitely more important to me than she is. Please don’t ever think that I will leave you for someone else. You are the best thing... no, you’re the best person that enter to my life and I love you very, very much. Also... Sucrose always asks about you and says she wants to be like you. Like someone who know how to cook or bake, sew clothes and plushies, make beautiful hairstyles like the ones on my head. She admires you as someone admires their mother. Sometimes I have the feeling that she would rather be your apprentice than mine.” He laughed cutely, and you looked at him in big surprise. After a short while, however, you nodded, resting your head on his smooth neck. “... I know I’ve been neglecting you lately and I’m ashamed of it, but now I promise to make it up to you. Therefore, let’s go home and tomorrow we’ll go for a walk to the lake or for a picnic.”
“Huh? But your job? Extra-curricular activities...? And what about...”
“Don’t think about anything. We’re done now so let’s go, dear. I have to show you how different you are from other people when it comes to my feelings.” Suddenly his mouth was right next to your left ear, and warm breath wrapped around your face. “And I don’t promise you’ll fall asleep tonight.”
“... A-Albedo!”

Heart Song (2)
In which Tech grows closer to his soulmate and his training deepens his understanding if who he is.
Tumblr media
Tech was in a good mood. He had narrowed it down to two reasons:
1. He was doing more specialized lessons and training, meaning less time getting dirty looks from the other boys.
2. He had all the words to his soulmate's lullaby figured out. She had sung him the one about whiskey several times, and would be overjoyed that he had learned it.
Tech was humming it over breakfast today, stirring the unnamable food on his tray with his spoon, pushing his glasses up his nose. "Someone's in a good mood." His blonde brother remarked. He'd said he would go in for special combat and sniping training later today, so he was less snide and sarcastic than usual.
Tech nodded, shoving the spoonful in his mouth. "Excited for training, that's all."
"You're telling me!" Wrecker cheered. "I get to throw things all day."
The most average looking out of the four of them nodded. He didn't say anything- he didn't have much to say, typically. He hadn't said much about what he was apparently specialized in- but he'd started sleeping with eye and ear coverage since he'd met with Nalaa Se.
"Apparently, I'm going to be running through programming and artificial anatomy today." Tech's leg bounced and he wondered if he should tell them about the lullaby. Not yet, at least, he decided. "Then we get to do training together later."
Wrecker laughed, smacking the table. "I hope you guys are prepared! I'm thinking I can throw one of you at a droid."
"Please don't." The blonde one mumbled, lowering his spoon.
Tech grinned, pushing up his glasses, chuckling. "Let's see what they give us. I wouldn't mind being thrown."
Wrecker cheered, leading the oldest of them, the most normal looking, to chuckle and pick up his tray. "I've got to run. I'll see you later."
"Bye." Wrecker waved, and Tech and the blonde one repeated after him. Wrecker shoved the last bits of the gelatenous pile of nutrition in front of him into his mouth, swallowing mightily and jumping up. “I’ve gotta run too.” he waved at his brothers and practically sprinted out, giggling gleefully about throwing heavy things.
Tech stirred his food, standing after a moment, walking in a haze to the appointed training room. What did his soulmate look like? He sighed, happily, thinking of her voice. Maybe her hair was long! Or curly! Did she have glasses too?
There was an obvious pep in his step as he entered the training room, mechanical mind engineering all the faces she could possibly have. No matter how she looked, his little heart was already pledged so deeply to her that he was scared if he took it away he would simply die.
Tech sat down at the screen, fingers flying over the keys, embracing each click as a musician does his instrument. He found his leg bouncing under the pristine table to the song he had memorized.
What will make the dumb talk, what will make the lame walk, what's the elixer of life-
Tech blinked as the screen flashed, them went blank. He looked up at the Sargent standing behind him. "What happened?"
"You finished." The Sargent offered him a half smile, taking the headset Tech removed from his ears. "Good job, kid."
Tech stood, quiet, nodding softly. He paused and looked back. "Sargent, sir?' A grunt acknowledged him, and Tech inhaled. "Is there any way I can... find music?"
The Sargent hummed in thought, glancing at the boy, brow piqued in... concern? Question? Tech felt his face flush. "If it's no trouble-"
"No, no. Cadets don't usually ask. That's all." The Sargent rubbed a finger along the headset, pushing his lips together in thought. "There's a few spare radios in the hangar bay. Gonna be shipped out and thrown. If you can fix one, it's yours."
Tech perked up. "I can?"
"Yes." The Sargent smiled, shaking his head softly, but the curious glint had been replaced with amusement. "Go on, now. You're due for combat in an hour."
Tech thanked him before marching away as quickly as he could, doing all in the world he could to not skip. He paused, looking around, and then whispered, "Song bird?"
There was a pause, and then a gleeful giggle responded. "Smarty pants! Calling so early?"
Bobbing his head in a nod, Tech smiled. "Yeah. I wanted to ask you something. The Sargent said if I could fix one of the radios, I could have it. I want to listen to music. Maybe I'll know lullabies too."
"Please!" She gasped. "You would learn songs for me?'
The joy in her voice alone was enough to send the boy spiraling again, imagining the smile on every face he could imagine. "I would learn all the songs for you," Tech sighed, narrowly avoiding bumping into a rather stern-looking trainee, smiling apologetically, the rose haze of infatuation lifting briefly.
"You're so sweet!" The girl gushed, squealing. "Who knew my soul mate would be such a sweet heart?"
"I thought I was smarty pants."
"A sweet-smarty-heart-pants."
The words didn't make much sense, but Tech conceded, making his way into the darkened hanger. "I did lots of training today."
"What kind?"
"It's pretty boring," Tech admitted, sheepishly, as he tugged at a cable.
"You want to listen to my songs! I want to know what you know."
His heart was near exploding, it was beating so quickly. "You... do?" Other clones steered clear of the nerd, and his brothers could get easily frustrated with Tech talking about things they just wouldn't understand. Mechanics and physics were beyond them, though fascinating to him. "No one ever wants to know."
"Well," She reasoned, and Tech imagined her puckering her lips in thought. "If we're going to spend the rest of our lives together, I want to know more about what you like."
The rest of our lives.
His face went red again, and Tech made an involuntary noise, joy washing over him as he finally heaved up a smaller, clunky radio from the pile. "That sounds incredible." He clutched that device to his little chest, heart racing, and almost slumped over.
He stood and walked, a sense of purpose in his heart. "Can I talk to you more tonight?"
"You can talk to me any time." She sighed in response, sounding almost as smitten as Tech felt. "What are you going to do now?"
"My brothers and I are going to the arena. We're practicing combat today." He picked up his pace, dispensing the radio at the foot of his bed. "We're trying to be soldiers. Training is important."
"Do your brothers know about me?"
"No." Tech inhaled. "I'm technically not supposed to be talking to you."
She sounded horrified, appalled. "Will you get in trouble? Why?"
He shrugged, adding "I'm not sure, I just shouldn't," a little lamely. "But I really want to keep talking to you. We can have a secret together! Just one you and I know about."
She laughed, in affirmation, stating it sounded so romantic and thrilling, like some story her fathers read to her. Tech could only smile as he hurried down the hall to join his brothers for their combat training.
___
It wasn't that Tech hadn't believed Nalaa Se when she stated they were an experimental batch of specialized troopers. As far as he knew, the Kaminoans wanted the best for him and his brothers. It just shocked him as he watched the four of them, himself included, in action.
The blonde one was deadly accurate with a shot, taking only a second to scale upwards, aim, and take down a series of AI. Wrecker abandoned his gun for throwing droids at each other, practically invincible in his cadet-regulated armor, and the oldest one, the normal looking one, wove away from his brothers quickly and between the barriers, making his way quickly towards the droids.
Tech was stunned. For all the engineering, for all his brains, he lacked skill and brawn. He stationed himself behind the barrier, shooting at the droids that stalked up. He grimaced, looking around. His batch was too far, and he was alone.
He exhaled, hands shaking on the training pistol. He thought that the mechanics, the autonomy, were all he needed-
Tech paused. He lowered his gun, glancing around. "Wrecker! I need that commander droid!" He saw Wrecker give a brief grunt of agreement, and then he ran towards Wrecker, who was currently yanking down the commander droid.
Tech yanked the droid down and pried open its head, tugging around at cords and wires. "Wrecker, cover me!" He grimaced, fingers working at the cords, small brain working to try and remember what did what.
The droids shut down, and Wrecker cheered. "This is the end of your training session. Please return to the point of entry."
Tech felt his shoulders slump, abandoning the droid's cranium. His plan- it hadn't worked. He just wasted his time. The room was littered with remnants of practice deoids his brothers had easily taken down, and here he was, struggling with one. Tech stood, slowly, and followed his brothers, shuffling in behind them, shame covering his face, and he reluctantly moved his helmet from his head, eyes downcast. His glasses slid down his nose as he tried to not sniffle.
Stupid glasses. Useless clone.
___
He tinkered with the radio, quiet, waiting for his soul mate's voice. It seemed to be the only thing that would bring him comfort.
Even his oldest brother's encouragement wasn't enough. "It was a good plan, Tech! You'll get the hang of it." Tech had only mumbled in response and let the blonde dissuade Wrecker (who was dramatically reenacting the training), leading the others out to go watch a spar between some older cadets.
The door opened, and only a muffled step responded. "Tech?'
The boy grunted a soft hello to 99. He didn't bother glancing back, frustrated tears still pricking his eyes. Good soldiers don't cry.
Tech heard 99 approach, and felt the weight of his bed shift. The older clone was kind, caring- especially towards this batch. Perhaps he was some of himself in them. "What's wrong, Tech?"
"Nothing," Tech whimpered, trying to inject venom in his words. It was a pitiful attempt. His grip on the radio slipped and it collapsed on the bed. Tech sniffled, reaching up to rub his eyes, still not looking at 99. "I'm useless."
"Now, Tech, don't go saying that." 99 reached down with a knotted hand and gently patted Tech's shoulder, letting the boy sniffle as he hugged his pillow. "What makes you believe that?"
Tech inhaled, shakily, removing his glasses and rubbing his face. "W-well," he gulped in air. "I was tr-tr-training with my brothers," His voice warbled, and he swallowed to contain it.
Good soldiers don't cry.
The older clone offered a gentle smile, nodding and humming in encouragement.
Tech gave a sob. I'm not a good soldier. "I tried to do something during training. I saw Wrecker and- well, they don't have names yet, but they were all doing these amazing new combat skills." Tech's face went red and he rubbed at the tears, now breaking past their barrier. "And I just... sat there. I thought, maybe I could re-program the commander- but- I- I-"
Tech broke. He buried his face in his little hands and began sobbing. His fingers felt soft, and he drew his head away in disgust. Wrecker already had blisters from lifting weights, and the other two were forming callouses from their specialized combatative training, with knives and rifles. "My hands are wimpy, even." Tech whined, pulling his knees to his chest.
99 kept his hand firm but easy on Tech's arm. He patted the boy's back, listening to him gulp in air and try to control his breathing, and waiting patiently. "Breathe deep. You'll want to, because I have something to say."
Tech sniffled, picking his head up and inhaling through his snotty nose, then exhaling from his lips, thick from crying. His face was still warm, and his eyes felt dry, but his chest felt lighter. He glanced at 99, who was smiling softly, the comforting weight of his hand still on Tech's shoulder. When he finished, 99 scooted closer, hands moving to shakily pick up the radio. "You aren't useless. Would you call me useless?"
"Never!" Tech drew away, fingers gripping the glasses in his hands. "You're not!"
99 chuckled gingerly, adjusting the radio to sit in his lap. "My point exactly. None of us are useless, Tech." His knobbled fingers traced the old radio, thoughtfully, as if trying to draw words from the stations not playing on it. "One way or another, we live to serve each other. We all have a purpose. It can be hard to find. You seem to know yours, Tech, and you should value it. You're smart and I don't know any other clones who would think of running out into battle to try and hack a commander droid." He reached to his chest pocket, tugging out a small and thin cylindrical object. "Sometimes, though, you need tools to get you there."
Tech's sniffles had subsided. He was down to taking a few occasional shaky breaths, watching the clone work gingerly on the radio. "So, I need tools?"
"Everyone does." 99 stated simply. "You're all good kids- gonna be good troopers, too." 99 tapped the know, smiling slightly in victory when it crackled to life. "You're just gonna need to have to right tools to make your purpose happen."
Shoving his glasses on, Tech scrambled to the radio. "You fixed it!" He bounced on his knees, turning the dials with a loving unfamiliarity. "Thank you."
"Any time," 99 stood with a grunt, hobbling towards the door.
Tech rotated towards him. "99?"
"Hm?"
"Can I tell you a secret? It has to be between us, okay?"
Chuckling, 99 slid the door shut again, sitting down on the bench. Standing for a long time was hard on his body, and Tech scooted his legs under him. "Sure, Tech. I'll keep it between us."
"I met someone." He grinned, fiddling with the radio. "She's wonderful."
"She?" 99 blinked. "General Tii?"
Tech shook his head, excitement bubbling in him. "My soulmate." He grinned widely. "I have a soulmate! She's wonderful," he repeated, knees bouncing. "She likes to sing and she listens to me."
99 grinned, crow's feet by his eyes wrinkling. "Tell me about her."
"Well, she sings to me.' Tech's chest tingled, and he felt like a fog, a good fog, was closing in on him. "I don't know her name, though. She doesn't know mine." He paused, setting down the radio. "I really want to meet her some day, 99." Tech adjusted his glasses, pausing. "I'm not going to be useless to her, I hope."
"You won't be." 99 smiled, standing. "Not a lot of cadets are familiar with soulmates, here." He paused. "And I'm not good with girls myself, but if you need anything, let me know." He grinned and stood, grunting with effort. "We all deserve a soulmate. I'm glad you have one."
Tech exhaled in relief, assured that the soulmate would be kept between the two of them, and he turned on the radio, listening for songs to learn just for his soul mate.
Tech quietly curled up in bed, awaiting for her voice to fill him.
But it didn't. Not that night.

Can you give a review of disco Elysium? Your reblogging of that content makes me mad curious about the game to where I'm debating to get it for the switch
Yes! This is going to be part review and part gushing, because obviously you probably know by now that I love it, but I will try to be honest and say where I think it does work and doesn't.
Long story short, I think it's one of the best games I've ever and probably will ever play, but it's not for everyone. It has dark topics, it can be very dense, and is more like reading a fucked-up detective novel than playing a game at times (though ironically, you can read an actual detective novel in the game, while playing as a detective). Just to give you an idea, the main character also literally hears voices in his head in the form of his "skills" that you can invest points into; this is played with as a springboard into the topic of mental illness and his deteriorating state of mind, but also an insight to how this world works. (It's implied that other characters have skills and stats of their own, but they just don't "hear" theirs speak like you do as the player.)
Note, I hear mixed reviews for the Switch port (I've heard it crashes, has long load times, and it can be hard to read all the text on small screens) but there is a physical cartridge coming out on March 15 so maybe they'll fix some of the bigger problems by then.
Spoiler-free review and breakdown of the game's major mechanics and themes below the cut. Cut because it's long; I tried to divide it based on what reviewers might normally write about.
Gameplay: Disco Elysium is an isometric RPG with a limited map with its core gameplay mechanics being dialogue interactions, choices, and table-top style dice rolls for more difficult actions. There is no active combat. Things like "prying open a dumpster to look for evidence" and "come up with a motive for why someone would do this" are actions you'd have to roll for, and equipping different outfits, and leveling up related skills (physical instrument, empathy, logic) can make these checks easier. Since the dialogue is such a core feature, the writing can get very dense, and DE tackles some very complex topics, including everything from the politics, economics, and races of this universe, to the brands of chewing gum and popular karaoke songs. Think of it like part detective story, part RPG, part mind-twister.
Gameplay 2: Rolling to pass checks: Passing checks isn't automatically a good thing and failing them isn't automatically bad; you should think carefully if you want to make some rolls, even if it's tempting when you see you have a high chance of passing. Some of the checks are fun (sing karaoke), some are serious (talk down someone with a gun), some are morally gray (steal drugs from another addict just to take them yourself), and some of them are downright terrible (punch a child). Also, if you fail one, there are almost always ways to get around it or solve the quest a different way; I appreciated that a lot cause it forced me to solve quests in other ways I wouldn't normally.
Content warnings: A lot. Substance abuse is rampant and the player can participate in it (mild spoiler: your character is an alcoholic and drug addict, you can choose whether or not to partake), descriptions of dead/decomposing bodies, police brutality, descriptions of rape and sexual violence, racism, sexism, child abuse, children using substances, real life and in-world slurs, mental illness and depression, suicide mentions and possible depictions (it is possible for your character to kill himself, though it results in a game over, and it IS something the player has to select with full authority), and overall viscous critique of various political ideologies. I'm being deliberately vague in this post to avoid spoiling but if you want any details about certain things, let me know (like how far the potential suicide scene goes, or how sexual violence appears).
Story: You wake in a trashed hotel room with no memory of who you are or how you got there. There is a body hanging from a tree in the backyard of the hotel, as it has been for seven days; you discover that you are a detective who drunk himself into such a stupor that you literally forgot his past, and it is your job to solve the murder. To help you, a detective from another precinct arrives, and together you have to investigate clues, interview around the neighborhood, and navigate the complexities of a local union and their company as the case becomes more intertwined with an ongoing worker strike.
The World: The story takes place in the fictional world of Elysium; more specifically, in a slum area called Martinaise in the city of Revachol. Revachol is a bit of a mess. From the developers' blog: There is no city in the world with more contrasts than Revachol. The broken, magnificent, disgraced former capital of the world. A great sky on fire, reflecting off broken glass. Revachol the Suzerain, Revachol the Commune, Revachol the Administrative Region where all forms of government have failed. Revachol the Resolver, the answer to the great burning questions of history. How should we live? Will the horror ever end?
Revachol is just one small part of Elysium, but this corner of the world has a mix of European influences that are difficult to quantify: playing in English, at a glance I recognized French, Spanish, Dutch, and I think Polish scattered throughout. Seol, a faraway continent, is implied to be based off of Korea or Japan.
Characters: Phenomenal across the board. I love how NPCs will actually react to your weirder video game–typical behavior (like hogging everything you pick up and clearing out conversation topics like it's a checklist), and it will affect future interactions with them. A standout character and fan favorite is Kim Kitsuragi, the lieutenant from Precinct 57, who serves as the "straight man" in most situations where you run around asking NPCs basic questions like "what is money" and "who am I again?" It's hard to nail the balance of a character who's a little dry and stiff, but is also a serviceable deuteragonist while also being likable; I don't think I've seen another character that has affected players' behavior to the point where people are willing to change their play styles altogether just to avoid displeasing or disappointing him. Aside from Kim, you really get the sense that everyone is a fully-fledged human with a life to live outside of the map you see; some of them already have lived their lives and you're seeing what the world has made of them.
Voice acting: So so good. Some of the voices were odd choices, and I won't deny certain ones didn't do it for me, but for the most part, I think they're consistently excellent. It might be a case where mediocre performances just stand out negatively when compared to the rest of other brilliant talent.
The writing: This game has some of the best writing I've ever seen. Hands down. It may not always be accessible, is the thing; there's a lot of dense world-building, political negotiating, and even a bit of telling and not showing, but mechanically, effectively, and emotionally, easily the best-written game I've ever played. I mentioned that it tackles a lot of dark topics, but I would do it a disservice to not mention how genuinely funny it is. A lot of it is dark humor, but a lot of other scenes are just genuinely hysterical.
Skills: Imagine 24 people gathered around a table and divided up your brain’s functions. That's what your skills are like: people with jobs to do, and they all have opinions on how you should do yours. You can invest in these skills to help you solve the case and interact with the world. The fact that all of these skills are fully voiced means they all become their own characters—24 often sarcastic voices inside the main character's head helping you try to solve the case. Some are more informative, designed to vibe you information, but others have opinions. They are all unique, tailored to their own interests, and all want different things. They're divided into four categories:
Intellect: has Logic, Encyclopedia (offering you information on the world's lore, or at least what that your brain remembers as an amnesiac), Rhetoric (controls your own speech for maximum effectiveness and also understanding what other people are saying behind their words), Drama (can lie and detect lies), Conceptualization (your creativity skill, or the ability to find motives initially beyond your understanding), and Visual Calculus (for reconstructing crime scenes)
Physique: has Endurance, Pain Threshold, Physical Instrument, Electrochemistry (mostly known as the drug skill that wants you to indulge early and often, it can also detect when others are high or drunk or if there are drugs around; it's sort of your instant gratification skill, so it's your id in a way), Shivers (the ability to hear—and feel—the city around you, to the point where it literally gives you "shivers"), Half-Light (your fight-or-flight instinct)
Psyche: has Volition (your willpower and mental health stat—the ability to mentally make it through), Inland Empire (gut feelings), Empathy, Authority (the stat that wants you to push your weight around, and also senses when someone's trying to do it to you), Esprit de Corps (understanding—and sometimes seeing—other police throughout the city), Suggestion (for charming and manipulation)
Motorics: has Hand-Eye Coordination, Perception, Reaction Speed, Savoir Faire (coolness stat), Interfacing (help for dealing with machines and tools), Composure (helpful for interviewing witnesses)
There are two health bars: your physical health bar (represented by how many points you have in Endurance) and your morale health (represented by Volition). If either of these hit zero, you die. You can take drugs to increase these bars, however, a drug might boost your stats temporarily but lower your health; drinking will boost your health but lower your morale; and of course, if you're trying to play as a recovering addict, then you might want to avoid substances entirely.
Each of these skills has their own time and place, of course, but since they all have voices and wants of their own, you have to decide when to listen to one and not another. Rhetoric will read between the lines and tell you what a suspect is really saying; Drama will assume they're lying; Authority will want you to interrogate her forcefully; Empathy will want you to, well, show empathy; Suggestion will want you to subtly play her against her allies; and Inland Empire will want you to back out of this conversation now because she's starting to remind you of your ex.
An interesting feature is that too many points in one skill can start to make them unreliable. Electrochemistry is great for understanding when someone is high and what they're high on, but too much into that skill and it'll tell you licking up that whiskey from a puddle on the counter is a great idea. Even so-called "good" stats, like Volition, have their downsides at high levels: Volition cares about your mental health and willpower and will focus on getting you through the tasks at had sometimes at the cost of others.
My personal favorite is when you get the chance to talk to the skills, or even when the skills talk to each other.

Mechanics: DE does assume you know the basics of how games work. There is a tutorial page and tips that crop up regularly, but it doesn't always hold your hand and sometimes you have to figure out how to do things on your own. The map is beautiful, but it is also sometimes confusing to navigate what is walkable and what isn't. Fortunately, there is a way to highlight all interactable objects and people, so you can quickly see where the rough edges of the map exist within your vision. So overall, there are some things that work fine and other things that are just awkward. Mostly, I recommend saving often just in case you run into an unfortunate bug or something.
Is this game good for beginners? Yes and no. There are no quick-time reactions, so it doesn't require you to think or react fast; in fact, the game moves very slowly, so you can take your time to decide every move. That said, it does assume you know the staples of any game and are familiar with role-playing: an inventory system, a quest log, a map, etc. I also recommend saving frequently; it doesn't autosave that often, and given how often it is possible to accidentally mess up or even die from low morale by way of a heart attack. I do generally recommend against save scumming (when you reload a save and re-roll dice to get another result, e.g. to try to pass a check you failed), but some people want to get the most out of one playthrough and aren't interested in playing a game twice, so I won't judge.
Politics: The game is very political and the politics are unavoidable. There are four factions in this universe: fascism (nationalism), communism, ultraliberalism (although I think this is based off the European version of liberalism, which basically capitalism), and moralism (centrism; basically what the game assigns you by default if you keep saying "none of the above" to any political topic).
Tumblr media
Also, and this might sound a bit gatekeepery, but... I think the game assumes you can analyze what you're reading and playing and won't take everything at face value. It trusts you will understand that just because a corporate negotiator is nice to you, and has sympathetic moments, doesn't mean she's on your side or even that the game is agreeing with her. Just because a union leader is mean and corrupt doesn't mean the writers are against unions. Etc. You'll have to judge who to trust on your own.
And the elephant in the room: The game is about the police. You play as a policeman, and the characters will react to you as you'd expect many people in a poor ghetto would react to a cop. You can be polite and considerate, or you can also be a raging, abusive cop pushing around his authority. Mild spoilers: As you find out more about who you were, you also get the sense that pre-amnesia, you were not always (if ever) a... uh, great person while in uniform.
Real world relevance: The creators grew up in Estonia during Soviet occupation, so it's not hard to see how they were influenced. You can speculate on what they were trying to say with the game, but personally it seems to me to be a story made by leftists who are very, very tired of not only right-wing and center but also left-wing politics, and want to represent life and living after revolutions and politics fail the people. The story of Revachol is a story of a place where communist revolutionaries tried to make "something new" happen, but were ultimately taken over by foreign powers that forced capitalism upon the region, and now people have to figure out how to move on when they have no government of their own but they are a "Zone of Control" under a centrist, slow-moving foreign power.
--
So I think that's all I've got without getting into spoilers. This game made me laugh and think and turned my brain inside out. That said, it is definitely a commitment, but it's easily my new favorite indie game of all time; probably in my top three games ever. It's a shame that the Hugo Awards only started giving awards to games in 2021 (going to the well-deserved Hades), because if they had started just one year earlier, I think this would've won in 2020.

my rheumatologist has done more for me towards getting a POTS diagnosis than my cardiologist thats kinda sad bro
i came in to the cardiologist the other day (finally after waiting MONTHS) hoping for a tilt table test to see how my heart rate and blood pressure react to orthostasis in a controlled setting. the doctor didnt actually do a thing to test me for it in-office, i was just told to schedule an echo (which is fine), holster (alright) and stress test (why). but i was also prescribed eastern medicine as a treatment....“superbrain yoga”? like i dont want to seem closeminded because she is an indian doctor and there are some things that western medicine hasn’t caught on to but i realy wish i was told why it is supposed to work. like i want to know physiologically how and why it supposedly works. get technical and mechanical with me bro i have le autism, thats my language if you wanna really convince me. if it’s about toning up the muscles in my legs to squeeze the blood into my core upon standing why dont i just do squats? why do i have to do all this really specific stuff like hold my tongue at the roof of my mouth and face east, crossing my arms (right arm must go over left) and maneuver my hands in a certain way to grab my earlobes while doing those squats? is that merely a concentration sort of thing to make your brain focus? if so, why not just let me know what the purpose to these specific movements are (and what does focusing my brain have to do with treating POTS symptoms anyway)?? i’m not a spiritual person so the spiritual aspects of it do nothing for me. but at least i wasn’t given intensive aerobic exercise because i cant do that lol. i was just prescribed core strength training with planks and crunches (fine with me) and “superbrain yoga” (the specifics still confuse me but i’m doing it anyway)
but i didnt even get a tilt table test while i was there, i asked about it and she said “we stopped doing tilt table tests a while ago” and i was like ????????? thats like the gold standard to test for POTS my guy. based on just my symptoms she said i had dysautonomia and i asked “what about POTS?” and she said “it could be” and i was like ? could be? bro you didnt even test for it?
the whole visit just felt really vague and dismissive to my issues (yet again). fucking even my rheumatologist said before this visit to the cardiologist that i “probably have POTS”
so when i left the cardiologist the other day i wrote this up because i was very upset, felt dismissed, and took matters into my own hands to show what kind of medical concepts i’m capable of comprehending and the kind of language i want doctors to talk to me about my conditions in. and today i read it to my rheumatologist during today’s appointment:
the cardiologist says i have dysautonomia, “caused by dysfunction of the small blood vessels”. in the clinic, the nurse measured my laying vs standing blood pressure (which increased rather than decreased) but they didn’t do my heart rate there for some reason. but on my own i’ve measured my heart rate to jump above 30 bpm within 10 minutes of standing, so with all the symptoms lining up exactly with what’s expected of POTS (heart rate increase greater than 30 bpm within 10 minutes of standing, no drop in blood pressure, lightheadedness, brain fog, palpitations, prolonged fatigue, heat intolerance, excessive sweating etc), i’m convinced that the type of dysautonomia i specifically have is POTS, not just the umbrella term “dysautonomia”, and the specific brand of POTS i have is the neuropathic POTS subtype which is thought to be caused by sympathetic denervation (partial autonomic neuropathy) in the lower extremities. this causes the blood vessels in my legs not to constrict as they should when standing, which in turn causes blood to pool in the legs and not return to the heart, causing the heart to have to source its blood supply from elsewhere in the meantime to compensate (with an overall lower venous return), driving up the heart rate and causing lightheadedness. my blood tests also showed i am also very slightly anemic by 0.1 point below the normal range (11.6 g/dL) the resulting denervation hypersensitivity from the sympathetic denervation what is thought to cause erythromelalgia—which i express all the hallmark symptoms of as well in my feet (redness, increased skin temperature, burning sensation (feels like walking on a hot pool deck), cold to touch and bluish purple when not actively flaring, flaring occurs at night, symptoms worsen with exposure to heat and exercise (including walking on feet while flaring) and are relieved with cooling and elevation). i have no response to the cold unlike with what is seen in raynauds. i actually consider cold exposure my savior; the heat is my worst enemy, it makes me feel faint and lightheaded dysautonomia-wise and it makes my feet flare up rheumatologically.
“Several previous investigations have provided clues that patients with the postural tachycardia syndrome have peripheral autonomic dysfunction. Streeten et al. found that patients with orthostatic tachycardia had excessive venous pooling in the legs while standing and suggested that denervation of the legs was a mechanism of the syndrome. This hypothesis was supported by the finding of hypersensitivity to infusion of norepinephrine into the veins of the foot, despite high plasma catecholamine concentrations. [...] These stimuli increased norepinephrine spillover in the arms of both the patients with the postural tachycardia syndrome and the normal subjects, with similar increases in the two groups, but failed to increase norepinephrine spillover in the legs of the patients. [...] The reduced clearance of norepinephrine in the legs, without a similar reduction in the arms, may result from impairment of norepinephrine-reuptake mechanisms due to isolated damage to nerve terminals in the legs. [...] CONCLUSIONS: The neuropathic postural tachycardia syndrome results from partial sympathetic denervation, especially in the legs.” — (https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM200010053431404)
“The laser Doppler flowmetry signal after sympathetic stimulation of reflexes mediated through the central nervous system, was significantly diminished in patients with erythromelalgia as compared with healthy controls. [...] Vasoconstrictor responses involving central sympathetic reflexes were attenuated in erythromelalgia. Local neurogenic vasoconstrictor regulation, vasodilator response to local heating and hyperemic response to ischemia were maintained. [...] The finding of reduced skin perfusion before provocation is in accordance with the clinical observations that many erythromelalgia patients exhibit cold acral skin between attacks. [...] These results indicate that postganglionic sympathetic dysfunction and denervation hypersensitivity may play a pathogenetic role in primary erythromelalgia.” — (https://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S0022-202X(15)41629-X)
“Denervation hypersensitivity is a phenomenon peculiar to smooth muscle innervated by the general visceral efferent system. Following denervation there is increased sensitivity of the muscle to neurotransmitters. This is evident in smooth muscle innervated by sympathetic neurons when the postganglionic axon is affected. Such denervated muscle shows hypersensitivity to the application of epinephrine or to circulating epinephrine released during excitement.” — (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/B9780721605616500198)
although my rheumatologist is in no position to give me a POTS diagnosis she very much agreed with the connections i made and said she thinks i am right on the mark with my conditions. she told me im a real academic patient and even that i’d be well suited for going into medicine lol. not only is it refreshing to have a doctor that doesn’t disregard their patient’s knowledge, but it’s good to see what i’ve learned about nerves from my biopsych classes (and in my own time for funsies) paying off in ways concerning my health. my mom who is a nurse also agrees that neuropathic POTS and erythromelalgia are what i have.
anyway the POTS symptoms have been a massive thing for me since puberty and the erythromelalgia developed a year or so after my POTS symptoms started. but i’ve always had freezing cold clammy hands and feet since i was a young child, they just hadn’t started changing colors and flaring until after i hit puberty. i’m not sure what destroyed the sympathetic nerve fibers in my legs (as most POTS happens in teenagers due to some viral illness but i’ve never had that?), i was also just tested for a bunch of autoimmune factors and disorders and my results came back negative. maybe it’s just a genetic factor, who knows, probably something caused by a hormone’s cascading effect gone awry at some point. it seems a lot of autistic afab people have POTS or some other type of dysautonomia for some reason and i’m curious as to why.
anyway i’m really stuck in a liminal space because i have no official diagnosis beyond “dysautonomia” but i’ve been sure of what it is for like over a year and it keeps getting clearer and clearer that i was right all along

Spardac3st shippers explaining on why they ship them:
Dante, Vergil and Nero: 💀💀💀
I'm going to open up a little bit on this topic and just why it fucking baffles me so much.
Cw: talk about SA variety themes coming from someone who has personal trauma with incest sexual assault and you know the "excuses" pros proshippers use as their "explanation" on why they think shit like this is okay. This is a very serious matter so read under the cut only if you feel comfortable I dont want to trigger anyone but proshippers are fucking gross
"They're fictional characters, separate fiction from reality." Fiction can absolutely have an effect on one's reality and romanticizing and sexualizing abuse, even if it is fictional is never okay and it's fucking sick.
"It's my coping mechanism!" Not all coping mechanisms are healthy and this type of shit can lead to a very ugly downward spiral.
"Just scroll." We do but you're shit is literally fucking everywhere and it's fucking gross, we can block tags, block certain keywords, and STILL your gross ass shit still pops up so it's hard to just "scroll"
I was sexually assaulted by a family member for several years when I was younger, someone I was taught to love and trust and he took advantage of me every single chance he could. But proshippers, Spardacest shippers in particular eat that shit up with their "art" and their "fics" because it's ""hot"" and it's ""tabbo"" they use for their fucking jerk material and a good fucking amount of them (the other half that's not the "it's my coping mechanism" crowd) probably don't give a fucking shit about me and other people trauma who have been through it personally - afterall we're all just "antis" to them, right? And they'll go out of their way and pull any excuse from the book for their justifications and their reasoning when called out.
Incest, no matter how you look at it in any form is assault its just something that should be fucking obvious that isn't okay and it just fucking worse with, again Spardacest shippers in particular, who have been known to fucking have """""""ship art""""""" of the child versions of Dante/Vergil together with the adult version of the other twin in, yes, a romantic and even sexual aspect. Fucking pedophilia. I've had to report more fucking incest shipper twitter accounts than the fingers on hands and toes on my feet combined because of twitters algorithm being so fucking dogshit because I personally follow a lot of dmc accounts for art/photography/and gameplay but Twitter sees that is like "Oh this person likes dmc better recommend them all of the dmc stuff including the incest shit and its fucking nauseating but at least for me it's better because I have a whole entire blocklist accumulated up so its not as bad but 😑 ugh I fucking hate twitter.
Anyway my point is proshipping gets into extremes I mean, and the fact that these people can go "it's just fiction 🤪" when it comes to incest and pedophilia concerns me, even if it's just "fiction" it's still fucking incest and pedophilia, what is the fucking reason to ship something like those? Just for your gross fetish? Because you think it's "hot"?
I just don't get it, looking back at my trauma to personally evaluate all of this I just can't understand it the romantism/fetishism proshippers have towards something that I was a victim of. And it certainly doesn't help to me personally a character as a kid I personally clung onto (vergil) and was kind of like an escape and a comfort character for me during those times I was attacked repeatedly over and over being used just for someone's incest rape fantasy is just very nauseating and always has been to me.
So yeah if anyone was curious of my stance on the issue, even though I hate the term "anti" because it makes the whole issue of people shipping abuse like incest and pedophilia just "fandom drama" instead of the serious of the issue I think it is, I'm definitely anti Spardacest without a doubt and that will never change.

"Polygon Wave EP" created by the change in the production system and the relationship with Yasutaka Nakata who came closer to Perfume (Natalie Interview Sep 2021)
Page 1 - about live show
Page 2
Which was the most memorable performance of this concert for you?
Kashiyuka: The first performance of "Polygon Wave (Original Mix)". Originally, we were going to perform the version that was released earlier, but when we were deciding which song to include on the EP, Yasutaka Nakata said, "This is the one!" About two weeks before the concert, I asked MIKIKO-sensei, "I'd like to change the song to this one, can you do the choreography in time? "I'll do my best at ......! (laughs).
I'll do my best." (laughs) That's pretty sudden.
"Polygon Wave" is also the title of the show, and this song was the concept that ran through the entire show.
Nocchi: But I didn't just say, "Let's record a song that will be important for the live performance. When I had a chance to talk with Mr. Nakata last December, he said, "Let's just record a song without thinking about what it's for. If it's good enough, you can use it for something else." He suggested that we go to the studio and record the song after it was written, and the first song we wrote was "Polygon Wave. The first song that came out of that process was "Polygon Wave." I think that kind of rough, uncomplicated feeling is easier for you now. All the songs we recorded this time have a different and new atmosphere. Among them, it seems that "Polygon Wave" was the first song that Nakata felt was appropriate for everyone to hear, and from that point on, we started talking about various things.
Kashiyuka: The songs "∞ Loop" and "Android &" that will be included in the EP were also recorded at that time. When we were recording, we hadn't talked about an EP yet, but since "Polygon Wave" was chosen as the theme song for "The Masked Singer," we decided to release a single. He said, "I want to put a lot of 'Polygon Wave'! I thought, "That's new" (laughs).
Nakata-san also likes this song a lot, doesn't he ?
Nocchi: I think Nakata-san had a clear idea of the world he wanted to show us. We also thought it was a great song, so we thought, "If that's the case, why don't we just release this one song first?" Then Mr. Nakata said, "If we make an EP, we'll make another version. We said, "If you're going to make another version, we'll do it live."
Kashiyuka: We've never had so many different mixes of the same song before, so we'd talk about things like, "Which 'Polygon Wave' should be the first song? We talked about it. I thought it was unusual for you to have such an opinion on the song order. It's always easy to decide, but we had many discussions.
"A closer relationship than that between "producers" and "singers.
Kashiyuka: In the past, we'd record songs after we'd decided on a release or a tie-up, but this time we were free to write and record without thinking about whether we'd use them or not, so the pace was faster than usual. When we were recording, people would say things like, "We might not use this song," but since we've already sung it, we've grown to love it (laughs). (laughs) So I sang it, thinking, "I hope it doesn't disappear. (laughs) So I sang the songs while thinking "I hope they don't disappear". In fact, I recorded songs that were not on the EP.
A~chan: Mr. Nakata's mode was different. He's always been a fast songwriter, but what happened to him?  It was so fast. I think he had a clear idea of what he wanted.
Nocchi: You and Nakata-san talked a lot before and after the recording, didn't you? We talked about our old music, our stance when being interviewed, what we hope Perfume will be like in the future, and what we want to do.
In the last interview, you said that there were only two songs that you made demos for and rejected (see Perfume "Perfume The Best "Cubed"" interview). That's a big difference.
What was the recording process like?
A~chan: we talked for hours.
Your relationship with Nakata-san is completely different from what I've heard from everyone.
Nocchi: Yes. Before, we used to talk about such things only in the occasional discussions. Nakata-san used to only reveal a little bit of what he was thinking, but this time, he was overflowing with it on .......
Kashiyuka: This time, I was happy to feel that we were working together at a closer distance than the previous relationship of "producer" and "singers". "I thought, "Oh, it was easier for Mr. Nakata to work this way. I'm not sure why I didn't realize that until now (laughs).
I'm curious to know what songs you recorded but didn't include in the EP.
Kashiyuka: The song we played at the end of the live the other night is also not on the EP, but we recorded it at that time. We don't even know if that song is finished (laughs). (laughs) But I liked that song so much from the moment we recorded it that I told MIKIKO that I wanted it to be included in the live set list.
It's rare to play a song in its current state in a live performance. In rock bands, they sometimes show off songs that they are still working on.
Kashiyuka: That's true (laughs).
Nocchi: But we wanted to sing that song at this live, because it expresses the message that Perfume wants to convey to the fans now. It might not be released for a long time, or it might not be released at all, but we were aware that this live performance would remain as a video for a long time.

`A desert world where all organic matter is made up of digital bits.`
So, I felt that both "∞ Loop" and "Android &" selected for this song are similar to the world view of "Polygon Wave".
Nocchi: I like both of them very much. The music is stylish and light without being mechanical, but "∞ Loop" is about the scary feeling of living in a world where time loops, and "Android &" is about falling in love with an android.
A-chan: Nakata-san told me the meaning of the lyrics. The main character of "Android &" is actually an android who thinks he's completely human. That's why the title of the song ends with "&", but it's supposed to be like "Android & Human". It's interesting, isn't it?
Kashiyuka: But we didn't know the titles of either "∞ Loop" or "Android &" until the songs were announced (laughs). (laughs) When we were recording, we said "loop" and "android", so we thought that was the name of the song, but when the information was released and we read the news article, it said something different. "But when I read the news article after the information was released, it said something different. "Is this "&" a typo? I thought, "Is this okay? I contacted them just to make sure. I asked him if it was okay, and he said, "Nakata-san told me it's "Android &". The other song is called "Mugen Loop" (laughs).
Nocchi: The lyrics of "Android &" are kind of harsh, looking at the world from a bird's eye view (laughs).  It's a song with a clear story, so I hope you'll write a story based on it.
A~chan: It looks like it's going to be hard to draw the CG (laughs).
Kashiyuka: But we can probably cover the motion with the data we've collected so far (laughs). I feel that Nakata-san had envisioned a total world in this EP.  He wanted to express the whole thing like a movie.
That's right. I thought it was a very conceptual composition that "∞ Loop" depicts a world that keeps rebooting at the end of the day, and the song "System Reboot", which means "reboot", is included at the end of the same work.
Kashiyuka: Nakata-san's image for this EP is "a beautiful & broad desert, but all the trees and organic matter growing there are made of digital bits. It's a world with a sense of discomfort," he said.
Director Yusuke Tanaka's signature "Wow, I'm so scared"
You made a dance practice video for "Polygon Wave", didn't you? It was the first time for Perfume to make a video focusing on the choreography, but it seems that there was a demand for a video where you can see every detail of the body movements, and the response was great.
Nocchi: I'm so happy (laughs). It's not often that I get to dance in sneakers, so it was fun to film.
A~chan: Whenever I appear on a music program, I always take a short video of myself dancing and submit it to the TV station. I can't show that kind of footage to the public, but the atmosphere of the dance practice video is similar to that. It's hard to dance in heels, so just wearing sneakers made it really easy.
I heard that you're working on a music video for this song, will there be a lot of dance scenes in the music video?
Nocchi: Basically, it's like a dance video.
Kashiyuka: But we just shot it, so I haven't watched it yet (laughs).
A~chan: It's a video with a clear world view, so I'm sure you'll understand how to listen to this song by watching it. Is this real? Is this real or is this virtual? In the music video, the three of us are driving together, and in the middle of the road, we're like, "What? It ends with Yusuke Tanaka's signature "Wow, this is so scary! (laughs). During the shooting, I was dancing so hard that my legs became sticks.
The choreography is quite complicated, isn't it?  It's a collage of past songs, updated with the skills of the three of us, and it's the culmination of Perfume's dancing to date.
A~chan: What! Is that so? I thought you were doing it consciously, but it's not like that?
Nocchi: I wasn't conscious of it at all. To be honest, I just thought, "I've never done all these moves before" (laughs).(laughs)
Kashiyuka: When I was being choreographed, I took it as "new movements for a new song", so I didn't feel anything special. But we didn't talk about such messages.
A~chan: I thought that the arrangement of the song had various old tastes. I thought, "That sound in the background is the one they used in 'Polyrhythm'! It brings back memories! I'm nostalgic!
─ Speaking of which, the newly recorded "Polygon Wave (Remix)" is a very interesting remix, with a series of tones and phrases that remind me of various Perfume songs.
A~chan: I think Nakata-san has that planned out! I mean, he said something like that, didn't he?
Oh, so that's what he said. I was listening to the song thinking that it was like a concept live "Reframe" that reconstructed Perfume with the most advanced production, and that it was like your own "Reframe" that reconstructed Perfume's history in one song.
A~chan: Yes, yes. When you've been doing this for a long time, you get to make this kind of music. In many cases, remixes are done in a way that is different from the artist's usual style, as if to say, "This could be interpreted in this way," but this remix has more of a Perfume feel to it.
Nocchi: Yeah, I was expecting it to be weirder, but when I listened to it, it sounded so much like Perfume (laughs).

GRAY’S CHARACTER ANALYSIS PART III. AMNESIA AND IT’S FUTURE CONSEQUENCES
Hello! Once again: sorry for the lateness 8'D. My work, some illustrations and personal matters have slowed me down again. The good thing is that there is nothing that can be intervened and this week I will be able to go faster with the writing of my analysis. Thank you very much for the continued support you have given to the previous two parts, and I hope you like this one too!
PS: My analysis will continue as normal, I will not mention anything about the recent interview with the show runner of the series. Perhaps that will be done at the end of the analysis or a separate post, by the time Gray's analysis is complete. Besides that I have already been giving my views on what Duane said about Gray. For the moment I just want my analysis to be about everything that I captured and analyzed before the interview.
Here we go!
Tumblr media
Goodbye (for now) to Gray/Crackle, and let's say hi to Graham!
As we know, Crackle had all his VILE-related memories erased, and he’s now a happy civilian at his previous job as an electrician at the Sydney Opera House. On a mission to Australia, Carmen finds him but he doesn't recognize her.
Tumblr media
Carmen doesn’t understand how it happened and why VILE did it, but for his sake, she prefers to get away from her, because she doesn’t want to complicate the new beginning that Gray/Graham has now in her life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To be honest, I don't have much to analyze in depth about Gray in these chapters where he has amnesia, even so, there are several points to highlight about him that speak more about his personality in this episode:
1.- When he taking out Carmen with her phrase "No wristband, no backstage access", I think I can safely say that he’s committed to his job, whatever it is. (as an electrician and also a VILE agent)
Tumblr media
2.- He has great self-confidence and temperance for having invited Carmen for a coffee, a girl he barely knew but who shows that he has a slight attraction for her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3.- Well, let's say that this confirms that he likes to be somewhat "naughty" and daring with his actions.
Tumblr media
4.- I may be exaggerating here, but I think that with the previous points that I have said, this can also count: It seems that Gray is a punctual person. He arrived before Carmen. (He’s very punctual or he was very excited about the "date")
Tumblr media
Ep.6 S1 served as a small introduction by Gray, or rather now Graham, of how now he has amnesia, he doesn't remember anything about VILE, or Carmen, a whole year "disappeared", as well as the decision of Carmen about being away from Gray so as not to complicate his life. Leaving a slight reminder of "you'll still see him again" for us.
Which did happen, in Ep.7 of S2. In addition to the fact that again there are some data that show about his personality, this time the episode left some clues that it was happening to him and the future that would hold him in the following seasons.
1.- It seems that he was serious that this place is his favorite coffee shop, and it seems that he likes coffee.
Tumblr media
2.- That tranquility is to be admired. The girl he invited for coffee who looked like she had dumped him, and there wasn’t a hint of anger/resentment/indignation in him. Again, like when they first met: as if nothing had happened. I love that about him. And he continues to correct Carmen about his name. He is Graham, not Gray (not Crackle). It seems somehow that he cares about being told by his respective name, as if the subject of his "identity" is important to him. We will move on to that later.
Tumblr media
3.- Can we look this screenshot for a moment, please? Leaving aside the “Red Crackle” feeling that can emerge at this time for many (myself included), I want to talk about the fact that there continues that communication with only the look that they have always had.
The first two chapters of the series showed you several scenes of how Carmen and Gray just by looking at each other communicated what they thought, they knew they wanted to say to each other. I mention this because to me, these glances between them were purposely done with the following objective: Yes, Gray will have had his VILE memories suppressed, but body memory is another matter, the subconscious is something that NOBODY can handle or manipulate. Gray's body responded to Carmen's glances subconsciously, the body responded because of body memory, because it already has that mechanism in the presence of Carmen.
Tumblr media
4.- There is a theory/belief that a few weeks ago they shared which if I can believe it 50/50 because it sounds valid. In summary. Since Gray is an orphan, Carmen knew that by mentioning that she runs an international charity for abandoned children, he would not refuse. Because she knows he's an orphan, and it seems that somehow, Gray has had a mark on it. She left you the link.
5.- Again, maybe I'm exaggerating, b Gray/Graham seems to have very good manners.
Tumblr media
6.- He likes Rock. (And before I thought it was a slight preview of Carmen's next cappers, but it was only an idea *sobbing*)
Tumblr media
7.-
Tumblr media
This scene causes me a little laugh because of a personal event and because it shows an interesting side of Gray/Graham:
- Personal event: Several friends and I were watching the episodes of the second season on the day of its premiere, when arriving at this scene, a friend said "Well of course, he will have amnesia but he isn’t stupid" I laughed uncontrollably, and in part, he had a bit of reason.
- This scene in addition to putting tension at the moment because Graham did something that wasn't in Carmen's plans, it shows how Gray/Graham is someone who needs answers/explanations when he something doesn't understand, or when he thinks they lied to him and he just goes to look for them. Because if he were too passive or behaved, he would have stayed to follow orders. Another thing he could do is just make judgments from his perspective, regardless of reality. But no, he stood up, and he couldn't wait another second for the answers. The truth is something that matters to him. And I think he's also somewhat rebellious. He makes sense because throughout the series it's noticed as if he wants/needs something, certainly does what he needs to do. I consider him too independent and confident that he can achieve it.
8.- His peculiar expression of surprise: Crikey.

9.- Another reminder that  his subconscious and unconscious have memories of what he lived in VILE.
Tumblr media
10.- Beautiful Red Crackle scenes that in addition to adding feeling, actually matter a lot for Gray / Crackle's empathy in the future, but that will be for part 4 of the analysis.

…Seriously Gray? EXCUSE ME Graham. SERIOUSLY? You fell, you could have hit severely or even broken something, Carmen cares about you, and instead of saying "I'm fine" do you say "It's Graham"?! ... Seriously he cares a lot about the name and identity.
As you can see, in this episode there was more about Gray and his personality, but it also hinted that there are still vestiges of memories in the back of his mind of that year in VILE and of having been Crackle. It's very curious about how Graham trusts Carmen so much, I think I know the reasons behind it, the first is because he has an attraction towards Carmen, but the most important are two: the first is because he already knows more about her, because Carmen had the confidence to ask him for help in one of his missions and to tell him in some way what she does. The second reason, again: his subconscious. As I mentioned in the previous analysis parts, Gray appreciated Carmen very much, and although before he could mistake it as "loyalty" and see her as her family, he still appreciated her very much. Her subconscious, her body, her instinct is still there, so I don't hesitate to defend her when she was in trouble with Neel. (His desire to help Carmen was greater than the "great memory and liking" he previously had for Crackle Rod.)

And well, now, let's move on to two last things before ending this episode:
1.- ACME is targeting Gray. Once again, we were told that it would not be the last time we would see him. More events awaited him.

2.-
Tumblr media
This phrase left me so thoughtful when I watched it. It left me thinking TOO MUCH.
It left me pondering that phrase so much because I didn't understand why that mattered so much to him. We talked about how Gray/Crackle came into VILE, he agreed to be a villain, he basically agreed to be "bad guy" And now that he has amnesia, he cared about being on the right side. Which I didn't understand because Crackle's memory had been "erased". He had only "eliminated" him the whole year that he lived in VILE, just that. Doing that doesn't change his morale, because Gray had already arrived at the "Vocational School" with his morale of wanting to steal, he was already ambitious before joined to VILE. Which had me very intrigued, believing that something had happened to Graham, in that period of his "normal life" that had made him reconsider his morals and that now he wanted to do something good. I expected everything, whatever, except the change in morals. And so, wild first 5 minutes from S4 comes...
Tumblr media
... are you telling me that EVERYTHING Gray thought, did and said in his state of amnesia... WERE LIES!?
I really couldn't believe it and that puts an absolutely huge twist on Gray's arc. Although my boyfriend and I are with a certain difference in perspective to what Maelstrom said:
When he mentioned “suppress the criminal impulse” to me he meant that VILE changed his morale, that they basically took away that “evil impulse” so that he wouldn’t be caught again by the law should it happen at some point. Ensuring that with memory removed and morale changed, VILE was safe.
My boyfriend on the other hand, interpreted it that they only took away the "desire to steal", nothing more. His morals, his beliefs, everything about him remains the same, except wanting to steal or do something criminal. Believing that in reality, Gray is a good person, since before entering VILE.
The perspective of my boyfriend is interesting to me and that is why I want to share it, to know what you think, and also mentioned it because this perspective will be taken up again in part 4 of the analysis.
And here concludes the third part! I hope you liked it. Parts 4 and 5 will be a bit long because it’s the most dense and symbolic part of Gray to analyze, but at the same time, they will come out on time faster, it may be that in the following week both parts are ready and published.  Regards!

Interview with Half Shy (the songwriter of “Monster”)
For the last few months, I’ve been collecting information for a second edition of Exploring the Land of Ooo that will also cover the production of Distant Lands. This means that I’ve started to look into the new songs that we have been graced with this year, and this of course includes “Monster,” the beautiful track from the masterpiece that is “Obsidian”. And so I reached out to the song’s writer, Half Shy, who was kind enough to chat with me via email about the songwriting process!

In many ways, Half Shy is living the creative Adventure Time fan’s dream: She got asked by Adam Muto himself to write a song for “Obsidian” after he heard her music through Bandcamp! (I’ve dabbled in fan music before, and the fact that someone from the show might listen to it just blows my mind.) What an opportunity; I am so excited for her!
Since a second edition of my book won’t be coming out until after all the Distant Lands episodes air, I thought it would be best to share my Half Shy interview now. Read on for the fascinating behind the scenes story of how Half Shy and “Monster” came to be..
GunterFan: What is your origin story? How did you get involved in music, and how did the Half Shy project come to be?
Half Shy: I’ve been making music pretty quietly since I was in high school with a keyboard and guitar. I played one or two shows a year after college when I could find a friend or my brother to get up on stage with me, but I don’t really have that performer gene in me naturally. I get too much in my head and forget what the lyrics are to the song I wrote, or what the next chord is. Total brain freeze. So that whole experience is a bit of a mental drain. It’s something I think I’d like to dig into and figure out, but right now I’m really enjoying the time writing.
Even playing a song for my friends I still get pretty nervous. That’s where the name Half Shy comes from. I’ve always been interested in making things that by their nature draw a bit of a spotlight, but at the same time, I am just really quite nervous about the attention.
I recorded my first songs under my old name Hey V Kay in my bedroom and started putting them up online one at a time. When I got enough I thought about packaging it up into an album, but then got really distracted by learning how to fix up motorcycles and going to automotive tech school. When I eventually got back around to it I named the album Gut Wrenching.
After a few years I realized that I didn’t want the day-in-day-out life of a mechanic, I just wanted to know how to fix cars for myself and to have that knowledge in my back pocket. I got back into making music but grew frustrated at the process of writing and recording songs. I felt like I wasn’t able to capture the ideas I had in my head. Like trying to draw on your computer with a mouse. Doable, but it’s not going to come out like you’d hoped.
So these last couple of years I’ve focused more on learning the technical aspect of it, from the initial ideas and lyrics, to the recording and mixing. During that process I put out Bedroom Visionaries, and while writing I happened upon the name Half Shy in an old Thesaurus which felt instantly right. Learning all of that has been fun, I even went as far as to create my own book to solidify a daily writing routine (lyricworkbook.com). All that has been a bit of a tangent from actually making much music though. I should be getting my books in December from the press so I’m really looking forward to getting back into making more music instead of dealing with printing presses, setting up websites, and sourcing ribbon suppliers.
GF: What is the story behind "Monster"? How did the show get in contact with you?
HS: I keep a log of “Song Starters” with neat things I’ve heard in the world, and I would look through it every now and then and notice just how many came from Adventure Time. Eventually I thought well, I have to make a song about this show that just keeps breaking my heart. It was around the time I was nearly done with the first [Adventure Time-inspired] song “In My Element” that I got an email from Bandcamp saying “someone bought your album (Bedroom Visionaries).”
I get maybe one or two of these a month at most so I love to go in and say hi to the person and say thanks, be curious about who they are, [and] what they’re all about. Turns out it was Adam Muto, the executive producer of the show. (I asked and he has no idea how he happened upon my stuff. He guessed that I must have tagged something #adventuretime and he just happened to see it.) So I sent him an email saying, “Hey wow thanks for checking out my tunes. Also... holy crap you’ve made the best show I have ever seen in my life.” [I] played it real cool like. After finishing up writing my second [Adventure Time-inspired] song “Betty” I couldn’t help but fangirl real hard [and I sent him another message saying], “I’m sorry this is probably awkward, but I really love your show and I wrote these songs about it.” He was incredibly kind and shared them with his Twitter Universe, and a while after that I got a random email from him saying basically, “Hey, I’m working on this thing I can’t talk about, would you be interested?” I was like… well you know I’m pretty busy working at a sign shop so I’m gonna have to pass on this once in a lifetime opportunity (J/K. Obviously I fan-girl squealed and said yes immediately).
We chatted a bit about what the project was going to be and the direction. He mentioned there [would be] two Marceline songs in the special, [and he asked if I] would I be interested in giving the love song a try? Trying real hard to suppress my instant imposter syndrome I was like, “Yea, totally I’d be into giving that a shot!” So I read through the story and loved the idea of the dragon mirrored in Marceline, thinking through how they’ve both built up a protective shell, how she grew tough for a reason, but now she can open up and be vulnerable with PB.
From there I wrote the initial demo with the first two verses mostly intact and we went back and forth a few times editing it down into the final version. I recorded the final parts for the show in my little home studio in Seattle.
GS: When you were writing the song, what emotions, thoughts, or ideas were you channeling? Was there any sort of memory of event that you were trying to artistically "catch" or "recreate" with the lyrics or music?
HS: As far as channeling an emotion, generally I’d say just the experience of existing as a human. It can be so hard to open up and be vulnerable. I can remember that feeling even as a young kid—getting really excited about something and having someone completely trash it or look at you like, “Why are you so interested in that? It’s dumb.” [It causes us to grow] a little more weary to share ourselves because we know that hurt and embarrassment. The pain of being misunderstood is something I think a lot of us can relate to. Then having to decide whether to keep sharing those vulnerable parts of yourself or think, “They’re just not going to get it, I’m going to get hurt, so why bother?” and then stop putting yourself out there. You lose a lot with that thick armor though. You might feel protected, but you’re not feeling a whole lot of anything else other than the weight and chafing of it (I had a whole lot of armor-related metaphors that I didn't end up using.).
I struggle with this in songwriting too. I’m not the bolt-of-lightning type. There are pages and pages of cliches, total garbage, bad jokes, and cheesy lines that I have to get through in order to get to something that I am excited to put out there into the world: “Here I did this thing, I know it’s a little (this or that), but I made it... What do you think?” It’s hard to open yourself up to hearing the other end of that question.
I filled about 5 little pocket notebooks just thinking through the story, ideas, and trying to get this song right. I wanted it to feel familiar and honor the past songs of the show ([e.g.,] using the ukulele and referencing a few of the familiar chords from “I’m Just Your Problem”) but also be pretty open and vulnerable and different for [Marceline]. [I wanted to] show that she’s going through some tough emotions but also figuring herself out and growing.
GF: I feel like “Monster” is, at its core, an ode to the “Bubbline” ship. How do you feel about your song being intimately connected to one of the most famous LGBTQ+ relationships in animation? Do you have any general thoughts on Marcy and PB, Bubbline, etc.?
HS: Oh, I’m a total fan girl of Bubbline. The whole story of how Rebecca Sugar and Muto slowly morphed it into this deeper relationship is just great. As a part of the LGBTQ community myself it really means so much to see the representation of characters like yourself portrayed in an intelligent way. Growing up I was too young to fully understand what was going on but I saw Ellen getting cancelled, and [I] heard people around me saying they’d never watch her show again after she came out. That stuff sinks in as a kid and so to have these characters who are not only intelligent, but funny, complex, and unapologetically strong who also happen to be queer is really great. I love that the story here isn’t about their orientation, but that they’re people struggling with how to be open and vulnerable in a relationship.
It feels like something sci-fi and animated shows do so well—to show that ridiculousness of limiting who a person should and shouldn’t love. Marceline is a 1000+ year old half-demon/vampire and PB was born from the Mothergum of an apocalyptic radioactive world, but you’re going to get hung up on them loving each other? It sort of brings it into perspective in a really interesting way.
GF: Do you have any other thoughts about the experience that you'd like to share?
HS: Just how lucky, thankful, and honored I feel to be a part of my favorite show, writing a song for one of my favorite characters. It’s also incredibly cool how the people on the show are so willing to connect and collaborate with their fandom. Everyone [on the production crew] was very open and a real joy to work with.
I’d like to give a huge “Thank you!” to Half Shy for agreeing to participate in this interview; she really was quite amiable! If you’d like to hear more of her music, check out her website and her Bandcamp. You can also follow her on Instragram here and on Twitter here. And of course, here is Half Shy’s awesome video of “Monster”.
