For the last/surnames for your mjv pieces, is there any specific meanings/symbolism when you give them those surnames? Like “Hinoki” for Kieran & Carmine, since Hinoki means “cypress” and it’s a real life tree.

YES, THERE IS!! i'm also an autistic person who's obsessed with name etymology so i love giving characters ( original or otherwise ) names that symbolizes something about them or something they're associated with.

since i didn't do this before, i'm gonna use this as an excuse to explain the etymology behind the full names i gave the SV kids! some of them are more interesting than others, fair warning.

Ok so I just answered an ask about this with a bit about the inspiration and approach I'm taking to this fic so this one I'm going to list some of my favorite plot points in no particular order:

This is a "modern au" so everyone has normal jobs, such as:

Investigative journalist who lives on a houseboat

Mob boss

Lead singer for a punk band which is actually a front for an eco-terrorist group

Karate sensei

Drag racer

Ex-MI6 butler

California surfer bro

Dark Pit, given the option refers to himself exclusively as "The Dark Falcon of Vengeance" or similar because I couldn't stretch my suspension of disbelief enough to call him Dark or to give him a different name entirely (much as I love @stonemaskedtaliesin's Pip, it just doesn't fit in the context I'm going with)

Dark Pit's actual name in this is Pit Pairisetti, and Pit's name is Pit Pasupati. Dark Pit's name is a more alliterative romanization of Bairisetty, a Telugu surname which means something like "falcon," which I thought was appropriate. Pasupati is a Hindi surname which was mostly picked because I liked the way it sounded and wanted both of their surnames to start with the same letter, giving the camp counselors an excuse to call them Dark Pit and Light Pit instead of just using their last initials.

Pit is going to mostly accidentally steal a team of horses from Hades as part of an escape when he's doing something with the Forces of Nature as the analog to the canonical Lightning Chariot. It will be glorious.

There is a Sonic expy who will never appear on-screen who is Phosphora's greatest nemesis (and possibly ending scene implied love interest, depends on if I think of anything funnier)

The background ship is past Palutena/Medusa and I haven't yet decided how much reconciliation they will do. Less than in The Parent Trap, for sure, but maybe more than I originally planned.

Medusa and Dark Pit know all the sorry details about their breakup, but Palutena never explained it to Pit

Despite their incredible athletic skills, both Pits sink like a rock in water.

As you might have gathered from their names, I am making Palutena and Medusa Indian, specifically from Northern India and Southern India, respectively. This is mostly because I can and encouraged by the fact that there's a species of parakeets from India that have naturalized to Greece. I'm pretty sure they're the ones from the tumblr poem about unmannerly peas, which is one of my all time favorites, so even better.

They met in Hyderabad and decided to marry each other instead of waiting around for whatever arranged marriage their families had planned for them. This is also why neither of them can go home because they would literally rather die than hear their aunt sigh and go "this is why blah blah blah."

They won the houseboat from Poseidon in a poker game. Palutena played the cards, Medusa helped her cheat.

The divorce was really ugly. Like, dragged through all the tabloids levels of ugly. Pit doesn't know about it because all of his electronics have parental controls about that specifically. It ruined Medusa's PI firm, which is why she now works for the mob boss.

This is why Pit just knows about the bad things Medusa has done (there was a REASON the divorce was ugly and it was not all Palutena's fault) but Dark Pit knows about things that Palutena said about him, specifically.

The Pits spend some time at camp bonding in the counselors-only Jacuzzi, and possibly over a camp play. Can't decide how much Addams Family Values I want to throw in.

Hades has eaten human hearts before, but prefers Amazon River Dolphin. He says the stench of evil ruins the taste.

Despite all the plot I have planned out (this is going to be so much longer than TFP) I feel like I have so much less of it planned out than TFP (which, to be fair, is a murder mystery). It's always a big shift to jump from one to the other, and it's going to be even more of a shift once I finish TFP and start editing and posting in earnest, but I'm looking forward to trying a different style of editing when I get there!

He has many critics and people that doubt his true intentions and credibility - many said he married for money - but public support outweighed all the trolls' negative comments and drowned the haters' opinions. It helped that he married one of the public's sweethearts.

Hasun also

From a young age, the boy was drawn to magic, showing interest in any kind of it. Including the "dark" one. Despite other people's prohibitions and instructions, boy sincerely didn't understand how one magic differs from another, if it is used correctly and does not harm anyone. So, in secret from everyone, Esbern began to learn the dangerous magic.

While boy was growing up, he continued to help his father in trade, and spent his free time in local bookstores. Having reached the age of majority, Esbern realized that he couldn't continue to stay in his native places: he was drawn to knowledge. It was too dangerous to practice dark magic in Baldur's Gate, and he wanted to learn the necromancy. At the age of twenty-two, he left his father's house, going for the first time on a solo journey in order to find a teacher and learn the magic of the dead.

Unfortunately, he was unable to advance far due to unexpected attack of the illithids who captured him on their ship. So thats how Esbern's story began.

Main goals: Get rid of tadpoles; help friends; prove that dark magic can be used for good; learn necromancy.

His life quote is the words of his mother: "Remember, Esbern, now you are just a little bear cub for whom the rapid streams of life are too exciting and dangerous, but one day you will become a strong bear, able to overcome even the most powerful river flow. Remember, my little boy, no matter what difficulties you face, determination and desire to achieve your goal will help you reach the very end"

Full Name: Cheasequah Awenasa

Cheasequah: The name Cheasequah is derived from the Tsalagi language and it means Red Cardinal Bird. Cain didn't receive his first name until a week after his birth. His great-grandmothers, grandmothers, and mother all participated in naming him, just as they had for other relatives around his age. They chose Cheasequah, inspired by the bright, windy day with sun-dappled maroon leaves that match the colors of a Red Cardinal Bird.

Awenasa: The name Awenasa is derived from the Cherokee Language and it means My Home. Native Americans did not adopt the custom of having surnames until 1900. Therefore, the only recorded Awenasa was a young man who went by the name of Salonitah “Sharp Shooter” Awenasa. Salonitah never knew his father as he died before he was born. In honor of his mother, he took her name "Awenasa" and used it as his official surname. She passed away in 1905.

Life Stages

Childhood: In the early days of Cain's life, joy and health were prevalent. His parents chose to be hands-on and hands-off when necessary, a sentiment echoed by his extended family, who he has been surrounded by since birth. Growing up, Cain didn't own many toys. It wasn't because his family couldn't afford materialistic things, but because he found more joy in mundane activities. During his 6th birthday party, his father bought him a brand new PlayStation set which he played with for a few hours. But the next morning, Cain was outside making mud pies and playing with a few of his friends who had stayed the night. His childhood, filled with nature, would only strengthened his need to get into trouble due to curiosity. He was rebellious to a fault and quick on his feet, so no one could catch him doing stupid things if they tried (but that doesn’t mean they never did). As a result, he was enrolled in school sports to expend some of his excess energy towards something positive, which worked until the racism against him became apparent. Cain had been surrounded by people who looked like him and had always been kind enough to make friends wherever he went, but many people can take advantage of that and thus he was bullied because of it, which started to irritate him. He had always been raised with the idea that one should treat others the way they would want to be treated.

Adolescence: During his teenage years, Cain has experienced many ups and downs. From the end of friendships to the end of relationships, but he believes that this is what shapes a person and he’s one to always learn from his mistakes. But, like all teenagers, nothing is ever clear-cut, no matter how hard he expresses his feelings about situations and people. Over the course of his middle and high school career, he’s became quite popular with the students but a little less popular with the faculty, except for his art and physical education teachers. He makes good grades, some above average to maintain a well adjusted GPA but his heart has always lied with telling stories and that’s mostly due to the influence of his grandparents, Yansa and Tsula, who are the family’s storytellers.

[singsong] I’ve got another AU to tell you guys about~

I’ve been alternating between calling this one the No Mist AU and the Kids From Krieger AU (based on my headcanon that “von Krieger” is a toponymic surname) and I’ve been having a lot of fun with it!

Basically, somewhere out there in the multiverse, there’s a timeline where a young Artix didn’t forget all basic advice about helping people who have fallen into rivers and he grabbed a tree branch to help pull Vayle out of the water. They both got home safely that afternoon and, without the misadventure of getting swept downriver and subsequently encountering the Darkness Orb, proceeded to not obtain the extremely tragic backstory of their entire village being destroyed in the night. They still live there, in fact!

However. Neither of these kids were ever going to grow up to be Perfectly Average Doomwood Citizens. It just wasn’t going to happen. So instead Doomwood have a couple of childhood friends running around being home-grown heroes!

Vayle found her way to necromancy on her own terms and is entirely self-taught. In a similar vein to post-Darkness Orb Saga canon Vayle, her focus is on helping the various undead roaming Doomwood, not enforcing her will on them. This has lead to more than a few clashes with inhabitants of the Necropolis when they run across each other. She is very tempted to try and track down the front door to that place so she can go yell at the Necro U faculty about what they’re teaching

And Artix... well, he found his way to that power that the Darkness Orb would have sensed in him, had things gone differently. He’s a very powerful darkness mage (Vayle has been trying and failing to get “nyctomancer” to stick for years) and his main focus with that power is keeping it under control. He is interested in the ideas Vayle’s suggested for ways to use darkness magic that aren’t necromantic and they experiment with things every so often but mostly he wants to just be able to not do things he didn’t mean to (there may or may not be a chest of accidentally created doom weapons buried somewhere in Doomwood. if there is, Vayle’s been sworn to secrecy on the matter for years)

Design notes:

Artix doesn’t have armour in this AU for the simple reason of He Can’t Afford It Yet. He’s saving up!

Vayle can indulge her much more dramatic fashion sense because [gestures at Kid Artix & Kid Vayle’s canon outfits] these two are obviously from different financial backgrounds

That said they both very much did scavenge those weapons from undead in the woods. Vayle’s using a Shake Spear’s spear. I have no idea what Artix got the sword from

Vayle has neither wings nor pointy ears because she never encountered the Darkness Orb. She does have those fancy red tattoos because as far as I can tell those are neither a Darkness Orb thing or a Noxus-trained-Necromancer thing, so I figure they’re just An Aesthetic Choice and thus this Vayle could go for them as well

I spent ages going back and forth on whether I wanted to give Artix fingerless gloves or bracers and then went “wait I can just do both and go asymmetrical”

Waking Romeo (2022)—Review Part 2

[Part 1] In which Jules and Ellis bond over mutual trauma while getting followed by a mysterious threat, Jules comes to the most basic of revelations, Shakespeare gets mangled, soap opera-level twists, and the Romeo Hate Dumb train trudges serenely on. Spoilers, of course.

“Why?” he asks again.

“It was love,” I say automatically.

Ellis steps away, running his hands through his hair.

“You wish to be reunited with a boy who would let you do that to yourself?" he says, getting worked up.

“Starting was such sweet sorrow. I mean parting. I mean—”

“That is not what love is,” says Ellis, surprisingly forceful. “That is the opposite of that. It is about protecting this.” He puts his hand firmly over my scar, over my heart. (159)

Romeo let Juliet commit suicide.

Romeo let her.

ROMEO LET—

Okay, put aside the obvious fact that this astounding bit of clownery is not true, not even in this twisted AU. Barker’s Romeo overdosed while getting high and Jules thought he had died. So not even Romeo the Death Eater compelled/persuaded Jules to give her life for him. Let’s put all that aside.

Have not women their own fucking agency??!!! Jules made her own decision to shuffle off this mortal coil. She was acting out of unresolved grief for her dead cousin, which she later realized, and Romeo’s seeming death only just compounded it. So Barker’s warning against girls giving up everything for their boyfriends not only falls flat but is contradicted by the narrative itself.

My eyes are hot, verging on tears. I've cried plenty since what happened. I’ve shed rivers of tears over my husband though they were mostly the civilized kind, like Rosaline musters. Romeo got my pretty tears. But the ugly ones, the ones what make me keen and shake and let out strange noises? They belong in the dark, to my secret, and they can't come out now.

Something has to come out now, though—I can't keep it all down. So in the reflection with me, I imagine Romeo. Only this time I see him as he really was. A world away from the fourteenth-century honor and frills of my story.

“Did my heart love till now? Forswear it, sight, for I ne'er saw true beauty…” he whispers in my ear as he kisses my neck, as his hands run the length of my body. But, of course, that’s not quite the line he delivered that night in my bedroom. His language was mostly grunts and moans. The precious few words he used were…less poetic.

“Juliet Capulet tried to kill herself over a boy that she barely even knew,” I say to my reflection. (161)

Shocker.

So. A lot of bullshit to sort out here. 1) I don’t believe for one single second that Jules never ugly cried over Romeo. Not when she saw his dead body? Not when she saw him in a coma? Homegirl was really just 🥺 all along over a traumatic overdose and death attempt?

And 2) Barker’s penchant for recontextualizing lines from OG Romeo’s soliloquies/monologues as pick-up lines said directly to Juliet is truly pissing me off, especially since elsewhere Barker has shown extensive knowledge of Shakespeare, even the more obscure lines.

[Ellis POV] “I am in every word of it. I am in the people and the places and even in the weather. It is full of little jokes and references that only I would understand," I add, without humor. “She even used my Christian name for her character, and my surname as the pseudonym that she published the book under it is all in reference to me. Everything comes back to me. She was—”

I break off, unsure how to finish. I have never spoken of Emily to anyone. Frogs knew. In the first year when I pined for her so keenly, Frogs matter-of-factly announced that she had written a book. Afterward, he found me a copy and taught me to read it. Though we never discussed her. (166)

And then there’s the Wuthering Heights hate dumb. Emily Brontë was apparently such a bigot meanie that after Ellis disappeared from her life she wrote a whole-ass book about him as a sexy if monstrous Byronic anti-hero/antagonist and one-half of a dark star-crossed lover pair as a coping mechanism. And because of this Ellis is perfect for the similarly-wronged Jules.

“What I'm saying is…I don't actually believe that what I wrote is true.” Jules sounds surprised as she speaks, as though she has just worked that part out for herself. “I don’t think that the version of Romeo in these pages is the real boy or that it's what his character is actually like, deep down. The story is simply...an alternative version of events to help me move past the real ones. Maybe it was the same for her. Maybe your girl wrote that story, not because it was true, but because it wasn’t.” (167)

You seemed to be convinced yourself of it before, Jules. Hell, she barely even thought of Tybalt, the supposedly real catalyst for events, just Romeo and her love affair and then Ellis. I’m beginning to think the whole Tybalt’s-death-as-the-real-catalyst-for-Jules is a late retcon on Barker’s part when she realized it didn’t make a lick of sense.

“May I read it?” I nod at the notebook.

“No, it's silly,” says Jules, without missing a beat. “I wrote it in the style of Shakespeare, so the language is tricky. Besides—it’s not finished. I’m having trouble with the ending.” (167)

Again, I have to question the fact that Emily is framed critically for writing a whole-ass book about Ellis while our protagonist is framed favorably for writing a whole-ass book about Romeo. Maybe Romeo should go on a similar time travel adventure after he discovers Jules’ false portrayal of him in Waking Romeo and meets a secondary love interest who actually appreciates him and calls out her weird sexist double standard.

[Ellis POV] And then I think of her words from before: “What if he had gotten my note?” And I cannot help but speculate...what are the chances that the note in question was not the one that Frogs sent me to retrieve from her family crypt all those years go? The one with the two entwined hearts on the front, which smelled of perfume? The odds are not good, I would wager. (168)

So Jules sent a message to Romeo which did not get to him because Ellis had taken it first as part of his time travel missions. This leaves Ellis as directly responsible for R&J’s tragic ending…or at least he would be had not the author retconned this later and had her douchebag Romeo say he did read it and laughed at it. Yeah, that happened.

[Jules POV] “I thought you knew,” she says softly, “that I visit him after you leave.”

I feel sick. “How long? How long have you been coming?”

She smiles sadly.

“Always.”

Rosaline has always come? I think back to all those cheesy tribute assemblies and the rivers of fake tears. Were they real after all? Was it all real? Does she genuinely love him?

“We were together for years before you entered the picture,” Rosaline reminds me. “I care about him too.” (215)

Oh, no, no, you’re not getting away with this, Barker!!!

So Rosaline’s “pretty tears” and clichéd speeches for Romeo turn out actually genuine, one of the most blatant retcons of this piece. I have a feeling halfway through Barker read her editors’ notes, realized the backlash against the Not Like Other Girls trope, and did some hasty backtracking.

And of course, there’s the 483727733th iteration of ‘Rosaline and Romeo were actually a thing after all.’ Kill this with fire.

“I am glad you got your…what was it that you called him? Your pretty piece?” I say, repeating her words from before, perhaps somewhat unkindly.

“Pretty…to imply not manly.” Jules shakes her head. “Yes, I used to do that all the time, even in my head—describe ‘feminine’ traits in men as somehow a weakness. I didn’t do it consciously: But even in my writing, the bias was there.”

Is this a rebuke of herself and of Emily? Wuthering Heights is known for subverting gender stereotypes, yet also for portraying femininity…less favorably. (221)

The author accidentally included her notes in the book, I see. These editors are getting more incompetent by the day.

So as part of the whole “whoops, I just realized my earlier Not Like Other Girls shit is now unpopular” thing (a working theory), our author is now bravely trying to convince us she was making a point about internalized misogyny. Except that OG Juliet does not describe Romeo with femininized imagery. Probably the closest is the little bird metaphor…but even then that just reads as kinky.

[Jules POV] And I was wrong—love isn't everything.

I decide that, if I ever write another play, it won't be a love story. It will be about action—taking action versus not taking action. Because standing on my balcony, looking out at the in-tatters world? It's becoming clear that we have to act. That we have to do it today, or tomorrow won't happen.

With that, my thoughts return to Shakespeare. His plays used to be performed at a theater called “the Globe.” I figured it was just a cool name—I never really thought about the metaphor of it. The idea that all the drama was literally playing out on the world's stage. That each story, however small, was part of a bigger picture. (225)

Yes, because that was what was wrong with the OG Juliet—her just standing in her balcony babbling about love when she should have been out there girlbossing an end to the feud!!! What do you mean, she’s a 13-year-old in a patriarchal society that raised her to be meek and obedient and subservient to men? That’s no excuse for being such a basic bitch!!!!

Also. OG R&J are many things. But passive ain’t one of them. Romeo approaches Juliet, Juliet flirts back, he climbs high-ass garden walls, she tells him to arrange for their marriage and sends her Nurse to him, Juliet comes to the church to get married, they marry, Romeo tries to intervene in the fight, he fights and kills Tybalt, Juliet meets with the Friar and drinks the coma potion, Romeo flies to Mantua, buys poison, and returns when he hears Juliet is dead, kills Paris and then himself, and Juliet wakes up and kills herself. What part of all of that reads passive to you?????

[Jules POV] And then I'm thinking about how it all played out. How everything happened because my cousin had died the week before. Tybalt was dead, so I went to that goddamn party. My heart was all bleeding and raw. I needed something to numb the pain, and there he was—Romeo. I used the attention of a boy as my drug and distraction.

Tybalt's death was the tragedy that sparked all disaster to follow. Without him dying, I would never have been at that party, would never have fallen for Romeo. My story would have been different. Everyone's story would have been different. So why the hell did Tybalt have to die? (243)

Before this moment, Jules has only spoken about Tybalt like maybe TWICE in the whole goddamn book. I read this book from cover to cover and I cannot tell you anything about who Tybalt was, his personality, nor his relationship to Juliet—only that he died. We get absolutely no insight or even inkling into Jules’ past relationship with him beyond one or two vague anecdotes. So yes, I count this whole psychological explanation as a retcon, and a badly done one too.

Anyway, with Ellis’ help Jules finally manages to wake Romeo with the drug, but as a cop-out she leaves before he fully awakens. When she does meet him at his parents’ house, Jules drops this bombshell on him:

“That night when we were together in my room…” I say, my voice trailing off. How pathetic am I that I can't even say it? I didn't even put it in my story—I merely alluded to it as “the love-performing night,” of all the childish cop-outs.

There’s a long, drawn-out silence.

“I got pregnant,” I finally say. “I didn’t know it when I went to the crypt that night. When…” I leave that part unsaid. “The nurses didn’t realize until after the third operation. By that point, they'd already pumped me full of every kind of drug to keep me breathing.” I try to keep my voice clinical. “They said it was a miracle the baby wasn't gone already, but that if it survived, it would be ... different.” At the mention of “different,” Romeo's eyes automatically travel to my arm—the numb one. I try to ignore it.

“Mum, Dad, and Aunt Miranda kept it a secret. I basically stayed in my room for a whole year. People thought I was grieving,” I continue. “Or they thought my parents had locked me up because I was out of control.” (260)

Jules had a secret baby even though by all accounts she should have miscarried it from both her suicide attempt and the drugs they used to save her. We are officially in soap opera territory.

Sanzu Haruchiyo

(I’m doing this in parts coz I can’t figure out how to put everything together)

I think it's obvious by now that Sanzu is putting up an act rn of being this mean, loud, evil person right? There’s Sanzu (Mikey’s right hand man) and there’s Haruchiyo (Manjiro’ s childhood friend) just like we have Mikey (under impulses) and Mikey/Manjirou. Sanzu is loud and mean, Haruchiyo is quiet and shy. @nafarsiti wrote an amazing post about how Sanzu was made to protect Haruchiyo. It makes so much sense (its amazing go read it if you haven’t)

But then I thought what if Sanzu was made not to protect Haruchiyo but to protect Mikey/ Manjiro because Haru knows his friend is vulnerable and needs protecting. He is probably the first person who saw the “other side” of his friend and knows the reason as well. He doesn’t seem to see Mikey in a negative light at all. I know it could be a trauma response, his way to cope but up till now there’s nothing ABSOLUTLY NOTHING to suggest that he wants bad for Mikey.

Maybe he started going by Sanzu when he joined Toman (if you read Part-1 then you’ll know I said there’s a chance he joined Toman with the aim to protect Mikey.) Just like there’s Mikey (dark impulses) and Mikey/Manjiro, there’s Sanzu and Haruchiyo. As I said, Sanzu is loud and mean, Haruchiyo is quiet and shy. So Senju’ s older brother, one who asks baji for haircare tips, who formed a bond with Mucho, who loves cheesecakes is Haruchiyo. And the one who killed Mucho, who pledged loyalty to Mikey, the “mad dog" who is willing to go to any extent for Mikey and Bonten’ s no.2 is Sanzu who has buried Haruchiyo deep down coz Haruchiyo is not strong like Sanzu. Haruchiyo can’t kill people like Sanzu. Haruchiyo can’t be mean and talk back to others like Sanzu.

The one who Mikey talks about during the 3D fight to handle the fight was "Haruchiyo" coz some part of Haruchiyo is still here, still alive but the one Mikey addresses to in the Bonten future was “Sanzu” who has been Mikey's no. 2 for 12 years coz by then Haruchiyo is gone and only Sanzu is left just like Manjiro was completely replaced by “Mikey” (who was only able to come up to ask for help when Takemichy called out for him.)

▶Senju and Haruchiyo

These two chose their "new" names together. While Haruchiyo only changed his surname to Sanzu, Senju not only picked a new surname, Kawaragi, but also changed the kanji in her first name. Her real name is 千壽 which gives the meaning “thousand best wishes or longevity”. Pretty positive right? Definitely something a parent would choose for their kid. But then she changes it to 千咒 which gives the meaning "thousand curses". A completely negative meaning. Why would she do that?

We know she blames herself for what happened to her brother and Mikey. She thinks she is the reason Haruchiyo turned into whatever he has turned into. Could it be she chose this name coz she thinks of herself as a curse? And will only go back to the original when she realizes it wasn’t her fault? I also thought that since senju changed her name to something she thought she has become maybe Haruchiyo also changed something (some kanji) in his name but there’s no way to find that out.

Coming to their surnames, TBH I’m not sure about the meanings behind their surnames. Haruchiyo’ s name could be in reference to “Sanzu river” and Senju’s surname, Kawaragi, could be for “Sai no Kawara”, riverbed of death. It is the shore of the Sanzu river. These both terms are from Japanese Buddhist mythology which makes me think that Haruchiyo probably chose the name of the river and Senju, who wanted to be next to her brother, chose the name of the riverbed.

▶Sanzu

“三途” Sanzu - literal meaning would be “3rd path/road/method” (Kanji in Takemichi’s name has a similar meaning. 道 (michi) means road/path)

The train part will be in Part -3 but for now just look at this- (all images are from chapter 256 &257)

3 TRAIN TRACKS. We know train and train tracks hold some meaning.

There are 3 tracks with the middle or the 2nd track diverging into the 3rd.

The train was moving on the 2nd one and Sanzu’ s plan was to divert it to the 3rd one. His name means 3rd path, he wanted to turn the train moving on the 2nd track to the 3rd one.

Theory: The tracks show 3 ways. 1st is where no one helped Mikey and Kisaki ruined everything along with the "impulses". 2nd is the one where Takemichy intervened and removed Kisaki from the picture but failed to save Mikey coz he couldn't do anything about the "impulses" and 3rd is the one Sanzu is trying to move towards.

Summary: after the tragedy of her parents' death, she and her younger brother Florian are adopted by the Da Ville's. This doesn't mean that they treat them as family, though. Mocked and looked down at for almost ten years, Gabrielle has only one desire: revenge.

Character Study:

Sometimes Gabrielle hated herself for loving rain as much as she did. The thought always popped inside her head whenever she could smell the first notes of petrichor in the air; her heart would jump with glee and her brain felt the usual shame she had learnt to deal with since she had arrived to Clay River Manor.

Aunt Tiffany had found her looking at the clouds when she was around eight once. The clouds were as dark as Gabrielle’s hair, and she could almost hear the rumbling of the thunder and see the sparks of the lightning in the sky: visual and auditory effects for her own personal enjoyment.

“Are you scared?” The adult had asked, lips in a fine line, looking at her with caution. Everyone seemed to look at them with an inappropriate coldness since her and Florian arrived. It was almost as if they thought the siblings were cursed.

Or worse.

“No,” Gabrielle had denied, “I love storms.”

Aunt Tiffany had gasped, already putting a hand to her chest to accentuate the reaction.

“Insolent kid!” she had said, “How can you love storms when they were the ones that killed your father?”

Gabrielle was only eight years old. She didn’t know how to answer that question. That did not refrain Tiffany Da Ville from giving her piece of mind about the situation for almost half an hour more.

When her dramatic aunt finally left the skies were already starting to clear, and all the rain had already fallen.

Gabrielle was not afraid of storms. She loved the rain. She adored cloudy days and autumn afternoons.

Because none of those things had actually killed her parents, no matter what the rest of the family thought. Florian didn’t remember that day, aside from a few flashbacks here and there; but Gabrielle did, and what ended her parents’ lives had not been the climate or the circumstances they were driving in.

What had been their end was his father’s surname:

Da Ville.

Her new family, aunts and uncles and grandparents and cousins hated the storms. And they also hated Gabrielle and Florian, that much was clear. Even Spence Da Ville was absolutely prohibited from causing a rain cloud.

Almost ten years later from that day, Gabrielle Da Vile smiled, remembering a certain proverb:

“Your enemy’s enemy is your friend.”

She would not be ashamed any longer for loving what the rest of her terrible blood relatives loathed.

The Da Ville’s would pay. For every single year of disdain towards her and her brother. For mocking and shaming both of them. For blaming their mother, when the ones to blame were them.

Gabrielle had sworn to another rainy sky long ago that she would get revenge on all of them. And, oh, if the opportunity wasn’t right in front of her eyes.

The Da Ville’s as everyone knew them had their days counted. She would make sure of that.
