I made a turkey breast for dinner. Should've just made the boneless prepped one. This is too big for three people also should've just seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic, and butter. Used too many seasonings and now I think it's going to ruin my plan to make a pot pie with the left overs.
It looks pretty though. But overall is a very, "too busy worrying about if I could. Instead of if I should", situation.

Society of Amateur Chefs Tackles Thanksgiving
Many an amateur chef will be cooking a turkey today, but in 1949 an entire society of them worked to prepare the perfect holiday bird.
Founded in 1947, the Minneapolis Society of Amateur Chefs was a club for those men in the upper tier of society who had a love of food and cooking. Only the third chapter of the national society, the Minneapolis amateur chefs met monthly for gourmet feasts created by members. In the club's first few decades, dinner menus included everything from Moo Goo Gai Pan to moose rib roast prepared by the moose hunter himself.
In the week before Thanksgiving 1949, the society embraced one of each year's greatest cooking challenges -- the Thanksgiving turkey. In these photos from our Digital Collections, society members (including a lawyer, a business owner, a doctor, and a Pillsbury executive) divide up the labor of turkey cooking.
Hennepin County libraries are closed today (November 23, 2023) for Thanksgiving.

my toxic trait is thinking given the right resources (fully equipped kitchen and all the ingredients we never have lying around at home) i could replicate like any amazing restaurant dish i've had despite having little to no cooking experience. i know i couldn't but this is my "man thinks he could land an airplane in an emergency"

Look, chef on Serious Professional competition, I know it's vegan but unless you can perfectly recreate the texture of a panna cotta don't call whatever non-dairy custard you've made a panna cotta to the Michelin star chef judge. You are not doing yourself any favors.

After making french toast that fall apart like my life (pic included), i conclude that a human adult must have at least four pans :
- one for making instant ramen : small with tall walls, like a saucepan
- one for stir frying : preferrably some sort of wok, doesn't have to be humongous. Doesn't matter what culture you grew up in, a wok is very useful for a variety of functions (stir frying vegetables before they go bad, deep frying, reheating food, you name it)
- one for delicate, sticky foods : a teflon for eggs, fish, and yes, french toast. To preserve the teflon coating, avoid using metal utensils on it or simply use your wok.
- one big pot for boiling things : Adam Ragusea once said that you gotta buy the biggest pot you can afford. However, if you live alone and don't usually cook for big crowds, an *measures pot with a ruler* 18 cm or 7-inch diameter pot should do nicely. From boiling potatoes to pasta to steaming vegetables, this pot seeks to accomplish tasks too grand for the simple saucepan to accomplish.
No matter how often you cook or how advanced your cooking skills are, these are the essentials for stove-top cooking. If you use the oven, seek oven-safe versions of these pots. Good luck.
Sincerely,
Moist.
