Do you have any hcs for how Alicole would try and solve and argument with the kids? Like, their dynamic (especially Aegon with Alicole cause he’s the oldest) is just so interesting and I’ve always wondered how an argument/disagreement would play out with them

ooh, tasty concept.

with arguments amongst the children, they try and get them to take a step back. they'll each take a kid (or two if it involves all of them) and give them a hug or something of the like, easing the tensions, before helping them come to some sort of compromise or agreement.

when it comes to non petty arguments that every child has, the source of issues amongst the kids is the following;

with Aegon they have to settle his need to compensate for feeling as though he is lacking. he tends to pick on his siblings when he's feeling down on himself. so it's a lot of affirming words and hugs while also chiding his cruel behavior. he's definitely hard on himself about being cruel as well, he doesn't like being mean it just sorta comes out of him when he's not in good spirits about himself. he shoves his siblings away over little things when he's upset which only makes him feel worse in the long run. the whole situation makes it hard to parent, as it's not right how he treats his siblings at times, but it's also awful how he feels and how it presents itself. there's typically long talks after the fact. Aegon's usually in his dad's arms, more often than not, while he mom comforts him.

with Aemond it's cooling his temper and frustration, deep breaths and grounding. they remind him that he can't let every jab get a rise out of him, that he always had them to turn to when he needs help, that he's not alone to handle his anger. they try and learn more and more each time, what triggers his anger, what helps him calm down, what to avoid, etc. sometimes he needs to just be held other times he needs a moment alone to breathe. they also try and help him learn how to self regulate and also make his siblings aware that he's getting upset prior to him lashing out (they also talk to them about it).

with Helaena, arguments tend to be because she thinks so differently from her brothers. not only is she a girl in a house of boys, but also because she's autistic (I was the autistic 'sister' in a house of boys for most of my life, it definitely brewed some unique arguments, and I'm gonna project god damn it), their ways of thinking and doing are so different sometimes that she just loses it. so with her, they let her talk, they let her ramble and decompress until she can ground herself, then they have to try and explain the boys point of views, how they see may not be the right way, nor is hers, neither are, but they have to learn to agree. then it's hugs and kisses and talking it out, before they go back to hashing it out with the boys.

Daeron's the most agreeable with the siblings, very adhd coded in my mind (so I'm going to project my brother onto him cause they're very copy pasted in my mind) so when he gets into an argument it's because he's going too fast, too passionate, and/or too much. so again, like most of their children, it's grounding first talking later. like Helaena, they have to explain that the way he is isn't bad or wrong, but that's sometimes we need to slow down, take a breath, cool off, and than continue.

with arguments they take their kids separately, normally separated into different rooms and they visit them together. depending on the exact situation they may just offer hugs and softness, or they'll play a slight game of good cop/bad cop, though they're careful with it. the goal is to solve the problem, not slap a bandaid on it. they tend to each kids needs before handling the actual issue at hand and then being them together to find a solution.

they can both be soft and stern in their own ways. Cole is typically softer on them, as he gets to their levels, takes them close while talking, but he has a stern voice and makes it clear he's willing to put a foot down if need be. while Alicent tends to be a bit more formal and stereotypically authoritative, sitting at the table with them, even if she holds their hands in hers and pulls their chairs close so she can stroke their cheeks.

normally the kids can make right up, or at least come to peaceful terms, but if it doesn't, cause kids can hold grudges like no one's business, Alicent and Cole are forced to remain wholly neutral which is much harder than one would think. most of their fights that lead to grudges are very childish so it's really just waiting for them to crack and realize it was a stupid argument. this is made easier when they don't get involved, so they just laugh amongst themselves where the kids can't see them, and try and keep face in front of them (they can smell weakness and betrayal. send help. a 4 kids household isn't easy). they definitely have moments where they wave the white flag cause one of the kids accused them of siding. the "get along" shirt is also an active and well worn member of the family (Aegon and Aemond share it often)

this video is very much Aegon and Daeron. they feud often. they're either acting like Aegon is a second dad to him, or they are actually going to war and have been sworn enemies for generations, fighting a battle to honor their forefathers (Alicent and Criston are so tired). speaking of Aegon being a second dad, he definitely oversees a lot of arguments between Daeron and his friends... does he understand little kid drama? no. is it entertaining as all hell? you fucking bet, he wants to hear all about what little James did at daycare.

when the kids are arguing with them, which with the way they run the house is pretty rare, but not impossible, they first take a step back for themselves. they will never show anger or cruelty towards their kids, so they make sure they're ok before they even think about talking to their kids.

talking will always be their goal, they never want to use threats or punishments to get what they want from their kids, and they have different ways about it. because their kids know how their household works, that things work on their time, and that just being open and honest, they really just need a day or two to themselves, if the reason for arguing isn't time sensitive, and then they can just take it out.

Aegon is sulky, he just closes himself in his room or flees to a friend's house (which they let happen so long as he leaves a note, leaves his location on his phone, and checks in every few hours) if its really bad. he'll drag himself back to the kitchen table in 48 hours tops, wanting nothing more than for his mom and dad to love him again (they never stopped).

Aemond is just frustrated past reason, so he'll go out and fence with his dummy or just something physical, then he's more willing to listen to reason.

Helaena normally had a boundary or nerve pushed, which was normally accidental, either cause she was already frustrated with something or something changed and it just put both parties in bad positions. space is all she needs.

Daeron is a bit of all the above. he's sensitive, though hard to cross, its often more about other things, something his parent did just broke the camels back, so a long run brings everything back to reason.

Alicent and Criston care so much about their kids, every argument they have with their kids, typically one-sided as they refuse to truly yell, breaks their heart whether or not they did anything or not. they never plan to punish their kids for arguing, they were kids once and they know that its good that they feel safe enough to stand up and fight for what they believe to be true, that they feel safe to shout and disagree with them. they would rather that over anything else, cause they know their kids trust them.

while they aren't permissive with their kids, their are rules and hard limits, they don't count arguing as something to be punished, and their kids don't tend to strand into punishable territories. so resolving a fight is a long talk at the kitchen table, no man's land so to speak, where all parties air their grievances. the problem is discussed, apologies are said on all sides, and sometimes it doesn't always end in a hug, but it does end in feelings being soothed and bridges mended. no one walks away with hard feelings.

they're not perfect, but they make it work, and because they've put so much time and effort into making their home safe and sane, the whole family in therapy, making active efforts to be nothing like their first "home" true arguments are far and few between, and when they happen they're equipped to handle it. Alicent and Cole are such good parents, their kids love and trust them, theirs so much space to talk and negotiate and handle issues early on that there typically isn't any reason to fight. I think that's what makes them such a good family, cause its so hard for me to picture them actually fighting outside of petty things.

#I genuinely cannot picture this family fighting #like petty things between the kids or teenage angst hurled at Alicent and Criston that they laugh about a few hours later most definitely #they wouldn't be a family otherwise #but I think that real arguments are rare and I love that for them #definitely strived to find the balance between gentle and authoritative parenting so their kids are well structured #handle all of their problems when they were little and now most issues are easy #cyclebreakers fr fr #they're also all mommy/daddy's girls and boys #all their fights are just big feelings that need to be rode out #Aegon yelling at Criston cause he's young and dumb and hurting cause he got his heart broken at school or cause he had to think about #dead dumb dad and his teenage heart is angry and he needs to put it somewhere? I think yes. I also think he cried in his arms a few hours #later and begged for his dad to love him again. cause they're hopeless #Helaena losing her mind at her parents cause she's just so stressed and everything'd out by the world and they just happened to breathe the #wrong way at dinner? again. I think yes. and she felt so bad afterward and goes on a whole vent about school and people and does some DPT #after letting them both hug her really tight so she could calm down #Aemond getting frustrated cause they're “babying” him over the loss of his eye and just ending up a sobbing screaming mess cause he's just #so mad at the world and he doesn't know what to do with himself #Daeron's head getting too loud so he gets super upset and disregulated and starts yelling in his room. not even at them directly until they #come in. he just loses his shit for a minute until he's tuckered out and then he's a mess in his parents arms #teenage angst is a bitch and the source of everyone's problems #alicole #alicent hightower #criston cole #aegon ii targaryen #aegon targaryen #aemond targaryen #helaena targaryen #daeron targaryen #pro team green #hotd

im just going to go off in the tags for my review but last nights concert was crazy, entertaining, and crazily entertaining. while they did not play the rhythm thief clearly my rhythm, if i ever had any, was stolen and ron and russell were easily able to see my lack of clapping and dancing skills. when will those 70+ year old men stop beating me at everything

#you would think clapping on the beat is easy. not when youre on a level of excitement you havent been since you were a kid #in all seriousness my sarcastic tone is covering the fact that i really did enjoy it all so much. now on to the analysis #we'll get right to the heart of the matter: russell was sweating three songs in and well. there are many benefits to being in the front row #im really really sorry. but. good god i may have been looking at his neck a lot of the time #also it may have been during the first song but i feel like it was during another one where he jumped (beaver o'lindy?)#and my eyebrow raise and look of 👁️👄👁️ when his shirt rode up was very palpable. i was very close .#i think russ looked at me a couple times near the start but it was more of a dfjfljkda dont look at me im staring at u like 😍 moment for me #im just so self conscious it hurts! but i was smiling my head off the entire time while also not knowing how to stand #the front row was standing the entire time it was wild #also i think the moment i predicted did happen of ron giving me a look like 🤨 for knowing all the lyrics to one of their more obscure songs #but i could be wrong.#russell was bouncing off the walls as usual but good god to see it in person. and he sounded incredible!!!!#i also could not resist bouncing a few times. its contagious. plus you gotta do it during music that you can dance to #good gosh what a fun time.#at the end of the concert someone was like 'i could see you looking with such love' like yes very true. good to know it was obvious #can i just say again russell was sooo. its a different thing altogether seeing him like 6 feet away in the Real World #did i mention how sweaty he was. ok review almost over #still no eaten by the monster of love but hard to complain with such a great show #spars #sparks tour 2023 spoilers

#what we’re presented with makes sense from a ‘costuming an actor’ standpoint but not ‘this is a knight undertaking a perilous journey’#and the official reference material I found presents his… undertunic/hauberk combo as What Boromir Wore vs what was designed for Sean Bean #which is on one hand soooo funny bc it fully implies Boromir rode on a MONTHS-LONG PERILOUS JOURNEY to figure out what was going on w his #prophetic dreams and THEN set out with the fellowship to protect a dude carrying an Accursed Object knowing full well some Fuck Shit was #gonna happen. all the while going ‘yes protecting my arms but not All Of My Vital Organs makes perfect sense’#im Sorry to whoever wrote that book but HE IS A CAPTAIN OF GONDOR USED TO RIDING INTO BATTLE IN FULL PLATE #MY GUY WOULD NOT SET OUT WITH NO TORSO ARMOR. YOU CAN SURVIVE LOSING AN ARM BUT IF YOU GET IDFK. DISEMBOWELLED YOURE PRETTY FUCKING SCREWED #so anyways I’m stubbornly sticking with my ‘he was in a short gambeson and split hauberk’ stance bc BOROMIR SON OF DENETHOR STEWARD PRINCE #OF GONDOR would not ride into Dangers Unknown without protecting his heart/lungs/stomach/intestines/etc #and also bodkin arrowheads can separate maile and the orcs use similar enough arrows that a hauberk isn’t gonna do much at all #so it still all adds up. unfortunately

I might be retraining Roxy to ride this summer. pray for me.

#she thinks shes a bronc. now she CAN be a good trail horse and in the past her bucking has been saddle based #and ill be using a treeless so saddle fit shouldnt be an issue #but uh. shes by far the most advanced horse ive worked with and if i do ride her #easily the most advanced horse ive ridden as i am used to Calm Old Farts #shes probably. an advanced intermediate.#theyve tossed new riders on her and shes done ok? but she does throw attitude and isnt shy about bucking if you piss her off #and ive ridden a bucking horse Once because i rode romeo in a skirt and he hated it #and that was a very mild one #so im kinda excited. kinda think i might die. we will see #roxy is my buddy though. thats the advantage i have over other riders. we are besties.#now you may ask. why me? why give me this task? well #ive already had luck training her some basic skills / breaking her vices #and no one else wants to. everyones either got their own horse to deal with #dont want to train horses. or in the case of her owner. wants to sell her.#the barn owner (her owners mom) wants to keep her for trail riding but isnt into horse training #so in theory. thats my niche.#and then we would just pony romeo because hes old and out of shape and skinny #so. idk thats the idea. rn. early drafts.#ive gotten partial approval. waiting for the green light if you will.

Honestly, even if he hadn't, Beau-clever, observant Beau-would have figured it out in no time, he was sure. The head butler of the Gracey family, in many ways, knew Dorian better than he knew himself (and considering how long he'd known Dorian, how much time they'd spent together as the young master grew up, he should), and so when Dorian's attitude went from somber and quiet to bright and excited, he immediately knew something was afoot.

"Granted, he doesn't know all the details," he admitted with a small shrug. "He doesn't know about your time travel, or our afterlives as ghosts, haunting the manor, for instance...but he does know about our plan to escape with Lizzie and Randall, and he was very keen to help in any way he can, as well as come along when I asked. Lizzie's going to talk to her mother this afternoon, and hopefully, she'll be joining us."

It thrilled him to know that Beau would be coming with them-honestly, he couldn't imagine starting a new life in California without the man he considered more of a father figure than his own father, nor could he imagine the lives of his and Elizabeth's future children being without Beau, who wouldn't be a butler in their new home, but instead a part of the family, as he always was in Dorian's eyes (even if his parents thought otherwise).

Dec. 2 prompt: What human skills/hobbies has Jasper learned since becoming a Cullen?

-driving. Jasper hadn't ever had a reason to get inside a horseless carriage automobile before 1950. He found it very unnerving. When he was first learning to drive, he was one of those drivers that go 20 miles under the speed limit, at least until he saw someone bleeding on the other side of the highway and nearly caused an accident. Years later, he still doesn't enjoy being in cars. He's a bit claustrophic and other people's emotions are way too close, and the noise/smell/vibration is nothing like riding a horse. Motorcycles > cars > > > airplanes.

-experimenting with electricity. Jasper was almost completely absent from human society for a long time. When he left the wars and began hunting in cities, he was really intrigued by the invention of "electric" long after everyone else was used to it. Once he got comfortable in his new home he started dissecting all kinds of electrical gadgets to figure out what made them tick. This led to his and Rosalie's shared robotics hobby in later years.

-identity management. When Jasper first joined the family, he was amused by the Cullens' insistence on playing human... and a bit uncomfortable with the risks they took to do so. His concern with safety/security, his willingness to get his hands dirty, his need for real work, and his talent for strategic thinking eventually drove him to take an active role in managing the Cullens' identities (and past identities, and ongoing identities, etc.). Ironically, the workload and complexity of this task drove him to take an unprecedented risk: letting a human in on a fair amount of their secrets. This is stretching the secrecy law, and he knows it, but he's come to love this strange new family of his and to care about their happiness. Since playing human is a necessary part of that happiness, he's going to make sure it's done as safely as possible. Ironically enough, he's found a great deal of satisfaction in this role and it's led him to keep up with the human world more than he would have done otherwise. -reading. Jasper never read for leisure as a human; no time and no books. He dropped out of school at age 13 to work full time on the family ranch. As a vampire in the Southern Wars there were always books on hand (some newborns could be kept quiet that way) but he rarely read then either. Once he joined the Cullens, though, that vampire obsessiveness really got a chance to shine and he devoured books like they were blood. (This actually helped with his withdrawal—he'd already gone through the worst of it when he was alone with Alice, but now he was trying to stretch out the time between hunts and be around humans again.) His interests shift as the years ago on, but history, anthropology, psychology, true crime, and philosophy are his favorite subjects in general. He's the only Cullen besides Carlisle who has his own study.

-whittling. To be fair, Jasper whittled as a human, but it was just passing time and mostly shaving pieces of wood down to nothing or quickly shaping a scrap of lumber for a particular purpose, like a clothespin or a fence post. He didn't really focus on artistry. But as a Cullen he really began to study the art of whittling. He loves to craft things like chess pieces, Christmas tree ornaments, little knickknacks, and even jewelry. Keeping his hands busy helps his thirst, and it means a lot to him to use his hands to create something beautiful and lasting after so many years of destroying everything he touched.

-helping Esme with renovations for that same reason. Sometimes he gets to design cool circuits/tech for their houses. The system of automatic steel shutters in their Forks home was his contribution. (Being overprotective is the mother of invention.)

#aristotle.txt #DONT GET ME WRONG #i still really enjoy what he has out now #and i think his value as an artist is about the same #but i think one of the like. early appeal of his music like his sophmore album #it was really the motion of his music that set him apart. clever bars for sure but it was the production and how he rode the beat #he stopped being a lyricist after his intial ep and made like. RECORDS. music you want to play at parties but he did it WELL and ON PURPOSE #not necessarily a rapper but an artist #im big on lyricism! i am! im literally a writer #and its not like he doesn't still make party music lol #but i think it lost the edge on the latest record #still a good record but indefinitely more commercial #he shines on features i think cause it forces him out of that #he is genuinely talented im really happy hes so popular he deserves it to me #but will we get another record like loose yk #i think his newest album has some of that #like a blade of grass in particular #but gazebo? loose? confetti? IDK ! THEY HAD A QUALITY TO THEM I REALLY MISS #this is partially because im never a fan of projects that feel too polished #its why i liked earl sweatshirts album that everyone else hated and why its one of my all time greats LMAO #ive said this before but for me artistic exploration will always trump polish #for some people the latter is more important and thats ultimately subjective #ANYWAY.#loose you will always be That Record to me

Nah, actually I'm not done talking about fandom's bizarre takes on death.

The thing about life is, you age. You learn things, you come to terms with things, you build a life that's at least a little better than it was for you when you were young. You get happier. Only very rarely does anyone's happiness peak in their twenties or thirties.

If you're going to imagine your significant other as you die, in your sixties, would you not imagine your significant other AS HE IS NOW, rather than as he was thirty-five years ago? You see his current face regularly. You hear from him nearly every day. He is on your phone sending you emotional texts from the bar where he's ignoring his government mandated heterosexual love interest.

#death isn't reliving your younger glory days. death is knowing you will miss what you have NOW.#death for ice is certainly regretting that he can't continue to protect mav - and potentially since he's ice he has actively #put measures in place for mav's protection after he's gone.#anyway!#my meta posts #people have a really warped view of death and i don't like it #there was someone this morning trying to reassure someone who'd lost their beloved dog after years of health issues #and instead of saying hey man you looked after her so well she lived so long despite it all; she lived a good life and i know she loved you #they went 'she's playing somewhere now as a puppy before all her health troubles'#like what is this terrible fear of aging.#what is this willingness to assume people and animals had their supposed happiest state when they were so much younger #what is this willingness to erase a lifetime of experiences that shaped someone into the person they are now #in service of what? #so :)) my favorite animal hands down is orcas #i happen to live on the east coast. aka like the ONE place in the world where orcas dont like to hang out in #my family has taken a few big vacations to maine over the years and we're going again this year #we also went to the very edge of Canada and this year we're gonna spend more time in Canada #also side note...... every time we've gone to maine we've gone on at least one whale watching trips to see humpbacks #and we have NEVER ONCE SEEN A HUMPBACK. weve seen a minke whale a basking shark a sun fish like 100 dolphins and a million seals #but no humpbacks 😭 but that's why we've been so many times they guarantee that you'll see them so we've only paid for tickets once #anyway. FUN FACT. there is ONE singular loner orca who regularly visits the new england area #his name is old thom :) he's approx 30 feet long :)#from what ive read it seems like he comes down here between may-november and hes seen almost every year #sometimes he hangs out with white sided dolphins which is really interesting bc orcas have been known to eat dolphins #and hes never been seen with another orca which is veryyyyyy uncommon #well. hes been seen in the EXACT. WATER. that we RODE A FERRY THROUGH to get from maine to Canada #he was seen near boston LIKE A MONTH??? before we were in Boston #his whole route is like. the exact waters ive been on or near multiple times.#AND WE'RE GOING BACK THIS YEAR.#I NEED TO SEE HIM!!!!!!! Killing off a character in the same season you introduced them in who is not only a main character but has been forced into the whole main plotline of the season is a bold and very stupid move stranger things team 💀
