Jane’s relationships: Heartslabyul

Note: These relationships are merely platonic. So there’s no romance here.

(Contains spoilers for the fic!)

Ace Trappola

The first student she ever saw at NRC (back when she and Grim were assigned as janitors) and at the time, she thought he was just another rowdy teen. Who knew spending practically her whole time at NRC would change that.

He’s now one of her best friends, right next to Deuce. She and him are basically a bunch of little jokesters.

Though they do butt heads at times, with Jane wanting Ace to be more respectful and follow rules and Ace complaining that she’s too bossy about those sort of things.

Ace likes to tease her, just to mess around with her.

He and Deuce are one of the few that knows everything about Jane; from her life back home to her vents about being homesick and her frustrations with Crowley constantly pressuring her to do things.

Because of this, despite his general attitude, he cares about her. He’s willing to lend a shoulder for her to cry on, listen to her when she has no one else to turn to, he’s willing to be a good friend to her.

“Hey, I know you miss em, but don’t forget, we’ll always be by your side no matter what. We gotta look out for each other, right?”

Deuce Spade

The second student she saw while at NRC. Fun fact: when Deuce summoned a cauldron to stop Ace, she legit thought he killed him. She was shocked Ace managed to survive being smacked by something heavy.

He’s now one of Jane’s best friends, next to Ace. They get along whenever they’re around, just two good friends.

He’s willing to help her out when she needs it, regardless if it’s studying or in times of need.

Jane sometimes tease him for the egg incident.

Imagine her surprise when Deuce showed off a bit of his delinquent side and later told her of his past. She never really thought of him to be one at all.

Deuce also knows about everything about Jane’s life back home, starting off with hearing a passing comment from her on how she wishes her own mom was as loving and caring as his.

If Deuce is referring to original Jane, he calls her “Mrs. Jane”

He’s willing to be emotional support whenever she vents about her struggles, he feels like it’s his duty as her friend.

“I promise i’ll be the best friend you ever had! I’ll always be by your side!”

Cater Diamond

For a while, she was unsure things like social media exist in Twisted Wonderland……until she met Cater.

Him being a Magicam pro, knowing all the latest trends, taking selfies, etc. she was absolutely shocked.

From the get-go, Cater liked Jane’s general personality. To him, she’s the kind of person he would totally be besties with.

The two of them would hang out from time to time, and yes he does post the various selfies of the two to Magicam.

Jane loves his up-beat personality, though sometimes she wishes Cater would just slow down on the Magicam posting.

You could say their relationship got a lot stronger once Cater caught wind of Jane’s knowledge of the various trends and social medias of her world.

Oh, he just HAD to know!

Cater did pester Jane to share her knowledge, which she eventually did. She told him some of the trends she remembers, all the social medias, and even bestowed the knowledge of various phrases and memes.

Because of her, Cater would reference some of these things. Like saying “sus”, which makes Jane internally scream.

On her birthday, knowing she had a phone back home but lost it while coming here, he gave her the best gift he could think of; her own phone. She was extremely grateful for that, now she has the means to reach out to everyone.

Cater has two nicknames for her, “Janey” and “Jay-Jay”. She finds “Janey” to be an adorable nickname.

“If you ever need some Magicam advice, just come to me! I’ll show you all the tricks to be Magicam famous!”

Trey Clover

She was surprised how calm and collected he is. A big contrast to the two rowdy boys and the social media pro.

Even more so how he knows a lot about baking, watching his techniques making the tart amazed her.

You could say it was the start of Jane looking up to him as a baking mentor.

Whenever she visits Heartslabyul, if Trey is in the kitchen, she would sometimes peek and watch what he does.

It didn’t take long for him to notice her watching him bake. He asked her if she wants to know how he does it, which she says yes. So Trey showed her how he makes his famous tarts, Jane watching and taking notes on how to do it. He does ask her why she watches him and she explains how she loves to bake but she doesn’t know all the techniques and skills to make certain desserts, only the basic cake making. She wishes she knows all those things so she can master her hobby, and helping him out with that chestnut tart made her hope that he can show her a thing or two about how to bake. Needless to say, he was willing to teach her what he knows.

Trey would give Jane baking lessons, teaching her the various techniques on how to bake certain desserts. These lessons actually helped her improve her baking skills.

You know Trey’s Oyster Sauce joke? Well Jane picked up her own counter joke; cocoa powder as meat seasoning.

Trey: Don’t forget to add oyster sauce to the tart batter!

Jane: Oh didn’t you hear? I heard chefs add cocoa powder for seasoning! It gives a very rich flavor to the meat!

He just laughed. She’s certainly learning from her mentor!

She likes how caring he can be with others, almost parent-like. Trey likes how kind she can be, almost reminds him of his younger sister.

“As long as you work hard, I think you’ll do just fine in this school. I believe in you.”

Riddle Rosehearts

From the beginning, she hated Riddle. He was rude towards her during the opening ceremony; pushing her aside while stopping Grim and saying she should be kicked out as well. This made her very bitter towards him.

She heard about these rules from Ace and Trey, she just thinks it’s stupid to have such rules and believes it’s unnecessary to harshly punish people for not knowing these rules.

The moment Riddle tossed aside the chestnut tart all because of a rule, oh she had ENOUGH with this kid. She outright yelled at him, calling him out for his behavior towards others, and even accusing him of making up these rules just to control people. He. Was. FURIOUS. He yelled back, justifying his actions, claiming she has no right to shame the Queen of Hearts rules. Cater and Trey had to drag Jane, Ace, Deuce, and Grim away once Riddle was red in the face. This anger still lingered when they returned for Ace’s duel.

However, this would all change when Riddle Overblotted.

In the aftermath of the battle, through sheer accident (the blot monster falling over her), she dived into Riddle’s mind/heart. Confronting Riddle, he still has a resentment towards her for yelling at him. Jane now realizes that responding to him in anger would not go anywhere, so she calmly asks him; why? Why are you like this? Why so keen on rules? Riddle tried to dismiss this, even asking her;

Riddle: Why did you belittle me and accused me of making up the Queen of Hearts’ rules?!

Jane: Because I was frustrated at YOU! Any sane person would think these rules are ridiculous and insane!

Jane tries to reach out to Riddle, talk some sense into him, Riddle kept his guard up but it was starting to become clear that there might be something more to this rule obsession. Riddle did eventually let his guard down and began to open up about his past.

He told her about his childhood, how his parents, both well-known magical healers, raised him by controlling every aspect of his life. As Jane hears (and also visually sees) his story, she felt her heart sink to the floor. Now she sees why he’s so strict with rules; because rules are the only thing he’s ever known. Now she just feels terrible yelling at him. Seeing how strict and how controlling his mother was made her furious, how dare she treat her child that way, he’s a living person, not a machine.

After Riddle tells her, with him in tears, Riddle was surprised when Jane straight up hugged him.

She tells him that now she understands why he’s so obsessed with rules and how disappointed and upset she is with how Riddle’s mother treated him. In her eyes, that was not a mother, she didn’t treat her own son as a person, in fact she didn’t even heard her say “I love you” to Riddle.

Her confrontation, the things Jane said and asked, it made Riddle think. Especially looking back at all the times he punished students, realizing they didn’t even know these rules until he harshly punished them. He is no different from how controlling his mother was.

In the end, Jane apologizes for how she was towards him and promises to give him the love he never got from his own mother. Riddle collapses into tears and embraces her.

Imagine everyone’s surprise when the blot disappears, they see Riddle and Jane, who didn’t see eye to eye before, were in a tight embrace. Ace was definitely annoyed how defensive Jane was with Riddle.

From there, their friendship blossomed.

Jane would sometimes visit Heartslabyul to check up on Riddle and maybe help him out. Though he thinks its unnecessary for the Ramshackle Dorm leader to get involved in other dorms, he does appreciate her company.

Overtime, the two of them got to know each other very well. Jane would try to open Riddle’s world view a little bit by introducing him to things he never experienced in his life. In turn, Riddle would try helping her study better and of course make her learn SOME of the Queen of Hearts rules.

Jane kept her promise, their friendship is proof of this. Riddle admires how sweet and kind she is, how Jane would go out of her way just to help him with his dorm leader duties and he’s willing to do the same for her, how open-minded he is to the world his mother shut him away from. He greatly admires her, almost seeing her as...a sister.

The thought alone conflicted Riddle; they’re not related by blood, and yet he feels that kind of sibling love from her. But even so, what would she even say to that? He doubts she ever had anyone see her that way. He’s just…unsure how to approach this.

But one day, Riddle called her sister by accident.

Riddle: See you next time, sister

Jane: See ya la- *blinks* …wait huh??

Riddle: *realizes what he just said and blushes in embarrassment* N-Nothing…!!! *rushes off*

Needless to say, Jane was VERY confused.

The next day, she confronted Riddle about this, wanting to know why he called her sister. Riddle had no choice but to confess, he told her how her kindness, how she did so much for him, led him into seeing her that way. After he confessed, he apologizes if she’s weirded out by this. Jane…was shocked by this, no one in her whole life saw her that way…but she accepted it. If Riddle sees her as his sister, then she will see him as her little brother. And thus their Found Family dynamic began.

Their sibling dynamic is like this; Jane is the fun, cheerful, and loving sister, while Riddle is the stern, hot headed little brother. But they love each other very much.

Jane would sometimes playfully tease Riddle, such as playing around with his top bangs. Eventually Riddle learns how to tease back, portraying it as a sort of payback.

Jane was surprised when she learned she could lift up Riddle and carry him. Of course she would do this to mess with him, but she knows not to do it for too long, otherwise he’ll be pissed. The only times where he’s okay with it is during comforting moments, when he wants to be a little closer to his sister.

He cares deeply about her, just the thought of losing her upsets him. He was an internal mess during The Endless Halloween Night event; constantly worried for her safety, trying so hard to hide his concerns from the others, and seeing the possessed students made him worried that she might be possessed as well.

Jane is the same way, she’s willing to be by Riddle’s side when he needs it most. She’s supportive and loving as any sibling should.

“I’m grateful to have you in my life, Jane. You kept that promise and i appreciate that. I’m...glad to call you my sister...”
