I'm not saying you should change the modern au, but I am asking you to imagine... Vasco with a motorbike and Machete hating every second of it the first time. The troupe! The opportunity for Vasco in biker leather!
I've been thinking about the possibility of Vasco having a motorbike, actually! I can imagine him looking fetching in leather. Too bad I know nothing about motorcycles.

Eli Jang x Yor Forger reader
Tumblr media
• You probably went to the Jaewon High together, but you guys first met at the park where you were taking your dog, Bond, for a walk. You played fetch with Bond, but instead of bringing the stick, he brought back a toddler.
• You panicked and immediately removed the girl from Bond's jaws and cradled her, looking around for her guardian. Finally, you heard a voice calling the girl's and a man with blonde hair running your way.
• You gave the girl back to the man and apologized and he said that all was forgiven as there were no scratch marks on the child and that he saw the dog saving the wandering child from a speeding motorcycle. The father, you assumed, introduced himself as Eli Jang, name which you were familiar of... Millie always gossiped about him during lunch at school... Isn't he from the beauty department?
• Soon enough, your meet ups at the park became more frequent and you even offered to babysit Yenna for him! Even Bond likes the child! Eli, as tired as he is, hesitantly agreed after the past few weeks of managing Hostel has been more chaotic.
• One day, he was trying to subdue these men that were terrorizing Hostel members. Eli could only have patience so much that when it ran out, he pummeled the men's skulls into the ground but is having a hard time fighting their leader.
• The leader then retreated to an alleyway and a bloodthirsty Eli followed after. He heard yelling and slashing from what was most likely knives piercing through flesh and turned to a hidden corner. He leaned his back to the wall and peeked, seeing a blur of black fabric. Before he could even interrupt, Warren and Sally pulled him back away from the area and back to Hostel. When he returned to the alleyway, he saw no sign of blood or weapons... That's strange... Must be an expert fighter from another gang.
• He went home and Yenna ran up to hug her father, and as he was going to greet you, he saw a bruise on your cheek. You nervously made up an excuse about slipping on the floor and hitting your cheek on the table corner, to which Eli sighed. He always noticed how clumsy you are, yet so agile at the right time of danger...
• Okay, he's starting to think that you do a lot more than yoga... The stunts you pulled while fighting off a thief on your way home was definitely martial arts. The way you slice food with a knife is terrifying. Hell, he even saw you climbing up the walls after one glance from a roach on the floor! Something's wrong, but for some reason, he can't quite figure it out... Maybe you'll tell him when the time comes, right?.... Right?
• Millie and the rest of the girls in Jaewon High are pretty jealous that you're so close with one of the most handsome men in the school. Despite your aloof demeanor, you actually made friends like Daniel, Vasco, Mira, Jace, Zoe, Jay... But you dont want any of them finding out your true colours.

Lookism: Ep 468 Reaction
SPOILERS ALERT
In this chapter, a new revelation was made regarding an intriguing question within the story, while a new question was asked.
Tumblr media
To Warren, Vasco, and Jerry's shock, the two Daniels battled it out with the intent to kill. The Body (I wouldn't call it Big Daniel since it's currently soulless and since there will be a panel that's granted will change your mind about it if you still see it as a living human being) was monstrously strong.
Tumblr media
Daniel was still the underdog of this intense battle but with his ultimate instinct he landed more hits on the Body than before. Unfortunately the Body could now copy even Taesoo, Jichang, and of course Gun, (obviously learning from how Daniel previously attacked it) at an alarming speed.
Tumblr media
The spectators (Warren & co.) wondered how Daniel was cornered, when he grew that strong already, but the answer was clear: the Body somehow, strangely, was more experienced. The Body even moved like someone the spectators had never seen before, but it was hinted that the person it copied was none other than Jake's notorious brother!
Tumblr media
(BUT THE BODY HAD NEVER MET JAKE'S BROTHER IN THIS TIMELINE. SO WHEN DID IT MEET HIM TO KNOW HOW TO COPY HIS MOVES...??? DUN DUN...)
Daniel finally landed a critical hit on the Body, and they both fainted.
That is, until the Body rose up again in this manner. (EEEEEPPPP THIS CAME STRAIGHT OUT OF THOSE ZOMBIE MOVIES I SWEAR)
Tumblr media
Vasco was almost attacked, so Warren and Jerry decided to bring "their friend" back to his senses, and Vasco joined them too. Even though they were tired as hell from their previous fights and would absolutely lose (GUYS GUYS IT'S A SHELL. DANIEL TELL THEM! OH WAIT YOU'RE OUT COLD).
Tumblr media
Elsewhere, Jake woke up not remembering much about the latter parts of his fight against drugged Samuel, but Alexander summed it up for him while massaging Samuel's feet (BWAHAHAHAH THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HOBIN & co. DID TO PEOPLE WHO FAINTED IN HOW TO FIGHT/VIRAL HIT).
Tumblr media
True to his mission, Jake left to find Jinyoung, whom he used to call "Uncle" and who loved him so much, being so gentle (I'm sad for the two of them). He walked alone and found Jinyoung's lab.
Tumblr media
Bongae already warned him about Jinyoung, but Jake greeted Jinyoung anyway, which incensed the pharmacologist because all that he saw in Jake was Jake's older brother...
...THE MURDERER OF KIM GABRYONG.
Tumblr media
Jinyoung seemed to have witnessed the violent tragedy alone and he had never been all right since, allegedly. And so with Gabryong's techniques that Jake inherited and Jinyoung copied, they prepared to fight...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's it for this week. I already sensed that Daniel was going to lose, and that the Body was unstoppable at this point. But seeing little Jake and young Jinyoung so happy and now so broken, broke my heart.

-Save Me From Her - chapter 5
Tumblr media
Tara Carpenter x fem!reader
Summary: Hospital talks, and much needed explanations.
a/n: Finally wrote this. Ohmygod it took so long. During writing, I got caught on my own missinterpretations of my own lore, and had to rewrite the story in my head lol. Help me :)
warning: amateur writing, mentions of trauma, mad people, death, wounds, cursing, multiple/mixed POV's
Tara was freaking out. There wasn't any news from you. Even though the doctors said you would be okay, nobody said any facts that she could work with. The only thing even subtly calming her was the steady beeping of your heart monitor, but even that wasn't enough for her anxiety to go away, and her friends were enjoying the fruits of its labor. Well, rather suffering than enjoying. If Tara wouldn't be freaking out, she would laugh at her state right now. But she was. And she wasn't enjoying one second of it.
You have arrived at the hospital a few hours ago. Tara couldn't keep track of time, everything was slow, too slow for her liking. Even when she asked about how long it's been, the information would just leave her mind the moment she heard it. Anika arrived with the rest of the squad not long after the Carpenters and was in a similar state of mind as Tara. Or was it long until they arrived? The younger Carpenter really couldn't tell.
They sat in a circle in the waiting room. Even detective Bailey was there, with an arm around her daughter. Chad and Ethan sat next to each other, silently trying to not get eaten up by their nerves. Mindy managed to calm Anika down enough for her to sit in her lap, still her leg was bouncing up and down, her nails close to disappearing the way she was biting them. Vasco was ordered to stay at the precinct and restore order. Sam also joined the group, after changing her clothes for something less bloody. Tara wasn't willing. Not when she could miss the moment, they would let her in your room. She was pacing around, unable to sit down, her mind running with possibilities of how the doctors mistreated you, and that somehow resulted in you dying. Which couldn't happen. It was out of the question.
Whenever a doctor would approach, she would stop and look at them with hopeful eyes, only for it to be shattered when they approached someone else. It wouldn't matter that they got bad news. It wouldn't matter they broke out in tears. At least they got to know whether their loved ones are alive or dead.
The rush towards the hospital was anything but smooth. After you collapsed on the floor, Bailey stuffed you in a police car and sirened his way to the closest medical station. Tara was in the back with you, trying to keep you awake without any success. Sam sat beside her, trying her best so her sister wouldn't fall apart, failing. Once the doctors got their hands on you, you were rushed into surgery, and did not let anyone in. Tara hasn't seen you since then. It was nerve ending and infuriating. Yet she couldn't do anything. She felt helpless. She hated feeling helpless.
A stern, deep voice broke her out from her fear induced state. "Are you, with Y/N Kayoko?"
The speed at which Tara span around would impress her if she could care about that right now. "Yes! Yes, we are." She felt someone putting a hand on her back, and when she looked, she saw Anika beside her, face full of concern. The doctor who stood before them was about six-foot-tall, pale white and had blonde, stylish hair. Tara decided she didn't…
"She got out of surgery. She is alive and well. It shouldn't take long for her to wake up."
Tara decided she liked this man a lot. Anika let out a breath she was holding and smiled at him. "Thank you doctor. Can we see her?" she asked, her voice full of hope. The blonde smiled before nodding and started leading them towards your room. Sam and the Meeks’ followed right behind them whilst the rest stayed behind.
------------
You were stationed in room 217. 'Of course, they would put you there' Tara thought and huffed. She rolled her eyes as her mind drifted towards 'The Shining'. You would refuse to watch it with her, because, in your words, it was a disgrace to the book and the legacy of Stephen King.
Tara slowly opened the door and looked inside. The sun was shining through the window, right onto your sleeping figure. For someone sliced up from the side of your belly to your chest, you didn't look bad. She felt Anika stiffen beside her, and it sent her mind running. What did she see that her eyes had glanced over? She took you in again, not sparing any detail, yet she still couldn't find what Anika did. Her heart started racing as she turned towards her. "What do you see?"
"N- nothing" Anika managed. She took in a deep breath, then went to your side, Tara following close behind her. "It's just… The last time I saw her like this, she almost died. Before and after." Even though her words didn't make a lot of sense to Tara, her heart clenched at the thought that you were like this before. But she let it slide. Your sister was clearly just as tense as she was. She would have to ask you.
Tara knelt beside you, and took your hand in hers, squeezing lightly. Her nerves were finally calming down as she watched your sleeping figure. She synchronized her breathing with yours, and without realizing, tucked a strain of hair behind your ears, that fell into your face as you slept. How could you look gorgeous even, when you just lost gallons of blood, not even talking about the demanding surgery you went through right after that. Just as beautiful than the day she… No! She stopped herself before the thought could cross her mind. No way in hell you had that much of an effect on her. She did not just almost quote something. She refused to believe that.
The light chatter of Mindy, Chad and Sam filled the room and mixed with the song of the birds coming from outside. The peaceful tranquility that pulsed through the room felt false. You almost just died, and the fucker that attacked you, was still out there somewhere. Tara knew she wouldn't stop until he was dead.
Without realizing, her grip tightened around your hand. Only when you groaned in pain did she notice that she was squeezing the life out of your arm. Then she realized you were awake. Her eyes snapped back to your face, and when she saw your opened eyes as you were watching her, Tara's breath caught in her throat. You were awake. You were alive. You didn't leave her.
The younger Carpenter opened her mouth to speak, but Anika beat her to it. "You braindead monkey!" she lashed out as she started hitting you, careful not to hit any wounds. "You absolute selfish… Morron!"
You groaned out in pain and tried to defend yourself. "Ani- Anika stop!" but she didn’t listen. “Are you guys just going to watch her kill me?” you asked from everyone else in the room.
“Oh, I’m not going to stop her” Mindy smiled.
“Yeah, you brought this to yourself you know” Tara joined in.
You huffed, and moved away from her reach, but Anika followed, and hit you, this time a little more powerful. "This hurts!"
"Good!" she said, emphasizing her point with another hit. "You get attacked, and I'm one of the last person to know about it?"
"Sorry!"
"Sorry isn't good enough! You left me clueless for more than half a day!" she hit your one final time, then continued a much calmer, loving voice. "Now, where does it hurt?" Tara and Sam raised an eyebrow at her sudden change, but you and Mindy didn't even bother.
"Where do you think it hurts? You've just covered all my body with new bruises!" you exclaimed, and wildly gestured at yourself.
"Oh, don't be such a baby! Show me!" You complied with a frown on your face, and raised your shirt. You lifted the cloth to reveal the bandages lying underneath and smirked at Anika.
“Enjoying the view, dear sister?”
“You know I don’t” she replied whilst pouting, even though nothing could be seen.
You then remembered why you got here. Who you got here because and your mood immediately darkened. Any joy, coming from the witty fight with your sister, any happiness from the thought there were people at your bed vanished. Disappeared. Got swallowed by the black hole of dread inside you.
Tara noticed this. Anika noticed this. Everybody saw it on you. Suddenly the room felt suffocating and cold. This was what Tara anticipated the room should have felt like, yet now she wanted the former state to take over once again. She wanted you to feel the peace she felt, the relievement that washed through her when she saw you, but it was far out of reach now.
“Hey, you know we are here, right?” Anika asked of you, and gently put her hand on yours. Tara sat down beside you two and did the same with your shoulder. The Carpenter felt it was a bit cliché, but when Anika smiled at her, and you eased a bit under her touch, the feeling faded.
It took you about a minute to be able to talk. Neither of them let go of you, not even for a second. You couldn’t be more grateful for them. You calmed downed slowly, as they eased you in just the right way. "Is everyone alright?"
Anika rolled her eyes before asking back. "Shouldn't you be worried about yourself?"
"Me and Tara didn't get hurt, if that's what you are thinking about" Sam answered you after you threw a pointed look at your sister. "But the cops… weren't that lucky. Six dead, seven other still in surgery."
"Vasco?"
"I ordered him to stay behind" Bailey's voice cut through the room. He was now standing at the newly opened door, looking firm. "Someone needs to restore order, and now that… And he is the next highest ranking cop there. You know, you really scared us back there?"
Relief flooded through you, knowing he was alright. "It takes more than a cut to bring me down Wayne."
"Any idea who the attacker might have been?" he asked, as he entered the room and stood next to you.
You swallowed before answering. "No. I couldn't really get a proper look at him." Both Anika and Tara narrowed their eyes at you. They knew your signs, and you were lying. There was no denying it. The only question was; why? "Is there anything on the footages of the cameras?"
"He entered the building in costume, and none saw where he went, or how he disappeared, since he cut the power. The smoke must have come from grenades taken from our storage, because there were several missing."
After he finished, silence overtook the room once again, but this time it was awkward. Bailey, noticing that his intrusion has caused this, squeezed your left shoulder tightly, and started heading out. "It's good to have you back, kiddo" he said from the door, before leaving the room. As goodbye, you threw him a weak smile.
You contemplated whether you should say your next sentence before everyone or not. From one side, you did promise your father, you would keep the secret inside the family, from the other, everything said to either Tara or Anika would then be told to Mindy and Sam. Maybe not Sam, but Mindy would surely know. Your thought process was stopped when she spoke.
"Can I start theory crafting now Ika?" she asked, hope evident in the way she spoke.
"Only after my dear sister here explains why she would lie to Wayne" Anika answered, further narrowing her eyes at you. Tara also drew back, expecting you to explain yourself.
"I don…" you started but stopped yourself when Tara raised an eyebrow. You then sighed, and caved in. "Because I promised father we would always keep it inside the family." As Anika's eyes widened in realization, so narrowed the young Carpenter's in confusion. When she looked at the others, she found them just as dumb-founded as she was. "Kiks, I believe it was Anna" you said.
"Who's that supposed to be?" Sam asked.
"Someone who blew up, got burned to death and is now six feet underground" Anika blurted out, not even bothering looking behind her so she would talk towards Sam. She took a deep breath, and continued more calmly. "She's dead Y/N."
"I heard her voice from behind the modulator" you said, a little irritated. "It was her! I know it's her."
Anika looked unconvinced. Everybody else was clueless, and it could have been seen from miles. "Should we leave you alone so you two could talk this through?" the older Carpenter asked and stood.
"Yes, that may be helpful" your sister thanked her.
Whilst the others got ready to leave, Tara looked at you with doe eyes. She didn't want to let you out of her sight, not after what happened. She grasped your hands, like it was her lifeline.
"We'll be quick; I promise" you nudged her. Reluctantly, she let you go, and started scattering out the bed. She stood beside the bed for a moment, then leant back in and kissed you, something she had wanted to do since the moment you woke. You kissed her back, grinning against her lips, then pushed her back and out the bed. "Go" you ushered her with your hands. She threw you an unimpressed look, before leaving the room.
After Mindy closed the door behind herself, she was all over Tara. "What was that?" she asked teasingly, a huge smile plastered on her face. Tara tried to hide her blushy smile, but failed miserably.
"After dinner, and before the… the first attack, we…" She cleared her throat and started looking for words as she reminded herself of the memory of you pulling her in, hands roaming her. "We had a moment."
Mindy all but shrieked at the news, whilst Chad and Sam were only smiling at her. They looked happy for her, and all she wanted to do was to wipe their smug looks off their face. "Tell. Me. Everything!" Mindy demanded and Tara was then forced to do as she said. When she left out even the slightest detail, she would get smacked, and would need to correct her mistake. Her friend felt tyrannical, and cruel. When she accused her of this, she would just thank her for it, and nudge her on.
"Time to pay up Chad!" Mindy declared, and held her hand out towards her brother after Tara finished.
"You betted on whether we would get together?!"
"No, we betted on when you would get together. It took way more time than we first thought!" she answered and after Chad handed her a fifty, started rummaging through her bag for her purse.
"This much?!"
"Well, after months the stakes only grew" the Meeks woman explained nonchalantly. "Now, Sam, this should cover yours?" Mindy asked as she gave her the fifty she just got from Chad, and some more notes she took out from her purse.
"Et tu Sam?"
"Sorry!" she apologized, sincerity far avoiding her voice. "At first I thought it was stupid and unserious, but after a while, it got boring, and I wanted in."
Tara rolled her eyes. God she hated them.
---------
Not long later, the door to your room swung open, and Anika invited everyone back in. She looked a bit sad and tired. Arguments with you, often had that effect on people.
"So, you believe it now?" Mindy asked from her.
"I… Just get in" she said, bit agitated. "We'll explain a few things to you, since we believe we owe that to you."
"You're damn right" Chad spoke, and entered the room, the others quickly following suit.
Tara immediately walked over to you, and lay beside you on the bed, nudging herself into your side. Your heartrate was normal, and it filled her ears, relaxing your body, because it was proof, that you were alive, and would stay that way, at least for a little while longer. You placed a hand around her shoulders and kissed her forehead in response, as you too, relaxed into her.
You waited for everyone to be seated comfortably, and only afterwards did you start speaking. "Annabelle is our half-sister. She was loving, caring and overall a very nice person. Then, an incident happened. You see, since I was born, I've had a heart disease. I was a ticking time bomb, that wouldn't wait for long to show it's teeth." You told them about the symptoms you had, pained chest and all the other shitty things you have had to live through. You told them, that how it worsened when you were eight. Doctors gave you slim to none chance, of you surviving without a transplant, yet because of other circumstances, there were very little of those that were donated by donors that were compatible with you, and none of them were within arms-reach. The only one that could have been used, was that of your mothers. "We had many arguments over this. Neither me, nor Anna accepted the fact that this was the only way, yet I was hospitalized more and more. During one of these arguments and after me I having been stabilized in a hospital, my heart… gave up."
Tara felt you tense when you started talking about what had happened whilst you were blacked out. You were rushed in the surgery once again, but this time your mother accompanied you… and never came back. She felt your somberness, your sadness and your anger, and wished she could just take it away. Yet she couldn't.
Anika took over, since you couldn't continue talking. "Annabelle didn't take the news of the procedure well, so even before it began, she had to be sedated. None of us really know what happened, but she went mad. After waking up, she strangled the woman looking after her, and then brutally murdered all the doctors that had saved Y/N's life. After that, she came for us. She cracked in father's skull, knocked me out and almost killed Y/N too. Uncle Vasco saved us. Our father got sent to a rehab center, and has been there ever since. Annabelle got locked in an asylum, where only Y/N visited her."
"You said she died" Sam spoke. "How?"
"The institution burned to the ground two years later. Her burnt body had been identified."
Silence filled the room. You nestled into Tara more, and synchronized your breathing with hers. She couldn't describe the feelings flowing through her, there were simply too much. Rage, sorrow, anger, misery, fury, bitterness… It was overwhelming her. How could you be so cheery and happy after going through so much shit? Her admiration for you had never been stronger. Your heartrate slowly relaxed her again, yet the emotions didn't go away now. They were only dampened.
"How… How did we never hear about this?" Mindy asked. "It should have been all around the news!"
"It happened in 2011" you explained. "Same year Prescott returned to Woodsboro. We weren't big enough to rival the amount of waters she bothered, thank god. We were able to stay pretty much under the radar. Uncle dealt with the rest."
"You saying she is alive?"
"I'm almost certain. I don't know how she's alive, but it's her."
"So what now?" Tara asked sheepishly. She was afraid she would need to leave your side, and she quickly turned out right as you started scrambling out of bed.
"We kill her" you said, voice plain and emotionless.
Sam huffed at your statement. "A room full of cops couldn't deal with her, not speaking of your current state. You can't fight like this Y/N."
"My wound? Oh please" you mocked, as you reached the end of the bed. "It doesn't even hur- Motherfucker!" you exclaimed as pain rushed through your side after a sudden move.
"Case in point" Sam said.
"This won't stop me" you replied, more determined than ever. "Also, I have an advantage over her."
"And what would that be?"
"I know her weakness."

WIP Wednesday
I’m sorry for being so far behind on all the tag games, I appreciate every single tag! I’m just so tired! this is only the second week in my new job and my brain is still feeling like a fried egg.
But I’d like to share a rough snippet from my latest Starfield wip, ‘What We Leave Behind.’
Tumblr media
“Approaching vessel, this is Freestar space. Please hold your current speed and course while we scan you for contraband.”
Sarah’s eyes refocused, and she took a moment to adjust to her new surroundings in orbit above Akila before scrambling to take back hold of the controls. She steadied the ship and dialed the engines back.
Phew, Freestar Security could still be a little jumpy following the war. Rarely would they wait long before assuming you were hostile. But could they have at least done her the courtesy of waiting for the grav drive to spin down first, and her head along with it?
She tutted to herself, aware that the Constellation registry didn’t do her any favours in Freestar space; they were treated as though they were UC Military. Still, the approval to land at Akila City took longer than expected.
“You’re good to go. Have a nice time in Akila City,” said a decidedly cheerier but forced voice over the comms.
“Thank you,” Sarah sent back through gritted teeth. What was it that Aja used to say? Kill them with kindness? Rise above! Aja, I’m trying.
The Frontier may sound like it’s falling apart just before the grav jump, but it was still a reliable ship, and it felt good to let the old girl stretch her legs. And with an experienced hand at the controls, even in Akila’s gravity, she landed light as a feather at the makeshift spaceport.
It had been a while since Sarah had visited Akila City, and she remembered why the moment the cargo bay doors opened. She disliked the state of the place intensely and wrinkled her nose in disgust.
Whyever did Solomon Coe choose Akila, anyway? Sarah mused. The oppressive gravity that made her feel like she had lead in her boots couldn’t have been ideal for a farming community that involves, you know, lots of manual labour?
The Freestar Collective consider themselves a hardy bunch, but this took the biscuit. Not to mention the local wildlife. It’s hardly an ideal planet to settle and raise a family.
At least New Atlantis was built to complement Jemison’s environment, Sarah thought to herself. Unlike the ugly wall of Akila City, surrounding what amounted to little more than a shanty town. She had always understood why Sam had dreamed of escaping this place.
“Hello Commander, can I be of assistance?” Vasco greeted her at the end of the ramp.
Sarah paused, scanning the area with her naked eyes, catching movement, a gang of local kids, perhaps? Or thieves waiting for an opportunity to steal from a ship? “No, Vasco. Protocol Blue. Wait here, guard the ship.”
“Protocol Blue, very well.” 💙

Lookism Vasco x black fem reader! Misunderstandings!
You are best friends with Daniel and Vasco thinks you two are in a relationship.
Tumblr media
"Daniel!" You and ran at the tall boy full speed than jumped on his back making him let out a surprised grunt from you
"Y/n be careful you might fall off!"
"Oh hush i'm not going to fall and besides your strong enough to carry little old me!"
"Little my ass..."
"What was that?!" You pulled on his ear making him yell out in pain.
"Also think of this as punishment for making me do your homework! Again!!" You say while putting him in a headlock causing him to chock and try to prior arms off of him which was difficult.
"O-oh come on I said I'd make it up to you! Y/n please have mercy!"
"You said that last time you dweeb!" As this was happening Jace and Vasco were walking by and watched the scene.
"Looks like Daniel once again has managed to piss off Y/n." Jace says shaking his head watching you killing the poor boy Vasco just stayed silent.
"Vasco you good buddy?"
Jace to look at what his friend was looking and of course it was you watching a smile on your face. Jace winced he knew his best friend had a crush on you the girlfriend of Daniel Park and it hurt to see Vasco sad that the girl he liked was already taken.
"H-hey don't sweat it man there's plenty of other girls out in the world out there who would like you!"
"But I don't like other girls I like her..." He says still looking at you.
Damn that hurt. The first time Vasco had met you was in the cafeteria where you stood up for a girl who's being bullied by boys Vasco immediately came to your defense but you already handled the issue by punching one of the guy's in the face for trying to touch you he was out like a light. Vasco was surprised that such a small girl like you could have pack a punch not only that you were sweet and kind always there to help others that was one of the main reasons why Vasco liked you so much because of your kind heart and that you always gave him some food and snacks along with nice cold milk.
"Hey! Vasco!"
Both boys look up and see you running towards them causing the Burn Knuckle leader to sweat nervously a tiny blush appearing on his face.
"We still on for cleaning duty right?"
He nods his head unable to speak any words you give him a grin.
"Alright than let's go!"
You grab his arm and drag him to the class Vasco looks back at Jace with a nervous look but all his friend did was give a smile while giving a wave.
(Later)
You and Vasco were in the art room cleaning you had to move some stuff not like you got an issue with Because You Loved art class the issue is that you were going to be doing it by yourself and nobody wanted to help which it was when Vasco took the opportunity to volunteer and help which was really sweet of him to do considering how busy he usually so you were lucky he was here cause you were to small to reach some things is standing up on chairs always made you scared you were going to fall backwards and hit your head.
"Thanks for volunteering to help me out Vasco I really appreciate it."
He gives you a nod taking a heavy box of paint out your hands he flinched as his hands laid on top of yours he quickly took the box out your hand and apologized.
"S-sorry! I didn't mean to do that!"
"Haha It's fine Vasco don't worry."
He blushed hearing your laugh it was so cute but he was embarrassed that you were laughing at him. Next thing he knew you walked towards him and gently grab a hold on to his hand making him freeze up at your gently touch.
"Wow I never noticed how big your hands were compared to mine!" You say amazed while in twining your hands together with his Vasco felt a bit faint you were so close he never has been this close to a girl before and having you holding his hand while standing so close just did not help it just made his feelings for you grow bigger. He of course tried to suppress them knowing that you were his friend's girlfriend but at the same time he wasn't sure if that was true or not seeing as they were just rumors he heard but he wanted to know for himself so this was the perfect opportunity for him to find out so he can confess his feelings for you!
He took a deep breath getting your attention he looked you dead in the eyes with a serious face expression.
"Y/n if it's okay can I ask you something?"
"Sure ask me anything I'll be completely honest!" You say smiling not letting go of his hand they were just so warm you didn't want to let go.
"What is...what is your relationship with Daniel?"
Well that definitely caught you off guard you tilted your head at him confused at the strange question.
"Huh me and Daniel? Oh we've known each other since we were kids, we're really close!" You say looking at him with a soft smile making his heart beat faster.
"Your that close huh?" He held your hands tighter not enough to hurt you of course but just enough to know that he did not want to let your hand go.
"Yeah. Though he can be annoying sometimes and no matter how many fights he gets himself in I still love the idiot."
And there it was Vasco's heart broken in a million pieces at your words and felt his shoulders drop down.
"O-oh I see sorry." He let go of hands making you look up at him shocked at the loss of his warmth.
"I-i should probably leave now I'll talk to you later Y/n..." Before you could say anything he walked out the class with his head down making you worried. Since that conversation Vasco has been avoiding you like the plague and doesn't help you with cleaning he had gotten someone else to take his spot, it honestly made you upset that even Daniel tried to talk too him but didn't get any information so you talked to Mira a about it at lunch.
"I just don't get it Mira!"
"And you say he's been avoiding you since that day?"
"Yes! It's been bugging me I don't know what to do!"
"Okay run this by me again from the beginning."
"Well he asked me about me and Daniel's relationship and I told him that we've been closed since middle school."
Uh huh.
"And that no matter how much trouble he gets himself in I still love the idiot. And he got sad than left." You say taking a sip from your drink Mira froze turned to look at you eyes wide.
"You love Daniel?!"
"Well yeah he's my best friend why wouldn't I love him?"
"You mean you love love him or do you love him as a friend?"
"As a friend of course!" You stared at her with confusion as she let out a sigh looking at you with a frown.
"Oh Y/n you are so oblivious sometimes ya'know that?"
"What do you mean?"
"What I mean is that I think Vasco got the wrong idea of what you meant by you loving Daniel."
"The wrong idea?"
"You really don't know?!"
"Know what?"
Mira nearly threw her food at you but stopped herself she didn't want to be a violent person unlike Zack.
(Zack somewhere in class sneezing)
"Oh my god are you serious? You're the smartest student in school how do you not know?!"
"Just tell me what I need to know woman!!"
"Ugh! Y/n! Vasco likes you!" Mira yelled at the top of her lungs glaring at you making you drop your food eye's wide as dinner plates. He likes me? Vasco? The Burn Knuckle leader likes me?! Me? Of all people me?!
You sat there silent making Mira look at you worried before she could touch your shoulder you stood up cleaning up you food and running towards the door.
"W-where are you going?!"
"I'm going to that idiot!"
"Which one?"
"Vasco! And I'm going to get so damn answers from that boy!" With that you ran full speed looking for him Mira stared after you letting out a small sigh and a smile on her face shaking her head Vasco was in a lot of danger and she'd hoped that he could manage how to explain himself to you.
(Listen to this while reading👇)
As you were running in the hallway bumping into some people who glare your way telling you off but you honestly could care less all you were focused on was findng Vasco you looked everywhere you run into Daniel's class he looked up and saw your face flustered from running.
"Y/n you okay?"
"Where is that idiot?!"
"H-huh? Who?"
"Vasco! That's who now where the hell is he?!" You say everyone just looked at you confused and slightly scared because you sounded angry.
"U-um?"
You turned to look at Jiho who had his hand up looking at you nervously.
"I think he's in his class."
"Thanks!" You left Daniel got up from his seat.
"Y/n wait!"
Daniel called out for you to be was about to run after you to see to see if you needed help but Zach held on his wrist causing Daniel to look at him confused Zack he just shook his head with a annoyed look on his face.
"Don't even try it pretty boy she's on a mission."
"A mission?"
Zack just went back to sleep ignoring Daniel's question as for you, you got into the architecture department you saw the burn knuckle gang and they turned to you hearing the front door slam open.
"Is *huff* Vasco *huff* here?"
"Uh he just left."
"Yeah ya just missed him."
you let out a groan in annoyance and continue to run you were honestly tired but you forced you legs to keep going hey you thought back at his sad face and when you told him that you love Daniel which you wanted to kick yourself for because how did you not notice that he liked you honestly why didn't he tell you that he liked you? You were going to get answers out of that boy one way or another! You got to the front entrance and you could see him just his back though you ran out the door full speed then called out to him in rage.
"Vasco!!!!!!" He turned around with a frown but then his eyes got wide when he saw you running at him his face went from confused to terrified at your face expression (face👇)
Tumblr media
"Don't you dare take another step forward!"
He looked scared Jace who was standing next to him slowly slides away not wanting to get hit by the deranged angry girl running towards his friend.
"You're not going anywhere until you answer some questions!"
"Y-y/n clam down!" Vasco held his hands up trying to defend himself but you just continued running at him than jumped at him arms wide open he held his arms out to catch you and when he did he held you close arms around your waist and spun you around he even feel backwards with you on his chest.
"Y/n! Are you okay?!" He asked in a panicked voice checking to see if you were hurt anywhere you just hide your face in his chest.
"I'm not going to look at you until you tell me that God honest truth!"
"T-the truth?"
"Is it true that you think that me and Daniel are dating?"
"Y-yes."
"When I told you that I love Daniel that is the truth I love him."
"I know..." He frowns down at you hands holding your smaller ones you than looked up at him with a frown.
"As a brother!"
"H-huh?"
"I love Daniel as a brother! I've known him since we were in Middle School we grew up together and I've never once saw him in that way so what I meant that 'I love him' I meant love him as family!" You held his cheeks making him look into your eyes, his were wide and had tears in them poor boy was getting emotional.
"So-so your not dating?"
"No!"
"And you aren't in love with him?"
"Yes!"
"W-what? I thought you said you weren't?!"
"Huh? No I meant yes as in yes you're right I am not in love with Daniel!"
"O-oh." He blushed making you frown at him you got up turning you back at him arms crossed.
"Ugh! Your such a fool sometimes Euntae Lee!" He flinched at your angry tone and at you using his full name.
"But I guess that's one of the reasons why I like you so much." You say softly still not looking at him because your face was red. He let out a surprised gasp along with Jace who was standing on the sidelines.
"You mean it?"
"Yes."
"You like me?"
"Yes."
"And not as a friend?"
"Yes!" Next thing you knew you were being picked up and hugged by the tall boy who was hiding his face in your neck crying tears of joy.
"I'm so happy! Y/n I'm so happy you like me back!"
"H-hey stop it your getting my uniform dirty come on!" You say kicking your feet in the air trying to remove him from you. But he didn't listen and just hugs you tighter making you blush a bit but you're blush only deepen once you heard the loud cheers and clapping from your classmates, your friends and the Burn Knuckle gang.
"Woohoo go Vasco!"
"Its about damn time!"
"She did all that running just to confess her feelings?!
"How romantic!"
"Wish someone did this too me one day!"
"Uh I have you chocolate for your birthday babe?"
"Shut up that's not the point!!!"
"I feel like I'm living in a TV drama this is so cute!"
"Those two? A couple? I mean good for them but what about me?!"
"Oh shut the hell up man! This isn't about you!"
"I'm so happy for you Y/n and Vasco!" Yelled Daniel smiling along with Jay who was also smiling, Zack just rolled his eyes.
"Congratulations Y/n and Vasco!" Yelled Mira yells out clapping with a goofy smile on her face you just shot her a bird behind hiding your face in Vasco chest in embarrassment.
"Thank you everyone!!!!" Vasco yelled at the top of his lungs grinning like he's won the lottery all you can do is just shake your head and hide your blushing face still In the boy's arms.
"I'm never going to live this down."
"Jace your the best man at our wedding!"
"Huh!??! Already!?"
"Yes and we'll have five kids together Y/n I want to be with you forever!"
"Five?! We are NOT having five kids Euntae Lee!"
"That's the second time you've said my name your so cute Y/n!" He spins you around in circles making you scream in his arms.
"Stop it you goof ball!"
Jace just shakes his head smiling at the couple.
"Those two are going to make this year a wild ride."

Reaction to Ep 462
SPOILERS ALERT
THREE major revelations take place in this episode and there will soon be a backstory that some readers are looking forward to reading.
Tumblr media
So Jake (Gimyung) met Daniel (Hyungseok) outside of the Grimm clinic when he did his own reconnaisance. Then they both agreed on capturing CEO Charles Choi (Choi Dongsoo) and Park Jinyoung. Jake was bent on getting back at Charles for what happened to Big Deal and Daniel of course wanted to get his second body back (and uncover that mystery). They separated and agreed to meet on D-Day (the asylum attack).
I really love this interaction. Danny calls Jake "hyung" (older bro) and I wish that someday they could remain good friends. They were also joking a little bit about how useful Jake might be (or not...hahaha their short banter was everything).
Tumblr media
Anyway they arrived at Jihan's holding cell and set him free (it was so easy, the plot must be moving at the speed of lightning again). Zack (Jinsung) came rescuing Jibeom and Hudson (Hyunsung) who, fyi, fainted after the monster's attack before Eli (Hyun) dragged it (him?) down with him two episodes ago. It was so funny, he was pissed that he was left alone helping them (I hope Vasco's fine somewhere... COME ON SOMEBODY FIND HIM).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And lo and behold, the ominiscient "Forever Man" is none other than Jihan's insane cell mate. The man is not called "Forever" for nothing. He was the first victim of Workers (lhae)'s forced confinement.
This is the first revelation.
The man's also Baek Hangyeol's father.
Tumblr media
So somehow Hangyeol cheated the system as a minor to cosign with his mom in order to imprison his dad for reasons of insanity (I wonder if there'll be more to this backstory, like Jasmine [Youngmi]'s dad way back then who was actually a sexual molester to her).
Back to the present time, The Forever Man led Allied to a set of emergency stairs that they couldn't find before (because it's walled from the outside). And per Hangyeol's instruction, Taejin was already waiting for them at the first basement, all prepared. (CHEONLIANG BACKSTORY SOON!)
The mere sight of Taejin smirking drove Vin (Hobin) to anger and tears and soon they began to fight as Vin was determined that no witnesses should be left alive, implying that Taejin was an eyewitness to the murder that Vin had to commit in the past, or to whatever happened to Mary (Miru).
That is the second revelation in the episode, btw.
Tumblr media
Hangyeol also told Park Jinyoung to prepare. And by preparing he meant to use his three reprogrammed victims (Big Danny, Johan and Samuel [Seongeun]) to launch an attack against Allied.
Yep his experiments were apparently to turn them into some sort of soldier/bioweapons thingy and see which one of them was the strongest (predictable, I wish it was related to the double bodies). Thanking the mad scientist for not shaving Johan and Samuel bald.
This is the third and final revelation in this episode.

(Characters are from @canisalbus)
Something very different from what i usually draw and from my last Vaschete fanart. I love those guys so i really wanted to make more fanart, but i didn't know what to draw exactly.
Here, i tried to paint Machete, Vasco and Smollchete in the style of the character portraits in Disco Elysium. I don't think i quite achieved that effect, but i still liked the end results.
Smollchete is further away from the usual character portraits in DE, but it was on purpose because i wanted to emphasize how he's just a little guy. And the little guy gets smaller and smaller...
In retrospective (because i finished this art a few days ago) Disco Elysium's style of painting doesn't really seem to mix the colors, which i did a lot here, specially on Machete. Also not a lot of gradients like i did on Vasco. They also shade with much more wild and different colors.
I'm going to put all the rest of my madman ramblings below. It's long and your mileage may vary if you played Disco Elysium or not (no spoilers tho.)
---
Okay, so... As i had the idea of making these disco elysium style portraits but with the gay catholic dogs, i had just beaten Disco Elysium. And so, as i was doing my things in my day to day life, waiting for the opportunity to actually draw them, i kept thinking about skill interactions with the boys, like if your main character talked to them and had enough points in the skill.
Things like Half-light identifying Machete as a brutal and hardened survivor just by looking at his eyes, but Physical Instrument doesn't believe that because Machete looks like just a spindly noodle. And Half-light would be like no bro, trust me, this guy is hardcore.
Shivers or Spirit-de-Corps would tell you how Machete is treated among his fellow bishops and how he's either vilified or seen as a tool. And at that Inland Empire would pipe in saying “He is treasured. But not here.” because yeah we love him. Despite almost everyone in his world hating his guts
Also yeah Reaction Speed clocking Machete as super paranoid. Specially considering maybe in this universe you'd be investigating one of his assassination attempts or maybe even something sinister that Machete had done.
Reaction Speed: “His eyes dart across the room, checking if you have any backup. Then, a twitch of the ear, followed by a sideways glance." Logic: "He is making sure he isn't being flanked.” Inland Empire: “But he's all alone...”
I also feel like Rhetoric would have a field day with Machete. Like, finally, a worthy opponent.
Empathy would get the feeling that despite his reputation, that there is someone else behind Machete's bug eyes, someone other than Machete, the pale eminence. If you have enough points in a skill, it would try to pipe in saying who they think it is, judging Machete (e.g: Authority: "A man superior to you."; Pain Threshold: "It's just sweet pain all the way to the bone."; Half-Light: "A survivor."; Encyclopedia: "The inside lining of the eye is covered by special light-sensing cells that are collectively called the retina. It converts light into electrical impulses. Behind the eye, your optic nerve carries these impulses to the brain. The macula is a small extra-sensitive area in the retina that gives you central vision.") concluding with Drama: "No one he'd want you to know, sire."
That would trigger a dialogue option for an Empathy white check to try and see who's actually behind Machete's eyes and see beyond his reputation and demeanor. I'd imagine you would get a +2 if you talked to Vasco before. And if you pass the check, the screen would go white and Machete's model and portrait would change to Smollchete and you'd be able talk to him for a moment, the little guy, and learn a little bit more about his backstory, stuff that he hides behind the Machete persona. That's why i painted Smollchete too. I don't think Empathy has this same kind of metaphysical effect like others skill in-game, but i thought it would be cool.
Talking to Vasco for the first time would just straight up heal you 1 morale. No skill check necessary. Here, have some free morale.
Your Encyclopedia would recognize his coat of arms and maybe deduce that Vasco is a diplomat or a politician. Then your Composure would tell you straighten your posture and put up your serious face, Suggestion would tell you to flatter him while adressing him strictly formally, but the two of them would be thrown off-kilter as Vasco starts acting very casual and down-to-earth. Maybe Authority would judge his attitude to be unfitting of someone in such position. Idk. This is all random ramblings that were bouncing in my head that i needed to let out.
Hope this isn't too weird, i just had a lot of time between having the idea to draw this and actually sitting down to draw it, so these ideas were just popping up in my head. I wish i could've just put those in the tags, but it waaaay exceeds the tag limit.

WOW
What a game, holy shit 😭❤️
After all that, I was still so convinced there was going to be a way to save Constantin at the end.... he didn't deserve going through all of that. I truly don't believe that Constantin began the story with malice in his heart, or the goal to become the kind of ruler that he ended up being
Poisoned with the disease he escaped from by the people he was told to trust, a coup against him arranged and carried out, again, by people he thought he could trust, and his corruption stemmed from someone just wanting to help him be healed
And finally, De Sardet, the one last person who was meant to be there for him and help him when all other hope was lost..... was the one to end him 💔
Ugh. What a gorgeous story, I'm so so happy I got the 'best' ending possible 🥺 and I'm going to be replaying that last goodbye scene with Vasco for the next 3-5 business days, it made me so emotional 😭
De Sardet was a wonderfully done protagonist, the way he interacted with friends and enemies alike, almost always keeping a level head, with the goal to do whatever he could to foster good relations and repair damages as they were caused. I LOVED his personal journey, finding out about his own heritage and more about his people
Vasco obviously was a fast favourite companion and Kurt and Siora were also both done equally well. I feel like I enjoyed Kurt's personal missions best, honestly, they felt extremely important. Aphra and Petrus were underutilised, in my opinion, as it was clear that their differing opinions and methods were more at odds with De Sardet than the other companions
I also felt that certain side quests would have been more impactful as main missions, especially if they were also mandatory to explore in more depth. My own need to do everything I possibly can in a game, meant I didn't even think twice about doing all of the side quests, not even considering leaving them behind in gameplay
Otherwise, playing on easy mode made my experience much more enjoyable as I didn't have to worry about dying or consequences as much. While it was a bit of a speed bump to get used to controls and movement, I only initially found them a tad janky compared to larger studio games. The map system was a tiiiiny bit annoying, but nothing I didn't just get over
I chose a magic build to begin with, later utilising melee and firearms a bit more liberally. I definitely dont think I was very efficient in how I played, but the main thing was that I really enjoyed it and had fun. The combat felt really nicely done, and the Nádaig boss fights were a really awesome and impactful spectacle to engage in every now and then when the story called for it
I went into GreedFall with minimal expectations, not knowing a single thing about the story, and came out of it with so much love. I'm so fucking glad I gave this game a chance ❤️❤️❤️

💌 From me to Vasco
Dear Vasco,
There's something I've been wanting to tell you since a long time. I appreciate you as a friend you're really loyal and protective of me, which i am really thankful for. But.
I have romantic feelings for you. I really like you. I want you to be my boyfriend. You were my first friend when i transferred here and you made me feel less lonely. You always bring me a banana milk in the mornings. That always makes me smile. I have tried to let you know that i have romantic feelings for via gestures but you're so kind hearted that you thought they were just friendly ones. (very cute) so i am resorting to this letter.
It's okay if you don't have the same feelings for me. You also don't have to respond to this letter if you don't want to.
And i know that this may be too fast but i think i love you. So yeah.
Love,
your friend with glasses.
[Your walk down the hall is interrupted by many, many Burn Knuckles members jumping in your way. In front of them all was Jace, who looked nervous but was trying to covering it up with confidence. He apologizes to you and hands you a pink envelope, explaining, "This is from Vasco."
You nervously accept the letter, wondering if it was a reply for the love letter you wrote a while ago. In the meanwhile, the men walk away and you slowly open the letter to read...]
To my dear friend lover person I like,
If I could, I would speak to you in person and reply, but since you went through the trouble of writing a letter, I decided to do so as well.
I've carefully read your letter many times, and it's made me reconsider our relationship. To be honest, what you had described made me realize I had been feeling the same, but also like you said, I just didn't know. Also thank you for thinking it's cute :) but I'm sorry for any frustration it may have caused.
You are truly important to me, in a way unlike anyone else, and I see now the word for it is "romance."
Thank you for telling me. I love you, too! And I believe love comes in different speeds for everyone so you don't have to worry. In fact, I've been thinking of marriage so I can truly bring you banana milk for the rest of our lives to see you smile, but my friends say I probably shouldn't marry in highschool...
Either way, if you allow me to be yours, I will be honored to!
-Vasco

hi i ride motorcycle year round and wanted to chime in. for vasco's small around-town trips he'd probably be fine with his ears free, but for longer trips at higher speeds or when its cold out he'd want them protected. probably by tucking them under his chin into the collar of a jacket and then putting a scarf or bandana on. also goggles would be helpful if a full helmet wasn't wanted. since they're in europe and around italy specifically he could have a nice ducati (fast rockety sport bikes) or a cafe racer (much more like a motorized bicycle but they can still have a lot of power) a cafe racer would offer a lot of seat space for machete to be thoroughly uncomfortable in lol
i love your ocs they're great thanks for all the cool art :)

3, 12, and 26 for the three songs ask game!
Hi there! :D
3. three songs you were recently obsessed with
to keep it fresh, I'll mention 3 new songs:
Bombs Away by Shotgun Willy
J CHRIST by Lil Nas X
(nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi by 5MIINUST & Puulup
I wasn't going to say anything specific, all 3 of these are bops.
Then I looked up translated lyrics to the last one, which basically goes like "drugs? what drugs? i don't know anything about drugs, officer" - in Estonian. Which should be mentioned I think.
12. three favourite songs from video games
welp, trip down memory lane time
Hood Gone Love It by Jay Rock featuring Kendrick Lamar; representing Grand Theft Auto 5 / Online.
My favourite day 1 song from the game, and it is no less a banger 7.5 years after I had heard it for the first time.
Black Wave by K.Flay; representing Need for Speed: Payback.
A great song from a sub-par game that will forever have a place in my heart. Whenever it's on, I can't not think of hauling booty through the desert in an offroad Chevy Bel Air superbuild.
Run by Vasco and Patrick West; representing The Crew 2.
If you enjoy long drives, TC2 has you covered. And because long drives often require music (and I was bored), I stumbled into some exquisite country music. Plus I'm pretty sure there was a challenge for that.
26. three favourite non-English songs
once again I'm going to list 3 new songs:
Piraten Style by Julien Baum & Joon Kim.
Truly silly German parody rap that got recommended to me by spotify algorithms once.
Tłoki by Oliver Olsson & Gibbs.
I never got to play the latest NFS installment, but I did listen to its soundtrack. I'd describe it as "thousand flavors of hip hop" and Tłoki is the Polish offering.
Hi-DRIVERS! by NIGHT BREAK, NANAIRO MONSTER, SIN DESTINY and DJUNGARIAN.
About half a y- *checks dates* nope, that was a full year ago - I found out about an anime being made that combined car racing and idols. It sounded exciting and the title track (mentioned here) slapped, but the project is in development hell as of May 2023.
Thank you for the ask! :D

❝That's why I'm asking in the first place. I have no idea.❞ As much as Vasco didn't mind the guessing games, he also isn't in the mood at the moment. He's still stingy from what happened a little while back where he got laid off. How foolish! Regardless, he kept himself calm and from exploding too much.
Despite the bit of height difference between the two and Majima having a bit of ahead start in terms of walking, the former host kept up rather perfectly. He didn't mind having to speed up to continue walking every now and then if he slowed down too much.
❝Do you really think so? I didn't expect you to have that view on me.❞ Then again, whatever the other man is thinking, it's hard to say. Vasco had a little trouble trying to get a good read on this man. While it is frustrating from time to time, he didn't seem to mind it nearly as mind as one would have thought.
❝Pretty boy? Seriously?❞ A sigh slipped past Vasco's lips at the thought. While he could be arguing that this man didn't have to do anything - definitely not buying him a drink - his mind went straight to the nickname. It's not that he isn't called pretty boy before. It's not an insult as one would think. He is pretty attractive. There's no denying that. To hear it from someone like Majima is quite something.

Martian dust storms churn up Earth-like clouds ESA's Mars Express has revealed that Mars churns up surprisingly Earth-like cloud patterns that are reminiscent of those in our planet's tropical regions. Earth and Mars have vastly different atmospheres. The dry, cold atmosphere of Mars is composed almost entirely of carbon dioxide while Earth's is rich in nitrogen and oxygen. Its atmospheric density is less than one fiftieth of Earth's atmosphere—equivalent to the density found at about 35 km above Earth's surface. Despite being wildly different, their cloud patterns have been found to be surprisingly Earth-like, pointing to similar formation processes. A new study dives deeper into two dust storms that occurred near the Martian North Pole in 2019. The storms were monitored during springtime at the North Pole, a time when local storms commonly brew around the receding ice cap. Two cameras on board Mars Express—the Visual Monitoring Camera (VMC) and the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC)—together with the MARCI camera on board NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, imaged the storms from orbit. The sequence of VMC images shows that the storms appear to grow and disappear in repeated cycles over a period of days, exhibiting common features and shapes. Spiral shapes are notably visible in the wider views of the HRSC images. The spirals are between 1,000 and 2,000 km in length, and their origin is the same as that of the extratropical cyclones observed in Earth's mid-latitudes and polar latitudes. The images reveal a particular phenomenon on Mars. They show that the Martian dust storms are made up of regularly spaced smaller cloud cells, arranged like grains or pebbles. The texture is also seen in clouds in Earth's atmosphere. The familiar textures are formed by convection, whereby hot air rises because it is less dense than the cooler air around it. The type of convection observed here is called closed-cell convection, when air rises in the center of small cloud pockets, or cells. The gaps of sky around the cloud cells are the pathways for cooler air to sink below the hot rising air. On Earth, the rising air contains water which condenses to form clouds. The dust clouds imaged by Mars Express show the same process, but on Mars the rising air columns contain dust rather than water. The sun heats dust-laden air causing it to rise and form dusty cells. The cells are surrounded by areas of sinking air which have less dust. This gives rise to the granular pattern also seen in the image of clouds on Earth. By tracking the movement of cells in the sequence of images, the wind speed can be measured. Wind blows over the cloud features at speeds of up to 140 km/h, causing the shape of the cells to elongate in the direction of the wind. Despite the chaotic and dynamic atmospheres of Mars and Earth, nature creates these orderly patterns. "When thinking of a Mars-like atmosphere on Earth, one might easily think of a dry desert or polar region. It is quite unexpected then, that through tracking the chaotic movement of dust storms, that parallels can be drawn with the processes that occur in Earth's moist, hot, and decidedly very un-Mars-like tropical regions," comments Colin Wilson, ESA's Mars Express project scientist. One key insight made possible with the VMC images is the measurement of the altitude of dust clouds. The length of the shadows they cast are measured and combined with knowledge of the sun's position to measure the height of the clouds above the Martian surface. Results revealed that dust can reach approximately 6–11 km above the ground and the cells have typical horizontal sizes of 20–40 km. "Despite the unpredictable behavior of dust storms on Mars and the strong wind gusts that accompany them, we have seen that within their complexity, organized structures such as fronts and cellular convection patterns can emerge," explains Agustín Sánchez-Levaga from the Universidad del País Vasco UPV/EHU (Spain), who leads the VMC science team and is lead author of a paper presenting the new analysis. Such organized cellular convection is not unique to Earth and Mars; observations of the Venusian atmosphere by Venus Express arguably show similar patterns. "Our work on Mars dry convection is a further example of the value of comparative studies of similar phenomena occurring in planetary atmospheres in order to better understand the mechanisms underlying them under different conditions and environments," adds Agustín. As well as learning more about how planetary atmospheres "work," understanding dust storms is relevant for future missions to Mars. In extreme cases, dust storms can block much of the light from the sun from reaching the solar cells of rovers on the surface of the red planet. In 2018, a planetary-scale dust storm not only blocked sunlight reaching the surface, but also covered the solar panels of NASA's Opportunity rover with dust. Both of these factors led to the rover losing electrical power, ending the mission. Monitoring the evolution of dust storms is crucial for helping protect future solar-powered missions—and eventually crewed missions to the planet—against such powerful phenomena. "Cellular patterns and dry convection in textured dust storms at the edge of Mars North Polar Cap," by A. Sánchez-Lavega et al, is published in the November 15, 2022 issue of the journal Icarus. TOP IMAGE....Comparing the cloud patterns in dust storms on Mars with closed convection cells in Earth’s atmosphere. The image on the left depicts a storm at the martian North Pole in May 2019, as seen from the Visual Monitoring Camera (VMC) on Mars Express. The repeated pattern of small cloud cells is caused by convection currents, when dusty air is heated by the Sun and rises to forms a small cell of between 20–40 km in horizontal size. The cells are surrounded by cooler air which descends, forming a boundary which creates the granular pattern. On the right, Meteosat-8 captured closed-cell convection on Earth. Meteosat 8, the first satellite of the Meteosat Second Generation, is a joint Eumetsat and ESA mission. This image was taken on 20 March 2020 over the Azores. The cellular pattern is created in a similar process to the pattern on Mars, with similar sizes of 20–50 km. However, instead of dust, the air columns contain water vapour which is heated and rises to form clouds. Imaging of this storm by the VMC allowed the measurement of the height of the cells. Measurement of the size of shadows cast by the cells, combined with knowledge of the position of the Sun, revealed that the cells are between 6–11 km above the surface of the Red Planet. The Visual Monitoring Camera tracked this storm on 29 May 2019, in martian springtime. It dissipated and re-appeared with different structures over a period of days. The brightly coloured, reflective region of the ice cap can be seen in the centre of the images. The brown swirling storm, moving at a speed of approximately 70 km/h, is on the right of the image. The polar cap consists of water ice, onto which a layer of carbon dioxide ice is deposited in the winter. The water ice persists throughout the seasons, while in springtime the top layers of carbon dioxide ice sublimate and re-enter the atmosphere as a gas. Credit: ESA/GCP/UPV/EHU Bilbao

CHAPTER IV THE RED SEA
In the course of the day of the 29th of January, the island of Ceylon disappeared under the horizon, and the Nautilus, at a speed of twenty miles an hour, slid into the labyrinth of canals which separate the Maldives from the Laccadives. It coasted even the Island of Kiltan, a land originally coraline, discovered by Vasco da Gama in 1499, and one of the nineteen principal islands of the Laccadive Archipelago, situated between 10° and 14° 30′ N. lat., and 69° 50′ 72″ E. long.
We had made 16,220 miles, or 7,500 (French) leagues from our starting-point in the Japanese Seas.
The next day (30th January), when the Nautilus went to the surface of the ocean there was no land in sight. Its course was N.N.E., in the direction of the Sea of Oman, between Arabia and the Indian Peninsula, which serves as an outlet to the Persian Gulf. It was evidently a block without any possible egress. Where was Captain Nemo taking us to? I could not say. This, however, did not satisfy the Canadian, who that day came to me asking where we were going.
“We are going where our Captain’s fancy takes us, Master Ned.”
“His fancy cannot take us far, then,” said the Canadian. “The Persian Gulf has no outlet: and, if we do go in, it will not be long before we are out again.”
“Very well, then, we will come out again, Master Land; and if, after the Persian Gulf, the Nautilus would like to visit the Red Sea, the Straits of Bab-el-mandeb are there to give us entrance.”
“I need not tell you, sir,” said Ned Land, “that the Red Sea is as much closed as the Gulf, as the Isthmus of Suez is not yet cut; and, if it was, a boat as mysterious as ours would not risk itself in a canal cut with sluices. And again, the Red Sea is not the road to take us back to Europe.”
“But I never said we were going back to Europe.”
“What do you suppose, then?”
“I suppose that, after visiting the curious coasts of Arabia and Egypt, the Nautilus will go down the Indian Ocean again, perhaps cross the Channel of Mozambique, perhaps off the Mascarenhas, so as to gain the Cape of Good Hope.”
“And once at the Cape of Good Hope?” asked the Canadian, with peculiar emphasis.
“Well, we shall penetrate into that Atlantic which we do not yet know. Ah! friend Ned, you are getting tired of this journey under the sea; you are surfeited with the incessantly varying spectacle of submarine wonders. For my part, I shall be sorry to see the end of a voyage which it is given to so few men to make.”
For four days, till the 3rd of February, the Nautilus scoured the Sea of Oman, at various speeds and at various depths. It seemed to go at random, as if hesitating as to which road it should follow, but we never passed the Tropic of Cancer.
In quitting this sea we sighted Muscat for an instant, one of the most important towns of the country of Oman. I admired its strange aspect, surrounded by black rocks upon which its white houses and forts stood in relief. I saw the rounded domes of its mosques, the elegant points of its minarets, its fresh and verdant terraces. But it was only a vision! The Nautilus soon sank under the waves of that part of the sea.
We passed along the Arabian coast of Mahrah and Hadramaut, for a distance of six miles, its undulating line of mountains being occasionally relieved by some ancient ruin. The 5th of February we at last entered the Gulf of Aden, a perfect funnel introduced into the neck of Bab-el-mandeb, through which the Indian waters entered the Red Sea.
The 6th of February, the Nautilus floated in sight of Aden, perched upon a promontory which a narrow isthmus joins to the mainland, a kind of inaccessible Gibraltar, the fortifications of which were rebuilt by the English after taking possession in 1839. I caught a glimpse of the octagon minarets of this town, which was at one time the richest commercial magazine on the coast.
I certainly thought that Captain Nemo, arrived at this point, would back out again; but I was mistaken, for he did no such thing, much to my surprise.
The next day, the 7th of February, we entered the Straits of Bab-el-mandeb, the name of which, in the Arab tongue, means The Gate of Tears.
To twenty miles in breadth, it is only thirty-two in length. And for the Nautilus, starting at full speed, the crossing was scarcely the work of an hour. But I saw nothing, not even the Island of Perim, with which the British Government has fortified the position of Aden. There were too many English or French steamers of the line of Suez to Bombay, Calcutta to Melbourne, and from Bourbon to the Mauritius, furrowing this narrow passage, for the Nautilus to venture to show itself. So it remained prudently below. At last about noon, we were in the waters of the Red Sea.
I would not even seek to understand the caprice which had decided Captain Nemo upon entering the gulf. But I quite approved of the Nautilus entering it. Its speed was lessened: sometimes it kept on the surface, sometimes it dived to avoid a vessel, and thus I was able to observe the upper and lower parts of this curious sea.
The 8th of February, from the first dawn of day, Mocha came in sight, now a ruined town, whose walls would fall at a gunshot, yet which shelters here and there some verdant date-trees; once an important city, containing six public markets, and twenty-six mosques, and whose walls, defended by fourteen forts, formed a girdle of two miles in circumference.
The Nautilus then approached the African shore, where the depth of the sea was greater. There, between two waters clear as crystal, through the open panels we were allowed to contemplate the beautiful bushes of brilliant coral and large blocks of rock clothed with a splendid fur of green variety of sites and landscapes along these sandbanks and algæ and fuci. What an indescribable spectacle, and what variety of sites and landscapes along these sandbanks and volcanic islands which bound the Libyan coast! But where these shrubs appeared in all their beauty was on the eastern coast, which the Nautilus soon gained. It was on the coast of Tehama, for there not only did this display of zoophytes flourish beneath the level of the sea, but they also formed picturesque interlacings which unfolded themselves about sixty feet above the surface, more capricious but less highly coloured than those whose freshness was kept up by the vital power of the waters.
What charming hours I passed thus at the window of the saloon! What new specimens of submarine flora and fauna did I admire under the brightness of our electric lantern!
The 9th of February the Nautilus floated in the broadest part of the Red Sea, which is comprised between Souakin, on the west coast, and Komfidah, on the east coast, with a diameter of ninety miles.
That day at noon, after the bearings were taken, Captain Nemo mounted the platform, where I happened to be, and I was determined not to let him go down again without at least pressing him regarding his ulterior projects. As soon as he saw me he approached and graciously offered me a cigar.
“Well, sir, does this Red Sea please you? Have you sufficiently observed the wonders it covers, its fishes, its zoophytes, its parterres of sponges, and its forests of coral? Did you catch a glimpse of the towns on its borders?”
“Yes, Captain Nemo,” I replied; “and the Nautilus is wonderfully fitted for such a study. Ah! it is an intelligent boat!”
“Yes, sir, intelligent and invulnerable. It fears neither the terrible tempests of the Red Sea, nor its currents, nor its sandbanks.”
“Certainly,” said I, “this sea is quoted as one of the worst, and in the time of the ancients, if I am not mistaken, its reputation was detestable.”
“Detestable, M. Aronnax. The Greek and Latin historians do not speak favourably of it, and Strabo says it is very dangerous during the Etesian winds and in the rainy season. The Arabian Edrisi portrays it under the name of the Gulf of Colzoum, and relates that vessels perished there in great numbers on the sandbanks and that no one would risk sailing in the night. It is, he pretends, a sea subject to fearful hurricanes, strewn with inhospitable islands, and ‘which offers nothing good either on its surface or in its depths.’”
“One may see,” I replied, “that these historians never sailed on board the Nautilus.”
“Just so,” replied the Captain, smiling; “and in that respect moderns are not more advanced than the ancients. It required many ages to find out the mechanical power of steam. Who knows if, in another hundred years, we may not see a second Nautilus? Progress is slow, M. Aronnax.”
“It is true,” I answered; “your boat is at least a century before its time, perhaps an era. What a misfortune that the secret of such an invention should die with its inventor!”
Captain Nemo did not reply. After some minutes’ silence he continued:
“You were speaking of the opinions of ancient historians upon the dangerous navigation of the Red Sea.”
“It is true,” said I; “but were not their fears exaggerated?”
“Yes and no, M. Aronnax,” replied Captain Nemo, who seemed to know the Red Sea by heart. “That which is no longer dangerous for a modern vessel, well rigged, strongly built, and master of its own course, thanks to obedient steam, offered all sorts of perils to the ships of the ancients. Picture to yourself those first navigators venturing in ships made of planks sewn with the cords of the palmtree, saturated with the grease of the seadog, and covered with powdered resin! They had not even instruments wherewith to take their bearings, and they went by guess amongst currents of which they scarcely knew anything. Under such conditions shipwrecks were, and must have been, numerous. But in our time, steamers running between Suez and the South Seas have nothing more to fear from the fury of this gulf, in spite of contrary trade-winds. The captain and passengers do not prepare for their departure by offering propitiatory sacrifices; and, on their return, they no longer go ornamented with wreaths and gilt fillets to thank the gods in the neighbouring temple.”
“I agree with you,” said I; “and steam seems to have killed all gratitude in the hearts of sailors. But, Captain, since you seem to have especially studied this sea, can you tell me the origin of its name?”
“There exist several explanations on the subject, M. Aronnax. Would you like to know the opinion of a chronicler of the fourteenth century?”
“Willingly.”
“This fanciful writer pretends that its name was given to it after the passage of the Israelites, when Pharaoh perished in the waves which closed at the voice of Moses.”
“A poet’s explanation, Captain Nemo,” I replied; “but I cannot content myself with that. I ask you for your personal opinion.”
“Here it is, M. Aronnax. According to my idea, we must see in this appellation of the Red Sea a translation of the Hebrew word ‘Edom’; and if the ancients gave it that name, it was on account of the particular colour of its waters.”
“But up to this time I have seen nothing but transparent waves and without any particular colour.”
“Very likely; but as we advance to the bottom of the gulf, you will see this singular appearance. I remember seeing the Bay of Tor entirely red, like a sea of blood.”
“And you attribute this colour to the presence of a microscopic seaweed?”
“Yes.”
“So, Captain Nemo, it is not the first time you have overrun the Red Sea on board the Nautilus?”
“No, sir.”
“As you spoke a while ago of the passage of the Israelites and of the catastrophe to the Egyptians, I will ask whether you have met with the traces under the water of this great historical fact?”
“No, sir; and for a good reason.”
“What is it?”
“It is that the spot where Moses and his people passed is now so blocked up with sand that the camels can barely bathe their legs there. You can well understand that there would not be water enough for my Nautilus.”
“And the spot?” I asked.
“The spot is situated a little above the Isthmus of Suez, in the arm which formerly made a deep estuary, when the Red Sea extended to the Salt Lakes. Now, whether this passage were miraculous or not, the Israelites, nevertheless, crossed there to reach the Promised Land, and Pharaoh’s army perished precisely on that spot; and I think that excavations made in the middle of the sand would bring to light a large number of arms and instruments of Egyptian origin.”
“That is evident,” I replied; “and for the sake of archaeologists let us hope that these excavations will be made sooner or later, when new towns are established on the isthmus, after the construction of the Suez Canal; a canal, however, very useless to a vessel like the Nautilus.”
“Very likely; but useful to the whole world,” said Captain Nemo. “The ancients well understood the utility of a communication between the Red Sea and the Mediterranean for their commercial affairs: but they did not think of digging a canal direct, and took the Nile as an intermediate. Very probably the canal which united the Nile to the Red Sea was begun by Sesostris, if we may believe tradition. One thing is certain, that in the year 615 before Jesus Christ, Necos undertook the works of an alimentary canal to the waters of the Nile across the plain of Egypt, looking towards Arabia. It took four days to go up this canal, and it was so wide that two triremes could go abreast. It was carried on by Darius, the son of Hystaspes, and probably finished by Ptolemy II. Strabo saw it navigated: but its decline from the point of departure, near Bubastes, to the Red Sea was so slight that it was only navigable for a few months in the year. This canal answered all commercial purposes to the age of Antonius, when it was abandoned and blocked up with sand. Restored by order of the Caliph Omar, it was definitely destroyed in 761 or 762 by Caliph Al-Mansor, who wished to prevent the arrival of provisions to Mohammed-ben-Abdallah, who had revolted against him. During the expedition into Egypt, your General Bonaparte discovered traces of the works in the Desert of Suez; and, surprised by the tide, he nearly perished before regaining Hadjaroth, at the very place where Moses had encamped three thousand years before him.”
“Well, Captain, what the ancients dared not undertake, this junction between the two seas, which will shorten the road from Cadiz to India, M. Lesseps has succeeded in doing; and before long he will have changed Africa into an immense island.”
“Yes, M. Aronnax; you have the right to be proud of your countryman. Such a man brings more honour to a nation than great captains. He began, like so many others, with disgust and rebuffs; but he has triumphed, for he has the genius of will. And it is sad to think that a work like that, which ought to have been an international work and which would have sufficed to make a reign illustrious, should have succeeded by the energy of one man. All honour to M. Lesseps!”
“Yes! honour to the great citizen,” I replied, surprised by the manner in which Captain Nemo had just spoken.
“Unfortunately,” he continued, “I cannot take you through the Suez Canal; but you will be able to see the long jetty of Port Said after to-morrow, when we shall be in the Mediterranean.”
“The Mediterranean!” I exclaimed.
“Yes, sir; does that astonish you?”
“What astonishes me is to think that we shall be there the day after to-morrow.”
“Indeed?”
“Yes, Captain, although by this time I ought to have accustomed myself to be surprised at nothing since I have been on board your boat.”
“But the cause of this surprise?”
“Well! it is the fearful speed you will have to put on the Nautilus, if the day after to-morrow she is to be in the Mediterranean, having made the round of Africa, and doubled the Cape of Good Hope!”
“Who told you that she would make the round of Africa and double the Cape of Good Hope, sir?”
“Well, unless the Nautilus sails on dry land, and passes above the isthmus——”
“Or beneath it, M. Aronnax.”
“Beneath it?”
“Certainly,” replied Captain Nemo quietly. “A long time ago Nature made under this tongue of land what man has this day made on its surface.”
“What! such a passage exists?”
“Yes; a subterranean passage, which I have named the Arabian Tunnel. It takes us beneath Suez and opens into the Gulf of Pelusium.”
“But this isthmus is composed of nothing but quick sands?”
“To a certain depth. But at fifty-five yards only there is a solid layer of rock.”
“Did you discover this passage by chance?” I asked more and more surprised.
“Chance and reasoning, sir; and by reasoning even more than by chance. Not only does this passage exist, but I have profited by it several times. Without that I should not have ventured this day into the impassable Red Sea. I noticed that in the Red Sea and in the Mediterranean there existed a certain number of fishes of a kind perfectly identical. Certain of the fact, I asked myself was it possible that there was no communication between the two seas? If there was, the subterranean current must necessarily run from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, from the sole cause of difference of level. I caught a large number of fishes in the neighbourhood of Suez. I passed a copper ring through their tails, and threw them back into the sea. Some months later, on the coast of Syria, I caught some of my fish ornamented with the ring. Thus the communication between the two was proved. I then sought for it with my Nautilus; I discovered it, ventured into it, and before long, sir, you too will have passed through my Arabian tunnel!”
