i really dont disagree with you, i just dont think theres any harm in being annoyed by how seemingly every piece of media that gains any traction these days is “50 year old franchise being resurrected because people cant let go of it and it makes the companies money: installment #400” or whatever, especially when its all you ever hear about from your friends and coworkers and family. cant exactly unplug from that lol. youre right though, people on here definitely get too absorbed in being angry about things they cant control. i dont think youre interested in arguing about it and neither am i so i wont prolong this, just wanted to try to explain where people on that post were coming from.

The thing is though, being annoyed about it online is still interacting with it.

It certainly is annoying but algorithms exist that will pick up any mention of specific phrases and count them towards hits, and I don't believe that those algorithms know the difference between a shit review, an "I'm never going to watch this" tweet, and a positive review. Bad attention is still attention, no such thing as bad publicity, etc. The only way you win here, online, is to block mentions of [specific franchise] so you aren't tempted to interact with it, and overall pretend none of it exists. I know there's new Pokemon, Scooby Doo, GoT, star wars, etc games movies and shows out but I have a lot of phrases related to those franchises blacklisted on Tumblr (and I don't use other social media) so when someone on the dash starts posting about any of it, most of the time all I see is a blocked post lol

As far as IRL family friends and coworkers, I was able to get people to stop trying to talk about these things with me by telling them, the first time they try to initiate this conversation, that I have no interest in any of this kind of stuff. "I haven't seen the movies and I probably wont." And if they insist on talking to me about it anyway I just kinda.... Stop listening lol. You know that thing you can do where you just kinda avoid eye contact and say "mhm..... Mhm...... Mhm...." Through a whole conversation? It works, they'll take the hint eventually. The secret is just not engaging.

something i've been thinking about:

Wally is set up as a sort of "main character" by the whrp. he's said in the site's description of the show to have introduced the main theme/lesson of the day's episode, and then the rest of the neighbors join him on his escapades. but then we have our first glimpses of everyone's actual dynamics and characters through the audios and you look at Wally and its like

first of all, thats an npc. second, nearly everybody else has severe main character syndrome

but its fascinating how Wally is just kind of... There. he doesnt talk much. he doesnt contribute beyond a couple of lines. its more like he joins the others on their shenanigans. he fades into the background. he's off to the side while everyone else holds conversations & leads the moment

Wally, despite being described as Thee character, is borderline background.

& whats even more interesting, within his individual secret audio files and interactions - he's almost chatty. not only that but the way he talks is more confident and faster paced. he's taking initiative. he can be kinda pushy. when talking to the qa/whrp/Us, he acts more like the character his descriptions portray. he acts more like a person instead of a puppet waiting for his next cue

I cant tell if - when around the neighbors - his tepid milk behavior is a purposeful act or if he's masking. and if he's masking, is it deliberate or involuntary? and in regards to both, why is he acting so different? It could be tied to what he's trying to accomplish. if he's trying to "restore" Welcome Home, it would make sense for him to act as he does around the neighbors - he wouldnt want to clue them in that he knows so much more than he's letting on, would he?

but then that begs another train of thought - what if he isn't acting or masking? if there is a time discrepancy between Wally's interactions with the qa/whrp/Us & the more 'official' audios, that could explain the difference in behavior. we could be getting glimpses into "future" (read: current) Wally, who's had much more time to figure himself out since we can safely assume he started out as a blank slate. we could be seeing a more experienced Wally than the one seen with his friends.

of course that line of thinking loses some merit when considering the 14 "bug" audios. or it could lend to it... if we're seeing a more experienced Wally but his friends are only seeing what he allows them to. it's still him, just... a carefully curated version.

in general it could really tie into the themes of identity and change and being other, to me. when you're so different - or you feel so different - that you can't bring yourself to be your most authentic you around your friends. when you feel like you have to hold back and be who you think they expect you to be, or what would be most palatable. most normal. will they accept you as you really are? there's always the fear and terror that the people you consider closest to you won't. or when you're so scared of change that you'll shove down & lock away parts of yourself so that you can keep things as you are. because once they know you've changed, so will they. and really, do you want to even accept that you've changed? what if that's what scares you most of all - that you're different, you've metamorphosized, you can't go back to the way things were because you yourself are no longer the person you were before. there is no reversing this no matter how much you try or pretend

[episode 4 spoilers] i don't think some people are getting the medusa/annabeth parallel right.

i saw a lot of people on twt saying that this time percy sacrificed himself for annabeth (as he was the one to fight the chimera), but that's not what i think the parallel is about.

athena punishes annabeth with disappointment, when everything annabeth wanted was her respect and approval. and yet athena punishes her because of percy's (son of poseidon) actions. that's the punishment, and that annabeth didn't escape.

then athena "gives her a second chance", at least that how i interpret it: she lets the chimera enter her temple, a sacred place, to test annabeth's loyalty, to see if annabeth would put her respect and love towards her mother over percy, again, and annabeth knows this, yet she still chooses percy: the right move, what athena wants, is not for annabeth to fight the chimera, it is for annabeth to embrace her spring and be logical, be strategic – to let percy behind. that's the right and smart move: percy was useless for the mission as he was wounded, the smart war move was to sacrifice him. and annabeth disappointed athena, once more, by trying not to.

even worse? that didn't matter. it didn't matter that she went against her mother wishes for percy, again, because he sacrificed himself anyway. because he played hero. late enough for it to be clear what annabeth was about to do. once again, percy took annabeth's chance to gain her mother's approval, and once again he got victorious in her place: he gained his father's, poseidon, help, he earned it with his heroic gesture; and annabeth, again, disappointed athena.

worse? medusa warned annabeth, they were the same: they wanted athena's love and fought for it, but then poseidon/percy got in the way. and yet both medusa and annabeth were the ones to suffer athena's disapproval.

percy didn't save annabeth from meeting medusa's fate. he helped it happen, he played his rol (unknowingly) as the son of poseidon

cora’s bad time hell simulation steps or how to play “sprite station for girl” “harvest moon ds cute” the wrong way

ok so here’s what my disorganized “guide” to myself for harvest moon ds for girl (aka indecipherable notes i wrote to myself as i played and revised as i tested various things and restarted due to mistakes) looks like. at some point when i become a real gamer i will write a legible guide meant for eyes to look at but uhhh this is how i play this accursed game personally

i’m not sure if anything i wrote will make any sense since i wrote it as notes to myself so probably definitely use fogu and fc2 jonason wiki (may not work but some pages should be archived) instead

ALSO if you’ve never played or barely played the game it won’t make sense at all! hmds was my first harvest moon so i am used to various horrors!

my play style is probably not fun in general HOWEVER if you are a grinding hell goblin like me then it’s GREAT!!!! if not you may still find it amusing that the game gives you permission to play like this

(it’s a great background task game while doing like productive stuff but otherwise playing this way would probably be unbearable)

anyway after that the days go a lot faster, you’ll get the island on summer 1, so on spring 30 i put all my money into million G tickets and sell 200 of em, do the 5x money thing, and save the rest. so when thomas comes the next day to sell you the 900 million G island you can just sell 180 tickets and do the 5x money thing again with like ~600 million G tickets left over. it takes up inventory but you’ll get the shelf in a few days. basically you just need to remember to order from the TV shopping every saturday and place orders with gotz and gray whenever they finish stuff.

random tips

after unlocking the fuckass hot spring sprites (the ones that require you to spend a total of 700 1 hour sessions in the hot springs) i usually grind grazing points— if you put your animals outside for 5 hours you get a “Love Point”, but if you interact with them after they earn that LP then the timer switches over and you can get another LP after 5 more hours. if you wear the time ring the whole time it’s 2.5 hours. i’m not very good at explaining this but basically if you’re super efficient you can get way more animal LP than you realistically should, which is great because the touch glove petting minigame is Bad!!!!

i usually wait on getting the rest of the purple sprites (the ones that require you to hire the purple team and ask for healing) until i’m totally done with the indigo team, cuz i wanna get HG’s purple heart event asap, but you can switch the order if you want

by summer y1 you’ll basically have a feel for everything. aside from Skye, Leia, HG and WP everyone can be married early-mid autumn if you want

if you want to Gay (in the japanese version only) keira is the quickest to marry. leia is the quickest to max affection but it’s impossible to get leia year 1 because the bottle you need to fish up can only be caught in spring. you have to wait until at least year 5 for WP and iirc year 6 for HG.

Brutally Honest Design Opinion Time P.2: Badrien and Claw Noir

(Good lord, I'm super late with this one lol)

Part 1

Starting with Claw Noir. I disliked it more initially, but parts of it have grown on me. The suit is fine for the most part, except I'm not a fan of the bell, I think the spikes would be better served in other places. But that hair and those eyes... eugh... There are ways to make a clashing color pallet work, and this ain't it. A different shade of green, and more purple accents would suit this look better, and the hair needs just a little less volume. I do like the way the jacket changes up his silhouette slightly, I think they should've pushed that a bit more. And the black lipstick is a nice touch.

Next, Badrien.... Gentrified punk. Punk Lite. Diet Punk. Punk La Croix. In other words; I dont like it. I like the direction they're going for, but it feels like they didn't commit. Everything he's wearing is clearly still designer. It's all way too high end and expensive to really sell the rebellious look that I think they were aiming for. Also, why the shoulder pads? It just looks like the changes from the original short sleeved 3D model are unfinished.

Character development for my 6th year of running a Death Note blog is that I'm going to attempt to stop disliking Mello the most and find some things to enjoy about him
