A Story for Star Trek Day

I've told this story on Twitter before. I tell it every Star Trek Day and whenever a Deep Space 9 anniversary rolls around. It's about me and Avery Brooks (aka Best ST Captain Benjamin Sisko).

The college my mother went to specifically started recruiting top Black students in the 60s. Due to this, the Black kids all mostly knew each other as they were in that same program. Avery Brooks went to the same college and they were good friends.

(She once told me he had a huge crush on her and I was like MOM. MOTHER. WHAT. HOW COULD YOU HE COULD HAVE BEEN MY DAD.)

Anyway, many of the students in this program remained friends long after college. So over the years as Avery was getting TV gigs & such we would all watch cuz he was my mom's friend & I thought that was the coolest. There was one particularly fun night when my best friend's uncle, Frankie Faison, guest starred on A Man Called Hawk. TWO people we know on TV!

When I was in middle school Avery was touring his production of "Paul Robeson" and it came through our town, so I got to see him perform in person (awesooooome) and meet him for the first time since I was a baby (which I did not remember, of course).

Now, backing up a little bit: I am a Star Trek fan because of my mom. She loved the original series and I remember being a wee Tempest in front of the TV watching The Wrath of Khan and us excitedly going to see Star Trek IV together.

I watched TNG from the instant it appeared on TV because of her. I watched all of The Animated Series even though everyone looked "wrong". (Man... it took me 4 months to realize that dude in the red shirt was Scotty cuz I'd only ever seen movie Scotty.)

Then... they announced Deep Space 9.

We heard Avery Brooks would be the commander and there was MUCH rejoicing around our house. DS9 turned out to be the best Trek ever and, of course, Avery was awesome. This was around the time my mom dropped that "he had a crush on me but I wasn't interested" bombshell.

I'm still bitter.

I mean, I love my dad he's great. But SISKO COULD HAVE BEEN MY DAD.

I lost my mom in 1999. She was--and I'm not exaggerating--an extraordinary woman and beloved by many. I received so many beautiful messages of condolence from her friends all the way back to those college years, including Avery. So many people remembered her fondly. <3

I kept watching Star Trek and often talked to her as if she was there during episodes. She would have LOVED Discovery. Especially since she took me to RENT the year I started college. I'm sure she would have shared my opinion of Enterprise as well. But she loved her some Scott Bakula, so she would have watched, anyway.

I got the chance to interview Avery Brooks at DragonCon back in 2013 (jeez, it's been almost 10 years omg). Before the interview, I went up to him on the Walk of Fame and I said:

Hi, I'm (name K stands for) Bradford, I don't know if you remember me...

And he looked up and said: Of course I remember you.

We talked for a bit and I asked if I could come back and interview him later and he said yes (he wasn't supposed to; his handler had A LOOK). I didn't want to hold up his line, so I said I'd see him later.

Before I could go, he reached out for my hand and squeezed it before saying: I loved your mama, you know.

And we just stayed like that for a few seconds, missing her together.

...I might have been trying very hard not to burst into tears.

That DragonCon was the last time I saw Avery. Barring an extraordinary circumstance, that's probably the last time I'll see him in person. I'm glad we got to have that moment together. And we had a great conversation!

And I'm glad that it's another tie between me, my mom, and Trek. I can't watch DS9 without hearing her voice giving color commentary. Even the episodes she didn't live to see.

I think Star Trek is part of what gave her hope for the future. She passed that on to me. ❤️🖖🏾❤️

My Mother's Unbiased Byler + Milkvan Opinions - Viewing ST for the 1st Time!

My Mama has now witnessed Stranger Things in its entirety. Her favourite season was the third, her favourite characters Hopper and Joyce, her favourite pairing would be those guys too, and her most disliked pairing? Can only assume.

I wanted to write out her thoughts on the second to last episode previously, as she'd held many, but before I knew it we'd finished the whole show and I was forced to an income of NEW opinions which ruled out my memory of any old ones. Shucks. But boy did this lady have much to say. The only way I can break it down is by providing a sample of quotes she'd delivered, in order, a day after having finished the series.

All are just things she said about milkvan and byler, as they're this post's main focus. There's simply much to say about these relationships too, being so up in the air over where they ought be expected to turn out. These are all direct quotes too (as I typed as she talked, unkown to her) so you'll have to excuse the natural way in which some lines come off as unfocused, being written after real time conversations. Let's get into it:

Ok I really don't know whether she likes Mike very much. She actively disliked the guy earlier on, and now her feelings appear to be more mixed. A lot of her discussion was solely around this guy's actions.

"It's almost like he's [Mike] forcing himself like- ok Hopper he was kind of very passionate and kissing, you know he sort of instantly- with Mike, from being obsessed and spending so much time with her [El], suddenly he starts cooling off more and more and suddenly- they even separated right? I mean yeah that was out of his control but he, but he didn't really seem like he missed her you know it's like he just got on with it."

This point caught me off guard. I don't know how much I agree with my mother on this. It made me realize that during Mike and El's separation, there weren't many quiet Mike moments in which he expressed worry for her, beyond a couple that blend into him simply having breakup concerns. Any time Mike mentions distress for her whilst she's away, his talk evolves into him simply anxious over the state of their relationship. As a group, everyone in our Cali gang clearly wanted to save Eleven, but Mike really should have gotten more heartfelt moments in solitude (that means without Will you suffer bros) in which it is demonstrated to the audience that he really does miss her, as someone who is in love. Her being away shouldn't simply come off as a writing excuse for him to vent to Will. There wasn't enough of that tenderness milkvan desperately needs, and if anything I watched was an attempt then it really wasn't translated well - never trumping everyone else's familial or close frienship-like fret for El, never showcasing his concern to come from a more personal place. I mean how hard is it to have him in her room, staring longingly at a photo of hers, with a background composed of soft music. Then literally leaving it at that. I mean that is it. No Will rushing in there to insist, "you can tell her that thing when you see her k? It'll all work out trust me ight, you're the heart you're the HEART!" que affectionate gazes, constructs a byler scene for no reason I guess .

"I mean how do we know that he missed Will? He articulated it. Why didn't he articulate this the same way to El?"

True. I mean the fact that I can't remember a moment after they find El in which milkvan ask oneanother how they are, and communicate how much they missed eachother, does indeed say something. They shared a hug and touch when they first reunited, which was gladly interrupted by Will. That pineapple + pizza thing was not long enough, or sensitive enough, to be their moment. There was clear bonding, but it didn't breach a level of romance and chemistry nearly decently. It's good that they got at least that, I mean we need to know that these guys are at LEAST really close friends. And then the camera just felt like panning over to Will about to burst into tears in a corner. Like huh? Bruv you've now made it so that milkvan's pizza bit leaves a bad taste in our mouths. If I were a milkvan I'd be furious.

"You know what, I think it's done purposefully to create that sort of cold, distant, confused, you know they wanted to make people say he's [Mike] bisexual. For people to question. They want to get people to think that."

My Mama believes writers intentionally soured milkvan for viewers to "confuse" audiences, build up anticipation, make them question milkvan's relationship and wonder if our main man will spin to Will. I agree. They want that good ol' triangle comeuppance.

"They really are trying to bring that across- so that people start thinking Mike, you know he doesn't love El, he loves Will. They're really trying to, make people think that. Giving them [milkvan] a really nitty gritty relationship."

Yup.

"When you're gay. Coming out like that it's- it's terrifying. You have to be very careful. And Will could, he could tell. You know when someone is attracted to you. I think, things became sort of- sort of complicated. And Will sensed, he could feel that Mike is attracted to him. And that's why he could open up like that. Because you can always tell. You know, you just know, so that's why Will was able to confess these things to him [she sees painting scene as a confession, whether Mike realized it or not, and so do I]."

Well damn Mama. And there you have it folks. My.. I'm not gonna call her the h word but.. my- notabigfanofgaythingsandwouldbehappytopretendtheydon'texist mother, perceives Mike as a homosexual kid, and just that. Well bloomin heck that's all the confirmation I need.

I didn't expect this as a turnout, I mean so particularly. My Mama actually didn't like byler - I think. Well. Bloomin heck. She actually enjoyed Vickie x Robin, and this shocked me to my core. I don't know whether this is simply due to her being a fan of Vickie's actress (recognizing her from Anne With an 'E'), but I do know that my mother has a bias in gay relationships and sees ones involving females as more "pure" than that of two males. So her language when describing Will has changed since her realization that he loves Mike for sure (which became undeniable in the van scene). She describes him as being 'obsessed' with Mike, and says writers really wanted to get that obsession across. I agree with Will having been one note during season 4, him hopefully having more time to shine in the approaching season, but I thoroughly disagree with him coming off as obsessive. I suppose our camera man displayed the guy's little glances at Mike so often that my Mama felt it was overdone, and unable to be ignored. I also think she's just avoiding use of the word 'love' when describing anything homosexual.

She still doesn't think Mike demonstrates how much he loves El enough to leave no room for debate. According to her, his moments with her seem surface level. Just as a reminder she does not know my thoughts. She watched that entire 'I love you' thing and still isn't secure in any genuineness of the guy. I believe she supposes that we're intended to acknowledge milkvan's romance, but also probe it.

I now wonder whether my Mama was good enough representation for the average audience, because she actually does own a bias - this being that she usually actively dislikes gay things. So I puzzle over whether her brain overanalyzed any of the boys' highlights, wanting to "expose" their homo intentions. At first things were up in the air, but it became clear that Mike did not pass her gaydar, he was simply too intimate with Will to make that pass. And this wasn't the case in other seasons, she never questioned their friendship til now. She also hasn't acknowledged any supposedly queer relationships besides rickie (vobin?) and byler, meaning that other fan favourites such as elmax, steddie, ronance and such else didn't stand out as gay to her. This doesn't signify those other relationships to not have a chance, I'm elmax's personal cheersquad, it's plainly clear that my mother didn't have a tendency to point at every same sex relationship and yell suspicious. Byler was purely undeniable. You can thank Will's love being canoned for this, otherwise noone would have a need to read into Mike.

I don't know whether she supposes byler to have a chance moreso than the milk in the van, even with Mike's ambiguity. It would seem that as of right now her guess is that watchers are intended to second guess both relationships in order to build up interest. However, she doesn't know how unlikely Will's love life is to turn out negatively seeing as those damn writers manipulated crowds into consistently sympathizing for him. Dunno about the rest of you but that sounds like good news to me.

I have no idea how to close this analysis. Is it an analysis? There's much more I want to say, much more she said, but I fear this to be too jam-packed and aimless as is. I'm writing a third part to my most recent milkthevan failing relationship deep dive, and that'll possibly consist of thoughts I wish to input after gathering so much data from my mother.

okay so i love a lot of things about the new TOH episode, but as cheesy as this is gonna sound the thing i love the most is it shows that kindness and compassion is a cycle.

during the opening we see willow see that gus is in a very similar situation to her, and offers him some company as well as teaches him her dads' breathing exercise that helps her calm down.

next, we see gus show a lot of concern for hunter even if he's still wary of him at first, and later in the episode he teaches hunter the very same breathing exercise and also finds a way to sympathize with hunter and tells him, "not everybody's great, but not everyone's bad either".

and later, when gus is spiraling down his own bad thoughts, it's hunter's turn to reach out to him and comfort him. this time hunter tries to help gus with the breathing exercise he learned from gus...even though he didn't replicate it completely, his earnest attempt was enough to finally help snap gus out of his whirlwind of thoughts.

and, when hunter was trying to help calm gus down, he echoes back the same words that gus told him earlier during his breakdown. "i promise. i wouldn't mess with you."

another central theme of this episode is trust, and it's nice to see how it develops between gus and hunter, and also willow, even though she spent most of this episode separated from the other two. remember, in any sport a storm willow extends that trust to hunter, and gus was really wary of him. hunter almost broke that trust, but managed to restrengthen it by standing up for willow and the rest of the flying derby team.

during the start of this episode, gus still had some distrust towards hunter, but gus is very perceptive and soon realizes he can trust hunter. and the trust that develops between these two are what ultimately helps break them out of the predicaments they found themselves in. not to mention, willow was able to stand up for hunter because of something she shared with gus, which gus then shared with hunter.

idk, i just think it's really nice how much this episode demonstrates that the compassion and trust you give to other people will always eventually find its way back to you. what comes around goes around. especially since it's a show for kids and teens. i think it's an important message, and this episode helps get the point across without it being too blindingly optimistic, but also proving overly pessimistic ideals wrong.

Last part of my acoustic review!

When Smg3 hides Mario inside his hat for almost a good minute, Mario jumps out of there claiming that Smg3 needs to use shampoo or in other words needs a good shower.

Now, if we look into the latest video from the SMG4 Crew, if you’re one of those people who looks closer into the background details to find lore or clues that can lead up to a possible plot in future episodes of the series, you can see that Smg4 has researched if Smg3 takes a shower (as if Google is going to know that ._.xD) because he also has noticed that 3 stinks to the point that is kinda unbearable to be near him and even calling him out on it.

During the writing of this, I was talking to my partner and pointing out that Smg3 hasn’t taken a shower in days if not weeks, which I didn’t expect to have the same idea as him about the reason that he hasn’t taken a shower could be because maybe the guy is depressed since having depression can lead to not care about your hygiene that much or even yourself.

Which I’m going say that its probably going to get worse but who knows, maybe after this episode Smg3 will open up more but trust takes a long time to build up and specially when you lived almost your entire life alone, with no one to trust or cry to. Being in someone else’s shadow and everyone just viewing you as just the bad guy and never looking underneath that evil persona that you built up over the years.

But moving on, after Mario complains about Smg3’s odor. Getting poisoned, carried has a football, kidnapped and pulled like a rag doll…

Some may think that Smg4 still sees Smg3 as someone selfish and all but here’s the thing…

How was he supposed to know that Smg3 wasn’t feeling alright, if 3 isn’t letting his feelings out and just bottling himself to the point he snaps to Smg4 and tells him how he feels. How he’s been viewing himself as. Not caring anymore if Smg4 judges him or makes fun of him for being vulnerable, just like it happened when they wrecked his studio.

He even sounded like he was about to breakdown in front of Mario and Smg4, definitely a lot of emotion right there. To which I’ll say that James really did a good job with the voice acting👌

Now that Smg4 knows how 3’s been feeling, he does what a friend does and he well said it at the beginning of the episode

He lets Smg3 have the USB that was going to make 4’s channel popular, so 3’s café can be popular instead because he knows how much it matters to Smg3. He knows that this is going to give 3 that love and fame he’s been wanting for years.

If you guys remember that Sun and Moon example I did on the first part of this long ass review.

If I well said that the moon (Smg3) can’t shine that bright because is just a floating rock, it doesn’t mean the moon can’t receive help from the sun (Smg4) to shine a little bit by sharing some of that light. So, that’s what happened here.

(I expected a hug but I still like the fist bump 🤲✨)

After a beautiful and sentimental moment between these goobers, they see a light that at first they thought it was a sunrise but of course, they forgot that the dump was having a daily clean up that same night and like any normal human being, they would freak out and try to escape the place before getting blown to ashes.

Smg3 blames Mario for running away and Mario tells him that if only they knew how to BLJ, they wouldn’t have taken that long to find him. That’s when Smg4 has an idea to get them out of there, telling Mario to BLJ for their lives.

Eventually they get out of there and land on 3’s CnB. Smg3 grabs the video and starts to upload it to endorse his café buuut the plot twist is that the video with “Michael Jordan” didn’t have “Michael Jordan” and instead had a snail with name of “Mikel Jorden” endorsing the café.

Here’s where I question if Smg4 really know’s how to read? Like I get it, people can misread and it isn’t crime at all but man, there’s no way you didn’t catch the differences between “Michael Jordan” and “Mikel Jorden” ._.xD

Anyways, Smg3 was about to hand 4’s ass to him, after realizing he went through all that trouble for nothing and Smg4 wasn’t going to do anything about it since he would’ve probably done the same thing in 3’s place.

Though, someone enters the place, to which 3 & 4 turn around to see who entered the establishment and realized it was no other than Mikel Jorden and a bunch of more snails entering the place, causing the place to temporarily close down due to snail infestation.

AND THAT’S IT!!!!

My final thoughts of this episode:

Without a doubt one of my favorites. James really did a great job with the voice acting in this episode.

He’s done a great job with Smg3 over the course of the series but this episode he really sent it with the emotion 👍

The jokes landed nicely, making me laugh more than once of course.

And finally, the plot was really good. I like that we get to dive into Smg3’s character and see what’s going on with him a little more. I wonder what other things the next episodes will have in store to discover ;)

With that said, that’s it from me.

In another universe Zuko and Katara angst 

Summary

Taking place during the final episode after Zuko becomes firelord. Katara decides it’s time to see how Zuko really feels about her.

Today was a day that would be celebrated for many years to come. Today was the day 100 years of death was over. Today was the day 100 years of bloodshed was over. Today was the day 100 years of suffering was over. Today was the day the 100 year war had finally ended.Today Zuko was crowned the new fire lord. Today a new era of peace will come.

Katara found herself with her friends in a tea house Iroh had just opened up. Only Mia,Sokka,Toph,Sukki,Anng,Iroh,and Zuko were there with her. All of them having tea together as companions,as comrades, as friends and as family. Everyone was laughing and celebrating. Katara looked at her friends happily but one thing remained on her mind. A certain fire prince who had made her feel things no boy had ever made her feel.

When she first met him she hated him. And she thought he was one ugly guy. The bald head and ponytail style looked ridiculous to her. Whenever she imagined the fire nation and all the evil it was she pictured his face. How could someone be so heartless and cruel? How could someone want to return the world's only hope for his own self gain? Never showing any other emotion than anger and hatred. She hated him. She really did.

Until that one fateful night in Ba Sing Se. In the prison under the glow of the emerald shaded crystals. He looked completely different. His hair had grown so he didn’t look so ugly anymore. He looked…like he wasn’t angry anymore. And for a second she was reminded he was human as well. For a split second she thought maybe…just maybe…he could change. Only for those beliefs to be shattered in a million ways.

She didn’t see him for a long time after that. Until he had shown up asking for forgiveness and to join the group. If she hated him before, oh boy did she hate him so much then. How dare he have the audacity to ask to join the very same group he had been hunting down? The very same group he has tried to kill so many times. When the group started to trust Zuko she hated him even more. The sight of him made her blood boil. It made her even more mad when Zuko would try to talk to her. Until Zuko and her went on that quest to avenge her mother. Katara would’ve never gotten the closure she had needed for so long. If it weren’t for him.

After that they sorta became…close you could say. Katara had noticed things about him she didn’t before. He was always gentle or soft around kids whenever they were around them. Something she would’ve never guessed before. He was a harsh firebending teacher to Aang but never raised his hand to Aang and would compliment Aang whenever he had improved. Some nights Katara and Zuko were the only ones awake. They would share things about each other that they didn’t know before. Zuko would share things about his culture and family. He would tell her about his holidays on ember island with his family. What his sister was like as a kid. What his mother was like. How much he missed his uncle. Katara would tell him about her culture. Her grandma. How much she missed the snow. Zuko would listen carefully. He had asked if one day he could visit. She noticed on the nights while they stayed up late that Zuko never acted this soft and opened around the others. Only her. She only got to see this side of Zuko. It made her feel special. She also noticed how…beautiful he was. Even with his scar. It gave her butterflies.

She knew she loved him when Zuko almost died for her. The terror she felt when the blue glowing lines of lighting hit him in order to stop them from hitting her. The rush she felt when she handcuffed Azula and sped over to him to heal him. The thought of going on without him felt suffocating. The relief she felt when he was still breathing and alive she felt was so heavy. She wanted to kiss him there. Tell him how much she loved him. She would’ve if it weren’t for Azula screaming in the background.

She looked around, seeing that Zuko was not in the room with her or their friends. He had been serving tea to everyone he most likely went to the kitchen to get more. She got up from her table, excusing herself before heading to the kitchen doors. The doors opened silently with no creaking sounds. She peeked into the kitchen to see Zuko pouring the hot tea into the tiny little cups. She closed the doors behind her. It made a quiet clicking sound causing Zuko to turn and discover whoever came to see him. A smile formed on his lips seeing who it was.

“Hello Katara” her name felt like it belonged on his lips. She smiled at him before walking over.

“Is your scar doing better?” Katara asked, eventually standing beside him over the teacups.

“It hurts when I touch it but other than that it’s healing well you did a good job on it” the memory of seeing Zuko's chest while healing him came to Katara and made her blush a little bit. Katara expected him to have a peck but still. She quickly got that memory out of her head trying to focus on the compliment.

“Thank you it’s funny that you’re serving tea even though you just got crowned firelord”

“Uncle says the best Royalty is serving others” Katara looked out the window as the sunset was giving the sky a purple yellow hue. Both the sun and moon were dancing together.

“It’s crazy to think how far we’ve come hasn’t it? A year ago I was a water bender in hiding”

“A year ago I was a banished prince trying to capture you” both of them chuckled at his comment.

“I’m glad the war is over but I’m gonna miss travelling with everyone, I’m sad we’re all going our separate ways now” Zuko looked over at Katara giving her a sympathetic look.

“We won’t not see eachother forever Katara the world still needs to be fixed 100 years of war doesn’t go away like that, it’s gonna take a long time to bring this era of peace the world still needs the avatar, and the avatar needs his friends” Zuko had somehow always managed to find a way to make Katara feel better. Even though it was expected he would be the last person that could.

“Yeah that makes me feel better thanks Zuko”

“Besides I still wanna visit your tribe, and apologise to them for what my nation and I did to them”

“Yeah grandmas gonna beat you up when she sees you” both of them laughed at her comment, Zuko more nervously than Katara. Katara took a second to look at Zukos features. He looked handsome in his firelord outfit earlier. But now with his hair done and simple clothes on he looked so…majestic. Zuko seemed to notice Kataras staring.

“Is there something on my face?”

“No it's just..” Katara took a moment to choose her words. “You look really good in your firelord outfit but you…look so much like yourself right now…I’m going to miss seeing your hair down like this all the time” Katara saw Zuko's cheeks turn a light shade of pink before going back to pour some more of the tea. Katara looked out the window and saw Aang looking out into the sky from outside. Katara loved Aang. And she knew he loved her. But something about Zuko was just…different. He just…got her. Got her in a way Aang never could. Katara sighed she had nothing else to lose it was now or never.

“You know..Aang loves me right?” Zuko stopped pouring the tea for a second before continuing.

“Yes everyone knows he does”

“And..I’m sure I love him too” Zuko didn’t respond to Katara's comment, giving her a glint of hope.

“Zuko, is there anything you want to say to me before I tell him?” Zuko put the tea pot down and turned to her.

“Katara…I..” he had to have felt something towards her right? He literally almost died for her. Maybe just maybe he did. Maybe they could make it work. Maybe they could be happy. She didn’t want to let him go. Hope spread through her body. His eyes looked at her intensely. She could feel the heat rush to her cheeks. He looked like he wanted to say something like his words were stuck in his throat. He must love her he-

“I think you look gorgeous in that dress” Katara felt her heart shatter. Did Zuko really not feel anything towards her? Were all the nights they spent talking just plationic and nothing more? Katara kept her head up high, hiding her heart break.

“Thanks there was nothing in blue in the market so I got the closet thing I could get”

“You should wear that colour more often if it suits you” Zuko smiled at Katara. But if she looked closely she almost saw a hint of sadness behind that smile. But she probably was just imagining it. Just like she imagined Zuko having feelings for her.

“Thank you Zuko I’m going to see Aang I”ll catch up with you later when the parade is on” Katara began to walk out the room when Zuko spoke.

“Katara wait” Katara stopped in her tracks and looked back. Maybe she wasn’t being delusional. Maybe he did love her. But her hopes were shot back down as soon as they came back up.

“My…father…he told me what might’ve happened to my mother…it would be an honour if you could accompany me on this journey” despite it not being exactly what she wanted to hear she still felt happy he wanted her there. She smiled at the firelord.

“Of course I would love to come” Zuko smiled back at Katara

“Thank you Katara you”ll always be a special person in my life”

“And so will you” were the last words Katara said to Zuko before exiting the kitchen. She closed the doors behind her. She let out a long sad sigh. She loved Zuko. But she had to let him go. Because it was clear he didn’t love her. She loved Aang. She knew she would be happy with him. But there would always be calling to her asking what if?. But she couldn’t let that hold her back. She needed to move on. Zuko was her first love. Even if he didn’t feel the same way at least she could be his friend.

Katara exited the building and walked over to Aang. Who waved happily at her. She loved Aang. She really did. This was for the best she thought to herself. As the sunset and the fireworks set off being tested for the parade being held for Zuko later tonight. Aang and Katara shared a deep loving kiss. Letting all bottled up feelings come out.

Little did Katara know someone was watching not too far.

Zuko watched from a high window. His face showed no emotion but if you looked closely a deep sadness was in his eyes. He felt his heart quietly break as he watched the one he loved kiss someone else. Someone that wasn’t him. And he thought that his heart was already so broken it couldn’t be broken anymore. But oh he was so wrong. He loved Katara. Like no girl before her. But it was just impossible. Her destiny was to help the Avatar restore peace. And his destiny was to restore honour to his nation. Her and Aang were made for eachother. They were always meant to be together. Zuko knew that. Zuko also knew that if he told her he loved her. She would be his. Which is why he couldn’t tell her. She had to follow her destiny. Which is why he must let Katara think he never loved her. He loved Mia. He truly did. And he knew he would be happy with her. But if things were different. He would take the water bender into his arms. Kiss her. Hold her. Tell her how much he loved her. But he couldn’t. Even if she wasn’t made for the avatar. The fire nation would never accept a water tribe girl as their fire lady. He didn’t want to give Katara that burden when she could be happier with Aang. He looked away, he couldn't watch anymore. He had to let her go. But he knew that in the back of his mind he would always wonder what if..

Maybe in another universe the war never happened and the fire nation would be accepting of her.

Maybe in another universe he wasn’t a prince and he could be with who he wanted without worrying about the public opinion.

Maybe in another universe her destiny was with him and not with Aang.

Maybe in another universe one of them was brave enough to tell the other.

Chapter I

Summary: Bradley has always been the single friend of all of his friend groups. However he’s tired of everyone trying to set him up with random women until one day he asks you to be his plus one to his friends marriage so they stop bothering him about getting a girl. What happens when you both start liking this lie you’ve been telling people? Warnings: None at the moment; probably smut, alcohol consumption, a little bit of angst, cursing, ...

Chapter Two

In that bathroom’s shower, you were questioning all your life choices. How you, Lieutenant Y/n Y/l/n, at thirty-three years old stable woman, accepted the childish task to be your coworker fake little girlfriend? What has gotten you to even accept something like that? Of course, Bradley Bradshaw wasn’t someone you’d be ashamed of daring. He’s lovely; funny; and very handsome. That is exactly what the problem is, he’s your friend, a really good friend, but he is also a very attracting man and the fact of sharing a bed with him for a whole week wasn’t really soothing.

You are sure that you are going to over-think everything that happens during this week. Not because you want him to be attracted to you but by the fact that you are scared that seeing that side of you will make him underestimate your qualification to do your job. You still are co-workers, and you’d say that the Navy more than any job is a very competitive environment. You have always done your best to be as professional as could -even with your teammates- so what could happen if your aptitude of judgement is doubted because you’ve left someone from your work milieu have access to the real you?

You were so lost in your thoughts that you didn’t hear Bradley knocking at the bathroom’s door. “Viper, are you good in there? I’ve tried knocking several times, but I didn’t get an answer from you. You’re in there for almost one hour already and I really need to pee.” “Oh yeah, shit, give me one minute and the bathroom is all yours” you utter while leaving the shower. You dress up very quickly, so you don’t have time to dry you hole body, making some parts of you pajama shorts stick to you tights, same with your belly. Your hair is dripping wet, so you wrap it in you towel and open the door.

“There you go, sorry I didn’t hear you, I’m just exhausted.” You tell him, feeling embarrassed that he almost peed himself because of you. “Don’t worry, I’ll survive. You should go to sleep now; I’ll try my best to not make any loud noise and wake you up” he replies entering the bathroom and closing the door. You go to bed still drying your hair and you feel how chilly the weather actually is, so you decide to take a pair of socks and a hoodie to warm yourself up a bit.

When you’re done putting on your hoodie, Rooster comes out of the bathroom and goes to the living room, and you follow him. “Aren’t you going to sleep?” you ask him as you sit on the couch arm. “Yeah, but I’m a little hungry so I’m just looking for something to eat before going to bed. Do you want something?” “I mean, yeah, if you find something in here let me know” “I was thinking about ordering in room-service” “do you really think they make room-service at two am Bradshaw? “Why not? Were in Hawaii baby, you can have anything you want here” he says proud of himself while you were a little flustered with the new nickname.

Turned out they do make room-service at two in the morning, but you and Bradley had order a cold sandwich because the kitchen was obviously already closed so you took a chicken caesar sandwich while he took a tuna mayonnaise one along with two beers. You were both eating on the living room couch while watching The Vampire Diaries -He made you rewatch the episode he missed while he was sleeping.

“Do you realize that you’re eating while watching tvd at almost three in the morning right? You’re practically a fangirl already. You just need to drool at Damon Salvatore and your part of the fandom” you warn him while taking you beer and taking a sip. “Damon is the bad boy, right? I don’t know why you girls are so crazy about him, he’s just one more random white dude who looks like he’s horny 24/7” “Please, don’t disrespect Ian Somerhalder in front of me ever again or else you’ll suffer the consequences” you stare at him with a fake threat stare “Sorry ma’am, not doing it again” he says raising his hands “Good. And we like him because he knows he’s sexy and doesn’t try to hide it” you say shrugging and he only stare at you while nodding.

“I think we should try to sleep now. When do we have to meet your friends?” You asked while collecting the wrappers and beer cans and Bradley was cleaning the leftovers. “We are supposed to meet them for breakfast. I mean, if we wake up in time,  I’m drained from all of my energy right now”. “Do you want me to put an alarm? I’m probably wake up at seven. Or least try” “It’d be cool if you woke me up at the same time as you” “No problem!”.

As both of you went in direction of the bedroom, Rooster took out his hoodie and you couldn’t help but stare at his body. He really had a Greek god type of body, that you couldn’t deny. As soon as you realized that you were staring, you looked away disconcerted, cursing your own eyes for being so shameless.

The moment he realized what you were looking at and how embarrassed you, he quickly apologized “Sorry Y/n, I wasn’t expecting it to make you uncomfortable. It’s just that I didn’t have the chance to change since we arrived here”. He quickly reached for his pajama shorts. “I don’t usually sleep with a shirt on because I get really hot at night. But if you prefer, I can put a random shirt on…” “What? No, no, it’s okay. I just wasn’t expecting it. But really, get yourself comfortable, I’m not a young girl who can’t bear a shirtless man anymore” you said with a little grin. “Alright then, Lieutenant Mature Woman” he said laughing.

He then went into the bathroom to change and when he came back, you were already under the sheets, leaving him the window side. “I see madam has already chosen to let me get blinded by the sunlight for the hole week” he said while only your head was  sticking out of the blanket. “Don’t be dramatic, the curtains are blackouts” you say, already starting to fall asleep. “Night, Viper” he said laying down next to you. “Night Rooter” you answered, already half asleep.

The next morning -if you call it that, according to how late you slept-, you woke up thanks to the alarm you had put on the night before. Before you could get used to your surroundings, you felt a weight on your waist and something pressed against you upper back and as you tried to get up, you felt it pull you back to bed. As you looked behind you, you saw Bradley trying to hide his face from the sun against your skin, his arm wrapped around you as he held you closer. You felt his body warmth all over yours since he was spooning you, attached to one another.

He was still sleeping, and you tried to get out of bed without waking him, but he didn’t to want to let you go so you called his name softly. “Rooster” you tried a first time, but he didn’t seem to have listened to you, so you tried again “Bradley, we got to get up or we’ll miss breakfast…”. It is only then that he starts waking up, looking around until he sat up on the bed with a sleepy face and disheveled hair. While he stretched, he asked you “what time is it?” and you answered that it was 07:05 in the morning. “I’m going to go brush my teeth really quick and you can have the shower for yourself. I know you didn’t have time to wash because of me yesterday. Just try not to make us late” you informed him as you entered the bathroom.

A few minutes after, you exit the bathroom, leaving him room to take while you get yourself ready. You decided to something simple: white high waisted jeans shorts; a beige tank top; a green floral shirt over it and white converse and some basic jewelries and sunglasses. You opted to put only a little bit of makeup on since it’s still morning, only a bit of concealer, blush, mascara, and some cherry lip balm.

Once you finished getting ready, you sat down on the couch waiting for Bradley, also giving him some privacy to change. About two or three minutes later came join you in the living room, wearing khaki pants, a with plain t-shirt and one of his usual Hawaiian shirts over it. It was already 07:20 so he asked you “Are you ready?”. “Yep. I was just waiting for you” you answer as you stand up”. “Let’s go then” he says guiding you outside of the room before locking the door.

As soon as you arrive in the hotel restaurant, you can immediately spot his friends because they were all at one big table at the end of the room. A few seats were still available, so you assume you weren’t the last ones to get there.

As they spotted one of you, a blond girl stood up and came walking towards you. “Bradley! It’s so good to see you!” she says hugging him and then turning to you. “And you must be Y/n. Bradley talked a lot about you!” she hugged you the same way she did to Rooster, and you hugged her back. “He did?” you asked looking at him. “Of course! I’m so happy he finally found someone, you’re so pretty! I’m Kate by the way, I’m the bride.” She states smiling at you. “Thank you! You look gorgeous too. Congratulations for your wedding!” you say holding Bradley’s upper arm, trying to not make it awkward. “Thank you so much. I’m so excited! Oh, Thomas is at the buffet, he wanted some croissant, but he’ll be back soon. Meanwhile you can sit down and start taking your breakfast” she says touching Bradley’s arm and returning to the table.

You both sat at the end of the table, in front of Thomas and Kate, where you saw your names in little tags. Quickly, Thomas returned to the table and greeted you while presenting himself to you. While everyone small talked about nothing and everything, Kate caught you to say, “Luckily I saw the mistake on your reservation in time to change right?” she started, and you didn’t know what she was talking about.

“Sorry, what mistake?” you answered while glancing over Bradley, who was too busy chatting about some baseball game with Thomas and a guy named Theo. “Oh, you didn’t know? I saw on your reservation that you were supposed to have two single beds instead of a double one in your room. By chance, I always check the reservations before travelling to be sure and this time I did for all of you too” she replied seeming to be relieved that everything was working out well not only for her and Thomas but her guests as well.

You really wanted to be mad at her for taking a little bit of your intimacy always, but you knew better that to do so. She was trying her best to make everything perfect for everyone and obviously didn’t know that you and Rooster weren’t really a thing, so you simply said “Oh my god, really? That was so thoughtful of you!” while returning her smile.

 You must have answered a bit louder than you had done for the whole meal because it caught Bradley’s attention, who turned to you, placing his arm on the back of your chair. “What’s going on here?” he asked looking at both of you. “Kate was telling me she fortunately was able to change our reservations when she saw they’d give us two beds instead of a double one” you answered laying you hand on his bicep that was behind you, turning to face him and giving him a fake little smile.

“Well thank you Katie, it would be really odd to stay separated for so long” he tells her, smirking at you “Don’t worry Brad, I know how little mistakes like this are the worst. Plus, I didn’t want you to stay away from your woman that long” she replies and wink at you. At that moment you try something new to see if it will work. “Oh, don’t worry Kate. Even if he wanted, he couldn’t stay away from me. The only way for him to have a good night of sleep is cuddling little a little baby” you say while holding his face into your hand and making eye contact.

You notice that he’s blushing at the same time as Kate and she says, “Oh my god look at him blushing right now, that’s so cute!!” and you just laughed, turning to look back at him. He just stares back at you totally flustered and then he comes closer to you until his face is hidden behind your neck. At first you don’t know what to do until you feel his breath behind your ear, giving you goosebumps. You then decide to comb you hand through his hair while looking at Kate and smiling as she takes a photo of both of you with her disposable camera.

For the wedding, every guest received a disposable camera personalized for the occasion. During the week, everyone is supposed to take nice photos for them to make their weeding photobook. After taking your photo she said “Here, give me your phone so I can save my number on it and take yours too. You looked so cute, I had to pic, I’ll send you a copy if you want”. “Yeah, sure, I’d love that. Thanks!” you say as Bradley lifts his head, looking at you and then returning his attention to the boys.

After breakfast, you all agreed to explore the city. You were really excited by the beach, but you knew that there were a lot of beautiful spots too. You agreed to not stay too long outside because a lot of you were tired because of the flight. Bradley and you went up to your room so you could freshen up your makeup and change into something else.

Rooster decided to but jeans shorts with his white shirt with yellow flowers on it along with his golden chain that somehow matched his hair color. You chose to change into a white tank top and a long purple floral skirt. You also changed your hairstyle and decided to tie it up in a messy bun just so the temperature outside wouldn’t be to hard to handle. You also replaced your converse to white sandal, trying anything to be the most comfortable possible.

You both went down to the hall waiting for everyone since you were the first ones to be ready. He then asked you “Hey Viper, do you think we should like… hold hands? I mean, when we’re with them, maybe it would be suspicious if we didn’t” and you answered him “Yeah, it would definitely be weird if we didn’t. I mean we can also pay attention what they do while outside, so we don’t look like fifth graders holding hands awkwardly”. “We are awkward actually but yeah, if you say so, we should definitely do this” “Hey! I’m not awkward” you answered as if you were offended, and he laughed. “Yes ma’am, you’re totally right”.

Everyone gathered in the hall and were ready to go so he looked behind him searching for you, and he finds you he reached to take your hand. At first you looked at him and then at his hand. Taking a deep breath, you moved toward him and took his hand in yours giving him a little smile. He stared at you for a little while and asked, “Are you ready?” and you didn’t say anything, just nodding, giving him the green light to start your charade. You already know it’s going to be a long week…

Vinnie everyman hcs

I'm really sorry this is gonna be pretty long.

Now I don't have a theme for this, so ,,, if any of you want Vinnie hcs (or any slenderverse for specific situations,, asks are open (I'm autistic and love to share and talk about my favorite characters) (also I've never made a hc post sorry if this sucks I'm really only good at typing alot of nonsense)

For one I think Vinnie is an avid music enjoyer, I feel like he spends a lot of his time listening to music. It's a good way to drown out any overwhelming feelings or thoughts he doesn't want to be having. He probably carries a pair of headphones on him wherever he goes and he has a wide variety in the type of music he enjoys, so the group can never guess what he'll be listening to next.

(I have a playlist for him,,, it's songs that make me think of him MIXED w songs that I think he'd listen to)

I did include songs he canonically liked too/played in the series.

He listens to very emotional songs, he listens to songs that specifically fit the mood he's feeling, like alot of people do.

Vinnie is a very emotional character, considering the fact that he has BPD, (Princeton Vinnie canonically had it, so it's safe to assume channel Vinnie also does) He has very high highs and low lows.

He'll go from really wanting to be with the group and wanting to spend time with them to immediately assuming they're out to get him or hate him seconds later the moment something small happens.

Usually Evan is able to pull Vinnie from that headspace before it gets too bad, but sometimes it's just not enough to know people are there. Sometimes it all just feels like a complete lie.

I think during these times Vinnie will completely isolate himself, paralleling the way habit kept him locked up, He would just stay inside, ignoring texts or calls in order to pay attention to something he deems to be more important at the time. Like finishing an episode of his favorite show, Or maybe he's too busy trying to beat a game, he Swears he'll answer but. 9 times out of 10 he's DEFINITELY not going to.

Vinnie canonically views him and habit as "Partners." To him, he and habit are on the same level. even though he KNOWS habit is extremely powerful.

Vinnie is the only one to ever test habits buttons on purpose, he's trying to get a reaction out of him. He wants Habit to act out y'know?? it's good content for him.

Well that, and I think it's a good way for him to get the "punishment" he thinks he deserves. He probably searches for the opportunity for getting hurt by habit.

Because it's Evans body.

he could almost pretend it was Evan himself so he could some sort of excuse for things he's doing, So he can see the way Evan would look if he knew the things Vinnie had done.

That would only work for so long though, because after awhile Habit became the only thing Vinnie could rely on, the only person Vinnie could see, he was all Vinnie could think about.

So it eventually turned from Wanting some sort of punishment, to actively seeking out attention from habit, bad or good, it is not important. All Vinnie wanted was ATTENTION.

He wanted the eyes on him.

He is the eyes, he sees everything, He's ALWAYS been so aware of what's going on.

I mean it was literally HIS idea to start the channel, HE made the logo. THIS IS HIS!!!!!

and habit SEES that, habit SEES him, and Vinnie wants to KEEP being seen.

So he's gonna mindlessly do what he's told like some house trained dog who sits by the front door waiting for it's owner to come back and feed him whatever scraps he can get.

And scraps obviously meaning content. Habit comes home and brings Vinnie peices of content, it's never enough for Vinnie of course, he's always trying to get more. That's why he's always pushing everyone else to MAKE more. He's addicted to the content.

like he was addicted to so much shit back in the 80s !!!

You don't have to answer this but I wanted to let you know you got me super invested in SunxEclipse stuff.

The way they are in the show has always intrigued me. Like the way those two interacted had always felt different in a way??? And I'd always get all excited when I found little similarities between the two characters.

Rambling a bit but does anyone remember how in the Halloween takeover Eclipse forced Moon to go through the same pain Sun went through when they shared a body? And he just left Sun to chill and nap in his own mind??? (Probably the longest break Sun's ever had btw akskdh) LIKE WHAT HELLO???

And there were plenty of times Eclipse could have just killed Sun but. Didn't? Like when he got into SolarFlare's body. And when Sun destroyed Moon's magic circles, Eclipse explained to Sun how he could fix the problem instead of just letting him walk into the raw magic and tear himself apart? (Think that was the longest and calmest convo they ever had lmao)

The fuckinggg. Symbolic base Eclipse had on the surface of the sun.

Alot more I could say (especially about how similar Sun acts like Eclipse in manyyy instances) but very eepy almost midnight.

Anyway I like SunxEclipse. Would never admit that off anon tho because the world is. Very mean. Sometimes. :/

Glad I got you interested in Sun x Eclipse stuff too. XD

At this point in show lore, Sun is the one who knows Eclipse the most. So who knows where we'll go with that.

And yeah... Forcing Moon to go through the same pain that Sun experienced when sharing a body.... I mean, sure. It was probably to get Moon to suffer. But that also feels so vengeful and purposeful.

It was also worth noting in the early introduction of Eclipse, when he was in Sun's head and leaking out during intense moments of Gameplay Videos. (and I still stand by that Eclipse was the one who said "Chillapachino" that one time and was enjoying being Silly with Sun.)

But whenever Eclipse took over in gameplay, he was always a little more angry.... Sure... But like.... He was also way more assertive, and tended to stand up to Moon more. Something that EARLY Sun didn't really do all that much.

Maybe I'm misremembering, but I think he threatened to take away Moon's whacking stick at one point as well. But I might have imagined that and that might not have been a legit thing.

Not to mention GodEclipse kept Sun around of all people. He even killed Lunar in that dimension, but he thought Sun was worthy to live. He even wiped his memories so he wouldn't suffer too much. Even when we see GodEclipse he says "My Sun is dead" His Sun. Not like... "that nuisance" or "idiot" is dead... His Sun.

And Remember, GodEclipse is not TOO Much a Diversion from the timeline.

The only difference is that he won the fight with Bloodmoon and got the Star shortly after then. And he wiped everyone like he said he would, unlike Eclipse 2.0 who got upset cus Old Moon died and he had no one to monologue about his hate boner to.

Eclipse also in early episodes didn't really include Sun much in his evil Plans. His vendetta and focus was solely on Moon. Sun just kinda got twisted up in a lot of it due to circumstance and him being trapped in Sun's head.

But yeah... Lunar says that he knows Moon better than anyone cus he lived in Old Moon's head.

That goes both ways.

Eclipse and Sun know each other better then anyone at this point.

If there is someone to give Eclipse a chance, I hope it's Sun.

I feel Sun would be a hypocrite if he tries with Bloodmoon and doesn't with Eclipse.

But I guess we'll see.

• There are theories that XZ was at Web’s hotel 7/16, this whole thing is so reminiscent of what happened during BAH/SDC 2020. Where Web can’t wait to get off work. The reason is, Bobo was found to be at the hotel twice within the day. He came back twice. Why can’t he just be on set? People were saying there are so many scenes being filmed but he stayed there for like an hour then went back on set which is 2 hours travel time ( back and forth ). What’s so special at his hotel? 🐰

Then some yellow clowns brought up an interview where Web said he has little time to practice dance — so he does it in the shower. Hmmmmm. 😏

What we noticed is GG has a hidden weibo post that appeared around the same time Web was online. We CPN that GG posted something in private just for them. We don’t know at this point what their schedule is but there is some chance of them meeting. It was a quiet birthday on Yibo’s part because of Political tensions.

Yandere Red Guy Headcanons

The blorbo himself. I figured this would be the best way to thank you all for 100 followers. I didn't mention anything about the Boss episode in this, so if you want Yandere Boss Red Guy you'll have to request it. This will kind of be a mix between the OG series and the new one. So just think of it as still kinda stuck in a time loop, and violent teachers. Anyways- THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH, and since I didn't post on Halloween, I'll open requests back up FOR 1 DAY. Red has always been a 'show, don't tell' kind of guy. Trying to get your attention by doing something he knows you like or are interested in, but denying that he's doing it for you are all too common, and he tries his best to keep his cool around you. He finds himself staring lingeringly, overall showing much more emotion than normal. You're a bit of...well, normalcy.

Red Guy doesn't talk as much as he would like to be around you, and he always ends up getting lost in his imagination for what he'd say, what the two of you would do if together in a relationship. The songs he could write for you, the stories he could share. But truly, he knows nothing about you, nor about anyone else in the residency of this house. You're just another person in the house, who has a name he doesn't yet know.

Tries to get closer to you, but it can be hard when you end up getting killed or mentally scarred every other day. The two of you barely know each other, you two are just people in the same situation. So maybe, he can use it to his advantage. Comfort is always welcomed, especially during hard times like this, so it's just a way of getting closer to you. Physically and mentally.

"Hey, you seem upset... You know, I didn't like that guy all that much either. Too...loud. But hey, he's gone now. That's good, right?"

Despite all of the chaos that ensues on a daily basis, he sees this as a way to defend you and show you that he's dependable, someone you can trust. And the more you talk to him, or at least you show you trust him, his pursuit turns more aggressive. And the more he longs for a life of normalcy with you, the more he starts to break.

His temper only comes out when something stands in the way of his dream life with you, or if you're in danger of a teacher about to show you a life lesson unwanted. He's not very violent, normally that is, but now? You're in trouble, and that won't go well with him. He'll probably die, as per usual, and the rest of you probably will too. But you all will come back, and he can only look at you and hope you can remember the sacrifice he made. And even if you do, you never bring it up.

He can get kinda scary when he tries to leave, wanting a life with you drives his mental state into a rut. He'll drag them along too so they can have freedom, as to boost your image of him as kind and thoughtful, but he expects them to leave as soon as they can once freedom has finally arrived. Just you and him, doesn't that sound nice? And if they die along the way? They were expendable, no need to cry about them.

"...I don't want to go back." You could hear the yellow one mumble sadly "I just want to make it stop." You couldn't bear to look at his face, because if it's anything like his voice right now, you'd break down. You must remain strong.

"NO, NO WE WON'T GO BACK-" He yelled some more, the sound of his rage just filled each of you with dread. It was a horrible prayer, pleading, almost full on screaming for something, anything to save them. But after so long, his voice drifted away. All you could hear were your thoughts, so lost in your mind, you didn't even notice how the world around you all started to glitch.

"please," you thought "just let this be done. I don't care if I die, I don't care if I go somewhere else, anything is better than here. Please"

..And then, you all wake up once more, in the same room, in the same order. You didn't even bother sitting up, too tired to move after. You can feel yourself start to shake, afraid of the next moment A new teacher could appear. It could be anytime. A month or two? A year? ...A minute?

You prayed for this bad dream to end, for the horrible imagination of whatever monster made this to die, for you to go home, to a place you can't even remember. But you know that a prayer unheard is just wishful thinking. And you were just wishing.

You can hear the tussling of sheets to your left. It was Red, he always got up first. You could hear a sigh, but he still didn't get up. It appears he really did think he was close to freedom. You wish you could feel the same.

He looked at you, you could feel his eyes gaze at you, even when your head was turned. You couldn't tell what he could possibly be feeling, thinking that he was so close to freedom. Anger? Disappointment? ... Fear? Either way, he sighed and got up, leaving the rest of you alone in your individual beds.

daryl barricading judith in the hospital the same way shane did to rick in 01x01 – like father, like daughter and even brother because he also carried her the same way rick carried carl when he got shot

 actually, daryl carrying judith into the hospital to save her life vs how he carried beth out after she was killed. the FEAR he must’ve felt given the last time he carried someone in/out from the hospital.

any scene between them + carol (keeping this short bc i can write a whole novel about their scenes) 

luke dying & being comforted by magna, yumiko, connie & kelly (his og group) during his final moments; even though he wasn’t seen for most of the season, dan folger’s acting + that of nadia hilker, eleanor matsuura, lauren ridloff & angel theory was TOP-TIER 

people always die in twd, but up until luke, the newish members of the group didn’t really suffer a sudden and harsh loss like the group from earlier seasons until now

that’s why his death + the group’s raw grief hit different when you consider how this is the first time we’ve seen them have to mourn one of their own so suddenly and with walkers literally banging on their doors

the team up of eugene porter & gabriel stokes = the two characters who, at one point of the story, were the weakest and most cowardly members of the group. i mean, the parallels of how they started vs. how they ended are insane:

eugene, who lied to abraham and rosita about knowing how to cure the infection almost making himself a martyr by telling the truth about the common wealth’s corruption, and 

gabriel, who locked his congregation outside his church to die being the first to open the gates for everyone even when pamela’s people had their guns pointed at him 

if twd did anything right, it was the development of these two characters

even if i didn’t know christian serratos chose rosita’s ending, i still would’ve thought she had a fitting end as one of the original (and last) big hitters for rick’s group on the road

it wasn’t painful and gory like abraham or glenn, shocking like sasha’s or even bittersweet like carl’s in the midst of war– rosita dies a dignified and otherwise peaceful death after all the bloodshed is said & done

she sees her people are safe, knows her daughter’s in good hands and finally lays to rest after fighting on the frontlines for so long

even with her gone, her final interaction with eugene at her side really cements that he is her and abraham’s legacy because “i’m glad it was you at the end” 

(someone make baby rosie looking up to older coco because her mom was her namesake + uncle eugene canon right now) 

this post-war celebration dinner mirroring the what-if dream dinner from 7x01 about what could’ve been (credit to this article for the pic: here) also makes rosita’s death so poignant to me because negan had likened the dream as something that wouldn’t ever happen

it’s not the same exact group and it wasn’t exactly her dream, but the sentiment remains the same

in the end, peace was possible for the alexandrians after all & i’m so glad rosita got to see this before she went & re-joined the others who are no longer at the table 

negan & maggie now established as two sides of the same coin: motives, beliefs and and now shared trauma of being unable to stop their partner from being killed (or almost killed, in negan’s case) as they’re about to start a family

maggie was never going to forgive him for what he did, but that in itself gives so much more substance to their spin-off and i can’t wait to see it happen

TTEOTM is the most viewed non-dangai xianxia drama since Ashes of Love 😮

With the conclusion of Yunhe (云合)'s airing period on Jun 11, we can officially say that TTEOTM is the biggest non-dangai xianxia drama since 2018, with 68M views/episode!

2023 Yunhe Playback per Episode - #1 is The Knockout, #2 is TTEOTM

Kuyun (酷云), a different data platform unaffiliated with any online streamer, also put TTEOTM at 70M views/episode, but its data only go back two years, so we use Yunhe to compare further back.

This makes TTEOTM the #2 show in 2023. Since 2023 is not yet over, if it aired in another year, it would overtake #2 in 2022, #4 in 2021, and #6 in 2020. (Viewership used to be higher in past years, more on that later)

Just to provide a bit context on why this is so insane, so beyond anyone's expectations:

TTEOTM aired exclusively on Youku, the weakest of the big 3 platforms. Youku only has 1/3 to 1/2 of iQiyi and Tencent's daily active user base. If you look at the top 10 dramas in 2018-2022, all of them aired on iQiyi, Tencent, many of them on both or even all 3 platforms. Before TTEOTM, Youku's biggest web exclusive drama is Who is He, police mystery featuring Knockout Star Zhang Yi at 44M views/episode. And before 2023, the highest a Youku exclusive web drama has ever ranked on the annual list is #15 (The Blue Whisper).

The xianxia genre is thought to have a limited audience (young women) even though it generates a lot of fanfare. This might be surprising given how well it travels abroad. However, if you look at the top 3-4 shows each year, it's usually a mix of historical family dramas, crime/thrillers, modern/urban dramas.

April is considered a shit airing slot, especially for xianxias which rely on students on break. Almost all of the top shows in previous years aired during summer or winter holidays. The #1 show in 2022 aired in Nov-Dec, but that was when everyone in China was stuck at home with Covid...

TV viewership has been on the decline with share of attention shifted to short form content and other forms of entertainment. Since 2019 there have been very few mega hits at the same level of Eternal Love or Yanxi Palace until Knockout came along. Very few costume dramas are able to land a coveted TV slot, and web dramas now tend to air on one instead of multiple platforms.

Therefore, most of the data observers thought that 35-40M would be a win and 50-60M near impossible. It's fun to see people bumping up old posts/polls to see how far off predictions were (especially when commenters start backtracking and raising the bar for an explosive hit.) Most people, like myself, benchmarked against Youku's 2022 xianxias: Blue Whisper (37M) and Immortal Samsara (36M). Both featured dual dinglius and the latter aired during the summer.

There are also a few other things stacked against TTEOTM's playback numbers:

Yunhe is affiliated with iQiyi (created to provide data to advertisers). It tends to discount views more harshly when it comes to Youku & Tencent dramas.

Youku has weaker "long-tail" effect again due to its smaller default user base. The drama is bringing users to the platform, not the other way around. After the big promotional push and buzz dies down, it's harder for new viewers to discover the show.

Immediately after TTEOTM finished airing, Youku pushed users towards Back from the Brink and stopped promoting TTEOTM on its main page.

In fact, Youku locked most episodes unusually quickly (such that people have to purchase VIP to watch older episodes) and only unlocked it for the last few days of the airing period. (Some fans argue it's because TTEOTM is a "copyright" drama. This means Youku only has the airing rights and may even have to pay Otter a bonus for high playback volume)

That's why it's a pretty exciting/shocking that TTEOTM is now just behind Ashes of Love, which aired during the summer on all 3 platforms and 2 TV channels back in the heyday of 2018. (Basically we just love watching LYX being bullied and spitting blood)

3. Advertisement

A major income for platforms. Brands can place ads on specific shows (should be cheaper if you bet right) or pay for random, dynamic placement (you can tell based on whether the drama's title is on the ad itself). The earlier the brand buys in, the cheaper the rates, which I believe is a fixed amount based on production class. Often big IP, big stars, modern dramas get the most upfront, especially if the star brings in their own "brand daddies" (sorry, that sounds naughty).

Some shows start out with nothing, but as more and more people watch, advertisers place more ads in subsequent episodes. The opposite also happens. That's why it's also an indicator of how well the show is performing according to the industry. Advertisers have access to proprietary data and are putting a lot of money on the line.

TTEOTM has 27.6 seconds of ads per episode, 2nd highest of any costume drama in 2023

This includes 26 brands, highest of any xianxia drama in 3 years

It is only one of 12 dramas this year so far with ads in every single episode

Big brands like Huaiwei and Master Kong placed ads as the show progressed, with ad time peaking in episodes 26-30. This is a big stamp of approval from advertisers.

Beyond being supplementary income (more here), this is also an indicator of fan engagement. Expect this to become bigger going forward as platforms perfect the process of commercializing IP and fusing e-commerce with entertainment.

TTEOTM has broken the merchandise sales record for TV shows, selling >25M RMB to date (this number does not include Shi Shan Yu costumes and other co-branded products like the ice cream, video game, and photography studio)

>10M RMB came from the bracelets alone, with 3M RMB worth of Ancient Demon God bracelets sold within 24 hours (it's likely a new record but no one has kept track before)

Baizhi (Baidu search, equivalent to Google): Heat index of 790K, highest of any xianxia in the last few years. TTEOTM is also #5 drama in 2022-23 combined, behind Knockout (1894K), Sword Snow Stride (936K) (both aired on CCTV), Dream of Splendor (913K), and Reset (892K)

Weixin Index (WeChat, equivalent to Facebook & Whatsapp): Peak heat index of 166M, #1 drama in 2023 (even in front of Knockout) and highest of any xianxia or costume idol drama in the last few years. (Note Weixin is owned by Tencent)

Baike Page Visits (Wikipedia): A bit random, but if you take it at face value, it's just how many people have heard about the show and looked it up. A good indicator for general awareness. Note that this is cumulative so we cannot fairly compare across years. TTEOTM is #1 costume drama (likely #2 overall) 2023 and even ahead of some of the dramas from previous years

8. Tourism GDP

Finally, people are starting to look at tourism GDP as TTEOTM unintentionally generated a lot of interest in Bengbu (literally "clam town"), which has sculptures related to Mingye and Sangjiu. According to the local government, Bengbu gained an incremental 1.5B RMB in tourism GDP during the May 1 holidays thanks to interest from TTEOTM fans. That made laugh🤣🤣I'm sorry, who am I to judge? I honestly don't remember a lot either, I guess we were all too young when we celebrated Shichi-Go-San 😂 I wonder if we should increase the age of celebration from 7(Shichi), 5(Go) and 3(San) to 12 and 15. *laughs* This way, it would be much more memorable 😂 Of course there were also some people who said that they remembered everything perfectly. Some of you mentioned that you remember crying a lot. Very relatable to be honest~ *laughs*

As a small gift to everyone whose message I read in the podcast, I made a handmade glass deco sticker of Shark-chan!\\٩( 'ω' )و // I had a vague idea that a sticker would be a good gift to give as a thank you, so after doing some research, I finally decided on these glass deco stickers! This is the completed set of my Shark-chan glass deco sticker🦈🦈🦈🦈💕A small gift! You can draw whatever picture you like on the film sheet by using the paint, then let it dry and it's done. It takes about 8 hours to dry the whole thing, but I let it dry for about two days just to be sure. Shark-chan is being mass-produced... (I also made one with some odd colouring.) When I tried sticking it on my Mac, the shark looked a bit wrinkled. But these are so much fun to make! 😳✨The glass deco paint is released by the same company that makes the popular Arabic Yamato glue. According to the official description, magical paint is a mixture of paint and glue that turns into colourful and shining stickers and looks like stained glass after drying😊 I didn't know about the existence of these stickers at all until I researched it but they seem to be quite popular😳When I went to Daiso, they also sold paint for this 😳From now on, I want to try more different kinds of drawings! ! \\٩( 'ω' )و // So, everyone whose message I read, please wait patiently for your Shark-chan sticker to arrive!

Haruka Fukuhara and Eiji Akaso interview after the marriage of their roles in Maiagare.

How did you feel about Mai and Takashi's marriage?

Haruka Fukuhara: Until now, there has always been a sense of security in Mai and Takashi's scenes, and I felt that the same atmosphere was flowing between them. Mai has been supported by Takashi-kun since she was little, and they are indispensable to each other. However, when I actually filmed the scenes related to marriage, I realized that Takashi-kun was such an important person to Mai that she thought, "If I had this person, I would be fine." Once again, I thought I was really happy to meet you.

Eiji Akaso: I heard that he was going to marry Mai-chan, but I was surprised to find out that he was already married in the script the week after I confessed. There wasn't a clear proposal scene, so I wondered if the confession in the park the week before was already a proposal. Good for you, Takashi.... I really appreciate it. The feelings that you have for Mai-chan are not like, but more like love. I think the line from Takashi to Mai-chan, "I've always liked you," is on the level of "I love you." Since when did you say "always", I intended to act while including my feelings, but how was it (laughs)?

Please tell us the impressive scene in today's broadcast (episode 97, week 21).

Haruka Fukuhara The wedding party was also impressive, but the most impressive thing was when I announced my marriage with Takashi in front of the Buddhist altar of my father (Katsunori Takahashi). When I thought that they would be delighted, I almost burst into tears. Mai's life was full of hardships, but finally being able to report this happy moment...! Dad is a big presence for Mai,

“Let’s be happy,” and cut the finger with Takashi-kun. I acted while thinking that she was pure and cute. I also tried a finger-snap version, but ended up slowly cutting my finger. But that feeling of grief became somewhat embarrassing, and Akaso-san and I ended up filming while being shy with each other (laughs).

Akaso Eiji-san : The finger cutting scene was really embarrassing (laughs). Finger cut, I don't remember the last time I did that. For example, if you were in your teens, you could do it, but it was embarrassing for Takashi and Mai, who had grown up on the night of their wedding, to slowly cut their fingers. What's more, the director of the production said, "Look at each other!", which made me even more embarrassed. During the rehearsal, we did a silly version of finger-cutting to hide our embarrassment, but that didn't work out. But I think it turned out to be a wonderful scene because we overcame that embarrassment.

What was the atmosphere like at the wedding party shoot?

Ms. Haruka Fukuhara : The cake knife is the first time in my life. I was a little flustered, but I was deeply moved by the wonderful wedding cake!

With the original cake you made, the rabbit Sumi-chan and the airplane, and the cookies from Takashi-kun's songbook are also handmade. After the shoot, we shared cookies with Akaso-san and Yamashita Mizuki-san (who plays Kurumi Mochizuki), and we also got a wedding cake. The cookies had loquat jam in them and were very tasty.

Eiji Akaso: On the shooting day of the party, I was able to talk with various people during the breaks, and it was a lot of fun. However, the venue was full of Mai-chan's friends! I was actually a little lonely without your friends (laughs). It's a wedding party, so I know the bride is the star. But everyone is looking at Mai-chan, and I don't make eye contact with anyone (laughs). Only my parents (Mr. Tomomitsu Yamaguchi, voice of Masaru Umezu, and Ms. Rie Kuwabatari, voice of Yukino) watched me and I felt their love.

It was my first experience cutting a wedding cake. It made me feel like, “Am I going to get married like this?” (laughs). The place that I thought would be cutevhere and the place that Mai-chan wanted to cut were a little different, and I thought to myself, "Ah, is that the right place?" (laughs).

After the milestone of marriage,

Are there any changes in your acting?

Haruka Fukuhara :My relationship with Takashi hasn't changed much even after I got married. But after getting married, Mai's desire to support Takashi-kun becomes stronger than ever. The difficulty and difficulty of composing a tanka is immeasurable for Mai, but even so, I want to be more close to Takashi-kun's heart, and I want to be a person that you can feel at ease with. I am acting.

Mr. Eiji Akaso :Takashi watches over Mai-chan with almost the same stance before and after marriage, but if I had to say, I think the distance to watch over her has become a little closer after marriage. Haruka Fukuhara Even when shooting, the atmosphere of the couple is really calm. The atmosphere is so gentle that you might wonder if they are actually grandpa and grandma! For Mai and Takashi-kun, this home is the place they hold their hearts, and it's the place where they can be themselves and feel the most at ease. As a husband, Takashi-kun is really kind, and I'm sure the viewers will be deeply moved, saying, "This is wonderful!" I would be happy if you could taste the atmosphere.

Eiji Akaso :Mai and Takashi are a married couple who each have their own jobs and are walking different paths. I think the highlight of the future will be how they support each other as a family. I'd like you to see what kind of distance we have and how we approach each other to follow each other. Also, please pay attention to Takashi, who does everything from cooking to other things. I'm doing my best to be a good husband (laughs).

I am a hyper rational, analytical person and because I'm super analytical I've also always had an innate ability to read people...I know everyone says that but I genuinely can. It's actually a running joke within my friend circle.

That said I want to just explain my journey into BTS and into this side of the fandom...So

I became a BTS fan right when Serendipity dropped. I was first obsessed with Jimin's beauty, voice, dancing, and then I fell in love with the group. I binged watched everything within a few weeks time and I distinctly remember the moment I went "hmm" regarding JM's and JKs interactions. I was watching AHL and there was something about JK's interactions in particular with JM that just tickled my spidery senses. It was his eyes...I can't describe it...it was just in his eyes whenever he looked t JM that made me go "hmm." From the Hanbok scene to the car scenes (when they cleaned airplanes). He also always followed so closely behind him. However, he was incredibly young during AHL, and I didn't know much about them still so I didn't really think too much about it.

However, the more I watched that "hmm" became stronger. There were two of JM & JK's video logs that increased my suspicion and again it came down to JK's eyes. There was one where JM was adjusting his hat and swiped his hand through his hair and JK just froze and then averted his eyes. It was super quick and subtle and I've literally never heard anyone in the fandom bring it up, but it caught my eye as my second "hmmm" moment. That said the more in the fandom I got the more I learned or was led to believe that, that was just JK. He was attentive to all members that way. However, no matter how hard I tried to see what everyone else was saying I didn't see it. Yes, Jk is a starer but I'm a starer and the way I stare at someone I like versus someone I'm supporting is completely different. But I still passively accepted the narrative.

The sort of straw that broke the camels back for me, at least regarding JK being at the very least physically attracted to JM was DNA comeback stage and Countdown. During Comeback stage "No Silver Spoon" performance JM lifts up his shirt to reveal his abs and JK whips his head around to see it...now as an analytical person I wanted to see if this was part of the routine and while it wasn't necessarily standard there were a few previous occasions in which JK did the "same" thing...the only difference this time was that JK almost missed his mark and kind of got lost in staring. That was a pretty big "HMM" for me but not as big as the countdown video where each member was asked what their favorite album song was. During this entire live, JK was zoned out...looked bored or tired. He stood far away from the camera. However, when JM was asked the question JK was fully attentive, even tried to move closer, and when JM sang a part of Serendipity "Geunyang geunyang" JK look like he melted...and he rubbed the back of his neck (nervously) and was so lost in staring at JM that it appeared that Suga had to bring him back to reality. To many that would have been very minor but it literally cemented my initial thoughts that JK was genuinely attracted to JM.

After that I watched every Vlive, interview, Bon Voyage, Run BTS, Bangtan BOMB etc. and

BV S1: "I want to share a bed with JM" comments from JK...in one of the episodes (behind the scenes) the members are standing on an escalator and JK spots a poster of what appears to be couple back hugging each other and JK blurts out something along the lines of "I wish I could be that way with my friend." The members (JM wasn't there) all start teasing him saying I'm your friend you can do that with me and JK shrugs them off and walks away quickly embarrassed....now that doesn't mean he was talking about JM it just made me go...hmmm

BV S2: footsies, bashful looks at each other...it was this season that actually cemented my belief that the attraction was mutual.

JKs Graduation car video when he started singing to JM that song about you were there when I first took off my uniform and JM got flustered and changed the subject.

The degree to which younger JK teased JM but then said " I only do it because I like you too much" and JM's facial expression fell (doesn't in itself prove anything but together it shows a bigger picture), he also was very specific about why he would date someone like JM--mentioning his beautiful eyes

The way JK would always find a way to bring JM's name into the convo: There was a RUN episode they went bungee jumping and the camera man asked JK what was the most exciting part of the day and JK said "trying to make JM say stop" or something like that. He had just done a thrilling activity that he loved but he chose that!?!?

The list goes on and on...

I was fairly convinced they were romantically involved within less then a month of finding out about BTS. This was without me ever watching a single fan made video. All original content. I didn't know what shipping was at the time either.

I went from 80% certain they were more than friends to like 99.9999% certain when I woke up to GCF Tokyo....I couldn't have been more certain after that. It was that video that made me lookup and see if anyone else was certain that they were a couple and I found this fandom and also learned about haters and the mass amount of people that get upset if you even think they are together. I genuinely didn't think it would be contested with how overtly romantic GCF Tokyo was but to my surprise it was more than rejected.

The level of denial actually made me very upset...because I didn't see how one could come to any other conclusion. People saying it was fan service...I researched what that meant and was even more shocked that fans could think GCFT was fan service.

I even looked into other "plausible" ships and I didn't get the same INTENSE sense that I got almost day one from Jikook. Like I saw chemistry in other ships and I wouldn't call their interactions fan service but I didn't feel romance or actual attraction. The same way I view JM in VM is how I view 99% of of other ships...super close friends tht have buttery eyes for each other but like buttery friendship eyes LOL.

I keep harping on the eyes because every emotion can be seen and read in someone's eyes...and JK has the most expressive face I've ever seen. That boy cannot hide a single emotion. His looks of admiration, anxiety, impress, love, attraction...you cn see it all. JM while still not too difficult to read...he's nowhere near as facially expressive and vulnerable as JK.

I don't just look at jikooks actions I look at everything and how they interact with each other is so different then how they interact with other members. They could do the same thing with another member and it feels and looks different then when tehy do it with each other. Their romantic chemistry is palpable.

Well sorry for the loooong behind rant. I am a lurker and no one really knows that I exist in this space...these are just thoughts I've held onto for a while and just wanted to release them. Also, if I have errors...apologies I wrote this all from memory...my memory of 2017.

Favorite Character: L was basically a "love at first sight" situation for me and the main reason I ever checked out the anime (I just really loved eccentric loner sad boys at the time and he just looked exactly up my alley at a glance, hahaha). And he has stayed extremely dear to me and my favourite cartoon guy ever basically since! I actually think Light is a bit more of a complicated/interesting character than L is to think about in-depth, and has become also kind of my favourite one in the series in a different way over time, but L is def the one that I was really obsessed with from the start.

Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: I love everything up until the Yotsuba arc the most I think, I just find it so much fun in the beginning of the story when everything is so well-written and so exciting and tense and fast-paced. The university arc stuff MIGHT be the part that I just find the most fun and funny in the way that Death Note is known to be, with all the detailed little mind games and bitch moves and shocking reveals every other page, ahahah. I remember laughing out loud so many times during that section of the story just due to how ridiculous it gets and how often everyone is pulling the rug out from under each other nearly constantly.

And my favourite scene is probably the "first ever friend" scene in the manga. I WILL NEVER STOP THINKING ABOUT IT it's just so funny and mysterious and intriguing and layered to me

Character I Think is Underrated: Mikami is fairly underrated, but at the same time I myself am not the best at intuitively understanding him or creating content about him either...

Character I Think is Overrated: Matt (sorry I actually like him in the manga, but I just don't think he's that interesting really)

Favorite Ship/Pairing: Lawlight! I never needed much convincing about this.... I went straight from watching the anime to going "omg they should have kissed..."

Something I Love About the Show/Movie: The anime's audio elements are just so iconic and so good a lot of the time! It makes some of the manga scenes SO MUCH better just with stuff like the gregorian chanting while Light's writing the names. And no lie, it's really easy to follow as a story without even seeing what's happening onscreen, too. I used to listen to the English dub while drawing or doing my work sometimes and it felt almost exactly like an audio play.

BERSERK:

Favorite Character: Guts is by far my favourite! Which was a total surprise to me, because I thought he was going to be a pretty boring macho action hero cardboard cutout type guy going in. I got very attached to him while reading the manga after a few volumes, and now he's one of my all-time faves...

Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: I'm going to be very basic and say The Golden Age, but IT'S JUST REALLY GOOD OKAY. It's better than good, it's the reason the series went from just "ok this is pretty interesting" to "OMG WTF THIS IS SO GOOD I'M SO INVESTED NOW"

And my favourite scene?? Hmm.... extremely hard question, but I feel like the sword fights between Guts and Griffith are definitely some of the peak moments. Their first one is iconic in so many ways, but the second one in the snow really got me in the feels and made my stomach drop and my heart beat a bit faster as well!

Character I Think is Underrated: I feel like Casca is just kinda hard to talk about with other fans. She's my second favourite character in the series, but I feel like it's just really difficult to discuss her without it just getting either depressing or into too sensitive territory or something? I love her dearly in the manga, but the fandom space here seems only much fun to talk about Guts and Griffith in for me

Character I Think is Overrated: I am not THAT well-versed in who is overrated or underrated in this fandom, but I feel like mostly almost all the characters aside from maybe Griffith and Guts are a bit underrated and under-explored in fan stuff that I've seen? That might be entirely on me and the fact that I'm mostly looking at griffguts stuff, though...

Favorite Ship/Pairing: griffguts drives so much of the angst and the drama and I think is basically canon to me at this point... I don't think it's hard to interpret Griffith as in love with Guts, but I also think Guts is in love with Griffith too in just a more furtive sort of way

Something I Love About the Show/Movie:

I only partially watched the 1997 anime so far, and the Guts theme song in it is so good! My god that's still such a good fitting song for him and his personality somehow. And I'd never actually heard it before I read the series either!
