there is venom on your tongue and clogged in your throat, you think you could choke on it. frustrated tears run down your face and there's nothing you can do. you can't save the only person you want to save. you cannot help him. you cannot save him and you cannot die for him and the knowledge of it burns on your tongue. it feels like failure. it feels like hatred. you didn't know a hatred this heavy before. a hatred that weighs on your every movement. a hatred trapped in your throat, a scream nestled underneath your chin. trembling lips and teary eyes and clenched fists that only barely mask their shaking. you thought you knew hate before. you didn't.

he tells you that you threw a mug at his head. you don't remember that, and he tells you that's on purpose. what else did you take? you think, almost exhausted with the weight of it. what else did you fucking take?

there's a one way mirror between you and your husband. somehow that distance feels immeasurable, like looking at him from across the world. there's an ache in your chest that you can't get rid of. a longing for something that will never be yours again. you can feel a scream building in your throat. it comes out as a whimper. it feels like missing a step on the stairs, it feels like falling with the knowledge that there is nothing left to catch you, it feels like the pieces of yourself were slipping out of place. it feels a little like dying. it feels a little like being torn apart. anyways. haha. hows your morning

so one thing that really gets to me is the difference in the way that Mike/Mikey treats his younger selves versus the way Michael treats them. Mike/Mikey lash out, bitterly hurling insults that sound no different from his inner monologue, calling him(self) a coward for not dying.

Michael treats them with kindness, affection and a scary amount of protectiveness, more mother bear than sheepdog. he's so proud whenever his younger selves do something that surpasses what he'd done when he was their age. he's happy to spend time with his "younger brothers", as he calls them, and is delighted whenever they reciprocate by making the first move to spend time with him.

just having lots of thoughts and feelings about Michael's path to learning to love himself. literally reparenting.

In the Bad Timeline Future, Leo tries to get tot Casey to go to bed. He finally gets him to agree if Leo tells him a bedtime story. Leo tells him the story of when he and Raphael were kidnapped by a dentist…

Back before Leo became the leader, he and Raph were out in the woods visiting the puppiest place on earth while Todd was busy in Alaska with his lemonade donations. The two are suddenly attacked and captured by the dentists who take them to Doctor Noe’s personal mansion on an island. Meanwhile, Todd’s puppies tell the squirrels to tell the birds to tell a sewer rat to go find Mikey and Donnie and get them to rescue their brothers. The PBJ duo follow the trail. Raph and Leo wake up inside the mansion where Doctor Noe has prepared an elaborate game for them: they must try to evade and escape him, and he will hunt them down to take Raph’s snaggle tooth. The two fight over what to do at first, and split up. Both plans go wrong because they require a partner to help, and they end up running into each other again. They decide to work together to find a way out. Meanwhile, Mikey and Donnie do their best to evade the tooth fairies, and eventually find a way to break in. However, whilst looking for their brothers they are found by Doctor Noe, who takes them hostage. Raph and Leo get a message that Mikey and Donnie are kidnapped, and the bros decide to go on the offensive and rescue them. They set up a trap and fake the trade-off, rescuing Mikey and Donnie and escaping from the dentists, and in the confusion Doctor Noe gets all his teeth shattered and cries because physical comedy.

The story finished, Leo tucks Casey in. CJ asks where Raph is now, and Leo explains that he’s with Splinter and Karai, watching over them like he always did. Casey asks if he’s with his mom too, and Leo sadly nods. Casey asks if he will ever see Raphael or his mom again, and Leo says “maybe one day”. He leaves Casey for the night, pulls out the picture of April’s graduation, and cries.

Casey Jr headcanons

So I don’t know about y’all but I love that Casey Jr stuck around. Because that means that he gets to have a childhood. When Casey was young and in need of a bedtime story the group would tell him all the things they used to do when they were his age. And they come up with this list of things that Casey could do when they defeat the Kraang. And even though it’s a bittersweet conversation it still gives the group hope.

So for a long time, Casey just has this mental list of things he wants to experience. And he didn’t bring up said list until he was sent to the past. And the group writes down his little bucket list and is determined to complete it. There are little things like him wanting to see fireflies for the first time because Mikey described them as “Magical”. He wants to see stars because he had only ever heard stories about them. And how he always wanted to learn how to skateboard but the group never taught him.

And Leo is the perfect person to complete this list with. Casey wants to see fireflies for the first time. He blinks and next thing you know they’ve teleported to a field full of them. He mentions the fact that he’s never seen stars and Leo one-ups him and takes him to Alaska where he can see the aurora borealis and shooting stars. 

When the group found out that Casey didn’t know how to skateboard they almost fainted (Leo cried a little bit). And they decided to right this wrong immediately. It’s a very interesting experience, to say the least (by the end of it Casey knows why the boys never taught him). 

There are some more small things like Casey not knowing how to swim and the fact that he had never been camping before. When he tells the group that he doesn’t know how to swim they gave him some swimming lessons (Casey almost drowned multiple times (if April wasn’t there he would have died)). Mikey mentions he wants to go camping and they realize that Casey’s never been (cause sleeping outside after your shelter got blown up by the Kraang isn’t camping Casey). And Leo teleports everyone to the woods with their camping gear. When did Leo have time to grab their gear? Who knows. Don’t ask questions just eat your s’more!

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #142-144

AUGUST - OCTOBER 2023

By Sophie Campbell, Kevin Eastman, Gavin Smith, Ronda Pattison, and Shawn Lee.

The Turtles have a final showdown against Barlow and then follow their own paths.

SCORE: 7

While reading these issues I felt that something was missing. I don't like falling for "borrowed" opinions, but I do feel like there are just too many characters in this book and not enough development.

This isn't just a Sophie Campbell problem, I feel like Tom Waltz also struggles with the size of this universe. So what I feel needs to happen, is something that can give all the characters their own space in this world, with their own motivations. This is something that usually works well at the big two publishers (at least until they forget what they were trying to do).

In any case, many things happen in these issues, not only is the end of Barlow, but also the return of Groundchuck and Dirtbag, now as one being. They die again.

The arc also seems to close all the loose ends from Venus' origin and Leatherhead's posession.

By the end of the saga, as I predicted, several characters went their ways. This is actually great in terms of separating the huge cast.

Alopex and the weasels leave for Alaska (I am sure they'll return, or at least, Raph will see them again).

Raph goes on a road trip with his bike.

Donnie and Venus stay studying the whole Armaggon thing.

Mikey and Jennika stay in the city.

Leo returns to Northampton (Donnie will join him later).

I am sure this won't last long...

As for the art, I like Gavin Smith, but I am not particularly fond of his Venus. Her eyes are too big and her... breasts... are there. Since Venus is technically not a Turtle, I guess that is why she "has them", but it is a little confusing... frogs are not mammals... am I thinking too much about this?

WOE.BEGONE Episode Summaries, Season 6

Major spoilers for seasons 1-5 and vague spoilers for season 6.

Ep. 61: letters. Mikey writes a series of letters to Edgar, explaining what happened after Hunter transported him and how he ended up in the unspecified terrible situation he is in now.

Ep. 62: high seas. Mike and Michael miraculously end up on a boat in the Gulf of Alaska, albeit without a calculator or a cowboy hat.

Ep. 63: hunger. While imprisoned at the Flinchite compound once again, Mikey finds a series of letters supposedly from himself, which he does not remember writing.

Ep. 64: uninhabited. Mike's attempts to keep his and Michael's situation secret end with them being left stranded on an island.

Ep. 65: double knot. Mikey, Mike, and Michael piece together what they know over hamburgers. Michael briefly transports back to Alaska to tie up a loose end.

Ep. 66: bruno. While spending a day with their landlord's dog, the Mikes start making a plan to undo the events that got everyone killed.

Ep. 67: ramifications. The Mikes go back to the day they first snuck into Tier 2 in order to do what Michael calls a "connectivity strike" on the Hunters. The mission is technically a success. Technically.

Ep. 68: relief. Mike goes back to his own time for a brief vacation, and Mikey comes to the Latvia apartment to care for a still-recovering Michael. He has strict instructions: don't let Michael near the calculator.

Ep. 69: circumstances. Mikey goes to visit Anne, expecting to be the bearer of bad news, but he discovers she has already heard the bad news. They reminisce about old times instead.

Ep. 70: base. Michael and Mikey recruit Chance, Shadow, and Charlie to Base. Mike returns from the future with an engagement ring and a broken nose.

Ep. 71: studies. Mike interrogates Alaska Mikey.

Ep. 72: council. Base meets with the Hunters to resolve their disputes and fix the timeline. They exchange information about the Flinchites and a vanished coworker. Finally, Base's members can celebrate their continued existence--but not before Anne and Mikey make one last correction.
