Crafting update: I have discovered I am probably mildly allergic to Thin Mints but only after allergy-ing myself multiple days in a row* so I have had multiple daytime benadryl for multiple days so I am not functioning super great, which led to today's attempt to draft a new pattern I was trying to make a crow and I solved a plushie construction issue that's been a problem for me for four years without measuring anything or remembering to add a seam allowance to the extra bit, but somehow made the head like two sizes too small? I'll fix it tomorrow lol *less ridiculous than it sounds, because I can apparentely tolerate some Thin Mints but not a lot of Thin Mints so I did not react the first few days

I don't know if you have received this ask or have a hc, but do you think the rest of the Burns family is allergic to something just like in the cases of Graham (cats) and Kade (bees)?

I guess that it would be weird if they all were allergic to something different...

I’d like to think Cody probably has Kade’s wasp allergy as well, but not Dani since she was with Kade in that episode when he freaked out about them. (Graham might’ve also been in that scene? I don’t remember.)

I think Kade and Cody share it because I would think it’s rare of 4 biological kids to only have one of them have it.

Although it is canon Graham is the only of them with a cat allergy, but hey, genetics are weird sometimes.

Maybe Graham got his allergy from his mom, maybe he got it from her parents, his grandparents. That would make it make more sense that he only got it by chance. Charlie talks about his grandfather enough times, I think if the cat allergy came from his lineage, he would have mentioned it.

I think the wasp allergy also has to come from their mothers side. Charlie’s never bothered by wasps and Woodrow was in the scene where Kade freaked out about them, so he most likely doesn’t have that allergy either. Charlie also has never mentioned his grandfather having a wasp allergy.

So, like the cat allergy, maybe it came from Mama Burns, maybe it came from her parents, their grandparents.

I’d personally headcanon one of Mama Burns’ parents had a cat allergy, which skipped her and by happenstance got to Graham. And that Mama Burns had a wasp allergy, which was passed down to her oldest and youngest child.

As for any other allergy? I don’t know. Plenty of people have very mild allergies that they don’t talk about, or reduce to seasonal allergies, which are mostly just an annoyance. As a rescue team, I think if they had any deadly allergies, there would definitely be an episode about it.

Also with how much Woodrow has gone through and explored he might be invincible lmao -He certainly would build up the tolerance to many things, which would help his future lineage if he ever had kids (which I doubt he would).

but the things i am allergic to taste so good :( even now, i STILL miss candy and nutella and my ability to consume types of dairy is very hit or miss.

i have a huge sweet tooth and my favorite flavor profiles are sweet, umami, salty and whatever cheese is (i have been told pungent? i thought it was also umami?) and it's been so hard trying to find things i can eat that replace that that sometimes the cravings just. win. and i eat something i am allergic to :( very sad, please dunk on me until i get this through my thick skull

Elliott laid a hand on Felix’s trembling back as he coughed. The sounds were absolutely wretched, and were quickly swallowed up by the forest.

“Are you quite alright?” Elliott couldn’t hide the alarm from his voice.

Felix smiled up, weakly, his eyes red and watering. He rubbed at his nose and cleared his throat. “Seasonal allergies, darling. Don’t worry about me.”

“Allergies,” Elliott muttered. “Vampires shouldn’t have allergies. Even half-vampires.”

Felix rubbed the palm of his hand against his breastbone. “I’m a little bit different, maybe.”

Elliott frowned and scratched the top of Felix’s head. “Yeah. I suppose you are.”

Eyeing the ingredients on a pack of Percy Pigs and wondering if it’d be worth risking it...

Like most of the ingredients are low histamine (except the massive amounts of citric acid), I might be fine with it... Maybe...

(for context: these are my favorite candies. I ate them all the time back home before developing full-blown MCAS. I miss them.)

Another weird question for y'all: If you are moderately allergic* to a thing and had been eating it anyway for years because you didn't know, and then when you figure out what you're allergic to you quit eating it at all, can you lose your ability to tolerate even a little bit of it? *a phrase which here means "probably severely allergic but can tolerate small amounts when on antihistamines"

So it’s canon that Graham is allergic to cats and Kade is allergic to wasp sting.

It’s odd then that none of the other characters in the family seem to have these allergies, or at least it’s not mentioned.

We know Graham is the only one who has a cat allergy because the others have interacted with Mr. Petty Paws and been fine.

They probably got these allergies from their mom, which would explain why Charlie doesn’t have them, but do you think Dani, Graham, and Cody have wasp allergies like Kade?

Maybe Kade just has the most severe reaction (?)

Ooh, nice question.

I originally started out thinking I'd make Shayne lactose intolerant, but that just seems a little mean on top of everything else he's had to deal with. So instead he's just kind of sensitive to a lot of dairy and avoids it when he can.

I know you mentioned her already but Ryan's weakness to garlic could be classed as an allergy, I guess, since she can have a reaction just from kissing Nancy after she eats it, a la this fic. #JustVampireThings

Rin has a number of food texture aversions that have the potential to make her sick, if that counts.

Asher used to be vegan for a long time, so his system has trouble processing meat and dairy products if/when he ingests them.

Kazu would also potentially struggle to deal with diet changes if he was visiting the west for a long time. Same would go for Mitsuko.

Payton has a rather delicate stomach, despite also having a pretty big appetite. They don't do very well with greasy food (there's a fic in which their bad eating habits leave them with an upset stomach), or with spicy food, which they tend to avoid at all costs.

I'm pretty open to considering suggestions for tropes that you guys would like to see, especially since I have a number of new OCs in the works.
