part of the VIXX Parallel Collab  hosted by @uwugalore , I chose the song Scentist to use as a base of this fic
The night was so cold. It was the first thing you noticed as you walked down the dark alleyway.
Perhaps it was because your clothes were scant - the short dress was just catching the curve of your ass, the thin fabric being held to your frame by spaghetti straps that left you open to the sharp cold of the night.
The scent of the alleyway was the first thing you noticed, the damp trash and smell of piss lingered in your nose as you walked briskly toward the darkened end. Your face instinctively scrunched in disgust as the smell heightened.
Relief washed over you as you reached your destination. The metal door was brown with rust at the edges and looked like it could barely open, yet you still knocked.
It was loud in the dark alleyway, but was concealed by the bustling city the secret corner resided in. It was answered quickly though, the hallway dark and concealed as a man stood at the door.
He was dressed in a suit, the white shirt matching his white hair which was a contrast to the navy jacket and matching slacks. The outfit was obviously tailored to fit his broad figure, the delicate chains attached to his suit accentuated the professionality this stranger carried himself with. He said nothing as he opened the door wider for you, a silent invitation for you to enter, which you accepted, neither of you speaking as he lead you down the darkened hallway.
He was handsome, filled out and muscular, rings adorned his fingers while his sharp and stern features added to his cold demeanour.
Though despite his coldness you could still notice the way his eyes lingered on your curves, how his gaze was steely yet clouded with an arousal you seemed to ignite in a lot of men. Noticing this wasn’t you being cocky - it was part of your job within the Yakuza family, Sumiyoshi-kai - to seduce targets, scope them out for information. And you knew you were good at your job as you were the favorite of the boss’ son.
The stranger lead you towards the end of the darkened hallway, walking you down cemented stairs and into a basement room with cement walls, another metal door and a dim light that dangled from the ceiling of the small space.
“Strip,” His voice was steel much like himself, his gaze situated on your face as he commanded you, “We can’t have any bugs or wires on anyone going in.”
You cocked an eyebrow, a small smirk tugging at your lips as you slipped the thin straps off your shoulders, “Most people take me out for dinner first,” you responded, letting your small dress fall to the floor and reveal your naked form underneath.
His gaze raked down your body, eyes widening a bit as he realised you were bare underneath, yet that was the only reaction you got out of him.
“You’re clear,” He spoke the words gruffly, still watching your body as you redressed.
Though he was quick to turn around once the dress was back on your body, his thumb pressing against a finger scanner that allowed him access through the door. He held it open for you, gesturing for you to walk in.
The room was white; the walls, the floor, the ceiling, the lighting, the appliances - all a sterile bleached tone that hurt your eyes to look at. Though there were spots of red as you realised the room was half dedicated to displaying a red substance within skull shaped glasses along a large shelf which took up the back wall. The centrepiece of the room seemed to be an encased dead tree along with metre high pillars that had the same liquid filled skulls sat atop them. There was also a strange piano sat off to the other side with tubing and jars filled with the same red substance attached to it, which only heightened your curiosity toward the set up.
The whole setting intrigued you, yet you didn’t question it as you walked in, letting the stranger lead you to a door off to the back corner.
“He’s waiting for you in there,” His tone was still gruff, not wavering as he knocked on the white surface to let the man inside know you were there.
The person inside opened the door, his expression just as steely and stagnant as the white haired man that led you in. Though as you studied his features, you couldn’t help but feel more attracted to him, his eyes held a sparkle to them that the other man didn’t have, one that said he was more willing to play with you.
He said something to the stranger that guided you in another language, you figured it was korean considering they were a korean group working for the biggest yakuza organisation.
“Come in,” He spoke to you, his blue shaded hair falling around his eyes as he opened the door wider for you to walk in.
You nodded in response, following him into the room after him. A sense of shock and numbness gripped your body as the scent of the room hit you. It was sweet and intoxicating, reeling you and winding you up as you breathed it in deeper. There was a hue to the room that made it seem to pulsate, as if it was alive and breathing the same swirls of air as you.
“I believe you’re here on interest towards our product,” His voice was as intoxicating as the smell, your body turning to face him. He was handsome, attractive in the carefree way he lounged against the wall and let the mussed blue strands of hair fall around his eyes.
“Yes, my friend is a subordinate within the Yamaguchi-gumi, he asked me to come here for him,” Your tone was unbothered, matching the demeanour of the man in front of you.
“What’s your name?” He pushed himself off the wall, closing the gap between you both to grab your jaw gently, the pads of his fingers craning your neck and making you look into his eyes.
“y/n,” You kept calm, your body used to men touching you without asking.
“What were you told exactly about the drug that we’re selling, y/n?” His eyes looked into your own, as if he was trying to read your thoughts through the orbs.
“I wasn’t told anything about, really.” Your voice was breathless, the scent of this stranger hitting you with such an intensity you could barely breathe. It was captivating, making your body desperate to itch closer; to touch, to explore, to taste, he was pulling you in with just the smell.
“It's not a regular drug, sweetheart,” His hand slipped from your jaw to trailing down your hip, the fingertips dancing across the thin fabric, “It's not for getting yourself high,” He leant toward you slightly, bringing his body closer to yours as his lips brushed against the shell of your ear, “Its for getting others high.”
You were confused at the statement, your brow furrowing as you let the words register in your brain, “But that doesn’t make sense?”
The stranger chuckled, his fingers digging into your hips as he pulled you flush against his body, “Can I show you, sweetheart?” His lips ran across your jaw, placing a chaste kiss to the skin as he felt you melt beneath his touch.
“Y-Yes,” You were under the haze, letting him take control as he guided you backwards until the cold sting of unforgiving metal dug into the curve of your ass. The stranger’s fingers danced along your inner thigh as he lifted you onto the metal table you barely had registered was there.
His lips were on yours, coaxing you toward his body as his fingers slipped under the hem of your dress, pulling the material up your hips and revealing your soaked sex. He couldn’t help but smirk as he relished in the fact you weren’t wearing any underwear.
You whined into the kiss, your hands desperate to pull the suit jacket off of him, your fingers itching to touch and explore him. Though, he stopped you, his grip tight on your wrists as one of his hands slipped from your hip to pin you against the unforgiving metal.
It was cold and steely as you laid down on the table, your back arching and a whimper falling off your lips as you realised the compromising position you were in. Yet it only added to the fun; the stranger smirking as he brought his finger to swipe down your drenched slit, the action causing a moan to fall off your lips and your nipples to harden against the thin fabric of your dress.
“Sweetheart,” He accentuated the nickname with a press down on your clit, the dissatisfied bundle sending white hot pleasure coursing through you, “This isn’t a normal drug,” He continued to stroke and play with your clit, making sure you were getting worked up as he spoke, “You see how pleasurable you’re feeling, like nothing else could make you feel this good?”
You whimpered, a muttered ‘yes’ falling off your hips as you continued to grind down onto his thumb, his grip still pinning you in place as he pleased you. The stranger smirked, leaning in to whisper in your ear as he rubbed harder against your desperate core; “That’s the drug.”
Your body jolted as you registered what he was saying, your thoughts clouded with the pleasure he was giving you yet still confused by what he was saying. “What do you-”
“You’re from the Sumiyoshi-kai, aren’t you, baby?” His breath was hot on your ear as he spilled your dirty secret, “That's okay, I understand you’re curious why we’re on your territory.”
“H-How-”
“Don’t speak unless I give you permission,” The stranger growled, his thumb pressing harder against your clit as he accentuated his words with the notion, “We have clients in Tokyo… Ones that will give us a lot more money and power in these parts of Japan, sweetie.”
You swallowed, he was giving you too much information for you to have any chance of leaving this room again.
“Well, this is just a test run, baby,” He pulled away from your ear, his finger quickening on your clit and causing you to clench around nothing as you felt the build up of an orgasm blossom, “You’ll understand once you get to your climax.” His eyes were dark, relishing in the way your chest heaved and fear painted your features as you could barely understand what was going on.
“How bad do you want it,” His voice was a growl once more, eyes piercing yours as watched your pussy drip, “How bad do you want me to fill you up?”
Your thoughts were repressed of his previous words as his scent washed over you, the desperate need to feel and touch him overriding your senses once more, “S-So bad,” Your voice was a quiver, hips still grinding against his fingers, “I need you so bad.”
That was all the stranger needed, his lips curling back into a smirk as he released the grip on your wrists and brought his hands to his pants, being quick to release his hardened member from his slacks. You watched him pull himself out, his palm working up and down his shaft as you sat up; your legs spread and ready to take him on the edge of the table.
He leant in, his tongue hot and messy on your lips as he kissed you hard, the embrace sloppy and fast paced as he entered you. A moan was all you could suffice into the kiss as you leant back onto the table, one of his hands splayed across your back while the other held onto your hip for leverage. His length was filling you perfectly, your brain blank with any other thoughts rather than this stranger’s dick and how euphoric you felt in that moment.
His hips snapped against your own, starting a rough pace against the metal table, his own groans and moans mixing with yours as your fingers tangled in the blue strands of his hair. You were already close, the coil in your stomach intensifying as you felt his dick stroke against the spot that had you seeing stars.
If anything, the smell, the intoxicating and coaxing scent, was heightening the pleasure you felt, the coil twining tighter and tighter every time you breathed in this stranger. His lips were sloppy, leaving a wet trail against your skin as he kissed you messily.
Your nails scraped against his scalp, your moans becoming louder and more desperate as you felt your high near, the edge to your orgasm building too rapidly for you to comprehend. The stranger knew you were close, his own cock twitching in you to signify his oncoming release.
Yet, as you came, you could never have prepared your body for the pleasure you felt. One final stroke of his cock had you tumbling over, a loud moan cascading off your lips as your walls constricted tightly around him, a squirt of your essence escaping you as the white hot pleasure of your orgasm took you by storm. The pleasure, the feeling, it was too intense, the orgasm too good as your world went black, vision swimming and your limbs going numb as you felt yourself collapse in the strangers arms.
And that was all you could remember before everything went black.

This is part of the VIXX PARALLEL Collaboration Project hosted by @uwugalore I chose the song Dynamite to base this story off of.  Genre: Romance, Angst, Friends to Lovers, supernatural, non idol AU. Warnings: Alcohol use. Summary: After drinking a strange substance from a mysterious bartender, Jaehwan gets the chance to go back in time to erase his regrets and tell her how he really feels.  Word Count:~4K
~~
She was bored. Playing cupid in a bar where people had no intention of being serious about love was excruciating. All they ever wanted to do was get drunk and forget. They used alcohol to forget their heart break or fulfill sexual needs with a casual hook up. It was all very exhausting to her. However, that was the point of the test, she had to make love happen in one of the most impossible places. Once she did that she would become a full blown cupid and would be able to aid humans finding love and hopefully finding their soul mates. She pulled out three titanium flasks she kept under the counter, each one had a symbol imbedded in it.  One with a clock, one with a heart, and one with an arrow. She only had three chances to prove herself. Her eyes darted to the dark figure that entered the bar. He was tall, had black wavy hair with pouty lips, and a light pink aura. Perfect, she thought, he was in love and ready to be loved back. So now all she needed to figure out - which elixir to give him so could get his relationship off the ground.
~
Sitting in the dimly lit bar and gazing down at his empty whiskey glass, Jaehwan furrowed his brow and sighed. “Bartender I need more,” he sheepishly smiled hoping she would not notice his slurred speech. The bartender glanced in his direction with a knowing smile.
“I think you have had enough.”
Jaehwan pouted and held up a single finger “One more”  he begged. Unable to resist his pleading, she let out a heavy sigh and set down another shot.
“Here you go.” She stared at him for a moment and examined the empty room; it was a slow night, an easy night to just talk with someone. “So, what brought you here-alone-drinking, and obviously in deep contemplation?”
Jaehwan quickly downed the amber liquid, “Life isn’t fair, she was supposed to be with me!” He was squeezing his eyes shut as if he was replaying a memory that he did not want to see.“I mean, I am better for her.” He began to rub his temples. “Maybe I am jealous.”
Removing the shot glasses from in front of Jaehwan, the bartender replied “Probably- especially if this is someone you have feelings for. I take it she dates someone else?”
Jaehwan let out a long groan “Don’t remind me.”
“Does she know how you feel?”
Slowly shaking his head and groaning,“No, I was going to tell her,  but I just didn’t”, he looked up at her, and muttered,”no matter how hard I try to spin the clock backwards it just doesn’t work.” He looked at her with sadness in his eyes.
“Oh I believe you.  What if I told you I could?”
“You could what?”
“Turn back time.”
He stared at her not comprehending, as the gears in his head began turning slowly. He was trying to fight the haze effect of the alcohol. “You can’t be serious!”
“Oh but I am!”
Jaehwan narrowed his eyes, “Okay so you know what - I believe you. What are you going to do for me? Cast a spell like some kind of witch?”
The bartender set down a flask that had the clock etched into the metal.”Something like that,” she smiled as Jaehwan stared at the flask, intrigued.
“You get one night, to make your dream a reality, but after that night everything will go back to normal. In a sense it will kind of be like a dream,” She tapped her chin. “What I would like for you to do is just to tell her how you feel and see what happens.” She tapped the top of the flask. “All you have to do is drink this, and you will get a small do over that will in a sense help you out in present day.”
“One Night.”
“Yes that is right one night.”
“You’re going to turn back the clock?”
“Yup.”
Jaehwan snorted, even in his drunken haze, he knew that this had to be a joke. The alcohol must be playing tricks on his thought process. He just didn’t care at this point at night. He pointed to the flask. “I just need to drink this? For reals? Not for fakes?”
She nodded and motioned to the flask.
“Okay.” He picked it up and unscrewed the cap and drank the liquid that was inside. It tasted a lot like flat orange soda. “The task is completed but I am still here.”
She smiled at him “It does not work right away. You must go home and sleep. When you wake up you will be in a time that will be a week… a few months... or even a year in the past. This will be the point in your life that you could change the outcome of your relationship, but only for that night.” She smiled, “If you have any questions in this journey come to this bar and ask for the witch.”
“Whatever, how about another shot?”
The bartender smiled and complied.
~
Sighing the bartender picked up the empty flask as Jaehwan left the bar in an uber. She hoped that she had made the right decision by giving him the clock flask, after all no one had ever used that elixir before.
~
As soon as Jaehwan made it home he laid down on the bed but quickly sat up when his head began to buzz. Checking his phone he discovered there were six missed messages from you:
‘Yooooooooooo. Wanna go to a movie?
Remember you will always be my best friend no boyfriend can change that
Jaehwan? You okay? Are you mad at me?
That’s it you don’t reply I am feeding you RAISINS and TOFU
…. Okay, I take it back. I would never do that.
Just message me back okay?
He smiled amused at your text messages. He didn’t really want to reply rather he wanted to see you. It was a little past two in the morning, he knew that he shouldn’t call you, but the alcohol was hiding his better judgement. He picked up the phone and dialed your number.
“Jaehwan?” your voice was groggy as you answered yet it was still enough to quicken his heartbeat.
“Y/N.” he stated.
“Are you okay, why are you calling me at this hour?”
He hesitated and thought, because I knew you would answer, because I want to see you because I know you will come. “Can you come over?”
“Yeah sure I’ll be there in a bit.” you hung up. That’s one of the things he loved about you. Your undying loyalty to your friends. It didn’t matter if it was two o’clock in the morning. If he asked you to come over you did because your friendship was that strong. He would do the same for you, and you knew that’s why you would never hesitate to come over when he asked.  Jaehwan rested his head back against the wall and waited.
~
Jaehwan had given you a spare key to his apartment, so you walked in like you owned the place. He rarely asks you to come over like this, so you were a bit concerned. You walked into his room to find him sitting on his bed head resting on the wall. “A little too much to drink?” you questioned.
“Yes, the bartender was nice, I kept saying one more, she would say, ‘I think that you have had enough’ and then I would give her my best sad puppy face-” he reenacted a classic Jaehwan begging face for you. His speech was slurred but you couldn’t tell if it was from him being drunk or tired. Maybe it was both.
“No one can resist that.” you said. It was true anyone melted when Jaehwan did that, even you.
He smiled at you and winked. “You got that right, it is one of my many charms.”
“Jaehwan are you okay, though?” He seemed a bit off, ever since you told him you were in a relationship he seemed a bit dejected.
“I’m GRAND.”
You climbed into bed with him and sat next to him. “What else happened at the bar?”
“Nothing happened, the bartender was fun.”
“How so?” you raised your eyebrows at him- a fun bar on a Wednesday seemed out of the ordinary.
“It is a secret,” He drew out the word long and playfully.
“No secrets between us,” you couldn’t help but laugh.
He pouted, “Awe come on just this once.”
“Nope!” there was no way you were going to let him get away with this.
“Fine, she gave me,” he paused looking at you and smiled, “A magic drink that goes back in time to one night so I can do whatever I want.”
You raised your eyebrows as he rested his head on your shoulder. “Y/N,” his voice was soft and sad. “Do you think that it will work?”
“Will what work?”
“Going back in time.”
Laughing you replied, “I don’t know, maybe, why would you want to go back in time?”
He narrowed his eyes at you “I have my reasons. Maybe I need to claim a victory from you for a change. Maybe I feel cheated.”
“I have never cheated in any game we play!” You were slightly offended. You had been nothing but honest every time you won, you would never cheat in a game.
He shifted so he could cup your face with his palms. Staring deep into his eyes you felt your heart skip a beat. His brows were furrowed, and his eyes looked almost sad, “You know what I lost,” You didn’t know what he was talking about. “Jaehwan, I am not sure that I follow.” Shaking his head, he dropped his hands and shrugged. “Guess you will never know then.” He winked playfully at you. You grabbed his pillow and smacked him with it.
“Are you going to stay here tonight?”
“No, I am going to go home, okay?”
“Alright.”
~
Jaehwan thought he would wake up with the nastiest hang over he had ever encountered but he was free from headaches and nausea. He looked at his phone for the time, it was five in the evening. He rubbed his temples, no that couldn’t be right he thought, that means that he slept for over 12 hours. He was trying to recall how much he had to drink and the conversations he had. He laughed suddenly. ‘Drink this, and you will get a small do over’ Those words rang in his head. He could not believe that he would believe something like that even in his drunken state. Curious though he looked at the calendar. He blinked and scrubbed his eyes. This couldn’t be right, yesterday was March 31st  and today was October 31st? That’s a five month difference. He couldn't believe it; his heart was pounding as he exited his room and turned on the TV. He went to the weather channel, and the dates matched his calendar. This couldn't be happening. Maybe it was a dream. He pinched himself surprisingly it hurt which meant it wasn’t a dream. His phone startling him, rang. It was “Y/N” he stared down at it. “H-hello” he stammered.
“Yo Jaehwan are we still going tonight?????”
He had to think back to the day and what you and he had done on Halloween five months ago; for some reason he was drawing a blank.
“Ah-yes! I mean what are we doing?”
“We are going out to bar hop silly then probably going home and watching a movie, it is not like you to forget, are you okay?” Your voice was filled with worry.
Jaehwan closed his eyes. “No I am just perfect. I will pick you up at 8.”
“Sounds good!” He could hear the smile in your voice. He stood there flabbergasted but then he could not help but to jump up and down. Another chance. He was determined this time to tell you just how he felt and see what happened.
Jaehwan rummaged through his closet to find something to wear. This is when his memory hit him like a truck. This was the night that he lost you. He had gone to go get you some drinks and when he came back you were unapologetically flirting with some guy. You had told him that you felt a spark with him and wanted to see where it went, so he left you there while he sulked at the bar and wait for you to tell him you were ready to go. Once you were ready for him to drive you home you gushed about the guy, told him how you had kissed and about your plans to go on a date with him. He remember he encouraged you like any best friend would.
He clutched onto his costume that you had bought for him. This felt wrong, remembering how happy it made you, he really didn’t want to ruin that, but he also didn’t think that he could live through his own pain again. Shaking his head he recalled the bartenders words “but only for that night.” If he was not drunk, he would have inquired more just to make sure that his changes would not be permanent. It was a good thing that the Halloween bar hopping you two were attending started at the very same bar this bartender worked at.
~
You were waiting impatiently for Jaehwan pacing back and forth by your front door. You took a quick glance at yourself in the mirror and adjusted your cat ear headband. Jaehwan was going to go as Dracula, and you were a cat. You wrinkled your nose in the mirror; you looked good and you were going to flaunt everything you had. You heard the horn beep and you ran outside to meet Jaehwan in your driveway. You stopped mid way, staring at him, because he looked incredible. Your heart was pounding in your chest. “Get yourself together,” you pleaded. “You are using tonight to get over him this is a one sided love, he will only be your best friend.” That was because you could not face the fact that you might lose him. You would rather keep him as a friend than risk losing him if you dated and broke up.Taking a deep breath you climbed into the car and gave him your biggest smile. “You look very good, best Dracula costume have ever seen,” he smiled and it looked like he blushed as he put his hand on your knee, “you are a very cute kitty, Meow,” you blushed.
Halloween has always been a tradition in a small town next to yours. It has old buildings and a long street that housed a lot of bars. They would decorate the street, and adults would bar hop and have fun while the kids trick-or-treated. Jaehwan kept a protective hand on your waist as you made your way to your favorite bar. Once inside he leaned down to your ear. “I will be right back, I have something to take care of,” he nodded to one of your mutual friends and you smiled. “Get me my favorite drink, and hurry back.” You said as you made your way over to Sarah.
~
Jaehwan made his way to the bar and was shocked when he saw a man serving out drinks. He stood there trying to get his attention. He didn’t want to waste much time here because if he got the answer that he needed he had to make sure that you didn’t meet Mr. Perfect. Finally, the bartender turned his attention to him.
“What can I get you?”
“An amaretto sour and a whisky sour, oh and can I talk to the...” he paused because the next words out of his mouth were going to be embarrassing “...the witch” the bartender looked annoyed and motioned around the room. “Sure take your pick there are at least a dozen,” Jaehwan’s eyes widened he didn't expect to run into this problem. The bartender retreated to his ingredients and began concocting the drinks. Jaehwan’s mind was racing he needed an answer before he made his next move. The bartender set the drinks down in front of him, “Tab or are you going to pay cash?” Jaehwan handed him his credit card. “Open a tab we will be here awhile.” The bartender nodded, “Wait,-” Jaehwan stammered. “There is a girl bartender she gives people weird drinks in flasks.” he sheepishly smiled. “Can I talk to her?” The bartender gave him a hard look and then he nodded while pulling out his phone and sending a text. “She will be here soon, so take a seat.”
This made him anxious, he had been here longer than he wanted to. He glanced around the bar looking for you, but it had gotten crowded with people in costumes and he could not pinpoint where you were. Five minutes went by, and he felt a hand on his shoulder. Hopeful, he turned to see the bartender that was so important tonight.
“Hey,” she said, “What’s wrong?” she gave a mischievous grin “The clock is ticking and it seems history is repeating itself.” She pointed to the back of the bar. He followed her finger and his eyes landed on you, talking to an extremely handsome man and to his horror you were flirting. He looked back at the bartender. “I just have one question.”
She tilted her head, “Go on I am listening.”
“Her happiness is my everything, and if this is going to ruin the future or change her in anyway, I don’t want any part of it.”
She looked at him and bit her lip. “It might make you miserable, but she won’t remember.”
“So after tonight everything will be fine in her world.”
The bartender nodded.
With that he grabbed his drinks and took off toward you.
~
“Sorry it took so long, the bar was really busy.” Jaehwan was basically pressed against your back as he reached around to hand you your amaretto sour. “Oh thank you,” you mumbled as you elbowed Jaehwan in the stomach and made a small motion to the man you had previously been flirting with. Jaehwan blatantly ignored you which actually annoyed you. You looked at the man “Sorry this is my best friend, Jaehwan, Jaehwan this is Zion,” You smiled apologetically at Zion, “Thanks for the drink. You can now go mingle with other people.” Normally you would love to escape with Jaehwan but today was different, you were not going to ignore other guys because you were giving up on Jaehwan because his friendship is more important than your feelings. Jaehwan shrugged at you, “Na, I came here with you.” Zion was getting a little uncomfortable and you said, “Give us just a moment,” you grabbed Jaehwan’s wrist and dragged him a safe distance away. “What is your problem?” You demanded giving him your scariest glare. Jaehwan looked confused and a little hurt.
“Nothing? There is just no one that interests me here and I would rather spend time with you.” Your heart fluttered a bit, but you squashed your emotions for him. “Jaehwan,” you sighed. “I am single and ready to mingle, and I don’t need you hanging around cock blocking me.” Jaehwan looked as if he had been slapped as you continued,  “I need you to be my best friend and take a step back and to stop hovering.” You started to walk away and you sensed he had begun to follow you so you spun around. “Stop acting like a jealous puppy and don’t follow me. I need space.”  You spat as you walked back toward Zion.
~
Jaehwan stood there  stunned, you rarely lose your temper like that and he couldn’t believe it. This was supposed to be his do over, to have fun with you but instead you were mad. He watched you retreat to Zion and fawn all over him. He turned on his heel and sat down at the bar. He knew better than to bother you when you needed space, that and he didn't want to cause a scene. A whiskey sour was placed in front of him. He looked up and met the eyes of the bartender that put him in this mess.
“Not going as well as you expected?”
He glared at her, “I hate when she is mad at me.” He took a big drink of his whiskey sour. “This is your fault.”
She slammed her hand down on the table. “Excuse me, don’t pin this on me. I tried to help you out; it is not my fault you can’t get the girl.”
Jaehwan slammed the rest of the whisky sour back but then looked dejected. He couldn’t help but to admit she was right. He looked over at you.  Naturally, you were smiling and Zion and he had his face close to your ear and you were blushing. He looked back at the bartender, “I guess this is how it is going to be. I don’t want to upset her anymore.”
The bartender crossed her arms over her chest but signed “You’re a good friend. Want another on me?“ He smiled at her. “Just water, I am going to have to drive us home.”
He sat there for awhile occasionally checking on you to make sure that you were having a good time and didn’t need him to step in to help. At this point he was just waiting for you to come and tell him you were ready to go. You guys had a pact. You come together, you leave together. He pulled his phone from his pocket and sent you a text. “Sorry about earlier just let me know when you are ready to go.”
~
You felt your phone vibrate in your pocket you pulled it out and saw a text from Jaehwan. It was a little past midnight and you had no idea you were talking to Zion for so long. It was different, a good different you liked it. You glanced over at Jaehwan and a wave a guilt fell over you. You ditched him and you felt bad but you just wanted to forget him at that time. Turning your attention back to Zion you smiled. “That’s my best friend, I kind of ditched him tonight, so I better get going.” Zion smiled at you and handed you his phone.  “Can I get your number? So we can set up a date?”
“Yes of course!” you chirped and put your number in his phone “I'll see you later,” you lightly kissed his cheek and made your way to Jaehwan. You placed your hand on his shoulder, “I am ready to leave,” he nodded and lead you out to the car. The walk was silent. More silent then you would have liked.
“Y/N.”
You looked at him. “What’s on your mind?” You could tell there was something bothering him.
“I am sorry about the way I acted, but I need you to hear me out. Just listen don’t say anything until I am done. Okay?” You nodded.
“Here is the thing, I was jealous, and not the way you think. Yes, I came here with you and wanted to spend time with you but...” He trailed off and stared at the ground. He looked like he was thinking hard about what to say. “Y/N, I don’t love you as my best friend. I am in love with you and that is a big difference.” He reached out and put his hand on your cheek. You stared at him unable to comprehend what was going on. Your heart was pounding and you felt sick. How long had he been in love with you. You wanted no more than just this because you too were in love with him but you had squashed your feelings in fear. You loved everything about him, his smile, his pouting, puppy dog eyes, undying loyalty, everything, but he came out of nowhere with this. You and this confession had just locked up your emotions for him and was all over another man. His hand that was on your cheek had made its way to your hip. You looked up at him and met his gaze. He wanted to kiss you, but he was afraid. He didn’t want to invade your space and do something without consent. So you did the only logical thing and threw your arms around his neck and kissed him. His lips were soft at first but became urgent has he deepened his kiss with you. You were kissing him with all the passion you had pent up. You didn’t want to, but you had to pull away because you were running out of oxygen. “Jaehwan,” you said breathless, “Please, tell me you are not drunk and this is actually happening,” you could feel tears stinging your eyes. He laughed and rested his forehead against yours “No, and I was going to say the same thing.” You gave him a little push, “Well let’s head back,” you paused trying to gather the courage to ask if you were a couple.“B-boyfriend? Together?” Jaehwan laughed at your incoherent sentence.
“Yes, Y/N, I am your boyfriend.”
~
Jaehwan woke up the next morning expecting to see you in his bed sleeping soundly. You two had talked all night about your feelings and why it took so long to tell eachother how you felt. Eventually you two had fallen asleep his arms tightly around you like he was afraid that you would disappear.
However, you were not there. He rolled to his back and groaned. No, No, NO. He thought. This wasn’t fair. His heart felt like it was breaking. He really only did get one night. Tears stung his eyes. Reality was back and it was bitter. Not even the world's most evil villain would play this kind of sick joke on him and he did it to himself. All he knew was that you did love him, but now he had an obstacle, and his name was Zion. A five month long relationship that you were totally happy in. He knew he could not ruin that. He swiped at his tears and thought, “Now what?”
~
She sat there holding the flask with a clock etched into its surface. She knew now why no other cupid used this elixir. It was a waste of time. It sent that guy far enough back to a point he couldn’t undo anything even after knowing the truth. All because he was a real friend and truly loved you.  As she watched your story unfold that night she became invested. She had never seen such a beautiful loving aura combine as you two kissed. She had never seen a red string of fate manifest as you to talked about your feelings. She was going to get you two together because that type of love was something she had never witnessed in her life. She reached down and pulled out a flask with a heart etched on it. Time to make a mess out of love.

Know a Piece of Peace
Pairing: N (Cha HakYeon) [VIXX] x Reader (male)
Word Count: 2.6 k
Genre: Fluff, fantasy, romance, mythology
Summary: He comes to you to steal, but instead he is gifted something much greater.
a/n: really the gender of the reader isn’t important except for two lines in the story, so feel free to consider this gender neutral! I didn’t originally intend on doing this but the opportunity was there and i felt inspired by the other xreaders within the collab.
Song: Shangri-La
VIXX PARALLEL Collaboration Masterlist
When he comes to the garden, it isn't a surprise. You see his ascension, you see the thread of a story slowly unfurl itself from its coil. You saw his family point him to the heavens. You heard the commands he received in order to prove himself. A lowly man, with nothing and no one. The only way for such a human to prove himself is to climb the roots towards the heavens and claim the fruit of your tree. It has been attempted before, and you will surely see it again. Even so, you watch in bemusement as this determined man scales the ever daunting roots of the great tree. His tenacity is endearing. You hope to bring forth a blossom from the hard pit he currently is.
You wait when he first arrives. It was a silly human tradition, to steal the fruit of gods in hopes of proving one's worth. You have no claim over what the humans culture is though. That was your sister's choice long ago. As the younger brother, you were kept to safeguard the Higher's blessings made physical. The petals fall about your grey robe. He's climbing up the stone steps.
"Welcome to my orchard, human. What do you seek?" He stops dead in his tracks at the sight of you at the top of the hill. Father's wind blows and your robe smacks your ankles, your hair flutters. The human blinks.
"Who. . .are you?" You step down the stairs. This man is barefoot and clearly scraped from his journey. On his back is a bag, assuredly not carrying much. On his face is unease. He seems too mystified to take his hands away when you hold them.
"I am the keeper of this garden. A spirit of the tree and its fruit and its blossoms themselves." He looks down at your hands, obviously perplexed.
"But-but the lady of the leaves-"
"My mother cares for your leaves. She cares for the Higher's leaves. She does not," you smile down at his innocent ignorance and confused face, "care for my trees." He stammers for response as you turn back and led him up the hill by one of the hands you took. They're strong and calloused. His life has been a hard days work. Never had a lover's caress, never a child who looks to him as a star gifted to earth, never a warm embrace of a parent. He is alone, and he is cold. You bring him to the warmth that is standing beneath your ever pink, ever blossoming tree.
"I- I expected a goddess or… or at least no body."
"You expected an easier time stealing my fruit."
The human looked affronted, opening his mouth and going to protest before realizing the truth.
"I don't steal," came his weak reply. You hum and reach up to grab a peach from the branches. Its flesh is soft, barely retaining its shape from the lightest of presses from your fingers. Its skin is pink and gold, divine in every manner of the term. The human goes wide eyed when you hold it before him.
"Then you expect to ask?" He is breathless staring at the fruit. He could take it and run. He could very easily snatch it from your loose grip and sprint back down the stone steps to the roots connecting you to earth, but he doesn't. He does lick his lips and gulp however.
       "I will beg."
       Very . . . intriguing.
You take the hand that never left yours and guide him to the cliff edge, where you sit and watch the humans. You have him sit beside you. The peach rests on your lap.
"First, sit. Take a moment's peace with me."
      "What is your name?"
       "Hakyeon."
You hum. With ease, you pull the peach apart into its halves. Juice drips onto your robe and hands. The air is tantalizing sweet.
"Why do you come to beg for my fruit, Hakyeon?" You turn to him, folding your legs. The human avoids your eyes, looking down to the earth below. He cannot see the other humans as you can.
"Everyone said this was the only way." You take a bite of one of the halves, letting its sweet juice coat your lips. You know the story, yet you chose to listen anyway.
"The only way to get what?" Hakyeon pauses. The gaze that meets your eyes is open and sincere. The words are more honeyed when they are spoken from the human's soul.
       "Love."
"How do you gain love from my fruits?"
"Your fruit can make the finest drink in the world. A drink from it would have anyone fall in love. Nothing is as sweet and as warm and as gentle as love and your fruit. Your peaches are love manifest."
You mull on that. Love manifest. Could your fruits be a home-like as a lovers embrace? As warm as an early morning waking up in sunlight and a partner's arms? You wouldn't know. No human has made it this far. No one has eaten gods' fruit except for you.
"All I want is love. I have been shunned from everyone all my life. I want a place. I want, at the least, a friend."
You take half of the peach and bring it to Hakyeon's lips. He jerks back the first time, feeling himself unworthy of the gift. You insist, pushing again until his lips part and at least his tongue touches the sweet flesh. You can almost see the sparks he feels at the taste. The sweetest fruit to man or god. A flavor so pleasurable it as though death itself took delicious form. He takes a bite. Juice drips down his chin onto his dirty blouse and pants. You watch him chew, feel, in interest.
"How does love taste then, Hakyeon? Is this what you intended to feel?" He grabs your wrist and takes more. His eyes close and roll back in clear bliss.
"You don't need my fruit to sense love Hakyeon. We are all deserving. You are strong and beautiful. Your heart yearns for company, but you will not find it in shortcuts." You take the peach away, Hakyeon looking dazed. Your other hand reaches out, caressing his face. You wipe the juice from his chin, smear it across his lips and cheek. His face is soft, yet imperfect. His mortality give him beautiful imperfection. He has beauty marks, his eyes are dark, his skin is enticing. His voice is melodic as he asked for more. There is no mind in how close either of you are, you holding him close enough to mix breathes and count lashes. "There is love for you, but it is not my fruit."
"There is nothing down there for me. I will find no love there."
"What do you suggest then, Hakyeon?" Your conversation is in whispers at this point. The human leans forward. There is barely even a brush of lips to the touch, but it immobilizes you. A lover's caress. You have never had another being in such proximity. He pulls away just as easily as he had approached. There is a hair's width between you. His eyes don't ask like his voice does.
"Let me stay with you here?"
"This is no place meant for mortal." His hand is in your hair and it's easy to relax into.
"I have been here only moments, and yet I have never felt as loved and safe as I am now. Allow me to stay."
"Hakyeon…" You feel naturally inclined for another kiss. You're both grasping onto one another as Hakyeon slowly falls back. He tastes like peaches, but smells purely of human. Of mother's pine and soil, of father's dry wind, of uncle's hot sun. He is sweat and he is earth and he is mortal. He is excitement.
He is crackling embers on your skin and the laughter in your bellies as petals fall down upon your bodies. His smile is dazzling and is a nail in the coffin for the deal. The peaches and other humans never have this feeling. This pleasant tingle from your lips to the soles of your feet. Hakyeon had never tasted the fruit of the gods', and you had never tasted the emotions of men. He looks beautiful on the dirt, surrounded by the pink petals already since fallen. His skin was warm and welcoming, just as his smile, as his eyes, as his laugh. You take a petal and balance it on his nose, delighted by the simplest fact that it stays and looks ridiculous.
"You are a very special human, Hakyeon."
"You are a very charming spirit."
"Your humans ask of you at times," you mention offhand to the lover you lean against. Hakyeon's chest is not broad or stiff with muscle, but he is warm, and his hands are on you. That is all you can ask. The two of you are under the peach tree, as was often the case. You both leaned against the trunk and watched as the panther of night sky chase away the dog's day. A sky alight in colors from the shift of the time. It will get cold soon, yet you don't even bother to fix the robe of which barely covers your chest at this point. Hakyeon's hands were the cause. They liked to roam your chest, caress the perfect body of a god. He liked to lay on it too. Fall asleep under the stars and blossoms with his nose in your neck. For a human so alone, he is well versed in keeping good company.
       "Do they?"
"Yes. They question if you succeeded. If you died finding me."
"The old me died. I found you and became anew." You smiled up at him.
"At times, you sound like the god of love has visited you in your dreams." Hakyeon laughed and shook his head.
"No. No, my god of love is right here." He pulls you closer, more flush against his side. "You are devotion taken God like form." He pulls you in for a kiss, but the question falls from your lips.
       "Do you miss them?"
"Miss who?" You reach up and run a thumb over his lips, pensive.
"The humans, your people. All you have here is me and the fruit. Don't you miss other mortal company?" He doesn't answer at first. He's looking at you. You know he heard you. He's simply contemplating. You give him the kiss he wanted, albeit more of a peck.
"I miss my brothers and sisters. That is all." He fixes the robe that has fallen off your shoulder. "I am happiest here though. I don't want to be without you." You bite your nails in thought. You'd never gone to humans. You've never left your garden. You are, however, willing to do anything to make this miserable man smile.
"Let us go down then. I will accompany you to your family." Father's breeze picks up and blows petals onto you both. Hakyeon looks shocked.
"No! You've never met humans and they can be terribly cruel and-and… and my family probably doesn't miss me anyway." You pull away from Hakyeon, pouting. By now, the stars have nestled into their places in the sky and it's cold on your bare skin. Not the matter at hand though.
"Hakyeon, if you miss them they surely return the feeling. And I am a god, nothing humans can do will hurt more than my feelings."
       "My love-"
"Let us go Hakyeon. Let us both see your family once more and be merry with them." Hakyeon sighs and pulls you back in. Your face is in his chest as he rests his head on yours.
       "We shall see."
When your feet first reach the ground, you are amazed. The human realm is so large, so beautiful. There are giant rolling hills and beautiful golden fields of grain that stretch on into the horizon. Your breath catches in you throat and Hakyeon looks to you with a smile. Your appearance doesn’t fit in his human world. So clean and prim, such perfect appearance. He watches you carefully step, feeling the grass between your toes. How is this so different from your garden?! It takes a moment for Hakyeon to actually get you to focus on walking to his village with him and not looking at every bug and plant you see. You hug onto his arm and walk with him to the village.
Hakyeon chose today because of the festival. Harvest season. There would be a huge parade, humans in costumes, plentiful sweets and desserts. Easier to hide a god in a costume, Hakyeon claimed.
"No one even knows what I look like. You don't need such precautions." Hakyeon hushed you.
"Consider it part of the festivity, then. You'll just be celebrating as a human does." The village was busy, filled with music and people. You crushed Hakyeon's hand watching in excitement. He lead you away from the crowd though, to the vendors. A mask was lovingly put on your face for you, Hakyeon tying the string and then paying. The looking class showed your disguise to be a fox. It was darling. Black with yellow and red swirls and designs. It covered your whole face, only showing your eyes. You held onto Hakyeon's hand and he guided you through the crowd.
"May we dance?" He came to a halt, looking back to you.
       "What?"
"I'd like to join! It seems delightful. Please, darling." Hakyeon looked between you and the path you both had been travelling before heaving a sigh.
"One dance," he relented. He squeaked and stumbled as you pulled him along to the edges of the square. He took your hand in his once he regained balance.
"I step in with my left, you step in with your right." His foot came between your legs and you did as instructed. It was a kind of rocking motion, both stepping in to one another and then stepping out. The humans were full of conversation and laughter, full of merriment. All of them, except Hakyeon. He seemed at an unease, always looking around the two of you at the crowd.
"What distresses you, Hakyeon?" You spoke softly on a step in.
       "Nothing."
"Do you not enjoy dancing?" He sighed. He was looking resolutely at his feet.
"I do, deeply. I do not enjoy being seen though. Especially here." You looked about and saw not eyes on either of you. Everyone was about their own little world.
       "No one is watching."
"And if they are? What if they see a mistake? Or question you as my partner? I am already a stranger to this village." His tone was tragic and expression forlorn. You stopped dancing, holding his face. He was such an anxious creature and he wore his fears on his wrist. You wanted to allay them.
"If you love to dance, do it. If you love me, savor me. Your mortal life is much too short to live fearlessly. Act as though you do when you are high off the sweetness of the peaches. Love, and love recklessly without fear of contrition." He blinked at you, softening as he always did. Your reassurances were the honey to soothe his aching heart.
       "You are always so loving."
"As I said before, you are deserving of it." He stepped into you. The lanterns cast a familiar kind of glow on him. The kind during sunsets, where reds and blues and purples all take a shine to him and make him appear ethereal. His hands reach up and tilt your mask up, not all the way, just enough for your mouth to be exposed. It's a kiss, gentle but prolonged. All the sensations melt into one pleasant buzz and you are left with a permanently good impression of the humans. They are all fascinating and lovable, just one in particular captured your heart though.

Into the Twisted Depths [A VIXX Parallel Colloboration]
Pairing: Hongbin (Lee Hongbin) [VIXX] x Female OC
VoodooDoll!AU
Word Count: 2.4k
Genre: fantasy, mythology, horror, dirty-ish/implied/maybe smut
Warnings: Blood, voodoo ritual mentions, gore mentions, pain/sensation ‘play’ mentions
Summary: At a time where the number of Voodoo Dolls is representative of one's power. Hongbin is the 6th Voodoo Doll conjured by a young priestess. He was sent by a powerful deity to keep watch over her. That’s fine until he decides he wants her power.. and her whole existence for himself.
Note: loa/lwa - the name for the patron spirits/deities of voodoo
Baron Samedi- The loa of the dead [think similar to Hades]
Ayan LaRoche - Voodoo Priestess OC
Ayan was born and raised in the bayou of Louisiana. The dialogue will reflect some 'twang' and spatterings of Creole dialect.
Even though this is for the VIXX Parallel Collaboration, I may continue this as a series.
Tumblr media
What rotten luck was this?!
Hongbin grunted as life, or something like it, suffused into his body. He could feel the ligaments moving as his fingers wiggled in the air. The disdain on his face at the sight of himself was hard to hide. He wobbled like a puppet on a string dangling from a great height.
The substance that ran through his veins slowed as he heard the echo of footsteps. His lip stayed lifted in a half snarl. The guttural sound vibrated against his vocal cords. The push of tension caused his biceps to flex, almost violently, against his shirt.
That was until he saw who was walking toward him.
The shadow of a tophat, the scent of a cigar, and the pasty white painted skull over a brown-skinned face.
He wanted to disappear; to become so small and insignificant that he could forget the sight in front of him.
Every every poppet knew for whom and what purpose they had been created. It was rare that one of the loa bothered. Let alone the Lord of the Dead himself.
"Ah, I see you awake now." The loa smirked at Hongbin's sudden shrink in attitude and demeanor. "Dat's good, dat's good. Nah, I know you might be havin' a question or two 'bout why you here." There was a thick cloud of smoke that lifted from the deity's nostrils.
The smile on Baron Samedi's face gave Hongbin a cold chill. "I need you do sumthin' fah me." The taller man tugged at the bindings holding the voodoo doll aloft.
"I need you to keep an eye on someone fa' me. You see, dis girl? She special. I like her. She gotta lot of learnin' for she can be a power to be reckoned with." Baron Samedi stopped to level a dark umber gaze on Hongbin.
"You need'ta keep the unsavory 'way from her, ya'hear?" The sudden baritone of the deity's voice caused Hongbin's knees to buckle. The overwhelming power filled the room, leaving him only able to nod with wide eyes.
"Good, good. No one gets near her, Hongbin. Do we understand each otha'?" Hongbin nodded vigorously as he swallowed the lump in his throat. The loa smirked while picking an object from a nearby table. He turned toward the dangling puppet with a particular glee dancing in his eyes.
He knew what was coming before Baron Samedi reached him. He could see the sharply jagged edge on the ice pick. His lips flattened into a straight line as he steeled himself for the onslaught.
The pain never bothered him at first. The first initial puncture, scratch, or gouge was nothing at this point. It was the speed of delivery that always killed him. Some of the priests or priestesses were quick with their work. It prevented the pain from building in the doll.
It always made it easier to cause the maximum amount of pain to their intended victim.
But some caused pain to the doll and the victim. They said it was probably as close to watching the deed from far away. It wasn't that way with the loa, unfortunately.
They gave pain, relished in the suffering, and needed the experimentation to learn about humanity.
Samedi was twisted, perverted, and sadistic. This was nothing more than entertainment for him. This was also an early lesson. That he wanted what he wanted.
.....and that he wouldn't accept failure.
Others.
There were never others.
At least not in his time in service, had he seen others. Hongbin heard about those that had been able to conjure more than one doll. There was a time, long ago, when someone had three. That woman was descended from a strong line - the first line. She was a descendant of the one who started everything that would be Voodoo. That woman had children but then moved to Haiti.
Removing herself and her kin from Louisiana due to the state that the art had devolved. It was considered hoodoo, entertainment, and a child's play. That woman returned sometime later with her children in tow.
She had risen in her craft to take on the title of Mambo. The highest and most important places a person can reach. Her children were exceptional, as well. A son, musically gifted, and in tune with nature. A daughter with a wicked streak and a penchant for darker dealings.
He only knew of the woman by one name - The Black Mamba. To the public, though, she was Mambo LaRoche. A formidable woman of high power who understood the balance between the light and dark elements of the craft.
The community was devastated when Hurricane Katrina stole her away from them.
It stole all but one.
Tumblr media
“Wake up.” A lilting purr slithered across the shell of his ear. Hongbin stirred with the sensation of cold metal against his back. The air was thick with incense, blood, and magic. An echo of laughter, drums, and the rush of power caused his heart to beat fast.
“Come on now. You can do it.” There was the scent of lilies in the air, causing his head to sway in its direction. A delicate finger trailed down the center of his bare chest. He twitched as the finger trailed a muscle at the dip in his groin.
His lips parted on a soft moan. Samedi beat him until he lost consciousness, only for him to wake up to this? He could feel lips soft along his jaw. She spoke to him in a language once thought long dead. It was so beautiful, it seemed to dance across his skin.
The scent of blood filled his nostrils, his mouth watered, his body reacted violently. His eyes snapped open as a shadow hovered over him. "Blue." He murmured absently. Her eyes were so blue. Crystalline. Icy. The adjective to classify them was out of his reach. He just realized as the moon spilled light upon them both - he'd never seen a blue like it.
"Well, well. Look who decided to finally wake up." Her lips curved into a smile as she tucked her fingers under her chin. "Th'names Ayan. Ayan LaRoche, enchanté ."
The blue-eyed Creole stood, as regal as queen, with her hands clasped in front of her. The heavy pressure seemed to evaporate at that moment. Hongbin could feel beads of sweat sliding down the sides of his face.
A thick swallow as she crouched above him. The whisper of thin linen against his skin caused him to moan. He could see the moonlit silhouette of her body through the gauzy material. The uptick of her breast and the prominent push of her nipples. She brought his hands to the wide expanse of her hips.
Arousal.
Instant. Obvious. Painful.
He could feel the power radiating off her skin. The surge of it pulsed under his fingertips. The warm slide of her fingers against the throb of his erection caused him to moan. His fingers dug deep into her flesh as she settled over him. Every vein in his body seemed prominent as she swiveled her hips.
Bloodied hands pressed against his chest as she moved, chanting. The moonlight seemed to spotlight the sealing ritual. Her feet dug into the ground as her voice crescendoed. Hongbin remembered, suddenly, a warning. He remembered the threat beaten into his flesh.
But as her body tugged and molded around him? He forgot about it. He forgot all of it. She connected to a wealth of power long left untouched within him. He could feel her peel back the layers of his spiritual reserves. Their bodies and spirits thumped against each other, seemingly to no end.
Before he knew it? He had rolled them, anchoring her upper half to the ground. She let out a shrill sound that made his stomach knot. He didn’t care about the gore covering her fingers. He kept chasing the link, the thing that sealed Doll to Practitioner.  “R-right...there.” She gasped. The warm honey of her voice vibrated in the air as he held her hips upward. Her eyes rolled back into her skull as she dissolved into orgasm. He tilted his head as he met the pure white, then suddenly golden tone in her eyes.
His brow furrowed as her body seemed to pull all of him inside of her. He lurched as his own orgasm gave chase.
Hongbin felt it at that moment - there was no bottom. She had reached all the way inside of him, farther than anyone before. Yet, he couldn’t find her. Like there was no end to her.
"Welcome to the family, sug'." Her voice was like warm honey. Rich, silky, and sweet - strangely no different from her singing to her speaking. Ayan's gaze lifted toward the face of her newest doll.
Six.
There were never others.
The most that there had ever been was three.
He was now one of six.
Samedi, what have you gotten me into? Who is this woman?
Everything seemed to get warmer, fuzzy - the air was so sweet? He wavered as he looked down at the woman smiling up at him. But it was a different voice that he heard.
"You need to wake up, little brother." A soothing, melodic voice chided. The night seemed to fizzle away as the voice continued, beckoned him to wake up.
Wait a minute?
Wake up?
Didn't he do that already?
"Time to wake up, little brother." Hakyeon's voice was so damned soothing.
"What happened? I - I was up already?" The confusion was thick in his voice. His mouth was so dry as if he hadn't spoken more than a few days.
"Shhh." Hakyeon placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. "You'll get sick if you're not careful." Hongbin shrugged him off with a growl.
"What are you talking about? I'm fine! There's no way that I could get -" He was too panicked to notice it at first. He had been so busy trying to find the wounds that plagued him not too long ago. The burning sensation crept along the surface of his skin.
From the feet to his knees, he thought it was just from movement. From his knees to his hips, he felt it was his body finally moving. The sensation crept up his torso, to his neck, and then it was behind his eyes.
Then it filled his head as the sound of a scream filled his ears. Oh, it was his scream. It had been a while since he had made a sound like this. The power overwhelmed him as he clawed at his skull.
The connection. The link. The establishment of the thread that binds the voodoo doll to its owner. It washed over him like a tidal wave. He saw visions, clipped projections of memories from the other five. Hakyeon sighed slowly, waiting for Hongbin to calm himself down.
It took him five minutes to regain his composure - it never took that long. He turned to the side and was violently sick when it was over.
"Good, she's ready for you now." The older doll smiled, pleased even, as he turned to depart. "There are fresh clothes in the bathroom. Make yourself presentable and then take the path to the house. Don't keep her waiting."
He moved from the bed in a rush to the bathroom. They may have been 'dolls' in a sense, but their forms still required the typical maintenance. Bathing was essential and enjoyable - a luxury even.
The hot water over his skin eased the tension from his muscles. He rotated his joints under the hot spray. He would have to ask how long he was asleep. He grits his teeth as he hurriedly washed and dressed.
He had already kept her waiting. "Tsk." Hongbin was dressed in a sweater, slacks, and shoes too shiny to have ever seen a speck of dirt. He admired his reflection in the mirror before leaving their space.
There was a path of carefully laid gravel. The crunch of his shoes on the ground was the only noise in the area. The moon was full, bright, and beautiful in the Louisiana sky. He spotted a set of double French doors open wide toward a parlor decorated in ornate Victorian style.
His steps were quiet as he entered the parlor. His fingers were a whisper over the costly, ornate wooden backs of couches and chairs. He heard the sound of singing? Or was it humming? It was close.
He felt his heart quicken as he entered the open space of the dining room. His brow furrowed as he followed the song through the house. The click of his heels against an old hardwood floor almost tapped in time with the voice. He was panting and didn't understand why.
This home was ridiculously large for no reason! Where was that sound?! By the time he realized he was on the other side of the house. Another set of french doors opened toward the courtyard that dazzled with white roses. He stood in the doorway; his eyes pinned to the back of an ornate wingback chair.
The voice stopped, suddenly, as his footsteps announced his presence.
Laughter. A throaty, warm, laugh that sent prickles across his skin. He saw the delicate shine of polish on her fingers. He was almost afraid to get a full look at her.
"Come closer, suga'." He did as he was instructed. He moved in front of the shadowed space. The clouds began to break as he noticed an odd gleam coming from her face.
"Blue." He murmured absently. Her eyes were so blue. Crystalline. Icy. The adjective to classify them was out of his reach. He just realized as the moon spilled light upon them both - he'd never seen a blue like it.
A long, massive, moment of silence stretched for what seemed an eternity between them. Hongbin still had her hand in his own, the delicate knuckle adorned with crystal-studded rings.
His grip tightened, a reflex, as he couldn't keep himself quiet. "You're the most powerful witch in all of Louisiana."
She tilted her head with an amused smile as his lips brushed against her knuckles. There was a sudden pull in her lower half that caused breath to slither from her mouth.
Hongbin’s gaze rose to hers as the corner of his mouth lifted.
And she would be his, easily.

Summary: Taekwoon had been working on this project for months. He wanted to create a companion that tended to his every need. But how far will the companionship go?
Link to full Masterlist in bio
Today was your birthday. Or at least that was what Taekwoon had said when you had finished charging that morning. You were never really born to begin with. You were Taekwoon’s creation. A robot that could understand human emotion. A robot that was to be a companion to whomever bought it. A robot that could adapt its behavior to its master’s needs.
Of course, Taekwoon had tossed a few of those notions out of the window within the first days. For one he didn’t seem to have a need to be your ‘master’. He had said he was more comfortable being your friend. As so you treated him as such. But sometimes it felt like he needed a partner.
It really started two months after your creation. You noticed that Taekwoon liked to come off as cold or aloof. So you treated him like a business partner, you were his experiment after all. You were nothing more than a means to make him money. The problem with that notion was Taekwoon never made more of you. You were sure he had the schematics of your design somewhere in his computer. So you always wondered why he never made another one of you. You even asked him one day.
“Taekwoon?”
“Yes X49?”
“May I ask why you have never made more of me? I’m sure there is a big market for androids that can feel like you humans do.”
Taekwoon laughed at the question. The sudden laughter confused you. For one you had never heard him laugh before. For another your question wasn’t funny.
“I’ll be honest with you X49. You’re right. There is a big market for androids like you. I guess you can say I’m testing you out before we go into mass production. Besides, there can only be one you.”
You accepted the answer. You had no real reason to doubt him. A test run made sense.
But another two month later you realized you needed to readapt to Taekwoon. He had come home drunk that night. In his drunken state he had confessed how lonely he really felt sometimes. You tried your best to comfort the crying man but nothing consoled him. So you rubbed his back until he finally cried himself to sleep. That night as you charged you adapted yourself to be more of a friend to Taekwoon.
Taekwoon responded well to the adaption. He seemed to smile more. He seemed to laugh more at your jokes. But with the friendliness came the gestures that suggested he wanted more.
In times of great stress he would lay on the couch with his head in your lap. You longed to run your fingers along his scalp, but with the way your joints were built they would only get caught in his hair. So you simply rubbed the tip on your index finger over his eyebrows, since you had read somewhere that it was a soothing gesture.
At other times he would ask you to sing for him when he wasn’t feeling well, which was often due to how poorly he cared for himself.
You tried to adapt yourself to being more motherly, but that seemed to backfire since all that did was make him homesick. Once you made yourself his friend again he seemed to stick to you more. You wanted so badly to adapt yourself to be more of a lover for him, but you would save that for a last resort. Instead you decided being more human like would be the better route to go. Sure you were his friend now, but you could be his best friend if you at least felt and looked more human. So you got to work.
First you made a silicone external suit to make your metallic exterior feel more like a human. You could finally run your fingers through his hair when he needed your attention.
Next you made a fireproof wig to cover the flashing buttons on the back of your scalp. You loved your wig. It made you feel a little bit more human.
The last step was the hardest. Your name. Your name had always been X49. While you didn’t really mind your name you thought getting a more human one would be better. You scoured the internet while you were charging to find the perfect name. Finally, you found the perfect one. Now you had to ask Taekwoon to use it. You asked him about it the next day.
Taekwoon was reading the daily paper while you made breakfast. You had learned that the best time to ask Taekwoon for things was the morning. You set out a breakfast feast for him. When Taekwoon saw all of the food he smiled.
“What are you going to ask me for?”
“I see you know my tactics.”
“I hope I do. I created you after all.”
You laughed before you sat with him.
“I wanted to ask for a favor.”
Taekwoon bit into his food before he motioned for you to continue.
“Can I have a human name?”
Taekwoon looked confused.
“I mean you can, but why?”
“I figure having a human name can help me to my duties better. If my goal is to be a companion to the buyer then shouldn’t they have a normal name to call rather than shouting X49?”
Taekwoon smiled before he placed his hand over yours.
“So what do you want me to call you then?”
You smiled wider before sitting up straighter in your chair.
“My name is Y/N. It’s nice to meet you Taekwoon!”
Taekwoon smiled wider.
“Y/N? That’s a beautiful name for you.”
The rest of the day was the best day you ever had.
After that day, however, you noticed you had to readapt again. Taekwoon was getting deeper and deeper into his work. It was getting harder and harder for you to pull him away from it. Why would he listen to his friend when he was that deep in work? So you decided to finally take the last step.
Today was your birthday. That was what Taekwoon told you, right before he broke your heart. Or at least if you had a real heart it would be breaking. You told him that you had adapted yourself to be a lover to him. He told you he never asked you to do that. He told you he didn’t want that. He told you he couldn’t love an android like he could love a human. He told you this with tears running down his face.
You hurt him. You didn’t understand how but you did. You knew that another readaptation wouldn’t work, so you did the one thing you thought would make him happy. You walked over to your charging station and programmed the machine to reset you.
Today was your birthday.
                                       Today is your birthday.

This bullet is fated
Song: Trigger
Summary:
“Hi, dad.”
“No, he hasn’t suspected anything.”
“He’s… I don’t know… dad, maybe we shouldn’t-”
Genre: Mafia, Romance
Pairing: Ken (Lee Jaehwan) x Ravi (Kim Wonshik)
beta reader: @roundleo
https://archiveofourown.org/works/20776463
One last kick to the chest and a bullet right in the middle of the guy’s forehead did the job. Finally. Wonshik huffed, running his bloody fingers through his messy hair. He had lost his mask somewhere along the way. The target struggled too much, even though he clearly didn’t stand a chance against the assassin. One more pest to wipeout for the king.
Wonshik was just a soldier. He did everything he had to in order to keep his king’s territory safe or expand it. The king, ‘Boss Lee,’ was in charge of Seoul’s mafia. It started with running an underground cocaine and meth lab and grew to being the owner of all the drug businesses in the city. His ambition didn’t stop there. He wanted the guns too, so he took them. It was only a matter of time until he decided that he wanted the prostitution business too.
Wonshik didn’t care. His job wasn’t to ask questions, it was to follow orders like a good soldier. If the king asked him to kill, he would kill. He had been Lee’s hitman for 19 years now, soon to be 20. He was introduced to the king by his teacher 20 years back. He had no family. His mentor, the one who taught him all he knew, was known to be the greatest killer of his time and he promised Lee that Wonshik would be as good as him, if not better.
He sat in his sedan, not caring about the blood covering his whole body. The car was to be burnt anyway. Rule number one: never take your own vehicles to missions. Rule number two: never take flashy cars to the missions. The goal is to always do the job as quickly and as quietly as possible and that meant not being seen. So you need to blend in, not stand out.
He dialed number 3 on his speed dial.
“The gun has fired,” he reported. ‘The gun’ was his code name.
“Understood.”
He had finished another mission successfully. He threw his gun on the passenger seat and drove to the HQ without wasting any more time. A guy at the entrance took the car as he got out. Hongbin. His job was to get rid of the evidence. In this case, the car.
“Always breaks my heart to destroy a perfectly good car… If you’d just do your work less messily-” the guy whined, but he was interrupted with the hitman’s piercing glare.
“I don’t tell you how to do your job.” He stepped closer to the other man until their noses were inches apart. “So don’t tell how to fucking do mine Hongbin,” he growled.
“Jeez! Fine, I was kidding,” the guy chuckled, showing his dimples and his pearl white teeth. He drove off before Wonshik could punch him. He wouldn’t; it wasn’t worth it. The guy was a clown.
He stepped into the white hallway. Walking past the metal doors one after another, he opened the one he knew was the bunkers - not that he ever slept there. He used the room’s shower occasionally. He didn’t like meeting with the king covered in blood, even if it was the enemy’s.
He showered quickly, putting on a simple grey turtleneck and dark blue jeans. He kept some change of clothes in the room in cases of emergency.
He took the sleek elevator to the top floor where the boss’s office was located. The door was ajar and the boss looked up before he got a chance to knock.
“Mr. Kim, I was expecting you an hour ago. Come in,” Lee said calmly after taking his reading glasses off.
“My apologies sir.” He bowed his head down briefly before holding his head high again.
“Any complications during your mission?” he asked, lacing his fingers in front of his face.
“None, sir,” he said confidently.
“Good. I have another mission for you. Meet me at my house at 09 00 tomorrow.”
It was a bit strange for the King to give him a mission right after he finished one, and even stranger to ask him to meet him at his house. It wasn’t that Wonshik had never been there but this mission already seemed to be personal.
“Yes, sir. Anything else?” He was looking forward to being reunited with his bed in his apartment after a long day and a longer night he had had.
“Get some rest. You’re dismissed,” Lee said coldly, putting his glasses back on and going back to whatever he was doing before Wonshik had arrived. Wonshik wasn’t sure if the man ever slept.
..
He parked his sleek motorbike in the garage of his apartment downtown. It wasn’t huge, but nothing less to luxurious. He heard small patting sounds as soon as he unlocked the door and was met by a small ball of fluff.
“Hey buddy.” He crouched down, scratching the dog’s tiny head. A cream French bulldog. Technically, he wasn’t allowed to have a pet. But no one told ‘the gun’ what he could or couldn’t do.
“I missed you too bud,” he cooed. The dog barked in reply. It was the only time he allowed himself to feel… anything. Feelings and emotions make you vulnerable, something he could never afford to be. But he wouldn’t give up his dog for the world. He had found him in a carton with a note saying ‘needs a home’ when the dog was just a puppy. He couldn’t have been more than a week or two old. He assumed the owner couldn’t afford to take care of his dog’s pups. He wanted to walk away but he couldn’t. The dog was looking at him with big shiny eyes that were begging him to pet him and give him love.
“Are you hungry, Dongie-ah?” He walked to the kitchen and filled the dog’s bowl and left the pup to eat in peace after petting his head one last time.
He took another shower for good measure. He hated the smell of the soap in the bunkers. He didn’t bother drying his hair, figuring he’d wear a cap the day after in case his hair was too awful in the morning. He slumped down on his bed face down, smelled the clean white sheets of his bed, and then rolled over. He liked having white sheets even though most people thought they were cold and impersonal. They made him feel clean, like the blood of hundreds of people wasn’t dripping from his fingers.
He fell asleep on top of the blanket naked.
..
The garage doors opened upon him arriving at the king’s mansion. He had decided to take his sleek black Porsche today. He thought the mission better be a good one because he was looking forward to sleeping in after a late-night mission. He parked sideways in front of the front door; he figured he wouldn’t be there for long. The giant wooden door opened, revealing the king behind it, looking suspiciously cheerful.
“Good morning Mr. Kim,” he greeted Wonshik cheerfully.
“Sir.” He bowed.
“Come on in, there’s someone I’d like you to meet.” Wonshik followed the guy through a hallway and then another huge wooden door, but not as large as the entrance. The man opened the door and stepped in with Wonshik close behind.
Wonshik froze.
There was a boy in Lee’s office. A young boy. He couldn’t be more than 22 or 23.
“Why are you standing there? Come in. You must meet my son.” His son?
Wonshik had seen Lee’s son. The night he joined Lee’s team, he had just turned 16. Lee’s house had been attacked and a lot of his men were down so he needed more people. That was why Wonshik was recruited early. He saw the man’s wife carrying a small child who was sobbing in her arms. The boy must’ve been around 3-4 years old. Wonshik had pitied the baby for being in such a family but he also felt jealous, because at least the kid had one.
Now here he was. A young man, tall and handsome, wearing the most expensive clothes one could find these days. The combination of the items was a bit questionable, but who was Wonshik to judge? The boy had soft hair that fell onto his forehead, soft cheeks, and a sharp nose. But the most beautiful feature on his face was probably his eyes or maybe his thick plump lips that looked impossibly pink. Wonshik couldn’t tell if the color was natural or not.
He finally stepped inside the office and closed the door behind himself.  The boy was right in front of his face when he turned back with an extended hand.
“Lee Jaehwan. I’ve heard a lot about you Mr. Kim.” What was Wonshik supposed to answer to that? Thank you? I know I’m a great assassin?
“Uh…”
“Let’s begin, shall we?” the king said, already getting comfortable in his leather chair behind the desk. He gestured to the seats in front of the desk for them to sit.
“Wonshik, you’ve been working with us for almost 20 years now, and you’ve never let me down once.”
“Just doing my job sir,” he said humbly, though it was the truth. This was the only life he knew. He was an orphan that no orphanage wanted. He wasn’t a troublemaker, but he wasn’t one to let others walk all over him, and he could certainly throw a punch.
He lived on the streets from when he was 11 until his teacher found him when he was 13, fighting 4 fully grown men who were trying to take his food. And he won. The man decided to take him in and teach him everything he knew. The man had always told him he was going to be the greatest fighter one day. Wonshik didn’t know what that meant at the time, or even now. It turned out the man was a retired assassin.
“I’ll get to the point, since we’re all busy here. I want you to train my son,” the man said.
“I beg your pardon?” Wonshik had always made it clear that he worked alone. But to teach? He was no teacher. And to teach no one but the king’s son who was probably a spoiled brat? No way.
“Jaehwan is my only son, and I’m old. I’ve heard word that he’s going to be targeted sooner or later. My enemies will take any chance they get.”
“Sir, I understand your concern, but we have professionals to protect you and your family from any harm-”
“I don’t want babysitters,” the young boy - Jaehwan - interrupted. Wonshik turned to look at the boy who was staring at his hands on his lap. “I’m tired of having men follow me around like I’m some dumb celebrity. I want to be able to protect myself. And I can. I have been trained over the years. I can shoot precisely and I can fight with small knives, but father thinks that’s not enough.” He sighed and looked up at Wonshik, looking at him with his big doe eyes. “So please, do this for me.”
Wonshik didn’t know what to say. The boy seemed desperate. And in some ways, he seemed like he was in pain. Wonshik imagined it must not have been so easy to be the son of the biggest gangster in town no matter how rich that makes you.
“Alright. I’ll train you,” he agreed before he could change his mind.
..
“You’re not taking me to a temple, are you?” Jaehwan asked from the passenger seat of Wonshik’s SUV. It was a week after he had agreed to train the boy.
“No, why would I take you to a temple?”
“Weren’t you trained in one? Like in Kung Fu Panda?”
“...I’m not familiar with ‘Kung Fu Panda’ but nevertheless, we aren’t going to a temple,” he said sternly.
“You’re not familiar with Kung Fu Panda- you gotta be kidding me,” Jaehwan gasped, throwing his hands up in disbelief. Wonshik didn’t say anything, just stared at the road ahead completely uninterested about whatever the boy was about to start rambling about. “Man, do you live in a cave? How have you not watched that movie?”
Wonshik sighed. The boy was not going to let it go.
“Siri, show me the poster for the movie Kung Fu Panda,” he said loudly. Three pictures of the movie showed up on the car’s monitor.
“This is an animation movie. For kids.” Wonshik rolled his eyes. Jaehwan was a child and Wonshik was already regretting his decision to train him.
“Not all animations are for kids,” Jaehwan chided and then paused. “Okay, this one is but it’s still a great movie!”
Wonshik gave him side-eyes. “Sure, for kids.”
“Dude, how old even are you? You act like you’re 50.”
Wonshik ran his fingers through his hair. “Old enough.”
“To what? Remember the dinosaurs?” The younger shook his head and turned his head towards the window.
Wonshik parked his car in front of an old wooden house. They weren’t outside of the town yet but pretty close to the edge. It was not a temple, like Jaehwan thought it would be. It was just an old cabin; no houses or shops or anything else was around. It was his teacher’s house where he lived and trained. The backyard was connected to miles and miles of the woods.
“This is nice, in a creepy way,” Jaehwan said looking around the cabin. “Do we even get Wi-Fi here?”
“Yes. Get your stuff to the room on the second floor, I’m gonna get some food.” Wonshik threw the boy a small key chain and got in his car and drove away.
“Hey! Don’t leave me here!” Jaehwan shouted. “Douchebag...”
..
Wonshik came back around 12 hours later.
Jaehwan was out of the door before he even shut the engine. “Where the fuck were you?! You left me here to fucking starve!” he shouted.
“Calm down, Mr. Lee. You’re not gonna die,” Wonshik said mockingly.
“What is wrong with you? It took us less than 5 hours to get here, where the hell were you all this time?!”
“Waiting for you to contact me.” Wonshik crossed his arms and leaned back on the car.
“What? There is no service here unless you forg-”
“I will break your pretty nose if you don’t lower your voice right now,” Wonshik growled. “It was a test. Did you even bother looking around? All you had to do was get the satellite working.”
The younger turned 3 different shades of red up to his pointy ears, his mouth forming a straight
line. He looked like he wanted to say something or maybe scream, but he did neither.
“Get the bags from the backseats. We should eat.”
Jaehwan carried back 3 bags and Wonshik took the rest.
“At least you figured out the power.” The lights were on; it was late evening.
“And the heating system,” the younger mumbled.
“Good boy,” Wonshik chuckled, ruffling the boy’s hair.
“Hey!” Jaehwan snapped, pulling back to try to straighten his hair. Wonshik laughed harder. The kid was just like a puppy. Suddenly he missed his dog. He had to leave him at a dog hotel for the time being. They could be here for weeks or maybe months.
Wonshik made them something simple with chicken and vegetables and ordered the younger to go to bed early since they were starting training early in the morning.
..
“Why couldn’t we start an hour later?” Jaehwan whined, dragging himself down the stairs; he didn’t know where they were leading to. Wonshik had basically poured some green smoothie down his throat as soon as he woke up and dragged him downstairs with him.
“Are you gonna keep me in some dungeon for a day?” the boy shrieked.
“No, calm down! Jeez.” Wonshik rolled his eyes at the younger’s dramatic reaction.
He tapped on the digital lock on the door to reveal a keypad and fingerprint scanner. Wonshik dragged his thumb on the scanner and the door opened to reveal what looked like a huge gym with soundproof walls and ceiling lights, a couple of boxing bags and some work-out equipment, and the floor was completely covered in rubber mats.
“Woah! This is cool.”
“Take off your shoes.” He pulled Jaehwan back before he could step on the mats with his shoes on.
“Oh, sorry.” He toed out of his shoes and followed Wonshik inside. “So… no Wing Chun dummy?”
Wonshik laughed, rubbing his neck. “I actually broke it a few years ago. Never bothered replacing it, it’s not essential.”
“So you still come here?”
“Yeah, I still come here sometimes to clear my mind,” he said, dropping his water bottle and small towel on the ground, and stopped. Jaehwan did the same, assuming the lessons were about to begin.
“I’m ready Master,” he said half-jokingly.
“Please never call me that,” Wonshik growled.
“O..kay?”
“I understand you already had some training,” Wonshik began, standing in position.
“Yeah, I’ve been doing-” Jaehwan didn’t get to finish his sentence because Wonshik kicked him in the face.
“I don’t care. No one cares what kinds of martial arts you know. You just have to use it. Get up.” Wonshik stood back, giving the boy some time to find his footing.
Jaehwan groaned in pain and stood up, although it hurt less than he thought.
“I didn’t actually want to hurt you.” Wonshik had apparently read his mind. “Start.” It was the only warning Jaehwan got before a punch came his way, which he dodged successfully; but before he could celebrate his victory, another fist hit him in the gut, but not hard enough to knock him down.
“Come on, you can do better. Try to not get hit. That’s the first lesson.”
It went on for nearly two hours with only 3 short breaks in between for water. Jaehwan was clearly out of practice. He wasn’t nearly fast enough even with Wonshik going at him with one-third of his usual strength and speed. They were sitting down on the floor drinking water and toweling their sweat off.
“For now, we’ll work on your reflexes. You need to become faster.”
The younger nodded with his cheeks full of water.
..
“Man, I feel like I’ve been run over by a truck. Everything hurts,” Jaehwan groaned, falling on the couch after taking a shower. It was past 8 pm. They had trained all day, running on protein bars and water. “Can we order pizza?” he asked, blinking innocently.
Wonsik gave him a long, meaningful look from the other seat. “Jaehwan, we’re in the middle of nowhere, unless you forgot.”
The younger pouted like the overgrown child he was. Wonshik’s heart may have melted a little at the cuteness. No man in his mid-twenties should've been allowed to look so adorable. But Wonshik let nothing show on his face.
“How about this, I’ll get us pizza the first time you take me down.” He smirked.
“But this could take months!” the younger cried.
“Then you better work harder, little boy.”
“I’m not little!” Jaehwan shrieked. Wonshik couldn’t help but laugh at the childish behavior. He thought he would be annoyed at the younger but he was finding it kind of entertaining to be around him. But maybe it was still too early to decide.
..
“We’ve been doing this the whole month…” Jaehwan whined, rubbing the back of his gloved hand on his forehead, trying to move his hair away from his eye. Wonshik had decided that
kickboxing could help with his reflexes.
“You think you can take me now?” Wonshik smirked, taking the pads off his arms and brushed the strands of hair stuck onto Jaehwan’s forehead away. The moment suddenly felt too intimate. They were standing way too close. Wonshik took a step back and cleared his throat.
“No…? But can’t we do something different today?” Jaehwan took his gloves off with difficulty; it was time for a break anyway.
“Sure, we could practice shooting after lunch.” Maybe it would do both of them good spending some time out of this hell hole.
They ate light and rested for a while. It was late afternoon with the sun still high up in the sky. Wonshik put up some standard targets in the backyard. He had brought two firearms for this practice: his own personal one and a 9mm Glock for Jaehwan.
“Is this custom made?” Jaehwan asked, observing Wonshik’s gun in his hand. It was slightly bigger than the one Jaehwan was supposed to be using, longer pistol and dark purple streaks on the grip.
“It’s a ghost gun, so basically yes it’s custom made.” Wonshik nodded, putting on his safety glasses and earplugs. Jaehwan did the same, handing Wonshik his gun and taking the other one.
Wonshik was about to run him by the basics but Jaehwan was way ahead of him. He checked if the gun was loaded, fixed his legs’ position, pulled the slide, aimed and fired. Wonshik was too stunned to speak. Jaehwan fired 6 bullets and then put the gun down on the small table.
“You could say shooting is a hobby of mine. Go ahead, check the target,” Jaehwan said smugly. Wonshik arched a brow and walked towards the targets.
The 6 bullets were shot so they were almost shaped like a human heart in the middle of the target’s chest. Impressive. For a kid.
He walked back to their spot. “Not bad. How about moving targets? You know, your enemy won’t stand still for you to make a perfect shot.”
Jaehwan rolled his eyes. “I know, I can shoot moving targets too,” he said and left towards the cabin. He came back a minute later with a pack of canned beer. Wonshik had bought them on the first day but they had never gotten the chance to drink them. Until now.
He opened one and chugged it in one go, then threw the can up in the air and made a shot. It came down with a hole in it.
Wonshik smirked. He grabbed one and did the same only to hit it 8 times, keeping it in the air for about 4-5 seconds. It came down looking like Swiss cheese.
“Game on.” Jaehwan grabbed another one. He managed to shoot it 3 times.
..
They kept going until only 2 out of 24 cans were left. Both men were wasted. After their fifth beer the shots stopped hitting the target and it was just them laughing at the cans hitting the ground. The guns were long forgotten on the table; they were laying on the grass, looking at the night sky. They barely noticed the sun going down.
“You know, Wonshik, you’re not as scary as I had heard.”
“Whatcha mean? I’m very scary!” Wonshik said and made an angry face that would make a 5-year-old laugh. And since Jaehwan wasn’t mentally all that different from one, he started laughing and fake screaming, trying to crawl away from Wonshik.
“Help! A dumbass is trying to kill me!”
Wonshik cracked up and pulled the younger back beside him by his waist.
“Jaehwan-ah… you’re not as annoying as I thought you’d be,” he confessed, voice deeper than usual.
“Yah! I’m very annoying thank you very mu- wait no! Who said I’m annoying?” he yelled, sitting up and realizing halfway that he was going at it the wrong way.
Wonshik laughed harder and pulled him back down again. “Shut up, dumbass.”
“That’s you. Find another insult,” Jaehwan said, puckering his lips. Wonshik rubbed his chin, thinking.
“Ongdongie,” he giggled. The big bad scary assassin who has never missed a shot, never failed on a mission, giggled.
“That’s not an insult. I have a great ass.”
“You look like my dog, Ongdongie.” He giggled again, booping the younger’s pointy nose and then ruffling his hair. The man wasn’t the best drinker, you see.
“You have a dog? Named ass?” Jaehwan asked, looking at the older with wide eyes. “Seriously, how old are you?”
“Shh… It’s a secret!” He shushed.
“Your age?”
“My dog. Ongdongie...”
Jaehwan groaned in annoyance. The man was never gonna tell him his age, even when he was drunk off his ass. “Alright old man, time for bed.”
He held the older’s waist, throwing one of his arms around his shoulder for more support.
“I can’t believe you kill people for a living but can’t hold your liquor,” he complained while carrying the bigger man towards the cabin. Thank god Wonshik’s room was downstairs. Jaehwan managed to half drag Wonshik to his bed without any major injuries. He dropped the man down in the mattress, but he was pulled down with him. Wonshik was probably holding his shirt. Said man groaned under him in pain.
“You could’ve literally not dragged me down with you, it’s your own fault.” Jaehwan made a
move to stand up but Wonshik was still holding onto his shirt tightly.
“Could you maybe let me…” He looked up to Wonshik, suddenly being face to face with him. Too close. “...go?”
It was like Wonshik’s eyes were pulling him in. Wonshik was handsome; it wasn’t like Jaehwan hadn’t noticed, he wasn’t blind. But up close he was gorgeous. There was something in the older’s eyes that Jaehwan couldn’t read. Something mysterious. Something… sad. He didn’t realize he was leaning in until his lips touched Wonshik’s, feeling the warm chapped skin under his soft ones. Wonshik’s eyes fell closed. Jaehwan was frozen on top of him, completely unmoving. He finally gave in and closed his eyes and pressed his lips harder onto Wonshik’s, but pulled back right away. Wonshik’s eyes stayed closed. Jaehwan crawled back, Wonshik’s fist loosening on his shirt. He must have fallen asleep. Jaehwan left the room and closed the door. He sighed, letting out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
‘What am I doing?’ he shook his head ran upstairs to his room. He wasn’t nearly as wasted as the older thanks to years of being isolated. Being an outsider, the son of a gangster with no friends, didn’t leave him to do much more than to get drunk often. He could keep his liquor pretty well.
He searched through the bag of clothes he brought with him and pulled out a burner phone. He dialed the number already saved in it.
“Hi, dad.”
“No, he hasn’t suspected anything.”
“He’s… I don’t know… dad maybe we shouldn’t-”
“Listen, I really don’t think he has any ill intentions.”
“Yes, dad.”
“Goodnight.”
..
Wonshik was in pain. His eyes were closed but he could still see the sunlight from behind his eyelids and it was blinding. Why did he sleep with the blinds pulled up? Wait... when did he even go to bed? Why was he in so much pain?
He slowly opened his eyes, covering them with his hands immediately. He sat on the bed with difficulty. Fuck. It got even worse. A sharp pain spread through his skull. He groaned in pain. The door of his room opened.
“Morning, sunshine,” Jaehwan said cheerfully. Wonshik groaned louder. Jaehwan’s smile wasn’t all that different than the sun, almost as bright. “How are you feeling?”
“How do you think?” Wonshik replied, voice sounding like it was coming from miles away.
“Here, I made you something.” He walked into the room and stood in front of the older with a mug in his hand.
Finally, something to block the blinding light. Wonshik leaned forward, his forehead resting on the younger’s belly. Jaehwan hesitantly patted his head. Wonshik… moaned?
“Aw, who’s the dog now?” Jaehwan snorted.
“What?” Wonshik growled, pulling back from the soft comfortable wall that was Jaehwan’s stomach to look up at him.
“You don’t remember? You told me I remind you of your dog.” Wonshik just stared at him in shock. He should not have bought beer in the first place. “And then you told me that it’s a secret.”
This wasn’t good. Wonshik thought hard, trying to remember as much as possible. The last thing he remembered was laughing and lying on the grass.
“Don’t worry, you didn’t tell me any other secret. You didn’t even tell me your age!”
“I’m really sorry.” Wonshik sat back, pinching his nose. “It was irresponsible and unprofessional of me to-” He was trying to apologize but the younger interrupted.
“Hey, no worries. We’re all human. Happens to the best of us.” He patted Wonshik’s shoulder, handing him the mug.
I’m barely human.
“This looks like a green poison.” Wonshik winced.
“It’s not! It’s my mom’s hangover smoothie. Believe me, it doesn’t even taste that bad.”
Wonshik looked at him suspiciously. The boy just smiled sweetly. Wonshik took a gulp of the thick smoothie. It really wasn’t that bad.
“See?” Jaehwan beamed.
“How are you even functioning right now? We had the same amount of beer,” Wonshik asked after drowning half of the mug in go.
“I used to be an alcoholic when I was a teenager. Tough times.” He sighed dramatically and sat beside Wonshik on his bed.
“So like… two weeks ago?”
“Ha ha. Says the man with an unknown age who can’t drink 6 beers without dying,” Jaehwan snorted. “Anyway, we should probably chill today. You look like you can barely move your arms.”
“Yeah… probably,” Wonshik groaned. He was admittedly not a fan of drinking. He never had friends to hang out and get drunk with and always found the whole ‘drinking your sorrows away’ extremely idiotic. Why should your liver pay the price for your mistakes?
“And since I beat you, we’re getting pizza.”
“When did you beat me? In your sleep, princess?” Wonshik tried to smirk but his face looked like he was getting a penicillin shot.
“Last night, in drinking,” he said proudly.
“That doesn’t count. That wasn’t even-” Wonshik tried to deny.
“Uh uh! You passed out. I beat you. I’m borrowing your car, see you in a few hours handsome.” Jaehwan winked and he was out of the room in a blink.
What did I get myself into…
..
Jaehwan came back in a couple of hours, which was sooner than Wonshik thought. Wonshik had only moved from his room to the couch in the living room. He could not find it in himself to even go to the kitchen.
“Honey, I’m home!” Jaehwan called from the door. “...You still look like shit, dude.”
“Thanks,” he growled. Jaehwan left the pizza on the kitchen table and came back with a glass of water.
“I can’t believe I’m taking care of you.” Wonshik took the glass thankfully. “Go take a shower, I’ll reheat the pizza.”
“Where did you even get it so fast?”
“The next town. Figured we’re closer to it than the city.” He shrugged.
Wonshik took a quick shower that left him feeling a lot more alive than a few hours before. He walked into the kitchen barefoot, in comfy clothes and a towel around his neck. Jaehwan smiled at seeing him. “Hi.”
“Hey! You look like a person again.” Jaehwan beamed, putting a plate in front of him. Wonshik sat, inhaling the smell of pizza. Jaehwan sat down in front of him with a plate in front of himself.
“You waited for me?” Wonshik asked shyly. He figured Jaehwan would eat and leave some for him while he showers.
“Of course! I wanted to eat together.” He smiled, eyes turning into a crescent moon. “Who would wanna eat pizza alone?”
Wonshik felt something in his heart break. Or maybe it was a broken part falling back into its place. All his life he had eaten alone. Even when he lived with his master. He fought hard not to tear up, but his face couldn’t hide all the emotions that were threatening to burst out. He nodded, not trusting his voice to speak. Jaehwan gave him a sad, understanding smile and they ate in silence. Not an uncomfortable or awkward one, just peaceful. They understood each other in ways most people didn’t.
Jaehwan picked up his plate when they finished. “I rented a movie, can you plug my laptop to the TV? I’ll do the dishes.”
“Uh… sure.” Wonshik felt weird in his stomach. Not from the food, but from everything that had happened that day. He didn’t know how to feel about all of this. He knew technically he wasn’t allowed to feel anything, it’s what his master always used to tell him. Feelings make you vulnerable. He felt vulnerable. No one had ever seen him the way Jaehwan did that day. No one had ever seen him being a mess. But Jaehwan did and he understood.
He plugged the laptop in eventually after zoning out 5 times. Thankfully he was done when Jaehwan came into the living room with a huge bowl of popcorn.
“You can’t have a movie night without popcorn!” Jaehwan said before Wonshik could complain. He handed Wonshik the bowl and went to his laptop. He typed a few things and then a big Netflix logo showed up on the screen. He walked back and sat right next to Wonshik with no space between them.
“What movie did you rent?” Wonshik asked. Jaehwan just smiled and pointed to the television.
It was Kung Fu Panda.
“Seriously? Out of all the movies you could’ve rented…”
“Shut up, you haven’t seen it and that was something to be fixed. Now watch.”
Wonshik couldn’t believe he was sitting next to a child with a big bowl of popcorn in his lap watching a kids’ movie.
Okay, maybe the movie wasn’t so bad after all. The panda was hilarious.
“This is us. I’m Shifu and you’re Po,” Wonshik said, making Jaehwan laugh.
“Hey! I wanna be Tigress.” He pouted.
They kept talking and laughing and rewinding the movie. Wonshik didn’t remember the last time he had laughed so much in his life.
“Actually, I think you’re Tai Lung,” Jaehwan said, licking his salty fingers.
“Yeah. A monster that needs to be locked up,” Wonshik said quietly, trying to fake being upset.
“No, I didn’t mean it like that… I meant like he’s a sexy snow leopard and so skilled he basically whacked the furious five!”
Wonshik stared at him for 5 seconds before he bursted into laughter. “Sexy leopard huh!”
“Snow leopard! Don’t laugh, you’re so mean,” Jaehwan cried. Wonshik laughed harder.
They kept bickering about how Jaehwan thought that Tai Lung actually deserved to be the Dragon Warrior and Wonshik didn’t.
Eventually, the movie ended and the screen went black. It was dark outside, they had finished more than half of the bowl and Wonshik felt like he was going to explode if he ate another kernel of popcorn. They sat in silence for a few minutes until Jaehwan spoke. “So, how was it?”
“It was not bad. Okay, it was good, I enjoyed it,” he finally admitted. Although he was sure it wouldn’t be half that enjoyable if he had watched it by himself.
“I know you didn’t mean it but…” Wonshik didn’t know what came over him but a strange feeling in his gut was telling him to tell Jaehwan about his past. “I really am like Tai Lung.” He took a deep breath. Jaehwan didn't interrupt him.
“My teacher found me fighting on the street when I was young. I was an orphan living out there. Some older boys tried to take the food I had worked for and earned all day. I think there were 4 of them. I beat them all up and took back my food. To be honest I don’t even remember how I managed to fight them all. Anyway, he saw me do that and took me in. He trained me to be the best killer. A monster,” Wonshik said, voice breaking at the end. Jaehwan grabbed the bowl and put it away on the table and turned his body towards the older.
“Wonshik, look at me.” He took Wonshik’s face in his sticky, salty hands. Wonshik looked up after a few long seconds of fighting his tears. “You’re not a monster.” Jaehwan spoke firmly, like he was ordering Wonshik to believe him.
Wonshik shook his head, a tear falling on his cheek. “I am, Jae, I have killed so many-”
“Tell me. How many innocent people have you ever killed? For fun or because they annoyed you?” Jaehwan asked. Wonshik paused. He had only ever killed targets he was given - other gangster members or bosses. People who betrayed the boss. He was never one to take jobs like killing cheating husbands and such.
“Exactly. Listen to me. You are not a monster. That man took advantage of you. He made you into a weapon. But you’re still human.” Another tear fell out of Wonshik’s eye, and then they kept coming. Jaehwan pulled him into his chest, holding him tightly. They stayed like that with Jaehwan rubbing his back as he sobbed into the younger’s shoulder. But his sobs eventually quieted. They stayed cuddled up on the couch with Jaehwan’s arms around Wonshik and the older’s head on his shoulder.
“The first day of my training, I was 12… maybe 13, he left me in the cabin for 2 days.” Jaehwan remembered his first day. He was left for only a few hours and he was an adult. “There was only some bread in the house, no light, no heating, and the animals’ sounds during the night… I thought I was gonna die there,” he said, voice hoarse from crying.
“That man was a monster. God, you were just a kid!” Jaehwan tightened his grip around his shoulders. “How old were you when you joined to be my dad’s hitman?”
Wonshik pulled back a bit, running his fingers through his hair and then laying sideways on the couch to be face to face with the younger. Jaehwan’s hands were on his knees drawing meaningless shapes. The gesture was oddly calming. “Barely 16. It was the night of that big attack. I saw you there, you were just a baby.” Wonshik chuckled bitterly. “You can figure out my age now,”
“What, 35? 36? You’re still so young…” Wonshik stood up, walking in circles in front of the couch.
“Can we just.... pretend tonight and last night never happened?” Wonshik asked, voice shaky.
“You remembered?”
“Not at first but… It came back in pieces,” Wonshik confessed. He was trying really damn hard not to think about the feeling of having Jaehwan’s lips on him.
The younger nodded, head dropping low. “We should go to bed. We start early tomorrow to make up for today,” Wonshik said and left to his room and closed the door.
Jaehwan let out the breath he was holding shakily. He was near tears, he didn’t know what to do. He didn’t know if he could do what his father had asked him to.
..
The next few weeks were spent on hardcore training. Wonshik trained him using different stuff, from fighting with wooden sticks to fighting with one arm tied behind his back. He even taught him some unique methods of shooting with a gun.
Jaehwan expected Wonshik to act cold after that night, but he didn’t. Just as he said he would, he pretended like those two nights never happened. He was still strict and professional during training and relatively friendly the other times.
“I want a ghost gun,” Jaehwan said during one of their shooting practices. “In red!”
Wonshik blinked at him in disbelief.
“The whole point of a ghost gun is to be untraceable. A red gun won’t need a serial number to be tracked to its owner.” Wonshik rolled his eyes. Jaehwan pressed his lips together, making them form a straight line. He did that when he was annoyed. “But yes, you need one. We will get you one soon.”
“Hey, I was thinking… There was a mall in the town I went that day to get pizza. We could maybe go and hang out there for a while? It’s been forever since we left here…” Jaehwan asked hesitantly, like he thought Wonshik would get mad.
“Sure. Do you need something specific?”
“Uh… no?” Jaehwan arched one brow.
“Then why do you wanna go to the mall?” Wonshik looked like he seriously had no idea.
“Have you never went to a mall to just hang out and look?” Jaehwan shouldn’t really be surprised at this point.
“No. I don’t like being around too many people.”
“Don’t worry, it’s not a big mall. There won’t be that many people,” Jaehwan assured him.
He was wrong.
..
“I mean… It’s a small town,” Jaehwan laughed nervously. “It’s their only mall probably, and it’s the weekend so…”
They had arrived at the mall around 5 in the afternoon the day after. It took them 20 minutes to find an empty spot in the parking garage. Jaehwan kept insisting to go back but Wonshik said it was fine. The inside wasn’t much better.
“Jaehwan, it’s fine. I don’t have social anxiety, I just don’t like big crowds. It’s no big deal.” Wonshik shook his head, smiling.
“But I wanted you to have fun!” Jaehwan pouted. Wonshik stared at the crowd, people buzzing around doing their own thing. Being alive. Wonshik was a killer. He took lives, sort of like the Grim Reaper. It didn’t feel right to be among normal people like women and kids.
“I’m not sure I can have fun at all.” He chuckled but no humor was behind it.
“Hey! Don’t do that.” Jaehwan frowned.
“Do what?”
“That! I know what you’re thinking. You think you don’t deserve to be happy and have fun because you… because of your job.” He took a deep breath before continuing, “But listen to me, you had no other choice. You had to do everything you could to survive. This isn’t your fault, you didn’t choose this life.” He took one of Wonshik’s hands in his, rubbing the rough knuckles with his thumb.
Wonshik squeezed Jaehwan’s hand in his and smiled. “We should go inside, we’re kinda blocking the way.”
They walked in front of the shops, aimlessly looking at everything.
“I never understood the appeal of browsing the mall when you don’t need anything.”
“Seriously? I love walking around and looking at stuff. Plus I always end up buying a ton of shit I don’t need.”
“I usually order everything online and if there’s something that required me to go to a mall I go straight to the target shop and leave as soon as I make the purchase.”
“Do you make everything sound like a mafia-y job on purpose or is that how you talk?”
Wonshik was holding his stomach and laughing out loud in the middle of the mall. A few people looked at them weirdly. No one had ever made Wonshik laugh like this in his life. Sure, he had to laugh at his boss’s lame jokes and victim-to-be’s when he was undercover, but a real genuine laugh? In public? That was a first. He had this warm feeling in his stomach for a few days now. Maybe weeks. Maybe he should see a doctor.
..
There was a sweet little cafe on the top floor of the mall with a glass ceiling and a gorgeous view of the small rural town.
“This is kinda nice,” Wonshik said, looking around the place. It was a good habit to check for any blind spot or the emergency exit in case something happened.
They picked a spot near the window; the sun was setting and the sky was changing colors every few minutes. Wonshik felt like he was seeing the sunset for the first time, even though he had spent countless days outside doing ‘work’ or training and sometimes following targets all day, which included the dusk.
A click sound shook him out of his thoughts. Jaehwan had taken a picture of him looking outside at the sunset.
“Delete it.”
“What? Why? You look so handsome and the light was perfect-”
“I said, delete it,” Wonshik said, this time more harshly. Jaehwan pouted and looked at him with round glossy eyes.
“Don’t you at least wanna see it first?” he said in a small voice.
Wonshik huffed. “Fine, let me see.”
Wonshik couldn’t believe the person in the picture was him. This guy looked… handsome, chill and… normal. He shook his head.
“It’s nice, but you have to delete it if you don’t want both of us to be in danger.” He sighed. It was for the best.
“Okay…” Jaehwan frowned and tapped on his screen a few times. “See? Gone.” He turned his screen towards Wonshik.
“Thank you.”
They ended up buying a bunch of useless stuff they probably didn’t need: a set of cute small jars for keeping different spices, (Jaehwan insisted the spices needed a better home), napkins with pictures of Kung Fu Panda on them, scented candles, and a small reading lamp that sticks to the edge of a book.
“Do you even read?” Wonshik teased.
“Excuse you! Of course I read.”
“What was the last book you read?” Wonshik asked, crossing his arms. Jaehwan made a sound that was a mixture of a shriek and a groan and started walking faster towards the car. Wonshik just laughed, walking faster behind him.
..
They made a small meal when they came back for dinner, both feeling almost full with the huge cheesecake they shared at the cafe. This meant Wonshik cooked and Jaehwan chatted his ears off while sitting on the counter. Jaehwan did set up the the table, though. He lit their new candle in the middle and put their special napkins on the plates and everything.
Wonshik didn’t know what he was going to do after this whole training thing was over. He wasn’t sure if he could go back to cooking alone in silence, for one, and eating alone in his apartment. Jaehwan had made the old cabin feel so lived-in and warm it felt like he had lived there all his life. Wonshik was never happier to be living in the cabin.
“So, was this fun after all?” Jaehwan said, taking the wet plate Wonshik handed him to dry. Washing the dishes together was another thing Wonshik was going to miss.
“It was. Although, I think movie night was more my type.”
“Oh so you like staying-in, watching movies, and cuddle dates.” He giggled.
“We did not cuddle.” Oh wait, they did. But they were pretending that didn’t happen. Jaehwan’s whole face sort of melted down. He suddenly went from smiley and giggly to cold and stoic.
Wonshik didn’t know what to do. He didn’t mean to hurt the kid. But he was still figuring out what happened that night.
“Jaehwan I...”
“It’s okay, I forgot- that didn’t happen,” he mumbled, looking at the tiles under his feet, then turning back to walk away and out of the kitchen. Wonshik caught his wrist, pulling him back. He stumbled and fell into Wonshik’s chest.
“I’m sorry,” Wonshik said without letting go of the younger’s wrist or doing anything to put some distance between them.
Jaehwan shook himself away from him, but not too far. “It’s okay, I just stumbled.”
“No, I mean… For…” He tried to find the words but he didn’t know what he wanted to say.
“For what?” Jaehwan inched closer, looking up at Wonshik with round, deep brown eyes that seemed like a black hole..
“I…” Wonshik’s face lowered like it was being pulled down by some cosmic force.
Jaehwan’s lashes fluttered, looking back and forth between Wonshik’s lips and eyes.
It happened in 0.02 seconds. One second they were staring at each other, and the next both had their eyes closed, and the only part of their bodies that were functioning were their lips. Wonshik had lost count of the times he had stared at the younger’s lips wondering how they would feel under his. How they taste. When they rounded over the water bottle. When he bit them right before pulling the trigger. When they stretched to a huge grin, showing off his perfect teeth.
So Wonshik didn’t waste any time to get the answers to his questions.
They felt so so soft. Softer than babies’ skin. And so warm Wonshik felt like his lips were on fire. They tasted like cranberry. Wonshik had seen him carry around a red lip balm everywhere, using it every few hours.
Jaehwan opened his mouth, licking Wonshik’s lips, encouraging him to do the same. Wonshik bit his bottom lip, pulling it back a little just to let it go and do it again, this time sucking it in his mouth, tasting every inch of it. They stumbled backwards until someone hit something.
Jaehwan’s back had hit the fridge. Wonshik used that opportunity to push his body closer to the younger. All his life he had never craved another human being so much. Man or woman. He had been with both. Requirements of the job, or occasionally filling the empty space beside him in bed if he needed someone, something, to help stop the voices in his head.
Jaehwan circled one leg around Wonshik’s waist, pulling him even closer. Wonshik clawed Jaehwan’s jeans with one hand and held his face with another.
“Take me to bed,” Jaehwan panted with shiny lips, glossy eyes and pink cheeks. “Please...”
Wonshik didn’t need to be told twice. He caught Jaehwan’s lips again, blindly pulling him towards his room. He grabbed Jaehwan’s other thigh, pulling it up towards his waist. Jaehwan circled his arms around his neck, now completely off the ground and hanging off Wonshik like a koala. Jaehwan giggled, hiding his face in the crook of Wonshik’s neck. The walk to Wonshik’s room was short. He lowered the boy on his bed as gently as possible, like he was dealing with a delicate flower. Jaehwan’s legs fell open as soon as his back hit the mattress, Wonshik towering above him. Wonshik took a moment to admire the beautiful boy under him, memorizing every detail. He kissed Jaehwan again, stealing his breath away and making him squeal.
For just a few hours Wonshik threw away all his concerns. His past. His job. His boss.
A few hours to taste Jaehwan, to explore and worship every inch of his body.
..
They didn’t talk about it the next day. Or the next day. Or the next.
It had been almost a week. Wonshik didn’t ask him to ‘pretend it never happened,’ didn’t really say anything. They went back to training from early morning until the wee hours of the night. But it happened again. And again. During the day they would train. They would kick and punch and shoot. The tension building up as the day went by, until it would break.
“Have you finished your mission?”
“No, dad… I need more time,” Jaehwan stuttered.
“It has been months, boy. What are you doing? Raising a child?” the voice on the other side of the line said mockingly.
“It takes time, dad, there are still things he hasn’t told me yet,” he insisted.
“You have one week.” The call ended.
Jaehwan squeezed the small phone in his hand until it crushed. He was helpless. He didn’t know what to do. He couldn’t do it.
He couldn’t kill Wonshik.
He had doubts from the beginning; not that he had never killed anyone, but it was different then. They had been attacked numerous times and he had a gun that he had to use a couple of times. He was defending himself and his family.
His father insisted that it was the same.
‘He has become too powerful, son. I heard words that he’s plotting my murder. He would kill me, you and your mother and everyone we know and love to take what I have built my whole life with blood, sweat and tears.’
Jaehwan wanted to ask who’s blood, sweat and tears his father was talking about but he didn’t dare. He didn’t have a choice but to obey his father, the king.
He thought if the guy really is as bad as they say he is, it wouldn’t be that hard. He didn’t even need to fight him or look him in the eyes and pull the trigger; he just needed 6 drops of Flunitrazepam and it was done. But not only was he certain that Wonshik has no plan to attack them, he was now in love with him.
With the passing of each day Jaehwan got more jittery. Every day was one day closer to the one week mark. He tried to tell Wonshik; he practiced 100 times what to say, but he couldn’t. What if Wonshik didn’t believe him? What if he didn’t like him back? Or worse, what if he killed him for lying to him? The last one was highly unlikely, but still.
Wonshik kept asking what was wrong, but he just said he was tried. He even declined Wonshik’s suggestion of going out. He was too afraid to go out. It was easier to attack them if they were outside.
Another week passed and nothing. Jaehwan was starting to think that maybe his father had changed his mind. But he knew he wouldn’t just do that. He was just waiting for the right time to strike when they were expecting it the least.
..
Wonshik heard noises. He was a light sleeper; he had to be always alert.
He moved quickly, taking the gun from under his pillow and carefully walking up the stairs towards Jaehwan’s room to inform him about the intruders. He opened the door slowly. The boy appeared to be asleep under the heavy covers. They hadn’t been sleeping together since Jaehwan started acting weird for the last few weeks.
“Jaehwan, wake up!” he whispered, hoping it’d be enough to wake him up. It wasn’t. He stepped into the room, gun in hand. He lowered the gun when he reached the bed. He went to shake the boy awake but it was just... pillows?
Something hard hit him in the head and the world went dark.
He woke up in the back of a van. He opened his eyes with difficulty. He found that his wrists and ankles were tied. His mouth wasn’t. He turned his head, looking around. Jaehwan was lying unconscious beside him. He turned to the other side, finding an armed man in a mask was sitting up beside him.
“What did you do to him you son of a bitch?” he barked. The man kicked him in the gut. His hands were tied back so he had nothing to protect himself with.
“Shut up, scum.”
He couldn’t believe this had happened. How did it happen? How did he not notice earlier?
More importantly, how did they find them? No one knew the location of the cabin except him and the boss since the teacher had died and no one knew they were there except the king himself. It didn’t make sense. Why would the king kidnap them in the middle of the night? His own son was there!
The van came to a stop. A groan was heard from his left where Jaehwan was lying. He was waking up.
“Jae? Are you oka-” Another kick landed on him before he got to finish his words. Jaehwan moaned, eyes barely open. There was pure fear in his eyes.
Wonshik wasn't scared. He was trained for this, he knew how to get out of it but Jaehwan wasn’t. Yes, Wonshik was training him but to become like him would take years of training and experience.
“Don’t be scared, Jaehwan-ah, we’ll be alright!” he shouted before they were separated and taken into different rooms. It was really dark and Wonshik’s vision was still hazy from the hit on his head. But... that hallway looked familiar. They threw him into a room that looked like an underground illegal interrogation or torture room. They locked the door. He landed on the side that had been kicked by the masked guy in the van. He groaned in pain. Eventually, he passed out.
He woke up in another room. He was tied to a chair this time by his arms and legs. The room was spinning and everything hurt. He lifted his head with difficulty to find himself nowhere but in the king’s office, just as he had suspected.
“Rise and shine.” It was the king’s voice coming from across the room. He looked around. Jaehwan was in the corner on the ground, hands tied in front of him, clothes half torn and dusty and his face was colored in bruises.
“Jaeh...” He tried to call but barely any sound came out. He didn’t understand. Why was Jaehwan beaten? Was this because they slept together? It didn’t seem like a fitting punishment.
“What do you want?” Wonshik asked, voice hoarse. His throat screamed in pain.
Finally, the man came into view.
“I want - my useless son - to do his job.” He kicked Jaehwan after every pause. He cried in pain. Wonshik was trying to free himself of the chair but no use.
“Leave him alone, you sick bastard! What the fuck do you want?” Wonshik barked louder.
“It wouldn’t have come to this, you know? If he had done his job you would be dead right now. A peaceful, quiet death. But as the drama queen he is-” another kick “-he had to make things difficult.” He grabbed the boy by the collar and pulled him up to his feet. He pulled out a gun from the back of his pants and planted it into Jaehwan’s hands. The boy sobbed.
Wonshik tried with the younger. “Jaehwan, what’s going on? Please?”
The boy just sobbed harder, the gun almost slipping out of his shaky hands.
“He was supposed to neutralize the threat that is you,” the King spat.
“Since when am I a threat?” Wonshik asked with wide eyes. He couldn’t believe after all those years of spotless clean work that this was his reward.
“Since you decided to take my legacy. My kingdom.”
“Why would I- are you crazy? If I wanted an empire, I would’ve built myself one,” Wonshik growled. “Besides, if I actually wanted you dead, you would never hear of it. You’d just simply be dead.”
“No need to play innocent.”
“You’re being paranoid! What, you’re getting too old? Do you have some kind of terminal disease?” Wonshik chuckled. The man took the gun from Jaehwan’s hand and shot Wonshik’s right leg. Wonshik just pressed his teeth together, the cry dying in his throat. Lee put the gun back in Jaehwan’s hand and lifted the boy’s arms himself like a marionette.
“Now be a good boy for once in your life and do as your father’s told,” the man whispered in Jaehwan’s ear, making him shriek and cry. He shook his head, tears running down his face like a waterfall.
“Prove that you’re worthy of this chair after I die!” he shouted in anger. He was losing his patience.
Jaehwan stilled, looking dazed. His cry had stopped; he dragged the back of his forearm on his cheeks, drying the tears, and nodded. He stepped closer to Wonshik on the chair. Jaehwan lifted his arms, holding the gun towards Wonshik’s head. He kept coming closer. He was looking at Wonshik but he wasn’t there. Wonshik felt cold all over his body. The boy stopped only one step away from the chair with the gun a few inches away from Wonshik’s head.
Wonshik looked down. He couldn’t bear looking at the younger while he shot him. But one second later Jaehwan turned around, gun pointed at the King.
The man froze in his spot, not expecting the tables turning.
“I never asked for this chair! I never asked for any of this!” Jaehwan shouted, voice not shaking anymore. “I have always been just another one of your pawns.”
The man shook in anger. “You are my heir!”
“See? That’s exactly what I’m talking about.” He threw his hands up, still holding the gun.
“Son, put the gun down,” the man said gently, trying to get into Jaehwan’s head by using soft words, but Jaehwan was done.
“Don’t call me son. You never treated me like a son. Hell, you treated Hakyeon more like a son than me!” he cried. “I did everything you wanted. I always wanted to be an artist. A creator. But you killed all the light and creativity in me when I was still young. You had me homeschooled from the age of 12. I never had any friends.” His voice was trembling but his hands weren’t. While the two were in a heated argument, Wonshik tried to break the zip ties. He didn’t succeed. His hands and legs weren’t tied together so it was almost impossible to break the ties.
Jaehwan had lowered his arms and let his guard down by getting emotional, and the king used his vulnerable moment to pull another small gun from his back, pointing it at his son.
“We both know you won’t shoot me. You don’t have the balls.” The man laughed like a psycho.
“Kill him or I will kill him right in front you and then kill you. I don’t need a coward as a son.”
Wonshik had no way of breaking out of the chair. They were running out of options. Jaehwan was sobbing with the gun in his hands pointed at his father.
“Jaehwan, hey. Look at me,” Wonshik called. Jaehwan turned his head around to look at him. He had to walk to the side of the room to be able to keep his gun at his father and see Wonshik. The three of them formed a triangle in the middle of the room. “It’s okay.” Wonshik nodded and smiled bitterly at him. He could feel the warm blood running down his legs.
“N...no! No! I won’t. I can’t.” Jaehwan shook his head, more tears streaming down his face.
“Listen to me. It’s going to be okay. I’m okay. Just do it,” Wonshik urged him. Jaehwan cried harder, shaking his head. “Let us say goodbye,” Wonshik said, looking at the king. Jaehwan kept crying ‘no’.
“Very well.” The king nodded, lowering his gun down halfway.
“Jae, come here.” Jaehwan was shaking in his spot. “Please?” Jaehwan eventually walked towards the chair on shaky legs, dropping to his knees in front of the older. Wonshik leaned forward as much as his tied limbs allowed him to. Jaehwan buried his face in Wonshik’s shoulder, arms hanging limp beside him.
“I’m s...so sorry, I should've told you. I wanted to, but I was scared you would-” Wonshik didn’t let him finish.
“Shhh, it’s okay,” Wonshik whispered in Jaehwan’s ear softly.
“Wonshik… I can’t, please…” he begged.
“Listen to me. I have lived more in the last few months with you than I had the whole 30 years of my life. It’s alright, you can do it,” he reassured. In all honesty, Wonshik wasn’t afraid of dying. He had to live with the fact that any breath could his last, and most of the time he had nothing to lose but his life. But now he had Jaehwan and he couldn’t lose him. And between his life and Jaehwan, he had no doubt which one he wanted to keep, even if he didn’t live to enjoy keeping it. Keeping him. The boy with a billion stars in his eyes and the sun in his smile. The boy who begged to have 5 more minutes to sleep every day and wouldn’t stop whining until he had his belly full. The boy who laughed without a care in the world, a laugh that would make every person around laugh too. The boy whose lips were softer than rose petals, whose body was the only thing Wonshik had ever worshipped.
Jaehwan. The boy who showed him life and the one who would take it away.
Jaehwan stood, walking back slowly, tears silently falling down his pink and bruised cheeks. He held his arms straight up in front of him, the gun pointing at Wonshik’s heart. Good, it would be quick.
“Look at me. Everything's gonna be okay. Just pull the trigger.” Wonshik did his best to smile. He wanted Jaehwan to remember him with a smile. His only regret was that he didn’t get to kiss the boy one last time. He nodded at Jaehwan, tears starting to fill in his eyes. He didn’t want to cry in front of that nasty man.
Jaehwan took a deep breath. It was only a matter of seconds until it was all over - for Wonshik at least. He let his eyes fall closed and counted in his head.
1… 2… 3… 4... 5… 6… 7…
Bang!
Was it over? Was he dead? He didn’t know; he didn’t feel anything.
Wonshik opened one eye, slowly scanning around. He was not dead - which meant someone else might be, unless the bullet missed. Jaehwan was still standing in front of him, frozen with wide eyes. He seemed to be unharmed. Wonshik opened both eyes looked around for the King.
He was on the ground laying in a pool of his own blood with a bullet right in the center of his wrinkled forehead.
“Jaehwan? Can you hear me?” Wonshik called. The boy jumped, looking at him in fear.
“What happened?” the younger asked, not moving from his spot.
“I don’t know. Can you untie me?” Jaehwan looked around the room. No sharp object was around. He kept looking in the drawers but found nothing but a lighter.
Jaehwan melted the plastic ties, trying his best not to burn Wonshik. He was mostly successful.
The door to the room opened as soon as the last tie was broken. Wonshik grabbed the gun Jaehwan had left on the ground quickly and pointed it at the door. It was Hakyeon, the king’s right-hand guy, with a gun in his hand.
“Hakyeon?” Jaehwan gasped, running towards the tall man. The man dropped the gun and caught Jaehwan in his arms while Jaehwan sobbed. Wonshik stood up with difficulty, leaning on his uninjured leg.
“I’m sorry, Jaehwanie. I couldn’t let him do that to you, you would’ve never recovered from killing an innocent man... And your lover.” Hakyeon caressed Jaehwan’s cheeks softly. Wonshik was confused.
“But how?” Jaehwan asked. Hakyeon pointed at the life-size portrait of the king hanging off the opposite wall.
Wonshik squinted his eyes, scanning the painting. There was a bullet hole in it.
“The secret emergency exit. Only me and the King knew about it,” Hakyeon explained.
“I thought you were his most loyal dog,” Wonshik accused. The older gave him an unimpressed look.
“I am loyal. But not to him,” he answered, looking back at Jaehwan with adoration. What was going on between them?
Jaehwan answered before he asked. “Hakyeon raised me. He was the one who homeschooled me. He did his best to protect me from my father.”
“No, Jaehwanie, I should’ve done better. Go, I’ll deal with this mess.” He pushed the younger towards Wonshik, urging them to leave.
“What will you do?” Jaehwan asked, moving towards Wonshik to help him walk.
“As far as I’m concerned, you're the boss now.”
“Can you do this one last favor for me?” Jaehwan asked.
“Anything.”
..
“...And then... you draw a big circle for the body,” Jaehwan instructed cheerfully. He was sitting in front of a small green table in front of 3 small kids. “Good job babies! You are so talented!” he cooed, patting their heads. The bell rang and all the kids awed. “I’ll see you guys soon, alright babies?” He went and said goodbye to every kid individually; some of them teared up. The kids loved him.
It had been 6 years since that day... the day they thought it was all over.
They had taken one of the untraceable cars from his deceased father’s garage and drove to Jaehwan’s flat. He only needed a few things. Then they went to the dog nursery to pick up Wonshik’s dog. They needed to disappear for a while until all the mess quieted and for Hakyeon to do the favor Jaehwan had asked.
They went to the cabin and burned it to the ground. They only took the things they had bought themselves.
“Aren’t you gonna miss this place?” Jaehwan had asked before Wonshik threw the lighter.
“...No,” Wonshik sighed. “The only good memories I have of this place are with you. And we’re taking them with us wherever we go.” He had pulled Jaehwan by his waist and kissed his forehead before dropping the lighter. They watched the place burn and then left for the small town close by. They stayed at the motel there for a few days with no real plan. Jaehwan doubted anyone would actually come after them with Hakyeon running the business, but Wonshik insisted they don’t stay in one place until Hakyeon gave them the clear. They moved around for almost 5 months while Hakyeon worked on demolishing the organization from the inside. It was what Jaehwan had asked him; to tear the whole thing up from inside out. He wanted nothing to do with it.
After it was all over and Hakyeon assured them that there was no threat, they came back. But they didn’t stay in the city. It didn’t feel right. So they moved to a small town near where the cabin used to be. They both had enough money in their multiple bank accounts that they didn't need to work for the rest of their lives, but they didn’t do that.
They only took out enough money to rent a decent place to stay and get them by while they found jobs. Wonshik started working as a handyman. He could fix almost anything that was broken. Jaehwan started working part-time at the kindergarten. They got by. Most importantly, they had each other. They decided to keep the money in their accounts until they became stable enough and to only use that money if they absolutely needed it. They never had to do that, except for Jaehwan’s college.
Jaehwan got accepted to the small college near the next town. It was only an hour and a half distance. But they couldn’t afford it with their current incomes. Wonshik insisted they use the money.
“That man took away so much of your life. You deserve to pursue what you truly love.” So they did, and donated the rest of it anonymously to their town. All of it. It was enough to rebuild the whole place.
In just a couple of years, their small town grew. New businesses, more visitors, and better service for the people.
Jaehwan studied graphic design in the next two years. Wonshik bought an empty store in a good deal and got himself a tool shop along with working as a handyman. They were both adored by everyone in the small town. All the kids loved Jaehwan and the parents adored him. Wonshik, although at first a bit cold and quiet, was friendly and polite and all the customers were always happy.
Jaehwan walked home from kindergarten; it was just past 4. He stopped at the pastry shop and bought a small chocolate cake, their favorite. He put the cake in the fridge when he got home because Wonshik wouldn’t be home in a few more hours.
“Hi baby,” Jaehwan squealed, crouching down to pet the dog. He had grown so much. Jaehwan cleaned the house, did laundry and showered.
It was a special day for them. The day they had their first kiss. Not the drunk one. They argued the first year about which date was better to set as their anniversary. Jaehwan thought the day it all almost ended was more appropriate. They found a new beginning. But Wonshik thought the day was way too horrific to be set as their anniversary. So they agreed on the other one.
Wonshik always texted when he was on his way home so Jaehwan had nothing to worry about. He wore some nice clothes, not too formal or anything, just nice and cozy. He put the cake and 5 candles on it with some rose petals scattered on the table. Wonshik opened the door with his keys, peeking inside before stepping in. Jaehwan could see the huge flower bouquet from behind him.
Jaehwan welcomed him with a chaste kiss. “Happy anniversary princess,” Wonshik mumbled on his lips.
“Happy anniversary,” Jaehwan giggled. Wonshik handed him the bouquet, and Jaehwan cooed, smelling the pretty flowers.
“You know, I started calling you princess as an insult at first but here we are,” he teased, leaving feathery kisses all over the younger’s face.
Jaehwan blushed to his ears, giggling and hiding his face in the crook of Wonshik’s neck. The man still managed to make him blush after all those years.
It wasn’t perfect. They had struggles and they had bad days - days where Wonshik couldn’t leave the bed, feeling too weighed down by the guilt of killing all the people he had, days where Jaehwan had nightmares about his father killing Wonshik in front of him. But they got through them together. They had each other.
Their life together was everything they never knew they wanted: a simple house in a small town, with the ball of cuteness that was their dog.

part of the VIXX Parallel Collab hosted by @uwugalore , the song that I chose to base this off was Chained Up :)
a/n: I really enjoyed being apart of this collab thank you !! <3
You shivered, your thoughts, once halfheartedly focused on whatever the man across the table was saying, now honed in on the fingers trailing along your inner thigh. The action from Hakyeon’s touch next to you caused electricity of arousal to course through you, your lip tugging between your teeth as you abused the supple flesh.
You breathed out a shaky breath, knowing you had to endure his teasing and relentless touches throughout the night. Hakyeon was the boss, the head of a mafia business that ran rife with drugs, sex and murder, and he loved it. He was power hungry and greedy, yet it contrasted his composed and elegant nature that often drew people in. You suppose if you saw him at a glance, you wouldn’t think of him as a man who’s been the cause of so much death and destruction, yet here he was, with more blood on his hands than there was in your body.
Hakyeon’s touch was destructive as he plunged 2 fingers into your sopping core under the dinner table as if nothing was happening. The action caused you to squirm, the thick choker you wore was tight on your neck as he continued to drag the pads of his fingers over the sensitive spot.
You wanted to beg him to stop, make him stop giving you the pleasure you so desperately needed at the most inappropriate time. Though Hakyeon didn’t care, he was the boss, he was your owner and you were chained to him, your armor down and your body defenseless as he used you for his pleasure, in ways for him to get off.
His expression was concentrated, nodding along and processing information he didn’t care about from his subordinate. Hakyeon was much more concerned with the ache in his own pants and getting you desperate and needy in front of people he hardly cared about.
“I’ll contact Taekwoon on getting the target disposed off,” His voice was unbothered as he spoke, his fingers and tone acting as if he wasn’t sentencing a man to death; because that’s what he did.
The curl of his fingers and the insertion of a third digit brought your attention back to him and his hand. Your nails dug into your knees, trying to suppress the urge to moan loudly in the middle of dinner as the rest of his men continued to eat.
Hakyeon’s eyes flicked to your own, a sadistic glint arising in the orbs as he saw the pleading look written across your features. You wanted to cum, but you also wanted him to stop, to rather take you home and please you there if he was so desperate to do so.
“Can I go to the toilet?” Your voice was weak, quiet as you tried to stop yourself from moaning.
Hakyeon smirked, curling his fingers right into the spot that had you seeing stars, “Why?” He murmured the syllable against your ear, his lips placing a chaste kiss to your skin, “Do you not have faith I’ll let you finish?”
“N-No-”
“Then what is it?” Hakyeon growled in your ear, his thumb pressing deliciously against your clit as spoke. The action caused you to bite your lip, hard enough to taste blood as you tried to hold yourself in.
“Can we go home? Hakyeon, please I can’t take it-”
“Fine,” His tone was clipped, taking his hand out from under your dress and wiping his soaked fingers on the napkin seated across his lap. You felt empty yet relieved as he stood up, his hand cupping your own and muttering some excuse to his coworkers before leaving the dinner table briskly.
Hakyeon didn’t speak, his expression stony as he casually left the restaurant with you on his arm. You cringed as you felt your arousal drip down your inner thigh, your hand squeezing his as you tried to ignore how flushed your cheeks were.
The night air was cold, crisp against your skin in comparison to the warm atmosphere the restaurant provided. Hakyeon’s pace was leisurely, torturing almost as you were ready to run out of the building and into the nearest available wall for him to raw you against, yet you held yourself in as he walked toward the curb.
The limo you had both arrived in was still stationed out front, Hakyeon entering the expensive car with you in tow behind. He tapped gently on the blacked out window to the front cabin, opening it slightly and speaking instructions to the driver that were a blur to your aroused state.
Hakyeon relaxed back into the luxury leather seat across from you, his eyes glinting in the low light as he looked to you. “Come.” His instruction was simple, one you’d knew to obey as you moved to straddle him.
His thighs were tense, warm and inviting as your skin met with the expensive suit fabric adorning them. The hard feeling of his dick against your skin had you sucking in a sharp breath through your teeth.
“You know you’re mine,” His voice was calm, his hands smoothing up your thighs as he continued to speak, “That means I can do what I want, when I want,” He growled the last three words, his grip tightening on your thighs, “You’re chained to me, that choker on your throat is the symbol of what you are.” His lips are hot on your collarbone, sucking deep marks along the flesh, “And what you are is my toy to use and break.”
“Yes Hakyeon,” You knew better than to say anything else, your neck arched and your body was at his disposal as he continued to please you.
“Do you understand what I’m saying?” His lips were on your ear, tongue darting out to lick and suck on the lobe, his actions blurring your thoughts as you tried to keep a clear head.
“Yes Hakyeon,” You couldn’t help but moan his name, your hips subconsciously grinding against his own as you felt his hands trail further up your thighs.
“Good,” His fingers dug into your ass, a proud smirk arising on his lips as he relished in how he ordered you not to wear panties to dinner. You whimpered at the feeling, your own hands digging into his clothed shoulders as he ground his hardened bulge against your wet heat.
“Take me out, baby,” Hakyeon licked his lips, his body relaxing back into the seat as he let you unbuckle his belt. You bit your lips, your fingers quick to pull his boxers and slacks down past the curve of his ass, letting his hardened cock spring free. His hand was on your hip as he positioned you over the reddened head of his dick, grinning at the pleasurable moan that fell off your swollen lips as you sunk down onto his length.
“Good girl,” He cooed gently, “Now ride me, you’re here to serve me and my needs.” The smirk on his lips widened as he watched the way your face contorted in pleasure, your sopping pussy taking in his cock so well and desperately, “Maybe if you’re good enough I’ll let you cum,” His thumb pressed down on your clit, the bundle of nerves shooting white hot pleasure through you as he continued to rub at the sensitive nub, “Maybe…”

Welcome Home, Soldier
Tumblr media
Pairing: N (Cha HakYeon) [VIXX] x Reader
Word Count: 1.5 k
Genre: Idol verse, Military, Romance, Fluff, Angst?
Summary: 21 months. 21 months is how long it’s been since he started his enlistment. At times, you missed him. But at others, it felt like he was still with you– his footprints and all those hidden years together, comforting you– reminding you that you will walk together once more.
a/n: First I would like to thank @minoru-hayashi for their feedback on this story. This is a tearjerker and one that I’ve wanted to write for a while. PLEASE NOTE: I know nothing about what happens when someone is discharged from the Korean Military. I tried to look it up and I couldn’t find any clear/consistent resources in English. So a lot of this is made up but is based on my general knowledge of what I think goes on.
Song: Walking

21 months. 21 long… long months. Sometimes it felt like it wasn’t that long, like it was just a mere few days since you ran your hand over his freshly buzzed head. Other times it felt like eternity— there were days you wondered if you had imagined it all.
But it was finally over. All those months apart. All those brief, lingering visits, leaving you wanting for far more.
It was all finally over.
Well… not really. But there was no longer as large of a wall between the two of you. You were no longer walking a different but parallel path to him— to your HakYeon.
Getting up and getting dressed had been strangely surreal. You kept everything relatively the same since HakYeon’s been gone. Everything was in its place. You still used the same fabric softener before he left (so that your sheets on the days you missed him most wrapped you in that familiar and calming scent), the same brand of rice (even though you knew he’d scold you for wasting money like that)— it was all a means of keeping him near you, even if just in your mind.
It certainly helped that his bandmates included you in activities whenever they could. You all missed him. Everyone missed him in their own way. You missed him coming home, late at night (even for the brief time you were living together before his enlistment) and dropping down onto the bed, enveloping you in a hug and falling asleep before you could even rouse yourself enough from sleep to greet him.
TaekWoon would never admit that he missed him, but you all knew. He started taking on HakYeon’s mannerisms, for one, becoming almost overly affectionate in his hyung’s absence. JaeHwan was probably the most vocal about missing him, often calling you up after seeing something that reminded him of HakYeon. Then the two of you would do something that would comfort you both, whether it be going out for ice cream or playing video games— or rather, HongBin and JaeHwan played video games, cursing at each other while you watched on. WonSik… WonSik was your surprisingly strong one. Despite being the most baby of them and the most emotional, he’d been surprisingly strong— trying to pretend to not miss HakYeon, pretending that he doesn’t miss his guidance, especially with everything that happened in his own life. HongBin took it probably the hardest. HakYeon was always there. Always the strongest, always the one you could turn to for a hug, or for some sort of comfort, or to be a source of strength. SangHyuk stepped up. HakYeon was no longer there to be relied on. So it was all up to him now. He had to be strong one (both literally and figuratively) for everyone else.
The ‘ottokaji’ ringtone on your phone pulled you from your musing as you finished getting ready for the day. Grabbing it off the side table, you smiled. It was a text from JaeHwan letting you know that they’d be there to pick you up soon. Well apparently that ‘soon’ was sooner rather than later, because as you glanced out the window on chance, the group van rolled up to your apartment building, with JaeHwan looking at you from the window of the car, making all sorts of kissy faces at you and waving.
You couldn’t help but giggle as you grabbed the last of the stuff you needed, you rushed out the door, and practically bounded down your apartment building stairs. At the base of them, you were huffing and puffing as JaeHwan rolled down the window. “Come on! We’re going to be late.”
“Yes, Ken-jhumma.”
“Yah!”
HongBin opened the back door for you and you slid into the car. You greeted all of them as you buckled in and TaekWoon drove off. There wasn’t any worry about over crowding— HakYeon’s parents would be driving the two of you back to your apartment after all of the festivities.
Through out the car ride towards the base where HakYeon would be discharged, the six of you made small talk, mostly surrounding what you would do at the festivities later and how excited you were to have him back.
Your heart rate began to race in your chest as you drove closer and closer. This was it. The moment you’ve been waiting for for a couple years. As the trees grew sparser and sparser you couldn’t help by feel thankful: his discharge would be private, family and close friends only. No prying fans, it was just be a happy intimate moment before your lives would return to back to their usual chaos before he left to complete his civic duty.
Despite it being a private ceremony there were many fans waiting outside, all holding up various posters and trying to get as good of a look as possible in the compound. HongBin helped you out of the car as you looked over at all the fans held up posters with HakYeon’s face and some with other idols who were also being discharged. It made you a little nervous as some of the fans glanced over in your direction from behind the barricade, whispering to each other, but JaeHwan squeezed your shoulder reassuringly, helping you relax a little.
A few minutes later (after presenting your pass to the guards, of course), the six of you found yourselves inside the main gate. You looked around the sea of people, all eager to welcome home brothers and sisters, fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, trying to find HakYeon’s family. After what felt like an eternity, you heard HakYeon’s mother call your name. Turning towards her voice, you called back, waving at her frantically.
Your little group met up with theirs and there were greetings and hugs to be had. HakYeon’s mother was at your elbow, both of you silently supporting each other as the tension in the air rose and rose. It was unbearably exciting but also, deep down, you were scared.
What if he changed? What if you changed? Could he have met someone else? Question after question ran through your mind.
A silence fell upon the crowd and it was like a knife had cut through your thoughts— halting them completely. A lieutenant asked that immediate family made their way to a certain building, the rest were to wait in the current area. Hakyeon’s mother gave you a small hug before she joined her husband, heading off to see their son as he finished the last moments of his enlistment.
You stood with SangHyuk, his huge body protecting you from the glaring light of the sun, waiting for the family only ceremony to finish. Even as you chatted about nothing at all, it was nerve wrecking— just standing and waiting. You needed to move, you needed your paths to cross once more.
Suddenly, the doors leading to the building where the ceremony was being held opened.  The crowd practically moved like one, facing that direction. Everyone shoved passed each other (some more politely than others) trying to meet with their friends and family that they’ve been missing for so long.
You got lost in the crowd, losing SangHyuk (somehow despite his unruly height) in the process. You stood there, spinning around as the crowd dispersed, trying to catch a glimpse of someone you knew. Then you saw him.
He was like a beacon in the dark. His smile bright, his face tanned from all that marching in the sun. He stood there like a prince in his formal military band uniform, the uniform almost fitting his now bulkier frame almost tightly. His service had aged him, but only just. After all, he seemed to have aged like fine wine, getting better with age.
Your breath caught in your throat. You couldn’t believe it.
It was like your body knew what it had to do before you even did. You practically launched yourself at him, wrapping your arms around him as your kissed his face, making him laugh and smile even more brightly as he held you against his chest.
HakYeon buried his face in your neck, breathing in your scent and you felt his tears soften the skin of your neck. He whispered, “I missed you.”
Happy tears began to blur your vision as well, one hand reaching up to caress the back of his head, cradling it against you. “I missed you, too. You did well. Thank you.”
He pulled away from your neck long enough to kiss your lips gently. “Thank you.”
You giggled as he pressed his forehead against yours as he squeezed you in his arms. “Welcome home, soldier.”

Song: The Closer
VIXX PARALLEL Collaboration Masterlist
Tumblr media
Here she was again. Back at his club. Even after all those times she walked away from him, she always came back. Always came back to play her games: to play with hearts— to break them. Even in the dim lighting of the club— PARALLEL— she was a sight to behold. As always.
SangHyuk sat at the back of the lounge near the bar, nursing his rum and coke. Well, just coke, really. The boss had to be in his right mind in case something bad happened, after all. The police could make a raid for whatever god forsaken reason they deemed worthy this time. Or a fight could break out over who got to take home a lady that.
The latter was more likely. Especially with her here.
She always came like the wind, fluttering by, almost like she didn’t want anyone to know she was there. But once the music took over her, it was like she had cast a hypnotic spell, luring in unsuspecting victims like a siren.
SangHyuk swallowed as she settled in on the far side of the bar, calling to the bartender, WonSik, for a drink. Like everyone else in PARALLEL, WonSik, the strangely shy yet charismatic bartender was at her beck and call; she was siren after all: claiming the love and desire of all her victims, man or woman. God, she was dazzling as she smiled sweetly at WonSik— it was as if she didn’t know what effect she was having on the poor man— or anyone else for that matter.
Perhaps, she didn’t. After all, she never left the club in the arms of anyone, but she did leave a trail of broken hearts behind her as she left. Or perhaps, she knew. And this, this game of broken hearts, was indeed all a game her.
As if sensing SangHyuk’s gaze up on her, she turned towards him in her seat, drink in hand. She smiled at him. Fuck. She knew what she was doing. It was not the usual sultry bedroom eyes he’d seen her shoot at other men, eyes that he grown used to seeing after years of being in the club.
No, she knew. She knew how to get him: how to seduce him. Innocence. Innocence was like a drug in this world of thrumming lights and a pulsing orgy of dancing bodies. She got up from her seat and walking towards him, almost shyly.
She knew what she was doing. And he loved every moment of it. Over the sound of the music of the club, she called out, “Dear owner, what are you doing drinking alone? Be careful. What might your loyal patrons think?”
SangHyuk chuckled before taking a swig from his coke. “They’ll say that he’s been seduced by the Siren. They’ll say he’s plotting.”
She laughed. “And what could the owner be possibly plotting?”
SangHyuk set his drink before standing to his full height, towering over her. She looked up at him with large eyes. They were not afraid. They were hungry. He ran his hand through her hair and gently tugged her hair so that she looked up at him properly, and not throw those eyelashes. “How to make the little Siren his. And no one else’s.”
She smirked. “I’d like to see you try.”
That challenge set something off within him. “Do you, now? You think you can stay away, little Siren?”
“The real question is: can you stand to have your heart broken? Again?”
SangHyuk chuckled before looking deeply into her eyes. “Do you want to dance?”
“God, yes.”
He untangled his hand from her hair and instead put it at the small of her back, leading her to the dance floor. A small bit of pride filled him. No one had managed to seduce her right back— to get her to the dance floor when she’d been far more happy in the past to seduce from the sidelines. And now here he was, taking her to floor where dozens of eyes were upon them, most in jealousy, others in curiosity.
She was his.
The moment they were on the dance floor she struck, wrapping her arms around his neck and beginning her seduction. SangHyuk smirked. Two could play at that game. He gripped her hips and dances with her, making sure she knew exactly what she was doing to him.
Was this love? Or was this lust? He wasn’t sure. But all that he knew was that after months and months of this game of cat and mouse, he was going to win. He was going to win this war that she started. He was going to make her his.
She was like a drug. The feel of her smaller body against his. The way she looked up at him. He couldn’t get enough of her. She let him have control— she let him move her, but only because she wanted to. This was all a game to her, he knew. But by god, he was going to conquer her.
Just as their dancing was reaching a new height, she yanked him down to her level for a scorching kiss. His grip on her tightened as he all but growled. He wanted all of her. She moaned into the kiss and his desire for her grew.
But all too soon, she pushed him away with a finger as she pulled away from the kiss. SangHyuk looked down at her confused. In turn she looked up at him, smirking. “That was fun, Mr. Owner. Let’s do this again, next time.”
She tapped him on the cheek as she walked back towards the bar to pay her tab. He stood there, dumbfound.
But the time he realized what had transpired, she waved at him from the top of the steps that would lead out of the club and blew him a kiss. She mouth, ‘Better luck next time.’
She was a Siren. And he lost to her. He won the battle, maneuvering her to the dance floor with him, but had lost the war. She was yet to be his.

Gamer Vibes
Tumblr media
Pairing: Hongbin (Lee HongBin) [VIXX] x Reader
Word Count: 1.1 k
Genre: Crack... it’s literally just crack with a little bit of romance(?) thrown in.
Summary: Why? Out of all the people your subconscious had to dream up in dreamland, why did it have to be your number one streaming competitor?!?!
a/n: No editing just threw this together. I had to really churn this out to get this out when I saw all my mutes posting that it was Hongbin’s birthday. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy. This is a mild roast if ever I’ve seen one.
Song: Rock Ur Body
VIXX PARALLEL Collaboration Masterlist
Tumblr media
“… Another victory for me!”
“Fuck!” You yelled as you threw off your headset.
God, how could that smug bastard keep winning! “No hard feelings, I hope.”
“Damn you, pretty boy!”
“Now, now. That’s no way to talk on a stream.”
Fuck. Him. You disconnected your stream for the third time this week unceremoniously and collapsed back in your chair. Fuck him. Fuck Lee HongBin.
You got up from your gaming desk and made the short walk to your bed, throwing yourself on it, face first. Normally… normally, another gamer wouldn’t get you so worked up like this. You were kinda known on Twitch to be a rather easy going gamer. But with Lee HongBin… he brought out your feral side. That stupid contrary attitude paired with that even more stupidly handsome face worked you up… in more ways than you care to admit.
Sighing, you looked up at the clock. 9 pm. Far earlier than you’d like to go to bed, but with how upset you were over losing to that bastard, not once, not twice, but multiple times in Overwatch, it was just easier to sleep away the shame.
It was hazy and yet, so familiar. Like it had been some place you’d visited as child. As you stepped through the musty room, it slowly grew more and more familiar, especially as the old fashion gaming consults grew in vibrancy and familiarity. This was the gaming center that you spent every moment you could in during your childhood. It was the place you felt most comfortable. It was the place that bloomed your love of games.
For hours it seemed you hopped between the different consoles, reliving all of those wonderful childhood memories… until you spotted it. It was a game you had never seen. The classic 80’s console was an off white color with decals on the side of stars and spaceships. The decal on the top of the machine had the image of a blue robot head with the words ‘Fight for ROVIX 6” in big bold, golden letters. In front of the console was a stool.
Normally, you’d ignore it, but something was pulling you in— drawing you in to sit down and play this game you’d never seen before. The moment your butt touched the stool, the game rubbled to life, playing that classic 8-bit synthesizer noise. As the game gave you the back story for the mission you’d complete, you familiarized yourself with the joystick and buttons.
A moment later, the game began. And you were suppose to defeat… space vampire? Ok, weird, but ok. Once that level had been beaten, it moved on to the next then the next one, with each level of creatures to be defeated getting weirder and weirder. Some where just out of place (Love slaves? Really?) while others were excellent villains but still didn’t make sense (Perfume mafia? Ok….).
Level after level you defeated them all and with each level, your determination grew. Then… you reach the boss level. The music changed and got even more exciting. This was it. You were about to defeat this weird, new game.
Then… it went black. You cried out in frustration. No! You were about to defeat the final boss! You kicked the machine in frustration.
“Hey, are you so much of a child as to kick the poor innocent machine when you’re just not worthy to play it?”
You knew that voice. You stood up and turned around. It was him. Lee HongBin. Why the ever loving fuck was he in your dream. “What do you want?”
He gave you a dimply smirk and walking over to you. You stared at him as he approached you. He stopped right in front of you. Damn him. Damn him and his dimply face. “I ask again, HongBin: what do you want?”
“Well…” he leaned in to whisper into your ear. “I’m the final boss.”
He pulled away from you and you stared at him. Deep down, you knew this was a dream, but that didn’t make this any less scary… or exhilarating.
“Fine, final boss. What’s the challenge?”
“Dance battle.”
Your blood went cold. You were anything but coordinated. For goodness sake, you tripped over air! There was no way you were going to beat him in a dance match. He tilted his head. “Shall we?”
He walked straight past you and you turned. The console was no longer there. Instead, a dance game took it’s place, the same decals and relative design was the same though. He stepped onto the platform and looked over at you as to say, ‘Chicken?’
You took him up on the challenge and stepped on to the platform. As soon as you had yourself settled on your side, HongBin said, “Why don’t we make this interesting.”
You sighed, “What now?”
“How about a wager? If you win, I do whatever you ask. If I win, you to whatever I ask. Deal?”
He held his hand out to shake. You took it wholeheartedly. Fuck yes, you were taking this deal. “Deal. I’m going to kick your ass.”
He scoffed. “We’ll see about that, princess.”
You made a face at him and pressed the start button. The game started off slow with songs like ‘Rock MY Body’ and ‘Chained Down.’ The dances gradually grew harder and harder until you leaned over with your hands on your knees breathing heavily, trying to catch your breath.
“You think you can go one last round, princess?”
You looked over and there he was, standing there like he hadn’t broken a sweat. Fuck. Him. “Let’s go, you bastard.”
He laughed. “Last one. Let’s see if you can keep up.”
You gave him one last dirty look as ‘SuperVillain’ started to play. The two of you began dancing but as it went on, you found yourself being drawn in by HongBin. It was like he was controlling your body. You started feeling sluggish— it wouldn’t do what you wanted it to. Suddenly the buzzer sounded: you had made the wrong move. It broke the hazy cloud in your head and you stared at the screen. You… you lost.
HonbBin smirked at you and walked towards you, trapping you against the hand rail (When did that get there?)
You scrunched your eyes closed, a little scared. You heard him chuckle then the feeling of a pair of lips ghosting over yours. “Your ass is mine in the next round of Overwatch.”
You bolted away, covered in a thin sheen of sweat. You panted, touching your lips. What the actual fuck was that?
Your phone dinged, startling you. You picked it up, looking at the Twitch message.
from [DIMPLED F**KER]: Sorry about today? Wanna get your ass kicked tomorrow?
Fuck. Him!

Author’s Note: This story is for the VIXX Parallel Collaboration! This has been really fun to write! I got the Song Reincarnation, so I really hope you all enjoy it!
Summary:  Sanghyuk has been working for the government for as long as he could remember. He was a mutant, with the ability to jump into people’s dreams. The government told him he was helping people, but when he gets kidnapped he is forced to face the truth of his work.
Link to full Masterlist in bio
A man lies on a bed in the middle of an empty room. He looks like he sits on the lap of luxury, what with the golden rings that adorn his fingers. His eyes are closed, and his breathing is deep and even. Most would assume the man was asleep. But the beeping machines that are connected to him tell a different story. Yoon Seokmin, one of the wealthiest men in the world, is the man in the bed. He had fallen into a coma after he had a massive stroke. His family have tried everything to wake him from his coma, and now they were on their last hope.
Suddenly the door to the room Seokmin is in opens. A cot is rolled into the room. On the cot is a young man, no older than twenty-four. His eyes seem dead to the world, as if he was also in a coma. The men that rolled the cot lift the young man up and place him in the bed next to Seokmin.
In the corner of the room is an older looking woman. She looks nervous, and her nails are bitten down to the nub with how anxious she had been the last week. Seokmin is her husband after all, she doesn’t want to see him get hurt in any way.
Another woman in a lab coat rests her hand on the nervous woman’s shoulder. “Don’t worry Mrs. Yoon. Sanghyuk has done this many times. We haven’t had any issues with his abilities yet. Now if you would please step up to the observation deck we’ll be able to start the process.” The doctor is kind enough, but her tone has an edge of annoyance to it.
Mrs. Yoon goes to kiss her husband on the forehead before she heads up to the deck. The doctor walks to where the young man, Sanghyuk, lays resting on the bed. Another doctor rolls in a complicated looking machine. If one were to look at it, they might get a headache from the number of flashing buttons on it. The doctor takes a plug off of the machine and pulls a little bit of wire free before she turns to the young man on the bed. She leans down until she reaches his ear.
“This is just a regular procedure. You go in, and you get him out. Remind me your safety gesture.”
Sanghyuk moves for the first time to tap at his stomach three times.
“Good. I’m going to hook you up now.”
The doctor turns Sanghyuk onto his side before putting the plug in the outlet in his neck.
Sanghyuk’s eyes turn completely black as he does his work.
Sanghyuk had been jumping into people’s dreams since he was a child. At first he didn’t know he had been doing it. He just thought he was having a lot of dreams with people that he knew in them. But when some agents from the government knocked down his door and stole him from his home he learned what he was. Some agents called him a mutant, others a freak of nature. Whatever he was the government had been watching him and deemed him important. They trained him to do what he was doing now. They taught him how to jump into people’s dreams at will. They taught him to manipulate the dreams to his use. Eventually his ability had evolved enough for him to use his ability on coma patients.
Sanghyuk had learned early on what the government had kidnapped him for. They did it for the money. Wealthy people were willing to pay anything to get their loved ones out of a coma, even if it meant doing some under the table dealings. So there Sanghyuk was. Doomed to live the rest of his days in other people’s dreams.
Sanghyuk opened his eyes and was met with a large black room. He sighed before he got up from the floor. Dark rooms were a typical sight for coma patients. Sanghyuk found Mr. Yoon in the middle of the room, sitting on a throne.
“Hello Mr. Yoon.” Sanghyuk said as he approached the stern looking man.
Seokmin turned around to look at the young man behind him.
“Who are you?” The old man said, his nose high in the air.
“My name is Sanghyuk. You’re in a coma. I’m here to get you out.”
“A coma? Then how are you here?”
“That’s difficult to explain, sir. But can you please get off your throne. I need to get you out of here so your wife can be at ease.”
Seokmin looked the other way. “And if I refuse?”
“You die.”
Seokmin looked shocked. “I thought you said I was in a coma?”
“You are, but if you stay here any longer you can never go back to the living world. You wouldn’t want that would you Mr. Yoon?”
Seokmin was quick to jump out of the throne. “What do I need to do to get out of here?”
Sanghyuk grimaced. “There’s only one way I know.”
Sanghyuk took a few steps back. He closed his eyes to see what Mr. Yoon's past dreams could tell him about his fears. Once he found what he was looking for he transformed. His skin grew thick and scaly. He mouth filled with endless rows of teeth. His eyes glowed a bright red. When he screamed at the old man it sounded like the roar of a beast. Mr. Yoon screamed before he suddenly disappeared. Sanghyuk was met with a bright light after that.
When Sanghyuk opened his eyes again he was greeted with the ceiling of the lavish room was in before. Mr. Yoon was breathing heavily right next to him. When Mr. Yoon saw Sanghyuk he scrambled away from him. Sanghyuk sat up.
“Don’t worry Mr. Yoon. You’re safe now. I’m practically powerless in real life.”
Sanghyuk didn’t say another word as the doctor from before came in and unplugged him from the machine. Once he was unplugged Sanghyuk got up from the bed and left the room. Mrs. Yoon rushed past him to see her husband and the doctor collected their payment.
Once Sanghyuk ate and rested from the procedure he walked over to the sun room. Sanghyuk was not allowed outside the facility the government kept him in. They were afraid he would never come back if they allowed him to leave. Sanghyuk couldn’t say they were wrong. He missed being able to go outside without being unconscious. He missed feeling real grass under his feet, and feeling the real sun on his face. He supposed the sun room was the closest he was going to get to that dream. Sanghyuk sat in the fake grass of the sun room, thinking about what it would be like to leave. Suddenly the door to the sun room opened. It was the doctor.
“Hello Sanghyuk.” She said, a clipboard in her hand.
“Good afternoon Doctor Kim. I thought we said you wouldn’t come into the sun room when I was in it? Something about being nice?”
Doctor Kim’s face twisted into one of annoyance.
“And I thought we gave you the sun room so you wouldn’t scare patients out of their comas. Remember that?” Sanghyuk rolled his eyes.
“It was the fastest way to get him out. What did you want me to be there with him for three hours as I calmly led him through the recesses of his mind?”
“I would prefer that to the amount of times I had to hear that he could have died from fright.”
Sanghyuk scoffed as he laid down on the grass.
“Whatever. I got the job done and no one died. You should be happy.”
“Should I be? We had to give them a discount on our services so they wouldn’t sue us for the stunt you pulled. Do you even care about your work anymore?”
Sanghyuk looked ready to kill Doctor Kim.
“I never cared about the work. That’s why I’m not outside remember? You kidnapped me from my home! I haven’t seen my family in nineteen years because of you.”
Doctor Kim sighed.
“Looks like you need to be sent to your room.”
Before Sanghyuk could protest three big guards stormed into the room. They grabbed Sanghyuk by the arms and legs and carried the struggling man to his room.
Sanghyuk probably hated his room the most. All that occupied it was a bed in the center of the room. The walls were made of mirrors. No matter where he looked his face was looking right back at him. He had tried to break the walls before, but they were indestructible. He could admit that he was afraid of himself, who wouldn’t be when they were talked about like they were the monster under the bed? So to sit in a room where all he could do was look at himself was terrifying.
Sanghyuk was thrown into his room and left there until his next procedure. Doctor Kim would find him wrapped in his blanket, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Sanghyuk was given the details of this new procedure as he was being rolled down the hallway of the facility.
The patient was young. And they weren’t told the name. All they knew was the family was willing to pay a lot of money to get their loved one out of the coma they were in. To the facility that was all that really mattered.
Sanghyuk was rolled into the room and placed on the bed like before. Doctor Kim didn’t plug him into the machine, however.
“He’s young. And he hasn’t been in the coma for too long. I don’t think we need to enhance your abilities for this one.” She said has she made sure Sanghyuk was laying down on the bed comfortably.
“I don’t care how long it takes, you will take your time to get him out or so help me I’ll lock you in a room for a week. Do you understand?”
Sanghyuk nodded before he slipped into the other man’s dream.
When Sanghyuk opens his eyes he isn’t really sure how to feel. Every time he has been in a coma patient he wakes up in a blank room. But this time he wakes up in a cozy recliner next to a roaring fireplace. He looks around and notices that he is in a living room of some sort, if the couches were anything to go by. He looked to the window and saw it was snowing outside.
The young man he was in calmly walked through a door that looked like it opened into a kitchen. In his hands was a tray of tea and cookies.
“Oh good, you’re awake.”
“Where am I?”
The young man sat down.
“You’re in my dream silly. That’s why we hired you.”
Sanghyuk was even more confused than before.
“Wait. You know you’re dreaming? Aren’t you in a coma?”
“Technically yes. I put myself into a coma so I could talk to you. Tea?”
Sanghyuk refused the tea.
“I don’t drink tea.”
“Oh that’s right. You like hot chocolate better. Give me a sec.”
The young man looked at the cup and before Sanghyuk’s eyes the cup of tea became a mug of hot chocolate.
“That’s better.”
Sanghyuk gawked at the other man as he accepted the mug.
“Who are you?”
The other man smiled.
“My name is Jaehwan. It’s nice to finally meet you. I’ve heard a lot about you from some of my associates.”
“What do they say?”
“They say you have a lot of potential. But the government has you fooled into thinking you’ve peaked in what you can use your abilities to do. Tell me how long have you worked for them?”
Sanghyuk shrugged.
“Since I was five maybe? I think that was when they kidnapped me to do this.”
“Tell me more.”
Sanghyuk shook his head.
“That’s all there is to it. They took me away from my home. When I was little they justified it by saying I was going to help people. I believed them for so long.”
“What snapped you out of that mindset?”
“I don’t know. I think I finally realized their intentions when I realized we were only helping rich people. I never ‘healed’ someone who couldn’t afford my services. I think that was what finally tipped the scale for me. I thought to myself, ‘If someone who needs me is rejected because of money then what’s the point?’ I’ve resented the facility ever since.”
Jaehwan nodded and stood up from where he was sitting. He crossed over to Sanghyuk’s chair and squatted down so they were eye level.
“How do you feel about getting out of the facility?”
“What?”
Jaehwan smiled up at the younger man. “I said how do you feel about getting out of here? I can make it happen. All you have to do is say yes, and me and my friends can get you out. You see Sanghyuk, we’re all like you. Mutants that the government wants to use to get what they want. But we don’t let them. You can join us. You can be a part of our little family. We’ll let you see the sun and feel the grass and the wind in your hair.”
Jaehwan looks over to the window closest to him.
“You can feel the snow. Do you even remember what the snow feels like?”
Sanghyuk bites his lip. Was this a test? Did Doctor Kim set this up to see how loyal he was? Was he going to be locked up in his room if he said yes?
Jaehwan seemed to read Sanghyuk’s mind as he said, “Don’t worry. This isn’t a test. You can be honest with me.”
Sanghyuk looked up and nodded.
“I really want to leave.”
Jaehwan smiled.
“Alright then. Let’s get out of here. You and me are gonna stay right here while my friends get us out. Just stay here and enjoy your snacks while I go give them the signal really quick.” Sanghyuk nodded and took his snacks to one of the couches.
Meanwhile in the real world Taekwoon was looking for the signal. He and Hakyeon were posing as the concerned family members. Wonshik and Hongbin were waiting outside in the getaway car. Taekwoon looked intently at the still figure of Jaehwan until he finally caught it. Jaehwan flexed his right hand and then his left hand before flexing the right again. Taekwoon looked over to Hakyeon who nodded before grabbing the other man’s hand. The doctor in the room with them must have sensed something was off.
“Is everything okay?”
Before Doctor Kim could speak more there was a gun in her face.
“Take us down to the room and no one gets hurt.”
One of the security guards in the room reaches for his gun. Hakyeon was quick to shoot him in the knees before he finished drawing his gun. Taekwoon sneered at the doctor.
“Take us down now!”
Doctor Kim looks over to the man bleeding on the floor before she agrees. She leads the two men back down to the room Jaehwan and Sanghyuk are in. She decides to speak on the way down.
“Who are you? What do you want with Sanghyuk?”
She doesn’t get an answer.
Once they are in the room Hakyeon is quick to handcuff Doctor Kim to the bedpost. Taekwoon quickly wraps a blanket around Sanghyuk before lifting him up.
“You wanted to know who we are?” Taekwoon finally says as Hakyeon lifts Jaehwan. Hakyeon finishes Taekwoon’s thought.
“We’re just your friendly neighborhood mob. See you around!”
With that Hakyeon and Taekwoon stand back to back before they suddenly disappear. Doctor Kim is amazed. She didn’t think there were more mutants like Sanghyuk. She struggles with her handcuffs, swearing revenge on anyone involved in this breach.
Hakyeon teleports all of them to their safe house a few towns away. When they arrive Hongbin is at the door waiting for them.
“Is this the boy you saw in your vision Hongbin?”
Hongbin nods. “I’m glad we got him out of there. If he had stayed, he would have been dead in three days.”
Taekwoon nods before he carries Sanghyuk to one of their guest rooms.
“Do me a favor Wonshik? Do you think you could rush to the store for some ingredients I need for dinner.”
Wonshik nods before taking the list from Taekwoon. Wonshik is back in a second with the groceries. Hakyeon looks at him disapprovingly.
“What have I told you about freezing time while you do errands? I hope you left them the money this time.”
Wonshik waved Hakyeon off before he left the room.
“Do you want to go tell the boss we’re home so he and Sanghyuk can come back?” Hakyeon says as he takes the groceries to the kitchen.
Taekwoon nods as he summons his magic mirror. He puts in a call for one of the mirrors in Jaehwan’s mind castle.
Back with Jaehwan he was learning more and more about Sanghyuk. About the things he liked and what his interests were back when he was free. There weren’t many since Sanghyuk was so young, but the interests he had were cute. Jaehwan noticed that he was really interested in the outside. Whenever there was a lull in their conversation Sanghyuk would look out the window of the little cabin they were in.
“Do you want to go outside Sanghyuk?”
Sanghyuk whipped his head towards the older man.
“Can I go outside here?”
Jaehwan let out a huff, but he didn't seem annoyed. It seemed more like a child had just asked him the same question.
“Not here. If you go out that door you might see things you don’t like. We are in my mind after all. But when we get out of here I can show you around our safe house. It’s winter outside. You can feel real snow.”
Sanghyuk smiled at the idea of feeling snow again.
Suddenly there was a tap on one of the mirrors in the room.
“That must be Taekwoon. I’ll go answer it.”
Jaehwan walked over to the mirror and traced around its edges. The face of another man appeared.
“You guys can come out now. We’re home.”
With that the other man left. Jaehwan turned to Jaehwan and outstretched his hand.
“Shall we?”
Sanghyuk took the hand offered to him. He was greeted with a light so bright he had to close his eyes.
When Sanghyuk opened his eyes he saw he was in a white room. He sat up in his bed, afraid that it had all been a dream. He tried to get out of bed but someone held him down.
“Sanghyuk! Sanghyuk please calm down!”
Sanghyuk looked to the person that was holding him down. It was his mother.
“Mom?”
His mother teared up. She looked older than the last time he saw her. That was to be expected with how long he had been away from her.
“Where am I?”
Sanghyuk noticed he was alone with his mother.
“Where is Jaehwan?”
“I’m right here Sanghyuk.”
Jaehwan walked into the room. His friends were behind him.
“I don’t understand. Where are we? Is this your safe house?”
“Safe house? I don’t know what you mean. We’re in the hospital. You’ve been in a coma since you were very little. I don’t know what finally caused you to wake up, but I’m glad it worked. We were just about to give up hope.”
Jaehwan walked over to the bed and tapped on Sanghyuk’s hand.
“I’m glad your mother never gave up on you. She’s the reason we didn’t pull the plug on the experimental treatments we were doing. Now, I think you’ve been in bed long enough. How about we take a stroll outside? Well, you might need a wheelchair since you haven’t used your legs in a while. But you need some fresh air.”
Sanghyuk nodded.
As Sanghyuk was wheeled down the hallway he had no idea how to feel. Had he really dreamed all of those years? Had he really dreamed of being saved? Who was to say this wasn’t a dream? Sanghyuk wanted to pinch himself to check. He didn’t have to when he saw it was snowing outside.
“Funny. I could have sworn the forecast said the snow wasn’t coming until tomorrow. We’ll just have to take that walk tomorrow.”
Jaehwan was about to turn the chair around when Sanghyuk hit the brake. Sanghyuk struggled, but he got himself out of the chair on shaky legs. He stumbled his way outside until he finally fell to the grass. He rolled so he was on his back and looked up at the sky. He felt every little snowflake fall on his body. He felt the bitter cold seeping in through his back. Tears poured from his eyes as he looked up at the heavens.
Reality was cold, but he for once in his life he felt warm.
