Amanda Rolins x reader (brief mentions of Amanda x Nick) Warnings: language, alcohol consumption, it's hurt/comfort but mainly fluff, if that makes sense? LOL. This has been sitting in the drafts for a very long time and I think was a tipsy idea while watching old svu ideas that got jotted down and then added to bit by bit. I'm not sure if I'm totally happy with it, but I was determined to finish it and this is what we're left with. Basically Amanda deserves all the proper love and affection. The end.
You’d had a thing for Amanda for a while, it started out as a physical attraction that morphed into friendship, someone you enjoyed spending time with, someone you didn’t mind getting trapped in a car on stakeouts with. You shared interests, had similar coffee tastes, were both dog people, preferred take out to cooking and could spend hours watching trashy reality television. All it took was one night at a bar with a few too many beers and a few of your favourite songs on the dance floor to lead to a hot and heavy make out session that ended tangled in the sheets of Amanda’s bed.
When it happened a second time she felt a little bad, letting you know that while she was being safe, you weren’t the only person she was sleeping with. In return you let out a small laugh, telling her that it was clear as day her and Nick had something going on and you had no concern if she was hooking up with him too. With that conversation out of the way you were free to continue on with your random casual nights together. Some nights you’d end up with Amanda, others you’d go home alone and sometimes you’d find your own fun elsewhere, there were no hard feelings or sense of jealousy between either of you.
You slowly watched as Amanada started to slip under Amaro’s charm spell, ever the girl who wanted to be the fixer, the problem solver, do it on her own big sister. As his parenting relationship with Maria got worse her desire to be the one to help him through it grew, wanting to be there when he needed someone, no matter what the context was. Some nights he wanted to drink, to vent, talk things through with someone who could stay somewhat neutral and not argue with everything he said. Some nights he wanted to just forget and those were the ones he always went to Amanda for. The deeper he sank, the more entangled she became and he pulled her right down with him.
When it came to your relationship with Amanda, you truly never cared, even if she was leaving your living room because he called. The night he showed up at Amanda’s when you were there you were the first one to pour him a drink and toss him a smoke, reminding him how much relationships can suck. You continued to be Amanda’s friend, trying to support her through the entire ordeal while she was giving Nick her all and letting herself derail in the process.
“Thanks for meeting me.” She huffed, sliding into the bar stool beside you and you could tell she was pissed.
“Don’t worry about it. What’s up?” You asked, sliding her a shot that she threw back faster than you’d expected.
“Fucking Nick.” She grumbled, signalling the bartender for another round, “I get that he’s going through it but isn’t he supposed to be arguing with Maria?”
“’Manda…” you cautiously warned, “is he taking this shit out on you now?”
“He’s not doing it on purpose.” She defended, “he’s just so fucking irritable now. Everything’s an argument, he either wants to drink in silence or fuck.”
“I think it might be time for you to step back, let him cope on his own.”
“No, it’s fine. He needs someone to talk to and I know I can get through to him, I just need a little bit longer, really get under his skin.”
“Then maybe try to do it without pushing all his buttons?” You offered and she rolled her eyes, only half offended.
“It’s the easiest way to get him actually talking, I thought maybe a different emotion would come through this time.”
“Just be careful okay. I don’t want you getting too deeply wrapped up in all this and then end up being the one licking her own wounds afterwards.”
“I’m a tough kid,” she shot you a grin, “I can handle it.” Her phone buzzed on the bar top and she let out a sigh, throwing back another shot of whiskey before scooping up the device, “duty calls.”
You watched her pick up the phone as she disappeared out of the bar and let out your own sigh, wondering if you were going to be down a friend by the time all of this sorted itself out.
Two months later and you didn’t have much left to wonder about as Nick was gone, leaving the squad to relocate across the country in LA with his new family. You’d watched Amanda when he made the announcement to the team but she didn’t even flinch, a soft smile on her face knowing that he would be happier out West. His last few weeks it was as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders, the stress evaporating as he finally found where he truly belonged.
Amanda felt lighter too, that sense of having to consistently check in and make sure someone was okay floating away with the summer breeze. She was able to relax, get up early enough to spend her mornings running through the park with Frannie and finally catch up on all the reality tv she’d missed. And this time the evenings on your couch were free from any and all interruptions. She wasn’t sad, she knew that everything happened for a reason and that her situationship with Nick had an end date all along, but there was a part of her that missed her friend, her work partner and that was what you could feel floating off of her.
She hadn’t been mopey about it at all, but there was still a sense of melancholy in the air as the commercial break played. Your arm was strewn across the back of the couch, Amanda tucked into your side, letting out a little sigh as she relaxed deeper into the embrace. You instinctively pressed a soft kiss to the top of her head,
“You wanna talk?”
“No.” She mumbled back, “I’m fine, swear. Just been kinda moody recently, dunno why.”
“You’re allowed.” You replied, your arm squeezing her softly before your finger curled under her chin, tilting her face up to yours, “you want me to help you forget?”
“Yeah?” Her brow raised in your direction, a gleam in her eyes as her lips curved up into a grin, “what’ve you got in mind?”
“Well…” you leant down, pressing your lips to hers, your teeth nipping at her lower lip, smirking at the way her breath caught in her throat, “I was thinking for starters that I could fuck you so good you wouldn’t even remember he existed.”
Amanda laughed softly, catching your lips in another kiss, “I certainly like the sound of that.” It only took a moment before your tongue slipped into her mouth as you caged her into the couch, a hand already creeping under her shirt and the television (among other things) were long forgotten.
And just like that your sexual affair with Amanda was sparked right back up again, your relationship skyrocketing from barely seeing each other to spending practically every night tangled in each others bedsheets. Though there was something different this time, nothing was holding either of you back, there were no other outside players, you spent nearly all of your time together now. Partnered up at work meant your days were spent together, the pure carnal desire for sex meant nights were shared, and what was left was evenings to devour takeout on the couch while the tv played and coffee in the park with Frannie on weekend mornings. Amanda would often catch herself with a dopey smile on her cheeks while she watched just how comfortable you were in her home. How you treated it like your own, you never had to ask questions, you just new exactly where everything was. A warmth would bloom in her chest every time your hand found hers, glancing up to catch the soft smile on your cheeks before you’d make a kissy face in her direction.
Not only was she finally starting to feel whole again, she knew that the reason was you, that you were the one who had been making her whole all along. She wasn’t quite sure what real love felt like, but she was certain it had to feel something like this, you were always there for her, you supported her in whatever dreams she wanted to explore, you helped ground her when she needed to be brought back to earth. You made her inescapably happy and she was noticeably more relaxed and joyful whenever you were around. She couldn’t be totally sure without asking you, but she was pretty confident that you shared similar feelings by the way you’d let out a small laugh and you cheeks would tinge whenever she caught you staring at her.
Amanda wanted you, that was for certain, and she wanted a future with you, to face life together as a team, grow old with you and spend the rest of her life happier than she ever had expected. But she suddenly had a piece of baggage that was a very big deal breaker and that’s why her heart was pounding out of her chest when she finally summoned the courage to knock on your apartment door.
“Hey.” You greeted as you pulled the door open, “didn’t expect to see you tonight, it’s late.” You stepped back to let her into the apartment and Amanda felt frozen on her feet, completely unable to move as she let out a shuddering breath and you noticed the tears in her eyes. “Whoa, what’s going on? Are you okay?”
Amanda shrugged, flailing her hands as she did her best to keep her emotions inside, her lip quivering as it attempted to all spill out.
“C’mere.” Your voice was impeccably soft as you wrapped an arm around her shoulders, guiding her into the apartment and over to the couch. “You wanna drink? I’ve got an open bottle of pinot.”
She shook her head and you dropped down onto the couch beside her, your hand finding hers, linking your fingers as your thumb stroked across her knuckles. She took a minute, taking deep breaths to try and calm herself down and once she was sure she wasn’t about to burst into tears she finally looked up at you.
“I fucked up.” She admitted, a tear escaping to glide over her cheek. You were quick to reach out, wiping it away as you cupped her cheek, your thumb stroking soothingly. The tenderness made her heart swell even more and she let out a shaky sigh, “I’m pretty sure I’m in love with you and instead of having the balls to say it I screw it all up like I screw everything up.”
“Amanda…” you started softly, a warmth beaming from your eyes toward her as you squeezed at her hands, “you didn’t have to say it, and I doubt you’ve screwed anything up, just talk to me.”
“I want to be with you, this is so much more than just sex to me and that alone is scary enough.”
“It doesn’t have to be, because it’s always been more than just sex, we were both too nervous to admit it.”
Amanda sniffled, wiping away another tear, “fuck.”
“What’s going on Amanda? I adore you; I want to be with you too, I see a future with you, a future of us, I even referred to you as my girlfriend earlier this week so I don’t see what the problem is. We practically live together already and—”
“I’m pregnant.”
She had to get it out before you listed another ten reasons that you were perfect for her, that you would be perfect together, she couldn’t bear to hear all of that only to have you walk away in the end. She risked a glance up, her teary eyes meeting yours as your head tilted slightly.
“Oh. Okay,” your voice somehow got even softer, “have you thought about what you want to do?” You asked, your thumb continuing to soothingly brush over her knuckles.
Amanda took a breath, ducking her gaze, “I can’t just get rid of it, no matter how hard I try to think about it, that’s just not me and once it’s born I don’t think I’d be able to give a baby away.”
“Have you been to the doctor yet? My sister’s OB was fantastic, we could set up an appointment next week.” It was Amanda’s turn to look up at you with a quizzical expression on her face, watching as you glanced around your apartment, lower lip tugged into your mouth, “your place is bigger, extra bedroom and all, I’ll talk to my landlord about getting out of my lease.”
“Wait, what?” She asked and you looked back towards her.
“A newborn’s a lot of work, I’d want to be around as much as possible and like I said we practically live together already, why bother renting two places?”
“I’m confused…” she admitted with a small laugh, “I thought you were going to break up with me, not suggest moving in together.”
“Why would I break up with you?”
“You said you didn’t want kids…” She shrugged and it was your turn to let out a little laugh.
“So did you.” You squeezed at her hand, “but surprises happen and this can be a little happy one for us. I wasn’t adamant on not having kids, they just weren’t a big priority for me.”
Amanda chewed on her lip, her hands fidgeting in her lap as she tried to make sense of everything flying through her head at the moment, “but why change your mind for me?”
“I didn’t change my mind per say, life just presented me with an opportunity and I’m choosing to take it, because I want to, and I want to be with you, because I’m in love with you.”
“Really?” Her eyes were wide when she looked up at you and you giggled, the warm smile remaining on your cheeks.
“Of course I do, you doof. C’mere,” you tugged on her hand, effectively pulling her into your lap and she let out a little surprised squeal as her knees settled on either side of your legs. One of your arms wrapped around her, the other cupping her cheek, “you’ve always been my best friend, and I’ve always loved you like that. I’ll admit I was a little scared of falling in love with you another way and losing what we had, but it looks like that was the perfect thing to let myself do because I love what we have now, what we will have in the future.”
“I love you too.” She finally uttered the words and felt a weight lifted off her chest, a small smile breaking onto her cheeks and you leant up, kissing her softly. Amanda melted into you, her hands looping around your shoulders as your lips moved with grace together. You barely pulled away from the kiss, her forehead resting on yours as you kissed the tip of her nose and she let out a happy hum. “You make me so fucking happy, happier than I ever thought I could be, and I never thought I was gonna find something like that.” This time the tears blurring her eyes were ones of joy and they matched the ones forming in your eyes.
“And now you’ve got even more than that,” you smiled, “because we’re having a baby.”
“We’re having a baby.” She replied in a whisper, a smile etched permanently across her feature and she laughed softly as you stole another kiss. “Are you still gonna love me when I look like a beached whale?”
“Of course, I’ll even rub your feet and hand feed you grapes.”
“Promise?” She asked with a grin and you laughed, kissing her once more.
“Cross my heart.”
The warmth Amanda felt blooming through her was like nothing she’d ever felt before and she knew that in that moment she was exactly who she was meant to be, and exactly where she was meant to be. She knew she was safe, cared for, she had someone who had her back and always would, someone who loved her and truly meant it when they said it. She felt at peace, and most importantly, at home.
Because being anywhere with you meant she was home. You were her home, and that was all she needed.

Apoio: COPEL. Unexpected Circumstances Ch 6
Tumblr media
*not my gif* Warnings: Language, brief mention of death, brief mention of smut.
You stirred in your sleep, curling against Sonny tighter, wrapping around his body, humming in satisfaction. You felt his lips press against your head as you slowly opened your eyes, a smile braced your face as you reached up, stroking your fingers through his mussed up hair.
“Mornin’ sweetheart.” He looked down at you, that usual goofy grin on his face, you smiled back up at him, ever so happy to be wrapped in his arms.
“Morning.” You murmured, “How’d you sleep?” He leaned down, kissing your lips gently,
“One helluva lot better with you here,” His nose took the time to snuggle against yours, causing you to quietly giggle, “I’ve missed this Soph…” Sonny started to pepper kisses across your face, causing you to laugh into his neck, trying to push against his tickles as he pulled you tighter against him.
“Sonny!” You managed to exclaim, pushing against him as he rolled you onto your back, that adorable face looking down on you.
“What doll?”  You stared up at him, a goofy smile on your face, god you had missed him so much, you pulled him against you into another kiss, your lips fitting perfectly against each other. Sonny hummed softly against you, his hands tracing the sides of your body, he pulled away from your mouth, trailing his down the side of your neck, biting into your pulse point, sucking at your sensitive skin. You swatted at his chest, pulling his face back to yours, kissing him softly. Carisi pulled up, stroking your face with his hand, thumb smoothly moving across your cheek, eyes full of adoration, “I love you.” He whispered quietly, a smile burst across your face, pulling him back to you for a chaste kiss.
“I love you too.” You murmured against his lips, a smile evident on his. Your lips found each other again, moving more passionately this time. Sonny’s tongue curled its way into your mouth as his hand cupped your core, your hips thrusting against him, begging for more friction. A loud blaring broke you out of the heat of the moment, your phone….fuck…you nipped Sonny’s neck as you pushed him off you, reaching over him to grab the offending device,
“Montgomery.” You paused for a moment, “Which hospital?” You sighed heavily, “Okay, I’ll be there in 20.” You kissed Sonny deeply, puling him against you as you sat up, his lips smiled against yours. As you pulled away you groaned in realization. “Fuck…”
“What?”  Carisi quirked a brow at you,
“I worked yesterday..,.I can’t go in today in the same clothes, you and I both know how nosy Amanda is.” Sonny chuckled at that, shifting off the bed to dig through the back of his closet.
“Here” He tossed you a dark blue dress shirt, dotted with tiny white polka dots “It’s the smallest I’ve got.”
“Bless you.” You stood on your tip toes to kiss his cheek as you rummaged around finding and pulling on the rest of your clothes quickly. You rushed out of the bedroom, tucking the shirt into your dress pants as you grabbed the files you’d left amongst Sonny’s work stuff, shoving them in your bag. Saying a quick thank you to Sonny as he handed you your shield and gun, you kissed him quickly in the doorway, “I’ll see you later.” As you glanced back for another look you weren’t surprised to find him leant against the doorframe, ever so adorable dopey grin on his face.
***
You’d met Olivia at Mercy to try to talk to the vic while Amanda processed the crime scene with Fin, after various stops around Manhattan the squad had all returned back to the precinct to start going over various cases. You and Amanda were sitting at your desks finishing paper work from a few earlier cases, she’d taken in your appearance when you’d first walked into the squad room alongside Olivia. She noticed that your shirt seemed to be a bit too big…and she could have sworn it looked rather familiar, she also noticed the forming hickey on your neck that you had no idea was even there. You’d noticed her giving you a weird look earlier, she wasn’t dumb, she was a detective after all, you started to piece together a lie in your head as you worked. She smirked, figuring she’d ask you about your Sunday night over lunch.
“Hey, you have the Jackson files?” Amanda asked, as she couldn’t find them amongst her things.
“Yeah.” Your head ducked as you dug through your bag, pulling them out to pass to your partner. She muttered a thanks as she leafed through them.
“These are for the Thompson case…I could’ve sworn I dropped these off to Carisi yesterday.” You felt your body tense as you slowly raised your head from your paper work.
“Weird… I—“ You were cut off by none other than Carisi himself as he appeared at the side of your desk, dropping the Jackson case files onto it.
“Found these in my stuff Soph, must’a grabbed the wrong ones.” You were 100% sure that your heart literally stopped beating in that moment. You and Sonny had only called each other by your last names around the rest of the squad, keeping your secret, well, exactly that, a secret. You also knew Amanda was quick to flare up, and you knew that there was some weird history between her and Carisi. Amanda’s brows furrowed, looking between the two of you,
“What’s goin’ on here?” She questioned, you could hear the irritability creeping up in her voice.
“Nothing.” You replied almost too quickly, “I was going over the case with Carisi at his office after work, must’ve grabbed the wrong stuff.”
“Really?!” Amanda’s voice started to alert Olivia in her office, “Cause you said you had a dinner to get to last night.” You heard Carisi huff beside you, “And that hickey is certainly telling a different story!” She definitely didn’t miss the lightning fast glare you shot Sonny, confirming that he was in fact the one leaving marks on your skin.
“Amanda…” You tried to trace together the words, your brain stumbling over itself, “It’s not what you’re thinking…”
“You sure?! Cause I’m thinkin’ maybe all that UC work may have rubbed off on you and you jumped into bed with our A.D.A. the first chance you could take advantage!”
“Rollins!” Finally Sonny found his voice, “It’s not like that!” He made a move to get closer to the blonde, causing you to stand from your chair, grabbing his arm to pull him back.
“Really?! Then what’s it like Carisi?!” The three of you were all on your feet and had gained the attention of the entire squad, Olivia moving out of her office to assess the situation.
“Hey!” Her shout pulled your attention out of the escalation, “Anyone want to explain why my detectives are fighting like children?” Amanda was the first to turn to her, gesturing between you and Sonny.
“Did you know these two were sleeping together?” Benson glanced between you, an eyebrow cocked, you dropped your head, running your hands over your face while Carisi fidgeted awkwardly
“Something you need to disclose?” Her Captain mode fully activated, a relationship between a detective and an A.D.A. was tricky, and had potential to even get cases thrown out.
“No.” Sonny stated simply,
“You sure about that?” Olivia replied, she knew how this worked, and the last thing she wanted was a perp getting away with something because Buchanan was able to use a fling between coworkers to clear a trial. You sighed heavily, gaining eye contact with your Captain.
“We disclosed nine years ago….” That certainly gained the attention of the room, everyone frozen in surprise. You watched as the expression on Benson’s face change as the wheels turned, slowly putting things together from what you’d told her your first day at SVU.
“What?” Amanda couldn’t wrap her brain around what was happening right now, how in the hell did this happen? How had neither of you, both of whom were her partner at one point, and Sonny who she’d known for 7 years had never mentioned anything.
“Sophie’s my wife….” Carisi quietly mentioned, bringing another round of shock through the room, but it was Fin who called across the room to you.
“You’re no 34B.” You turned to Sonny, brow quirked,
“34B?” His hands shot up in defence,
“I thought you were dead!”
“WHAT?!” It came from Amanda again, the anger that had cut through the air in the room dissipated to confusion and surprise from everyone. Before you could start to explain your history, you could feel Olivia’s gaze on you, so you turned to her first,
“The disclosure should’ve been in my jacket, it’s all there.”
“I never got your jacket…I got the transfer form from Campbell that was it.”
“I bet you did get a jacket labelled Carisi, S  about a year ago that you figured was a double of Sonny’s?” Liv let out a huff, realizing her mistake, nodding to you.
“Okay, wait….” Kat began, “Can we please rewind back to the whole you being dead thing?” You let out a exasperated sigh, leaning against the side of your desk, gearing yourself up.
“I was at Staten Island Vice, they’d caught wind about the sex/drug ring with Alejandro Martinez and wanted to send someone in. I’d been doing UC work with them since I was in the academy, so it was an obvious choice. Problem being that they claimed it needed to be completely legit, not a single hole in my story, not a feather of evidence that would link to me being a cop and absolutely no contact with the outside world.” You took a breath, “They had me delete practically all of my social media, had TARU wipe everything from the internet that they could, and then they said they needed to fake my death.” You spared a glance to Carisi, a world of apologies written in your eyes, he gave you a small smile, you’d already had this conversation with him of course, “The shock was when they told me the date….They said the ring was looking for a new recruit and my only level of entry was that upcoming Saturday…”
“Which happened to be our wedding day…” Sonny cut in at that point, filling in the blank you hated having to admit.
“Oh my god.” Liv knew there was history between you, but had never imagined something as insane as this.
“They were at least kind enough to wait until after the ceremony…” You said that part bitterly, Vice claimed that the more witnesses to your ‘death’ the better, you’d been pissed about it ever since, and were honestly more than happy to be transferred out of the unit.
“That’s cold.” Fin commented,
“Yeah…can’t say the reception was very lively…” Sonny reacted, you reached out, squeezing his elbow in reassurance,
“I’m sorry…” It was barely above a whisper, meant only for Dominick, you turned to Amanda, “So…yeah…I am sleeping with the A.D.A.” She let out a light laugh at your comment,
“Hey, I’m…sorry for the way I reacted…that wasn’t cool. Even if it was just a hook up I was outta line.” She apologized softly, you smiled across at her.
“So…we’re good?” Olivia hesitantly asked from her position outside her office, everyone nodded, agreeing that things were okay, “Good. Because our vic’s ready to talk, Rollins, Montgomery, go.” You both nodded, grabbing your coats before you headed out into the streets.
You were happy the air was cleared, and VERY thankful it at least came out after you & Sonny had had a chance to figure things out yourselves. There was still a long road ahead to get back to where you were and you both knew that, but at least this way you weren’t holding any secrets back from your squad. You imagined Amanda was going to grill you for practically every last detail on your drive to Mercy, so you braced yourself.

Yellow Line
Title: Yellow Line
Tags: mental illness, its set in an asylum... i guess thats it pretty much
Summary: So this was a collaboration (kind of lol) with my little sister. She has a bit of a hard time in school and she knows I love writing, so when she got the assignment and asked me to help her, I was more then happy to. So the assignment was to make a short story, no longer then five pages about an island. I advised her to avoid shipwreck or plane crash cuz i figured most students would go directly to that idea, and she said she wanted creepy/scary, so this is what we came up with.
    The brunette sat at the front of the small motor boat that was quickly approaching her destination. It pulled up to the island in front of her, the driver jumping onto the dock to tie the boat. She stood on shaking legs as the boat rocked beneath her with the gentle waves, accepting the hand that was outstretched to her.
    “Doctor Amanda Rolins.” The man pulled her onto the dock beside him and she nodded as he continued, “I'm Doctor Markus Hamlin, head doctor of the asylum here. It’s nice to finally meet New York’s most renowned psychologist.”
    “Thank-you,” she smiled, blushing slightly at the compliment, “I'm excited to take a look at your patients here. Once I complete my research and bring my findings back to my team in New York, we will see what we can do to start helping your patients.”
    “I appreciate that, so far no one has been able to help. But I'm sure a doctor as well known as yourself will be able to work wonders for our patients here.” He turned, gesturing to the building behind them, “Shall we begin with a tour? Afterwards my assistant, Lina, will set you up in your room for the remainder of your stay here.”
    “That sounds great.”
~~~~~~~~~~~
    When they entered the building Amanda was immediately struck by a chilling feeling in her body. The hairs on her arms and neck stood on end at the cool air in the building, and as they continued deeper into the facility the hallways got darker. A light blue hue took over, and she couldn’t help but feel a sense of anxiety come over her as they continued on.
    Turning down a hall to their left and through a set of locked double doors, the chill in the air seemed to get worse when she was met with another long hallway, only this one was lined with large floor to ceiling windows on either side. She stepped forwards cautiously, Markus tight on her heels as she walked past the endless windows. Inside each one was a single patient, a bed, and a small bathroom, the entire space no bigger then a small office.
    Markus searched her face, trying to read her expression as they walked in silence before clarifying, “Many of our patients are considered highly dangerous, not only to the staff, but to themselves. The full windows allow the doctors here, as well as the security staff who walk the halls, to keep an eye on them at all times. Each room is also equip with camera surveillance that’s fed back to the nurse’s station up front. It’s the best way we can help to keep them calm and safe.”
    She nodded, not adding anything else, but she couldn’t help but think to herself that this seemed more like a prison then somewhere for people to get help.
    She slowly wandered a few more steps, coming to a stop at one of the windows. Inside was a boy, huddled in the middle of the wall beside the window. His knees were up to his chest and his hands here buried in his hair. He intrigued her, why she didn’t know, but she turned her body and began walking closer to the window.
    Markus’s hand wrapped tightly around her elbow stopped her, pulling her from her trance. She quickly turned her head to look at him as he whispered in her ear, “Do not pass the yellow line, do not touch the glass.”
    Without another word he let her go and walked past her down the hall. When he was almost at the end she finally gained the courage to look down. At her feet, just by the edge of her toes, was a thick bright yellow line that ran down both sides of the hallway. She didn’t know what this line was for, or what he meant by what he had said. She spared one last quick glance at the boy through the glass, who was still huddled against the wall unmoved, before she quickly turned and decided she did not want to find out.
~~~~~~~~~~~
    “And this will be your room while you stay on the island with us.” Lina, Markus’s assistant, had lead them to a part of the asylum at the very back of the building. Her room was small but good enough for her short stay here. It consisted of a bed, a desk, a small sitting area, kitchen, and bathroom off the back. “If you need anything else while you're here just let me know. My rooms right down the hall there.”
    “This looks great, thanks,” she nodded as she threw her bags on the bed.
    “No problem.” Lina turned to walk out of the room, but before she closed the door turned back to say, “Doctor Markus will be busy for the rest of the day but feel free to start your research any time. The facility is completely open to you.”
    She smiled as Lina left, closing the door behind her. She took a few moments to dig through her bag, taking out a small note pad and pen for the time being. She decided on spending the rest of the day quietly observing the patients from the hallway, and hopefully she could talk to Markus about entering the rooms to give each patient a proper exam the next day. With her tools in hand she left the room.
~~~~~~~~~~~
    A few hours into her walk through the halls, Amanda had made a few small observations on some of the patients and their current states in their rooms. Despite the constant reminder of Markus’s words running through her mind, that the patients were dangerous, from where she stood she hadn’t seen anything to be worried about so far. Most of the patients seemed calm and comfortable in their rooms. Some reading, some sleeping, it didn’t give her a feeling of danger.
    She then found herself in a familiar hallway, in front of a familiar window. The same boy from before sat in the same place, same position as he had been when she stopped here earlier. Back against the wall, knees to his chest, and hands in his hair. She watched him for a few minutes, oddly curious about this one specific patient and his condition, and the entire time she stood watching him he never moved.
    The air seemed to chill even more around her, and she once again found herself walking closer to the window, just wanting a better look at this boy. Markus’s warning from earlier forgotten as the tip of her toe slid across the yellow line. For the first time she since had been watching him she noticed a slight twitch to the boys head, as if his eyes were watching her from the side as she stepped even closer. With one more step both feet crossed the line now and she was nearly flush against the window. In a sudden rush the boy was on his feet, standing directly in front of her on the other side of the window, though she didn’t move away. She found that she couldn’t, but instead was pulled even closer.
    She lifted both hands, slowly and gently laying them on the glass of the window, and the boy did the same. When their hands were in the same position he looked up to meet her eyes and she was in shock. She took in his appearance, his wore a white shirt and loose white pants, slightly dirty and ripped in some places, his hair was also white, but his eyes where what caught her attention. There was no iris or pupil, just a hazy white storm, and when she looked deep into his eyes the fear she should have felt coming into this place hit her hard and fast.
    Before she knew what was happening she was surrounded by a thick grey fog, creeping across her body and covering her completely. A voice cut through the fog, one she instantly remembered, “You… you were supposed to help me.”
    Turning to her left she saw the young girl, sixteen, Karen. Eyes wide, she choked out, “You… you died, you're dead.”
    Karen walked closer, until she was a few feet away from Amanda and whispered again, “You were supposed to help me. Why didn’t you help me?!”
    “I'm sorry!” Amanda shouted, tears in her eyes.
    Karen quickly took the remaining steps between them, and finally Amanda was able to pull away from the window. Eyes closed and waiting for Karen to touch her, nothing happened. Slowly she opened her eyes to find the fog gone and the hallway empty aside from herself.
    She turned back to the window, the boy’s hands no longer on the glass, but his stormy eyes still fixed on her. In a panic she jumped back across the yellow line and without another look back to the boy through the window, she ran full speed down the hall and back to her room.
~~~~~~~~~~~
    Slamming the door behind her she slid down to the ground with her hands over her face. Taking a few deep breaths to calm down, she tried to convince herself that what she saw was not real, it was her imagination and nothing more. Then the chill came back, worse then it had been before and the fog with it.
    Her stomach clenched and her fingers clutched tightly to her hair as she looked up to find Karen staring down at her. Tears streamed down her face now, breathing becoming hard, and her voice completely lost.
    “I needed your help,” Karen was so close now, “I needed you!”
    Before she could get any closer Amanda stood and ran out of the room. She ran as fast as she could through the asylum, down the halls searching for a way out, and she found it in the form of an emergency exit down a small hidden hallway. She ran towards the metal door and slammed her entire body against it, nearly tripping as she ran outside and into the forest surrounding the building. But the fog had followed her, began chasing her through the forest. And every time she ran faster it would move faster too. Until it finally got in front of her and no matter how fast she ran, she could not escape it.
    She ran in every direction, around trees, down hills and through the thick bush, but nothing could get her away from it. Then, she came back.
    Karen was at every turn, every small break in the fog she was there. No matter where she went she couldn’t get away from her and her words, “You left me!”
    “No I didn’t.”
    Another turn and she was there again, “I died because of you!”
    “I tried to help, I'm sorry!”
    Stumbling, Amanda crashed hard to the ground, scraping her knees on rocks and drawing blood through her jeans. Feet came into view and she looked up at Karen, “I am your fault.”
~~~~~~~~~~~
    The brunette sat against the wall, straight jacket clinging to her body and holding her arms tightly in place. Her scrapped knees bandaged and pulled to her chest as she rocked back and forth, two sets of eyes watching her through the floor to ceiling window.
    “You found her where?”
    “In the back forest,” Lina stood beside Markus, clipboard in hand jotting notes.
    He chuckled, hands behind his back as he watched the once sane Doctor Amanda Rolins on the other side of the window, “That didn’t take nearly as long as I thought it would.”
    Lina nodded, closing the note pad and holding it under her arm, “It was a good idea, seeing how someone with not only her amount of intelligence but also a past as like hers would hold up in here, with these kinds of patients.”
    “My best and most successful experiment yet.” She nodded as he turned and gestured her towards the front of the building, “Come, Lina, I think our newest guest Doctor Tyler Scanson is arriving.”
Drabble: Winter Wonderland
Title: Winter Wonderland Author: untapdtreasure Rating: K+ Word Count: 440 words Summary: Her family didn't include anyone that directly related by blood, but they were her family. And that was all that mattered. A/N: This was written for the 'family', 'snowman', and 'sledding' prompts at @thebarsondaily This also includes Rolins, Carisi, and Jesse.
Olivia couldn't have been happier if she tried. The people surrounding her in the snow were the only people on the planet as far as she was concerned. Her family didn't include anyone that directly related by blood, but they were her family. And that was all that mattered.
Rafael wrapped his gloved hand around hers and drew her close to him as he met her eyes, bringing her back to the present. And him. He smiled as she leaned in and pressed her mouth softly to his. He wrinkled his nose as the kiss ended. "Where were you just now?"
She smirked. "Here with my family." She gestured around to him, Noah, Carisi, Amanda, and little Jesse. Her heart swelled with love and pride. She tugged his hand. "Come on, Barba. Let's finish this snowman."
She bent then and scooped a handful of snow into her gloved hand and packed it into a snowball before letting it fly in the direction of her detective. It hit Carisi square in the back, causing him to turn with a bundled Jesse in his arms.
"Hey, watch it, Liue. I got the kid." He held the toddler up as a shield.
"That's nice, Sonny!" Amanda giggled as she let a snowball of her own fly in his direction. It whacked him right on the side of his carefully hatted head. She couldn't stop the full-on laughter as she reached to pack another snowball just as Sonny sat the girl in the snow and proceeded to do the same. He had two targets in mind, but Amanda would always be his primary target. "No fair, Carisi!"
Sonny snorted, foregoing the snowball and letting the snow fall back to the ground as he pounced on Amanda, knocking her to the ground and tickling her. "Come on, Jesse. Help me get Mommy!"
The little girl toddled over as best as she could and climbed on top of her two favorite people as she giggled. "Silly, Mommy!"
Olivia looked up from the snowman that she and Rafael had just put the second ball into place. She beamed with pride, knowing it wasn't ideal for the two of them to be so close, but who was she to break that up? She glanced at Rafael and sighed happily. "This is all I've ever wanted."
Noah interrupted then. "Come on, Mom! Rafa! Let's go sledding!"
Rafael brushed the snow from his blue jeans and stood up. "Alright, mi amigo! Sledding it is." He reached to help Olivia up from the snow and pulled her close. He managed to place his mouth close to her ear. "Me, too, Olivia. Me, too."
  Raymond Howard Caldwell, age 58
Raymond Howard Caldwell, age 58, of North Wilkesboro, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, March 8, 2019. He was surrounded by his family and love ones as he peacefully met Jesus and entered his eternal home. Raymond was born August 23, 1960 in Oxford, Pennsylvania to Oscar Howard and Esta Stanley Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dallas Gene Caldwell and James David Caldwell.
He served in the United States Army National Guard, where of many values he developed a superb work ethic. Raymond was known to work hard for his family and love ones during his lifetime. He was selfless. Many times he would sacrifice his needs and wants to make sure his kids and family were taken care of first. His jobs ranged from installing siding and windows to selling auto parts and working at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Raymond was an avid softball player, with a wall full of trophies. As wells as a coach for local county little league for many years. He enjoyed working on and restoring old cars. Anyone who knew Raymond was well aware of his "itch" to find an old 70's car and bring it back to its luster.
His love of people was evident by just meeting Raymond. "Everyone Loves Raymond" wasn't a joke, because if you met Raymond he infected you with his laughter, jokes and his love of life. He never met a stranger and would talk to you about his love for the Lord Jesus, as well as, listening to your stresses to help lift your burdens. Raymond was always ready with an uplifting word. He always had a joke handy, one of which was to send a new siding installer to the truck for the "siding stretcher"(think about it , "can you stretch siding?) He was blessed to work many years with two of his sons and his longtime friend, Randy Little, in the siding business. He had an infectious smile, since of humor, love of life and love for his Lord Jesus which he was entrusted his family with to carry forward.
Raymond's love of animals brought many rescues to his home, two of which were a small scotty dog named "Razor" that went everywhere Raymond went tucked in an inner jacket pocket or under a shirt to go "bye-bye" for a truck ride. Razor passed years ago and his affections were taken over by a tail-less kitten that he nursed to health. McKenna became his loyal companion and would not leave his side. She even played fetch with him as he would throw a pencil and she would run get it, flip it in her mouth and bring it back to him. She calmed him in later months of his illness and she was at his side as Raymond passed.
Surviving are his wife, Melissa McLeese-Caldwell of the home; sons, Jeffrey Allen Caldwell and wife Kristy of Wilkesboro, Phillip Nathan McLeese and wife Sarah of Jefferson, Jeremy Scott Osborne and wife Samantha of Boomer; daughter, Erica McLeese Billings and husband Jonathan of North Wilkesboro; brother, , John Richard Cardwell of North Wilkesboro  his "grands", Joshua Scott Osborne, Bryson Lee Osborne, Eliana Grace Caldwell, Adilyn Bell Caldwell, John Thomas "J.T." Billings and "J.T.'s baby sister Audrey Kate Billings, due in June; brothers, Donald Franklin Walter and wife Nancy of North Wilkesboro; sisters, Della Kathleen Osborne and husband David, Wilkesboro, Debra Ann Jones of Mtn. View, Esta Marie Caldwell of Hiddenite; and one of his best pals Jerry Call, who was like a father to him.
Perry Mason Season 2 Confirmed by HBO
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Perry Mason will have another season on its docket for HBO, which has renewed the reboot series for a second season.
Indeed, the series, which stars The Americans‘ Matthew Rhys as author Erle Stanley Gardner’s classic titular crime-solving lawyer, has managed to procure a Season 2 renewal slightly past the midway point of Season 1, which most recently aired its July 19 episode, the fifth of eight for the inaugural outing. The official announcement was made by Francesca Orsi, Executive Vice President, HBO Programming.
“It has been an exciting journey to work with the immensely talented team behind Perry Mason,” said Orsi. “Viewers have relished being transported back in time to 1930’s Los Angeles each week, and we are thrilled to welcome the show back for a second season.”
HBO cites that Perry Mason’s June 21 debut episode was seen by a total of 8 million viewers, making it the premium cable channel’s most-watched series premiere in nearly two years. Said viewership numbers are likely substantially boosted by un-cited streaming and DVR metrics, with Nielsen’s reported live viewership for the episode being slightly under a million viewers. Yet, the series has maintained a steady viewership in the latter category.
The renewal might also be qualitatively based, since the show—which currently sits on a 77% average score on RottenTomatoes—has received plenty of critical praise (including in our own initial review,) for its stylish, Great Depression-era approach to a classic franchise, which, having been famously exemplified by decades’ worth of Raymond Burr’s television moral stalwart portrayal, sees Rhys utilizing an anti-hero approach to the character, appropriately stoic enough to investigate the grisly crimes of a Los Angeles underbelly that seedier than any previous iteration.
Additionally, the strength of HBO’s Perry Mason is also attributed to the titular character’s chemistry with a supporting cast consisting of partner Pete Strickland (Shea Whigham), mentor E.B. Jonathan (John Lithgow) and district attorney Maynard Barnes (Stephen Root), which effectively conveys Perry’s various facets and inherent occupational conflicts between benevolence and the kind of expedient apathy necessary to survive in the show’s corrupted concrete jungle. Plus, the series is boosted by the presence of shady eccentric evangelical leader Sister Alice (Tatiana Maslany), whose tithe is teeming due to her magnetic influence on the radio, exemplifying the façade behind which the seediness of the city hides.
The first season of Perry Mason operates under creators/writers/showrunners Ron Fitzgerald & Rolin Jones (Friday Night Lights, Weeds). The duo are also among the show’s gaggle of executive producers, which also consists of Timothy Van Patten (who also directs), Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, Amanda Burrell, Ron Fitzgerald and Joe Horacek. They are joined by co-executive producer Aida Rodgers and star Matthew Rhys, who is credited as a producer. Pertinently, Robert Downey Jr.’s EP credit here stems back to his involvement (as would-be star,) of the project’s early incarnation as a project from True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto. However, with regard to Season 2, HBO has neither confirmed its retention of this creative team or revealed any personnel changes.
There’s no release or production window to cite for Perry Mason Season 2 as of yet, but we will certainly keep on top of the news once it arrives.
Super deal in the Sale Section - on laceweight??
Yep, you read that right. I think I can count on one hand the number of times we've had a lace weight yarn in the shop, but this one is definitely worth it! In fact, we received something very similar five years ago from Fleece Artist, again for the Sale Section, and it was a huge success. So check out the Sale Section today for 30% off of Fleece Artist's Saldanha!
Here are the pattern suggestions offered by Rachael and Heather last time. And they are just as relevant as they were several years ago.
Rocio , Joji Locatelli
Simplicity Cardigan, Mary Annarella
Geodesic Cardigan, Connie Chang Chinchio
Laar, Gudrun Johnston
Making Waves Cardigan, Mary Annarella
Those first five are suggestions from Rachael.  Can you tell she's a sweater knitter?  These next ideas are from Heather, who knits and crochets everything.  Now, I know these are a lot of links to look through, but I recommend clicking on each one.  I really do.  They are all such gorgrous projects, and for $17.50 or $35 you could proudly wear one or many of these, or gift the item to someone special.
Citron, Hilary Smith Callis
Rock Island, Jared Flood
Featherweight Cardigan, Hannah Fettig
Good Day Sunshine, Amanda Bjoerge
Evenstar Shawl, Susan Pandorf
Gradient, Shibui Knits
Meadowlark, Amy Swenson
Insouciant, Julie Hoover
Plain Jhaynes, Anne Hanson
Etude in Stripes, Diana Rozenshteyn
Swan Maiden Mitts, Holly Terrell
Summer Affair, Carol Feller
Hand Springs Fingerless Mitts, Micol Day
Sand Tracks Cardigan, Jenise Reid
Sara, Marita Rolin
Zickzack Tunic, Melissa Wehrle
I don't anticipate being able to get more of this yarn in the near future, heck it was five years ago that I could get it at this discounted price before. So please stock up and make sure you are getting enough in the color you want for your project.
