Y’know I actually think we really need to talk about how more fem/less masc presenting characters are treated by the utmv fandom.

Because characters like Ink, Dream, Blue, and Lust have had a very disturbing pattern in how they’re treated. There are usually three really bad pitfalls that happen with portrayals of their characters.

infantilization/uwuification

villainization/yandereifiction

fetishization/hypersexualization

With these tropes often overlapping.

The version of bastardization we’re all pretty familiar with is infantilization/uwuification, where the characters are treated as overly innocent/cute and are often denied their maturity or agency in things. We all know the Bluwuberry situation and how Ink was treated pre-2018 and how Dream is still often treated today with very little push back, all of these characters are treated as innocent or demure simply for presenting less masculine or being “good guys”. But this can also be deliberately done in an attempt to “save” a character from preexisting misconceptions. See the #SaveLustBean situation from 2020-2021, where people (primarily on the utmv side of YouTube, usually young creators) tried to dispel the negative connotations around Lust’s character by… basically infantilizing him. It’s right in the hashtag, calling him an “UwU Smol bean” instead of just- saying #SaveLustSans or something like that that is more definitive. Their intentions were very noble, but their methods were misplaced.

Now on the other end of the spectrum, villainization. We’ve all seen it with Ink being treated like an unforgivable monster post 2018, we’ve all seen Lust being characterized as a gross pervert or deviant when he’s not, and we’ve all seen the villainization and uwuification compound to make yandereification with how Blue was treated in the early days. Even Dream is starting to be villainized in very upsetting ways. The issue with these portrayals isn’t that they portray these characters as dark or complex or as villains, I myself find darker interpretations of Dream and Ink fascinating. It’s about either the extent to which they misrepresent and mischaracterize the characters or the way the behavior is presented. With Ink and Dream especially their actions are often treated as irrational and hysterical, to the extent of playing into common tropes of the “unstable fem person who can’t control their emotions”. On the other hand there is Lust, who is villainized and ostracized because of his femininity and often is forced into a more masculine role, with the way his fem presentation is gawked at often resembling the way people forcefully masculinize and ostracize trans women. He is treated like a weirdo creep because of his nonconformity compounded with his proximity to suggestive themes and it’s… not fun to witness.

Now finally, the hardest of these to talk about and the least talked about of these topics, fetishization and hypersexualization. If you are sensitive to these topics/discussion of suggestive themes I suggest you skip this section, though know that nothing will be described in detail here. This is not about people simply ethically depicting these characters in suggestive ways or as people who have sex lives/appeal, that’s not at all what I’m referring to. I’m talking about the way that these characters often have sexual themes forced upon them, how all of their traits are often sexualized, and how these things are specifically done because of their femininity. Ink’s neurological issues are often fetishized with people treating him as mindless or helpless and then somehow trying to make that something they can exploit. Blue’s infantilized and yandereified nature are often accompanied with heavy sexualization, especially in the earlier fandom days. Dream is very rarely given proper attention beyond potential sex appeal and being a goody two shoes, with his own damn creator infantilizing him and then putting him in deeply upsetting situations. Lust especially is often not given room to exist outside of sex and is treated like nothing more than a suggestive deviant.

And a lot of people will ask me how all of this relates to their femininity and will claim it’s not exclusive to them, but if you look at how people treat the other characters that’s just not true. The bad guys are allowed to be complex and interesting, they are allowed to take on respectable archetypes, the stars and Lust are often not.

And whenever people try to remove them from these bastardizations they often do one thing that is very telling: they remove the non-masculine or unique traits of the characters.

People make them more masculine, less cute, more sanitized, they take away what makes these characters special, as if masculinity and a lack of cuteness and being nonsexual is what is required to deserve respect or proper characterization.

All of this to say: just because we are the fandom of gay gender nonconforming skeletons does not mean that there isn’t deep-rooted misogyny we need to unpack.

Obviously if you’ve ever made a mistake in portraying these characters or accidentally participated in bastardization you’re not suddenly a misogynistic monster, I just think it’s good to take a closer examination at how we have historically and continue to portray certain characters and may accidentally perpetuate certain harmful ideologies.

3 biggest improvements

oh yay tooting my own horn, my favourite activity lmao cutting back - i started this year with a very clear goal of doing No Fests. i did nearly fail at this and i DID sign up to a fest although for no fault of my own that didn't work out in the end which means No Fest 2022 was a success. i also spent a lot less time forcing myself to write and a lot more time thinking about my motivations, the stories i really want to tell and what kind of presence i want to have. i wish i had cut back more but it's very hard. a while ago i described to a dear friend how falling out of love with a fandom community is a bit like moving house, and this move hasn't been smooth. i am proud of my efforts here though!

finding a balance to my outlining process - outlining has always been my weakness. my two longer works are a bit of a mess continuity-wise because my brain just hates outlining. the moment i write down what happens it ticks the wee box for that task and assumes i am done. this year i have found a happy balance where i don't outline too much so that my brain still thrives on the mystery but enough so that the final product isn't a total mess.

characterisation vs plotting - this ties in a little bit with the outlining thing above but i feel like a lot of what i wrote this year was character motivated rather than plot driven! it's a bit of a new approach for me but i am very pleased with the results. it took a lot of studying (mostly reading original stuff, but also a ton of @skeptiquewrites fic because in my opinion, no one does a full cast of characters that feel real and fleshed out and wonderful every single time like tee does!) and a lot more time considering who these characters are instead of actively writing to advance a story, which really worked out for me

2 resolutions

get back to original work - i have a novel idea that's been in my head for a very long time and my goal was to work on it at some point this year. i even gave it a good go during NaNo — unfortunately, it is largely horror and also very much based in my childhood home, in which i am currently living... you can see how that probably wasn't a good idea in the first place. (wtf was i thinking) so, depending on whether or not i manage to finish building and move into my tiny home at some point in 2023, a good chunk of a first draft should be achieved sometime next year!

give myself some grace - well. yeah. that. this is basically an extended version of the "cutting back" improvement from this year. i have to remind myself a lot that unexpected heartbreak and real life shit and bad mental health are all a thing. i'm not always going to be able to finish my projects, and sometimes i will be able to finish them but it won't be what i want it to be. so i'm putting joy above every other feeling next year by cutting myself some slack

I've also been doing okay, haven't felt like doing much in particular. Series rewatch notes to self

S1E01 “us weirdos have to stick together”; takeout death with Warden Wrath cutting off Eda’s head (using scythe arm); Eda coerces Luz into her first adventure and that’s when Luz decides to stay, deceives her mom for the first time; quest to get King’s crown, him living in a fantasy world; King is a lot more enjoyable when I have the context of his developmental age, but it does make Eda look more questionable

S1E02 Luz draws more direct comparisons between her life and Azura than I remember; directly addresses dangers of living in a fantasy world, main character fallacy, trusting shady old men; Luz trapped in fantasy world and choosing to wake up; parallels between her projecting Azura fantasy dreamland onto BI (presented as hellish from start) vs projecting her depressed cognitive distortions onto the Collector’s fantasy dreamland; Nevareth “teen prince of angstmore” has an animal sidekick I forgot about, as a puppet gets stabbed by Luz.

S1E03 Luz refers to the Owl House as home in the cold open. Reference to Eda’s poor position in BI, Luz not wanting that for herself. Love Willow. Angry outburst and trouble controlling plant magic from the start. Confirmed Best: “Into the darkness you go 😉”. Gus is so smol. Abominations as mindless obedient creations. Willow confirmed plant prodigy, Bump says “remarkable.” Amity’s desperate need to be top student. High fives and hugs are human things.

S1E04 LORE. Boiling rain. King teaching about demons, v funny. Eda teaching spell circles bile sac. Owl beast curse; King knows about potions but think they give Eda magic. Luz wants to learn magic so people take her seriously. King dejected that Luz cares more about magic than demons. Bonding. Curse can be managed by elixir, entirely out of control otherwise. First dream memory not knowing who cursed her. Luz learns light spell.

S1E05 Covention. Introduction of coven systems. Eda is such a radical and I love her for it. Friction between her views and Willow and Gus’ societal norms. Lilith and EC get introduced (by Bump, v pro). Another case of mean is bad, nice is good and vice versa. Duel between Luz and Amity. King as a pet again. Lilith is Eda’s sister. Reveal via Kikimora at the end that she’s supposed to be capturing Eda, but she doesn’t try to in this ep. Big emphasis over multiple episodes on whether Eda is a good teacher/mentor for Luz. Eda and Lilith both cheat. They duel. Eda tells her the curse is killing her, “don’t know how many days I have left.”

S1E06 moonlight conjuring. Bad: Eda has a gambling problem; needless friction between Eda and Luz for conflict; Eda as a pickpocket played for laughs, acting like all crimes are created equal. Good: kids are all flawed but cute; Willow insecurity moment; Gus’ bucket list; Willow and Gus trying to protect Luz from Eda’s punishment at the end. Also that guy who enjoys throwing kids off of cliffs, v funny. Tibbles the capitalist. Eda w/o magic getting captured easily (to get handed over to EC). Owlbert doesn’t (can’t?) transform to help. Amity is legit such a bully to Willow.

S1E07 Lumity. But setup begins with Luz, Eda, King; better going into it knowing which split ups occur. Eda and King babysit for BQ, amazing reluctant parent Eda; “joke” at end about empty nest syndrome w parallels to Eda’s Requiem. Luz explicitly interested in befriending Amity because of Azura. Amity blames Luz, calls her a bully (retracts at end); implications for Luz’s guilt later. Twins presented as cool; v mean; rule breakers; inconsistencies wrt illusion magic; revenge on Amity for tattling on them. Amity diary entries.

S1E08 starts with Boscha, Luz recognizes her as a bully (weird framing with Amity). Body swap. Don’t buy premise of them not being able to empathize with each other; series started off with us weirdos sticking together, nothing done to undermine that. Would’ve preferred seeing them bond together. Interesting take with King wrt woobifying/coddling/babying characters. Unfortunate implications wrt framing of King as an adult sentient pet like creature. King is Luz, doesn’t act less mature than her; how old is he supposed to be? Skara isn’t that bad even in this. Luz does spell circles as Eda. Her AND OWLBERT get arrested by the EC. Lilith shows up; scouts react to her presence, she does command respect. Overrides orders to send Eda straight to conformatorium, to try to brand her into EC instead. Show won’t commit to Eda’s crimes. Ep includes rat worms, crow phones. Ends with Eda swapping everyone, it is horrifying, wild magic is dangerous ig

S1E09 Mattholomew human appreciation club. Gus lies about Luz being unbanned. Willow Disapproves. Friction between Eda and Luz about Eda’s ability (interest) in teaching Luz magic. Eda talks to Bump; he’s cool with Luz but Eda has a long permanent record. More about illusion magic. Like how terrible Matt is. Skara gets dragged off by a griffin and later has a cute scene “friendship is the real magic” lol. Gus’ weird wristwatch. Ghosts are little purple goo things?? Luz upset that Gus lied. Why Gus lied: being younger than everyone is hard, you get ignored. Bump promises to not tell the EC about Eda, “I’m a principal not a stooge.” Willow went to help but didn’t get to do anything?

S1E10 OWLBERT YES. King treated like a child, younger than Luz. Eda out of commission due to curse flare up. Willow and Gus (they miss the bus to wait for Luz at Willow’s prompting). Parents get children places by giving rise on staff confirmed. Half-owl beast, Eda “suggestible”. King uses her; he should’ve known better. Potion doesn’t work. King snaps her out of it 😒. Love BQ. Love Owlbert plot. BQ was right. Willow and Gus sidelined again. Gus “became slightly traumatized. Hooray!” No closure on main 3; potions aren’t working on Eda’s curse anymore. Ends on BQ cute.

S1E11 King and Luz write Ruler’s Reach. Eda dealing with curse and Lilith. Lilith starts off looking for bloom of eternal youth for Belos? Eda goes to follow Lilith and she tells Luz she’s leaving to an undisclosed location for a few days and Luz is fine with that. Stakes are building gradually. Skara author fangirl. Premise of Luz and King seems off, framed as King controlling the story. But Luz seemed to be controlling it at first, neither seem good at collaborating. Fun commentary on creative industry. Sentient abomination? 12:06 (see also end of ep 9). Glimpses of s2 Lilith. Interesting look at her and Eda’s relationship: Eda saves her then pushes her over to get to the bloom first; ends on positive note with her waiting for Eda to choose to join.

S1E12 Luz is the one to ditch Eda and King this time, for Lumity build-up. Idea of Azura book club brought up. Amity is much nicer to Luz; the twins are much nicer to Amity. Magic requirement at Hexside. MENTOR EDA. She hasn’t taught Luz any new spells but she has been reading her books about wild magic. Same problem as Teen Abom? Thing where Eda’s teaching method doesn’t work for Luz. Luz steals Amity’s training wand and angers beast. Gets Eda and twins (parental?) captured. Amity cages Luz to keep her safe. That’s what forces Luz to take Eda’s advice and listen to nature. Meanwhile King brings toys to life so that they tremble before him. Hooty murders them (played dark). Love the lore, hate the plot.

S1E13 Luz’s Hexside entrance exam, v interesting. Eda offer for her to back out, Quitter Badge. King eating out of Hexside’s trashcans. Willow explains coven head banners. Basilisk impersonating EC official. Track system; rule book made by EC. Bump follows to get donation from EC. Crystal balls used by oracle track (not just tv) and contain future telling ghouls. Detention track (with Viney). Needs to wait a whole year to try another track? “Maybe you’d do better in a human school” from Bump. Peaks into other classes - oracle seeing to end of life. All of them in there for multitracking 😒. Willow and Gus pitted as antagonists. She is consistently the responsible one of the two. King teaches a class. Bump does try to protect Amity from basilisk. Bump 300 years until retirement joke. Glyph magic hurts basilisk. Bump character growth re multitrack.

S1E14 Really small problems. “ready for trauma” line. About a Ferris wheel that gives you nightmares. Eda profiting off of Luz the human as a freak show. Owlbert is back. Willow gets to take some initiative, is the responsible friend. King portrayed as a kid, younger than the others. Consistent anti-law message with the show. The crowd wanted to see kids eaten. King explains it as demons do crazy things when they miss someone?

S1E15 where did my notes go??? It’s understanding Willow. Willow is hilarious. Christmas-ish is canon. Angry inner Willow is great. There was something else I can’t remember. More about mindscapes? Willow remembers what happened in there.

S1E16 Grom. Starts with Luz re Camila (she’d be freaked out by the demon realm haha). Amity is reflexively mean, catches herself when it’s “Luz and co.” Eda says Luz is human, fragile, so condescending. That’s what motivates Luz to take Amity’s place. This has those good scenes of Luz lying to her mom about her emotions via text. If Grom isn’t defeated everyone on the island has to live out their worst nightmare. “What’s the fun in watching a kid get eaten by a monster if it’s my kid?” I love Eda. Willow is more popular/confident at school now. Gus as MC; calls glyphs human magic. Bonds with King. Immersion broken by annoying meta humor. Grom!Camila hits so much harder now. Lumity displaces touching Eda rescue. Love Skara. End bit with Camila, Vee sending her letters, so cute.

S1E17 sports. Boscha intro, parallels with Willow into in ASIAS? Willow is popular. Amity counters Boscha’s snide comments, she grew up from being obsessed with status and challenging competition. New type of ghost, looks like a ghost. Eda used to play grudby. Can’t reason with crazy. Boscha says Amity went soft after Grom. Not after understanding Willow? Boscha can get away with murder bc sports. Lilith is back. Hooty grabs her from the forest. She’s here to arrest Eda. The jacket Eda gave Luz is her grudgby thing. Skara is mean but only via background looks. Willow has never played grudgby before. Montage joke. Luz pushes too hard. Willow does a last second save like in ASIAS. Willow the realist I love her. Also more anger. Amity really got boring when she gets her crush thing. Eda beats Lilith at grudby, can’t go back empty handed, tell him I put up a good fight. Luz learns fire magic. Skara isn’t on team at the end; sits out bc Boscha rejected Luz’s forfeit? Or just alternate? Starts off good game Willow at the end I love her. Ep ends looking like Amity is joining the squad; deceit.

S1E18 so much plot omg. Kikimora: DOU is approaching, others have blind many rogue witches to covens. Hooty is such an effective intruder alarm. What happened to the magic repelling cloak? Owl beast forever fate worse than death. The kids are so brainwashed. Kiki is the emperor’s assistant. “Witches had access to corrupt knowledge and that dishonored the Titan.” So much. “Good luck with puberty” such good delivery. Belos is straight up consuming palismen in front of scouts and everyone. Also clearly bad health. Threatening Liltih. “Stripped of your rank and banished. You know what happens to covenless witches.” With the heartbeat. Hunter standing there covered head to toe absorbing all of this jfc. Willow and Gus are the best. Interesting. Lilith says “these decrepit relics are useless” when she destroys the healing hat, but Willow and Gus’ relics worked. I wonder if it really could have healed the curse. Scouts are definitely watching Eda and Lilith duel. Bs Eda “wasting her magic” before she knew Luz. Didn’t have to make Lilith go so hard just to up the stakes, have curse triggered some other way. Emotional takeout tho tbf. Owlbert rescues Luz. Interesting found family bit, Lilith “Eda is with her real family.” SUCH a downer ending I love it.

S1E19 the cloak “to a young witch from her proud mentor.” The dagger is back. Luz blaming herself. Lilith to Eda “this is for your own good.” Belos teleporting. Lilith says Eda will become “a useful asset to the coven.” Mechanical staff appears; he uses it to make Eda present in owl beast??? Luz the human on his radar, he wants the portal. Lied to Lilith “don’t be naive it’s the Titan’s will.” He tells her to destroy Owlbert; inconsistent? PERRY YES. Excuse for petrifying her is refusing to join a coven and attacking a coven leader lol yikes. Willow and Gus are talking on their scrolls. Luz hates Lilith. Luz blaming herself again. Eda wanting to protect her. We’re a family 🥺. “You have a family already. Go back to them.” Luz so vengeful against Lilith. [Lilith calls Belos the most powerful witch on the Isles.] Paints it as Eda as a kid worked harder than Lilith, not sure I agree. Apparently well-known Belos quote, “To be great you have to make sacrifices.” Flashback background appearance from Oralia and Alador. Owlbert used to prove Lilith is legit. Perry calls her “Head coven leader” Lilith (when she’s tossed in the petrification cage last minute. (But the spell only hits Eda.) Hunter shows up again at the end. Must be busy after this between the portal door and the “promotion.”

S2E10 Yesterday's Lie hits so much harder now. There is so much to explore with Camila and Vee's relationship. Both when Vee was pretending to be Luz and the immediate aftermath before the others showed up. And then the ending with Camila and Luz. Brutal. Also wish we could have seen Luz and Vee's relationship develop in TTT. Do they consider each other sisters now?

whilst ateez: it’s the strawberry kids!

the nickname is definitely cute, but lucy isn’t narrowing her eyes at the sun…

dwaekki-challenge! changbin’s the first to jump for the kids: and if you don’t already know the result— let’s just say the boy is absolutely blue-balled by the vaulting horse.

lucy definitely joins the chorus of gasps and oh’s, but god bless those organs of hers are completely internal. again, gender superpower.

I.N faking his jump by hiding behind the vault and all of the kids dragging him off the mat is teamwork at its finest. if everyone replicated this energy during phys ed, maybe the world would be a better place…

lee know, aka six-black-belts: martial arts expert is merely one of the forces to be reckoned with in stray kids. the duality of this man’s athletic ability is no joke, in fact— it’s sexy as hell.

but according to ikon, stray kids are their rivals today— and martial arts doesn’t necessarily contribute vaulting. though they may have a point, the innate flexibility that comes with it helps lee know easily clear the height (to his own surprise).

it definitely gives lucy a kick in her step when groups wanna fight for no good reason. despite how much she admires her ikon oppas, she’ll always be extra protective of her members.

bobby is however an exception, considering the faith he has in his members is non-existent and hilarious.

felix and lucy (who follow lee know) also have a black belt in taekwondo! consider the three of them the martial art kittens!

whilst felix has trained for twelve years, lucy’s trained for half the amount of time (starting at seven years old and stopping when she moved to korea at fourteen/fifteen).

korean vs aussie line: yongbok (noona), hwaiting! let’s go, felix (lucy)!

and as felix makes the first jump/flops like a rag doll, lucy also succeeds but lands up straight like a needle.

she grins and makes a heart with her fingers at the camera like the cheese that she is.

felix and lucy might also be the only two members that can do the splits without difficulty, so their jumps are insanely clean (almost professional-gymnast-worthy).

everyone is amazed! equal cheering energy especially as seungmin, han and chan also all succeed in jumping the vault.

ace member chan just being extra when he crosses his legs mid air (he is definitely not raising a brow at an easily-impressed-but-trying-to-hide-it lucy).

lucy cheers for btob like there’s no tomorrow but is also very amused by eunkwang adjusting the springboard to help him make the jump.

not pretty boy juyeon blowing a cheeky kiss to lucy when he successfully jumps the vault…

no one signed up for this reverse harem composed of almost 40 members, but that’s essentially what the show’s become.

lucy immediately turns her head (with seungmin force-turning her entire body around) but the damage has been done: chan’s competitive dial’s turned to eleven.

though the boyz all make it over the vault, lucy only visibly responds to the adorable changmin making a peace sign at her and kevin twerking for screen time. basically the 98’ liners @ lucy: it’s free real estate.

it’s ateez’ turn to vault! yeosang’s cheater jump (boss level moves honestly) and respectfully-bowing hongjoong after his hip collides with vault earns a giggle from lucy.

hongjoong: 10cm makes a difference!

lee know, felix, jeongin: really?

the look on chan’s face is just— sure it does, because the man’s ego has to be inflated in order to impress his girl.

lucy doesn’t reply to either party but her grin totally says, that’s what she said.

seungmin, han and felix don’t make it to the semi-finals because the vault is just way too high (2m and 20cm) and intimidating, but the 98’ duo: seeknow (lucy and lee know) do!

chan: why are you guys still here?

lee know: i dunno, why am i here?

lucy: we’re just built different,

lee know’s butt unfortunately catches the edge of the vault during his jump and he fails: but lucy and chan rush to him to make sure he’s okay.

lucy, on the other hand, is a fucking monster. the girl can lift her weight and more, which is essentially half of the battle. she clears the monstrous height like the kangaroo that she is, which earns a profound scream from both wooyoung and changbin at the sidelines.

changbin: holy shit! what the hell was that?

wooyoung, who follows lucy also garners the same energy from the mc panel.

lucy hi-fives the boy which makes him all giddy and smiley: the bunny from ilsan truly adores his noona.

and speaking of kangaroos, sulky chan wants a hi-five too!

he clears the vault without any struggle, but is rewarded with an awkward fist bump instead (he really thought she was gonna go in for a five). good stuff!

and that’s the exact moment chan makes the crazy bet he’s out for minhyuk’s vaulting king title. the boy is a lucy-pleaser and everyone on the field can feel it.

minhyuk (to chan): okay, hwaiting, i guess!

the man definitely makes the finals with the others, along with juyeon (the i-9’s only remaining member).

2m and 30cm is the deciding height of the final vault, to which lucy is looking straight up at. she visibly gulps. yeah, no biggie. she knows she doesn’t have the speed for this, but she’ll try because she can.

wooyoung and juyeon are first up! they unfortunately don’t make the height and topple the entire vault down to the mat with them. lucy reassures them it’s okay and praises their amazing skills thus far.

chan: ladies first,

lucy: oh, you’re gonna pull that card now—

but really it’s his excuse not to put pressure on her if/when he succeeds. it’s kind of him, but lucy sees right through it.

stray kids: you can do it!

felix: let’s go!

without the right amount of speed, lucy knows she can’t clear the height. she doesn’t panic (unlike the rest of the boys on the field that think she’s about to hurt herself), rather she knows to intentionally wedge her foot in the vaulting horse and climb on top of it.

she just sighs and shrugs— which is adorable (even when she’s two metres in the air) and still receives plenty of praise and cheer. so close!

chan: you were really close,

lucy: thanks, hot shot. and good luck! just don’t die, okay?

the boy nods obediently, happy that the girl always has her full faith in him.

chan and minhyuk clear 2m and 30cm to fight for 2m and 40cm (basically insanity): to which they tie as vaulting champions.

lucy is endeared when chan reveals that the vault’s height scared him as he approached it, but tries to put his mind at rest by comparing it to the height of a basketball player. you’d have to have superpowers to jump over something taller than yao ming,

chan: i guess that’s true,

also, she’s definitely not afraid to repeat his words (which are really her words she used to tell him back when they were still trainees): small packages come with big surprises!

but the vaulting competition finishes just in time for lunch: fried chicken, the kids’ favourite!

mini game of the day: who is the visual king?

lucy: well, shit— i guess i’m out.

chan: yeah, i’m going home.

lucy (death glare): how dare you?

chan: sorry. but it does say you can vote for yourself.

han: who in their right mind would do that though?

chan and lucy in perfect sync: you.

han: damn, you guys are right.

but he’s not alone: changbin can’t lie so he votes for himself (like the king he is).

seonghwa voting for felix makes me uwu everytime…

the look of absolute betrayal on his hyungs’ faces when i.n tells them he voted for juyeon (i mean, he’s not wrong though).

everyone preparing for themselves to be announced as the winners, but it’s eunkwang (btob) and hyunjae (the boyz) in fourth place, sunwoo (the boyz) in third, felix in second and minhyuk (btob) in first!

not peniel hugging changbin when he loses to felix.

felix and minhyuk finding out they voted for each other is just tooth-rotting stuff. good boy!

but the likely question in everyone’s minds is: who did the girl vote for?

trick question or—? nope, lucy also voted for felix.

and of course she did, he’s her sunshine after all.

lucy (to chan): you voted for felix too, right?

chan: yeah,

but it’s the fattest lie of the century: the boy, without any hesitation, wrote lucy down as the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen (cut wasn’t aired on national tv though, that’s for sure).

the final games for the day are balloon tail and a relay race: lucy is unfortunately forced to opt out of the rough-housing/tackling and doesn’t consider herself a speedy runner (more stamina-based), so she joins changbin on the mc panel during the afternoon.

lucy (referring to herself and changbin): yep, that’s us— the designated cheerleaders.

mc changmin: i thought you guys were the ace members of your team, are you sure you want to be here?

changbin: well, it’s true we’re the ace members. but that’s exactly why we’re here— we want our members to stand out more.

younghoon: that’s how the i-9 will beat you guys though,

lucy (happily): yeah? try us then.

the girl’s definitely got a sense of humour that the general korean public probably hate, but the international fans adore.

anyway, the highlight of lucy’s day is obviously seeing her team go from fifth to second place during the circular relay.

chan running is always a joy to watch: same vibes as watching your first crush compete in the school athletics and win.

the day ends with everyone completely exhausted, but at least everyone had fun as well as created life-lasting bonds/friendships: in other words, fuck mnet and their contests— just give us more collaborations.
