Aaron Tveit - Teachers (AU) - Part 1

Series Summary: When it comes to love, everyone knows it’s complicated. It gets even more complicated when you already have something but you aren’t too sure you want it anymore. Or when your past is holding you back from exploring something. Aaron is a music teacher who has to work with Y/N, the history teacher, on a production of Les Misérables. Things get really interesting and complicated when both seem to fall for one another.

Part Summary: Y/N and Aaron meet on the first day of the new school year. They seem to instantly connect and become fast friends. The principal has a proposition for both Y/N and Aaron.

Y/N pulled up outside the familiar red brick building and let out a sigh. Coming back to work after summer break was always hard. Of course, as a high school teacher, she never really got much of a break since she had to plan lessons for the new semester. It's not that she didn't love her job, she did, she really loved it. After all, she was teaching the minds of tomorrow and to her, that meant she was doing good in the world. Y/N grabbed her bag, her folders, and her other bag that held her laptop and got out of her car. Once her car was locked, she walked up to the school and through the doors. The start of a new school year. The halls were quiet except for the clicking of her heels on the floor. She could hear the other teachers in their rooms getting ready for the day ahead. Once she got to her classroom, Y/N opened the blinds to let some light in. That was much better. The light made the room feel much more comfortable. As she put her stuff down on her desk, she remembered that she needed to go to the secretary to ask when the new history books she had ordered at the end of last semester would be arriving. So, Y/N walked back down the silent halls to the secretaries office that was attached to the principal's office. She got to the office and knocked on the door, she only entered once the secretary called her in. "Hey, Kelly," she greeted the other woman with a smile as she closed the office door behind her. "I was just coming to see when those history textbooks were going to arrive?" Kelly looked up at Y/N and smiled at her before checking her emails for the arrival date for the textbooks. "They should be here tomorrow," she said. "How was your summer break? Do anything fun?" "I went to see my family in Brooklyn and spent time with them which was fun," Y/N replied. "What about you? Did you get up to much?" "Jamie and I went on holiday to Greece and she proposed," Kelly said excitedly, showing off the diamond ring. "Oh my God! Kell, I'm so happy for you guys," Y/N gushed, looking at the ring before hugging Kelly. She pulled away and grinned at her friend. "Thank you, we're both really excited," Kelly told her with a grin. "Oh, did you hear we got a new music teacher?" she asked. "Daniel's in there talking to him now," she added, gesturing over to the principal's office where the blinds were closed so Daniel and the new teacher could have a private conversation. "Yeah, I heard we were getting someone new, I didn't know they'd found someone though. Do you know who it is?" "Yup. He's called Aaron Tveit. He studied theater at Ithica before then going on to get his teaching degree. He's also very cute," Kelly replied. She rolled her eyes playfully when Y/N looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "What? Just because I'm a lesbian doesn't mean I can't tell when the opposite gender is very attractive," she teased. It was at that moment that Daniel and Aaron exited the office. "Ah, Y/N, thank goodness you're here," Daniel said with a smile. "Y/N I'd like you to meet our new music teacher, Aaron Tveit. Aaron, this is our history teacher, Y/N Y/L/N." "It's lovely to meet you, Y/N," Aaron said politely, holding his hand out to her. He certainly hadn't been expecting the staff in this school to be so attractive, but Y/N was very attractive. Holy brunette hair and blue eyes, he was indeed cute. "It's lovely to meet you too, Aaron," she said, shaking his hand. "Y/N, since you're here, would you mind showing Aaron around the school? I have a few things to sort out before the students arrive," Daniel asked. "Sure," she replied. "Follow me," she said to Aaron. The two of them then left the offices and started walking down the halls. "Would you like a coffee or anything?" she offered as they got closer to the teacher's lounge. "I would love one, thank you," Aaron replied.

They went into the teacher’s lounge and she asked Aaron how he liked his coffee before she made them. Once the coffees were done, she handed Aaron's to him and smiled at him when he thanked her. "So, are you excited for your first day?" she asked as they left the teachers lounge and started walking down the halls again. "Excited, nervous, etcetera," Aaron replied. "I guess it's always like that when you come to a new school. All the new names and faces." "That's true," Y/N agreed. Y/N spent the next twenty minutes showing Aaron around the school, both of them sipping on their coffees and chatting about this and that while they walked. Then the bell rang throughout the halls. "Well, I guess this is where we part ways for now. I'll see you at lunch?" Aaron asked with a friendly smile. "I will see you at lunch. Good luck, Mr. Tveit," Y/N told him, returning his smile. "Thank you. Have a fun morning," Aaron replied. "You too," Y/N said before the two of them parted ways to go into their own classrooms which were at opposite ends of the school. Aaron got to his classroom and noticed students were already filing into the room and taking their places in the seats that were placed on different levels in a half circle. He took a deep breath as he entered the room, the students were chatting amongst themselves. Today was probably going to be a little tough since everyone was still in holiday mode, but Aaron was sure he could handle it, he'd done it a few times before. He cleared his throat to get everyone's attention. "Good morning everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. I'm Mr. Tveit and I'm your new music teacher," he said to the class as he sat down in his chair at the front of the room so everyone could see him. "Now, how about we get started? Maybe we could start by getting to know each other a little bit? What's your name? What's your favorite music? Etcetera."

The first half of the day passed quickly much to Y/N's delight. The students were all engaged in the lessons and got with their work which meant she could plan some more lessons. The bell was about to ring for lunch, so she decided to stop the class and get everything put away. "Okay, let's start packing everything away. Now, I know it's your first day back, but I want you all to do some research on the French Revolution. I'd like to discuss it in more depth with you tomorrow," she told the students. The bell rang and she dismissed the class. Once they were all gone, Y/N picked up her bag and her cup before heading down to the teacher's lounge. Occasionally, she had to gently push past some students who were walking through the halls or stood at their lockers. The odd student said hello to her or smiled at her when she walked past them. When she got to the teacher's lounge, she found the majority of the staff already in there. She spotted Aaron stood at the coffee machine and moved over the sink that was next to him so she could wash her cup before making herself a coffee. Aaron looked to the side of him when he heard the water running. He smiled when he saw that it was Y/N. "Hey, how was your morning?" he asked as she started drying her cup. "Would you like a coffee? It's only fair since you made mine this morning," he offered. "Thank you," Y/N replied, handing him her cup and leaning on the counter next to him and folding her arms across her chest. "My morning was pretty good. The students got on with their work which is always good. We're doing the French Revolution and everyone seemed to really enjoy it. What about you? How was your morning? I hope the students have been welcoming." "The French Revolution? That's amazing, it sounds very interesting," Aaron said, handing her the coffee. "My morning's been good. I got to know the students and they got to know me a little bit and we sang some songs from Broadway shows and some pop songs and even a couple of rock songs. I thought I'd start off slow and easy." Y/N thanked him for the coffee and the two of them then moved over to the chairs where they sat next to each other. "I'm glad your first day is going well. The students are going to love you," she told him, earning a smile from him. "It'll only be a matter of time before Daniel asks you to perform at one of the dances or something," she teased. "Better get thinkin' about what I'll sing just in case then, huh?" Aaron joked, getting a laugh from Y/N in response. Y/N and Aaron spent the rest of their lunch break talking about various things such as movies and TV shows they both liked and they even spoke about Broadway shows and music while they ate. It seemed like the two of them had connected instantly and they had become fast friends. They were getting along wonderfully and in a job like this, it was always a good thing to get along with co-workers. The rest of the day passed quickly and before Y/N knew it, the final bell of the day rang. The students left the classroom and she sat down at her desk and opened her laptop so she could check over lesson plans and maybe even start typing up some more. The first week back was the busiest. An hour later, Y/N heard a knock on her door. "Come in," she called out without looking away from her work on the computer screen, even as she heard someone enter the room and close the door behind them. "Someone's desperate to get that work finished," Aaron joked, making Y/N look up at him with a smile. "Well, I figured it was easier to get it done tonight rather than in the morning," Y/N told him with a little shrug of her shoulders. "Smart girl," Aaron complimented. "Maybe you should finish it at home. Apart from the janitors, we're the last ones here." "Good idea. I don't want to get in the janitor's way," she agreed, saving her work before closing her laptop and putting it back in its bag before gathering the rest of her things.

The two of them then left her classroom and walked through the empty hallways together. The cold air hit her as they exited the building, it made her shiver a little and pull her jacket around her a little tighter as they walked to their cars. Coincidentally, Aaron had parked next to her. "Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow. Goodnight, Aaron," she smiled. "I'll see you tomorrow. Goodnight, Y/N," Aaron replied, smiling back at her before they both got into their cars and went their separate ways for the night.

The last two weeks had gone very quickly. It was Friday today and Y/N was looking forward to the weekend. She was still doing the French Revolution with her students and all of them seemed to be getting the hang of it. The lesson was going to end in about ten to fifteen minutes, so she was doing a little pop quiz to see how much the students remembered. "Who can tell me when the French Revolution started and when it ended?" she asked the class as she sat on the edge of her desk. "James," she said, pointing to a boy at the back of the class who had his hand raised. "The French Revolution started in 1789 and ended in 1799," James replied. "Excellent," Y/N complimented. "What were the outcomes?" Sarah was the one who was picked this time. "There were several outcomes of the French Revolution. They were: the abolition of the French monarchy, radical social change based on liberalism and other Enlightenment principles, the establishment of a not specifically religious and democratic republic that became increasingly authoritarian and militaristic, it also led to armed conflicts with other countries, and of course, the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte." "Well done. What momentous event led to international condemnation?" Y/N asked, choosing a young boy named Matt. "The momentous event that led to international condemnation was the execution of Louis XVI in January of 1793," Matt answered. "Perfect," Y/N praised. "Now, I would like you to write a short paper on any part of the French Revolution. It can be what led to it, how it ended, it's up to you. I'd like that to be handed in by next Friday," she explained. "Any questions?" she asked. "Yes Jason?" she said to the young boy who had raised his hand. "Will the grade for this paper go towards our end of year grade?" Jason asked. "It will. All of the grades you get for your work on this topic and any other topics we cover this year plus your end of year exam, will go towards your overall grade at the end of the year and that, along with the grades from your other classes, will go towards your GPA average," Y/N explained. "Anything else?" "How long does the paper have to be?" Molly asked when Miss. Y/L/N pointed to her. "Let's say 1000 words or more?" Y/N said. Thankfully, the students agreed to that. She smiled at the class as the bell rang. "Have a wonderful weekend and I'll see you on Monday," she told them as she dismissed them. Y/N gathered her things and headed down to the teacher's lounge. Once there, she instantly started making herself a coffee, humming a tune as she did so.

Aaron walked into the teacher's lounge and went over to the coffee machine. A smile found its way onto his face when he saw Y/N and heard her humming a song. "Someone's in a good mood today," he chuckled, getting a smile from Y/N when she looked at him. "It's Friday, what's not to be happy about," she joked. Y/N grabbed a mug from the cupboard so she could make Aaron a coffee too. They talked about their morning as she made the coffees. When the coffees were done, Y/N handed Aaron his and smiled at him when he thanked her. After that, they moved over to the chairs and sat in their usual spots. "So, have you got any plans for the weekend?" Aaron asked as they tucked into their lunches. "Planning for next week and marking work," Y/N told him. "What about you?" "The same as you. Gonna try to call my parents and my brother too," Aaron replied. Daniel entered the teacher's lounge and spotted the two people he was looking for. "Miss. Y/L/N, Mr. Tveit, may I have a word?" he asked them when he got to where they were sat. He noticed Y/N and Aaron share a questioning look before they got up and left the room with him. He led them to his office, he sat down in his leather chair behind his desk and gestured for them to sit in the two leather seats in front of his desk. "Is everything okay, Danny?" Y/N asked as she and Aaron sat down. "Yes, everything's fine. I just wanted to talk to you about something," Daniel started. "You're both amazing teachers and I've noticed how well you two have been getting along. Which is why I would like you to work together on something," he told them. "Y/N, I understand that you're currently working on the French Revolution with your students, correct?" "Yes, they're loving it," Y/N replied. She was confused as to why Daniel had brought the two of them there. "Wonderful, that's what I was hoping for," Daniel smiled. "I want you two to put your heads together and work on a production of Les Misérables. I think this could be fun for both you and your students. So, are you in?" Aaron and Y/N shared a look and a smile before turning back to Daniel. "I'm in. I think it sounds really fun," Aaron replied with a smile. "I'm in too, it'll be fun," Y/N added. "Perfect, I can't wait to see what you guys do," Daniel said with a grin, clasping his hands together on the desk. He then allowed the two of them to leave so they could enjoy the rest of their lunch break. Aaron spent the rest of lunch talking to Y/N about their new project. "Maybe we could meet up at some point over the weekend so we can discuss this further?" he suggested as they both left the teacher's lounge now that lunch was just about over. "We should," Y/N agreed. "How about we meet up at Jo's Diner tomorrow at around noon and discuss it then?" "I think that sounds like a plan," Aaron replied. “A friend of mine actually works there, so maybe I can get us a discount,” he joked. Y/N quickly dig around in her bag and found a little notebook and a pen. She quickly wrote down her number before ripping out the page and handing to Aaron. "We can get in touch much easier this way. You'll have to send me your number later." "Thank you. I will text you later so you have my number," Aaron replied, folding up the paper and putting in his trouser pocket. "Better bring your thinking cap with you tomorrow, Aaron. We need plenty of ideas," Y/N teased, giving him a little wink. "I will make sure I remember to put it on," Aaron replied, returning her wink and giving her a bright grin. "I'll see you tomorrow, Y/N." "See you tomorrow," Y/N smiled. They both said bye to each other before heading off to their classrooms. They were both happy that they now didn't have to spend tomorrow alone and that they had a fun new project to work on.
