Not telling anyone how to consume or perceive media (obviously!), but for me I've found it's so crucial to take the show's tone and genre(s) into account - not to mention the prevailing norms during the era it was written. So like when people excoriate '90s sitcom characters for being (gasp) 'problematic', it's not that those fans are technically WRONG, but they're failing to take into account that sitcom characters' flaws and missteps are deliberately exaggerated for comedic effect and that some of what a majority of fandom now views as intolerable was far more generally accepted a couple of decades ago.
Similarly, I think it's futile to apply contemporary ethics and human rules of decorum to supernatural creatures who have been around for centuries. So as someone who loves a few human/vampire ships and is one of like six living Giles/Anya shippers (don't mock me - I'm fragile!), someone once asked if I'm bothered by the age gap and...no, because Anya is a vengeance demon, and BTVS is a mixture of fantasy and horror and comedy and soapy drama rather than a documentary, so for me 'age gap discourse' just doesn't apply as it would between two real human beings. I also just think sometimes we need to focus more on what evokes emotion and stimulates thought and imagination rather than compiling lists of what technically constitutes as problematic by today's rigid yet constantly shifting standards, but I'll stop here before all six mutuals (I LOVE YOU ALL SO MUCH!) unfollow me :)

I love jack so so much he's perfect but tbh I do think it would've worked much more with the show if he was a destiel baby instead of lucifer's. and I'm not just saying that as a shipper or whatever I mean narratively it would've been a lot cleaner- and actually, I think it would've been super funny to no-homo them creating a baby together, like, literally all they would have to do is say "oh, when cas rebuilt dean after hell he accidentally left some grace tangled in his soul, and every time he's healed him since then it's been growing stronger until a nephilim was born". like yes the studio is homophibic etc etc but all the jokes they'd make about dean being spiritually pregnant would be very funny for me personally.
but ANYWAY, jack's story gets messy and convoluted and I think this would've been like...a simple fix. them worrying about him going dark side could be because they're worried how demon!dean and lucifer!cas affected him in development, the show LOVES bloodline drama, chuck's wanting abraham and issac 2.0 would've worked better this way, dean's storyline with him would be improved, bc rather than 'oh no I slowly but surely emotionally adopted the antichrist' like I think he would've had an easier time clocking his john-behavoir if it wasn't a question whether he was jack's dad or not. plus last time dean actively raised a kid he went to great lengths to keep the supernatural away from him, so it'd be interesting to see how he handles a kid he CANT possibly hide from this part of his life. it would make more sense why michael wanted jack as a vessel- yes obviously he wanted the nephilim power boost but also having him as part of the winchester bloodline, making him a PERFECT vessel he doesn't have to worry about burning up would add a lot. we could also use this argument for why lucifer is so interested in him if anyone actually liked that plotline in season 14 lmao. we know chuck hated cas and dean's relationship, could you imagine if he checked in and found out they made an unauthorized baby together💀 like that really would've given better context for why he hates jack so much. cas wouldn't need that whole weird brainwashing arc to wanna protect unborn jack, PLUS it could've been an interesting source of angst for him- he feels like he's failed once again, creating an abomination and putting dean in danger, but also still loves jack immensely. it'd be so good! also imagine how fucking stressed out heaven would be to find out a mini castiel is on the way. they wouldn't even wanna exploit that kid for power they'd be preemptively treating the headaches they know they're gonna get lmfao.
also. the casting directors literally put jensen and misha into a face morph app and cast the first actor they could find that matched the results. which would've made more sense if,,,,he was just Theirs. the comedy of dean and cas making a baby before either of them managed to admit their feelings to each other would be more fun then the "dude adopted a kid and pawns him off on his unwilling roommate's all the time and they eventually warm up to the kid" storyline we actually got. we also could've replaced some of the jack-dean angst from the show with "dean wants to connect more with jack but he feels shut out whenever cas is around bc he can't relate to any angel stuff so obviously jack's going to cas for help more!", which I think would be interesting!! how AWFUL dean and cas would feel that jack didn't feel safe enough to be a baby. dad!sam is still in full swing but he cares for jack right off the bat instead of trying to use him for his powers at first. lily sunder talking about how cas killed her kid bc he thought it was a nephilim and dean, who's already fully aware he's (spiritually) knocked up by cas is like 👹 inch resting cas-tee-elle tell me more. mary having a 'my baby has a baby' crisis. cas insisting jack looks nothing like him is a running joke but then at some point he explains its bc jack's 'true form' looks just like dean's soul....
ALSO- in a show where, canonically, the very first act of free will was cas falling in love with dean...the physical manifestation of that defeating chuck and taking his place as god? come ON.

How in the fuck are you going to be anti trans and a Good Omens fan as if both the book and the show don’t explicitly establish the existence of several nonbinary characters and both Aziraphale and Crowley themselves are genderless beings
Not to mention both David and Michael’s staunch support of the LGBT (really emphasizing the T here, since you love to drop it) community as a whole, and David literally has a trans child
Part of me is even asking this in good faith because how do you see a series that is so incredibly queer and like it considering how much you shit-talk trans people on your lackluster TERF blog
There’s many reasons, actually! I’ll explain them in good faith, because I think that people who ask questions like this don’t understand the perspective of so-called “terfs” and assume we think like you do.
Firstly, I’m a feminist, so I’m used to media not aligning with my politics. I expect it, actually. Down to very simple things, like knowing I’m never going to go into a show and see a woman just existing with body hair like men do in shows all the time. But I’m comfortable and confident enough in my beliefs that I can consume media that doesn’t align with them. This extends to my feelings regarding gender. A they/them character doesn’t make my head explode, it’s just the same for me as seeing a Christian character (like Ella from Netlix’s Lucifer) or a female character who’s pro-beauty culture (like Elinor from First Kill). It’s a representation of a belief I don’t agree with and personally don’t believe in, that’s all.
Secondly, Good Omens is set in a made up universe with fantasy themes. I can easily get behind the idea that the true forms of angels and demons are genderless, because that makes sense to me in the same way God being genderless makes sense to me. This doesn’t have to carry over to me believing that humans can be genderless (I don’t believe in the concept of internal gender identity, because I don’t believe in souls. So I guess the better way to put this is that I don’t believe humans can be sexless unless we’re using gender and sex as synonyms). In the same way that it makes sense to me that angels and demons have souls that are put into bodies issued to them…but I don’t have to believe that also applies to humans. Or how it makes sense to me that Aziraphale and Crowley could survive without food, water, and sleep…but I don’t have to believe that also applies to humans. Etc. etc.
Basically, just because something is in a fantasy show, doesn’t mean I have to believe it’s real.
Thirdly, what the actors do in their own lives is none of my business. I don’t agree with supporting the TQ+ especially in relation to LGB (considering they’ve made it a primary goal to harass lesbians into pretending we can like penis, and to take every chance they get to express their hatred for homosexuality. I love to drop the T because they dropped me and my fellow homosexuals years ago). If two straight male actors want to do that, whatever. I also don’t agree with Sheen having a baby with a woman his daughter’s age, but that hasn’t stopped me from watching the show or appreciating his talent.
This all takes me back to what I said about believing you don’t truly understand the perspective of those you call “terfs”. Just because you might not be able to comprehend watching and enjoying something that doesn’t perfectly align with your worldview, doesn’t mean others feel the same. For example, many radical and rad-leaning feminists enjoyed the Barbie movie, despite it not being radical feminist. We’re capable of watching and enjoying things we don’t agree with, and of having discussions about why we don’t agree with it.
A much simpler answer to your question would be: I’ve always loved angels and demons and all things supernatural. I’ve always loved old cars. I love Queen. Religious/moral commentary and critique interest me. I love lighthearted comedies. I’m gay and starved for representation of healthy gay relationships. I love gay star-crossed lovers stories (go watch First Kill). Naturally, I’m going to love Good Omens, even if it doesn’t perfectly align with my worldview.

Special Agent Lokitty Masterlist
This blog archives all of @specialagentlokitty 's works into masterlists so they are easy to find. Please read through the Navigation section to help you find the fics you're looking for!
Updated through: end of 8/23
Navigation:
Under the cut, you'll find the list of fandoms that Lokitty writes for (or previously wrote for). The link will take you to a second masterlist of character x reader ships. This is where it can get tricky:
reader lists are lists which have character x reader works
specific!reader lists are lists which have character x reader works where the reader's relation to the character is more specified (ex. daughter!reader, student!reader, etc.)
all readers lists are lists which have character x reader and character x specific!reader works.
NOTE: Characters that have all readers lists will NOT have reader and specific!reader lists. all readers lists contain all the works for that character and are sorted by relation. What list a character has is entirely dependent on the number and type of works Lokitty has written.
From there, you can pick the character-reader relation, open the list link, and find all the fics you're looking for! If you're confused, play around with the links. You'll find what you're looking for.
If you're looking for crossover fics, pick one of the fandoms in the crossover. At the end of that list there is a Crossover Works link. You should be able to find the fic there.
other important notes:
some lists are short and list all the characters and their works without having extra links. These are easy to navigate.
reader traits such as male!reader and autistic!reader are listed next to the fic title and DO NOT have seprate lists.
all fics are (generally) listed from oldest to newest.
I tried my best to sort out all the crossover works, but this was already a huge project and some probably slipped through the cracks. I sorted everything to the best of my abilities, but it would have been impossible to read through every single work (and I'm unfamiliar with most of these fandoms). If you find a fic that isn't where it belongs or is missing lables/ wrong labels, please message me to let me know.
Lists are always under light construction. As Lokitty writes, sometimes things must be reorganized. Any major changes to navigation will always be noted above!

1/2 of the last metaphorical kitkat
this (see image below) is absolutely how the polycule flirting starts, they meet bea, and avatrice are pretty quickly off to the flirting races, and lilith, who not only doesn’t like beatrice but is also capital v and u Very Unused to it not just being mostly only her & ava, much less someone who spends as much time and that they’re also actually relatively very open with like bea
Tumblr media
which is absolutely the main reason why lilith dislikes beatrice alongside recognition of self in the other being uncomfortable esp for lilith’s repressed ass, initially than the whole vampire-werewolf beef that she likes to blame it solely on
anyway so lilith is jealous, so at some point she starts intercepting avatrice’s flirts for each other and that’s how bealil start indirectly and then directly flirting, because beatrice starts responding and then deliberately saying specific lines when lilith’s around knowing she’ll intercept it
initially it’s more ironic flirting out of pure spite fuelled stubbornness, but it soon becomes unironic flirting for both of them, though they won’t admit that, and ava’s just making bets with herself over how long it’ll be before bealil act on the vv obvious mutual attraction
googled and apparently it’s illegal to transport bats without special license or something, anyway ava has absolutely gotten arrested a few times for travelling around with lilith in bat form with her lmao
there’s defo a bunch of times where lilith will transform into a bat solely for the purpose of being able to sleep on or around ava, without ava having to stop everything she’s doing as well
also man the thing about ava & lil getting a therapist but not wanting to show uo is making me laugh, picturing mary or shannon or someone chasing vampire lilith around with a net to take her to her monthly therapy visit or something lmao
wait, what if mother superion is the therapist 👁️
it’s probably very ??? whether or not she’s supernatural or just a very chill human, like she’ll act and talk like your average human but then sometimes she’ll just say something that screams supernatural, and then another time she’ll say something that completely contradicts that, etc
Ah hate-flirting, the start of any promising relationship lmao. But for real, yeah that is how things start. Lilith thinks she's being so cool, snarky, and unaffected, but Beatrice is not some graceless rube in the the art of banter, so she gives as good as she gets 110%, until it's just the two of them harmlessly sniping and nipping at each other while Ava just goes to make tea and watch. Then, suddenly, uh oh, all the playful, meaningless jabs become genuine flirtations, and now they're both stumped and unsure of what to do. Imagine them having the mortifying realization that they're both actually terrible at this whole ~feelings~ thing and that they've just been allowed to skate by because of Ava's inherently affectionate and loving personality making it easy for them.
I can imagine Ava trying to sneak through U.S. customs after some long, international flight where Lil has to go bat-mode for a bit to avoid the sun (I'm also thinking that maybe the older a vampire gets, the less the sun affects them. Not to the point where they become immune to it, but enough that they won't instantly explode if it touches them. Lilith in present day probably just gets a really bad sunburn if she gets more than a few minutes of exposure). Nothing to see here, no sir, she's definitely not smuggling a non-native species into the country. Or Ava goes out of her way to get a license and uses it for comedy at every available opportunity.
And Lilith does just love sleeping on Ava as a bat. If it's chilly in the morning or something, she'll tuck herself in under Ava's sleep shirt. Left to her own devices, a sleepy bat girl will literally get snuggled up oh so cozy on her girlfriend.
I like the idea of everyone being ?????? about whether Mama S is supernatural or not. Like, even Ava and Lilith aren't sure, and the friend group winds up keeping a doc or a spreadsheet cataloging all the evidence into different columns, For for yes, she is supernatural and Against for no, she's just human. What's even better, the investigation is what ultimately drives Ava and Lilith to attend sessions without being forced, so whether Mama S is supernatural or not, she's proven that she has a magical gift regardless (it's called a doctorate in psychology)

The death of critical thinking that I see in takes about the ATLA live action. I personally don’t care about it and I’m not going to hate on it but I need people to understand that yes you can like it but other people can also be upset.
I’m not going to tag OP as I didn’t want to start an arguement but as a lover of “bad” media, someone who grew up on CW adaptations of favourite characters and a professional nitpicker who finds joy in critical analysis of my favourite shows I can say that this take boils my blood (prefer for a rant that might not be coherent bc I’m ill) :
Tumblr media
Shows don’t have to be perfect, they can be flawed but:
1) they should aim to be good - The difference here is that sad money grab adaptations like live action Avatar have the capability to aim for good and just don’t try. People are upset bc they believe (right or wrong) that the show has missed the point of ATLA. That it has major structural flaws (pacing, characters, themes, etc). These aren’t just little ‘oops didn’t get that perfect’ things these criticisms are pointing to there being an issue with the creative team’s intent, understanding and skill at adapting the series.
(The original creators of the animated series left for as far as I am aware undisclosed creative issues but I think we can see that at some point this project was capable of being what people wished for.)
The source material is well loved and while live action has its limits it has the blueprints to be a hit. It just missed.
A beloved show already exists, the live action failed bc it didn’t understand it- why did it change KEY POINTS such as character’s personality? People are upset about specific LARGE changes. Not little nitpicks.
2) Yes shows are entertainment but they are also art - they are meant to say something not just be a cheap laugh. The original had deep messaging. Every comedy, sitcom, drama whatever says something. The shows that last have something that touches the audience. Even cheesey romcoms make the audience care, even if it’s as simple as love.
Can we stop with these ‘maybe the curtain is just blue’ takes!
Dude I love supernatural, I can enjoy a show that has some big flaws. But the difference is that one is an original story with some fucked plot holes and the other is based on an established media that is viewed as almost perfect (the og isn’t perfect, nothing can be).
Tumblr media
I don’t think you know what suspension of disbelief is. We suspend our disbelief to believe in bending and avatars and sky bison and penguin sledding. Not to excuse bad characterisation
This for me isn’t about the show. I don’t care but I think takes like this where it encourages you to abandon critical thinking are the worst thing about fandom.
Go and enjoy the show. I’m sure it is fun. Im sure you can find so many lovely new takes on characters. Im sure there’s stuff that builds on the original and makes it better.
But never tell people not to nitpick. Not to criticise. Not to question if the creators understood the text correctly.
I promise Netflix won’t be hurt if people say it’s not good enough and they’d rather just watch the original.
(I don’t know why everything needs a live action adaptation anyway)

Wednesday Season 1 Review
Song of the day: “808s and Goth Bitches” by KIRAW. Wednesday isn’t a goth bitch. I am, though.
It took me a while to finish all eight episodes. And even longer to get around to posting a review. Let’s start off by saying Wednesday surpassed expectations! Not that I thought it would suck.
People are okay with the original Addams Family comics being adult-oriented. (Not as in X-rated. Being published in The New Yorker.) They’re okay with the kid-friendly adaptations. But a spinoff primarily for teenage girls? Stop the presses!
I was first acquainted with the Addamses through The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries. Might post a Scooby-Review someday.
The PG-13 film duology was watched in preparation, so I was expecting some exemplar dark comedy. And Wednesday was full of it! Wednesday made me want to give The Addams Family 2019 another chance, too.
I took notes while watching, then went back and added some thoughts afterwards.
Wednesday’s Child Is Full of Woe
Another show where adults play teenagers. Tyler Galpin’s actor Hunter Doohan is like twenty-nine now.
Already it has some great lines (e.g., “Like electroshock therapy without the satisfying burn”). It’s more inspired by the aforementioned live-action films than the comic or other adaptations. Or so I assume, based on my limited knowledge of them.
I know fans say the Addamses aren’t technically supernatural, “goths are just like that,” but it actually explains a lot. Cousin Itt, Thing, possibly Calpurnia… their extended family in general.
The duology with Christina Ricci didn’t have Wednesday’s narration. It’s nice to see her uniquely creepy and kooky perspective. Her exile to Nevermore Academy reminds me of how Gomez and Fester went to that camp for juvenile offenders.
Wednesday is sassy to her parents, which some reviewers complained about, but it makes sense. She’s a teenager. Although there still is some Dawson casting. Ricci!Wednesday is a preteen.
Adaptations, spinoffs, etc. don’t have to be for every fan of a franchise’s previous works. Again, the comics were published in The New Yorker. Which, while “sophisticated,” isn’t family-oriented.
Unlike other goths, I don’t want to be Wednesday, whose rudeness is amusing. (I really wouldn’t want to hang out with her or her relatives irl, either.) Despite that, they’re all still highly likable as characters. It’s still super easy to empathize with Wednesday at times. Totally understandable why she’d be pissed off with Enid admitting to kinda cyberstalking her.
I respect Wednesday’s devotion to gothiness. She’s not a tryhard. She succeeds. Both her and Enid could easily have come off as annoying, but are highly likable. Enid would fit in with Teen Wolf’s main pack, probably. No transformation? No problem. She doesn’t just have retractable claws, she has manicured, multi-colored ones.
It initially felt like an odd decision to make Nevermore’s cliques vampires, werewolves, telepaths, and sirens. Kind of like a live-action Monster High, only watchable. The only main question this episode left me was, “Why were the Pilgrim World employees rude to the sheriff’s son?”
Woe Is the Loneliest Number
The carousel’s brakes broke at Wednesday’s eighth birthday party? I want to see one of hers or Pugsley’s birthdays so bad. D: This episode features another gothic event, Nevermore Academy’s annual Poe Cup. Seemingly inspired by Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’s four houses, their inter-house Quidditch matches, and the Triwizard (plus Harry) Tournament.
Thankfully I read His Hideous Heart: 13 of Edgar Allan Poe’s Most Unsettling Tales Reimagined last year. It’s twenty-six Poean texts in all, including the source material. Didn’t have “The Black Cat” or “The Gold-Bug,” though.
“The Black Cat”: Like standard black cat costumes you’d see on Halloween, only a bit cooler.
“The Cask of Amontillado”: Edgy harlequins, like from a joker card.
“The Gold-Bug”: I only read this story once years ago and it was in a more child-friendly anthology, so probably condensed. The original had a really stereotypical black character, though. So I can understand why people would be upset Bianca was team captain. It might also be a reclamation thing on her part. I didn’t mention her earlier, because I thought she’d turn out to be a typical bully, but Bianca’s actually cool. Not sure why some of the fandom labeled her a villain.
“The Pit and the Pendulum”: Are the Hufflepuffs, obvi.
There’s something about boarding school stories, supernatural or no, that are so fun. Anyway, this episode introduces the tomb of Joseph Crackstone. What a name. This is so Potter-esque. There’s also a cool botany class. Compare to Herbology with Prof. Sprout.
Uhh… what else? Headmistress, if you want the children to be “well-rounded,” you’re in the wrong Burton work. Wednesday! Don’t go near the apiary in dark clothes! She’s great. We have no way to know if she’s just messing with people or not sometimes.
Takeaway from this episode: Nevermore is a good successor to Hogwarts.
Friend or Woe
“Nightshades” is a cool name for a secret club, but there are other poisonous plants besides belladonna. As its members should know from aforementioned Botany. (While watching this, my dad sent me an article about herbal/mushroom teas, dangers of. First time I’ve heard of chaga, though.)
“Do you want a matching black eye?” -Wednesday to merguy. In hindsight, he might have been the first Addams Family character to be naked, besides Cousin Itt. Who hasn’t made an appearance so far. The act of giving double barrel black eyes is known as “raccooning,” btw. According to that one guy on Justified.
It’s nice to see that even though Jericho is “normie,” its thrift store Uriah’s Heap has taxidermy roadkill. Which could be considered more ethical than hunting for the sole purpose of stuffing.
I hope Netflix knows Puritans and Pilgrims weren’t the same. 🤨 Taking Addams Family Values into account, it’s unsurprising Wednesday’s unhappy about Pilgrim cosplay. Even if it’s in black and white.
Another callback to the ‘90s movies is her beef with GSUSA. “I eat Girl Scouts for breakfast.” What’s it with her and Scouts? I always felt bad for them because they’re expected to work outside in cold weather.
Wednesday realizing the girl in the Meeting House painting is Goody Addams is the most excited we’ve seen her so far, I believe.
“Whitewashing of American history,” “mansplaining…” (“Sexsplaining” flows better, imo.) I like how her social justice leanings are divorced from her general assholery. Like, she could be performative about it, but no, she’s genuinely pissed at injustice.  And does something about it.
Woe What a Night
Wednesday was probably so, so happy to be in a morgue. More so than most macabre goths. Also, using a mortician’s recorder then actually getting to play deadly hide-and-seek in a mortuary cabinet!
Interesting ep for ships. Personally, I’m not picky about who Wednesday ends up with, or even if she ends up with any of the introduced characters so far. I thought she was going to volunteer Enid as a date to Xavier. Whose Rave’N fit made him look kind of like a hatless Doug Dimmadome.
“Give me a call if I ever move up your to-do list.” -Tyler Galpin. Cold. (Note, after finishing this season, I still prefer her with Tyler. :P) It was nice of her to include Eugene in her hunt for the monster, even if it was mostly because she utilized the apiary to store crime scene photos.
So Morticia’s maiden name is Frump? I kind of wondered if she and Gomez had a cousband thing going on. (Not my thing, just noting it.) *googles* Okay, I should’ve watched the TV series. The live-action one. I am woefully behind on Addams lore.
You Reap What You Woe
Ah, Gomez, smiling during his own arrest. Perhaps reminded of his juvenile offender days. Maybe.
Oh good, Eugene’s not dead. Yet. Janet referred to her son’s bees as his “fuzzy wuzzy babies.” 🥺 I hope this show sparked an interest in beekeeping for at least some viewers.
I don’t usually look great in yellow, but I want Bianca mom’s scaly coat. Glamorous family. Glamily. Again, she’s the protagonist’s rival, but not villainous. At all. She’s not worse than Wednesday, really.
Like her daughter, it makes sense that Morticia would have more than one admirer. Even back then, some people just really wanted a goth GF. I wondered if she thought his name was “Garrote” Gates. “His mistook her kindness for interest.” A tale as old as time. No Garrett, you stupid prep, get off the goth campus. >:(
Besides the identity of the monster, the biggest question so far is, “How many times has Gomez played Russian roulette with Wednesday if they’ve been playing since she was twelve??” Eating rattlesnake isn’t even that weird compared to what the Addamses usually do.
I’ve seen people complain that Wednesday had the family be Mexican when Luis Guzman and Jenna Ortega are Puerto Rican, but the keyword is “ancestor,” I guess. The whole werewolf conversion camp thing with Enid was even clunkier.
This is going to make me sound stupider than usual, but at first I thought “FIRE WILL RAIN” was a command. Like, fire someone named “Will Rain.” “FIRE WILL RAIN” is still an improvement over “ENEMIES OF THE HEIR… BEWARE.”
Quid Pro Woe
Enid’s outfits look so comfy. Between the fuzzy pink coat and her Rave’N outfit. Theme: Yeti? Without an actual yeti present? Disappointment.
Aw, she planned a surprise party and even Thing was wearing a tiny party hat.
@judge-m0rt1s and I really wanna see Enid go pastel goth and try to get Wednesday to embrace it. Their characterizations could’ve easily been annoying, but their dynamic’s cute. I felt a little bad for poor infatuated Tyler. With their matching snoods, I’m sure he suspected Enid and Wednesday were dating.
I still can’t get over how much of a name “Crackstone” is.
If You Don’t Woe by Now
Fester finally shows up! Aw, Wednesday’s smiling at her uncle. (If I ever rewatch this season, I’m going to keep a smile tally.) I’m used to Christopher Lloyd’s gruff voice.
“Group electroshock therapy.” Between her mention of ECT in the first ep, the taser, and Ricci!Wednesday’s use of an electric chair on Pugsley… Maybe Wednesday should become an electrician. Eh? Eh?
Penny’s Pooch Patrol is everything.
For someone who’s into Gothic lit, I haven’t seen much Jekyll & Hyde media. Hopefully this show also gets people into aspects of goth culture besides fashion. Besides Harry Potter and Teen Wolf, this show also reminds me a bit of NBC’s Grimm.
Aw, Tyler’s determined to get Wednesday to go out with him.  I love how persistent he is, despite her warnings. At first I was really impressed by the crypt picnic date, projector and all, but I can’t get into Legally Blonde. But, oh, so Tyler’s actually a deranged monster? Nice.
(It’s still funny how the actor’s almost thirty.)
A Murder of Woes
Not only is Tyler a Hyde, he’s aware he’s a Hyde. And HE GOT CORRUPT. :D
I wish Bianca had used her siren powers to get Tyler to tell the truth while Wednesday had him chained up. Wednesday’s methods are crude. But she definitely has a strong sense of justice. She had a point, Weems!
I get not wanting the school to go, uh, but uh… Weems isn’t the greatest headmistress. (Cool character, though.) “I didn’t ask what she identified as.” You don’t identify as a Hyde! Francois just was one.
Marilyn (Laurel) had a weird MD/LB thing going on with Tyler. (I say “weird,” because she’s evil.) Morticia and Gomez are supposed to be the kinkiest.
When Wednesday’s the one bound to a chair.... “Kind of a déjà vu thing we got going on, huh?” “Except I won’t cry and whine like a child.” YOU TELL HIM, WEDNESDAY. She’s masochistic, and probably right.
Goody Addams… Goody’s supposed to be her given name, but Goody is an abbreviation of Goodwoman. Basically a Puritan honorific equivalent of Mrs.
Outcasts “stole” Crackstone’s land? Wednesday already got postcolonial. Don’t make her do it again. >:(
Hell yeah, Bianca, stab that undead mofo! Also, Eugene returns. With his bees! It was kind of funny seeing Laurel shoot at a swarm with a handgun.
In conclusion, Tim Burton redeemed himself with Wednesday, after a string of movies I didn’t particularly care for. I love how the show took common tropes but made them entertaining as heck. Like the whole bloodline/sacrifice/night of the (whatever) thing. Goody’s ghost healing her was a bit of a deus ex machina, though.

i know nothing about the sitcom au. but i need to hear about it because it is constantly rotating in my mind like one of them walmart chickens
not me thinking you meant a live chicken rotating in a walmart i am soooooooooo smart and cool
anyways sitcom au is like. exactly what it sounds like. the characters of mandela are put into some weird frankenstein of a 90's (seinfeldish) and early 2010's (those live action disney/nickelodeon shows. you knoe the ones) sitcom and Shit Happens, as it were
uh. tge Very Basics in terms of plot are:
- adam and jonah live together in an appartment in mandela (oh my god they were roommates)
- adam's dream job is to be a paranormal hunter and he does investigations on the "supernatural" activity in his appartment, jonah doesn't really believe in that kind of thing but ze supports him anyway
- adam is. very enthusiastic when it comes to paranormal hunting. he has a corkboard with red strings all over it and everything. he is extremely normal
- one day these two new guys named mark and cesar move into their appartment (they are qpps in this au btw) and adam is completely 100% sure there's a ghost following that cesar guy around. he saw it with his own two eyes he KNOWS it's there. jonah tells him it's cuz he hasn't slept in the past 3 days but he ignores them
- adam hasn't really had a real case before (most of the shit that happens in his appartment is just like. the result of faulty piping or smth) so obviously he immediately jumps onto this
- adam goes to the police (mcpd) to let them know about it, but thatcher and ruth don't believe him at all, telling him to come back once he can prove this "ghost" is real. they didn't mean it seriously but adam's like "alright bet"
- a lot of the episodes (cuz this is a sitcom, the story is very episodic and continuity is pretty much optional) are focused on him trying to get evidence that the ghost he saw is real and dangerous so that mcpd'll finally believe him, with jonah helping out along the way (they still don't believe in ghosts but it's been a while since he's seen adam be this excited about something so ze goes along with it)
- this happens in increasingly silly and stupid ways throughout the show, but every time he actually gets his hands on some evidence it always somehow gets destroyed before he can actually show it to the police
- important to mention that cesar's not at all secretive about being followed by a ghost (aka alt!cesar, who is later revealed to be a straight up demon btw). he would gladly tell adam all about it if he asked but adam thinks that it's "too easy" to ask cesar directly so he insists on doing it his own way. it never works
- comedy ensues
other thingys:
- adam and jonah are extremely emo and scene respectively ever since high school they never grew out of it (for context they are now both 23)
- not all episodes are dedicated to the formula i just talked about. of course there are holiday specials n stuff cuz what show'd be complete without holiday specials but there's also like. a baking competition episode, an amusement park episode, an episode dedicated to mcpd, etc. not every episode has to be about the formula i think
- adam and jonah aren't. uh. the most upstanding citizens in this au. nothing major, mostly just petty theivery and spraypainting grafiti n shit like that. mandela's a pretty slow area in terms of crime otherwise, so most of the calls mcpd gets are about them (which is probably one of the reasons why thatcher and ruth completely dismisses adam's claims about alt!cesar). as such, adam and jonah aren't exactly close with thatcher but they have a "HEYYYYY THATCHY MY MAN WHAT'S UP‼️‼️‼️" "if you call me thatchy ever again i'll punt your asses into next week" "GOOD TO SEE YOU TOO DUDE B)" dynamic w him you feel me
- speaking of which, dave's a part of mcpd in this au! unlike thatcher and ruth, dave is completely convinced that this ghost is real and he even occasionally helps adam with his schemes n stuff
- alt!gabriel is their landlord in this au. he's still satan incarnate but he also runs an apartment. not a single person in the apartment questions it
- this would also be something revealed later on but mark's an ex-paranormal hunter in this au, though he now works in amateur filmmaking. he got a permanent black eye from his time as a paranormal hunter, though he's very vague about what exactly happened
- mark hates talking about that time in his life in general for reasons i won't reveal yet cuz i like to be sneaky >:)
- alt!cesar isn't actually malicious at all he's just a dick
- sarah and eve do exist in this au, they just come in at later episodes (sarah lives out in california, but she occasionally visits mandela since that's where she grew up. eve eventually moves into the complex with everyone else and she and adam are still exes in this au so. hijinx. also eve's even more emo than adam which is an accomplishment to say the least)
- jonah's a homestuckie with a tumblr

Miko Month: The Meta History
I gave a quick history on Miko's childhood a few days ago. But what about her "meta" childhood? How did she even come to be? This is a thing I talk about every Miko Month, but it's always fun to revisit. Even on Tumblr, I’ve mentioned the history before, but I think it’s been AGES since compared to Twitter’s “every Miko Month” lol
So sit back, get comfy. We're going back to...Halloween 06? WAIT-- YOU?!
Tumblr media
PREHISTORY
Halloween 2006...From 5th grade all through high school, I was a member of almost every single iteration of Band (marching, wind ensemble, jazz, pep, etc). Marching season was almost over and we get to wear costumes for the Halloween parades we do for nearby schools.
I was The Goth-Vampire-Knight-Thing, of course (for those who haven’t seen my Twitter, basically it’s this outfit I put together for my junior and senior years of HS, and that was, actually, how I described myself to anyone who asked). My best friend at the time, though, was showing off the prototype version of the cosplay we were both going to have for a con in '07 - the Azumanga Daioh school uniforms. Here are the finished ones (featuring me and my friend!)
Tumblr media
Anyway, by the time we finished the third grade school parade route, we were high on sugar or something and were really goofing around. My friend, to both of us, didn't QUITE look like Yomi and, I dunno, we started goofing around and somewhere along the way "Koyomiko" was uttered. By the time we got back to our school, it was "after school" time and I was just waiting for my mom to come pick me up. We were STILL goofing around, and jokingly tossing around "Koyomiko" this, "Koyomiko" that.
And some gears started turning as I went home that evening...
I do NOT have the original sketch of Miko anymore, but she was literally drawn on November 1st (hence her canonical birthday!). And I went to school that next day telling my friend how I made a kid for Tomo and Yomi. She humored me, at least (she wasn't really a yuri fan lol)
A few days later, I would try to draw her digitally. I still used Pixia at the time...as well as tiny Wacom tablet. TINY TINY. Graphire 4 I think? Anyway, THIS is the pic I showed to the world:
Tumblr media
DEVELOPING MIKO
As I said, I decided that she was a child of Tomo and Yomi. Because I love Tomo and Yomi. And they have a kid somehow (science!) Her original full name was, legit, Koyomiko Takino-Mizuhara. I couldn't decide what the dorks would decide to use as a surname lol
Tumblr media
This became my Thing for FOUR YEARS! Sure, I did regular canon Toyomi yuri and other fan art and stuff, but the Takino-Mizuharas were basically my main shtick. I coined the term "Azu-Kid." Miko's content was akin to Yotsuba's. Except lesbian moms. And Osaka as an "auntie."
Tumblr media
I met Leigh through this silliness. She even brought out her own OCs from a different thing to have as friends for Miko. She was the sarcastic, smarmy, *half*-French (in this iteration) Sachiko Nakamura. Also, her older brother (and INITIAL love interest for Teen Miko)...Hayato
Tumblr media
(ahem, yeah, it's really funny, considering what happened over time) COUGH. Anyway. Eventually, I wanted Miko to take the spotlight instead of her moms (which are the bulk of the original content - Toyomi parenting). It started out just as a new generation of Azu, but, over time, I wanted something different. I didn't want to do just comedy. I wanted some drama. So I tweaked it a bit and "Reminiscence & Reflections" became the new draft. At first, the old Azu gang were still part of it, but in the background. And then...they disappeared.
Tumblr media
Oh, you bet I was ready to start a webcomic, you betcha! It took a bit, especially moving in with Leigh, trying to get through college (and failing), and less time to art. But eventually, I thought I had it all ready. And I posted this:
Tumblr media
I started drawing up the pages on paper and then...then...Why wasn't I happy? Why is it so BORING?! I even thought about sprinkling some supernatural-y stuff in, but it wasn't working. I would slowly stop drawing Miko for a bit. SM and Pony art prevailed. Here's an example of what I DID draw during this “drought period”:
Tumblr media
Enter me also unsure of what I wanted to do in the real world. I was in a brief stint at a call center. I was still in the initial lecture phase when I just had...this epiphany. I started scribbling down notes, thoughts, doodled some uniforms and weapons. Oh my god. This was it.
Tumblr media
Well, almost. It would take a few more tweaks during the year of 2013, but basically, Raison came to be! And by July 2014, the rest was history~

[ANIME]
Some recommendations for you all! But some of these are underrated. Hope you like it!
Golden Kamuy
Golden Kamuy, you've heard it before. I know that this anime is very popular in Japan but also outside Japan except Indonesia (The anime did a collab with Sanrio & Shiroi Koibito [Cookies I guess], any question?). This story is about Sugimoto,  a veteran of the early twentieth-century Russo-Japanese War, and his quest to find a huge fortune of gold of the Ainu people, helped by a young Ainu girl named Asirpa.
"Why should I watch this?" Because you'll know everything about Ainu, indigenous people of Hokkaido! I guess Ainu is like ethnic group [We call it "suku" here], it is unfamiliar that I thought it wasn't real. You'll also learn about Russo-Japanese War, foods, Ainu foods, Ainu culture, etc.
About the fandom, I haven't seen some groups in every social media including Tumblr & Twitter. But I hope it has a green flag, cause I've seen that the fans are nice enough (They don't compare GK to other anime and a lot of them are Tsurumi's fans on Twits haha!). There is a blog about Golden Kamuy, where you can know gun types, references of real people, opium, funfact, etc. Just type it!
2. Bungou Stray Dogs
This is also popular outside Japan [and in Japan too ... Probably?]. This story follows Atsushi, a weretiger orphan, who joins others gifted with supernatural powers to accomplish different tasks including running a business, solving mysteries, and carrying out missions assigned by the agency.
Bungou Stray Dogs or BSD is worth it, you won't believe that it's a seinen (18-30/40 y.o for men) anime even if you read the genre. It's seinen, but less blood and full of humor at the first season. Same as GK, but "nicer" for teenagers. You can simp with Dazai, Ranpo, or even other bishounen characters oops- Well they have unique artstyle of course, love the eyes <3 You will also be introduced with real characters if you search them without BSD.
About the fandom, a lot of them are fujoshis (Girls who are fans of BL). I also think that the fandom is safe, but a bit weird because AtsuKyouka. However I ship these teenagers as siblings/best friends.
3. Popee The Performer
You probably know this anime. YES, Popee The Performer is an anime and a kid show, but I mean like what the earth is going on-
If you don't know Popee The Performer or I should say Popee Performer, you might say that I'm lying. Popee Performer is a 2001's anime and a kid show made by Ryuji Masuda, a CG animation. So, it does sounds like a 3D cartoon to you and you'll ask why I recommend this.
Come on, Dear, Popee Performer is alright for you ;) .... If you like bloody and 'weirdcore' animation with a story that no one can understand the reason or the moral from this "slice-of-life-or-not" anime, then this is your world. The story follows Popee, an apprentice clown, and his assistant, Kedamono, attempting various Circus acts and going about their daily lives as performers.
The fandom? I hope it's a safe area although it's not a children show and the adults watch that, they make awesome fanarts and ... ship for PopKeda. I'm not hoping for PapPopee and you shouldn't, I beg you please. DON'T SEARCH IT ON AO3 EVEN IF YOU WANT TO
4. Gugure! Kokkuri-san
After watching heavy topics, we should start taking a snack and then stare at an enjoyable anime. Gugure! Kokkuri-san is a spectacular comedy and supernatural anime series that came out in 2014. The TV show features countless unexpected humorous and heartfelt moments, so it’s definitely worth watching, especially if you’re in the mood for something sweet and simple. The series revolves around the life of Kohina Ichimatsu, an elementary school girl who lives by herself and leads an unhealthy lifestyle. Once, while playing a game, Kohina accidentally summons Kokkuri-san, a fox spirit who later decides to take care of the little girl. The show then takes Kohina on a thrilling journey where she encounters several other spirits like her guardian.
I love the artstyle, especially Kokkuri-san. A beautiful, goofy fox with a long hair. The fandom is green flag for sure, I don't see lots of fans talking about this anime.
5. Sanrio Boys
Another enjoyable anime, sadly it's just for sponsoring Sanrio T_T WHYYYYYYYY
This is about boys who like dolls, including Kouta Hasegawa who has a problem because the society says it's girly if boys have dolls. However Kouta finds his friends who have the same interest.
This enjoyable, bromance anime ... It feels like Sanrio Danshi/Sanrio Boys is judging the society. I mean, we all hear that boys who play with dolls are girly and my ears are super itchy for listening to these stupid things. They have small fans, not popular but it's better! You will also see beautiful and handsome guys, gotta choose Mizuno before someone catches him.
There are underrated animes that I've watched, but I guess 5 is enough. Give me part 2 if you want. Sincerely, Blue Wolf

Film Journal #6: The 1970's
"Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!", directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, came out in the year of 1969, and aired throughout the year 1970. Personally, and I'm sure it is the same for many others in my age range - Scooby Doo was a staple within our childhoods growing up. The Scooby gang truly are a memorable cast within their own loving stereotypes, the "jock" pretty boy, the popular pretty girl, the hippie, the nerd, and well of course the comedic relief animal character!
To be able to bring these characters to life, the animation process for the show was quite different than what had been seen before. It was created through a process "called "limited" or "planned" animation, which was devised a decade earlier by Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera". Limited animation differed to full animation in the way it didn't need to create a new full drawing for each frame, only body parts that had to move like a head or an arm, leg, etc. had to be changed. And the static body could just be swapped and split "up the character onto different "cels" -- sheets of acetate or celluloid onto which the figures are painted and then photographed."
Many of the early designs for the characters made by Hanna-Barbera strategically "wore neckties or collars so that the separation between the body cels and the head cels would not be apparent, and their faces were often designed to have muzzles so that the mouth could be animated on a separate cel."
"Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" would set the standard for a more full-style of television animation than had been offered before. "
The director, on the other hand, "passes the work onto the animators, who draw the scenes and lip-sync the mouths of the characters to the voice tracks. Today, virtually all television animation use overseas studios"
Most importantly, how did the story for the Scooby gang come to be? During the time it was created, there was a major uprise in violence occurring within film and (mainly) television - and parents weren't happy about it. Even going to the lengths of protesting against it. So writers and showrunners had to think carefully about what themes and visuals they were about to show. Mystery was always a safe bet and garnered an interest within people throughout its different films in the genre. As well as the comedy elements were of course a huge part for the show, which would make some of the villainous concepts less frightening and relieve some tension.
So, the original main plot for the main cast of characters was a teenage mystery adventure story, when they "weren’t performing at gigs, they were out solving spooky mysteries involving actual ghosts, zombies, and other supernatural creatures". They ended up scrapping the musical aspect as its already been seen before, so as to not be a copy they strayed from that and just stuck to the mystery solving friend group theme.
As for the audience reception, the show had to be cut short as the ratings were declining rapidly due to increase of similarily patterned shows Hanna Barabara Studios would put out. The trope of a teenage group solving mysterious and uncovering monsters would slowly get stale. "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!" only ran for two seasons. However, good news for the show as it in the end had a comeback, "taking a two-year hiatus for production before releasing a new series called The New Scooby-Doo Movies in 1972."
Unfortunately though, the show constantly kept being thrown back under development every few years. The very formulaic approach to the show made it very hard for showrunners and creators to keep going for long periods of time (so it was usually limited to just one oe two seasons), as well as inconsistencies kept being thrown at them. Factors like voice actors being changed, different characters having focus in each episode, it was a bit of a mess all around. It made it very difficult also considering the show doesn't have a linear story approach and it's more of a monster of the week situation, which can fall prone to being easily very recycled and stale after some time.

Pop culturally though, the Scooby-Doo franchise is one of the most well known all across the world. Its clear impact throughout media is still seen to this day even with how much time has passed, the loveable mystery hunting friend group is known within almost every age group and can be seen through a variety of forms. Through references, marketed toys, film, and even reboots of the show are happening once again - it truly never dies. The concept is just so versatile in the way its so recognizable already and the mystery solving really can be applicable to any plot really. It really is a concept that works for any age group, but it definitely sells itself the most for the teen/children demographic.
And let's not forget the iconic live action movies, because those are absolutely special. The live action and animated films I think had the most lasting impact when I think back in memory, because they seriously were something I'd never seen before. "Scooby-Doo on Zombie Land" (1998) seriously had me slightly traumatized by those creatures!

endings are hard... but they aren’t impossible
tldr; the good place fucking nailed the finale, supernatural completely and utterly bombed it.
tags: wc--4.5k, gif heavy, spn meta, the good place, supernatural finale, spn wank, all gifs are mine, if you read til the end there’s a pretty gif
so i recently finished the good place (i was watching w my family and we finally had time to sit down and watch the last season) and god fucking dammit that ending is FLAWLESS. literally flawless.
Tumblr media
and because i’m, well, me… i spent most of the time during that hour long finale thinking about how supernatural could have had even a fraction of that and avoided so much heartbreak.
anyways. i decided to compare them. to REALLY compare them. to get into the nitty gritty of why the fuck the good place ending left me feeling, as the finale is all about, sated and complete. and why the spn ending left me confused, lost, broken, betrayed, unable to even enjoy my comfort show at all until a dear friend finally just watched an episode (8.08) start to finish with me.
so without further ado (always wanted to say that) here’s the good place/supernatural finale meta that no one asked for
comedy
we’ll start small. both these shows have excellent comedy. in extremely different ways… but still
in the good place finale, the comedy was perfect. whether it was jason reappearing in the forest, michael trying to get through The Door, tahani reversing the “hot bod” bit on eleanor, every comedic moment was actually pretty emotional and added something to the show. they deepened characters’ meanings, added to their relationships, and made the audience think as much as they made the audience laugh.
Tumblr media
in the spn finale… the comedy was the pie gag. the whole sam shoving pie into dean’s face. beyond this being… like meta as hell (the whole prank thing) it doesn’t have any depth to it.
Tumblr media
and to add salt to the wound, this “hilarious” thing happens RIGHT AFTER salmondean have a conversation about missing jack and cas that is equal parts flat and infuriating. the brothers, in particular sam about jack and dean about cas, should care more. this is their family. and family is everything to them. but, no, by all means pie dean in the face.
last lines
this one IRKS me. okay.
the last line of the good place  "I'll say this to you, my friend, with all the love in my heart and all the wisdom of the universe: Take it sleazy.” “All right.”  is ICONIC. okay?
Tumblr media
it’s a reference to season 1 that doesn’t feel fan-servicey. it’s kinda honestly emotional cuz it’s like a message to us, the audience. it perfectly completes michael’s arc. it captures the light-hearted vibe of the show while also somehow managing to be poignant. you can see it coming like the second before it happens but it’s also not the obvious choice. it’s just. goddamn it’s good.
the last line of supernatural…. is… “and cut.” not even said by one of j2. i mean i know it’s a meta show but COME ON ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME??????????
Tumblr media
now i hear you shouting wait but that’s just the end of the thank you message. okay fine whatever. in that case the last lines are “Hey, Sammy.” “Dean.” (i couldn’t bring myself to gif that moment)
i’m sorry but. that’s predictable. that’s obvious. that’s boring. that’s flat. sure, it celebrates the bond between the brothers. but like… that’s not what this show is about anymore. it’s not just about sam and dean winchester it’s about what they’ve created. it’s about the world they’ve saved, the family they’ve made, about how they always keep fighting but nope we get bland, boring, coulda seen ‘em coming from miles away lines for the very end. that’s fine.
montages
the spn finale is like 50% montages that don’t make sense and are poorly done and not emotional
the good place has a montage of michael being human that brought me to tears
timing
here’s another short section. the good place finale was 53 minutes long as opposed to the usual 20 minute long runtime of every episode. granted, the fandom of the good place is very different, but STILL there was no documentary telling the fans things they ALREADY knew (there was a short special after the ep, but the episode itself was still far longer than normal). it was 53 minutes of plot. of really fucking good not rushed plot.
the supernatural finale was… what 36 minutes long?? as opposed to the normal 40 minute runtime?? granted, we did get an hour long documentary of things we’ve all heard in cons and interviews a billion times so hey. take what you can get i guess.
character arcs
this is most of the meat of this meta. one thing we’ve all been harping on a TON is how they RUINED character arcs. soooo let’s go through and juxtapose some character arcs shall we
eleanor
Tumblr media
eleanor shellstrop starts the show completely self-obsessed. she died getting hit by shopping carts while picking up margarita mix and let’s be real she’s a total icon. love her to death. she grows a ton, becomes one of the most selfless characters on the show, and starts to actually (jack forbid) CARE about things. it’s one of the most satisfying and relatable character arcs i’ve ever seen.
it’s not just her selfishness either, her character is super multi-faceted and complex, and i feel like even in the end we’re getting to know her better. she’s afraid of commitment, always worried about what others’ actions will do to her, loves the trivial side of life, is queer as fuck (as acknowledged by the show in a way that’s not harmful at all but also isn’t explicitly bi/pan/unlabeled/omni etc, allowing queer fans to see their own identity in her), and is all around a HUMAN BEING. her ending at the beginning of the show was her death. her stupid, trivial, meaningless death where she was, as she puts it, all alone. and her final ending ISNT that. yes, everyone goes before her. and i think that’s purposeful. to show that she’s grown enough that being alone in some sense is okay.
but she’s never TRULY alone. and in the end. the REAL end. janet is there. the whole time. because eleanor asked her to be!! she got over her crazy need for independence and simply asked for help. and eleanor dies an amazing person that has become selfless, has found joy in philosophy while still enjoying trashy content, has fixed her relationship with her mother, and has found a sense of completion. eleanor’s life ends on her terms, and it’s beautiful.
dean
Tumblr media
alright. now just as you’re feeling all warm and fuzzy let’s look at dean winchester’s ending. you’ve heard it a million times, so i’ll be brief. dean was raised to be a hunter, a soldier, a killing machine with no feelings and no purpose. he was raised to die scared on a hunt, his life over because of some mistake he made because he will NEVER measure up. at least that’s what john and everyone else told him with the exceptions of some of his family (and family don’t end in blood). he started to accept that he didn’t have to have this. he started to realize that he could CHOOSE what his ending was.
the beautiful thing is, we never truly got to see what that was. i personally like to think it’s similar to the roadhouse michael locked him in while he was trapped in his own mind. a safe place for hunters, somewhere he (and cas in my opinion, but that’s not important) could settle down and still be in the life. it would be an amazing tribute to jo and ellen, and just all around a great ending. he wouldn’t have to be scared, but he wouldn’t have to conform to some apple pie facade of normalcy. and ya know what?? say that he died so he could have peace i dare you. because dean doesn’t find peace until sam is there anyway so i beg of you WHAT WAS THE FUCKING POINT.
dean winchester died scared. dean winchester died on a hunt. dean winchester died on one of john’s old hunts. dean winchester died not directly at the hands of a monster, but at the hands of a mistake. his mistake. dean winchester died without ever working through the trauma of his best friend in the entire world confessing his love in a final act of self-sacrifice. dean winchester died in a way that leaves a sour taste in my mouth and does not at all show the audience what he’s been through and how much he’s grown. dean winchester did not die on his terms, and he deserved better.
chidi
Tumblr media
okay back to happy. chidi anagonye. by far my personal favorite good place character (don’t tell anyone i always say jason cuz he and i are very similar). chidi in the last few episodes is SO DRASTICALLY different than the chidi we meet at the beginning. he’s decisive, confident, self-assured, and it’s amazing to see. he’s not afraid of life anymore. he’s not afraid to make the wrong decision and forever alter his reality, because he’s okay with failure.
at the beginning, chidi was so petrified of life that… it killed him. and in the end, he’s completely at peace with every decision he makes, even the final one. yes, he considered staying for eleanor, but that just shows how his moral code and his compassion for others is still very much still intact. it shows the audience that you can be confident and decisive without being a selfish asshole.
chidi leaves the good place knowing that it’s the right thing to do. knowing without a doubt that his time has come. the old chidi never would have been able to fathom being that sure about something. it’s beautiful. it’s a development that can give the audience peace, can show them that this drastic of change is possible, and that chidi became a better person for all of it. chidi went on his own terms, and it was beautiful.
sam
Tumblr media
… this one might be controversial… but sam winchester. god i hated sam’s ending. at first i was kinda okay with it. like, okay fine he got his normal life. but, really, in the end that’s not what sam wanted. he started to realize that he didn’t need that apple pie, white picket fence life. he didn’t need the wife and the kids and the backyard and the barbecues because that is NOT sam’s personality and i will throw hands on that.
that’s not to say he doesn’t want some sort of romance, maybe even kids, but not in that way. he lets himself see that he doesn’t need to be defined by his rebellion to john. doesn’t need to be defined by going to college or any of those “normal” smart kid things because it doesn’t fit him. and that’s okay! but how does sam’s story end? it ends with a wife (that isn’t even important enough to show her face). with kids. with a goddamn white picket fence. we think he’s still hunting to some extent… but it’s not the arc we were led to believe would happen. it’s not this amazing leader sam that we see in season 12-14, uniting hunters and organizing them.
he had SO MUCH potential and they throw it away on a vanilla ending that shows only surface level pain at losing his brother. he doesn’t even invite the rest of their family to the wake for fuck’s sake. jared did an incredible job. pls don’t think i’m saying he didn’t. but that script…. sam winchester’s arc was cut short. he didn’t go on his terms, and he deserved better.
jason
Tumblr media
jason mandoza. the only character that has ever embodied my complete dumbass energy to the insane extent that it exists. he went to hell for his impulsivity. he never thought before a decision. i aspire to be as reckless as jason while on earth. but he LEARNED. he got better, just like they all did. and by the end of the show, jason doesn’t need to be impulsive anymore. much like eleanor being left “alone,” the show does a masterful job with making him be the first one to go, capturing his old impulsiveness. but he chooses to leave. he takes his time in deliberation, waiting until a feeling of peace, of completion, of well, ‘true happiness’ (sorry cas stans, i’m right there with you) has settled over him.
the ending of his story is one of growth, just like all these characters have been. and the best part? the show makes it comedic in the most poignant and beautiful way, because it’s jason, it had to be funny. we learn that jason has been in the woods for like, eons, just waiting to go through the door because he wants to give janet a necklace. he’s learned to simply wait. to be at peace with… nothing. his torture was being a monk, but in the end, jason embodies those ideals. his arc comes to fruition in an extremely satisfying way. jason goes on his own terms, and it’s beautiful.
castiel
Tumblr media
this one is gonna hurt like a bitch. castiel is my comfort character. he’s my role model. he’s me in a lot of ways. i love him. so fucking much. so excuse me if this is slightly incoherent. i’m actually okay with cas’ ending… in a way. because his actual ending as an on-screen character? perfect. self-sacrifice while coming out and professing his love to dean winchester. a little bit bury the gays, but let’s be real, it’s supernatural. and “happiness is in just saying it” has to be the most powerful way to think of coming out. it takes away the fear, it takes away so much of the pain that can follow. because the joy is in just saying the words.
it’s how this was treated on the show that makes cas’ character arc terrible (and we haven’t even gotten to 15.20). YOU CANNOT JUST IGNORE A LOVE CONFESSION. that is god awful writing and i will never change my mind on that. cas deserved his family to care about him. to at least address and be sad about the fact he was gone. jesus fucking christ after everything castiel deserved at least that. and then we go to 15.20. cas is in heaven. cas is serving god. cas is right back where he started. now, i’m coming off a little strong.
if the show had decided to show us cas and jack in heaven makin’ the world a better place… i woulda come around to it. i woulda realized that that’s not REALLY erasing 12 years of character development and cas realizing that his whole identity isn’t just him serving heaven and isn’t just him being an angel and that he’s so much more than all of that and he could still be happy as a human… because really he’s with his son. but they didn’t show us that. they barely even mentioned him. and to me. that counts as a bad character arc. and i’m sorry if you disagree. castiel may have gone on his own terms, but they treated that beautiful sacrifice with disrespect and disdain, plus resolved his arc by putting him back where he started. he deserved better.
tahani
Tumblr media
*deep breaths guys this is a long post i’m sorry* anywayyyy tahani!!! we love tahani obviously. let’s talk about her arc, because it always kinda bothered me. throughout the show, we see all the other character’s growing and expanding their knowledge of right and wrong. and, don’t get me wrong. we see tahani grow a lot. but she makes a lot of the same types of comments and shit like that. but it’s how she treats the reactions to those comments. by the end of the show, she laughs at the caricature of herself that the others see. she isn’t looking for vindication in name-dropping, she just does it. she is far less self-absorbed, and is genuinely interested in those around her. she fixes her relationships with her sister and her parents in a way that doesn’t feel forced and actually feels like a beautiful, healthy family reunion.
she has a list and she does everything on it. it’s worth noting, that the things on her list are not at all what they would have been at the beginning of the show. most of them are humble “labor” type tasks, and all of them are in self improvement. tahani’s end on the show is not the same as everyone else’s. she realizes that she doesn’t need to be done. that there doesn’t have to be an end to self-improvement. and she becomes an architect. the writers perfectly embody her transformation from a self-obsessed rich girl who has never done a thing for herself and laughs at the lower-class to a down-to-earth worker that simply doesn’t want the journey to end.
it’s incredible how perfectly the writers were able to close off these character arc’s without it feeling forced, and without ignoring their character development. imagine that. tahani chooses her own way, and it’s beautiful.
jack
Tumblr media
jack’s ending may be the only one that i’ve actually somewhat come to terms with. it’s not terrible. it’s not great. but it’s not nearly as bad. because ignoring that awful monologue about every drop of rain and shit, jack really does end up helping people. he ends up doing something that he loves and that makes the world a better place. and he doesn’t lose his personality in it. but. i dunno, that’s still his destiny, right? to create paradise. and this is a show about ripping up the rule book, about choosing free will above all else… so to have every single character just fulfill their destiny is cheap.
still… i’ll try to be unbiased. because really at the beginning of jack’s time on the show, he’s unsure what he wants. and at least, in the end, he’s sure. he has a wisdom that he’s always had but he’s now using. and i’m good with that. but what’s NOT okay about jack’s ending is the lack of on-screen family. jack learns that family is important. sam, cas, dean those are the people he cares about. and you’re telling me he would just NEVER see them again? and be okay with that? i know he rebuilds heaven with cas, but we don’t even get a story about him rescuing cas from the empty. and he seems in 15.19 to not be that concerned about it (after the amazing emotional scene at the beginning). jack should have cared about his family. he did. but they ruined that for him. so jack kline deserved better.
michael
Tumblr media
oh man where do i start. michael’s growth is the biggest on the show. i mean. he starts as a literal demon and ends a human. he gets better, he falls in love with humanity (*castiel fan in me sobbing again*) and he chooses over and over to be good instead of bad. his whole arc is a classic redemption arc, and every single beat just gets better. he chooses selfishly to side with humans but in the end it turns out to be the best decision he could have made. because he develops emotions, he develops compassion, he develops a moral compass.
and his end reflects that. because to complete this arc of a demon becoming more human… he literally becomes human!!!! it fits so well. and he’s allowed to make mistakes and be happy and gain all that humanity has to offer. this just shows that human!endgame for cosmic beings that become more human WORKS SO WELL (and it shoulda happened for cas and jack that’s all i’m saying). michael went on his own terms, and it was beautiful.
eileen
Tumblr media
oh boy… this one stings. because they brought her back, used her up, and we never saw her again. eileen was one of the best side characters on the show, and they rarely addressed her arc. she comes onto the show as a hunter seeking revenge, and gets that revenge in the same episode. her s15 arc is focused on what’s real and what’s not, with her relationship to sam admittedly being a central part of her character because… it’s supernatural and women can’t exist without that. but still! eileen grows throughout the show and in the end… we don’t even know what happens to her. it’s as if her arc wasn’t important enough to even glance at.
it’s as if the connections the boys make outside of each other mean nothing when in reality they mean everything. they prove that the co-dependency is behind them and that family doesn’t end with blood and that real connections can be formed between people that last a lifetime. eileen was a disabled hunter that was shown to still be one of the best in the business, and they didn’t even give her the courtesy of a goodbye. eileen didn’t go on her own terms, and she deserved better.
janet
Tumblr media
this is gonna unbalance my list but goddammit janet’s ending was perfect. she was a not-robot, not-girl that should have been incapable of feelings. but throughout the series we get to watch as she learns first-hand about human emotions and processes them. she cares about the humans in her charge and fights for them on multiple counts.
in the end, we see janet come to terms with both her cosmic being side, and her human side. she never stops being with the “cockroaches.” she sees them all leave, she’s there for them while they’re there, and she also continues to speak her mind and live autonomously. janet was a non-human character done right. she lived on her own terms, and it was beautiful.
some honorable mentions
spn ignored (in the finale) chuck, amara, stevie, charlie, jody, donna, garth, bess, the other angels, claire, kaia, patience, alex, and the list goes ON in favor of focusing on JUST sam and dean. did none of those characters at least deserve a quick goodbye??????
the good place wrapped up multiple arcs i had completely forgotten about in a totally natural and not forced way. mindy, doug forester, (the mushroom guy, i know, it took me a second), pillboy, donkey doug, kamilah, tahani’s parents, eleanor’s mother, eleanor’s friends, chidi’s best friend, vicki, shawn, glenn, simone and so many that i’m forgetting all got satisfying ends that they totally deserved.
Tumblr media
they even fucking resolved FROG GUY’S arc and gave him a real frog. that’s right. frog guy (jeff) had a better character arc resolution than dean motherfucking winchester.
heaven and hell
obviously in very different vehicles, both shows explore in depth the realities of the afterlife. and lemme tell ya, at the end of the day, one sits a whole lot better than the other.
Tumblr media
the good place finale ends this quest for the perfect afterlife by saying that everyone can improve and that an eternal paradise shouldn’t keep you from eternal rest. they pretty much make me wish that this is what our afterlife looked like. they handle everything with care so it’s balanced precariously in a way that doesn’t give you anxiety looking at it but instead fills you with peace and faith in humanity.
supernatural addresses this series long battle between heaven and hell by creating a heaven where you drive for forty years without seeing the people (cough cough cas and jack not his parents) that matter to you and drink beer that tastes like shit. a place you can’t be happy or find any sense of peace until your brother has died and he’s there too.
Tumblr media
and hell… well they barely even address it. there’s a new queen of hell i guess? but so what. it’s still very much heaven and hell in a way that’s the worst and hey plus to them… makes me wanna stay alive thank you very much. oh and purgatory is in shambles and not functioning properly cuz all that eve bullshit.
loose ends
whenever something is ending, you gotta tie up the loose ends. not in a “oh, we must wrap everything up and leave no stone unturned” kinda way but in a “wow, we should probably try to make this unambiguous because this is the last time we will ever see these characters” kinda way.
the good place does that. so fucking masterfully. all these side plots with all these different characters were taken care of all while focusing on the main six characters. we get to see how their intervention has changed everyone else. for example, mindy’s arc is wrapped up perfectly, with eleanor going to save her.
Tumblr media
plus different running jokes like “take it sleazy” are wrapped up, we revisit really old callbacks like the original neighborhood, and all of it feels natural and in the moment. it feels like full circle in a way that doesn’t erase growth.
supernatural, on the other hand, left a million loose ends open. what happened to the boys they saved? where the fuck are jody, donna, etc.? did eileen make it back? cuz sam was pretty upset about that. what happened to it “being loud” in the empty? hell, what happened to the empty? what happened to hell? what about chuck? it woulda been nice to see just for a second what became of him. did charlie and stevie make it (i’m very invested in that relationship)? if we’re taking the original ending… why the fuck is jimmy there? did kansas just all,,, die?
i’m not saying they needed to address everything… but god a few wrapped up storylines besides the brothers wouldn’t have hurt
coloring
can i just… real quick… as a giffer lodge a complaint
the good place has beautiful vibrant coloring in the finale
spn has like bland washed out whatever the fuck that is coloring. it’s not even the dark early aesthetic cuz they dropped that it’s just… ew. so. do with that what you will.
conclusion
first… while writing this i realized just HOW MUCH it’s not about destiel… like believe me. i knew i wasn’t just pissed about destiel. but holy shit it’s not destiel at all like did i even mention destiel that much???? this was never about a ship. this was just a trash finale.
in the end. the good place writers knew what they were doing. they knew their fans, they knew their characters, they knew their world, and they knew how to wrap it up in a way that was satisfying and sad and perfectly fit the tone of the whole show. it wasn’t out of character or rushed, basically every loose end was tied up without the audience even realizing that’s what they were doing, and i feel happy and complete having watched it.
the supernatural ending was a betrayal. flat out. to the audience that has stuck by it in a way bigger way than the good place fandom. to the characters that have helped so many people. to the actors that have given so much of their lives. to the other members of the crew, to certain writers… all of it was just a slap in the face.
we deserved better guys. there are better endings possible. so i’m sorry. i really am. but i guess… that’s what fanfic is for, right?

I know I've talked before about how I don't really think it's due to try to hold the Nandermo pairing to ideological standards lest they aren't seen as a valid ship (there's a larger discussion here about holding queer / POC pairings in media to higher standards than we usually ever expect from white / het pairings) and something something this is a comedy show about vampires who routinely murder people etc etc, but I also wanted to say I think it's unfair to totally overlook the number of times both Guillermo and Nandor have made selfless sacrifices and decisions for the other's well-being just because 'sometimes Nandor is mean to him :(' . Off the top of my head I can recall:
- Nandor willingly, emphatically accepting a death sentence to spare Guillermo from being the Vampire Council's lunch, whereas if he had just let it happen they could have walked free
- Nandor rescuing Guillermo from zombie!Topher
- Nandor pulling Guillermo out of the line of fire from the Sire as he realizes this is his responsibility and Guillermo doesn't deserve to suffer for it
- Nandor refusing to turn Guillermo, not for selfish reasons, but because he can't bear to imagine him suffering in the same position, Guillermo deserves better than that, he decides
-When Nandor first discovers Guillermo's penchant for killing vampires he chooses to make it a personal secret between the two of them and ardently protects Guillermo from anyone finding out
- and of course basically everything guillermo does for the most part is with Nandor's best interest in mind
I mean, the essence of it is that this is a show about beings that routinely kill, maim, and eat people, while also being very whiny and loveably stupid, and part of the charm in watching them is seeing how they stumble and fuck up in their emotional expression and relationships before finally getting it right. They are selfish. They do shitty things to each other from time to time, but with every season grow closer as they learn more about what it means to be a team and a family. Watching them grow and learn how to care for each other in increasingly selfless ways is, again, part of the show's charm. It wouldn't be the same without it.
And silly as it sounds, there's realism to that. No relationship, friendship, close relationship between adults is ever going to be perfect or without issues. People who love each other argue. They can get on each other's nerves. They can do thoughtless things sometimes without realizing how it affects the other person. It's all about how those things are ultimately rectified and addressed. Looking for ideological perfection in ANY relationship is going to leave one empty-handed, I think. (ofc in Shadows these issues are a little exaggerated and supernatural-esque but you get what I mean lol)
Last point, something to ponder: Nandor and Guillermo are not yet in a romantic relationship and I don't think the ways they've navigated their master/familiar/best friend-ship is indicative of how that relationship will grow and change as they realize and embrace romantic feelings for each other, as things have already progressed immensely as is. The power balance has already tipped towards something far more equal than we saw in season one. Of all pairings, I think Nandermo deserves the time to grow and show us what they will become as a couple before the heavy hand of judgement claps down (ideally, it never will)

Rob Thomas Bad Mouthed Santa Clarita Diet
And we fell for it. There’s a reason why this blog is called Blind Rats.
Obviously, the show was a bit different other than the similar zombie genre. But Rob Thomas bad-mouthed ‘Santa Clarita Diet’ because he is a petty person that the show was well received by the fans and critics alike, so much, that back then many VMars iZombie fans and followers of him (including myself, unfortunately), sorta boycotted and refused to watch the show and even had a cold fandom war against the fans of Santa Clarita Diet.
Tumblr media
It’s one thing to have some sort of friendly competition between showrunners and shows, heck we see this every day with your favorite shows, it’s another thing to have THE show-runner actually badmouthing other show because it got better coverage, money, ratings, and big stars like Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant. But this was the first time many fans hear a showrunner bad-mouthing a show and the fact that many fans ate up his words. We were such blind rats.
Fans still remember vividly when Rob Thomas tweeted that Santa Clarita Diet was a direct copy of iZombie, a show about zombies who can function in real life as long they eat brains or humans. The similarity stops there because tonally both shows were different. iZombie was more about police procedural with its case of the week episodes and an arc, Santa Clarita Diet was more about a suburb romantic comedy sitcom-ish type with an overarching arc.
What made it weird was why Rob personally attacked Santa Clarita Diet, but not other zombie shows? He didn’t say anything about The Walking Dead, which was waaay more popular than other shows, and still going strong for a decade. His show iZombie was also a critical hit with good ratings and an army of fans. So why this particular zombie show? Did he have a grudge against the showrunner Victor Fresco? This was not the first time Rob said something against other people, albeit in a very passive-aggressive tone.
This blog mentioned how Rob was a bit envious of other writers. But when he was being a fanboy, he would not hesitate to copy or reference them in his shows, even hired them if necessary. He hired Kareem Abdul Jabar, Andrea Estella, Joss Whedon, and even referenced/inserting many shows/movies into his shows. So to have him talking badly about other people/show, they must be getting on his nerves.
Tumblr media
It all started with Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel mocking iZombie on their Late Night shows. Fallon called the show a buffet of junk food because the show had everything; zombies, police procedural, supernatural, mystery, etc.
Tumblr media
Kimmel said to Rose McIver, “The guys on the set must have been so happy when they came up with that premise.” He said it with a mocking tone. He even mocked Rose’s New Zealand accent. Many fans took it personally because let’s face it, Kimmel is a jerk in real life. Fallon is just Fallon.
Tumblr media
Even Conan O’Brien sorta mocked the premise of iZombie. The man is known for not researching his guests’ projects, so when Rose McIver told him about the premise of the show, Conan with his typical joke, started laughing and said something about The Walking Dead and zombies 🧟‍♀️ having falling skins and such, even though the show was nothing like TWD. Rose, being a polite guest, laughing along and pretending to be grossed out with the falling skins.
Rob’s response? He tweeted, “Well. At least they are talking about the show. A promo is a promo 🥲.” (Or something like that. It has been years)
So when those same late-night show hosts were PRAISING and happily promoting Santa Clarita Diet (Fallon is BFF with Drew Barrymore) and how much the show was funny and such, it struck a nerve for Rob. Conan was also the guy who mocked Veronica Mars, and now he mocked iZombie?
Tumblr media
Kristen Bell played it cool and said how much she hated the bust. But Conan kept going and seemingly mocking her show about the premise of teen detective.
Tumblr media
Not only the late-night show hosts were mocking both of his shows, but they were also complimenting and praising Santa Clarita Diet, a show on paper that was basically similar to iZombie. Maybe that was the reason he started to badmouthing Santa Clarita Diet? Was that the reason why he put many A-Lister celebs on Veronica Mars roster so people wouldn’t mock his show?
When the ratings for iZombie started to decline, and the ratings for SCD started to rise, Rob immediately called Jason Dohring and cast him in his show as a recurring cast. But this casting, although it helped the show, was not a competition with SCD. At all. iZombie was a TV network series while SCD was a streaming service series - they both weren’t in competition whatsoever. But as the word of mouth and popularity, SCD was above iZombie.
Tumblr media
Many people considered iZombie a good show, and it was. But it failed to recapture the same cult popularity as Veronica Mars. Many YouTube reactors who watched iZombie stopped in the middle as they lost interest and moved on to other projects. iZombie lost its momentum when it started to playing homage after homage from different genres of movies and TVs, even copying VMars plots, dialogues, and even music! It stopped being about the characters and became more about the plots. And we ALL know that it’s always been RT’s weakness.
Tumblr media
And when Veronica Mars fans criticized Rob for recycling his own plots from VM and Rat Saw God, HE DIDN’T UNDERSTAND why the fans were so riled up. He thought the fans would be pleased. And until this day, he still didn’t get it.
From the very beginning, it was clear that Santa Clarita Diet was about a family handling bad circumstances together and funnily. Each episode delivered laughter and snarky dialogues with simple plots and complex characters. But the best part about the show was the relationship between Sheila and Joel; they are married and very much in love even though they have been married for 20 years since after high school. Everyone was astonished that they were brilliantly written. They were the ultimate couple’s goal.
Tumblr media
It is possible to write a complex relationship about a married couple. It’s not a death sentence when two characters who are in love get married. In fact, they will have so much stuff to resolve and do. Joel and Sheila love each other, support each other, and if the show didn't get canceled, we would see more of their shenanigans and love.
Rob hates the idea of “stray away from the plan”. He had planned to have Liv and Major to be the ultimate goal from the beginning, and goddamn it, he would stick to the plan. He planned to have Duncan as Veronica’s soulmate, not Logan. He hated the idea of his work being dictated by fans or by the network. He didn't realize that sometimes plans can change. He didn't care whether the cast had chemistry or even good characterization; if he said that Major and Liv is the endgame, then they will be.
Major didn't have much of a personality at first. It wasn't until Diane Ruggiero decided that he needed some personality injection. Although not many people object to the pairing of Liv and Major, not many people cared that much. Rob, who didn't know to write personality, decided to copied Logan and Veronica’s confessions and even the music just to spice things up. The result was polarizing: the Veronica Mars fans thought that it was an insult towards LoVe storyline, but the iZombie fans who’d never seen VMars thought it was romantic. Again, he didn't understand why the fans got angry. He thought everyone would be pleased to see a homage or reference from VMars. Because he is so used to write homage after homage on his shows, he expected that the fans would be happy. He really is bad with gambling and reading the room.
Tumblr media
The cancellation also was rumored because of actors Robert Knepper and David Anders who were problematic behind the scene. Robert Knepper was accused of raping a few women, and David Anders was accused of being racially insensitive to certain minority groups. And as always, Rob Thomas never wanted to say anything whenever there were problems on set. The only actors who bravely showing support to the victims were Rahul Kohli, Rose McIver, Robert Buckley, and Malcolm Goodwin. Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero’s silence were defeaning.
Santa Clarita Diet was canceled in the middle of a cliffhanger where fans still want more. iZombie was canceled in a dud way where hardly any fans clamoring for more seasons, especially when Rob decided to have an exposition - letting the characters talk about what happened instead of actually showing it. It was a sad thing because iZombie was a decent show, and many of the cast were nice.
Rob has proven so many times that he gets jealous whenever someone/something is better than him and people respond positively but not to him. He is stuck in this circle of hell writing old-style and always think that he is better than anyone else because he refuses to listen to other people besides his peers and friends. Very doubtly that there will be a revival of iZombie especially after the disastrous new VMars.
