Controls:

Arrow Keys, A and D or click in left/right (tap for Android version) = move Ana Maria

Space = animate spikes (not available in Android version)

How to Play?

All you have to do is help my wife... I mean... Ana Maria to fall on the correct platforms by moving her to the left or right side. Watch out for spikes, if you get hit by spikes or fall down, it's game over.

unquestionably the drawings i have always wanted to make, represented in my old friend, my personal sketchbook—we’ve been through so much since mid-july 2018, i’m ready to retire her and put her in a safe place 🖤

i’m recovering from anorexia: had it off and on throughout my teen years after my grandpa and my cousin passed within a few months of each other. i was also still very much the new girl, too, coupled with a sense of isolation i still feel to this day (just for some perspective: that was the year i started making my cartoons). because i’m naturally bigger, you wouldn’t think that but we come in all shapes and sizes.

you wouldn’t think of it as an addiction, either—you’re wasting away rather than poisoning your body—but when you’re meticulously obsessing over calorie counts and how round (or not) your tummy looks to the point that’s all you can think about, it could not be more obvious. even now, nearly ten years since the start of my recovery, i still feel the temptation to starve, to be at the mercy of the numbers on the scale and the incessant shame in an equally obsessed society.

for these, i took inspiration from total badass of an artist zdzislaw beksinki and his surrealist horror paintings because i couldn’t think of anything else to better represent living with anorexia and also a temptation to cut: you’re just kind of in your own world and it’s not pleasant because you’re at war with your body and your mind. you reach for help, and you feel like you’re imposing. moreover, you realize you can relapse at any time. and much like his paintings, they were cathartic (and oddly fun?) to make because i can’t believe after the whole rouse of it all, i’m still here.

at its worst, i weighed 139 pounds, which sounds fine, normal even. but for me, it was hell on earth: i was cold and feeling sick all the time, i was gaunt, my hair was falling out, and i was ready to pull the trigger, whether it was by a noose or overdosing (didn’t help matters i was unhappy at school and i wanted out more than anything in the world, but it was like everyone i talked to about it told me to “lighten up and toughen up”).

(i also didn’t realize it was such a big cornerstone of my art, too, from the dramatic, uncanny colors to the flyaway hair to recurring motifs like nooses and body horror. plenty of artists have been called “crazy” or “tormented”, including one of my idols syd barrett, and in the world of psychedelic art, it’s easy to assume that. but like another idol of mine, pj harvey, says, you don’t have to be crazy or tormented to be great: just have a story to tell.)
