EMPATHY - Desperation settles in the lieutenant's tone. Sadly, you find yourself in agreement, even if you don’t want it to be the truth.

KIM KITSURAGI - Before you can say anything more, you fail to notice the lieutenant carefully walking onto the edge of the ice. He looks over the frigid water, a dizzying blue that mirrors and distorts his exhausted face back to him.

KIM KITSURAGI - Seconds pass as he looks to be contemplating something. Out of nowhere, he casually takes another step where the ice ends and the sea begins. It happens all too quick for the lieutenant to even voice a call for help— if he even wanted to — his body plunging into the cold water before your eyes.

I wrote a longer and more overwrought version of this post when I was slightly drunker (yay distillery book club) but the shorter, more sober-clarity version is: it's so ridiculous that about 50% of my current fandom experience is based on things that are now 25 years old (thanks for the reminder, lucasfilm) and yet I'm terrified of being left behind because I 'can't move on' from something that is now barely 5 years old

you could probably attempt to make some sort of sweeping statement about this, like the lifespan of media now versus the early 00s, but what it's really about is my own issues with abandonment which is affecting both my ability to move on (I really struggle with the 'crew breaks up between installment thing', always have) and also the general fear of behind left behind, rather than any real trends in fandom as a whole

#to be clear this was a youth group students v. leaders battle #which meant that the leaders were greatly outnumbered by the kids HOWEVER #one of the leaders is Known for being hard to beat at nerf and laser tag. and I know which nerf gun to use and am #really really good at genuinely aiming with it. I'm basically the sniper of whatever team I'm on #however tonight we set up tipped over tables as obstacles and they're REALLY hard to see over or aim around #so at some point when it wasn't looking good for us leaders I decided it was time for a swan song. a glamorous sacrifice as it were. #I can aim REALLY WELL if I'm standing. so I got up and started walking and sniping and I got at least two or three out #before I got hit myself. #also it's an INCREDIBLE advantage to be one of the only people who DOESN'T have to wear a blurry clunky mask/goggles #because my glasses lenses are plastic already so I don't have to worry about that.
