I threw this in Comet’s ask box for comfort ghoul thoughts a little while ago but it is pretty much my Zeph characterization. I guess I rambled about Ifrit a lot more.
560 words no big CWs just Zeph in pain and Ifrit and Omega hunting him down and forcing him to accept help.
His joints very angry, and very swollen. His thumb is practically locked in place, as though the cartilage cushioning his bones has dissolved and his fingers are fused in the 36251 progression position.
He doesn’t play nearly as much as he used to. Only Sundays, forgoing the weekday morning and evening mass. He isn’t that pious. But the weak heat being pumped into that old building seems to be desperate to escape the cracks in the vaulted ceiling as soon as it’s released.
Ever the stoic ghoul, he never complains. He just retreats to his quarters and soaks his aching hands in hot water, massages salves made by Ivy into his skin.
He thinks no one notices. But his pack would notice a single hair on his head out of place, and they certainly notice the way his spine favors leaning to the left when he plays, and the way his hand shakes when he grips his fork at dinner.
This particular Sunday was the coldest yet. He could be seen shivering in between psalms. And most shocking, his timing was off. Maybe not to the pedestrian ear of the siblings, but certainly to the trained ones of Ifrit and Omega.
As soon as his part in the service was complete he snuck away through the concealed door normally reserved for Sister and Papa.
He would’ve ran to his room, if he was capable of more than anything but a lopsided hobble.
He told himself he wasn’t going to break but as soon as he closed the door, ever so softly as if he didn’t even want to alert the mice to his presence, he slumped against it and the dam broke.
They were right. He just needed to stop. Or at least he would, if he continued to politely balk at the help offered.
Before his body could touch the ground, he found himself being lifted back up by two sets of strong arms. Arms belonging to Ifrit and Omega.
“Oh, I’m fine - “ the countenance of bravery was essentially transparent and he was hushed with a single finger to his lips.
“Not now, we can talk later. Let us take care of you.”
He wasn’t sure if it was defeat or surrender, but he just let them.
Let Ifrit force warmth into his body, let Omega pull the pain away, offering soft grunts of concern at the sheer amount of it. Omega himself would need to be cleansed after this.
As they continued their ministrations, he felt some mobility return to his hands, he was able to straighten his spine where he lay in the warm cove of Ifrit’s chest.
He gave his fingers an exploratory wiggle, and if he were sobbing from pain before, now he was sobbing from relief. He forgot what the absence of pain felt like, had become the default.
“Thank you,” two small words that meant something big when it came to Zephyr, at least when it came to this. This acknowledgment that he needed their help. He needed them.
“Think nothing of it, until next time, when you need not wait until we all have to watch you suffer, and force ourselves on you.” Omega’s lecture sounded severe, but he lighted the mood when he gave Zeph a peck on the cheek.
For good measure, Ifrit added, “Yeah, you stubborn old goat.”

Late Night IDW Team Dark Ramblings
You know, I've been thinking about how Team Dark could be better portrayed/utilized in IDW and I've come to realize that a big issue with their portrayal/usage is that they don't really have any antagonists of their own.
Like they're supposedly not super buddy buddy with Sonic and co but the only times they show up are to help them with whatever Eggman thing is going on at the moment (or that one bit with Clutch, which factors into my solution). As a result they just kinda feel like Sonic's butt buddies or in the case of Shadow, that one annoying guy who pops in to tell you you're bad at your job.
I know it's partially a result of not having a Universe equivalent where they can fuck off and do their own thing, but at the same time, as of now there's nobody for Team Dark to really bounce off of antagonist wise, and specifically for Shadow, there's nobody for him to really go all out on and let him actually be cool against.
And I was thinking about how to fix this for a while, until it hit me that the solution, or at least the start of it, was right in front of my face: Rough, Tumble, and Clutch should be antagonists not only for Team Chaotix, but Team Dark as well.
Those three provide the sort of shadier, "darker" antagonists that fit characters like Rouge and Shadow specifically (the former is evidenced by her and Clutch's delightful interactions in Chao Races). Now you may be asking "But Nutty, those three are interesting, but they can't take Shadow in a fight, no way no HOW, and having Shadow beat them up just feels like a consolation prize for him" and to that I'd say that yeah, you're correct about that, which leads into the second part of my proposal
Use Clutch and Rough/Tumble as a launching pad. I'm showing my biases towards certain kinds of characters here, but I think it'd be cool to have those characters be a jumping off point to have more outright criminals/org crime villains. Villains that are meant to be a bit seedier, a bit more "underground" and whom Shadow's pragmatic attitudes and raw power, as well as Rouge's finesse, can be properly applied against. It could also provide an opportunity for Team Chaotix and Team Dark interactions, which as far as I can remember, we haven't really had outside of like, Heroes (and that one Archie issue early in Ian's run where the Chaotix interrogated her but that barely counts).
Now you may also be thinking: "Well wouldn't that just bloat up the cast?", and to that I say the wonder of these kinds of villains is that they're inherently disposable. It'd be quite easy to say, throw out some criminal of the week for them to deal with and when they're dealt with, they're gone if you want em to be gone. Now granted, in an ideal world this would be slotted into a Universe style book where the more episodic stuff would fit (and frankly it's the only place I thinnk it could reasonably fit since having arcs without Sonic in them is pretty much verboten), but it's still interesting to think about nevertheless
Also you could totally pull from Jojo Part 5 and make a funky hitman squad with crazy powers and a close bond and have them be reoccuring villains if you really wanted.
But yeah these are just some thoughts I wanted to get out there. Lemme know what you think

I have been meaning to do a crossover with the one and only @kathaynesart for such a long time! And the @tmntaucompetition has created the perfect excuse for this :)
I think Sprout and Omega would have a surprising amount in common, they have a lot they can talk about with one another!
Apologies for the cliffhanger- haha- whoops-

team dark week #3: power/control
shadow and rouge sparring session! in normal hand to hand combat (no skates, no flying, no chaos control, no gadgets), i think rouge could hand shadow's ass to him bc she's had more formal training lol

Okay here’s something I noticed about Crosshair and Omega’s relationship, and why I think it was so easy for Crosshair to grow attached to her.
Basically- he says that loyalty is something that means a lot to him, and Omega is the ONE person who never EVER gave up on him.
All the way back in the very first episode even- they’re sitting in a containment cell and Omega says to him: “I know what you’re going to do, but please don’t.” His response is simply, “what do you know?” To which she says, “I know it’s not your fault.” The others were quick to wonder why he would turn on them, Omega knew he didn’t have a choice.
During Kamino Lost- after Crosshair doesn’t take their offer, Omega’s the only one who turns back to him. “You’re still their brother, Crosshair. You’re my brother too.”
And on Tantiss- he would dismiss her, tell her not to bother talking to him, but she doesn’t stop. She refuses to escape without him, no matter what he tells her to do or says to dissuade her, she won’t leave him behind.
The rest of the batch gave him a chance- they wanted him back- but they left him behind, even if it was Crosshair’s choice to stay. Omega wouldn’t give up on him, no matter what, even at the risk of her own safety and only chance to escape.
She never gave up on him. Even when he felt like he wasn’t worth it.
