You tried to resist looking over at him, but no matter what, your eyes always seemed to be pulled back to the man across the bar.
His familiar bright smile was plastered on his face as two women were standing unbearably close to him and Slider. They held the straw of their drinks in their toothy grins as they eyed Tom.
You felt your chest clench as annoyance bubbled through you. Forcing yourself to look away again you swallowed, tapping your finger on the bar top.
It had been years now since you and Tom became friends, you even considered him one of your best friends. But, it wasn't long until you ended up falling for him. You knew you shouldn't, you didn't mean to, but it was something you had no control over.
You wish you could control it. That way you could make those feelings go away. Nothing was more painful than unrequited love.
Your eyes once again rose up to lock on him. You felt the familiar uncomfortable clench of your chest as you saw him look at the woman in front of him.
"Hey."
A voice broke you from your thoughts. Looking over, you saw an attractive man standing in a Navy uniform, leaning on the bar he had a big toothy grin as he smiled at you.
"Hello." You greeted, sitting up a little straighter.
"Air Force huh?" He asked as he eyed your uniform.
"How'd you guess?" You asked with a sarcastic tone.
He chuckled as he sat down on the stool beside you. "Lucky guess." He replied.
You felt a flutter in your chest, and spared a look over at Tom. You wanted him to be looking at you, but his eyes were still on the women in front of him.
Pushing the thought aside, you looked back at the man beside you. You may not be able to completely forget how you feel about Tom, but you may be able to move on from it.
As the woman in front of Tom continued to ask him about his job as she obnoxiously chewed on her straw, Tom's eyes scanned the room looking for you. He much preferred talking to you.
When his eyes stopped on you at the bar, he felt his chest tighten as he saw you laugh, leaning forward as you gently pushed the man in front of you playfully.
He had never seen the man before, but he was clearly piquing your interest.
Tom felt his heart start beating a bit heavier in his chest as he watched you. The way you smiled brightly, a smile he often thought he was the only one to see. The way you were turned to face the man fully, told Tom you were truly interested.
Looking back at the man, Tom saw the way his eyes raked over you, and he felt his stomach turn.
Why was he reacting like this? He had never felt this before. Not towards you. Then again, in the years Tom had known you he had almost never seen you go out with someone, or even seen interested, until now.
He knew what the feelings were. Anger, annoyance, jealousy, fear. But why was he feeling it now? What did it mean?
As Slider nudged his arm, he looked back over, trying to force his thoughts to focus on what Slider was saying, but he couldn't seem to get the idea of you and another man off his mind.
--- --- ---
Tom watched you with curiosity and confusion as you ran off to the showers after training the next day. Most of the time you would wait for him, and you two would walk together and talk, but today you never even set eyes on him.
A feeling in his gut told him something was wrong, that maybe he did something, but he couldn't place what that might have been. His impatience only rose as he waited to see you, hoping you could go to the bar together. You could talk about it then.
When he did finally see you, he noted you were dressed up a bit more than usual, and the feeling in his gut only worsened.
"Y/n!" He called out as he saw you walking towards the parking lot.
As you turned at the sound of his voice and smiled, he felt a small amount of relief wash over him.
"You wanna drive to the bar together?" He asked casually, nothing unusual about the request.
Your face changed, and he felt his chest tighten.
"Sorry Ice, I'm not going tonight. I have a date."
Various feelings ran through him as he stared at you. 'Ice'? You haven't called him that in years. It's been Tom and Y/n for ages.
"Date?" He asked, his voice giving away his confusion.
You nodded, a somewhat shy smile on your face. There was something else there, in your eyes, but he focused too much on his on feelings to catch it.
"And I'm running a bit late, so I gotta go. I'll see you later." You smiled and turned to leave, leaving Tom standing alone basking in his own confusion and jealousy.
You had to go quickly, otherwise you'd give in an go with Tom. You couldn't waste another night of watching him flirt with everyone but you.
Tom stood there for a few minutes, watching as you drove off. His chest was tight and his breathing uneven as he tried to fully understand why he was feeling so upset about this.
Before now, he had never fully comprehended that you could start dating someone. That it wouldn't be him who was the closest man to you in your life. He just always assumed it would just be him. But why?
Suddenly it hit him. Because he wanted it to be that way.
He loved the idea of you and him. Sure he hooked up with some people here and there, but he had never been in a relationship. Because, well, because of you.
As he stood there and realization washed over him he felt uneasy on his feet.
It wasn't that he wanted to be your best friend, it's that he wanted to be with you. He just never fully comprehended it until now, until he realized he might be losing you to another guy.
"Hey Ice, you going to the bar?" Wolfman asked as he walked past.
Tom looked over at him and forced a smile "Yeah, yeah I'll be there in a while." He lied.
Tom looked down the road where you had driven off and felt his gut twist. He felt an overwhelming urge to chase after you. If only he knew were you were going. But he didn't. So he would wait.
----
As you pulled back into base, you had a soft smile on your face as you thought about the last couple of hours. Your date had gone surprisingly well, and you got along great.
You liked him. But you knew that wasn't enough. Every time he leaned in closer, flirted, or tried to make a move, an image of Tom would flash in your mind, and you would pull away. He wasn't Tom, he never would be.
Walking towards the barracks, you almost jumped as you saw a silhouette leaning against the wall. It only took a second before you were able to full recognize who it was.
You continued to walk closer "Tom?" You asked with a soft and curious voice.
His head snapped up at the sound of your voice and he quickly stepped away from the wall. "Y/n."
"Is something wrong?" You asked, seeing the almost overwhelmed look on his face.
"No, well- I was just waiting for you."
Your heart skipped a beat as you stopped in front of him, "Why?"
He seemed uncomfortable as he looked around "I wanted to make sure you got back alright."
You chuckled "Okay, thanks dad."
He smiled softly and shook his head "I also wanted to talk to you."
You felt a nervous flutter in your stomach "About what?"
He opened his mouth but hesitated before he cleared his throat "Do you like him? This guy you went out with?"
He knew it was the guy from the bar the other night, it had to be.
"Yeah, I do."
He nodded his head "How much?"
You let out a soft scoff "Why doesn't it matter Tom, what is this?"
He let out a frustrated breath as he rubbed the back of his neck "I just- I don't like it. You, you meet this guy at a bar and talk for what an hour, and your already going out with him?"
So he did see you the other night? Realization hit you, and an odd sense of satisfaction came with it. But why was he acting like this? What did it mean?
"Isn't that how it usually works?" You asked with a bewildered tone. "I mean, haven't you done the same with a dozen women you've met the same way, why am I suddenly wrong for doing it?" Your voice rose with your annoyance.
Your words made Tom realize he was being a hypocrite. He sighed and lifted his hands up "You're right, I'm sorry. I just." He swallowed harshly as he avoided your gaze.
"It's just what, Tom?" Your voice was softer now.
"I don't like the idea of you going out with other guys." He admitted quickly.
You felt the realization of is words hit you like a truck, while also cementing you in place. "You don't like the idea of it?"
"I don't want you to go out with other men." He corrected himself.
"Other men?"
"Men that aren't me, okay?!" He rose his voice a little "Look, I didn't realize it until I saw you with that guy last night, but then tonight you went out with him and it hit me like a ton of bricks that I-" He stopped and met your eyes, and you saw an almost panicked look behind them.
"That you what Tom?" You asked as you stepped closer.
He could see the look in your eyes, reflecting his own sense of desperation.
"That I love you."
You felt your breath catch in your throat, your heartbeat was so heavy you felt it in your head. You felt an overwhelming wave of emotion wash over you. Shock, relief, joy, but the loudest, was anger.
"You've gotta be kidding me." You let out a soft almost scornful laugh.
Tom frowned, as his chest clenched.
"All this time, all this time." You turned and paced for a moment before turning back to face him "For years, all I've ever wanted was for you to see me. All I've wanted was for you to want me. But you never did. And when I finally give it up, and try to move on, now you do?"
Tom realized what you meant and felt guilt wash over him. How long had you waited for him to realize? How long had you ached over him never returning your feelings?
"I'm sorry." He said softly "I'm sorry it took me so long to see it. I mean, even before I realized that I loved you like this, I knew I loved you in some way. And I knew that I wanted to be with you I just didn't realize how."
He took a step closer to you before slowly reaching up and brushing his hand down your arm until he took your hand in his.
"Y/n, it might be selfish, but I cant see myself ever living without you. And I dont want to."
Looking into his eyes, you saw nothing but honesty, and though you were angry with the time wasted, and the truly bad timing, you couldn't help but smile.
"I'll never forgive you for making me wait, you know?"
He smiled as he tugged you closer "I know. And I deserve it."
His eyes flicked down to your lips, and he felt an overwhelming urge to kiss you.
He met your eyes again "And I will make it up to you every day."
"Oh will you?" You asked with a smile.
He nodded and smiled in return "Yeah, I will."
Leaning in swiftly, his lips pressed against yours, catching you by surprise. You felt butterflies erupt in your stomach before sending an electric shiver through your body as you leaned into the kiss.
Even if he did make you wait, it was better late than never.

Phoenix and you entered Penny’s bar when your phone suddenly rang. Taking it out, the nametag on it made your eyes widen. You touched Phoenix on her shoulder, letting her know you needed a moment. She simply smiled, heading further into the bar to the booth were Bob, Coyote and Fanboy already were. The phone kept buzzing as you weren’t sure what to do. Panicking a bit as to say. You knew not picking up, would do nothing as he would just keep calling you.
Answering was even terrible, as you knew he’d say anything to get you to yield. Like a collective caller, kept he calling you. Looking around frantically, you spotted the first person at Penny’s bar. You rushed over to the bar, pulling Hangman back by his shoulder. – “Emergency, you’re my boyfriend.” – you breathed out, holding the phone out to him. Hangman smiled cocky. – “Well, well. If you were desperate for a kiss, you’d just had to ask Y/n.” – Hangman replied all smug to your annoyance.
“No. No! You’re not actually my boyfriend.” – you informed him hastily. Hangman furrowed his brows, frowning. – “Make up your mind girl.” – he let out confused to what was happening. You moved your phone higher up for him to notice. – “I need you to be my boyfriend and make him stop calling me!” – you called out almost frantically at how slow he was catching up.
“Right.” – He simply said, setting a beer down and taking your phone in his hand. He answered the phone, giving you a cheeky eyebrow wiggle. Hangman didn’t even listen to what the other person was saying on the phone. – “Listen bud, stop calling my girlfriend.” – he spoke through. He heard an immediate response. – “Uhm her boyfriend.” – Hangman answered, showing you a goofy look at how obvious it was who he was talking to.
The man kept blabbing in his ear as Hangman had little interest in keeping him on the phone. – “Stop calling us, bye.” – he spoke in such a manufactured voice, he could work in sales and be dealing with a terrible customer but still upholding his work voice. Hangman hung up, giving you the phone back. – “Thank you!” – you let out relieved, bending a bit through your knees out of gratitude. – “So what do I get in return?” – Hangman asked.
“This beer?” – you suggested, placing your hand on the counter by it. Hangman tsked his tongue. – “Already paid for it sunshine.” – he said with a chuckle. – “Fine.” – you breathed out. – “I’ll clean your locker.” – you took out another suggestion as Hangman thought. – “How about wash my clothes?” – he responded. – “Deal.” – you agreed it was just that. Hangman shook hands with you to seal the deal.
He picked up his beer, throwing his arm over your shoulder. – “Who was the dude anyways?” – he asked, leading you to the others. – “My ex.” – you sighed out. Hangman looked half in shock at you. – “I didn’t know you dated someone.” – he called out as you had to shush his loud voice. – “It was like 6 months ago.” – you informed him.
“And he’s still calling you?” – Hangman blurted out as you hummed with a nod as response. – “I can’t shake him off.” – you sighed out nearing the booth with your friends. – “Well good thing your boyfriend saved the day.” – Hangman winked with a ridiculous smile. – “Not my boyfriend.” – you reminded him before sitting down.
Back in the locker room, you were washing Hangman’s attire. Washing them by hand as he called them delicate and needed to be handled with care. – “Uhm what are you doing?” – Phoenix asked seeing you in the locker room as she had walked by. – “Are those Hangman’s clothing?” – she pointed out when you had pulled it up to see if it was clean enough, revealing his nametag. – “Phoenix!” – you called out startled, splashing some water as your arms lowered immediately. – “Why are you washing his clothes?” – she wanted to know. – “I owe it to him.” – you responded, scrubbing his pilot gear.
“You dared to bet with Hangman. Bold.” – she answered impressed. – “It’s not that.” – you told her with a soft sigh. – “He did something for me, so I have to return the favour.” – you explained. – “Right.” – Phoenix widened her eyes briefly in delight. – “If your dad could see you know.” – she chuckled a bit. – “He’d flip that you fell so low.” You grunted soft. – “Good thing my dad.” – you emphasized. – “Can’t see me.” – you replied bitsy. – “Ohh cold touch.” – Phoenix teased touching her own shoulder. You scooped up some water, splashing it at her to wipe that smile off her face.
Phoenix screamed, dodging away when the water came her way. Half laughing, you teasing her with another scoop as she already darted away. When you were finished up with Hangman’s uniforms, you hung them neatly to dry. You came out of the lockers, making your way out of the hangar when you got pulled aside by Rooster. He pushed you firm up against the wall. – “Are you dating Hangman?” – called out at the brink of losing his mind. – “What?” – you responded confused.
“Are you dating him?” – Rooster wanted to know with a stern look. – “What, no, no…” – you replied waving your hands across. Rooster exhaled deep moving his fingers through his hair. – “Who told you this?” – you asked curious. – “Hangman has been bragging to everyone he’s dating you.” – Rooster let you know. Your eyes widened with shock.
You pushed Rooster a bit back, to make some room for you to leave. You needed to find Hangman and you needed to find him now. Jogging out of the hangar into the open. You saw a group of people near the F16’s going over to them. The closer you got, the clearer you saw Hangman amongst them.
“Hangman!” – you shouted drawing his attention. – “Looks like my girlfriend needs me.” – he said to Fanboy and Coyote all smug. Coyote rolled with his eyes as Fanboy shook his head. Hangman turned round to you, welcoming you with a warm smile. – “Yes my love.” – he said as you grabbed him firmly by the arm, dragging him away from the others. – “So eager.” – Hangman whispered to his friends with a chuckle. You came to a stop, letting harshly go of him.
What are you doing?” – you called out giving him a little shove. – “Au.” – Jake mouthed pretending to be hurt from your shove. – “Jake!” – you called out wanting an answer out of him. – “What?” – he replied loud, making himself taller. – “Why are you telling everyone we are dating?” – you freaked out. Jake scoffed loud, turning his head away. – “Are we not?” – he answered cocky, wanting to slip his arm over your shoulder. It made you puff annoyed, crossing your arms.
“Oh come on Y/n, don’t be such a baby about it.” – Jake said taking you by the elbow, wanting you to uncross your arms. – “It’s a joke, sunshine.” – he kept tugging at your arm, trying to be smooth and cool at the same time. – “Sunshine!” – you suddenly heard loud, making you straighten your back. Hangman’s back straightened as well. Cyclone appeared coming to you. – “Iceman wants to speak to you.” – he said firmly, making your shoulders slouch. Jake was snickering quietly at you with a little point. – “He asked for both of you!” – Cyclone made clear, making Jake’s smile drop.
You tugged on his elbow, pulling him with you. Following Cyclone inside and up the stairs to Iceman’s desk. Cyclone knocked on the door, before popping his head inside. – “They are present.” – he said to Iceman. Cyclone stepped aside, expression flat as he allowed you to walk in. – “Tell me, am I hanging?” – Jake whispered to Cyclone wanting to know his outcome. Cyclone ignored him, giving him an extra shove into the room. – “Dad!” – you said with mixed expectations, opening your arms to a hug.
Iceman got up from behind his desk, coming to hug you. – “How is my little girl?” – he asked. – “Flying and thriving.” – you told him, making him form a smile on his lips. His gaze then shifted to Jake, who swallowed nervously. Iceman got all serious. He went to sit again, gesturing for you to sit as well. Jake and you sat down, unsure what to expect. – “So you are the one dating my daughter.” – Iceman spoke. – “Dad no…” – you blurted out, waving your hands across.
Iceman observed Hangman closely as it made him move uncomfortable in the chair. – “How’s his flying?” – he asked. – “Superb… sir.” – Jake replied loudly, humbling himself immediately. Iceman glanced your way. You could only smile sheepishly at him. – “I’m a bit saddened you didn’t tell me Y/n.” – Iceman began. – “But he looks decent enough. As long as he doesn’t hurt you… or else…” – Iceman gave Hangman his death stare.
Jake swallowed again. – “Dad we’re not…” – you began wanting to explain as Jake grabbed your hand out of the blue. – “No, no sunshine, it’s okay. He knows now.” – Jake spoke upholding the image of dating. You stared confused at him, why he would even want to go on with his stupid joke. – “Jake, this is my dad.” – you said between clenched teeth to him. Making it clear that he didn’t need to mess around. – “I’m so happy for you Y/n.” – Iceman said cheery.
“The man’s happy Y/n, let him be.” – Jake said to guilt trip you. You sighed soft letting yourself fall back in the chair. Jake got up. – “Well it was nice of you to call us in, sir.” – Jake said, nudging you to get up as well. Your dad chuckled happily at his manners as you could only roll your eyes. Jake extended his hand out to Iceman. Iceman took it to shake. – “I’m not one for favours, but if you ever need one for my daughter.” – he whispered to Jake with a wink.
Jake breathed out a laugh of surprise, glancing your way. Just to rub his it more in your face. – “Now we must really go.” – Hangman spoke tapping your elbow, to get you to follow. – “Give her a kiss.” – Iceman replied. Jake’s expression dropped. – “S’cuse me?” – he blurted out. – “Give her a kiss.” – he repeated gesturing at you.
Jake looked sheepishly at you, chuckling nervously. – “Sir truly…” – Jake began wanting to talk his way out of it. – “I want to see just how much you care for my daughter.” – Iceman persisted. Hangman took your hand, pulling you closer to give a kiss on the cheek. – “Give her a real kiss!” – Iceman shouted out of good sports. Jake sighed loud with a soft drop of his gaze. You raised your eyebrow at him, curious to see what he would do. He took you by the elbow, pulling you even closer.
“Just a quick one.” – he whispered to you. – “One second.” – you responded. Hangman held his finger up to his lips, looking all smug. He lowered his finger, giving you a quick nod before he’d kiss you. Your lips touched for a split second, pulling away quick. Iceman shook his head with disappointment. – “We have to go dad!” – you called out, opening the door. Dragging Jake with you out of his office. Downstairs, you let go of Jake.
“Your joke just escalated Hangman. Now my dad knows!” – you called out panicking. – “Hey you asked me to be your boyfriend.” – Jake replied loud. – “For like a few seconds.” – you shouted back. – “You asked for this Y/n.” -  Jake answered loud taking off. – “Where are you going?” – you called out to him. Jake turned around, pulling his shoulders up. It made you groan loud.
Phoenix and you were stretching before exercise. – “Boyfriend coming over.” – she pointed out, turning her torso, holding her arm by her elbow. You looked up seeing Hangman come over with the other boys. It made you look at her with a certain glance. Phoenix stopped, walking off when Hangman came near. She joined the others behind him. – “You know for a sunshine, you frown a lot.” – he pointed out, touching your forehead.
You slapped his hand away. He grabbed you by the shoulders, moving his head closer to you. – “Smile, your dad is going to watch.” – he whispered making you widen your eyes. Jake moved aside from you, throwing his arm over you as he led you to the others. Maverick, Cyclone and Iceman neared. You all followed Maverick to the beach for a match of rugby. A good team exercise Maverick would call it. Cyclone and Iceman sat down, watching the pathetic play of rugby.
Hangman and you were on opposite teams. Fanboy had the ball, throwing it at Coyote. Hangman jumped in front of him, catching the football before his eyes. He then ran with it to your side, throwing his hard on the ground. He called it out in victory, pointing towards Iceman. Iceman clapped for Hangman’s score. He then looked all smug at you. Phoenix nudged you as you rolled your eyes at him. Trying not to find it sweet. Rooster caught the ball wanting to throw it at you. You caught it, wanting to run when you got picked up from the ground.
Hangman had picked you up, making you squeal loud out of surprise. Your feet hit the ground again, as he kept his arms around you. – “Try getting out of this now, sunshine.” – he breathed out. You wriggled in his grip for freedom. When you weren’t getting any, you tried running. Hangman laughed loud, squeezing his arms tighter around you. – “Where are you going sunshine?” – he laughed out. You tried so hard not to laugh as well, not to enjoy it too, but you failed.
You stopped trying to run, laughing loud. You tossed the football over to Bob. You showed him your empty hands, showing him his attempt to stop you failed. Hangman picked you up in response, making you squeal again. He then pressed a kiss on your cheek so quick, he barely caught himself doing it. You turned round in his embrace, staring a bit at him. Jake stared back at you.
Swallowing, he let go of you, scratching his neck sheepishly. You looked blissful away. The two of you hesitantly got back into the game, questioning whether you were actually starting to like each other or that it was the drive of fake dating for a while now.
After practise, you were all exhausted. Having been playing till the sun had set. Worn out, you all decided to grab a few drinks at Penny’s bar. You went up to her bar as Jake followed. Almost instinctively. You held four fingers up to Penny, ordering beer. Jake leaned with his elbows on the counter, throwing you a smug smile. Your phone vibrated in your pocket. Confused, you pulled it out holding it to the front. Jake’s eye fell on the caller, taking the phone from your hand before you could react.
He picked up, turning around to lean against the counter with his back. – “What do you want?” – he said bothered. Your ex didn’t even have to finish his sentence when Jake spoke again. – “Listen asshole, if you call her one more time. I’ll make sure you’ll never see daylight again. You won’t see me coming. I’ll fly above your house, aiming for your pathetic bedroom and you’ll be burned to crisps in a matter of seconds.” – Jake threatened making you stare in shock at him.
“She doesn’t want you cause I’m her boyfriend. She’s mine and let me tell you ass, I don’t like sharing.” – Jake said over the phone. – “This was your last call or you’re dead!” – he angrily hung up the phone. – “Thank… thank you…” – you said astonished by how hot that was. Jake tugged your phone in his pocket.
Penny arrived with the drinks as he took them, motioning with his head for you to follow. You slid into a booth with him as the others were waiting. Hangman threw an arm over your shoulder, pushing you closer to him. It made you feel like squealing. The lines of pretend and real blurring away. Jake caught you staring at him, melting as he saw you smile like the sun back at him. He moved his head closer to you, wanting to kiss you in that moment, but caught himself just in time.
He shifted his head to the side, kissing your cheek instead. It didn’t feel satisfying, but he wouldn’t dare himself to kiss you out of the blue with everyone around. Your friends were so used to the two of you dating, they hardly had any eye for it. Not clear it was all an act, started from a joke. After an hour or two, checked Jake his watch. – “I’m taking Y/n home.” – he said removing his arm from you. He got out of the booth, taking you with him.
You said goodbye to the others. Jake grabbed your hand, walking out of Penny’s bar with you. Outside he was still holding your hand as it made you snicker soft. – “No one’s watching Hangman.” – you told him. Hangman looked at you with eyes full of affection. – “I know.” – he responded, pausing you. – “Are we still faking it?” – he asked catching you by surprise. Unsure, you pulled your shoulders up. That seemed to answer Hangman enough as he cupped your cheeks, kissing your lips.
The kiss was long, anticipating the moment till he could finally kiss you. His tender kiss moved to longing and desperation as his hands grabbed you tightly. You kissed him back, fully surrendering under his spell. The lines of fake dating having been shattered long ago.

Dating headcanons — Tom "Iceman" Kazansky
Pairing: Tom "Iceman" Kazansky x reader
Warnings: mentions of jealousy and PDA.
a/n: I actually have two requests for this, so thank you to both anons!
Tumblr media
If you’re within arms reach, he’s touching you. If you’re not, he’s leaving whatever he was doing to find you.
Will, at minimum, have his arm over your shoulders.
If you walk up beside him, he’s pulling you down onto his lap.
Which will most likely turn into him tickling you
He also has a habit of picking you up and carrying you away at any time with zero warning.
Movie dates!!
Always lets you have the first pick when choosing what to watch.
If you let him choose, he’ll pick something that he knows will scare you (just a little) so you’ll bury your head in his chest.
He has a deep interest in all of your hobbies, collections, likes, dislikes, etc, and is overjoyed if you do the same for him.
Writes you countless letters when he's deployed.
Each letter is undeniably Iceman in style. Highly detailed and full of wild stories and sarcastic quips.
He’s a romantic at heart and shows his love with a variety of small and grand gestures.
He even set up a weekly delivery of your favorite flowers from the local florist.
Tom is 100% down for PDA. Especially around fellow aviators.
He knows all too well how they can get, and what better way is there to show them that you are strictly off limits?
Tom absolutely loses it when you wear his clothes around him And if you borrow his aviator glasses? He’s proposing on the spot
He isn’t jealous, but he is protective.
He’s completely secure in himself and your relationship, but he does worry about other people respecting you.
If you’re still in school, he automatically becomes your study buddy.
Whether you need a sounding board for your ideas/presentations, help to prepare for a test, or just want some company while you study, he’s there for you.
He’s so attentive and often anticipates your needs before you do.
Tom is the type of boyfriend who will take you shopping and will carry all your bags.
He insists on paying for everything.
There's no spending limit, as long as you model everything you want for him.

Soothing Touch
Requested: yes
Summary: When Ice returns from a long day at work, you’re there to help melt all his stress away.
Word count: 0.6k
Warnings: none
Pairings: Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky x fem!reader
Tumblr media
A long, drawn-out sigh escaped Ice as he stepped into your shared home. Maverick was such a pain in the ass. The entire day had been filled with Ice and Slider having to deal with Maverick and Goose’s shenanigans. Those two were little devils; Ice was convinced. Now, all he needed was to spend the evening curled up with the love of his life.
You head the front door close softly. What shocked you was that you didn’t hear anything from your boyfriend. Usually, he would call out to you, a newfound happiness in his voice now that he got to come home to you. Today, however, Tom never spoke a word as he stepped into your home. “Honey?” You called softly as you stepped out of the kitchen.
After a few seconds, you found him stepping out of the front entry, shoulders sagging and a soft frown on his face. The sight made your heart clench. “Tommy?” His head snapped up, eyes tired as he offered you a smile. You gave him a sympathetic smile in return, opening your arms wide as he walked toward you.
He collapsed into your arms, making you grunt slightly as you adjusted to support his weight. “Wanna talk about it?” You whispered into his shoulder as your hand ran up and down his back softly. He only shook his head. You could have guessed what was bothering him. It had been the same thing for the past week and a half. Maverick.
Wordlessly, you lead him to the couch. You sat down before pulling him on top of you. Your boyfriend barely put up a fight as he rested his head on your chest. His long body filled the entire couch, so much so that his legs hung over the edge slightly. His arms wound around your waist as he tucked his head into your neck.
You could feel his eyelashes flutter against the soft skin of your neck as he closed his eyes. The stress of the day rolled off him in waves as your hand moved p and down his back. “Is there anything else I can do for you, Tommy?” You whisper softly into his ear.
A beat of silence passed as your fingers drew delicate patterns over his shirt. He sucked in a soft breath, contemplating his response. But you soon realized that Ice wasn’t going to say anything. The pilot simply grabbed your hand and placed it on the top of his head, wordlessly communicating what he wanted.
There was a soft smile on your face as you began carding your fingers through his hair. For as perfectly styled as it was, there was a surprisingly little amount of gel. Your fingers moved slowly and gently through your boyfriend's hair, fingertips gently scratching at his scalp.
You could feel him melt into you at your soft touch. The feeling of your fingertips running across his scalp had him nearly moaning at the sensation.
This was how you remained for the next twenty minutes Eventually, Tom's breathing evened out and he was snoring softly. You smiled softly at the sound. After such a long day, you were glad that you were able to help him relax. Plus, you would never turn down an opportunity to play with your boyfriend’s hair.
Your fingers kept moving carefully through his hair, your other hand holding the back of his neck as he slept soundly. By now, you were simply running your hand gently across the top of his head, almost as if you were petting his head.
Your hand eventually slowed until it was just resting on his head. As your eyes slipped shut, you could feel his arms tighten around you and nuzzle further into your chest. Your thumb stroked softly over the back of his neck as you allowed sleep to finally pull you under.

First day of school
Summary: time for the first day of kindergarten for your little girl.
Top Gun Taglist: @bisexual-watermelons (open)
Taglist: @avada-kedavra-bitch-187, @nyx2021, @thestarspangledcaptain, @kmc1989 (open for every fandom)
Tumblr media
It was a quiet morning, at least for now. First day of school had arrived and suddenly your little girl was going to kindergarten. She was still asleep as you went to wake her up, her blond hair sticking out in different directions, and you could hear soft snores filling up the room.
“Sarah, sweetheart, it’s time to wake up.”, you whisper softly, hearing her grunt in disagreement as you brush your fingers through her hair to try and wake her up.
“Already?”, she whispers, her eyes fluttering open before closing them again.
“It is time to wake up.”, you tell her and after a moment she manages to wake up a bit more.
“Ready for your first day?”, you ask her, and a nervous smile appears at your words.
“I think so.”, a reassuring smile appears at her words, and you quickly bring her in your arms for a hug.
“Now common, your dad is making pancakes for your first day.”, a bright smile appears at the words, and she nearly stumbles out of bed making you laugh.
The two of you had chosen an outfit the day before and she quickly put it on under your watchful eye. She lets you brush her hair before she decides that she wants to braid it, just like her friend Mathilda was going to wear it.
“And there we go, all ready.”, you tell her, and a smile appear on her lips as she looks at herself in the mirror.
“Now pancakes.”, she says with unhidden excitement.
“Let’s go before they get cold.”, you tell her, and she shrieks as you try to tickle her before running towards the stairs.
“No running in the stairs.”, you yell, and you hear her agree before hearing her quick footsteps down the stairs and following behind her.
“There is my little girl.”, you hear Jake say as he hears the both of you coming down, Sarah jumping into her father’s arms, letting out a delighted laugh as he spins her around.
“Daddy, stop or I won’t be able to eat.”, she whines but you can hear the smile in her voice as Jake puts her down but before he does, he kisses her on the cheek.
“Slept well?”, he asks her, and he quickly gets a nod before she starts eating her pancakes.
“There is my beautiful wife.”, you hear while preparing both of your coffees, feeling strong arms around your waist and a soft kiss against your neck.
“Hello to you too handsome.”, you whisper back before turning around and kissing him softly on the mouth, enjoying the taste of chocolate, from the chocolate chips he always ‘sneaked’ into Sarah’s pancakes.
The three of you enjoy the pancakes, and for a moment you completely forget what was going to happen later that day until Jake claps his hands together.
“Alright little bug let’s brush our teeth’s and then we are ready to go.”, Jake says with a bright smile, but you can see that it is a bit forced, it was hard for him to watch his little girl grow up.
You watch the two of them go upstairs before starting on cleaning up the kitchen, because as much as his pancakes were good, your husband always made a mess.
“Do we have everything?”, you ask Sarah as sha comes down, her backpack on her back and she nods seriously.
“Let’s go over the list one more time.”, you tell her and the three of you start going over everything she will need.
“And at three o’clock grandpa Ice and Grandpa Mav are picking me up and then you are coming over for dinner.”, she says, like she has learned it over and over again, but an excited smile can be seen, she loved going to her grandfathers.
“Well, everything looks good, let’s get this show on the road.”, you tell her, and Jake takes her in his arms to bring her to the car and get her in her seat.
You can see that Jake is getting more and more nervous by the second and you can’t help but feel the same thing, a sense of dread appearing as you see the school. The hallways are filled with parents and children running everywhere and before you know it you are at her classroom.
“Hi, miss Rachel.”, you hear your daughter say while you quickly take Jake’s hand in yours, squeezing it in reassurance.
“Hi Sarah, ready for the first day?”, your daughter nods, looking shy and you can’t help but smile. Her teacher looks at you with an understanding smile and you know that it is time, getting on your knees to be able to talk to her better.
“Sarah, be good in class and don’t have too much fun.”, you say trying not to let the tears fall at the sight of your little girl already so grown up.
“Listen to miss Rachel and if there is anything you ask for us and we will be right there.”, Jake promises and Sarah nods quickly before throwing her small arms around the both of you.
“Love you mommy, love you daddy.”, you try and blink away the tears as you murmur it back and you hear Jake do the same thing before she lets go of the both of you.
A determinate look comes on as she looks at the classroom and you can see how much she looks like her father. She takes a deep breath before turning around and marching into the classroom with her head held high.
“She looks so much like you.”, you can’t help but whisper and you hear Jake choke on a sob.
“I need to get out of here before these five-year-old see me cry.”
“Couldn’t agree more.”, you say as the two of you rush to your car and starting to cry together.
Just as you get your breath back you hear the radio switch the music to ‘Slipping through my fingers’ from ABBA and you feel the tears well up again.
“Cut the music.”, you tell him, and Jake quickly nods in agreement before silencing the radio.
“I didn’t think I would be crying this much.”, Jake says, and you can’t help but laugh.
“This is much harder than I thought.”, you say and the two of you start laughing before looking at each other with soft smiles.
“Do you think she is having fun?”, he asks, and you smile at the words before looking back at the school.
“I think she is having the time of her life.”, you tell him, and Jake has a soft smile as he looks at you.
The day is long, far too long as you try not to think of how her day is going. The phone doesn’t ring, and you try not to think of the worst-case scenarios. At five pm Jake and you are practically running towards your car to get to your father’s house.
You don’t even have time to fully get out of the car before Sarah is running towards you, with a bright smile.
“Mommy!! Daddy!”, you quickly take her in your arms, holding her tightly in your arms as you let out a breath of relief, she is fine.
Sarah quickly leaves your arms before getting into her father’s arms, Jake looks more relaxed as he holds her.
“It was hell, huh?”, you hear your father say and you can’t help but sigh.
“It really was.”, a soft smile appears before he brings you into a side hug while you listen to Sarah talking about everything that happened.
“Wait till she goes to college.”, Ice teases gently and you hit him in the ribs before the two of you start to laugh.
You luckily had some time before that happened.

Ice felt like the weight of the world was on his shoulders.
He knew what he did. He knew that he should’ve gotten out of there when Maverick told him. He knew that he didn’t have that shot lined up, but there was just something about Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell that got into his head and made him act reckless. And because of that, Iceman had to hold you up from crashing to the ground as you got the phone call from Carole that your brother was dead.
Ice knew that the two of you had an unbreakable bond. Your mother had passed when she gave birth to you, and your dad was in no shape to take care of you. So, it all fell onto Goose, who was just eight years old at the time. I’ve had always wished to have the type of brother-sister bond that you and Goose had. I’ve hated his siblings and wanted nothing to do with them.
Ice knew the moment that he watched Goose’s early ejection that he gone, but he didn’t have the heart to tell you. He wasn’t even sure if it would’ve been easier to hear it from him or not. Your knees had gone weak and sobs racked your body as you begged Carole to tell you that it wasn’t true. That somehow, someway the Navy had gotten it wrong. That they called and told the wrong Carole Bradshaw that the wrong Nicholas ‘Goose’ Bradshaw was dead.
When Ice decided he had enough of you sobbing uncontrollably on the kitchen he floor, he walked over to you, and gently put a hand on your shoulder.
“Baby, you need to breathe,” Ice said, as he gently pulled the receiver from your hand. Carole had long since hung up and the dial tone “C’mon, let’s get you to bed.”
He picked you up like you were nothing, carrying you with ease to your shared bed room for the time being. He changed you out of the clothes you were wearing, and slid on one of his Navy PT shirts, that was more of a dress than a shirt on you. He held you tightly against his chest, feeling the wetness from your eyes hit his skin. Ice ran circles up your back until the sobs faded to quiet whimpers.
--- --- ---
“They said it was quick.” Carole’s voice was barely above a whisper as you sat next to her in the day room of the barracks.
It hadn't even been twenty-four hours yet, and she had invited you to come with her to gather Goose's things. Carole wasn't sure that she could keep up a brave face in front of Bradley by herself, but you weren't sure if you were going to be much help either. It had only been about three hours since you had your last cry sesh, and you were feeling that all too familiar burning sensation in your chest again.
"I guess that's good," You muttered, looking over at Bradley who was flipping through the pages of some magazine which you weren't all too sure wasn't a Playboy.
"He was gone before he hit the water," Carole scoffed, "You know he always had a fear of the ocean ever since that trip to-"
"I know."
You didn't mean to cut Carole off, but you couldn't sit here and tell happy stories while your brother's best friend was collecting all of his things to give to his widow.
Hell, it didn't even feel right to call Carole a widow. The woman had barely turned 30.
It was silent for a moment, before Carole spoke up, "How was Ice last night?"
The sound of your boyfriend's callsign from her lips caught your attention, as you looked up from Bradley.
"Why do you ask?"
"He was in the air with Mav and Goose when. . . when it happened."
Now this was news to you.
But then you realized, you hadn't even bothered to see how this was affecting your boyfriend. Goose was the one who introduced the two of you back when he was at the academy. He tried doing the whole "older brother, stay away from my little sister" bit, but it was no use against Tom Kazansky's killer smile and your soft baby cow like brown eyes. Tom "Iceman" Kazansky was smitten from the moment he laid eyes on you and it had been history ever since.
"Did he say something to you?" You quietly asked Carole.
"I. . ." Carole started, and then sighed, "Maverick said something when he came and saw us. He said it was a mistake, that it was a stupid error. That he should've known-"
It was as if he knew they were discussing him, Iceman pulled the door to the day room open, standing in the doorway. He was dressed in his service khakis, ribbon rack and gold plating all perfectly shined. But you weren't looking at his perfectly done dress uniform, no, you were looking at the sad look in his baby blue eyes.
"Tom," Carole greeted, standing up from her chair. If there was one thing about Carole Bradshaw, it was that she was a hugger. It didn't matter if she was literally going through hell, she was going to hug you either way.
"Hi Carole," Ice greeted the woman, giving her a quick squeeze, before releasing her, "You guys been here long?" He was looking right at you, but you weren't sure what to even say to him. It had been a game of Tom Talks and you just look at him for the past couple days.
Carole looked between the two of you, before clearing her throat, "No, not long. Maverick is just gathering Goose's things," She turned to look at Ice again, "You should wait with us," She said softly to him.
Iceman nodded and walked over to where you were sitting with Bradley. The little boy smiled and reached for the man he considered another uncle. Usually, the sight of Iceman and Bradley made your heart do jumping jacks, but right now, it was as if a boa constrictor had found its way around it.
The four of you waited in painful silence, you staring at the silent movie playing on TV, until the door opened again, and Maverick stepped inside. Carole had managed to keep her tears at bay until she saw her husband's best friend.
Maverick, for lack of better words, looked like utter hell. His green eyes were full of sadness and guilt. He looked as though he hadn't slept a wink in days, and was about to collapse on the spot. In his hand, he held a simple copy paper box that had been filled with the rest of Goose's stuff. A Naval Officer had come by the day before and took all the things that rightfully belonged to the Department of the Navy.
"God, he loved flying with you, Maverick," Carole said, her voice cracking. You and Ice stood up, as Carole got out of her chair to greet him. She wrapped her arms around him, giving him a tight hug. You couldn't help the pang in your chest as he handed Carole the box.
"But he would've done it anyway... without you," Carole sighed, "He'd have hated it, but he would've done it." Maverick nodded. Carole gave him one more hug and a kiss on the cheek, before turning around and holding her hand out to Bradley, who ran to his mother in an instant. Her blues eyes looked up at you, and she gave you a sad smile, "We'll wait for you."
All you could do was nod. Leave it to Carole Bradshaw to know that you needed the truth more than anyone in this room. Once the door was shut and Carole was out of earshot, you looked at the two men standing in the room.
"What happened?" You asked.
"Baby, I already told-"
"No," You cut Tom off, and looked over at Maverick, "What happened?"
The brunette man gulped, looking quickly at Ice, before looking at you, "Ice was trying to take a shot on a boogey, but he was taking too long to get missile lock on it. I had the perfect shot lined up, but Ice needed to move out. I kept telling him to take the shot or move, but he wouldn't. And when he finally did, it was too late. We were in his jet wash. I lost control, went into a flat spin. . ." Maverick shook his head and looked at his shoes, "The ejection failed. Goose hit his head on the canopy. Killed him instantly."
Your brown eyes were filled with tears as you turned to look at Tom, whose jaw was clenched tightly, his eyes filled with regret and guilt.
"It was an accident-"
"If that's what you choose to believe," Maverick spat, "I think you were trying to teach me something and you got my best friend killed."
"I had the shot!"
"No you didn't!"
"Maybe, if you hadn't been flying so god damn close and not trying to swoop in and-"
"Oh piss off, Kazansky, you've been waiting for your moment to-
"Enough!" You yelled. Both men looked at you shocked that you had raised your voice. Compared to Goose, you were always the quiet one, sticking to stay in the corner while Goose liked to bet he center of attention.
"Baby, let's go-" Tom reached out to you, but you pushed away from him, "Y/N. . ."
You couldn't say it out loud, you were afraid of your heart would break in your chest. Instead, you shook your head and turned to Maverick.
"Take me home?"
The brown haired pilot nodded, putting his arm around your shoulders and ushered you out of the room.
Ice couldn't help the burning sensation of tears that welled up in his throat. He had heard the whispers of his fellow classmates for the past couple days. He knew what they were thinking, but to hear it said out loud, in front of the one person he didn't want knowing about what had happened that fateful day in the air, broke him. Tom knew he was already branded as ice cold, and now he was sure that he would never escape it.
Ice stood in the silent room for a moment, before turning on his heel and going back to work.

hi! can i request iceman x fem!reader where they’re on their first date and reader can’t get enough of how fine he looks and how good he smells, pls?
Dancing is the last thing you thought you'd be doing on your first date with Tom. Drinking, sure. Kissing, you could dare to dream. Sitting down at a fancy restaurant, maybe. And to his credit, you did enjoy a nice dining experience, but he'd led you into a little club afterwards. It isn't a bar, there's no reeling drunkards passed out on the dance floor. No, it's more sophisticated than that, a live band playing in the corner while couples dance together.
The music that's playing now is reminiscent of swing, and Tom is surprisingly good at the style of dance to go with it. You're taking his lead, letting him step and push and pull and twirl, all with that dazzling smile on his face.
"You're wonderful at dancing!" You marvel as he hooks a hand around your waist, pulling it flush to his own. It means you get a nose-full of his cologne, sharp and musky and something you want on your bedsheets.
"It's hard not to be when you're so wonderful to dance with," He croons, practically purring inches away from your face. His smile is almost more intoxicating than his scent, and you're lucky your knees don't give out. What your face does isn't much help, though, as it blooms into a grin so bashful that you have to duck your head to hide it from him.
"Hey," He chuckles, using his grip on your waist to maneuver you towards the side of the room, dancing coming to a halt, "That's not fair, I want to see your face."
He hooks a finger under your chin and lifts it so that his nose nearly brushes yours. You're even more sheepish now as he hums, "What is it, angel?"
"I don't know," You shrug, biting your bottom lip, "it's just- Well," You gush, "I'm having a really great time. And you're- you must be the most handsome man I've ever gone out with."
He laughs at the admission, a deep, sweet sound from his chest. You should probably feel embarrassed admitting it, but not enough to deny him the compliment, and you press on in case his grin will get any wider.
"And you smell amazing," You laugh, "letting him pull your waist closer to his, "I'm just impressed, that's all."
"Yeah? Well that's good," He muses, "'Cause you know I used this cologne to impress you. I was hoping," He bows his own head now, laughing towards his chest, "That maybe you'd put your head on my shoulder."
Your cheeks get hotter, if possible, as he continues, "Like this."
He smooths his hand up from your chin to your cheek, guiding your head to lay against his chest. It puts your nose in his collarbones and he feels your breath over his shirt. The music works with you, transitioning into a slower paced song that the dancers mirror. All of a sudden you're back on the floor, swaying in time with your head on his chest and his arms around your waist.
"So it worked?" He murmurs, carefully avoiding standing on your toes even though you're only inches apart.
"It worked," You press a quick kiss to the collar of his shirt and he feels it beneath the fabric, "I think I want to stay here forever, Tom."

Day 8 of Kinktober: Taking Polaroids with Iceman
pairing: tom ‘iceman’ kazansky x fem!reader
warning: doing pornography, unprotected sex
Tumblr media
Y/N’s POV
Tom got a polaroid camera a couple days ago and he’s been wanting to take pictures of us. One night he wanted to take pictures of me.
“Why can’t we do this tomorrow?” I sigh.
“Because I want the pictures in advance.” He says setting the camera on his nightstand.
“When are you going to the Navel Base?” I ask.
“In 2 weeks Y/N/N. You remember right?” He said.
I forgot all about that. Tom really didn’t remind me about the Navel Base since he told me at first.
“I forgot Tom, I’m sorry.” I said crest his right cheek.
“You’re alright, so about those pictures.” He says getting out of the bed to get the camera.
I watch him get the camera, I don’t know what to do.
“What do you want me to do?” I sit up to face him.
“Anything you want to do.” Tom says.
Tom checks the camera to make sure it’s okay to use the camera.
“You ready?” He says getting on the bed.
“I hope Tom.” I say nervously.
“Don’t get nervous, it’s just me honey.” He says to me.
I take a deep breath, I don’t know why I’m getting nervous.
I take my clothes off including my bra and panties. Tom makes me lay down and tells me to put one of my arms on my head. He sits almost next to me and takes the picture. When it got developed he shows me the picture, I look surprisingly good.
He makes me get on my side and lay down so he can see my whole body. I got more comfortable with him taking the pictures and I made some poses up like, showing off my breasts and showing off my cunt to him. One picture he took of me spreading my legs to show off my perfect body he says, even though I always thought I look terrible.
I get up from a pose and try to get the camera out of his hands but I hear the noise that the picture was taken.
“What’re doing?” Tom asked.
“Can I take pictures of you now? I would like some of you naked.” I say to him.
“Y/N/N-“
“Please?” I pout.
“Fine, you know how to check that there’s more film in it?” He asked.
“Not really Tom.” I said.
Tom gives me some film and shows me on what to do and when I figured it out, I made Tom go on the bed and I straddle him. I told him to do something and he hides his face. I took a picture of him like that and made him do something else. Making him look like he was touching himself. He grabs the camera out of my hand and took a picture of me looking at him with my nipples showing.
After those pictures he wanted me in lingerie so I wore the lingerie that makes him go crazy. He made me go to the mirror and pose in front of it. After that photo, he approaches me and attacks my neck with kisses and hickeys, I lift my right hand to tug on his hair, made my head lay back so it can be on his left shoulder and I moan. He unzips the lingerie, I look at him in the mirror.
“I think we need to do something than taking pictures.” Tom whispers in my ear.
“And what’s that babe?” I look up at him.
“Remember our promise?” He said setting his nose on my cheek.
I try to think, “What’s our promise?” I say.
“Before I leave for the Navel Base, we promised that we can finally make love without protection.” He said.
“But what if something bad happens?” I ask.
“We’re doing it without protection, anything could happen.” He makes us do nose to nose.
I love this man with all my heart, of course I would love to have a baby with him but I’m afraid that he won’t come back to see him or her.
“Make love to me soldier.” I stand in front of him.
He picks me up to set me on our dresser and gets my lingerie off my body and I help him. When he got it off he grabs me to set me on our bed and then he takes us to our pillows to lay me on them. He kisses my neck and I moan. He positions himself to make love to me, he goes slowly first, I moan. I can feel his groans on my skin. I follow his lead and gasp as he goes a little faster. Tom gives me more love bites on the parts of my body he didn’t give me, I wrap my legs around his waist and then he fucks me.
“Oh god. Tom, go faster.” I moan.
He goes faster. I can feel his cum inside me.
“Tom, I need to cum.” I whimper.
“Then do it baby, no one’s going to stop you.” He whispers in my still fucking me.
I came, I scratched his back that made him groan into my chest.
When we stopped, all you can hear is heavy breathing, I’m going to miss him so much and his fucking me all day, I want him to fuck again but we’re both too tired to do it.
“That felt different Tom.” I said looking down at him.
“It felt good didn’t it?” He smirks.
I just giggle.
“I’m going to miss you Tom.” I said.
“I’m going to miss you too princess.” He says.
“Are you still going by Iceman like you did in flight school?” I ask him making him look at me.
“Mm-hmm, I rather heard that while we were having our fuck session.” He whispers in my ear.
I giggle again. No man has ever made me feel so special in my life.
“When you come back from the Navel Base, I can call you that.” I touch his arm.
“What if we have a baby?”
“Depends on when you’re coming back sweetheart.” I whisper softly in his ear.
“We’ll just have to be quiet or just did what we just did Y/N/N.” He makes me get closer to him.
“What’re going to do with those polaroids?” I look at the amount he has on his nightstand.
“Taking them with me so I can maybe play with myself to them.” He says looking at them as well.
“Tom!” I playfully slap his bicep.
“It’s true.” He smirks.
“I’m going to miss you Iceman.” I say.
“I’m going to miss you too honey.” He says.

"only bought this dress so you could take it off"
Tumblr media
Song: Dress by Taylor Swift
Pairing: bob floyd x reader (afab)
Warning(s): Allusions to smut (not written) & Aftercare
Word Count: 1,913
Summary: Y/N had just moved to Miramar and was invited to the Navy Ball in San Diego by her roommate. Soon when the both of them arrived, Y/N was met with a face she hasn't seen in a long time.
Backing away from the full length mirror, I admired the dress I picked out a few days ago. The muted gold beaded dress hugged my waist in all the right ways. With it being off the shoulder and a sweetheart neckline, it showed the right amount of chest without it being too scandalous.
“Wow, you look amazing.” I looked over to see my roommate, Natasha, entering my room.
“Are you sure? I mean is this appropriate for a naval ball?” I turned to face her.
“Yes, all heads will turn to you when you enter the ballroom,” she reassured me. “Who knows? Maybe a navy man will approach you and you end up going on a date with him, but if it’s Hangman, straight up reject him.”
I laughed at what she said. “Nat, I just moved here two weeks ago, I’m not looking for a relationship yet.”
Ever since I moved to San Diego two weeks ago, I’ve been more focused on my teaching job. I work at the local high school near a navy base as a science teacher. I was hired when the school year already started so I've been catching my students up since the substitute teacher they had barely got them learning.
“Well, the Lyft is almost here, you should finish getting ready,” she told me before leaving my room.
Slipping on a pair of gold heels, I grabbed my clutch and double checked the inside to see if I had all of the things I needed. Closing it, I walked out of my room and walked out of the house with Natasha after she locked the front door. Getting into the car, our driver started to drive us to the US Grant hotel.
“Hey, everything is going to be fine,” Natasha squeezed my hand. “All of the Dagger Squad is going to love you.”
We soon pulled up to the hotel and saw a bunch of naval higher ups in their uniforms with their plus ones. I’m pretty sure that I also saw some politicians entering the hotel. Natasha and I soon walked in and headed to the ballroom entrance where we showed our identifications along with invites.
When we walked in, I started to feel overwhelmed. Many members of the Navy and their plus ones filled the room while a live band played music.
“Oh, I see them!” Natasha started to drag me to where her friends were. “Guys, meet Y/N.”
I was soon met with two dark skinned men, one with a buzzcut, another one with a somewhat porno mustache, and one who looked like a real life Ken doll. She soon started to introduce me to them with their actual names and call signs. More of the members came and I was introduced to them along with her captain and his husband.
“Guess who finally showed up,” Jake announced. “How long does it take to get a soda?”
“Y/N, meet-” I looked over to see who came and I froze.
“Robbie?” His name fell out of my mouth.
“Y/N? Is that you?” He asked.
“Oh my god, it’s been so long.” I walked up and hugged him.
“It has.” He returned my hug.
“Wait, is this the Robbie you told me about?” Natasha asked.
“Yeah,” I nodded my head.
“Are we missing something here?” Mickey asked.
“Yeah, did you and Baby on Board used to have a thing or?” Jake asked.
“Baby on Board?” A confused look formed on my face when I heard the name he gave Robbie.
“No, we used to be childhood friends back in North Carolina,” Robbie explained.
“Yeah we’ve lived in the same neighborhood until I had to move to Arizona because my dad got a new job,” I nodded and pointed to Natasha. “That’s where I met Natasha.”
“And we’ve been inseparable until we had to leave for college.” Nat wrapped her arm around my shoulders. “It took me some convincing to get her to move down here.”
“Well, I had to finish both of my masters,” I told her.
“Two masters?” Admiral Kazansky raised his eyebrow.
“Yes, one in mechanical engineering and one in physics, but I also have a teaching credential for physics.” I smiled proudly.
“Do you mind if we continue this conversation while I get myself another drink?” The admiral asked me.
“I don’t mind at all Admiral,” I answered while linking arms with him.
While on our walk to the bar, he started asking me questions about my studies and why I double majored. I also talked about my time studying my undergrad at Cal Poly and getting my masters/teaching credential at the University of San Francisco.
Throughout our conversation, I glanced at the other side of the room to see Robbie talking to some of his squadron members. We would send each other a smile if we made eye contact with each other.
Soon a familiar tune filled my ears and the room. Placing my drink down on the bar, I faced the admiral.
“Excuse me sir, but I have to do something,” I excused sir.
“It’s no problem, also call me Tom.” He smiled and I nodded my head.
Hurrying myself to the other side of the room, I made my way to where Robbie was. When I saw him leaning against the wall as he listened to his friends, a smile came onto our faces as lyrics started to echo through the room. Handing his drink to Ruben, I grabbed his arm and dragged him to the dance floor as Come On Eileen played. (A/N I just imagine the dance scene in Perks of Being a Wallflower) We started to do the dance routine that we created when we were kids whenever this song played through the stereo. We continued to dance to the song and sang out the lyrics.
“Wow, it’s been a while since we last did that,” I caught my breath after he dipped me and we moved to a slow dancing position.
“I’m surprised that we still remember it,” he chuckled.
“After the amount of times we perform this dance in front of our families, I would be surprised if we don't remember the moves,” I looked up at him.
He still had the same face from what I remembered as a little kid, but it was more defined. He was still the shy and reserved kid that I knew of as I grew up.
“Hey, wanna head out?” He whispered in my ear which sent chills down my spine.
“Sure,” I agreed.
He led me off the dance floor and went to his squad.
“It’s been great meeting you all. I hope we get to see each other again,” I told everyone.
They all said their goodbyes and Robbie and I left the hotel ballroom. As Robbie and I waited for the valet to bring his wrangler around, I felt him put his coat over my shoulders and wrapped his arm around them. Leaning against him, I looked up at him and gave a smile. Soon the wrangler was pulled up and he helped me into the car. Getting into the driver’s seat, he closed the door and untied the tie he was wearing.
During the drive to Natasha and I’s house, we were sharing stories and memories from our childhood. He also explained the reason why Jake called him Baby on Board sometimes. I laughed at the stories that he had with his crew. I guess he’s glad that he’s permanently stationed here with his crew.
Pulling up in front of the house, he got out of the driver’s seat and helped me out of the car. Walking me up to the door, we stood there for a moment, waiting to see what happens next.
“Thanks for taking me home,” I thanked him.
“No problem, it’s nice seeing you again,” he smiled. “You look beautiful by the way.”
“Thank you,” I looked down at the ground and blushed.
I soon felt his fingers touch my chin and moved my head to face him. Don’t know the reason why but I started to feel my heart begin to race as my stomach fluttered. Leaning my head in as his did, our lips touched and moved. It continued for a few more seconds as it got more passionate until we detached, looking at each other with a blush on our faces.
“Did that just?” I asked.
“Yeah, it did,” he nodded his head.
“Well, I should head in now,” I told him and grabbed my house key from my clutch.
Unlocking it, I pushed open the door and walked into the house without closing the door. I tossed my clutch on the kitchen island and started my walk down the hallway to my room. Hearing the sound of Robbie’s footsteps entering the house, I looked over my shoulder a little and gave him a wink. Entering my room, I took off my heels and started to unzip the back of my dress.
“Need help with that?” I heard Robbie’s voice enter my room.
“Please,” I answered despite me not needing any help.
Chills were sent throughout my body as I felt his breath hit my neck as he slowly unzipped my dress. I bit the inside of my lip as he started to place kisses down my neck. With my dress off, leaving me in my undergarments, I turned and started to kiss him as he led me to my bed.
*Aftercare*
Tangled up in my bed sheets, Robbie laid flat on his back while I laid my head on his chest. One of his arms wrapped around my waist while the other drew circles on my thigh.
“Imagine if we told younger us that we’ll be in this situation,” I chuckled, looking up at him.
“I feel they would be grossed out,” he let out a laugh. “I miss this, I miss us hanging out with each other.”
“Me too,” I agreed. “It sucked that we weren’t able to keep in contact with each other.”
He nodded his head and hummed in agreement. “But hey, we got to see each other again even though it took over ten years.”
“True,” I laughed.
“I know I already said that you look beautiful but that dress on you is amazing,” he complimented me.
“Well, I should buy that dress in other colors if it makes you do this,” I smirked as I gestured to us in bed.
“Nah, anything you wear can make me feel like this,” he placed a kiss on my lips.
“This isn’t going to affect our friendship right?” I asked him.
“I already lost you once, not losing you again,” he said while pulling me closer to him.
I smiled and laid my head on his chest letting out a yawn. Closing my eyes, I drifted off to sleep.
*The Morning After*
Opening my eyes, I looked over to see Robbie still sleeping. Smiling to myself and last night’s events, I quietly got out of bed and threw on his dress shirt. Walking out of my room, I walked down the hall to the kitchen to see Natasha standing there with a cup of coffee and a smirk on her face.
“So, my backseater huh?” She asked.
“Shush,” I blushed a little while pouring myself a cup of coffee.
“Hey, just saying he’s a really good guy but you already know that,” she told me.
Soon we heard footsteps revealing Robbie in his boxers and hair disheveled.
“Yeah, he really is.”

Hi!! I was wondering if I could request a fluffy one shot with iceman from top gun?? I was thinking a morning after and reader is kinda unsure of what is going to happen but Tom is super sweet and cuddly. Love your writings!!!💕💕
Morning After
Tumblr media
Summary: Worries flood your mind after your first time with Iceman. You had been told to stay away from Navy pilots after all. Luckily, Ice makes how he feels about your relationship clear.
Warnings: mentions of sex, kissing, doubts about relationship (I guess)
Word Count: 2.1k
Tumblr media
Plenty of people had warned you about the Navy pilots before moving so close to Top Gun. You were well aware of how they swept women off their feet one day only to leave them the next. Rinse and repeat. Yet, you moved anyways, into a small, one-bedroom apartment. It was cute, had a balcony that overlooked the beach, and was extremely close to the Hard Deck. That was where it all started.
Your friend introduced you to the beach-side bar one Friday night. You weren’t looking for a Navy stud to take home. You just wanted to have fun.
After a round of billiards, you retired to the bar as your friend “went to the bathroom.” As she walked away, the man in uniform she had talked to while playing pool joined her, and they exited the building instead of turning left into the bathrooms.
A beer hardly took the pain of being ditched away. What a nice introduction to the city: your friend, and ride, leaving you stranded at a bar. At least it was a short walk home.
It was then he caught your eye. Across the bar, a blonde man wearing sunglasses and intensely chewing gum inside was looking in your direction. He lifted the glasses from his eyes when he spotted you and winked once they were finally off his head. You rolled your eyes. Another pilot. How could your friend have fallen for the other man's tricks?
The man’s eyes stayed glued to you as you quickly drank your beer. The sooner the golden liquid was gone, the sooner you could walk home. You glimpsed across the bar again. The blond had disappeared. Your eyebrows scrunched in confusion as you checked around for the mystery man.
“Oh my God,” you breathed, flinching in surprise. He was right next to you, leaning against the clean bar-top. A cheeky grin spread across his face.
“Did I scare you?” he teased, his facial expression unchanging, “Or are you just that surprised at my good looks?”
“No, you surprised me, that’s all,” your cheeks began burning. There was no doubt they were now a deep pink color. You grabbed your bag and began standing, but the blond blocked your way to the door. Every time you stepped in a different direction, he followed. Eventually, you groaned and looked him straight in the eye as he stood in front of the exit door.
“Can I at least get a name?” he asked.
You sighed and brushed a strand of hair out of your face. The man was handsome with his beautiful green eyes and stunning face, you had to admit but his ego was clearly enormous. Maybe if he could keep it under control. But that would never happen. He was one of the infamous Navy pilots, after all.
“Y/N.”
“A little louder, please?” he said, bending down slightly and tilting his ear towards you.
“Y/N!” you practically shouted. The rest of the bar was too full and rowdy to hear your little scuffle. The man chuckled and resumed chewing on his piece of gum.
“I’m Iceman.”
“Ha, ha,” you said sarcastically, deciding to humor Iceman’s attempts, “What’s your real name?”
“Why? You’re not into pilots?”
You sighed for what seemed like the thousandth time in the evening, “No, I’m not. Now, tell me your real name or I’m walking out the door.”
“I’d like to see you try,” Iceman taunted. He crossed his arms but, when you didn’t move, he continued, “The name’s Tom Kazansky.”
“Great,” you stated bluntly, “Now, Tom, I would like to go home. Let me through, please.”
He begrudgingly returned his arms to his side, allowing you to walk through the exit. His voice called after you once you walked out of the building. You ignored him the first time, and the second, but the third time you turned around.
“Yes?”
“At least let me walk you home,” he appealed to you. His ego was starting to fade.
“I think I’m fine, thanks,” you replied, but you didn’t turn back around yet. You wanted to hear his response.
“C’mon. You can’t walk home alone, especially this late.” he checked his watch and then made eye contact with you again, “it’s almost eleven.”
Your eyes darted around the night. It was incredibly dark and the street lights weren’t helping. There were plenty of spaces someone could be hiding in, plenty of spaces you could be taken to...
“Fine,” you said. It was your turn to cross your arms when he paused in disbelief, “You coming?”
Iceman hurried to your side and, after casually throwing his arm around your shoulders, you began making your way back to your apartment.
To your utter surprise, the walk was nicer than you expected. The conversation flowed smoothly, although it only lasted for about ten minutes. You couldn’t help but ask about his flying escapades and he happily obliged, detailing the most daring missions he’d been on and the training he did. It didn’t occur to you that his stories may have been a tad exaggerated.
Once you were at your front door, your opinion of Iceman had practically done a complete 180. Despite his ego, he had treated you kindly even though he knew he wouldn’t be reaching third base that night.
“Thank you for walking me home,” you said, turning around in your doorway. He was standing across from you with his hands behind his back. He looked innocent outside of your door. Nothing like the man who had tempted you across the bar just twenty minutes ago.
“It was no problem,” he replied, “I’ll see you around.”
“Yeah, definitely,” you nodded, a light blush returning to your cheeks, “Good night.”
“Good night.”
You returned to the Hard Deck without your friend the next night and the next. Suddenly, it had been a week of going to the unruly bar. The reason was to see Iceman, of course, but you couldn’t admit that. At least, not yet. Each time, you played the same game of eyeing each other across the bar. Then, as soon as one of you was about to leave, the other would catch up to them and “walk them home.” It was truthfully just a stroll to your house after a couple of beers.
Several times during your walks, you found your eyes wandering up to your escort home. Man, was he hot. Thoughts drifted into your head. At first, they were innocent: what it would feel like to run your fingers through his hair, to hold his hand, to feel his lips on yours. But, whenever your dreaming would take a more explicit turn, Iceman would notice your staring and you would be interrupted.
“We can’t keep going about this,” Iceman finally said the fourteenth time (fifteenth? You weren’t sure at this point) he escorted you home. There had been plenty of unofficial bar dates where a friend insisted they drove you home instead. Those were your least favorite days, for obvious reasons.
“Going about what?” you asked innocently. This time, your hands were positioned behind your back, “What do you want to change?”
“You know what,” Iceman took a step closer to you. You could feel his breath on your skin, sending goosebumps down your spine.
“I’m not sure I do,” you teased, a surge of confidence rushing through you. You had gotten to know Tom. He wasn’t one of those Navy pilots that people gossiped about. Maybe he was in the beginning, but now.. now you were in the clear, “Why don’t you show me?”
Iceman chuckled and took another step closer. His face was hardly inches from you. He bit his lower lip sensually, his eyes darting between your mouth and eyes. Eagerness was building in your abdomen as you leaned in as well. To your past self’s dismay, you had been waiting for this.
In a moment, Iceman’s lips were crashing against yours in a desperate fever. They were just like you imagined them. Rough, but passionate, like he had been harboring the same thoughts about you that you held for him. Both of you were stumbling back into your apartment. After slamming the door behind you, Iceman wrapped his arm around your hips, picking you up and carrying you to the bedroom as your hands began tugging at his shirt.
You disconnected your lips for a second, taking a breath of air, “Are you sure about this?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?” he answered before placing his lips on your once again.
xXx
You awoke early the next morning. Faint sunshine was streaming through your window, illuminating the room in a gentle glow. Your covers were a mess. The clothes you had worn the night before were thrown haphazardly on the floor, along with some pillows. Everything seemed perfect. Too perfect.
Thoughts began flowing through your head. They were unlike the pleasant ones that filled your mind before. They were doubtful, worrying. What was going to happen now? You glanced at the man sleeping to your right. He was so peaceful and calm. What would happen when he woke up?
The words “Why wouldn’t I be?” kept returning to your mind. Was he actually unsure? What if he didn’t actually care? Were you just another one-night stand to him? You had only known him for a month or so, too. You didn’t doubt that Iceman would play the long con for a pretty face. The thought that he had done that to you made you sick.
Suddenly, you felt something tugging at your waist. Iceman’s large arms wrapped around you, pulling your body close to his. He laid his head over your shoulder and began placing small kisses along your neck.
“Good morning,” he mumbled in between lazy kisses.
You hardly heard him. You were too lost in thought to process any noise outside of your brain. Was he buttering you up to drop you like a rock not minutes later? He had probably put his clothes on already and was only still here to tell you he would never see you again.
“Good morning,” Iceman said a little louder. He stopped peppering kisses down your neck, “How’d you sleep?”
“Fine.”
“You look beautiful.”
“Thanks.”
Iceman frowned and unattached one of his hands from your waist. He propped himself up on his elbow, his other hand still laid across your stomach. You turned to lay on your back and stared at the popcorn ceiling, refusing to meet Iceman’s gaze. While your worries weren’t confirmed, you were almost certain they would be soon. You had fallen for a Navy pilot. You did what everything had instructed you not to do.
“What’s wrong?” Iceman asked, his fingers drawing circles around your stomach.
“Nothing,” you said quietly.
“You’re lying,” he stated. Iceman took his hand off your stomach and held your cheek gently, guiding your face to look at him. His eyes scanned your face for any sign of what was troubling you.
He sighed, “You know that I love you, right?”
“I bet you say that to all the girls,” you said, quietly laughing to yourself at the end.
“I definitely don’t,” he scoffed, getting off his elbow and wrapping his arms around you again. He dragged you across the bed so he was spooning you from behind, “In fact, you’re the first person I’ve said that to in a long time. What made you think that?”
“I don’t know. Everybody warned me about Navy men when I moved here and I figured you wouldn’t really care about me.”
“What? I would never treat you like... however people told you Navy pilots treated women. I don’t know what would happen to me if something bad happened to you. I- I care for you a lot, Y/N, no matter how big my ego is,” he said. You could sense the cheeky grin growing on his face.
“Oh, so you’re self-aware now?” you joked.
“Mhm,” Iceman murmured, holding you tighter than he was before. For the first time since you awoke, you realized how comfortable his arms felt around you. It was like they were perfectly built to fit your waist, “I mean it when I say I love you Y/N. I hope you love me back.”
You twisted around in his arms to face him and looked him in the eyes. They were soft, unlike the night before when they were eating you alive. You couldn’t help but smile. He loved you. He really did.
“How long can you stay until?” you asked.
“As long as you need me to.”
“Good,” you said. Before joining your lips in a slow, much-needed kiss, you added, “I love you, too, Tom.”

wordcount: 4.3k
warnings: alcohol consumption, shitty ex-boyfriend, language ;0
Tumblr media
Today had been a rough day. Training at Top Gun had increased to a new level of difficulty. With each new assignment and flight training demanding a new level of grit and determination to accomplish. And it certainly didn’t help that your heart was still in the process of mending from the pain caused by your most recent boyfriend, well, now I suppose, ex-boyfriend.
The day at Top Gun was finally over, and the thought of coming home to your single-unit pleased you in the moment, but you knew damn well, that the second you got back to your apartment, the dread of it all would sink in.
So, after a shower, and a luke-warm beer that you had forgotten to put in the refrigerator, you found yourself perched on the arm of your living room couch, fiddling with the remote that never seemed to work, but probably just needed batteries. You found some shitty action movie on tv and ate a plate of strawberries as the sound of fast cars and men with Floridan accents became a comforting lull in the background.
Your night, or at least how you had planned it, would consist of, 1) the second half of this shitty movie 2) the leftover chicken quesadilla you had waiting for you in the refrigerator and 3) the cheap thriller novel that you had found at the drugstore last week. What you didn’t anticipate happening, was the doorbell ringing promptly at nine, just after you had finished your dinner.
So, you pulled yourself up from the couch, and on the way to the door, when you passed a glimpse of your reflection in the hallway mirror, you debated grabbing a cardigan or a blanket or something to cover up your sloppy look. You were wearing a navy-branded t-shirt (courtesy of your days at the academy), and pair of biker shorts that appeared to be non-existent as they hid beneath the excess material of the mens tripple-XL shirt. But the closer you got to the door, the further that thought was in your mind, and you decided, that whoever was on the other side of the door would just have to deal with your post-work image.
“y/l/n,” Goose stated confidently, a hand resting on his hip, “you busy tonight?”
Your posture relaxed when you realized who it was; the man you practically grew up with.
You deadpanned and gestured to yourself, “does it look like I’m busy Bradshaw?”
Goose shrugged, not entirely sure how to reply to that retort of yours.
“What do you need Goose?” You asked nonchalantly, both wanting and not-wanting to get back inside to the comforts of your sofa.
“A couple of the guys and I are going to grab drinks at the Duke and I was wondering if you wanted to tag along?”
You gestured to yourself again, “Does it look like I’m fit to go to a bar Nick?”
“It looks like you need a pair of fuckin pants,” he said jokingly, which earned a slap to his bicep.
“I know things haven’t been great for you lately y/n,” Goose said, “with Brett and all.”
Brett. Just hearing his name brought an unwanted surge of pain through your chest. Specifically, the surge of pain that you had been trying to push away for the past couple of weeks. You didn’t cry about him anymore, in the daytime that is. But at night, when you would lie in bed beneath the darkness of the moon, missing the presence of having someone to curl into, the tears would come, and they would temporarily make an impression on your pillowcase. But as you slept it off, the tears would dry, and you would wake up the next morning feeling mostly okayish.
“And I think,” Goose said, bringing you back into reality from the facade of memories that you had been reminiscing upon within your mind just then, “if you came out with us tonight, you’d have more fun than you would here,” he said, gesturing to your townhome, “spilling a tub of ice cream all over yourself while you sit alone with the lights off.”
Way harsh Goose, you thought to yourself. But he did have a point. You hadn’t been out in forever. The last time you actually went and got drinks like a proper twenty-something-year-old was with your parents when you relocated to San Diego for your position in Top Gun. And that was just at some locally owned Mexican restaurant that happened to have a bar inside. Maybe it would be good to get back out there?
You rolled your eyes, “Give me ten minutes and I’ll be ready.”
So, as Goose, your childhood best friend stood in your kitchen, washing the plate you had used to eat your chicken quesadilla, you were busy in your room getting yourself ready for the evening. You dressed yourself in a lacey black tank top that looked only slightly like lingerie, but didn’t if you wore it tucked into a pair of straight-cut jeans and wore it alongside a pair of low beige heels. As you ran a comb through your wavy hair, you couldn’t help but stare at yourself in the mirror.
Sure, it was a pretty typical outfit that other young women of your age wore when they went out for drinks, but it was cute. And it did provide you with the security of looking  just like every other woman. Thats exactly what you wanted to appear to be; just like every other woman. Brett had dumped you because you weren’t ready to settle down with him. You weren’t ready to move in, you weren’t ready for marriage, and you sure as hell weren’t ready for children. Brett wanted you to finish up Top Gun and then lie low for a while, putting your career aside. “Be realistic,” Brett had said, “This pilot shit can’t last forever. Maybe look at getting a different job, one thats more feminine?”
Your career was very important to you. You had worked so hard to climb the latter that that is the United States Navy. Your career was the highlight of your life. It was everything you had ever worked towards. And you weren’t going to give that up. And as much as you hated to admit, the reason of your recent break-up, had been affecting your ego ever so slightly.
So tonight, as you admired your curves in the mirror, and put on some mascara, you told yourself that you were just like every other woman.
“This better be worth it,” you grumbled, shutting the door to Goose’s Bronco, scanning the beach-side dive bar with your eyes.
Off in the distance, the evening tangerine hue was beginning to creep up and onto the horizon, putting the day to sleep in preparation for the night. And alongside the dimming of the evening, the neon lights of the dive bar became more welcoming.
The Duke, the off-base bar that Goose had insisted you join him and the others at, was the kind of place that had charm, but only if you knew where to look for it. It was the kind of place with neon lights and drinks that were both cheap and good. It was the kind of place that people came to forget about the day they had just had. Thats what you wanted. And the aura of the loud music coming from the bar would sure help with that.
“Trust me, y/n,” Goose reassured you, responding to your question, “it will be.”
You wanted to believe Goose, you really did. And the moment you saw the table of guys that you’ve began to come to know as your group of friends, the night already seemed better.
“Look who made it!” Iceman said as you approached the table, making you feel welcome, “Its good to see you Cobra,” he said, calling you by your call sign.
You smiled and as you took a seat at one of the empty chairs, saying your ‘hellos’ to the other classmates that were here. And at the end of the table was no other than Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell – perhaps, your greatest competitor – sitting laxly with a beer in his hands and his regular leather jacket draped around his chair.
Damn he had nice arms.
“Evening Cobra,” he said to you, leaning back ever so slightly in a way that seemed to be slightly too confident.
“Maverick,” you offered as a form of pleasantry.
Slider, who was busy looking at the drink menu slapped it down on the counter, pointing to one item in particular. “Now this,” he said, his finger drawn to a platter of five tequila shots, “this is what we need to get things going.”
So, as soon as a one of the circulating waitresses happened to be walking by your table, she wrote down, and then brought over the collective order of your table, the night certainly got a whole lot more exciting.
“Alright,” Goose said, handing you your stalky shot glass of 100% pure tequila, complete with a rim of salt and an accompanying lime, “To good times,” he said nodding.
“Good times,” you repeated along with the others, before drawing the glass to your mouth, tasting the dryness of the salt right before proceeding to take the shot.
The warmth of the alcohol tricked down your throat as you swallowed, and you forgot just how strong shots could be. You weren’t sure if swallowing it as quickly as possible made the uncomfortable sensation better or worse, but as soon as the clear liquid was all emptied from your glass, you jammed the lime into your mouth and squinted your eyes shut as a way to combat the sensation. You weren’t the only one. It seemed everyone at your table, was just to realizing how strong Slider’s chosen shots were.
“Shit,” Goose groaned, setting his glass down on the table, “And you enjoy these Slider?”
Slider shrugged, grinning, “Its awful right now, but hey, come ten minutes, you’ll feel real great.”
Opening one of the beers on the table, you rolled your eyes Sliders comment, “It’ll take more than that,” you sarcastically groaned to Goose who was seated beside you.
“What was that y/n?” Iceman asked.
You shook your head, “Ah, it was nothing.”
“Do I hear you wanting to go for a round two?”
Now, a sensible you would have said no. But since it was Friday night, you wouldn’t have to get up early tomorrow for class. And its not like you had any other plans for the day besides catching up on some paperwork and going on your usual walk. So for once in your life, you threw caution to the wind and agreed, “You got it Ice.”
So, naturally, when your platter of shots arrived, you passed them out, handing each one of the guys their respective glasses with a smirk.
“Maverick,” you said charmingly – gee, thanks alcohol – and you tried to avoid the warm feeling in your chest when your slender fingers skimmed against Maverick’s as you handed him the glass.
“Three, two, one,” you counted down, giving yourself, and possibly the rest of your group, the mental preparation prior to that same burning sensation that would wreak havoc in your mouth prior to swallowing and quickly placing the lime in your mouth.
There was a collective groan from your table as the five shot glasses returned to their small cedar serving plank.
You laughed, washing down the remaining remnants of the uncomfortable taste with the beer you had ordered. “I am not doing that again.”
So, for the next while, as the effects of the alcohol began to make itself present in your body, you sat at the table, just chatting and hanging out with your classmates, sharing stories from your lives before the navy. And while the five of you talked, you couldn’t help but stare at the opposite end of the table where Maverick was seated.
Sure, naturally, prior to this evening, you had realized that Maverick was attractive, but being in a relationship with someone didn’t really allow you to fully appreciate his beauty. With his dark hair, carelessly brushed in an effortlessly windswept way atop of his head, and his oceanic eyes, that in some lights appeared green, and in others, appeared to be almost blue.
Physically, he was gorgeous, but your past interactions with him intrigued you to what it would be like to know him. He had an ego, one that was strong and unaffected, but there was something about his drive, about his reach, about the passion he put into everything he did. You couldn’t help but wonder if one knew him intimately, if he would pursue them with the same passion and drive.
The thought cleared from your mind when his eyes met yours, making you look away, and ultimately force yourself to think of something other than the man that is Maverick.
You hadn’t noticed, but with the loss of your collective sobriety that each one of you can your friends had came in with, the music in the dive bar began to form a sound for itself. The radio collection, of rock, and pop, and some hard core groovy songs had elevated in loudness, so much so, that in a section of the bar a cluster of people had begun to dance among the cleared spot in the building.
“Do you guys see that?” Slider asked, his face drawn in a grin.
You turned in your chair, studying the dancers with your eyes, then turning back to face the table, “What?” You asked.
“That blonde over there,” Slider said, “She’s giving me some serious fuck me eyes.”
Hearing those words come out of your classmates mouth nearly made you choke on your beer, you weren’t expecting that.
“Wanna join me Ice?” Slider asked, “She’s got friends.”
You rolled your eyes as the two of them as they both threw themselves out of their seats and leisurely sauntered over to the dance floor.
“Anything to get laid,” Goose muttered jokingly when the two men began to sway to the beat of the music not quite beside, but very much near the two women.
“You could probably meet someone out there Cobra,” Goose said, more directly to you.
You scanned the crowd again, “I’m not too sure if I want to,” you gestured to the men, “they all look like their mothers still pick out their clothes for them.”
Maverick snorted from his spot over across the table, “She’s got a point Nick.”
You turned to face Maverick and flashed him a grin, “see, someone gets me!”
Goose shook his head, trying to hide his smile before saying, “I’m going to go give Carol a call, I promised I’d call her tonight. You two try and stay out of trouble,” he said, lecturing the two of you like children.
Seemingly the moment Goose left the table, Maverick’s gaze met yours. You were usually fine with eye connate, but there was something about the way that Maverick’s enchanting green eyes were staring into your own that made you feel both nervous and calm at the same time. You weren’t too sure what to say, or what the two of you could talk about, so as a way of diverting the imminence of your conversation, you took another drink of your beer, which only provided a moment relief where you weren’t required to think of what to say.
“You dance?” He asked you, the comment coming out of nowhere.
You shook your head, “I can sort-of dance, but I don’t that often,” you told him unsure of why you chose to tell him that. “And you?” You asked him back.
Maverick shook his head grinning, “not really my thing either.”
And then from across the room you heard a voice of familiarity, and right away you knew who it belonged to. Brett. Your ex-boyfriend Brett. The man who broke your heart Brett.
As much as you didn’t want to turn around, and face the man who had told you to take a step down from your career, your suspicions got the best of you, and as much as you didn’t wish to see him, there was some sort of burning panic in your chest that wouldn’t be fulfilled if you didn’t turn in your seat.
There he was. Standing tall, with his sandy hair, and well sculpted physique, whispering tiny inaudible thoughts into the ear of a woman with bleach blonde hair. Your eyes met his, and suddenly you wanted to leave. You wanted a sinkhole to come up into the bar and swallow you whole. And the moment Brett flashed you a grin, one that said, this is my new woman, you jealous? You felt the desire, no, the need to get out of the bar. You weren’t ready to face all of this just yet.
But time doesn’t always work in your favour. And so the moment Brett walked over to your table, his arm linked tightly around the slender waist of the bleach blonde woman, you weren’t too sure what to do.
Brett smiled in the kind of way that reminded you of what it was like to know him, before spewing out pleasantries and introducing the woman known as Crystal who was joined at his hip. “Its good to see you out y/n,” he said coyly, and in that moment, a ping of hatred found its way through your heart, how had you ever been with this man.
But instead of telling him off, as much as you wanted to, you smiled bluntly, your eyes revealing your true nature, “And its good to see you indulging in pleasures other than morning runs and cheap beer from the gas station.”
As Crystal gave you a dirty look, Maverick snorted before walking over to your end of the table and putting an arm around your chair, “I think its time for you to be on your way man,” he said to Brett.
Brett shrugged, stuffing his hands into the pockets of his jeans, “I was just coming by to say hello,” before he walked away, his hand moving down from Crystals waist circulating above her ass. Good riddance Brett!
You turned to Maverick, flashing him a gentle smile, “thanks for that Mav,” before pausing and looking to the door, “if you don’t mind, I think I just need some air.”
And without protest, you pushed yourself up from your seat, and tried to compose yourself as the night time air hit your face. You felt warm – thanks to the alcohol – but the coldness felt lovely on your skin. You felt refreshed, cleansed almost.
On the opposite side of the Duke, was the sandy beach leading up to the ocean, which now, in the dark of night, was illumined by nearby houses and buildings, and the light of the moon reflected calmly on the waters. You decided to walk onto the sand, removing your heels from your feet and letting the now-cold sand wiggle around your toes as you walked, until you found a spot within the sand to take a seat.
Gosh, the one person you didn’t want to see tonight was Brett, and surely enough, he was there. You hated that you saw him, and you hated that you weren’t quite over him yet. Naturally, things would take time, you just wanted to get through that as quick as you could.
Behind you, you heard the sound of someone clearing their throat, which made you turn, your awareness of your surroundings coming into a fuller passage.
It was Maverick, waking slowly towards you through the sand. “Mind if I sit?” He asked.
You gestured to the available ground beside yourself, “by all means, be my guest.”
You didn’t really feel like you wanted company, but then again, it was Maverick, only Maverick, and you didn’t want to turn him away after he had stood up for you back there.
And as soon as Maverick sat down beside you, the warmth and familiarity of his scent filed your way through the air, a blend of sandalwood and citrus, and cedar, and near-summer nights, you found yourself relax a bit in his presence.
For a while, the two of you just sat there beneath the moonlight in one another's company, just listening to the sound of the waves upon the shore. It was peaceful.
“So that was him?” He finally asked you.
You nodded, turning your face ever so slightly to face him, “that was Brett, the Marine.”
Maverick nodded, “Goose told me about him,” he paused, “he seems like an ass.”
You chuckled, not too sure why, “you’re right about that.”
You weren't too sure how much of your failed relationship you wanted to share with your friend. You and Maverick weren't particularly close, but the two of you obviously cared about one another.
“I just hate,” you sighed, “I hate how when I was with him, I didn’t even realize how big of a dick he could be.”
Maverick looked over to you, as if he knew you were going to say more.
“He told me to give up my career after I’m done at Top Gun,” you said, feeling a sense of relief by telling someone else about the matter, “He wanted to get married, and have kids, and he wanted me to follow him wherever he went.”
Maverick scoffed.
“And its not that I even hate that that’s what he wanted, I hate that part of me, a very, very, small part of me, considered it. And sometimes, all I can do if worry about if I made the right decision, and walked away from him, from that life for the one Ive worked so hard for.”
Maverick shook his head, and in a more quiet tone, he turned to face you, “don't ever doubt yourself like that. Ever.”
You looked away from him, feeling some warm sensation in your chest, but when Maverick resumed to speak, you had no other choice but to turn back to face the brunette.
“You’re a pilot,” he said, “Its in your blood, its in your veins, its who you are. And you’re damn good at it. Hell, somedays I wish I was nearly as good as you. You fly with so much precision and drive and when you're up there, I only wish I could have a fraction of whatever it is that you do, because you are just so so good at it.”
You looked back to Maverick, noticing the soften in his usual expression. His moonlight eyes were on you, and only you.
“And if you ever think you would be better off with some dick like Brett, you’re wrong, because someone who loves you, shouldn’t hold you back from your potential, they should push you, they should inspire you to do better, to be better, to become better.”
For a while, the two of you just sat in silence, absorbing the pure intimacy of one another's gaze. You hadn’t realized how cold it was beginning to get because you were too busy thinking about what Maverick had just said. You didn’t realize the trail of goosebumps that had found their way across both of your arms, the cool night time air that brushed against them. But Maverick did.
Maverick slipped his arms out of his leather jacket, and draped it around your shoulders, a peaceful expression on his face. “Here,” he said, dawning the jacket, the very one that smelt so much like him it made you relax, “Its not super warm, but its better than nothing.”
When the warmth returned to your arms, almost the minute you gathered the material around yourself, your thoughts were finally gathered back into your head. You turned to Maverick, your knee brushing up against his faintly, but just enough that you were aware of its presence, and the way in which the faint warmth radiated through the fabric of both his jeans and yours, until you became hyperaware of its presence, and gave him a soft smile. “Thank you,” you told him.
“For the jacket,” you said, pulling the leather closer to your chest, “and for what you said. No one has ever told me that before.” You paused a moment, “it means a lot.”
Maverick’s expression softened and he looked at you contently, “its the truth,” he said softly.
You leaned into him, your head now resting on his shoulder, you felt a sense of peace, a sense of relief, you felt relaxed in Maverick’s presence. And when he leant his head, gently atop of yours, you knew that what Maverick had said was genuine.
And so, like you had initially thought, when Goose suggested the idea of going to a bar, you thought you would have maybe made one or two bad decisions, maybe choosing to kiss a man with far too much tongue, or follow him home. But what had ended up amounting from the evening was far better. You made a real connection, with someone who you would later find out, would become well worth you time.
That was the night you had met Maverick for the second time. The night when the two of you forged a connection one that even time wouldn’t be able to take away.

Tumblr media
You’d known Pete for almost as long as your brother, Nick, had. He’d only beaten you by a few days. You were a Naval nurse that always seemed to be stationed close to your brother. The first time you met Pete was when he got sucker punched in the face by a rather handsome man in Tom Kazansky. He went running to medical and you were his nurse. He was enamored with you quickly, especially learning that you were Goose’s sister, twin sister at that.
After years of playful flirting and happen chances you were moved to Miramar right after your brother and Pete were shipped off. Curious it was. You missed him, truly, so it was a little exciting to get the call. The two of you were literally attached at the hip growing up, being twins and all. This was the loneliest time in your life, you’d be amiss to say you were jealous he’d found a replacement for you so quickly after he left for flight school. Those couple years between school and deployments were your least favorite as the two of you barely saw each other.
You were captured in that Mitchell charm rather quickly that first time you met him. It took you a moment to piece together that he was your brothers new friend. You’d be lying to yourself if you didn’t think he was handsome as hell, even if he wasn’t the kind of guy you’d normally go after.
You knew you could look but couldn’t touch. Not with Nick’s best friend. He’d skin your ass alive, and you knew that. That didn’t stop you from forming a massive crush on him as you got to know him more throughout the years though. The two of you shamelessly danced around what could be on a daily basis. Nick knew there was probably something more there. Even if he tried to deny the connection the two of you had. He’d only be able to stop it for so long. But he’d keep trying for his sake. He knew as soon as Pete committed to somebody the time he got with his best friend would dwindle quickly. But, if Pete was going to get with somebody he’d be thrilled for it to be you.
You’d just gotten into Miramar and settled in when your brother invited you out to The Hard Deck for some drinks. He promised it wouldn’t get too rowdy knowing you were much more of a homebody rather than a party goer these days. When Nick casually mentioned that Pete would be coming with him you quickly agreed. Nick wasn’t stupid. He knew all about your silly little crush on his best friend. He could get you to go almost anywhere if Pete would be going. He then turned around and convinced Pete to go by mentioning that you agreed if he’d be there. Little did Nick know he was playing mini matchmaker as the two of you got closer and closer with each little activity he’d planned.
When you walked through the front door of the Hard Deck, after putting some effort into the way you looked because… Pete, your attention was drawn to the bar where your brother and Pete were already sitting, “Well I’ll be damned. Y/N Bradshaw out at a bar. A sight rarely seen.” He stood offering his seat to you as the bar had already filled out earlier on in the night than you’d expect. You’d be lying if you said you thought far too much of the little interaction. He was just being kind. You were his best friends twin sister after all. Nothing more, no matter how much you wished it differently.
You rolled your eyes punching him in the shoulder, “Keep that up and I’ll high tail it right out of here Mitchell.”
He winked leaning on your barstool rather than Nick’s, “Love that mouth on you Bradshaw.”
“Jesus, I’m sitting right here.” Nick sighed rolling his eyes at the two of you. Seemingly realizing the two of you were closer than ever at actually going for it. He’d seen Pete lay it on thick before, but this was something else.
Pete flicked his eyes over to his friend, “Wish you weren’t.” That got a laugh out of you. He was so fucking smooth when he wanted to be. Nick simply flipped him off before muttering something, grabbing his beer, and heading to the other side of the bar.
“Can’t believe that worked.” You laughed while flagging down the bartender to order your drink.
Pete smiled at you, taking in your appearance. You hadn’t a clue the massive crush he too harbored on you. Nick didn’t know for sure, but he thought he knew it was deeper than he was making it out to be. Pete wasn’t shy about making comments. He was always careful not to cross a line. But lately things were changing for the two of you. He was utterly pulled to you. Wanting to be around you at nearly every turn. Like two magnets drawn to one another.
“You should know by now Goose does what I ask him to.” He raised his eyebrows studying your face for your reaction.
“Does he now?” You asked leaning back after thanking the bartender for your pale ale.
Pete nodded slowly grinning right at you.
“Won’t be the same case for me. But you know that.” Not having a clue where the outwardly confidence was coming from you took a sip of your own beer eyeing him curiously.
Laughing, he nodded his head in agreement, “Trust me pretty, I do.” Pete smirked seeing the inevitable blush that started forming on your cheeks. It wasn’t the first time he’d used that name on you, but damn did it make your heart race. You wanted nothing more than to have him think you were pretty.
You decided to push it tonight because why not? Pete always pushed it, maybe it was your turn, “Pretty?” You asked leaning forward towards him, utterly interested as to what he had to say to that.
Pete raked his eyes up and down you sitting frame slowly, so slowly, “Downright gorgeous if I’m honest.” He nodded agreeing with himself.
“I don’t think Nick would like you saying that.” You could’ve sworn your heart stopped at the way he smiled at you. Like nothing you’d ever seen before with him.
“Goose isn’t around. What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him.” He leaned forward staring right at your lips. He surely wasn’t afraid to hide his desires. Desires you wished the two of you could act upon.
Before anything further could go on Pete was pulled into another conversation to his side, literally. A hand grabbed him and pulled him. You heard the groan as he turned back to you, “Be right back pretty. Iceman here needs some help.” He winked at you before receiving a clap to the back of the head earning a snicker from you.
It wasn’t five seconds later another person tried and succeeded in sitting at Pete’s spot, “I’m sorry, that spots taken.” You spoke not looking over. Truth be told you hated confrontation more than anything.
“Well, I’d argue it’s not.” A male voice spoke. You rolled your eyes finally looking over at him. ‘Course he was a pilot in those pretty white Navy uniforms you loved so dearly. He would’ve been handsome had he not opened up that ugly mouth of his.
“My friend is just using the restroom. He’ll be right back.” You looked around for Pete after losing him in the crowd to his pilot buddies. Your brother was long lost to the crowd as well. You’d just have to deal with the pig on your own.
“I’ll hold his spot until he’s back then, beautiful.” That got you to look at the sleezy man once again. He just wasn’t getting your hint.
This right here was why you avoided places like these. You peaked around once more feeling defeated not spotting any familiar faces in the crowd, “I’d rather you not.”
He laughed, a gross sound compared to Pete’s casual one, “Playing hard to get is adorable hun.” He cooed, mocking you. Surely a man who rarely got rejected. Maybe you should just get up and give up the spot. It wasn’t worth it at this point. This douchebag was being relentless, and he wouldn’t stop, you knew that.
Your frustration was evident on your face, he clearly wasn’t picking that up, “Please, just go, my boyfriend will be right back.”
He laughed that nasty laugh, throwing his head back, “Oh he’s your boyfriend now? Was just your friend a moment ago.” He leaned forward placing a hand on your knee. You jerked it back quickly without much of a second thought while sending him a nasty glare.
“Don’t touch me.” It didn’t sound as menacing as you’d have hoped. A shaky sounding voice exited as you’d prayed somebody would come and save you. The dude clearly didn’t have any boundaries.
“Oh, sweetheart.” He cooed at you again with that stupid smile creeping up all over again.
Lucky for you Pete had seen the interaction as he was keeping an eye on you. The dude seemed harmless at first until he laid a hand on you. Disgust crossing your face let him know you weren’t comfortable in the slightest. He had to do something. You were his best friends sister.
Before you could respond Pete did for you, “Get the hell out of my seat. The fuck is wrong with you?” Pete nearly growled. A sight you had yet to see from the man. It made you feel weirdly attracted to him at that very moment, a protective nature unfolding before you.
The man smirked while getting up from the seat, “The friend boyfriend I presume.” Shooting you a wink he turned back to Pete.
Pete shook his head, “Fuck off Lieutenant.” You saw the man glance at Pete’s status on his uniform indicating his recent promotion to Captain. There was something. The man rolled his eyes this time before walking away leaving you with an enraged Pete.
He turned to you looking you over. His expression softened seeing your irritated gaze, “Are you alright Y/N?” He asked looking you over, afraid of what the answer could be.
“I’m fine.” You looked away from him quickly feeling almost embarrassed at how quickly the entire thing escalated.
He sat down looking at you skeptically, “Are you sure?”
You nodded finding his concern more than endearing, “Yeah.”
“You don’t sound like it Bradshaw. The woman I know is usually a lot more decisive.” He pressed wanting to make sure you actually were fine. As much as you tried to deny it or wanted to hide it Pete knew you. He knew what your ticks were and handsy men were certainly one of them.
Closing your eyes, sighing, then taking a sip of your beer you thought for a moment, “I’m okay. You got here just in time. I just…” You paused not sure where you were going with it, “Never mind.” You spoke softly in frustration with yourself. Why was being real and vulnerable with him seeming so impossible? He’d been nothing but patient and kind with you, why were you having a hard time returning the favor? Digging down into the next layer seemed so scary, you’d never let anybody do it before. Maybe, just maybe, you were terrified to take the next step with somebody. Let alone your fucking brothers best friend.
Pete shook his head terribly unsatisfied at that answer, “No say it pretty girl. Stop hiding from me. It’s just you and me here, nobody is listening in.” He could see your eyes nervously trailing the bar. Like you were planning your escape. God, he really did know you and your mind because that’s exactly what you were planning, the great escape.
You gulped down a few drinks of the cold beer trying to find the nerve before continuing, “I just wish men would listen. I told him no five times and he wouldn’t take the damn hint Pete. It’s not the first time either. Seems like every time I come to one of these stupid bars this type of shit happens.” You sighed setting the coaster you were playing with in your hands down, “That’s why I hate coming out. It happens more often than not.” You admitted to him. Slowly you looked over to him, afraid of the reaction you would get from him. So often you’d get dismissed, your concerns tossed aside. It’s truly why you just stayed home. It was easier to avoid the situation entirely rather than get victim blamed for whatever action the man of the day decided to do.
You watched him process your words though. Really listen. A brief flash of hope surged through your body as he seemed to be the first male, other than your brother, who actually listened to you, “I know it doesn’t mean much, but I’m sorry. I’m sorry you have to worry about that. I’m sorry we are like that…” This time he paused looking away from you, trying to find his words. Because this wasn’t easy for him either. He was Pete, the playboy. The guy who flirted with anything that moved. The guy who could get whatever he wanted. But with you? You made him feel special. You filled a void he’d been searching for. He was convinced that was why he was the way he was. He was searching for that something that he could never seem to find. Then he found you. But you were off limits. So, he doubled down and tried to find something just like you, or better. But that was a pipe dream, he knew it. Nobody was like you. Nobody could compliment him as well as you did. Nobody seemed to come even remotely close to challenging him like you did. You were quick, witty, charismatic, everything he was looking for in a partner.
You nodded listening to him. Before you could respond though he continued, “I won’t lie to you Bradshaw, I was one of those guys. Been one of those guys. Thought it was charming or some shit like that. But you’ve opened my eyes to it. A lot of these guys think they know better, they’ll never listen. They’re asshole pilots.”
You laughed at that, feeling a small weight being lifted off your shoulders. Pete was digging with you, willing to get deeper than either of you had before, “Like you? An asshole pilot?” You joked with him, wanting to lift the mood just a bit.
He pushed your side lightly, loving the banter between the two of you. That’s how he knew you really were okay. Or that you’d be okay. He’d make sure of it, that was for damn sure, “Oh pretty.” He tossed back the last bit of beer from his glass, snickering after he gulped it down, “You’re sitting with the biggest asshole pilot out here.”
You laughed at that comment, “For some reason, I don’t have a doubt in my mind at all.”
He grinned enjoying seeing you with a smile on your face once more. He adored that smile of yours, “Only in the air though.”
You pushed his side in return, “Now I know you’re lying.” You shot him a wink loving the reactions you were able to stir out of him.
“You’re nothing but trouble Bradshaw.” His laugh was infectious. You couldn’t help but to join in giggling with him. There was something about him that just made you feel so utterly like yourself, perfectly content.
Feeling overly confident you answered him, “I don’t think you’d have it any other way. I get the feeling you like it.”
He nodded, a growing smile on his face, “I do. You know what else I like?” He looked you over again, letting you know just how pretty he thought you really were with that smirk washing over his face.
You cocked your head to the side wondering where he was going with this, “What’s that?”
He grinned loving every second of this, “You, I like you Y/N.”
You were sure your cheeks were as red as a damn tomato, sure of it. Your heart picked up to a rapid-fire speed as you processed what he said to you, “You… what?” Was all your brain could think to spit out at that comment.
His smile only grew seeing you work through it knowing he had completely thrown you off your game. He loved doing that to you. The overthinker you were surely didn’t account for this though, “I like you. Isn’t it obvious Bradshaw? I call you pretty, flirt with you all the time, annoy your brother to death about you.”
The blush on your cheeks surely darkened at that, “You do? He’s never said anything.”
Pete nodded, “Don’t think he’s actively trying to hook his best friend and sister up.”
“Well, when you put it like that.” You laughed realizing how ludicrous it really did sound. Was this actually happening? He actually liked you?
When you went silent for a moment and got that far off stare he knew he needed to speak up, “Tell me what’s going on in that pretty head of yours Y/N.” He took your hand in his, a bold move. One he’d been dying to do for quite some time. Between the alcohol and the confession and your obviously good reaction to it all had him feeling a little bit more daring with you than he’d normally would have been.
“You like me?” You turned to him with a look of confusion on your face.
He nodded quickly, “I thought I made it pretty obvious.”
“You probably did. I’m just clueless sometimes.” You smiled relishing in the feeling of Pete holding your hand in his much larger ones.
“You don’t say.” He gave your hand a squeeze letting you take your time. Not forcing you into any sort of confession.
But you wanted to give him one, because damn did he make you feel all sorts of things, “I like you too. You know that?”
This time it was his turn to have that shocked expression cross his face, “You do?”
“A lot.” You nodded your head at him, “More than I probably should.”
He leaned in a little closer now, closer than he’d been before, “I’d argue against that Bradshaw.” Brushing a stray strand of hair out of your face he took you in at a distance much closer than he’d normally seen you. Breathtakingly beautiful, that was his conclusion.
“At the bar? Really guys?” Your brothers annoying as hell voice broke the concentration the two of you had on one another. Pete rolled his eyes while you turned away in embarrassment.
Pete sighed before flipping his eyes to his RIO, "Goose! Really man?” Pete threw him a nasty look before pulling away from you.
“That’s my sister.” He shot him an equally as nasty look with his arms crossed over his chest. If your face wasn’t as red as a damn tomato from the confession it surely was from getting caught by your brother.
“Adult sister who can make her own decisions.” You coughed making sure to insert yourself between the bickering boys.
Nick only flipped you off. Pete gave you a high five loving how you could get under your brothers skin just as deep as he could. He was convinced the two of you were made for each other.
Nick scrunched his nose getting that defeated look across his face, “I don’t condone this.” He pointed at the both of you.
“But?” You interjected knowing he had more to say. Nick always had something more to say.
“I can’t stop it either.” He shook his head before looking right at Pete, “Maverick I swear to God if you hurt her in any way… I’ll beat the living shit out of you.”
Pete smiled knowing that was a valid threat, “I wouldn’t expect anything less Goose. Trust me though, I think it’s her you have to worry about. She’s going to break my heart.” Pete shot you one last wink before grabbing your hand in his. Letting Nick know just how serious he was planning to take this one. You weren’t like his flings of the past. You were different. You were you. He was waiting on you and here you are. Ready to start this life with him, one step at a time.

It had been a day from hell since this morning. First, Ice’s alarm hadn’t gone off, making him almost late for work. Then, he had to scramble out the door and was left without his morning coffee. You could only assume that this would make him extremely upset. With Tom’s recent promotion came an abundance of new responsibilities. You should have expected that these responsibilities would cause him to have to work insane hours just to keep up. You prayed that today would be an easy day. He could definitely use it after this morning.
You had spent your day cleaning the house and running errands. By the end of the day, you were exhausted, having had a terrible sleep the night before. Now, you were starting on dinner for the two of you. You were making Tom’s favorite; a creamy alfredo penne pasta with steamed carrots on the side. It was his mother's recipe and you knew that she would always use it to cheer her son up. You were hoping that it would work in this instance as well. You followed the recipe exactly, not wanting anything else to go wrong today. The sauce was now finished and simmering on the stove while the pasta and carrots finished.
Just as you moved to strain the pasta, you heard the front door open before slamming harshly. You mentally cursed, knowing that his day at work must not have been easy. Trying to find a positive in the situation, you focused on the fact that he was home early for once. You quickly set the table before untying your apron and setting it on the back of your chair. Just as you glanced up, Ice walked into the room. He barely spared you a glance as he moved to set his papers on the counter. Normally, you would ask him not to, but given the current situation, you bit your tongue.
Tom turned back around and sat at the table. “How was your day?” You questioned quietly. He sipped on his water slowly as you waited for him to answer. You returned to the food, pulling the pot of pasta off the burner and moving to strain it.
“I don’t want to talk about it.” He finally spoke. Instinctively, you froze in your spot. The only time that you had heard that tone before was at the O club when somebody who had gotten too handsy with you. Never had it been directed at you, however. You dished the two of you up in silence, eyes trained firmly on the plates in front of you. Wordlessly, you set the plate down in front of Ice.
You took a seat across from him as he began eating. You waited for him to say something, anything, to reassure you that the meal was good. When he said nothing, a soft sigh escaped you. You began eating your own food, getting lost in your head as you thought of ways to salvage the day. The two of you finished your meal in silence. The only sounds that could be heard throughout the room were the sounds of forks scraping and soft breathing.
Before you knew it, you were clearing the table and moving the dishes to the sink. Tom brought his papers to the table and began shuffling through them. At least he didn’t run away as soon as his plate was empty. The pair of you continued to work in silence. It was once again silent in the kitchen, like it had been for most of the evening. You had almost finished washing up the dishes when it happened. If you ever needed proof that a person created what they feared, this was a perfect example.
You tensed as the glass that you were putting away slipped out of your hand. It was as if time stopped as it moved toward the ground. The sound of glass shattering echoed throughout the entire kitchen, causing you to freeze instantly. The next thing you knew Ice was throwing his reading glasses onto the table and pushing himself out of his chair. You waited with bated breath for what he was going to say. “Are you serious?” Your eyebrows shot up instantly. What the hell did he mean by that? It’s not like you meant to drop the glass.
“Tom, I’m sorry, but-“ He held his hand up. With one motion, your words died in your throat. You swallowed quietly. You weren't scared of him but after the events of today, you had no idea what to expect.
When his hand lowered, you were left staring at a man that you hadn’t seen before. There was a dark look in his eyes that was unnerving. You swallowed slightly as you waited for him to speak. “How hard is it to put a glass in the cupboard?” His question left you baffled. Did he seriously blame you for this? You were so wrapped up in your thoughts that you didn’t notice the blood trickling down your leg. A piece of glass must have cut you. “My god.” He exclaimed roughly, dragging a hand up to run through his hair. What happened next left both of you stunned.
At the sudden movement of his hand, you jumped, moving back and knocking into the counter. Ice slowly brought his hand down, staring at you in shock. Any trace of annoyance was wiped from his face, replaced with what could only be described as concern. You stared at him in pure fear, your hands shaking steadily at your sides. Tears sprung to your eyes as you realized what had happened. “Baby I’m so sorry,” Tom whispered. You continued to stare at each other as the tears made their way down your face. When he moved to step closer to you, you shook your head with a sob. He instantly froze, not wanting to hurt you anymore than he already had. “Honey, you know I would never, ever hurt you. You know that, right?” You could only nod, tears still trailing down your cheeks.
You slowly moved away from the counter and towards the exit of the kitchen. Ice watched you with tears lining his own eyes as you moved out of the room. “I just need some space.” You whispered shakily. He could still clearly hear the fear in your voice. He could only nod as you walked out of the kitchen, hearing you rush up the stairs moments later. Ice spent the next few hours sitting at the table, head between his hands as he thought of ways to make it up to you. What killed him the most was knowing that you were upstairs, scared of him and crying because of what he did. He needed to figure out how to fix this.

The Summer I Turned Pretty
It has been a long time since I posted something and I'm sorry!! I'm currently on an exchange so I can't write as often but here is something new!
It's inspired by The Summer I Turned Pretty Series and all credits go the the author. There are probably going to be some changes but it is mainly based on that.

Next part
Cousins Beach, it had always been a summer tradition. From the moment school was over we took our bags and went to the beach house. It had been my uncle’s family house, but we went there every summer, spending it on the beach and enjoying the fireworks on the 4th of July. My father had been best friends with Tom Kazansky since college, both lost in the hallways, since then they have been attached to the hip. He was a constant presence in our lives, little notes and messages throughout the year until we could spend a whole month there on the beach together.
The familiar houses finally start to appear, and you can’t help but feel excited and at ease at the same time as you see them. Javy was on his phone, texting some of his friends or annoying your father with his antics but you wouldn’t trade him for the world. The house finally appears and this time you aren’t able to hide your excitement, your father’s smile widening at the sight of his best friend standing on the porch of the house.
“Took you some time to get here.”, your uncle says, a teasing tone in his voice and you see your father roll his eyes, but a large smile appears.
“Shut up and give me a hug Kazansky.”, the two men hug each other and before you can say anything you feel someone lift you off the ground, a shriek leaving your lips as you spin around. As your feet hit the ground again you turn around to find Bradley looking at you, his brown eyes lit up with that familiar cheerfulness. He seems a bit surprised as he looks at you, but you ignore it instead starting to talk with him before Javy interrupts.
“Jake come here!”, you hear Tom scream and as you turn around, there he is. Jake Seresin.
He had been adopted by Tom and Pete when he was just a baby and you had grown up with him, he always had a place in your heart. And as the wind sweeps his blond hair out of his eyes you are met with sparkling green eyes. He had always been handsome, even in his early teenage years, but now he was even more handsome.
“Hey.”, he says awkwardly, but you barely register it, too busy looking at him and thinking of every single thing that has changed.
“Hi.”, you say back and the two of you stand there for a moment looking at each other.
“You don’t have your glasses anymore.”, he says simply, and you suddenly feel self-conscious as you remember the thick glasses you used to wear.
“I wear contacts now.”, you tell him, and he nods, looking thoughtful for a moment.
“It was better with your glasses.”, you don’t know how to take the words as he leaves you to go and see Javy, the comment was weird. You had always hated how you looked with your glasses and here he was telling you that you looked better with them on it.
--
“Alright, are you guys ready to go to the party?”, you hear Bradley ask and you turn around with a slight frown, you hadn’t been told that there would be a party.
“Wait, which party?”, the boys turn to look at you before Javy sighs dramatically.
“There is a bonfire party, but you are watching the movies with dad and Ice.”, he says like it’s the most logical thing in the world.
“But I want to come to the party.”, you try to stand straight, trying to look more serious but your brother shakes his head.
“No way, I don’t want my little sister there.”, this time you can’t help yourself but scoff, Bradley quickly trying to convince your brother.
“Common she can come.”, but Javy simply shakes his head, and your dad comes just at that moment.
“What are we talking about?”, he looks between the two of us and you try to look as innocent as possible, but you know that it won’t work.
“There is a bonfire tonight and Javy won’t let me go to it.”, Javy tries to disagree, but your father shushes him.
“You are too young to go to a party, maybe next year.”, you can’t help but look at your father in disbelief.
“Javy isn’t that much older than me.”, you try to say but your father gives you a pointed look and you sigh.
“Fine.”, Bradley sends you a sad smile and you smile back, feeling defeated as Javy takes Jake outside, the blond boy glancing back at you before following him.
“Hey, I’ll tell you everything in the morning.”, Bradley promises, and you simply nod in answer, feeling dejected.
Natasha
‘So, what is happening there?’
You
‘Not much, wanted to go to a party but can’t.’
Natasha
‘Why don’t you just sneak out?’
Her text makes you think for a moment, the movies that you usually watch are quite long so you could try and go to the bonfire and come back in time for them to go to bed.
“Dad, I’m feeling tired, I think I will just go upstairs for a bit.”, your dad looks at you suspiciously, but Tom stops him before he can say anything.
“Of course, sweetheart, we will miss you but go and rest for a bit.”, you feel a bit bad at his words, you knew he always loved to spend time with you.
“I will, and we will spend time together for the rest of the summer!”, the three men smile at you softly before you leave the room.
You decide to leave a few minutes later, the bonfire not too far away from there and as you arrive you hear the laughter of teenagers. There is not a lot of people you know; you meet Jake’s gaze for a moment, and he looks surprised to see you before the blond girl brings him back into a conversation.
You hear your name, and you turn around to find Javy coming towards you.
“What the hell are you doing here?”, he says, there is a girl not far away from him, but you just roll your eyes at his antics.
“You are not the boss of me Javy.”, the teenager looks frustrated at your words before throwing his hands in the air.
“Fine but don’t drink any alcohol and you better figure out a way to go home.”, you roll your eyes at his words before going down the beach a bit further.
“Parties not really your thing either?”, you turn around to find a blond guy with a sweet smile looking at you.
“First one actually.”, he nods slowly before looking around the beach.
“Wish I could tell you it gets better, but it is always the same.”, his words make you laugh and the smile on his lips widens.
“I’m Bob.”, he says, and you smile at the name before introducing yourself.
“So, tell me about yourself.”, you spent the rest of the night talking, never having felt more at ease then at that moment with him.
“This might be something stupid, but would you mind if I kissed you?”, he seems nervous at the question, but you simply shake your head, getting closer to him.
His blue eyes look into yours, as if asking for permission again before he softly kisses you. It feels good, little butterflies in your stomach at the feeling of his lips and you stay there for a bit longer. That is until Javy calls you and tells you to come with them.
“That is my cue.”, you whisper softly and Bob smiles at your words.
“We should meet again.”, he says as the two of you walk towards the car.
“Text me when.”, you tell him as you give him his phone back, this time with your number in it.
“Common lets go.”, Bradley says as he sees you coming and you roll your eyes.
“If you want, I can bring her back!”, Bob says, and you smile at him softly but Bradley scoffs.
“Yeah, not happening, what is even your name?”, the question is a bit rude, but he ignores your glare.
“B-bob.”
“Well B-Bob, I’m not letting her get home with a stranger so better say goodbye.”, you roll your eyes at his words before Bob promises you to text you the next morning.
You ignore the rest of the boys until you get home, you silently hope that they are all asleep and that they won’t see that you went out.
All the hope dies out as you come in to find your father and uncles looking at all of you with raised eyebrows.
“You have some explaining to do young lady.”
Tell me if you want a second part :))

Ice Cold, No Mistakes - T. Kazansky
Tumblr media
pairing: Tom "Iceman" Kazansky x Female!Reader warnings: death, grief, sadness, angst, TOPGUN shit word count: 1.6k Iceman Masterlist | Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
“Ice, why are you so cold?”
It was the age old question that everyone dared to ask. What made Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky so cold? People over the years had speculated what caused him to be so closed off and fly with the precision that he did.
Some suggested it was daddy issues. His old man must’ve been a hardass and instilled that Ice could only be the best. That his dad was mentally abusive, calling Ice names when he was anything less than perfect or had too much feeling. Some even suggested that Ice’s dad was living vicariously through him, which made him work even harder because letting him down would be the last thing that Ice would want.
The other rumor was that it was his mom. That his mom was some sort of leech, maybe a drunk or a druggie that constantly needed money. That he grew up poor because his mother was spending every dime on vodka and coke. So Ice worked hard to get himself through the academy, and into flight school and then ultimately into TopGun. And with all the money that Ice was making, he sent some of it back home to pay his mother’s bills and keep a roof over her head, and to help her survive on her addiction problems.
But both the family rumors turned out to be just that. . . rumors. Goose had met Iceman’s parents at their graduation, and it promptly shut down those bad/toxic parenting stories. Ice’s parents were nothing like him, they were warm, caring individuals from a small town on the east coast. His mother was a school teacher and his father a banker. Some of the questions on Ice’s cold personality were answered, but not all of them.
So what made Tom Kazansky so cold?
Well, that could be answered with a simple explanation: it was her.
No one had asked questions about the picture of the girl in his locker. It wasn’t uncommon for the pilots to stick pictures of their families inside their lockers. It was a reminder of their loved ones and who they had waiting on them at home. No asked. . . until one day Maverick did.
“So, who’s the girl, Kazansky?” Maverick asked, shucking off of his flight suit. Slider froze next to his pilot, waiting for Ice to come off his rocker. The last time someone asked about the photo, Ice had ripped them a new one, and everyone in their last squadron knew not to ask about the girl in the picture.
Iceman’s blue eyes looked over at the polaroid that was taped to the door. Her bright smile always made him feel warm, and the little girl next to her eyes were bright and filled with love. Iceman clenched his jaw and shut his locker slowly.
“No one.” Ice mumbled and walked out of the locker room.
“Ice, I’m-”
“Do yourself a favor, Mitchell,” Slider said, “Don’t ask about the girl in the picture.”
Maverick nodded and watched as Slider went after his pilot. Maverick knew that his curiosity should end right then and there. That he shouldn’t pry into the life of his competition, but he couldn’t just let it be. If this was a chance to get a one up on Iceman, then he was going to take it. He knew that there was one person, besides Slider, that new Iceman well enough to possibly know about the girl in the picture.
“No, I’m not telling you,” Goose said, ignoring his pilot.
“You need to, it’s life or death.”
Goose gave Maverick a look.
“Okay, not life or death but still.”
Goose sighed and leaned back in his chair, “No one talks about the girl in the picture. It’s just. . . it’s just never talked about. All you need to know is that he takes that picture everywhere. He had it back at the academy, he had it in flight school, hell I think if his house caught on fire the one thing he’d rush into save, is that picture.”
Maverick nodded, the gears turning in his head. He looked up at his RIO and gave him a smirk, “Thank you, Goose.”
“Hey, I don’t like that look, Mav!” Goose pointed, sitting up straight, “What are you going to do?”
“Nothing,” Maverick said, but Goose knew better than to trust him.
And Goose should’ve stopped him, but he didn’t think that his pilot would go as far as breaking into Ice’s locker and taking the picture until the next day when Ice stormed into the classroom, anger and fury in his eyes.
“Where the fuck is Mitchell?” Ice yelled and Maverick slowly turned around, a smirk on his face which was quickly wiped off by Ice’s fist to his jaw.
“What the fuck!”
“Where’s my fucking picture!?” Ice yelled, grabbing Maverick by the collar and slamming him up against the wall. Other pilots quickly scrambled to try and break up the fight waiting to happen.
“Kazansky!” Jester yelled.
“I know you fucking have it,” Ice seethed, “Give it back.”
“Why Kazansky? What’s got you so fucking tense about a goddamn picture?” Maverick jeered, hoping to get a rise out of him. They both knew that if a fight broke out, they would be kicked out of the program.
“Kazansky,” Jester said again, taking a step closer. Ice’s jaw was clenched so tightly, it was a miracle he wasn’t breaking teeth.
Ice looked down for a moment, weighing his options, before letting go of Maverick’s tan button up, and walking away. Slider glared at Maverick, before chasing after his pilot. And the look in Goose’s eyes was one Maverick had never seen before, the look of pure disappointment.
“I’m not sure what happened,” Jester said, “But return Kazansky’s belongings as soon as possible or you’ll both be tossed out.”
It was the last thing he wanted to do, but Maverick didn’t want to run the risk and get kicked out of the program he dreamed of going to. So later that night, he swallowed his pride and walked towards Iceman’s room, the picture in his hand. Maverick sighed as he knocked on the door. He jumped back a bit when it was ripped open, a half naked Tom Kazansky standing in front of him in just his boxers. Ice’s hair was a mess, his blue eyes red and so was his nose. This wasn’t like him at all.
“I brought-” Maverick held up the picture, and Iceman quickly ripped it out of his hands.
“Don’t ever touch my stuff again,” Iceman seethed, “Or the next time, I won’t stop because Jester says so.”
Maverick nodded and Ice turned to shut the door, but he held his hand out stopping him. Ice sighed and faced him.
“What, Mitchell,” Ice demanded.
“Why is that picture so important to you that you’d throw everything away?” Maverick asked.
Ice let out a sigh as he looked down at the picture in his hand. Neither one of them would want him acting like this, so eager to throw in the towel just to be with them.
“Y/N, She was my wingman,” Ice said, his voice filled with sadness, “She was my wingman before I was even a pilot. She was going to fly with me, be my backseater. She was determined to be the first woman in the program, and I think she would’ve done it.”
“And the little girl?”
Ice looked up at Maverick, tears rolling down his cheeks, “My daughter.” He looked back down at the picture and sniffed, “We had her in high school. Everyone said it was a mistake, but she wasn’t. . . she was the best thing that ever happened to me.”
“What happened?” Maverick’s voice was barely above a whisper.
“Graduation weekend,” Ice answered, “We had been at a small party my family was hosting. It just happened to be Lydia’s second birthday. God, she was so excited to be two,” Ice smiled at the brief memory of how happy he had been that whole weekend. Not only had Y/N and Ice both graduated high school and were taking steps to start the next chapter in their lives, and Ice got to celebrate yet another year of being a father. Sure he was young, but to him that didn’t mean anything. Lydia was perfect, she had been the best baby ever, but she was becoming the best toddler ever, hitting every single milestone and then some. She was so smart, something that she had gotten from her mother, and sassy, something she had gotten from her father.
“It happened so quick,” Ice’s voice cracked, “One minute, we were on top of the world, singing along to that damn Queen song and then. . . the car came out of nowhere.”
Maverick watched as the cold, tough exterior of his enemy came crashing down. The picture fluttered out of Ice’s hand as he covered his face and cried. Sobs racked his body, and Maverick bent down to pick up the picture, gingerly handing it back to Ice.
“He took them both,” Ice whispered, and wiped his face on his arm, “Y/N was killed instantly, he hit on her side. Lydia. . . she fought hard for three days, but her little body couldn’t handle the injuries. I buried them both on the same day.”
“Ice, I am so-”
“I fly the way I do because I can’t afford to make mistakes,” Ice said, and turned to face Maverick, “Because that’s what he did. He made the mistake of getting in his car that night and it cost me everything. I refuse to be the reason why someone has to bury the people that they love. I refuse to make mistakes because it kills people.”
Maverick nodded, now understanding a whole new side of Tom “Iceman” Kazansky.
“Again, I’m sorry for your loss, Tom,” Maverick said, and took a step back.
“Thank you, Pete,” Ice responded, and closed the door. He leaned his back against the door and slowly slid down to the ground, clutching the picture to his chest.
