Lame af to be a prehealth student lamenting basic ass intro liberal core requirements. Sorry, you don't need communication skills as a PA? You don't need to be able to read critically in dental school? Get the fuck out of here.

Redrawing amino acids from memory is the best way to practice and get down the concepts. I thought my drawings looked so pretty I had to post them lol. I have my very first midterm in my summer program tomorrow and I also have a paper due, so I’ll be staying up late tonight to say the least! I got my iced caramel latte and I’m ready to get this!!! Today, I also went to an undergrad poster session at my university and I literally cannot wait to get into lab lol

If anyone could help me I would appreciate it!
I need to drop my Orgo II lab for this spring semester because of time constraints (Otherwise, I’d be at school 12+ hours and I commute :| ). Would it be bad to take it after applying to MD and DO school this spring semester?

I've been doubtful on my pre health journey. I think being exposed to a school with highly intelligent and privileged individuals have constantly demoralized me from pursuing a pre health path. It generally made me feel unhappy, especially when classes got tough and it felt like I had no support system. But, when I shadowed physicians, it always re-inspired me to take that leap of faith (also my GPA sucks). How am I supposed to overcome these barriers? Any advice?
At the risk of giving you dubious advice, I’ll still give you my opinion.
Very few of the people I know in medical school actually enjoyed high school. You’re not alone in that, I promise.
Intelligence and privilege are great things to have. But what I found makes a good student is hard work, self care and consistency. I sucked (I mean really sucked) at algebra, but here I am. I didn’t consider myself intelligent either. But what I had going for me is my curiosity and eagerness to learn. Everybody has something going for them, and it’s not always the same thing. Please don’t compare yourself to other people.
Having a support system is important. You asking this question shows that you’re trying to connect. Please do that more often. With people in your life like family, with a guidance counselor in school, with people in your community, with the studyblr and medblr community. There are people who want to help you and support you, it’s tricky finding them but I believe you can.
You are doing things that inspire you and that’s great. Keep reminding yourself of where you want to be, so that the stepping stones you need to get through don’t seem so bad.
I’m not sure when you left this message so I’m terribly sorry if this reply is very late. I didn’t want to leave this question unanswered though because it is important. At the same time, I feel like I wish I were more qualified to answer this. Hopefully some of it was still useful! Input from medblrs is welcome.
Ps. Give me an update on how you’re doing now, I’d love to know :)

This is my friend, nay brother, Brandon. Brandon is a second year college student. He’s currently on the prehealth track, but has a vested interest in economics. Brandon is a individual of class. Class in that he appreciates the fine arts. Brandon is also partaking in bulk season. He is a top tier lifter, but more importantly, a top tier friend

I took my midterm last week and I think I did pretty well! Here are some of the notes I used to review! I just started using digital notes with and iPad and stylus and I honesty enjoy. As much as I was adamant about being open to paper kind of person (my stationary collection supports this statement(, I really enjoy the convince of not having to carry so much stuff around. I still use pen to paper for some things, but the iPad is very quickly becoming my go to.
Anyways, I’ve been up since 5am day doing a training for the new group of volunteers/interns at the hospital. It is currently 11:45pm and I have a paper due tomorrow. I really need to nail my sleep/work schedule down because this is A LOT lol.

hi elle !! i got into ucla class 2022 for biochemistry, which is the same as you :D im having a really hard time trying to decide whether i should go to ucla, so i was wondering if theres any advice you would be able to share with me, as someone who is taking biochem in ucla ?
HELLO CONGRATS!! omg biochem biochem ahh where do I begin
first this that i wrote last year
Ok second: things to know about biochemistry from a biochem person at ucla (BUT REmember this is my opinion and not straight facts pls don’t trust me completely)
Biochem is a difficult major at ucla because a lot of people who enter biochem are premed or prepharmacy or prehealth in general, and then they get put into engineering classes (we take the engineering version of chemistry and math). And then we complain because omL we gotta compete with engineers in math??? UGh
The other chem and math classes at ucla are directed towards life science majors and tend to be more prehealth focused. So to be clear, there are two series of classes at ucla: life sciences based, and the physical sciences based (physical sciences is the series that engineers will take).
Biochem is a physical science (apparently lol) so that’s why we have to take the physical science classes. These classes still prepare you for any prehealth needs, but idk biochem majors like to complain a lot LOL. The main difference is that the life science chemistry series is 4 lectures and 2 labs to finish the requirement, while physical science is 5 lectures and 3 labs to finish the requirements (generally speaking because every major is different, but biochem majors will take 5 lectures and 3 labs of lower level chemistry).
Finally (note this is the sensitive part and anyone reading this who’s an LS major at ucla please do not be offended as this does not reflect my personal views), students who take the physical science classes will say that the life science classes are much easier and it’s unfair. The only thin I think is unfair is the difference in the number of classes that i mentioned above because it takes up time. I remember in my chem lab, we were all waiting for our stupid water to boil (lol) and half the class was talking about how the life science series has it so easy :/// so yeah. That’s the dark side of biochemistry LOL but lets be real if you’re bioCHEMISTRY it’s fair to take more chemistry classes omg
So yeah a lot of people drop outta biochem because they’re premed and wanna go straight into the premed track, so they switch into a life science major like biology, and i think this is just fine if you have your goals! I really do think that even though biochem prepares you for a career in medicine, it is not tailored to prepare you to be a doctor (if that’s what you plan). It’s very pharmacy and research centered!
Hope that was thorough and I also hope you come to UCLA hehe

Hello predental students! I wanted to share some advice for the DAT, as someone who took the DAT just last year, and am now attending my dream dental school (NYU)! I am sure that just about now, MANY of you are studying to take this test over the spring and summer months, before dental school applications begin. We put so much of our hearts and souls into this exam, we ingrain into our minds that our score will ultimately define the extent of our knowledge, and determine our entire future. We push ourselves to our limits and extremes, at the expense of our mental and physical wellbeing, until inevitably at a certain point, we exhaust all our strength and burn out. Here is a mixture of study and wellness tips, based on my own experiences, to hopefully help you along your journey through the DAT! SWIPE RIGHT TO READ ➡️➡️ I hope this helped you on your journey and I wish you all the best on the DAT! Please let me know which tips you resonated with most, and share any tips you have as well! Finally, I wanted to take a moment to shout out a brand very near and dear to my heart, created by an NYUCD alum, and dentist, Dr. Tiffany Sudre! Like many of us Dental students, and healthcare professional ladies, Dr. Sudre would always find herself freezing in the office, particularly in the winter. One morning, while putting leggings under her scrubs for the 4th time that week, she wondered why there couldn’t be a better option. With no high quality lined scrubs on the market, Dr. Sudre strove to combine the best medical scrub fabric with the softest lining material she could find to design the most comfortable, stylish and WARM pair of scrubs on the market.. and here I am rocking them!! @silverliningscrubs generously sent me a pair of scrubs, and I absolutely adore them!! Please check out her brand and show her insta some love! #dentistry #dental #dentist #teeth #dentists #oralhealth #studentsofdentistry #DATtips #StudyTips #StudyHacks #CracktheDAT #predental #DATprep #futuredentist #DATbootcamp #dds #dentalstudent #dentalschool #womeninmedicine #predental #dentalstudent #dat #roadtodmd #predentalstudent #prehealth #scrubs #studentdentist #dentistryworld #scrublife https://www.instagram.com/p/B8Uh4bRnvkL/?igshid=197fnkr4kasp5

Let me tell you it isn’t all #mildliners and #happyplanners #aesthetic and #Bujo Sometimes it’s messy, and cramming- sometimes you eating while annotating and typing. Life isn’t easy and much to our teacher’s disbelief- school isn’t everything! I have a family, home life, work AND school not to mention travel time. I don’t always get to study a lot so I have to be proactive. Record lectures, ask questions, if you have the EText textbook, get a PDF app that will read it to you while you’re driving or cooking. The little things work together, just put forth your best effort and when things are less hectic, slow down and enjoy the process 🙌🏻😍🤦🏼‍♀️ #student #college #university #studygram #studyblr #nursing #nursingstudent #prehealth #premed #bsnstudent
