So, I went to see the Super Mario movie saturday afternoon and I must say, I had an absolute blast. Don't get me wrong, it was far from perfect. And I'll have to agree that it could have used ten or fifteen more minutes to pace things a little more organically. But really, I had a smile on my face the entire time. As a Bowser fan, the film was an especially exhilarating treat. From enjoying himself at a heavy metal concert, to bashfully trying to woo the princess, writing her an exquisitely awkward love song and rehearsing his proposal with Kamek, to ruthlessly tearing into the hero after they saved the day ruined everything he worked so hard towards, he walked such an astounding line between adorable and intense (also, I'd like to add that he was really, really sexy :3 ). Not that the other characters weren't delightful too, of course. I must admit, I'm actually quite surprised that they chose to address Peach's origins. I mean, even back when the brothers being from Brooklyn was a staple of the series, the incongruity of a (seemingly) human princess leading a nation of mushroom people never really came into question. If a sequel there is, I'd definitely like for that point to be explored a little more... Also, I'm particularly fond of the way the Kongs were integrated into the story. To tell you the truth, I've never really cared for the DK side of the franchise all that much. But really, the visit to the Jungle Kingdom was quite a riot, both in terms of action and worldbuilding. And let’s not forget the sheer insanity of the Koopa General... Really though, that movie was just, so much fun. Bright, colorful, light-hearted, unadulterated fun. Which is not to say that it was without emotions. The brothers' feeling of inadequacy, both expressed in different ways, their tearful reunion, the need to prove themselves to the world and to each other... Truly, fraternal affection is the crux of the film. In fact, family as a whole is an omnipresent theme throughout the story, from Peach's devotion to the Toads, to DK's own issues with his dad. And I'm not even talking about the love that was poured into all the little details. It's already been said a thousand times, but there are so many Easter eggs* hidden in the film, be it in the picture or the score. I've seen the movie being described as a "love letter" to the franchise and its fans, and really, I feel like there is no better way to put it. In a sense, I'd say it's like a puzzle : watching all the different little pieces fall neatly into place is also part of the fun. Sure, it wasn't The Last Wish, but then again, it didn't need to be. In its case - and I insist on the word "case"** -, the world is the plot. And the film executes it spectacularly. Anyway, this accolade is probably long enough (unlike the movie, which could afford to be much longer, if only because what we got was so good already :p ). Still, let me emphasize one last time what a joy it was to see the Mushroom World come alive this way, in such a luminous and bustling manner. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if instead of a sequel, we were to get a whole-ass show, in the vein of the first three cartoons. A mix of slice-of-life and adventure to explore this beautiful version of the Mario universe and everything it has to offer. I think it would be great. With that being said, thank you for listening to my divagations on the matter. As always, it was nice to get those thoughts out of my system. I mean, it was such a wholesome movie ; I needed to share my giddy excitement with the universe. ^_^
* Quite fitting for the season, now that I think about it. Although the film is so rich in references, that I'd almost be tempted to refer to them as "Fabergé eggs". XD
** I know better than anyone how good at storytelling the franchise can be - as recently demonstrated by Sparks of Hope -, so don't take this statement as a generalization it isn't meant to be.

now that i think abt it, looking back, srmthfg did a lot of stuff that i liked so much, let’s say regarding the main character. I find Chiro’s case so interesting because despite the fact that he is never given any backstory whatsoever, he becomes meaningful through his actions and becomes established and distinguished through his interactions with others. I think he is such a likeable character but not in the way that he’s perfect, he has his flaws and fears that he overcomes or struggles with. He is shown multiple times being kind towards others, even towards hideous creatures or animals (i mean it would be ironic for him to hate animals given that he lives with monkeys) which at the time was like such a breath of fresh air for me. Also the way characters constantly belittle/make fun of him for hanging out with animals and he just pretty much tells all of them to f off which is great. The majority of times the villains aren’t even naturally evil but corrupted by the evil force and the main characters recognize that and try to help as much as they can.
Another thing that i like abt Chiro is that he’s supposed to be ‘’the chosen one’’ but he isn’t overpowered, he has several established moves which he uses throughout the show or improves and that’s it. and he loses, A LOT. Like there’s this great accent placed on the fact that they are a team and on how they are constantly saving each other.
AND GOD
let me tell you, i dislike mechs, among all animals primates and monkeys are my least favorite and yet this show has somehow managed to make me love BOTH. The way they made me care so deeply abt each freaking technicolor monkey, about this pink mary-sue-ish robot-girl, and about that plain-ass looking super robot is INSANE. The writer somehow managed to give them so much personality. When Antauri [redacted] I was literally not okay for several weeks. I related to Gibson so much and his beef with Sprx was so fun and his relationship with Otto so nice. Nova was badass and funny and i loved the big sister kind of relationship she had with Chiro. I can’t even chose a fave out of the monkeys because they complemented each other so well. Jinmay seemed sorta boring at first but the fact that she was a robot made everything so much more interesting, i absolutely loved all the times when they would pit her against the heroes. I also loved that she was established from the beginning and kept being a recurring character even becoming a member of the team but not in the way that it would break the team’s mojo. The super-robot was so plain but the way they constantly showed us it was sentient was so eerie. AND god the villains where compelling, terrifying and idk felt like a constant looming threat.
Idk maybe it’s nostalgia speaking but this show had so much shit that somehow newer shows/anime constantly miss and it makes me sad when i remember how it ended and how it has been literally forgotten by everyone. Sometimes i think it’s a fever dream because nobody ever mentions it, not even when they are talking abt ‘‘forgotten shows’‘ :’)))

starting Dark Road, still in the prologue and I just now figure out that Eraqus is an anagram for "square" (as in, Square Enix, possibly? I wouldn't put it past Nomura to have a character named after the company)

Oblivion did such a great job with its UI, the choice of fonts was phenomenal, the constant presence of kingthings petrock as subtitles and as the player's journal evoking medieval books, the quest updates framed with floral ornaments that look right out of manuscripts, the little icons tied to specific quests and questlines and the different crests that appear in your log to signify your rank in different factions

crow!! i’m watching alan wake 2 gameplay (even tho i never finished the first game oops. fake fan ik </3) and immediately thought of you. i’m fucking fascinated by this level of storytelling, even if i can’t remember a lot of the details and references. won’t spoil anything just in case, but hope you’re able to play/watch it soon! i know you’ve been buzzing for the new game :) x
aaaa sledge hello!! i actually do have the game now and i can run it on my setting, im just waiting on it a bit to see if they run out a few fixes for obvious bugs but im gonna get absolutely devoured by it hopefully soon!!
but god yeah from what ive seen people talk about, the story telling in this one goes DEEP and its extremely ambitious and layered and everything and god im just. im so ready for that. its gonna be such an experience like. sam lake is a goddamn creative genius to put it slightly (the way he crafts stories and just generally writes is. so fucking inspiring to me. like god he is Everything)
i highly recommend the first game tho, its one of my all time favorites and so worth the time 💜

OKAY, so I’m gonna put my spoilery stream of consciousness thoughts and gushing under a cut--
I just LOVE everything about Luigi. I really liked how they animated him, he was very... ON POINT. The subtle anxiety and nerves in his movement, the dorky sass, it was all was mMMM GOOD KUSH
Best part? THE BROS. The connection between them felt SO heartwarming and genuine. Mario is super protective of Luigi and Luigi admires him so much, you can REALLY see it’s been these two against the world since they were babies. Also? They’re both mama’s boys, especially Luigi. It’s so precious. My headcanons are all real.
Mario sometimes calls Luigi Lu and it’s ADORABLE
THE REUNION HUG, OH MY GOSH, I WILL NEVER GET OVER THIS
The post credit scene!!! YOSHI SEQUEL??? HELL YEAH
THE WAY THE BROS WORKED TOGETHER TO BEAT BOWSER. I was afraid Luigi wouldn’t get any chance to shine and Mario would do everything, but they did it together and I’m SO HAPPY ABOUT THAT, THEY KILLED IT, BEST BROS BEST BROS
Honestly, my only complaint is the one I anticipated, which is that I wanted MORE Luigi. He was imprisoned for a good chunk of the movie and I just wanted more of my baby boy. I wanted to see him using the power ups too!

I would love to hear your Legends Arceus thoughts! I got it a couple months ago and I'm having so much fun with it!
WOUGHHH I LOVE LEGENDS ARCEUS SO MUCHHH the Legends choice was easily one of the best decisions Pokemon has made with its video games in years and I genuinely would LOVE to see them do another one (Legends Unova pleeeease god)--I love this idea of going back to old regions and doing something new with them, new story, new gameplay, new exploration of this vast world theyve had cooked up for over a decade. And new POKEMON!! I really enjoy like all of the Hisuian Pokemon theyve added...The concept of making regional variants for older gen regions RULES, and I love how this game gives some lovin to some lackluster older 'mons by giving them evolutions that SHRED LIKE HELL. OVERQWIL. SNEASLER. URSALUNA MY BELOVED.
(also, regional variant starter evolutions is SUCH a phenomenal idea and I wanna see it again so bad!! Hisuian Samurott legitimately my new all time favorite water type. He's perfect)
when I was a kid I was really into exploring DPP's legendary lore and having my self insert OC hang out with Sinnoh legendaries and a lot of PLA's everything really just makes me feel so soft and nostalgic... game middle schooler me would have gone Absolutely Insane for. I love the story and the characters, Pokemon is really gettin good at Characters these past few games--even when the actual game is weaker the charaters still feel very memorable and fun. I love you Cogita my beautiful wife Cogita. And Like. My God. There is SO much lore tucked in that game that I wish it made more of an effort to tip you off towards, shit i'm only just learning RECENTLY, hidden tidbits extremely off the map and underexplained. It is very very cool and I hope if they do another Legends game there's more secrets to unearth. Cuz that's like, probably one of my favorite aspects of the game is just...wandering around the map, sightseeing. I get why some people feel like the maps are kind of empty but I honestly don't mind it very much...it's peaceful. I like just scurrying around looking at things, listening to the world.
also on that note: god the music is fantastic. I love the way this game approached the motifs and music from Diamond and Pearl, all the tracks in PLA kick so much ass and/or Unlock a Tremendous Sense of Nostalgic Tenderness Within Me. The Lake Theme is one of my favorites; when the motif from the DPP original version kicks in i get a little misty eyed i must admit... (also the Late Night Field Theme. holy shit. the first time i heard it i got CHILLS. OUGH.)
It's not a perfect game of course, the Getting a Little (A Lot) Playfully Colonialist inherent to the Galaxy Corps and their place in Hisui is. not fantastic.😬 And it's got little bugs and glitches and graphics that could have used another year in the oven. But damn if it's not some of the most fun I've ever had with a Pokemon game. it really feels like a weirder older spinoff game, like something that woulda come out in gen 5, but it actually gets classed as a mainline series game and i love that about it.
And i hope you continue to have fun with it!! The late game stuff is really a treat imo. So much great OST tracks headed your way :3c i Really need to go back into PLA myself and actually complete my dex and battle Arceus but time keeps running away from me....one day. i will get back in there. I'm very fond of Hisui ;__;
heres a picture of my H-Samurott plush his name is Kaiser and he's my friend ❤

(in response to ur tags on the sonic frontiers comic) YEAH IT LOOKS REALLY GOOD!! just based on what people have said about it agdhjdb……. should i play it?? is it already out?? i do like sonic but i’m not like. INTO sonic yknow? but like i’m so intrigued by the stuff about it on my dash :o
ooHHHH my gosh yes, I'm so sorry for the wall of text below, but I just have so many thoughts on this game as a big Sonic fan myself
(This ramble is also for anyone else who's thinking of getting Sonic Frontiers!)
It takes a little bit to get really used to the controls, but it's the first time in a long time I truly felt in control of Sonic while playing a Sonic game. The game gives you lots of time to get used to the controls as well, you can take the game at your own pace and customize the plethora of movement controls in the options menu until Sonic controls in the way that feels right to you
It's really fun to run around the overworld (the scenery is absolutely gorgeous btw, I've taken over 200 screenshots and that's not an exaggeration), I mean you can see something waaaay off in the distance, say to yourself "that looks fun to run around on, I wanna go there" and then you can just. Run there. Plus there're also these little spurts of faster-paced level design similar to what we've seen from more modern-era Sonic games
The combat system in the overworld is also really fun. There's a skill tree where you can unlock more moves for Sonic that you can use while fighting enemies.
There's also an unlockable auto-combat skill so if you don't want to memorize all the different button combos for combat, that automates the combos, though I'm not sure how well that works myself since I never turned it on, I love the manual combat too much to try it out lol
Overall there's this sense of grandeur, of epicness, in the enemy battles and the overworld and the bosses alike.
Plus, if you're into the lore of the Sonic universe and the characters themselves (like I am) then you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of the story as well! If not, then the story might be a tad confusing, but I still think someone who isn't familiar with the lore would still get enjoyment out of it
There are also quite a few trailers if you'd like to see more gameplay footage and teasers on the story before playing it! I'll link them here:
Overview trailer
Combat trailer
Story trailer
Also, if you're interested in the story, there's a prologue animation featuring Knuckles, and a two-part comic on Twitter (part 1) (part 2)
It's not a perfect game, of course, and I don't want to push you or anyone else into getting it by overhyping it haha. I'm not saying "go buy it Right Now Immediately don't think just DO It it's Perfect!" and I can't really say how difficult it is to get into if you're not into Sonic (since I've been into Sonic for like... 85% of my entire existence). Mostly this is just me sharing what I found really fun about the game as a Sonic fan, and if that stuff sounds fun to you too, then yes, I definitely recommend it!
Sonic Frontiers made me feel like I was a kid again playing my favorite Gamecube-era Sonic games, and for that I love it.
tl;dr: Yes, I recommend Sonic Frontiers! Running around the overworld is fun, the battle system is epic, and the story is really enjoyable for fans of the Sonic universe's lore!

Between women characters calling themselves monsters for not being able to have a child and all mothers in a whole book series dying, I think male writers need to require a 6month therapy before they are allowed to write books or movies.

Question to the One Piece fleet (or whatever the fandom calls themselves): is One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 a good way to get into the franchise? I hear there's a story mode that covers the entire franchise up to a certain point.
