SUMMARY: A research team in Antarctica is hunted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of its victims.
This is another one of the mod’s favourite horror movies, it is so tense and unsettling, it’s great.

THE THING (1982)
Tumblr media
One of the best alien movies of all time, and I'll stand by that till I die. The opening gives a really nice mysterious vibe, and the action doesn't stop till the credits roll. The suspense throughout the film really sets an air of intense distrust and despair. How can you really fight against something that mimics everything you know perfectly? I loved how Blair wigged out and was sent to the timeout shed to calm the hell down because I probably would pull the same shit had I been in the same situation. Like lock me in the timeout shed with my vodka, and I'd be having a time. Clark is my favorite because all he cares about is his precious doggies, and that's a hero to me. The special effects and makeup were way ahead of its time, creating a gruesome monster that still holds up today as terrifying. The ambiguous ending leaves the watcher with a terrible sense of dread that you don't get as often these days. Overall 10/10 film

Horror Movie of the Day: Nope (2022)
I will throw filth at you
    and treat you with contempt
    and make you a spectacle.
Nahum 3:6
The history of animals in film is a long and illustrious one, as in fact, the very first experiment with cameras that could be considered a motion picture was a jockey riding a horse photographed by Eadweard James Muybridge. Something the Haywood siblings OJ and Emerald will remind you with gusto, since their father Otis founded a ranch that provides trained horses as the self proclaimed descendant of that jockey. Or at least, he did until his untimely death victim of a mysterious freak accident.
With the family business in jeopardy, OJ chooses to sell the horses to a former child star called Ricky "Jupe" Park , who was involved in an incident with a chimpanzee. That is, until they stumble upon something strange on the night sky, frightening enough to make the horses run in terror. And along with it, the opportunity to make it big appears.
That is, if what's there doesn't get them first.
Back to Jordan Peele’s eccentric filmography, this is probably the weirdest of them all but also probably his most naked in his love for cinema, which is one of his biggest strengths. It might sound obvious for a movie director, but in this case that translates to a rich visual language full of references to so many different works and genres, both overt and subtle. Yet, it's not unconditional love either: the criticism about Hollywood's poor animal welfare (a real problem during the Western craze up to the 60's) and the tendency of profiting on sensationalizing others' misery is front and center to drive most of the conflict.
It's somehow a riveting, unashamed western while still being viscerally horrifying with one of the oldest horror tricks getting an effective new coat of paint. Satirizing human arrogance, greed, stupidity and stubbornness it's another ace in the hole, and probably my favorite work of Peele's so far.

SUMMARY: A teen gang in South London defend their block from an alien invasion.
The mod hasn't seen this but wants to based on the premise alone (it's also set on Guy Fawkes' Night which is great).

Loosing my head currently; I’ve been trying and trying in vain to find this old webcomic? from several several years ago (Or it might have been a short animation…) about a group of astronauts investigating a dead spaceship that has no power to it so they use flashlights to get around.
Anyways, they end up finding a ‘survivor’ but he’s weird and won’t take off his helmet and keeps saying weird stilted sentences.
This goes on for some time and the group splits up to look for more survivors and can’t find any, so they regroup and now the one guy that was with the only survivor is acting strange and he doesn’t want to take his helmet off either now.
And they are kinda suspicious at this point but keep looking around and the pov switches to a new pair looking around, except it’s also got the teammate that’s acting funny suddenly. He’s only responding on his comms with words like “Yeah…” or “Check your helmet.” Or “These things ain’t natural.” Over and over again to any question or response they say.
So the guys are like ‘yo wtf is wrong with you? Why are you being all sketchy and telling us to take our helmets off now?’ and neither the sketchy teammate or the survivor say anything, so one person gets fed up with this and fights them and takes off their helmet and there’s nothing but like a clearly dead skeleton inside??
But the voice of the person is still talking over the comms but they’re dead! And it’s incredibly creepy and the living astronauts gtfo, and that’s all I can really remember other than the buildup to the twist was really well done. And for the life of me I cannot find this artwork and it’s killing me aaaaaaaaaAAAAAA
