Sabaku No Gaara ❤️ Gaara was one of those characters that I loved from the first moment and who accompanied me throughout my life. I started drawing when I was little to feel closer and make real those characters that populated the books and comics that kept me company. I wanted more than anything that they could speak to me, that they would continue to live outside of the pages they read. As a teenager I must have drawn Gaara a million times, and as I grew older I think I drew him every time I felt I had made a little progress in my technical ability. Today I feel I have made some progress, and for the first time on the canvas I see something that reflects what I imagine when I think of this character. I feel a little moved, as if a circle has been closed.
(in the last photo, an obscene portrait of Gaara taken during my first year of concept art, if I'm not mistaken. Let's say three-four years ago)

Dynamite Comics and Disney Comics Announce Prequel “Gargoyles: Dark Ages” Mini-Series Slated For June 2023.
Dynamite Comics and Disney Comics   announced today an exciting new miniseries event that will continue to expand their hit comic, Gargoyles Gargoyles: Dark Ages will feature a journey into the past and the Manhattan Clan’s origin story, thanks to franchise creator Greg Weisman.  Weisman is joined by artist Drew Moss (”Vampirella/Red Sonja, Copperhead”) and letterer Jeff Eckleberry. The book also offers a perfect entry point for newcomers to the franchise and comic series.
Dark Ages will have covers featuring younger visions of iconic characters, with a new mix of artists separate from the main series to offer fans and collectors more unique portrayals of the cast. Legendary artist Clayton Crain (Venom, Spider-Man) leads the way, alongside Alan Quah, Mirka Andolfo, Kenya Danino, and Erica Henderson. Unique and limited edition variants feature an action figure-inspired piece, some pitch artwork from the TV show, and covers by both Jae Lee and interior artist Moss.
Gargoyles: Dark Ages #1
July 2023
Written By Greg Weisman Art By  Drew Moss
As Goliath’s narration explained, “One thousand years ago, Superstition and the Sword ruled. It was an Age of Darkness. It was a World of Fear.” For a time, the Gargoyles of that era lived peacefully alongside humans, each species having sworn to protect the other. But that truce didn’t last, and in 994, the Gargoyle Clan was cursed to sleep as stone statues for a millennium – until they eventually awoke in modern Manhattan. Gargoyles: Dark Ages, set in the year 971, depicts the origins of the Gargoyle-Human Alliance – some twenty-plus years before things came to a bad end. In this never-before-explored era, monsters still come in all shapes and sizes, forcing Gargoyles and Humans to work together to repel the forces of evil, which threaten to bring the Alliance down, from both without and within.
“I have ALL these stories that I’ve wanted to tell for decades now, so I pitched a number of ideas to Dynamite and Disney, and this is the one that excited everyone the most,” said Weisman. “This is an exciting era for the Gargoyle Clan (not to mention an exciting time in Scottish History), and I’m thrilled we’ll all have a chance to explore it together.
“I really enjoyed the show back in the ’90s and was super excited to be even considered for this project,” said Moss. “I am trying to do interior art traditionally, so this allows me to do some washes and other things that allow me to get my hands dirty. I hope to stay true to the art from the show while infusing my own art style to it.”
In addition to the first issue having an oversized 24-page story, each issue of Dark Ages will also feature four pages of complementary prose storytelling by Weisman with spot illustrations. This extra material will allow him to tap into corners of the mythos in a way that will amplify the impact of the entire series. The series will also feature high-quality cardstock covers on each variant. At 40 total pages, Gargoyles: Dark Ages #1 will be the next ultimate celebration of Disney’s iconic franchise.

Donald and his family celebrate Easter - Redraw from my old drawing - Duck comics and Duckverse - Happy Easter!
Happy Easter to everyone! Admittedly, I didn't have time to do some specials related to Easter, although there will be some in the coming period, but for now I did a redraw from my old drawing, only in a better way. Anyway, this is an old text from four years ago when I drew that old drawing: "Here comes that day. Hallelujah! I wish you all a happy Easter! I care that the coronavirus rules, since I’m certainly in isolation, but I won’t let myself celebrate one of the biggest Christian holidays, which is Easter. I know that it is a holiday that has many pagan features and characteristics, but it is certainly not to be forgotten and that it is a holiday dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ. This is as far as the comics themselves and it has nothing to do with Ducktales and this is actually taken from Topolino comics (Italian comics-on Italian “Buona pasqua!”) and I did a bit of my own. Since they are all ducks and geese (Brigitta is a goose), and it would really be a shame to eat real eggs, here are actually colorful eggs, but chocolate eggs. chocolate but decorated eggs. There are also decorations there. I failed to draw everything as far as decoration was concerned. Grandma Duck herself made Easter cakes for Donald’s nephews (Huey, Dewey and Louie), and the nephews themselves are very happy about it. Donald and Daisy are definitely in love with each other and have colored eggs together. What about Scrooge? He is disguised as an Easter Bunny and runs away from Brigitta MacBridge who is howling him. Certainly for the Easter kiss. Certainly one family reunion for that holiday and I wish everyone a Happy Easter! Happy Easter to all who celebrate!"
I mostly drew now differently, but in my own style. My only apologies for the bad background. I hope you like this drawing and I wish everyone a happy Easter and Easter holidays!
If you like it feel free to like or reblog this, but please don't copy these same ideas without mentioning me! Thank you!

sooooo... *twirls her hair* how many asks should i send until kuwagami art. jk as well. the real question will be: does it happen often that someone else’s art inspires you? in fandom spaces specifically
well you see it’s like a loyalty card program, every 10 asks or so you get a complimentary kuwagami
just kidding you can just breathe in my direction and I’ll be tempted to draw them. kuwagami blast! (you've caught me on a... just okay art day lol)
Tumblr media
(people still like kabedons, right?)
anyway for my actual answer: in terms of direct inspiration, it doesn't really happen much? the last two times i did art directly based on someone else's work is probably this one from this fic, and also that time i drew art of someone else's judgment au. oh! and there's that moriohpsycho art based on this comic! (filthyguts' work is so very. hgngngghh. very good.) nothing else really comes to mind, and when i think of the other things i've been into recently there hasn't been as much opportunity for that to happen...
flex and herds = strong fixation but lmao. almost nobody else made stuff about them. nobody is surprised umineko = surprisingly i don't read much umineko fanfiction? and in terms of illustration, i certainly picked up imagery and indirect inspiration but nothing concrete enough for me to give an example... now that i think about it, i did once draw andromalius from redaction/sunny, but that was years ago, and also mostly because i was acquainted with the writer. ...i don't have that artwork on hand right now death note = didn't really get involved with the fandom + i enjoyed my own ideas well enough! ...i can't recall if i drew long-hair-L art before or after seeing other artists do it. and as for everything else the same kind of reasoning applies. didn't really get involved with the fandom or wasn't really compelled to make art in response to stuff i saw, or i just don't remember anymore.
buuuuuuut if we're opening this up to just... pulling ideas from other people? then yeah, all the time, though that kind of goes without saying when you have a creative hobby. ...it's probably going to be hard to come up with examples of this since it's more ambiguous.
there's uhhhhhh... kuwana listens to nickelback which was a @/four-white-trees invention, wasn't it? (EDIT: and @/overdevelopedglasses!) (not tagging in this post so he doesn't feel obligated to read my big ass ask responses 💀) as of writing this, it's not posted but i did end up making kuwagami art based on a nickelback song so. yknow. there's that LMAO
for sawashiro and arakawa, i do sometimes go reference @/todayisafridaynight 's art to help me with my own. ("how did he draw this part of the suit? oh, like that huh? hmm" <- this kind of thing)
and um. i'm not trying to pander to you (at least not this time), but genuinely it's one of the few examples that come to mind at this moment. but when i was writing my first kuwagami fic, i could feel the influence of the ever-changing on my brain... was turning over some of your ideas there...
you remember this? (you even pointed it out in your comment on my fic, and i should've said something then, but whatever i'm saying it now)
Tumblr media
that was absolutely because of this
Tumblr media
(obligatory poke at anybody else reading this post that you can read passthroughtime's fic here.)
so, um. yeah. not really sure what else to add to that. pretty self evident i think. (i'm always talking about the ever-changing but i don't think i can overstate the impression it left on me at the time)
anyhow there aren't really any other examples off the top of my head! these are all recent examples so they're not so difficult to recall, but there are probably others i've forgotten...
#jitxt#started writing this unsure if i could give many examples and i ended up with more than i expected. nice!#sunny is a very good piece of umineko writing and i should reread it with the author's notes toggled on. and also read redaction#“shouldn't you have read redaction first” n-no. shut up! (besides i think renall said it was fine)#nobody remind me of that 20k note post that's just an uncredited screenshot of sunny. it'll piss me off#as cosmic balance i ought to shill sunny as much as possible#anyway uhhhhhh. the everchanging.#i am awful about receiving compliments (i never know how to respond aside from a rehearsed “thank you”) but i sure am great at giving them!#apologies if i'm laying it on too thick but#1. i am being truthful and#2. i figure it's reparations for all the time i spent as a lurker on the kuwagami ao3 tag#the explosion in my brain when i realised that “the nice person who leaves lots of tags on my kuwagami art”#and “the person who wrote that REALLY FUCKING GOOD FIC” were one and the same. crazy. and now we are mutuals ❤#it is a little funny thinking of when i'd read your and four-white-trees' work before meeting you#real life foreshadowing for me meeting you both....#i still have these discord messages of me telling a friend about both your works#basically: (reading an update to the everchanging) wow that was depressing (reading a joke in four-white-trees' fic) nevermind i'm good now#i ought to reread the everchanging and take detailed notes on all the parts i like#just so you know your impact on my brain lol#kuwana calling yagami a pretty boy and meaning it sincerely oh my GOD. rewired my brain

R.I.P CARLOS PACHECO
Tumblr media
What a crappy week this has been, and I’m not talking about the election results.
First I got news of Kevin O’Neill (Marshal Law, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) passing a few days ago.  Then I learned that Carlos Pacheco Perujo passed away this morning.
Tumblr media
Carlos Pacheco, a Spanish artist, spent a long time working on this side of the Atlantic for both Marvel Comics and DC Comics.
Tumblr media
Although he had been doing work for Marvel since 1995, the first book I remember seeing Pacheco’s work on was the 12-issue Avengers Forever.  I initially picked up the book because it was written by Kurt Busiek, who was doing a bang-up job with George Perez on Avengers at the time.  I liked the story, and was very impressed with the artwork.
This was also the first time that Pacheco worked with inker Jesus Merino and - like Kirby & Sinnott, Swan & Anderson, Adams & Giordano, and Byrne and Austin - it was a match made in Heaven.  Merino would continue to be Pacheco’s regular inker for many, many years afterward.
Tumblr media
Pacheco also had runs on Fantastic Four and X-Men.
Tumblr media
Of course, with me being a DC guy, I was very excited when PAcheco moved to DC tin 2003 to draw a 96-page JLA/JSA crossover, Virtue and Vice, wherein he depicted the entire roster of each team.
Tumblr media
Pacheco also drew covers for several issues of the JSA’s own book.
Tumblr media
He then teamed with writer Jeph Loeb for a few issues of Superman/Batman.
Tumblr media
Then he joined up again with Kurt Busiek for (most of) a year-long run on Superman.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Busiek and Pacheco teamed-up again for their creator-owned series Arrowsmith.
Tumblr media
Arrowsmith: Behind Enemy Lines, the second volume in the series, finished up earlier this year.  The trade paperback collecting the series was released in September, at around the same time that Pacheco announced he was retiring from comics due to being diagnosed with ALS.
Despite the dire news, I was hoping we’d have more time to spend with him. As is always the case with someone you love and admire, they always pass away far too soon.
Rest in peace, Carlos.

IDW TMNT: A Theory Confirmed, Questions Answered and Asked
Good tidings, folks, and welcome back to "Ruth is a Bit Unhinged About Turtles." In this episode we confirm a theory from our last installment, answer some questions, and ask some new ones.
Issue #148 provided us with one extremely interesting set of panels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image ID: A series of four panels from IDW TMNT #148. In them, Donnie and Future!Jennika (who is now a cyborg) have the following conversation: Jennika: Oh, hey, forgot to tell ya, but the future you cam through here not that long ago. Donatello: What? He did? Jennika: Yeah. Came through the city with his weird kids. After everyone got so mad at him 'cause of his magic crap, he drew a new family with that crystal pencil thing. Just drew 'em, and then they were real. Instant replacement turtles. Donatello: The Warp Crystal? He drew actual people? Not just illusions like I saw him do in his tower... But, okay, we're all alive and well in this time period, right? The he must be here somewhere! Maybe he can read the journal! :End Image ID]
What these panels mean for our theories and questions, below the cut.
(This post heavily references this previous one, I highly recommend reading it first.)
Theory Confirmed: The Origin of Donatello's Children
As Jennika confirmed in this issue, Donnie drew his children to life using his Warp Crystal. It seems, at least as far as Jennika knows, that he drew them straight into life without any other factors. We've seen him use similar skills before in TMNT: The Armageddon Game — The Alliance #4, but those beings were not truly alive, just illusions.
What does this Mean?
Well it could mean a lot of things. As discussed in the last post, in the Mirage comics, the permanency of things drawn to life with the Warp Crystal is dependent upon the materials used — things drawn with pencil are always temporary, while things done with ink can be last a lifetime — and the emotional investment of the creator in the item — Kirby's throw-away made up characters lasted minutes or hours at the most, while April's father could make a pencil drawing last for months and his ink drawing of April 30+ years.
Tumblr media
[Image ID: Two panels from IDW Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Armageddon Game — Alliance #4. In the top panel, old Donatello draws ghostly green images of his family onto a blank white background using a pencil with a glowing green crystal attached. In the bottom panel, he addresses the drawings of his family morosely, “Hey, guys.” :End Image ID]
So how long will Donnie's children live? We're told that a pencil was used — and indeed, we see him using a pencil in Alliance #4 — but how long can the emotional tether of his grief and loneliness last? We don't see the kids at all in the far future, but Jennika has seen them recently — did they die between Jennika's future and Leo's?
Unfortunately, we'll just have to wait and see.
Answered Questions
Where are Donnie's Kids? According to Jennika, they are traveling with Donnie through time! Hopefully, Donnie, Venus, and Bob will catch up with them soon and we will finally get to meet them!
Why did he make them? According to Jennika, he made them as a response to his family turning on him — "replacement turtles," she called them. Is this the only reason, or is it just why Jennika thinks he did it?
New Questions
If Donnie used pure magic to make the Donnie-Spawn, then what's the deal with that tank of turtles? As discussed in the previous post, in Donnie's vision of the future, he is seen watching a tank of baby turtles. I had previously speculated that he used these turtles as a canvas of sorts to draw his children into life. If that is not the case, then what was he doing with these turtles?
Tumblr media
[Image ID: A panel from IDW TMNT #139, showing Donatello watching a tank of four baby turtles. :End Image ID]
What happened that made the others turn on Donnie? Jennika mentions that the family "...got so mad at him [Donnie] 'cause of his magic crap..." What did he do to make them so angry? Is it in response to this time-travel mess, or something else? Was it his hyper-fixation on magic in general, or something specific?
That's all for this installment — let me know your thoughts! Agree, disagree, got something to add? I wanna hear it!

Thank you so much for sharing you’re beautiful art with us and I know that you’ve blown up quite a bit recently, so I just wanted to let you know a few things. You do not need to apologise for your schedule, make art however suits you. You do not need to apologise for the amount you produce, anything you give is more than we have asked. Anything and everything you share with us is a free gift, one that should be treated with the respect of someone willing to share their free time and skill with us. Sorry if this came off as preachy or cringe, but I just wanted to make sure you have you’re boundaries and don’t get to caught up in the insatiable appetite of the internet.
You know, that's actually a really nice thing to say. And yes, since that first comic, I am a little intimidated that i now have a crowd to please once again (last time this happened was when I was making Hamilton animatics on YouTube and I have still yet to make the Satisfied animatic, which was promised years ago). I do wanna please because I dont wanna be that one person who doesn't "update a chapter for a fan fiction that says "last updated 12 years ago." My hyper fixation is fueling all of this and even though everyone tells me to take my time, I kinda don't wanna. I just wanna draw everyday. You should have seen my spiral notebooks when I was in high school. Throughout the four years, I drew a comic almost everyday during class and i ended up COMPLETELY filling 22 spiral notebooks full of my Irony comics (its a personal show I wanna make, but I don't have enough money to pay for helpers, so I animate, do backgrounds, make the music, and find the sound effects all by myself on my phone and laptop).
What I mean to say is
I'm not used to the attention. But its SO NICE that I don't wanna let it go just yet. Heck, I was REALLY HAPPY when a Mario and Luigi artist I look up to, talked to me during my Super Paper Mario live blogging. Of course I wanted to mention that to them but I didnt want to be weird. They're just another artist like me, dont be weird, dont be weird.
Idk man...I'm also just hoping that this boosts commissions because, I don't get any at all.
I'll just stick to making people happy with what I've got to share.

All we know so far about the new Doctor Strange series
It’s been a while since the new volume was announced but now we have the full solicitation and more covers for issue #1.
Tumblr media
Written by Jed MacKay and drawn by Pasqual Ferry, the story will be “centered around a shocking mystery that strikes at the very heart of Strange’s legacy and purpose”. The series will pay homage to the “hero’s psychedelic and otherworldly storytelling, taking readers to places only Strange would dare to go and introducing enemies only he could hope to defeat, including a brand-new threat that Strange shares a personal connection with.”
The new uniform was redesigned by Alex Ross himself.
Tumblr media
He also did the art for the main cover to promote the series, which is a homage to Frank Brunner’s cover for the Treasure Edition, as well as this pin-up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“It's been really exciting to have the opportunity to not only continue exploring the magical side of the Marvel Universe with the inhabitants of 177A Bleecker Street, but to follow the lives of the Stranges as the last year and a half has put them through the wringer. Pasqual has been putting together a truly magical book, and I'm super psyched to show people what's in store for Stephen and Clea Strange—and of course, we won't be giving them any time off after recent events..." MacKay says.
“When I started working for Marvel a long time ago, there were three comics I had always wanted to draw: FANTASTIC FOUR, SPIDER-MAN, and DOCTOR STRANGE,” Ferry said. “Why Doctor Strange? Because his stories include all the elements I love as an artist—the fantasy, science fiction, and imagination. Above all, the fact that I could look at Steve Ditko’s work as a reference really motivates me! When he drew Doctor Strange, all the utopian and imaginary sceneries  were incredible. So this is a very special moment in my career, and I’m looking forward to seeing where the character is going to take us with this new narrative. I know a lot of artists, including myself, consider Doctor Strange a challenge, like there is a need to add something new to the character because it offers you that possibility. For me, Doctor Strange is a big challenge, but I embrace it.”

---
Now, my personal view. It’s Jed MacKay, so of course I know it’ll be good. Stephen and Clea are in good hands for SURE. It does feel, though, that the series will be focused on classic comics’ style, from Ditko to Brunner. Now, I do love Brunner’s art, it’s one of my favorite DS artists. But I’m not entirely convinced by the new design, especially for modern days. I’m not too familiar with Ferry’s art either, but as always, I’ll wait and see how it goes.
As for the story, am I concerned about who’s the person close to Stephen doing questionable things? Yes. I don’t have any idea of who they might be, though, but I do hope it doesn’t ruin the affection I have towards these characters.
Overall, I’m just glad that Stephen is back and he's reunited with Clea, Wong and Bats. Now I can expect way more cameos and team-ups, which makes me waaaay happier n.n it was a tough year for fans. I really love hurt/comfort, but boi, the comfort part is taking too long!!
PS: I see these MCU/MoM references and I despise them.

I actually got a few Questions to ask
1. Whose your Favorite TMNT Ship to draw/Write For
2. What is your opinion on Krisa and Zodi
3. Which TMNT Characters did you want to add to the comics but couldnt
4. Even after your run on the comic ends will you still be drawing Fanart
5. Who else of the Splinter Clan Students is their Best besides Hector and Wanda(btw that Wanda post really brightened my Birthday yesterday thank you)
Don't have to answer them all just ones you want too
Jenny/Sheena
I like Krisa but Zodi I'm more ambivalent about.
Shadow Jones is the main one, I kept trying to add her to storylines over the years but she always ended up on the cutting room floor for one reason or another. I drew probably four different versions of Shadow for different storylines/pitches that never happened. I had some ideas for April's sister Robyn, too, but I never got around to her.
I'm sure I'll still draw some fanart here and there!
Happy birthday!! Glad you liked that Wanda pic, I did it a while ago but forgot about it, haha. I think Sheena and Ibrahim are probably the Splinter Clan's best students besides Wanda and Hector.

About the recent Eggman's voice actor controversy (namely, some Sonic fans' reaction to it)
I'm not gonna go into details on the controversy itself. The tags for this post will probably give it away, and those who still occasionally visit Twitter will know exactly what I'm talking about.
Out of this whole fiasco, something that still gets me is the way some Sonic fans reacted, not by merely taking it too seriously (which is barely a surprise anymore) but specifically by trying to "reclaim" Eggman, to turn that character into some sort of icon of a real-life noble cause for social justice, to divorce the character from something those fans criticize.
In this case, they're pretending to separate Eggman from Mike Pollock and his personal political ideas; there's even a tweet where someone drew Eggman carrying a certain four-colour black-white-green-red flag with... *ahem* some particular relevance in the world's current political climate, and I've already seen similar stuff here on Tumblr. But I've already seen Sonic fans trying to do the same with other real-life issues in the last few years, and just like during the current controversy surrounding Mike Pollock, it was very apparent not only that these fans took it too seriously, but also that they did not properly think it through... at all.
Someone posted a comic strip a few years ago, back when Sonic Boom was still relevant. I can't find it right now, but I do remember it went a little like this: Eggman shows he got a degree in villainy, Sonic makes a crappy joke about that meaning Eggman is a business major, and Eggman is like "I said villainy, not sucking the life-force out of poor people".
And, like… Have those so-called "Sonic fans" ever played a Sonic game? Okay, no, that sounded a little gatekeep-y, let's rephrase it: have they ever consumed literally any piece of official Sonic content? Do they have any idea of what Eggman canonically does in multiple branches of the franchise? Have they really never wondered what exactly is the energy source for many of his machines? Because if those obsessive fans did know, then they'd realize trying to turn Eggman into an anti-capitalist and/or anti-oppression symbol is not the smart move they think it is.
The same goes for turning him into an anti-corporate symbol, or something I've actually seen some Sonic fans do: positing that "Eggman may be evil but he's still better than Elon Musk". The way the character usually behaves in official Sonic content shows that Eggman is pretty much the Elon Musk of the Sonic universe, perhaps even worse because the Muskrat fortunately doesn't have his own private army (yet).
-------------------------
Post-Scriptum:
Purist Sonic fans of the Japanese videogame canon will most likely start pointing at this controversy and laughing. Since this mess only involves Eggman's voice actor for English-language Sonic content as far as I know, and Sonic material made in the USA has already gotten a bad reputation due to several other screw-ups of varying magnitude both recently and during the entire history of the franchise, this will seemingly prove once again that all the people working on English-language Sonic media are a bunch of smug and unprofessional dumbasses prone to ridiculously stupid blunders caused by their complete inability to hold back their cringe urges and their insistence that they can do better than their Japanese counterparts, and that any non-Japanese author should be permanently banned from working on this franchise in any official capacity.
As if original Japanese media was always some kind of unproblematic sanctuary of compliance with the source material and the people working on it had the wisdom to avoid getting into bullcrap like this and Japanese society & culture didn't have their own prejudices & complexes to overcome or their own colonial & imperial past that they're still trying to sweep under the rug.
