On recapkidd/ang

So news is getting around about ang's unfortunate fate as they're allegedly on EOL (end of life) care after being unable to access health insurance from being deprived industry jobs. It's true that zadr (p*rn) is what kick started these events but it was not just invader zim fans that did this. This was, based on the timeline and evidence, a calculated attack from a few of ang's previous friends and acquaintances

So here's a run down, you can make your own judgements but here is the best I can offer as a timeline of events. PLEASE BE AWARE i am linking some twitter accounts that may have nsfw content! I am only linking to specific tweets with nothing explicit in them but I cannot promise the accounts themselves are clean.

This document is directly from ang themself, and gives a pretty detailed timeline of when this started (~2020) and features the most prominent ringleaders (jeraspat, holly, kyle, tai). i'll abbreviate it regardless but i highly recommend you read it

Ang's response

Basically, BEFORE their account as reapkid they joined jera's friendgroup. This group, for reasons unrelated to ang but they joined in the moment of, fell apart. If you've ever been unlucky enough to experience this you know where this goes, Ang's addition was blamed as the reason it fell apart.

Eventually Ang separated from this group but due to the scapegoat status and Jera's idolization of them (which you can read about in the doc) it wasn't over. This point is when Ang started drawing zadr and we knew them as recapkid here on tumblr. Jera is the primary reason Ang was targeted for this because as we all know after florpus release there was uptick in anti-zadr sentiment. What happens next is a long process of callouts by multiple different users and eventual doxxing of ang.

There's some max v jera drama (jera's callout for max, any orange block out is ang's name) that drags ang in but that wasn't the killing blow. tai (toydrill on twit)'s call out is what dealt the most damage. This almost definitively drove everyone away from ang. if you want to read the tweets and replies here it is. it isn't full of receipts like a typical callout but it does lead into the subsequent events.

Something important to note is the people turning against ang have their own taboo aspects and i want to point those out. tai has an obsession with a character from venture bros that is a "redeemed pedophile", vince (former friend of ang who was lamenting in the comments of tais tweet) was allegedly into monster furry porn so egregious that it made others call him a zoophile. my point here is that these people who crucified ang had their own questionable fictional tastes but justified it for their own benefit, their own moral stance doesn't hold up. That is not me passing judgement, just an aspect of the behaviors exhibited to consider that most people learning about the issue don't know about.

what happens next is a domino effect of people responding again i urge you to read the doc, this is the point i think that people turned on ang BECAUSE of invader zim. More of jera's friends get dragged in to antagonize ang, something important to remember is this was deliberate attacking they did not leave ang alone.

It starts to cross over into reality with holly (creator of lemonhead and lollipup, if youre familiar) who makes a callout post tagging all of ang's real friends and employers. Holly exhibited some strange behaviors in their relationship with Ang which is all documented but again, I am just focusing on the callouts.

Something I want to stress as Ang does in the document is that while Holly did go after their irl support system they did not get them fired from any job at this point for any online behavior. This is however setting up the eventual blacklisting that Ang suffered from, preventing them from work because of the public spectacle. Holly's narrative that Ang claimed they were fired for this did however impact some of their relations specifically from spindlehorse who believed ang was using them as a scapegoat and eventually viv cut off communication with them.

Ang worked on the mighty magiswords show and the show creator, kyle carrozza, allegedly spread their private nsfw content with coworkers and DID fire them for that reason after the callouts. This is the first documented case that I'm aware of of Ang being fired for this specifically. Here is Ang's account of it.

I want to highlight holly's response and call to action here, as it proves that this was not done out of a genuine need to keep others safe (or that ang was ever dangerous to begin with) but because of petty reasons. especially considering the behavior documented.

What happens after is an inability to get and keep jobs and being cut off from their health insurance. No, invader zim fans didn't get ang killed (they were a rather big part of it but alone that is not the issue). According to their friend puppy on twitter it wasn't just social backlash, it was also the flaws of the US healthcare system. It was unfortunately interconnected, especially when it's an industry that hinges on connections.

You can have your opinions on ang's content. You can have your opinions on how they responded. You can believe ang is leaving out a lot of information (based on all the info provided in the document im hard pressed to believe that is the case, but i digress) and you can believe that the industry can choose what content they think is permissible to work with (though the industry has and still does protect active predators, and people pick and choose which individuals they want to blacklist. rebecca sugar, anyone?)

The bottom line is this didnt start out as a moral issue, it started as a personal issue between friends. morality and fiction were simply an easy selling point, buzzwords to get people to rally on their side. the fact remains it was a years long orchestrated attack on someone that ultimately impacted their health and later their life.

OHHH HOOHHH I HAVE OPINIONS ABOUT THIS ONE. and im mostly refering to this poll as my mesurement of the fandom and i am genuinely shocked blue got the lowest amount of votes. i get where the ppl who think its pink are coming from but i am coming at this question biologically speaking and metaphorically speaking.

k so, in real life, there are animals that exist that have blue colored blood, mostly cephelopods/lobsters and sometimes [you guessed it], BUGS! [rollypollys and spiders have blue blood]. i took real life knowlege of animals into account when making my version of irken anatomy.[WHICHSOMEONESHOULDASKMEABOUT-], anyways, human skin and fat, like pure skin/fat itself, is a transparent[ish] yellow[this is why (unmelanited) skin is a light orange/peach]. blue + yellow is green[besides my irkens lean more towards a turquoise then green anyways].

dont even get me started on my color metaphors in my headcanons/works.

human blood is red, a color I assosiate with irkens and zim especially. red's color connotation says that red is a color of passion, anger, life(pay attention to this last one it will come in handy if you read my works hehe).

irken blood i headcanon as blue, a color assosiated with dib [listen ive got the zadr worms on the brain okay??]. Zim and Dib were always suposed to be on the same level, a stalemate, yk? i use this part of them to represent that, that they ultimately are the same. theres a way to express this in better terms but i cant think of it rn :P

The results of your mpreg poll was disappointing and sadly not unexpected. I had a feeling the results would reflect how the fandom usually is about Stolas. All attention on him, obviously he's the only one who gets to be preg... it just sucks for Blitzo. Where's the love for Blitzpreg? Hell, where's the love for trans Blitzo? I guess there are more Blitzpreg fics because there's more of a story to tell? But it's strange that there's no art to be found, almost seems to be due to peer pressure?

Also tfw I draw my Stolitz fanchild OC and people immediately assume they came from an egg like the others, because obviously only Stolas could have given birth to them? No?? My fanchild is the result of Blitzpreg, thank you very much. I feel odd about my OC being rounded up with the other fankids under the banner "Stolas's many eggs" because mine didn't come from an egg. I guess I'm taken aback by the automatic assumption. Do I really need to make it clear that I like Blitzpreg?

I haven't been included in any of those roundups, but I'm not being followed by most of those people, so it's not like it's a slight against me or anything. I can definitely see how that would be frustrating, though, (if anybody did it with Stella I'd be pretty damn annoyed considering her being Blitzo's is kind of the whole point of my fic) and having everyone automatically group it into just eggs from just Stolas, I assume mostly because of Dani is... frustrating, yeah. (I'm not particularly a fan of Dani and have had her muted for something like a year now. This last week has been a very mixed bag of 'I'm glad people are having fun, but ughhhh.') There are other options- even if it wasn't Stolas, both Blitzo and magic are options if it's their bio kid. Magic took a pretty decent second place, after all.

I've puzzled over 'why are there a bunch of fics but I never see it outside of said fics/ao3' a lot- from what I dug up from the older years of the IZ fandom (and this wasn't extensive, by any means- I'm sure plenty of it was lost on old sites) there was a similar divide with Zim/Dib preg content, with Zim getting more fics and Dib getting more art. I think in both HB and IZ, 'there's more of a story to the one that gets the fics' is probably at least part of it, but it was a lot more... idk, even with Zim. Like, I still saw Zim art, and one of the biggest fics had Dib instead, (thanks Zadr Orange, for being incredibly OOC but also helping make me Like This) it was just the balance was slightly tilted towards one of them each way. Here, the fics are roughly 2:1 for Blitzo (although that may change in the coming weeks) but the actual fankids/art tilt way more heavily to Stolas.

I genuinely like the headcanon of trans Blitzo, (and wonder a bit why intersex Fizz is a thing but not any of the other main characters?) and y'all know I like to think of imp sex as a lot looser than it is for humans (and for humans, it's already a whole spectrum!). Plus, having to stick with cloaca 'because he's a bird' when he's a humanoid demon, anything would make sense, and a cloaca isn't actually a pussy, my dude... it's not something that should have really been argued as hard as it was. Sure, transphobic shitheads can choke and I have zero problems with it as a general headcanon/idea, but I've seen people who were told they needed to change their art because they drew Stolas with a dick because they weren't on twitter during the two days the Discourse was raging, like that's not inappropriate in itself.

Anyway. That was kinda off topic. If you want to shoot me a dm or something I'm generally free to chat, I just usually don't want to ruin anybody's fun so I just try and boost up mine and Emmie's Blitzo stuff more, and getting to salt a little was kind of cathartic.

Okay, so like, some of you guys have been asking for me to upload some of my works here, so here I go at last. Please don't hurt me. ; v ;

My name is Pat and I'm one of the original authors for that god-awful ZADR fanfic, "ZADR Orange." It's likely one of the cringiest fanfics I've ever written in my life, but like, also the thing that has been feeding my soul for the past 10 years of working on it. The beginning is rushed and terrible, the characters are OOC, and my writing from back then is just...blah. HOWEVER it's become something I can't let go of and so I continue to plague the fandom with its continued existence even after all these years of posting. Some people have come to love it, others hate it to its core, but for me, it's that thing that has given my life purpose (as stupid as that may sound). It's pushed me to make improvements in my writing, even if you can't necessarily see those improvements in the earliest chapters of the work (and by earliest chapters, I mean like the first 150 of them. Yep, that's how long it took me to not suck as much as I did back then). To this day, I continue to upload new content and VERY SLOWLY make revisions to its beginning. Perhaps someday it will be a halfway decent work of fiction in the fandom and not a target for criticism as mentioned in this hate Wiki:  https://toxicfandomsandhatedoms.miraheze.org/wiki/Invader_Zim_Fandom (which I really can't argue with. There are like a million other fics posted in this fandom that far surpass anything that I could ever hope to write, but still, I strive to improve my works constantly. I know I've gotten a lot of love and support from some fans over the years, but my inner critic is always there to remind me that if I hadn't been the one to write it myself, I likely would have passed it up as a reader simply for its rushed formatting, dialogue, and word flow. Also for the copious amounts of pointless filler word vomit I tend to get into because I think it's interesting at the time only to realize later that I was simply rambling. But ah well. That's just how it goes sometimes, especially when writing an RP (Oh, did I mention that this story was originally a role play with another person? Yeah, there's that too. Since I was the one writing our parts into narrative though, I feel solely responsible for butchering what could have been a decent story if I just hadn't rushed the beginning bits so much). Umm...But yeah, anyways, moving on.

As I mentioned above, this story has also been accused of portraying the characters as WAY OOC from the show. Once again, my fault because I have a tendency towards writing Dib as a whiny little overemotional bitch most of the time. Sorry about that. ; v ; It's a preference in most of my writing with him though. To me personally, what makes ZADR so appealing in the long run, is exploring the emotional torment of somebody who has been called crazy all his life. Dib is just the saddest little stubborn panda bear in all of my writing and I heavily prefer works in which he is the submissive to Zim. Like, Zim is adorable in his own right, but I can't imagine him simply surrendering his dominance to Dib, regardless of how much taller Dib might ever grow. Plus, in my head, Dib will always be that hopeless virgin type of character (even if Zim IS fucking his brains out half the time in my works). Zim's not as clueless as he may seem sometimes either. Like, he's lived a whole other life long before he came to Earth. I imagine he's seen some things and experienced more in his life than Dib has, even if one of the main consensus is that Irken's mature more slowly than humans. Irken society is very different from human society in my mind so I imagine some things are more normal for Irkens than other things (but I won't get into that here. That's a post for a different point in time.)

Whoo boy, this is getting long, and I haven't even posted a link to the actual story yet. ; v ; I guess what I'm trying to say though is that I have a very personal way of viewing and portraying the characters in my work. Perhaps that's why it gets both positive and negative feedback from people. I don't expect everybody to agree with or even like my work, but I simply ask that it not be crushed into the ground for its flaws. Above all else, I write my stories for fun and to see my own improvement. And yes, I know it may seem weird that I'm so paranoid about advertising a work that's been present in this fandom for YEARS now (especially as it used to be advertised quite a lot back when I was still writing it with my co-writer), but let's just say this fandom has left me with some pretty nasty battle scars in the past. I know the haters will always exist and they're better off ignored, but I've had to see close friends come and go from this fandom as a result of that hate. I don't understand the fixation some people have with drama in this fandom. Yes, you're entitled to an opinion, but please don't shove it in other people's faces. It's like some people enjoy intentionally being assholes online and trying to ruin other people's fun. I've tried to distance myself from that sort of hatred because I don't need that sort of stress in my life any longer. But in doing so, it DOES make it harder to interact with the nicer fans out there/continue posting my works, regardless of how long I've been in the fandom. Also, I was kind of an attack dog back in the day when it came to defending some of my friends, which kind of put me in a bad light to some people in the fandom for a while. Whoops. My bad. As much as I hated that sort of drama, I was always the first to jump in and make an ass of myself when it came to defending my friend. Hahaha. <XD

Day 2!!! “What did you do?!”

“Laugh it up.” Dib said defensively. “Hair dye, it’s a thing, not that you would know, space-boy.”

The tragedy began, as most tragedies do- with a right-willed protagonist with the misfortune of misguided hubris. It was easy enough for Dib to be caught up in the moment, nabbing his sister’s handheld console as he spotted a familiar figure on the screen.

“You get to play as the Loch Ness monster and you’re choosing some lame warrior?”

“Give it back.” The words, ever so innocuous, sounded downright threatening from her mouth, which was pinched in a scowl. “I am not going through an hour of cut scenes to get there again.”

“It has good stats and everything!”

“I’m warning you.”

“The lore is muddy but close enough! You should at least try it, how bad could it be?”

Gaz felt generous enough to allow her brother a few more seconds of geeking out. That, and the fact that Dib could be fast when he wanted to, dodging out of her grasp easily almost like reflex.

All thoughts of generosity flew out of the bulletproof Membrane enterprise window as Dib sheepishly handed her the console, the screen flashing with congratulations on choosing the character.

All for Dib’s paranormal obsession of the hour. Gaz cracked her knuckles audibly, and left to get a sedative.

“Aughhh… wha-?” It took Dib a moment to place where he was. While waking up on the floor was unusual to him, it usually happened in his room, whenever he’d slumped down after having a particularly tricky battle.

A few bots watched him, and that’s when the place finally clicked. That’s it, she was going to feed him to her robots- he screamed.

A pillow knocked him back.

“They’re off. For now.”

Dib turned. Gaz’s eyes weren’t on him, they were on her console- he was safe for now. But the question remained, why she’d brought him here?

When the panic faded as did his surprise, he noticed that his hair was uncomfortably damp, and reeking of a chemical scent.

“I did warn you.” She said. “I thought about dying your hair a garish color. Something appalling. Maybe green or orange.”

She paused to kill another character on screen. “But the Loch Ness monster had cloaking abilities, perfect for a rouge-like playthrough. Not the worst decision you’ve left me with. Your hair is safe for now- minus the… hm.” She took a moment to toss him a mirror.

He peeked through it and made a face. His hair was bright and pale. “The Swollen Eyeball would never take me seriously with this!”

Any plans of cornering Zim would be second in the meantime, he’d have to get black dye.

“Like they took you seriously to begin with?” Gaz scoffed, but Dib knew it was teasing.

“Well it looks unnatural. On me. Why’d you even have this stuff?” Investigator at heart, he wouldn’t pass this opportunity to take notes on Gaz’s room. She was in a good mood, a bit unlikelier for her to toss him out immediately.

The beeping of her console never paused, but the clatter of her hands on the buttons slowed. “Right, I wouldn't know anything about unnatural hair colors,” She said, the sarcasm thick on her tongue. “What do people usually use hair coloring products for?”

“You wanted to change your hair?”

“Unprecedented astute observation. That’s a first for you, Dib.”

Protective wasn’t usually his role with his sister, especially since she was more than capable of handling others. “Are you okay?”

She sighed, forced and drawn out. “I conceded to you about Nessie. Better take it before I cut your hair off entirely by staying too long.”

“You brought me here!”

“Out.”

“Alright, alright.” Dib sauntered to the door, then paused. “Your hair’s not weird, Gaz.”

Gaz knew she could ignore it. But Dib rarely noticed anything other than his paranormal obsession. She could see where this goes. “You have a stalk on your head. You don’t get any bearing on what’s weird.”

“But still.” Dib shuffled on his feet. “Do you still have your hair coloring things?”

She turned away from her game, squinting at him. “I don’t have black, if that’s what you’re asking.”

“Do you have a color that’s similar to yours?”

She stared at him for a while, deliberating. Then, she closed her console. “I’ll mix something up.”

The hair dryer was loud to his ears, not to mention a bit searing when held in place for too long, but they were nearly done. She worked on him so silently, only every so often humming a note.

Dib didn’t mind. If anything, it was relaxing.

“You’re not going to be popular in this.” Gaz stated, as she felt the hair looked close to done.

“People already call me freak, I don’t think there’s anything new there.”

Gaz hummed, ignoring the unintended implication. “I tried smoothing out your stalk, but…”

Dib could already picture his hair, unaffected by gravity. “Ha, good luck with that. Maybe it’s a mutation.”

The two then thought of the imposing figure of Professor Membrane.

“Nah,” they chorused.

She gave his hair a once-over and gave a light nod. “There goes you being emo.”

“The emos died a long time ago. And I never was.”

She made a face and handed him a mirror. “Sure, edgelord. Congrats on unleashing your pastel self.”

“Wouldn’t that imply that you’re…”

“Labeling me, Dib?”

“Gamer.”

She didn’t acknowledge his backpedal, but she was pleased that her intimidation goes so far.

She pushed the mirror more insistently towards him.

Dib blinked at his reflection. It was awful. He wasn’t used to seeing color on his head, never mind one that’s really bright. Gaz waited for his reaction. “I like it,” he finally said.

She snorted, a sound that managed to be sarcastic, and ruffled his hair roughly. “Dark blue next time. And Dib?”

He perked up.

“Get out of my room.”

Dib didn’t wait for her to get the bots live again, and just went with it. The gruffness of their norm was still there, and he never expected less, but it was nice to be invited again, even if she was, for now, kicking him out.

Dib wasn’t in a hurry to get into school the next day. If not for Gaz waiting on him to go, he would’ve delayed the inevitable for as long as possible, in small part due to the dread of how obnoxious Zim was going to be.

Gaz barely glanced at him when they parted at the school gates, which was fine by him. Best not to have an audience when-

“Dib-stink!” There it was.

The Irken sauntered up to him and pointed to his hair. Blunt as usual, then.

“What did you do?!”

“Laugh it up.” Dib said defensively. “Hair dye, it’s a thing, not that you would know, space-boy.”

Zim wasn’t laughing. If anything, he looked… impressed.

Zim nodded at him. “Rebelling against your code, then? I, too, never did too well being stuck in a role I didn’t want.” His antennas longed to twitch from under his wig, as he deliberated. “I suppose even humans could rebel, even in something as inefficient as appearance....”

Dib didn’t think Zim could be quite civil. He must be plotting something.

“As for the color…” It was highly reminiscent of the one that the current Tallest had, the association too blatant to ignore, but to Zim, it was a dangerous one. Zim wasn’t the type to follow Tallest trends, but if Dib himself was showing subservience to the glory of the Tallests…

“You look good.”

Dib spluttered, choking on air, face red.

Zim only looked at him with admiration for the rest of the day, which only highly confused and flustered Dib.

And if Zim suddenly turned up to school with bright red hair- Dib made sure to say it looked good, too, even if he wasn’t sure himself.

Of course, when Zim began to sprout how much they matched- Dib put that thing to a stop, fast.

I just had a zadr dream.

So there was this new girl and she started getting along with Dib, which made Zim jealous. So Dib was like “dude, I’m not going to replace you”. And Zim was like “you better not, idiot”. But one day Dib asked the new girl for some gum, and well she gave some to him. (I remember it was especially orange gum) And that was the last straw for Zim. So he yelled at the new girl, and then dragged Dib into the restroom. And they start fighting. And everyone is trying to stop them. And suddenly Gaz and Tak are there. And Tak has a gun, with some sort of love potion ammo. And she starts shooting but keeps missing, making several people and objects kiss. Finally she hits Zim and Dib, and they calm down for a sec, and then they start furiously making out. Also the love potion fell onto the floor and now Gaz and Tak are kissing. And the next day Zim and Dib are in some sort of makeshift bedroom in school. And they are looking at some shipping art the new girl made for them. And then they kiss... And I woke up.

What started off as a fun side project turned into an actual paying job. I’ve never really done painting of shoes up until this project but had a blast doing so.
