I've noticed that Clear gets beat up a lot in his route. Aside from the Clearao slapstick comedy and the android/human love story + angst, the rest of it was Toue indirectly abusing Clear; he allowed his associates to beat up Clear and to pour sulfuric acid on his face and programed the alphas to beat up Clear multiple times and each time it's just uncomfortably long? And he's incapable of fighting back every time unless Aoba is in immediate danger. And it's only when he destroys his key lock, which directly leads to his death, that he's able to defend himself. I love Clear's route, but I have to always skip those parts because it just gives me the ick. Speaking of things that give me the ick, I don't think anyone has talked about this throughout my time being in the dmmd fandom. In his bad end, Clear is enforcing the trauma Toue gave him onto Aoba as a means to make them more alike.

When you put into perspective the way Clear is talking about how Toue makes him feel and how he can't fight back against him, you start to realize that Clear is basically treating Aoba like how Toue impliedly treats him and his brothers. You can tell because the way Aoba feels about Clear's treatment of him is exactly how Clear feels about Toue.

Clear wants to make Aoba like him, like how he sees himself, like how Toue's abuse has made him perceive himself. He takes Aoba's sight to remove his window to the outside world and to deny him of any unnecessary knowledge because all Aoba needs to know is Clear. He removes Aoba's limbs to take away his sense of freedom, his free will, and to make it impossible for him to escape. He removes Aoba's vocal cords because, to Clear, he doesn't need something that allows him to make any choices and he's quite literally silencing him. Since being reprogrammed, for two months all Clear knew was Toue and the inner walls of Oval Tower before he finally granted him permission to see Aoba. Clear, being a machine created by Toue, has no freedom, no free will, and cannot escape considering he's physically incapable of defying Toue. Clear was never allowed a choice, given a say in anything, nor allowed to voice what he wanted, unless Toue approved of it first. Clear is taking Toue's place whilst Aoba has taken Clear's place.

Clear wants to make Aoba share the same pain he's endured, and more than anything he wants Aoba to be a "living doll" like he is. He wants to turn Aoba into a mirrored image of his trauma so that he doesn't feel completely alone.

Even Clear begging Aoba to say his name and wanting to hear his voice in the r-word scene mirrors Toue being so obsessed with Clear denying him as his master and wanting to know why. Clear knew that if he applied enough force/pain onto Aoba that he'd eventually give him what he wanted in that scene. That always stood out to me because Clear is an android and androids are learning ais given human-looking models. Clear's grandpa and Aoba taught him how to be human and what it means to have emotions, to be alive. Toue reprogramming him, taking all of that away from him, what does he have left to learn anything from other than Toue's abuse? How else would he know that denying Aoba the hope of ever escaping, the freedom of choice, and the free will to fight back would eventually make him give up and submit to him after being reunited with him after two whole months of being separated? Who else would teach him that, if not his master, Toue?

I know this isn't my usual dmmd rambling post, but I can't only talk about the positives of dmmd without bringing up the bad ends sometimes. Because they're unfortunately just as beautifully written as the good ends. Taking a character like Clear, who's entire character arc was about claiming free will, the freedom of choice, and what it means to live only to witness all of that taken away from him in the form of watching him victimize his lover the same way he was victimized really portrays abusive power dynamics, Stockholm syndrome, unhealthy coping mechanisms, and trauma responses so perfectly.

Somebody loves you, you got a friend (part 3)

Part 1, Part 2.

Ready for some actual plot?! This is also where I’m the most vague and not at all confident in my writing but here we go anyway enjoy! ~

Life goes on, he and Eddie become thick as thieves. All of their classmates are completely thrown by it, Nancy most of all. She tried talking to him at one point, again, and he turned right around.

Then, he’s hit with his heat.

Honestly, it’s his own fault for even forgetting it.

It’s also his fault for not telling Eddie.

Because it hits on a random school day and normally, the two of them hang out at school and after. So, when he wakes up feeling gross and empty, he doesn’t even have time to call ahead. On top of that, his dad called his mom away.

As he gets out of the shower, feeling more alive, there’s a loud knocking on his front door. Pulling on clothes is a chore and this is the one thing he hates about being an omega.

Probably pulling open the door without looking to see who it is first, is a mistake. Clearly. Because before his mind registers it, he’s pulling the person inside and pushing them up against the wall.

Then he’s hit with a scent combination of smoke, rain and freshly cut grass. One of his absolute favorite scents out there. He blinks and he’s met with Eddie looking at him, then arousal is filling his scent. Steve’s heat-brain doesn’t even think, just pulls the alpha to him and crashes their lips together.

It’s not the last time either.

The heat-brain doesn’t last long, thankfully, and they can talk. Even if they’re both entirely naked and have already shoved their tongues into each other’s mouths.

“Sorry” Steve whispers, his head resting on top of Eddie’s chest, “I didn’t mean to jump you.”

Eddie just laughs, pulling him closer to him, “I’ll be honest, didn’t expect this when i decided to come here. Very happy about it, though”

The omega doesn’t say anything at first, moves his sore body up and then straddles the alpha, looking down at him with a frown. “Is it because you get a few days of sex or because you like me?”

Eddie’s hands fly to his hips and holds him steady as the alpha moves slightly to sit up, then moves one of his hands to Steve’s face. A soft smile and what Steve hopes, awe and adoration in his eyes, “Stevie, because I like you. A lot, I’ll be honest the sex is just a bonus”

——— Two Months Later ———

Something feels off, Steve isn’t sure what exactly it is. But he knows, something is off and it’s pissing him off.

First, he’s waking up feeling nauseous all the damn time. He can’t stand certain smells, his mom’s perfume for example, one of his favorite scents and lately he can’t even stand it to be near it. Thankfully his other favorite scent, Eddie’s scent, is fine and one of the only things to actually settle and soothe him.

Second, he feels like absolute shit all the damn time. And can’t figure out which can hurt more, his chest, stomach or his legs.

The only thing he’s feeling great about is the fact that he and Eddie are a couple now and it’s truly the best feeling in the world. He didn’t think an alpha could be this good and actually want him.

He’s currently on his knees in front of his toilet, dry heaving whatever is left in his system. Feeling like absolute trash.

“Steve, sweetie, what is going on? Are you ok?” He hears his mom through the door along with her knocking, “Steve?”

He groans, pushing himself off the ground and walks over to open the door, only to rush back to the toilet to throw up again. Hearing his mom walk over and then bind down, she’s wearing her perfume currently but the smell coming from the toilet is enough for him to not shove his hand against his nose.

“I feel like shit, mom”

She only lets out a hum, smoothing his hair away from his face and he’s hit with her scent of lavender and eucalyptus. Sighing, he chases the warmth of his mom’s hand and whines when it’s pulled away. Opening his eyes, he sees his mom staring at him with concern and before he knows it, she’s standing up and turning around.

“I’ll be right back, sweetie”

Then he’s alone again, but not for long. His eyes pop open when he’s hit with something on the back of his head. Glaring at his mom, he blindly grabs whatever it is and pulls it forwards to find….

A pregnancy test.

“No, oh no.” He mumbles, looking at the stick, “mom, no. I-“

She shakes her head and doesn’t look pissed off, but he can see the tiny bit of disappointment before she’s looking back at him like she always does, with nothing but adoration and love. “Steve, sweetie, I know you and Eddie spent your heat together last month. There’s a chance you might be, until we can get a doctors appointment, this is the only way”

His eyes sting as he stares at the offending stick and then back at his mom. “But, but I’m only-“

She nods and bends down next to him a sad smile on her lips, “I know, sweetie. It’s ok, really, it is. I’ll still love you and will be right here with you the entire time.”

“What about Eddie? He’s only a year older- we’re both-“

She shakes her head, “Steve, sweetie, don’t worry about that right now. We don’t even know if you are yet. It’s still a what if until you take that test and we visit a Doctor.”

Steve is nervous, anxious and scared.

His own scent of lemon and honey is overwhelming even to his own nose. His mom is sitting next to him and holding his hand tightly in hers.

They’ve been in this stiff waiting room for fifteen minutes now and the only other person in here smells like burnt wood and they’re clearly here for a regular check up, the near silence is getting to his head.

“Harrington?”

They both shoot up and follow the nurse to an empty room, the equipment already next to the uncomfortable bed. His nervousness is back in full force, as he listens to the nurse tell him to lay back.

“Ok, Steve, I’m going to put this gel over your abdomen. Will you please move your shirt up? It’s a little cold, but only for a second”

The coolness from the gel, is needed to him. It shocks him back from the anxious and nervous thoughts running in his head, not that any of what’s going on it in makes sense.

It’s mostly silent in the room, the only sounds is beeping from the equipment and their breathing. Then as the nurse rolls the wand over his abdomen, there’s another sound and it’s beating.

His mom lets out a sharp breath and his eyes are stinging. Then he forces his head to look at the machine, and clear as day on the screen is a little blob.

It’s so tiny, you can’t even tell what actually it is he’s looking at. But the nurse moves the camera wand slightly and it’s there and the sound doesn’t change. His mom squeezes his hand and he can’t pull his eyes away from the screen. He thinks the nurse is talking, but he can’t hear them, can’t even hear his mom respond.

He blinks and then blinks again, suddenly the sound is gone and it’s just his mom with him.

“Sweetie-“

“I’m sorry” he manages to choke out and he can feel the tears roll down his face, “I- I’m sorry mama”

“Oh Stevie, no.” She whispers and pulls him tight against her, “Sweetheart, baby, you do not need to be sorry. You and Eddie just weren’t careful, and it’s okay. I still love you and will always support you, ok? Whatever you decide”

He doesn’t answer and just cries into her chest. He sobs and tries to listen to his mom whisper in his ear, telling him how much she loves him and everything he always hears when he’s upset.

Expect, he doesn’t actually hear her. Not really. The machine is off, the thing is no longer against him. But he can still hear the beating, the heartbeat.

The baby’s heartbeat.

His baby.

Eddie’s baby.

Thinking about how much I'd enjoy it if PB did a soulmates book. And I mean just absolutely leaning into the soulmate tropes (timers, name on body, first words, grayscale vision, any of it).

It would probably be single-LI, and if they did it well, I wouldn't mind, but a cool concept would be if it were multi-LI but the thing is that theirs and MC's soulmate indicators aren't manifesting yet (maybe they appear at a set age, or only after soulmates fall in love, etc.) and then whichever LI you had the most soulmate interactions with is coded as your endgame LI and turns out to be MC's soulmate.

Idk, I was just thinking about which literary tropes PB's done and soulmate AUs are tied for first place fanfic trope of all time for me, so I am beyond curious as to how it would look in a Choices book.

Additionally, Azula and Ty Lee would fit for Mai beta because they love her, while Mai beta would also fit because the three of them love each other deeply, in case the three of them are girlfriends.

But if they're just friends, Mai just wouldn't care. But she understands those things and is part of the pack, regardless of whether she's a beta.

I do think it’s actually pretty interesting to think about how OFMD would read differently if Ed were a woman. But I don’t think Izzy is the one who would come out looking worse—if anything, his overprotectiveness and concerns about Ed looking weak on a ship full of pirates might come off as MORE justified. And with Blackbeard’s legacy then being something more unique, Izzy’s fear of Ed giving that up to play housewife might at least be more understandable.

But *Stede* would look like a total asshole. Abandoning his wife and kids because he’s gay and he never wanted that kind of life is sympathetic. Just going off to cheat with a newer, more exciting woman absolutely is NOT. And Stede’s pattern of ignoring his partners’ preferences and doing what he thinks is best would come off as misogyny instead of general obliviousness.

I find it odd how in all the other routes, Toue lured Aoba and his love interest there to get to Aoba, but in Clear's route, Toue was more focused on Clear than anything else.

Like, he questioned multiple times why Clear rejected him as his master, despite both he and Aoba sharing the same power of Scrap. He said “you went against your own” and included himself in that phrasing but like weren't you the one who said you threw him out because he was a defected model?? Not to mention, you told Clear that you view him as your “child” only to then follow up that statement with “but there are countless replacements for you” but if that's the case then why didn't you just replace Clear with a different alpha model in his bad end?

Why did you keep him specifically if you could just replace him? Do they not all look the same? What makes Clear so special to Toue? Why does Toue want to keep him around? And why did Clear slip up and accidentally call Toue his master in his bad end route only to then autocorrect himself immediately after??

It was implied that before the alphas were made in Clear's image, that it was just Clear, Toue, and the other researchers and Oval Tower workers, Clear's grandpa included. Why did Toue create the alphas in Clear's image if Clear was just a defected android, as good as garbage and deemed useless to Toue and his work? We all know that Toue views Sei and Aoba as his sons in a fucked up abusive sense, that much is evident in how he treats Sei.

But, what about the alphas? What about Clear? They're not his slaves, those would be the residents of Platinum Jail. They're not his children, he treats them far differently than Sei. If they were mere tools used for his research, he would have made an entirely different model after Clear was thrown out, not models that look identical to the same broken machine that failed to give him the results he wanted.

Why did he make Clear? What was his purpose before he was thrown out and why was he deemed defective? Why are the alphas deemed “almost perfect?” What did they do for Toue that Clear didn't do before he was thrown out for him to see them as “almost perfect?” I'm not saying or alluding to anything, I'm just saying it's WEIRD. Like, I'm not the only one who thinks Toue's fascination with Clear is fucking weird, right? Toue Tatsuo is a weird weird man.

ppl are saying among us in Glass Onion foreshadowed that someone was sneaking around and murdering the cast, vaguely suggesting it's a link to miles. but that's just sort of the plot of any murder mystery, hence amogus existing in the first place via ancient mystery game Mafia. no, it goes deeper.

what makes amogus special is three things. one, it is known for its special emergency meetings and body discovered votes, in which imposters are given a much greater number of opportunities for misdirection and lying and turning crewmates against each other (usually over loud voice chats where highest charisma wins).

two, it is known for the imposter having the ability to physically sabotage the environment to obfuscate their deeds.

helen frequently demanded answers, launched tirades, or gave a long detailed story multiple times in the movie, in and out of her "andi" character. helen pretended to be incompetent at searching her environment or talking for clues but she was actually amazing at both. helen pretended to be a terrible drinker unlike her late sister but she didnt act drunk until benoit mentioned, and even reflexively went for her fancy drink later. helen made the same mona lisa victory look we see andi used to do as she looks right into the camera as the last shot of the movie. helen literally sabotaged electrical.

when an imposter is accepted by all to be a crewmate, the crewmates lose...or, rather, the imposters win. and as a viewer of the game from the outside, innately, you want the imposter to win. it's the coolest that way.

we never really get detective's confirmation that andi ever died, in any capacity. nor does miles ever at any point in his fits of pride and idiocy stumble into admitting he did it. he killed one guy, and he was gonna kill countless ppl with his shit inventions, and he's a narcissist and manipulator and all around villain. he's the bad guy, no question. nobody wants to see this imposter win.

but there's one more thing that makes among us special. the default, always-used rules.

the game is played with ten people. and with ten players, there are always two imposters. in extreme circumstances, one winds up storytelling and shooting the other to win.

so I finally made a ref for my inside job sona who makes fucked up creatures to appear in episodes of paw patrol. one day alpha beta is causing mischief on the fifth floor with the picture of blucifer (he's been switching the pictures out over the course of the week and each time blucifers balls are a little bigger) and alvi catches him in the act while they're trying to corral a bunch of children into the screening room next to their office. hilarity and hijinks and romance(!?) ensue.
