Finding information on Jamila wasn't particularly easy, but from what I can gather...
(credit to @eepop-stuffs btw for getting her on my radar!)
Tumblr media
Jamila was first released in 2006 by Simba Toys Middle East. According to an article published upon her debut at the 2006 Middle East Toy Fair in Dubai, her prototype initially intended to include fashions representing Turkey, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. However, these concepts never made it to final release, and we unfortunately have no photos of what they would have looked like.
Tumblr media
Her initial lineup consisted of four dolls: herself, her male Arabic friend Jamil, her Indian friend Sunayana, and her Egyptian friend Kareema.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The name Jamila means "beautiful", and she seems to have only really been released with one outfit. She wore a black abaya with silver detailing with black shoes, and underneath wore a light blue tanktop with a white pencil skirt. Like her friends Sunayana and Kareema, Jamila has dark hair, brown eyes, and henna on her hands and feet.
(Credit to Bababolond on Flickr for the images)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those unaware, Henna is a form of body decoration which originated from Africa and the Middle East, used with a natural dye from the Mehendi (lawsonia inermis). It is commonly tied to religious ceremonies such as engagements, weddings, Diwali, and Eid!
For Eid Al-Fitr, Henna would be applied towards the end of Ramadan as a symbol of the earthly delight of being alive. Jamila (and Sunayana if we're to believe they had identical Henna) seems to have eye imagery in hers, which represents protection from evil thoughts or wishes. It's also found on the top of her hands, also symbolizing protection, and on her feet, meant to soothe the nerves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The name Jamil means "handsome". Jamil was initially released clean-shaven, but it seems later releases gave him facial hair. This might have been around the same time he was changed from Jamila's male friend to her husband, likely because (although opposite-sex friendships aren't explicitly forbidden) certain Muslims worry such friendships might result in inappropriate romantic thoughts. While this doesn't seem to be a unanimous belief across the board (many believing opposite-sex friendships are fine so long as you're careful), it might have caused enough controversy that Simba felt the need to marry the two so there weren't any implications. (Credit to Jan Unwichtig and Bababolond on Flickr for the images)
Ngl tho he is giving me major Kenergy...
Tumblr media
Jamil comes with a white Thobe with silver buttons, a white Serwal ( undergarments traditionally worn beneath the Thobe), a white cotton undershirt, a white headscarf known as a Ghutra (tied with a black band called the Egal), black sandals, and a small dagger.
I'm actually not sure why his doll comes with a knife? The closest I could find was the Kirpan: a knife or sword which serves as a reminder to promote justice and protect the weak, mandatory for Amritdhari Sikhs to wear at all times. However, although non-Muslims sometimes confuse the two, Sikhism is a completely separate religion from Islam.
If anyone knows what this knife might be intended to represent, please let me know and I'll reblog an edit to this post!
Tumblr media
After they were married, Jamila and Jamil had two children: Asad (meaning "Lion") and Almira (meaning "Princess"), both seen in the first illustration on this post. However, I can only seem to find one doll release for their daughter Almira, and none for Asad. Jamila comes in this playset in her base outfit, while her daughter (who cries when you press her stomach) wears pink pajamas. The playset includes a crib and several plastic accessories, including two hair brushes, a blow drier, and a baby bottle. Not only is this only release for Almira, but this also seems to be the only other release for Jamila aside from her initial core doll.
Tumblr media
Sunayana means "woman with lovely eyes". She has long braided black hair, wearing a blue Lehenga Choli with a yellow Dupatta. Like Jamila, she also has henna on her hands and feet. She wears silver bangles, a silver necklace, and what I believe might be a Maang Tikka. Based on her images on the back of the doll boxes, I'm fairly certain she came wearing yellow sandal heels as well!
Honestly she might be one of my favorites of the line, since you sadly don't see many culturally-accurate Indian dolls compared to other ethnic groups. I especially love the use of color, and just how much jewelry she comes with!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally we have Jamila's Egyptian friend Kareema, whose name means "generous" or "kind". She has pale pink undergarments painted on beneath her clothes, which I assume Jamila has as well. Weirdly enough, however, she doesn't seem to have Henna like the other two.
Like Sunayana and Jamila she has long black hair, which is kept beneath a white hijab. She wears a long blue overcoat, matching jeans, blue shoes, and a multicolored striped shirt. As far as I can tell, her clothing doesn't seem to have Egyptian cultural roots like Sunayana's has Indian, however her modest style of dress and hijab are common for most Muslim women.
I've been meaning to make this post for at least a full week, and it's nice to finally get to share another beautiful yet obscure Muslim doll! It's a shame this doll didn't have more releases, since I'm honestly curious with the direction the might have taken with her and her friends based on the prior illustration! Regardless, I'm happy I got to share her and her friends with you all :)
Ramadan Kareem!

background
Amirah was born in Jakarta to an Indonesian mother and a Lebanese father, who had met some time after both going through amicable divorces with their first spousesโ€”bringing their children from those marriages into their family. For the first few years of her life, Ames and her older siblings travelled extensively with their parents before moving back to the United States when she was six years old. They chose to settle in Huntsville, mainly to be close to the Lovejoys, who were old friends of theirs.
When Ames started showing an interest in beauty pageants, her parents were initially skeptical but ultimately supportive, paying for dresses, dance classes, and driving her to pageants out of town regularly. She had a couple of titles under her belt when all of that came to a crashing halt due to the paradox hitting when she was almost twelve years old. While saddened, she immediately redirected her energy into other interests and extracurricular activities, in particular illustrationโ€”eventually starting her own graphic novel featuring herself and her closest friends as a band of superheroes.
After graduating from high school, she got a job at the local paper which gave her access to their printer (it's her, she is their printer). Most of her time not spent at work or with her friends is now spent working on her book, which she mostly distributes digitally to her friends as well as anyone else who wants to read it, with the occasional print copy of certain issues gifted to various Huntsville residents whenever they serve as the inspiration of a recurring character. It isn't the life that she wanted, but she is doing her best to make it one that she enjoys, in spite of their circumstances.
misc
Her graphic novel series is called The Phantom Guardians and features a main cast of five based on the Five-Man Band trope: Spencer Holmes as The Leader, Izzie Lovejoy as The Heart, Satine Hicks as The Big Guy, Riley Alson as The Smart Guy, and herself as The Lancer. She started writing it after Riley passed as a way to help her cope with the grief. In her story, Riley retired from being a hero and went on to chase her dreams, while the remaining four carry on her legacy.

hiiii, iโ€™ve been obsessed with your winx rewrite for awhile now and i think itโ€™s so cool especially the naerys system! could you tell me more about the planet myrari before it had been destroyed? and if you donโ€™t mind me asking what app do you use to make your art on the characters and the realm flags?
first of all, thank you for the compliment!
I'll ask the second question first - I use SAI2 for most of my work, dipping into Adobe Illustrator for stuff like the flags and some of the weapons, though not all of them.
I've intentionally kept Myrari as vague as possible as it's supposed to be more of a point of origin for Myraria/the Ancestral Witches than anything else, but what I can say beyond it once called "The Planet of Eternal War" (nowadays the Planet of the Eternal Curse, as it's almost impossible to reach it anymore) is that it was very lush - the amount of completely unique flora and fauna in the planet was outstanding, up to having species that had been long extinct in the rest of the system and even Earth.
It had five realms in it - Almira, Trinat, Vaccio, Sitra and the Nowhere Realm, formerly Parai, the geographical center of the planet and from where the AW originate. Each realm was at war with each other to gain control of the Nowhere Realm for their gain, as the recent loss of their entire monarchy had left it ripe for the picking. Once the war got bad enough many people escaped the planet, and those that remained were eradicated once the AW fused into Myraria and essentially nuclear-bombed the whole place to end the war.
The Myrarian Collapse, as it was called later, was so sudden and abrupt that there wasn't any time to preserve any information or history of the planet beyond the few refugees that escaped, and over time, with only being able to pass it down orally, the information warped, leading to almost no actual information on what the planet was like beyond the basics.
Myrari has three moons - Nyxe, Dormae and Obsidia, the latter of the three being the biggest. If the name sounds familiar, that's because that's where the Thanatix Coven was located, and why it was so hard to find and subdue them all those years ago.
As for what Sources it was aligned with, Almira was aligned with Light and Poison, Trinat with Water and Earth, Vaccio with Darkness and Healing, Sitra with Fire and Metal, and Parai with Flora and Fauna.
The other notable aspect of Myrari, and Parai specifically, is that it housed the only known Shrine of the Void Ethereal (will be reworking the Ethereals soon so you get a sneak-peek of that here lol).

Can't think of a name for this maiden feline, but I'm sure you're going to see more of her in the future.
DISCLAIMER: Rose frame belongs to SNOW app. I do not intend to claim it as my own nor use it in the final illustration.

Ok so some #realtalk. I was having an off day today... And I was so out of it that I ended up getting a scolding from my day job. You know when you have those days that you just can't seem to do things right, you scamper trying to fix things and then the elements surrounding you turn against you? It was one of those days for me, and it gets worse while this pandemic is going on. So instead of wallowing in self loathing like I usually do, I picked up my tablet the soonest my day job ended and poured hours and hours into my art, because a senpai once told me that they capitalized on negative emotions to make something, and make something I did. And so moving forward, I just need to get my crap together and be (more) focused. Because that's all I can really do, really. When I am sad, I often draw calm, happy girls. Maybe it's because that's the kind of person I long to be. Calm, but happy, skipping beneath the sun without a care in the world. Now I'm worried, because of the Opera. Annabelle asks why would she stab hey lover?
Oh, I think that entire opera itself was picked in the narrative on purpose. The show the characters are watching is the first known operatic work of Handel, a famous German composer. Itโ€™s called Almira, and there are parallels between the story of this fictional Spanish queen and that of the MCโ€™s in D&D.
Why would Annabelle particularly point out the plot point where Almira tries to save her lover Fernando by grabbing/stealing her betrothed Osmanโ€™s dagger? I donโ€™t know yet. Perhaps not in a literal sense, but perhaps we may end up engaged to the Duke (yuck) and having to ensure our loved ones are safe in case the Duke suspects something. Maybe, maybe not. But itโ€™s interesting that THIS opera is the one they all get to see this chapter, and THIS scene is the one that gets highlighted. But donโ€™t worry, the ending of that story is quite happy with a triple marriage and the Queen discovering she can both marry her lover and keep her word to her father.
This is perhaps the third time Iโ€™m seeing an opera sequence being used as a parallel for the larger story in a Choices book, and Iโ€™m living for it! ๐Ÿ˜€ In TRR 2, Mozartโ€™s The Magic Flute was used to explore the Liam x MC love story, specifically the themes of conquering all opposition to come together and the triumph of their love. In PM, Pucciniโ€™s La Boheme was used to illustrate how little time the characters (in this case, Hayden and the MC if the latter was romancing the former) had left to bask in the โ€œnormalityโ€ of their romance. Similarly, over here Almiraโ€™s story feels like it has pretty strong parallels to that of the MCโ€™s.

-2nd Assignment-
...RELATION OF INTERNET & WWW...
Tumblr media
Internet
is being used by most, if not all people in the world as one of the mainstream of communicating with one another. Communication with the use of internet made people an easy way of imparting information or ideas through the usage of world wide web. With these two connected and needed each other so that people are able to access any of the platforms used nowadays.
->Sailah Carrasco
The Internet is connected computer network on which the site operates. While, the world wide web (WWW) is in a device and online to search and open pages. So, my explanation in analyzing the picture above, is that the internet is like a machine for the world wide web to operate it so that we can access and browse different pages.
->Ma. Jessy Nicole Mangubat
The Internet is a global infrastructure that links the world's computer networks. The devices are linked via copper wires, wireless networks or optical fiber. There are many networks, including servers, routers, hubs, switches, repeaters and much more in this network. And with the help of the internet, we are able to communicate with our family relatives and socialize with the other people. While on the other hand the World Wide Web (or also known as WWW) is a web-based service. It refers to the comprehensive network link. With the help of these link the user can then easily access the details from one page to another.
->Emarida Olimpain
Theโ€ฏInternetโ€ฏis an increasingly important part of everyday life for people around the world.โ€ฏInternet is a collection of connected computers through gateways by which the information that is stored in databases and on servers is transferred from one computer to another and the World Wide Web is the software that is used to retrieve the information requested by the users.โ€ฏ The World Wide Web (which we call the Web because weโ€™re lazy typists) lives โ€œon top ofโ€ the Internet. The Internetโ€™s network is at the core of the Web, and the Web is like an attractive parasite that requires the Net for survival (dummies.com, 2010).โ€ฏ The Web page that are accessible on the web usually contain hypertext links and are sometimes called links. These links connect to other pages that are store on the same or even a different server; these servers can be in any location throughout the World.โ€ฏ This system of interlinked documents is known as hypertext.
->Almira Pagsuyuin
Internet is essential especially nowadays that we are using this for educational purposes, to do research and gather different kinds of information, attend online class and to broaden/gain more knowledge about various things. This also used for our business as we can use this to promote and even advertise our own product on any social media platforms as some people are relying in feedbacks of other people. In addition, we can also use internet to effectively communicate with other people in an inexpensive way.
->Leizl Joy Ricafort
For me, this illustration means that there us a relationship between the internet and the world wide web (WWW), and it is that the internet is a collections of connected computers through gateways by which information that is stored in databases and on servers is transferred from one computer to another and the world wide web (WWW) is the software that is used to retrieve the information requested by the users.
->Kate Red
Internet open connection in the user to connect in world wide web which contains data and information to facilitate the communication networks of computers. World wide web also contains network that needs internet access for us to brows different webpages, addition to that it was developed for automated information sharing like what I am doing right now. By analyzing in the picture above, internet is the heart of the world wide web for it to be function well and connect the user between the computers.
->Elaine Taniegra
The internet become in demand nowadays specially in the distance learning. The internet allows us, the students, to access the websites and application software like MS Teams to accomplish our online classes. It is also important because internet is needed to search information and data in the any websites. It allows us to communicate to other people from any part of the world.
->Jhovelle Villapando
